Manchester United pair Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot have become the latest high-profile footballers to invest in the Baller League, a multi-million-pound six-a-side football competition that brings together street players and internet influencers.

Baller League was launched in 2023 in Germany and is set to make its England debut before the end of March.

Social media bigwigs KSI and IShowSpeed have been named as the presidents of the UK and US operations respectively.

According to the Daily Mail, investor company APEX are pumping nearly £20million into Baller League, which is already proving to be a success in Germany.

It currently averages over 3 million spectators per matchday on the Twitch streaming platform.

Mount and Dalot join Liverpool star Diogo Dalot, who is also an investor. Football legends such as Ronaldinho and Luis Figo are also attached to the endeavour.

Gary Lineker and John Terry have been lined up as managers while the likes of Micah Richards, Alan Shearer, Freddie Ljungberg, Jens Lehmann and Robert Pires have also joined as coaches.

Mount said about Baller League, “Ballers League brings football together with social media influencers who have huge followings. It’s a great way to make the game more accessible and reach even more fans.”

“I’m excited to see Baller League has come to the UK and can’t wait to watch the first game.”

Dalot remarked, “As a professional football player, I’m always looking for new ways to connect with the game I love. Baller League offers a fresh perspective, combining football with exciting entertainment.”

“It’s a great opportunity to explore a new side of the sport and contribute to the popularity of football in general.”

Manchester Evening News notes that trials for the competition are set to take place in London and Manchester. Individuals who are eligible to play include recently retired professionals, futsal players, free agents and released academy players.

Man Utd: Club chief rules out Rashford move as Roma ‘ask’ about £70m star who’s ‘open’ to transfer

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford will not be leaving Old Trafford for Fenerbahce as he looks for a way out, according to the Turkish side’s vice-president.

Ruben Amorim left out Rashford from his squad to face Man City in a 2-1 Manchester Derby win in December and the England international has only made one squad since.

Man Utd boss Amorim has always called it a “selection” decision when referring to Rashford’s omission but he changed tack after their 1-0 win over Fulham.

Amorim said he would rather play Man Utd goalkeeper coach Jorge Vital over Rashford as he hinted that the 27-year-old wasn’t giving his all in training.

Rashford has been linked with a number of clubs this month after admitting in an interview that he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, West Ham and other clubs have been mooted but clubs are finding it tricky to cover all or part of his huge wages at Man Utd.

There was a link to Turkish side Fenerbahce but the club’s vice-president Acun Ilicali insists that they are not interested in Rashford this month.

Ilicali, who is also Hull City owner, told Sky Sports on Tuesday morning: “Yesterday it was in the news that we are interested. First of all, he is a fantastic player.

“But in your team, when you have some plans, it is not logical to have two players in the same position that are too similar.

“These kinds of players need to play, play, play – and, if he comes, one of the other players would not be able to play.

“When it came in front of us, unfortunately we said no – so there is nothing about this transfer.

“Of course, there were some rumours, but I can say very comfortably that we are not interested. But he’s a good player.”

Man Utd are looking to offload Casemiro – who is also on huge wages – before the transfer window closes on February 3 and Roma have “asked” about a loan move.

Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy said in an update on the Brazilian: “Casemiro is open to a move to Roma and Manchester United are willing to let him leave on loan before the window closes.

“United prefer to sell Casemiro on a permanent deal but there have not been any offers of that nature so far.

“Roma had asked for information about Casemiro, according to Sky in Italy.

“They have been doing due diligence on the Brazil midfielder in the event that they need to find a replacement for Leandro Paredes, who is a target for Boca Juniors.”

Champion of 97 academy graduates leaves United after incredible 34-year stint

Manchester United’s head of academy Nick Cox paid tribute to Tony Whelan, who recently left the club after an incredibly successful 34-year tenure.

Whelan came through United’s famous youth system under the legendary Sir Matt Busby and went on to play for the reserves.

In 1990, he was invited back into the fold by iconic duo Nobby Stiles and Brian Kidd, in the capacity of an academy coach.

He went on to become the academy head of coaching and served as the academy programme adviser during his latter years at Old Trafford.

A total of 97 academy graduates made their first-team debuts during Whelan’s tenure at the club. According to the Daily Mail, Whelan’s last day on the job was December 31. He left quietly because he didn’t want a fuss to be made out of his exit.

Nick Cox said about the 70-year-old [via Training Ground Guru], “Tony didn’t want a big announcement made or any attention drawn to his departure.”

“As has often been the case during his time at the club, Tony did not seek the limelight. Tony made an immense contribution to the football club since returning in 1990, having first represented United as a player between 1968 and 1973.”

“He gave more than 30 years’ service to the club, holding a variety of roles including Soccer Schools Coach, Academy Coach, Head of Coaching and most recently Academy Advisor.”

“Tony transcended many eras at United having played under Sir Matt Busby, worked closely with Sir Alex Ferguson and played a key role in crafting our world leading youth development system. His work, along with other talented colleagues, to launch the Academy in its modern form in 1998 paved the way for the success that we see today.”

“There are countless amounts of professional footballers, not least the 97 Academy graduates who have made their debuts for United during his time at the club, who will be grateful for the impact that Tony had on their careers and lives. Although, you will all know, that Tony’s passion and priority was always to ensure that every single player, regardless of their ability, was given the appropriate support to be able to enjoy football as part of healthy childhood so that they could develop the personal qualities required to go on to be outstanding young adults.”

“An approach that we strive to ensure is evident in the way that we work today. Tony embodied the ethos of United’s Academy and is beloved by players of all ages, parents and colleagues alike. We will forever be grateful for the important role that he has played in shaping our Academy.”

“Tony often remarked ‘that it was his honour to carry the baton of youth development from one generation to the next’. On celebrating his 30 years of service in 2022 Tony quoted Sir Isaac Newton stating that ‘if I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants’. He was proud of our clubs history and was proud to have the responsibility to act as a custodian of our traditions and values.”

“These humble mantras sum him up in many ways. We will all miss his daily presence at Carrington, the Cliff and Littleton Road but know that the culture, that he helped to create, and the players, whose development he supported, will serve as a fitting legacy to his incredible service to Manchester United.”

“Tony recently had the indoor pitch at The Cliff named after him; a fitting reminder for staff that work their of their responsibilities in caring for young people.”

Cox added, “Tony has taken some time away visiting family over the last few weeks but he knows that he will always be a welcome visitor at the club. I have also expressed to him that we hope to be able to continue to benefit from his knowledge and experiences when he is ready to do so.”

Whelan was given the Premier League’s Eamonn Dolan Award in 2020 for his contributions to youth development.

PL arch-rivals at the “front of the queue” for “sensational” forward who blew Amorim away with his display vs United – report

PL arch-rivals at the “front of the queue” for “sensational” forward who blew Amorim away with his display vs United – report

Manchester United have struggled massively in front of goal this season, netting only 28 times in 23 games, with only five teams scoring fewer than them so far this term.

Rasmus Hojlund has regressed in his sophomore campaign to such an extent that the club are seriously considering moving him on in the summer with Ruben Amorim reportedly unimpressed with the United No 9.

Joshua Zirkzee has also failed to deliver in front of goal while Marcus Rashford seems destined for an exit, either this month or next summer.

Incidentally, the Red Devils’ goal tally is even lesser than Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are struggling in the relegation zone and Ruben Amorim’s side were linked with a move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha.

          Cunha race heating up

The Brazilian was on fire when the two sides last met, scoring one and assisting another as he proved his quality while playing as a No 10, something the Portuguese head coach witnessed first-hand.

United’s chances of acquiring his signature this January were done a massive favour when news emerged of a potential fall-out with Wolves boss Vitor Pereira

Cunha is yet to sign a new deal with the West Midlands outfit and with interest growing in his services, a potential exit could be on the cards if Givemesport are to be believed.

The only problem? Arsenal have been named as his most likely destination with the Gunners leading the race with the former Atletico Madrid star also open to a move to the Emirates as he seeks to be a part of the league title-chasing pack.

“Arsenal have been handed a significant boost in the final days of the winter transfer window as Wolverhampton Wanderers star Matheus Cunha is keen to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium despite gaining extensive interest from elsewhere, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

          Gunners in pole position

“Although GMS sources have been informed that Chelsea, Newcastle United, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are also showing interest, Arsenal appear to be at the front of the queue after it has come to light that Cunha’s preference is to get involved in a title bid at the Emirates Stadium.”

Wolves do not want to sell their “sensational” talisman in this window as they seek to maintain their Premier League status but a bid in the region of £60 million could prove too hard to turn down.

With Rashford unlikely to leave permanently and Alejandro Garnacho’s chances of moving on looking slim, United simply do not have the funds required to push for a move, especially after agreeing a deal for Patrick Dorgu.

Hopefully, Amorim can get a tune out of the forwards at his disposal in the second half of the campaign before trying for his former Sporting Lisbon protege Viktor Gyokeres in the summer.

Current United star outed as member of group that regularly meets online to criticise Amorim’s team

Rio Ferdinand has revealed that Jonny Evans is part of a group of former Manchester United players and legends, who regularly “hammer” the current crop of stars.

United are enduring an extremely challenging season both on and off the pitch.

The Red Devils currently lie in 12th position in the Premier League table, with just 29 points gained from a possible 69.

United have won a mere eight games all campaign, drawn five and lost 10. Erik ten Hag was sacked in late November and replaced by Ruben Amorim, who is still struggling to implement his preferred 3-4-3 formation.

A top-four finish looks well out of reach for Amorim and his players although they have recently picked up some form in the Europa League and are still in the FA Cup.

All the players that have lined up for the club after Sir Alex Ferguson’s have had to bear the burden of comparisons with the Scot’s legendary teams and it won’t help that the current stars are being “hammered” on WhatsApp amidst their turbulent campaign.

Speaking on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast with guest Ella Toone, Ferdinand revealed that there is a WhatsApp group of ex-players who regularly slam Amorim’s side during games.

The group, called Band of Brothers, consists of individuals like Wayne Rooney, Nani, Anderson, Tom Cleverley and Danny Welbeck.

Ferdinand told Toone, “It’s just hammering the United team. Look, lads are just hammering them through the game.”

“Wazza, I think, was the last person who spoke in there. It’s called Band of Brothers. It’s the 2008-2010 team. You’ve got the younger lads like Tom Cleverley, Danny Welbeck, and there’s Nani and Anderson.”

“You know who’s joined recently? Edwin van der Sar. I think he’s going to delete himself soon because the chat ain’t for him.”

Ferdinand added, “Who else is in there? Jonny Evans is in there who’s currently playing. Some of the stuff that goes on: Patrice Evra gets mullered, hammered all the time. We hammer each other.”

“Because you know, lads, sometimes you don’t speak. We’ve been on an amazing journey together and then you all part ways and go separately. We’ve got all this technology now, you’ve got to use it.”

United are back in action on Thursday when they face Romanian outfit FCSB in the Europa League.

United fans left furious with PL after latest “nightmare” decision – report

Manchester United fans have reportedly been left angry with the Premier League and broadcasters after their latest decision to hand the club another Sunday 7pm kick-off time slot.

United’s Sunday meeting with Fulham at Craven Cottage unusually kicked off at 7pm.

Typically, the last game on Sunday is a 4.30pm kick-off but this was taken by Aston Villa and West Ham, who played out a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Fulham vs. United was picked by TNT Sports as part of their coverage and would normally be played at 12.30pm on Saturday. However, this time slot came too soon for Ruben Amorim’s men following their 2-1 victory over Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

An alternative of 12.30pm on Sunday was proposed but Premier League clubs prefer at least a 72-hour recovery period between games. Due to this, United agreed to a 7pm kick-off time instead –  a decision that proved unpopular within the fanbase due to limited transport options.

According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils are now also set to travel to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City on Sunday, March 16 in the latest United match to be placed in the unpopular 7pm slot.

The train timetable for that day has yet to be confirmed but at the moment, there is only one service from Leicester to Manchester post-match.

An individual speaking on behalf of the Manchester United Supporters’ Trust said, “Seven o’clock Sunday kick-offs are a nightmare for match-going fans with a few post-match public transport options combined with the spectre of “work in the morning” for most.”

“As ever the needs of broadcasters always seem to be put first, with fans in the ground little more than an afterthought.”

The Football Supporters’ Association also remarked, “There’s no doubt that match-going supporters feel the Premier League and its clubs put television first all too often.”

“We’re not sure if there’s a more stark example of this than Sunday evening games which are really unpopular with match-goers.”

“Public transport options are limited to non-existent while it’s a really difficult kick-off time if you go to the match with young kids.”

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Thursday when they face FCSB at the National Arena in Bucharest.

Amorim ruins genius Rashford transfer plan before ‘risking wrath’ of Manchester United players with decision

Marcus Rashford turned up for training ‘despite’ the fact Ruben Amorim called him out for not training properly. Manchester United’s plans are in tatters.

                Rash decision
Marcus Rashford remains the biggest story in all of football on Tuesday because Manchester United. No problems there; Ruben Amorim made sure of that by continuing their non-existent ‘war of words’ over the weekend.

The latest development comes from Martin Blackburn of The Sun, who writes:

‘Despite Amorim’s comments, Rashford reported for training on Monday…’

To be fair, it would have been sensational for Rashford to respond to Amorim’s quotes calling out his professionalism in training by…not turning up to training. He had the chance to do the funniest thing ever and wasted it.

The media continues to struggle with the concept of a footballer turning up for work not being particularly newsworthy. Of course Rashford ‘reported for training on Monday’. He is paid incredibly handsomely to do so. It is his job. That ‘despite’ is absolute nonsense.

But Rashford ‘now knows there is no way back at Old Trafford following Ruben Amorim’s comments after the win at Fulham’.

And perhaps Mediawatch is being naive here and entirely alone in thinking that there might be ‘a way back’ for Rashford under Amorim, who specifically said: “If things don’t change, I will not change. It’s the same situation for every player, if you do the maximum and right things we can use every player.”

It admittedly requires some reading between the lines, but there might be ‘a way back’ for Rashford if he does “the maximum and right things”, which can be roughly translated to training and applying himself properly. Amorim has not been particularly secretive on what he perceives to be both the problem and the solution, nor that “if things don’t change, I will not change”.

If they do, he might. Therein lies Rashford’s ‘way back’.

‘It now looks highly unlikely he will feature again after Amorim said he is not being considered because of his performances in training.’

If only there was something Rashford could do to change the mind of a manager who isn’t picking him because of his performances and attitude in training. Maybe something in training?

‘There looks to be no way of patching up the differences between the pair.’

If you choose to completely ignore everything Amorim has said on the matter, yes.

                Pocket full of sunshine
Blackburn then weighs in on just how big an own goal Amorim might have scored by publicly criticising a player Manchester United wish to offload. It could cost them ‘MILLIONS’, the big Portuguese fool.

‘Those comments could now end up hitting United in the pocket when it comes to moving him on over the next few days,’ Blackburn says, having crunched the numbers.

‘If Rashford does not leave before Monday’s transfer deadline, he will cost United £6.5MILLION in wages until the summer window opens.’

While obviously a ludicrously big number, in relative footballing terms that’s really quite underwhelming, isn’t it? If Manchester United can’t find a suitor for Rashford before the deadline it will cost them MILLIONS, or the equivalent of one Zoran Tosic in wages.

They might be just fine when Sir Jim makes a few more cuts.

Come on baby, light my backfire
                That claim is reiterated elsewhere:

By Chris Wheeler in the Daily Mail:

‘Ruben Amorim’s criticism of Marcus Rashford is in danger of backfiring as Manchester United struggle to offload the unsettled star with six days of the transfer window left.’

…and by James Ducker in the Daily Telegraph:

‘Yet Amorim’s scathing assessment of Rashford could backfire, with interested parties increasingly of the belief that United may have little choice but to offload the player on the cheap before Monday’s deadline.

Manchester United struggled to ‘offload the unsettled star’ with 33 days of the transfer window left and a fortnight of preparation after he weirdly told Henry Winter he wanted to leave. That was on December 17. Amorim made his latest comments on January 26. Not sure he can really be blamed for the difficulty in finding a club who will take on those wages in the interim.

Wheeler continues, writing: ‘Rashford has not featured in the last 11 games, and it now feels as though he has reached the point of no return with Amorim.’

Again, Rashford ‘has reached the point of no return with Amorim’ only if he ignores everything the manager has said.

‘United sources insisted on Monday that the head coach’s comments about players having the right attitude in training apply to every member of the squad and not just Rashford.’

Because they did. He specifically said they did and it was fairly obvious before then anyway.

‘Dortmund and Barcelona are leading the way to sign Rashford until the end of the season, but his £315,000-a-week wages have been a major stumbling block and there are concerns that Amorim’s comments will make it even harder for United to strike a deal that suits them.’

They will be cursing their luck, having done such a phenomenal job of finding someone to take Rashford before then.

                Wrath and learn
There is some news coming away from Old Trafford, as the Daily Mirror website kindly informs us:

‘Kyle Walker risks wrath of Pep Guardiola with prediction after leaving Man City’

It seems like a strange thing for Walker to do. Guardiola would obviously prefer to have kept his captain but the decision seemed mutual and cordial.

Clearly not, considering these toxic quotes:

“It’s not perfect in terms of the league, but there’s still a chance in the Champions League. I hope to contribute with my experience and leadership and to help Milan return to where it wants to be. Winning the Champions League would be a dream come true: I have experienced it in a great final with City.”

Risks wrath’? He’s practically begging for it.

                Wrath now, cry later
And the Daily Mirror website has clearly stumbled upon their headline style of choice for the day because…

‘Ruben Amorim risks wrath of Man Utd dressing room with yet another unpopular decision’

What has he sodding done now?

“They asked for the day off tomorrow. I didn’t give it, so we are training tomorrow because it’s my birthday and my gift is to work with them, with the guys who didn’t play.”

You cannot move for ‘wrath’ nowadays. It’s a wonder Marcus Rashford even turned up for training ‘despite’ all of it.

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford has agreed to reduce his salary in order to seal a move to Barcelona before the transfer deadline, according to reports.

The 27-year-old has not played for the Red Devils since Ruben Amorim’s side beat Viktoria Plzen 2-1 in the Europa League on December 12.

Amorim left him out of the matchday squad for their 2-1 Manchester Derby victory over Man City later that week and the Man Utd forward has only been in one squad since.

Rashford admitted in an interview after being left out against Man City that he was ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford in January if the opportunity arose.

That led to numerous clubs being linked with a move for Rashford but many were put off by the huge wage packet that he’s on at Man Utd.

His high salary has even proved difficult for Euro giants like Barcelona, who are now seen as the main potential suitors for Rashford if he’s to find a new club in January.

But reports in Spain now claim that Rashford is ‘closer to arriving in Spain’ with the Man Utd forward ‘accepting’ Barcelona’s terms for a loan move.

Rashford has left ‘the doors completely open to leave Old Trafford this January’ and Barcelona have become ‘very attentive to the possibility of incorporating him into their ranks, to give Hans-Dieter Flick more alternatives in attack.’

The Catalan giants ‘have been in talks’ with the Man Utd board ‘to get him to land on loan until June’ with the ‘operation’ set to cost them €3m.

It is said to be ‘essential that the English star accepts a significant reduction in his salary’ and with a move to Barcelona ‘very convincing’ to the Man Utd forward, ‘he has accepted Laporta and Deco’s request without any problems.’

The report adds that Rashford ‘could therefore become a surprise signing for Flick in the near future, although it all depends on whether they manage to free up any players before the transfer window ends.’

Speaking on Monday, Sky Sports reporter Melissa Reddy insisted that Barcelona had “not engaged United formally about taking Rashford on loan”.

Reddy said: “Amorim is not convinced of Marcus Rashford’s behaviour and his professionalism if he has to stay at the close of this window, which is a very big possibility because Barcelona is the option he wants and pretty much the only one left.

“They’ve not engaged United formally about taking Rashford on loan. They are struggling to offload players and create any kind of salary space. Their wage bill is increasing with contract renewals.

“Hansi Flick seems very comfortable with the players that he has, he’s not putting any pressure for new signings. His commitment is to those he already has.

“If Rashford stays, the onus is on him to change his behaviour and change his habits. Rather than the PR about how much he loves the club, the fans would like to see it in action.”

Frontrunners for Casemiro’s signature leave him in limbo after agreeing €60m deal – report

Casemiro faces an uncertain future at Manchester United heading into the final days of the winter transfer window, with long-term suitors Al-Nassr shifting their focus on signing Victor Boniface.

Ruben Amorim has seemingly pushed the veteran midfielder away from his first team plans, having left him as an unused substitute in six consecutive games across all competitions.

Casemiro is yet to play a single minute this year, with Amorim placing his trust in academy midfielder Toby Collyer instead.

All January, the Brazilian has been linked with a move to Al-Nassr, with reports claiming Cristiano Ronaldo is pushing his club to reunite him with his ex-Real Madrid and United teammate.

Earlier this week, the Manchester Evening News suggested that Anderson Talisca’s imminent exit from Al-Nassr will free up a foreign player spot, making Casemiro’s path to joining their ranks in the Saudi Pro League clear.

However, that situation has now changed swiftly, as Stefano Pioli’s side have made an ambitious move to strengthen their attack instead of midfield.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Al-Nassr have agreed a deal worth more than €60m with Bayer Leverkusen to sign Bonica “with immediate effect.”

The Nigerian striker has also agreed personal terms and has already passed his medical tests.

This development has once again filled the aforementioned foreign player slot at the club, leaving Casemiro in limbo.

Amid this uncertainty, AS Roma have emerged as the latest potential destination for the five-time Champions League-winning midfielder.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming the Serie A outfit are exploring the possibility of signing Casemiro on loan for the remainder of the season.

United prefer to part ways with him on a permanent basis but with Amorim not showing any signs of using the services of Erik ten Hag’s expensive signing, even a loan deal appears appealing as it would help INEOS trim the club’s wage bill.

“We already know where the final is”: United star has big ambitions for season finale

It has been another disastrous Premier League season for Manchester United with the Red Devils currently languishing in 12th position.

Last season they finished eighth in the league, which was their lowest-ever in the Premier League era, and the team look on course to break that record this season.

A return to the Champions League is unlikely and even European football looks a distant dream at this stage. At least, the 20-time English league champions qualified for the Europa League due to their FA Cup triumph last term.

United remain alive in the competition, having beaten Arsenal in the FA Cup third round to set-up a fourth round clash with Leicester City but goalkeeper Andre Onana is dreaming even bigger this campaign.

Onana wants to win the Europa League

The Cameroonian revealed to the club’s media team that the entire team is focussed on playing in the Champions League next season and they are eyeing the Europa League trophy to get there.

In fact, as the United No 1 explained, the team know where the final will be held and they are desperate to win it this year.

“For me, we have to win the Europa League. For the guys, they all know it’s a big opportunity for us to go directly into the Champions League, so we will give everything to win the Europa League.

“If we fail, it’s not good because it’s something we definitely have to win and we will give everything to win. It will not be easy because some opponents are very good, and that’s why we’ve drawn some games against very good opponents in the past.

“But the mentality and the standard is always high. So any competition we will step in to play, we have to win, and the Europa League is one of them, so we’ll go there with the winning mentality, to play the last game in Bilbao.

                      Permutations and combinations

“We already know where the final is, so we have to be ready to give everything and try to win the Europa League because it’s very important for us, not only the Europa League [but also] in the FA Cup and in the Premier League we have to try to finish as high as we can.”

United are in fourth on 15 points with one match to go and eight teams can catch them should they slip up against their Matchday 8 opponents FCSB.

Due to their superior goal difference, a draw would be enough for Amorim’s side to qualify directly through to the knockouts via a top-eight finish while a win will guarantee their place in the knockouts and they could finish as high as second if other results go their way.

It must be remembered that United have already qualified for the knockout stages but they will be required to win a play-off to make the Round of 16.

United’s game against FCSB will be played on Thursday at Old Trafford with United among the few teams who are unbeaten in the competition.
