Manchester United are considering a shock swoop for Leeds United goalkeeper Karl Darlow, according to a new report. Exits Planned The arrival of Senne Lammens has brought a sense of calm and stability to a position which has plagued the Red Devils in recent years. Captured from Royal Antwerp for £18.1 million last summer, the 23-year-old Belgian has proven to be a masterstroke of a signing after being strongly recommended by goalkeeping scout Tony Coton. The regularity with which his predecessors, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, would commit mistakes was their only consistent trait. By contrast, Lammens has imbued the backline in front of him with confidence, while demonstrating the ability to not let his own errors, however infrequent, affect his performance. The Premier League named him the Transfer of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign – a view underlined by his valuation growing to £45m, CIES Football Obs reveals. Bayindir and Onana are expected to be sold this summer, with Türkiye understood to be the most likely destination for both. Radek Vitek, fresh from an award-winning loan spell with Bristol City, is highly regarded at Old Trafford. But the 22-year-old Czech is pushing for first-team minutes, making a loan or permanent transfer likely. A Back-Up to the Belgian Long-term stalwart Tom Heaton put pen to paper on a one-year extension last week, meaning the 40-year-old will enter his 21st season as a footballer. But the Chester native is the third-choice ‘keeper, as much a part of the coaching staff as the first-team squad. A new No.2 to back up Lammens ahead of an increased workload next year is needed, though United’s focus on midfield makes an experienced option available on a cut-price deal the preference. Wolverhampton Wanderers shot-stopper Sam Johnstone, who came through United’s academy, is a target, given the Black Country side’s relegation makes an exit from Molineux likely. But The Athletic reveals Darlow, Leeds United’s goalkeeper who displaced Lucas Perri to make 22 appearances last season, is another option the Red Devils are “weighing up an approach” for. The 35-year-old Wales international’s contract at Elland Road expires this month, and he would “count towards United’s homegrown quota” as a product of Aston Villa’s academy. Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be considering a move. Final Thoughts A back-up goalkeeper is not the type of transfer which will get pulses racing, but an unreliable No.2 can prove disastrous for a team if not able to answer the call. It is far better to have one, and not need one, than need one, and not have one. Darlow is 6’3″ with good fundamentals, available without spending a penny, and has a wealth of experience in English football. He is a sensible target – something which has not always guided recruitment in M16. Multiple PL winner with United consulted by Tuchel ahead of England’s World Cup campaign – report
Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has been consulted by England head coach Thomas Tuchel ahead of the World Cup. United career Neville broke into the Manchester United first team in the 1990s after coming through the youth ranks alongside the likes of his brother Gary, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs. He played 386 times for the club between 1994 and 2005, scoring eight goals. Neville then moved to Everton and spent eight seasons at the Toffees, playing 303 times for them. He was also made captain of the side. Managerial career Neville led the England Women’s national team from 2018 to 2021 and was also manager of Inter Miami between 2021 and 2023. His latest stint was a three-year spell as Portland Timbers head coach. The club announced his departure last month. Consulted by Tuchel The Telegraph report that, “Thomas Tuchel spoke to English coaches who have worked in the United States, including Phil Neville and John Herdman, as part of his detailed preparations for the World Cup.” The paper reports that, “Telegraph Sport understands that at one stage consideration was even given to adding one of them, as a consultant, to the England staff for the duration of the tournament to help with acclimatisation and logistics.” Nonetheless, it was decided that a series of calls would suffice, and Neville was consulted owing to his five years of experience preparing Major League Soccer teams. Such issues touched upon were the differing climates across the huge nation and the impact of crossing time zones across various states. Traffic delays in certain cities, as well as the effects of playing at high altitude, were also on the agenda. England will face Costa Rica in a friendly tomorrow before facing Croatia on 17 June in their opening World Cup game. PL club believe 100m ace will play for them next season despite agreeing personal terms with United – report

Manchester United have a considerable budget to reshape their midfield, but the Red Devils are still expected to miss out on some of their key targets. This summer’s dream target is Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest, who value the England international at about £100 million. According to The Guardian, United’s executives are optimistic they can beat Manchester City in the race for the 23-year-old. However, as things stand, the noisy neighbours are considered favourites to sign Anderson. Brighton believe Carlos Baleba will stay The situation is very different in the case of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. The Cameroonian box-to-box midfielder, known for his exceptional athleticism, was regarded as Manchester United’s dream midfield target last summer. However, Brighton’s £100m price-tag proved to be an insurmountable hurdle at the time. It is understood that United had an agreement with Baleba “on personal terms” last August. Furthermore, in April of this year, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that “verbal agreement between Baleba and Manchester United from summer 2025 remains valid.” As such, many expected the pursuit to be straightforward this summer, given Baleba had an underwhelming season. However, Brighton’s stance remains unchanged. The Seagulls are reluctant to offer any significant discount for the 22-year-old, leading to another stalemate. The Guardian reports that United are interested in Baleba. However, Brighton believe the Cameroon international will remain at the south coast club. Manchester United following Mateus Fernandes With Baleba now looking unlikely, United have shifted their attention towards West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. It is claimed United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is monitoring Fernandes as another option to strengthen the midfield department. West Ham are believed to want in the region of £80m for the young Portuguese. INEOS have no intention to meet the Hammers’ demands. United may benefit from playing a waiting game, given West Ham are in desperate need to raise cash through sales following their relegation to the Championship. United Women star helps nation become first to secure spot in next year’s World Cup
Manchester United Women stars are doing their utmost to secure a World Cup spot for their respective nations. Tonight will provide the final round of fixtures in the European group stages before a well-earned summer break. Lea Schuller The Manchester United Women striker joined the club in January after leaving Bayern Munich. The German spent seven seasons at SGS Essen before joining Bayern Munich in 2020. She was prolific for the Bavarians, notching 103 goals in 180 appearances. Unfortunately, she has been unable to replicate this form for Manchester United as of yet. Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has spoken about how his team needs to find Schuller more in the box and hopes it is something they can improve upon next season. Schuller has only found the back of the net twice in 18 matches for the Red Devils and has been in and out of the starting line-up. The forward did do well in the Women’s Sevens tournament, though, at the end of last month, scoring two goals, including one in the final against Chelsea. International joy Schuller has also enjoyed a fantastic career for her national team, Germany. She has bagged 56 goals in 87 caps for Die Mannschaft. This has included two goals in the current qualifying campaign against Slovenia and Austria. The club’s website reports that, “Lea Schuller helped Germany become the first European nation to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, as Christian Wuck’s side beat Norway 2-0 on Friday.” The Germans will travel to face Slovenia in their final group game and Schuller will be keen to add to her international tally. “Not something I can influence”: Highly-decorated United Women star fires warning to boss over playing time

Manchester United Women star Fridolina Rolfö has once again spoken out on her international situation. United career The Swedish star signed for Manchester United Women last August after leaving FC Barcelona on a free transfer. The 32-year-old also has experience playing for VfL Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich in Germany. She scored seven goals in 30 appearances for the Red Devils in a strong first season in Manchester. International situation Rolfö has a rich history with her national team, having played 108 times for her country. She has also scored 33 goals for the Swedes during her international career. Unfortunately, Rolfö is finding it hard to accumulate much game time under current head coach Tony Gustavsson. Back in April, the Swedish attacker expressed her disappointment at the lack of opportunities she was getting for her country. She reiterated those feelings after her side’s 2-1 loss to Denmark in World Cup qualification. The defeat meant that the Swedes will need a play-off to qualify for the tournament in Brazil next summer. In an interview with SVT Sport, she openly questioned her manager’s decision to only let her play the final seven minutes of action. She stated, “playing time is not something I can influence in a decision. That will be up to Tony (Gustavsson). Then I try to lay my best possible foundation to be as ready as possible, regardless of whether it is to start the match or finish the match.” Asked if she was physically fine to play she retorted, “no, I’m fine. I’m not going to criticize anyone, what it’s about is a question that should be asked to Tony. I’m doing what I can influence and that’s the most important thing – that I walk with a straight back.” Rolfö also revealed that she is having discussions with her head coach, but when asked if she was buying his excuses she claimed, “I would say yes and no. It’s his choice in the end.” The Swedes take on Italy later today to complete their group, and Rolfö will hope to earn more minutes this time around. Ugarte discusses his special bond with former United starlet as the pair set out to realise ambitious World Cup goal

Manchester United midfielder Manuel Ugarte has insisted that Uruguay are well in contention to win the World Cup in North America this summer. World Cup hopes Ugarte will be looking to make history when he represents Uruguay at the World Cup, as the nation seeks to add another feather to its cap. Though Uruguay is a relatively small country by population, it remains one of just eight nations to have won the tournament heading into this edition. But it has been 75 years since Uruguay last won it. If they are to enjoy success at the tournament, Ugarte will likely play a big role. He endured a difficult 2025/26 at United despite the club finishing in third place and securing Champions League football. The South American struggled for playing time under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. It’s looking increasingly likely that his time at United has come to an end, with reports suggesting that there is interest in him from Turkey. There have also been rumours that he has admirers in the Premier League and Serie A. However, for now, Ugarte’s full focus is on the World Cup and according to him, Uruguay can go all the way and lift the trophy. Ugarte’s remarks The 25-year-old told club media, “Uruguay is a small country, but we have a history in football. We won the World Cup before. We know the reality, we know the favourite teams, but Uruguay always can win, in my opinion.” On what representing his country means to him, Ugarte answered, “I love my country. I’m so proud. We are few people, that means we are so together. We are close to each other. We have friends in the squad. We have friends everywhere. So, if we win the World Cup, we’re going to be so happy.” Ugarte singled out Real Madrid’s Federico Valverde as a player who could be decisive for Uruguay at the World Cup. “He’s amazing. He’s an amazing guy. He has everything, that’s my opinion. For me, he’s the most complete player in the world. He can do everything and he does everything well.” “I grew up watching him in the Under-20s so, for me, it’s a big experience playing with him. And also, we have a really good relationship, he’s like my friend, so I’m so happy that he’s with Uruguay.” Ugarte also opened up on his relationship with former United man Guillermo Varela, who was at the club from 2013 to 2017. Now at Flamengo, Ugarte notes that Varela still speaks well of his time in Manchester. “Yeah, I spoke with him about the club and also I spoke with the staff [at United] about him. They like him and, of course, he has really good memories in this club. He was young when he was here, but he enjoyed [it] a lot and it was a big achievement in his career. Ugarte said of working under Marcelo Bielsa, who was renowned for his intense, no-nonsense training regimen at Leeds United, “Yeah, Marcelo, he’s special. He’s a special manager. He wants to control everything. He’s really good, looking at you, how you play, what you need. And yeah, everyone is with him. It’s going to be really important all together, all closer, and try to follow his ideas.” He continued, “The next preparation, for the World Cup, I think it’s going to be [intense], and it’s good because if you reach, between us, a good intensity, in the World Cup, nothing going to be more intense than that. So, in that way, it’s good for us.” Ugarte and his teammates kickstart their World Cup campaign on Tuesday, 16 June, when they face Saudi Arabia. Christian Eriksen breaks his silence after frightening collapse vs. Ukraine with heartfelt statement

Former Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has released a statement after he collapsed during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine on Sunday. Scary incident TV cameras caught Eriksen holding his chest in the 65th minute of action before he collapsed to the floor, prompting the referee to immediately stop the game. The medics acted swiftly to Eriksen as both sets of players formed a protective ring around Eriksen. The game was eventually called off, with the score 2-1 in Denmark’s favour. Fortunately, Eriksen was able to walk off the pitch before he was taken to the hospital for further examination. Denmark national team doctoer Morten Boesen, who is widely credited with saving Eriksen’s life in 2021 when he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during Euro 2020, issued an update and confirmed that the ex-United man was doing well and in good spirits. United also released a statement, sending their love and strength to Eriksen and his family. Now, the 34-year-old has broken his silence on the situation. Eriksen’s statement He wrote on social media, “I want to let everyone know that I am doing well and that I am home with my family.” “As you can probably imagine, receiving a shock from my ICD has had a major impact on both me and my family, but I want to reassure everyone that this was a different situation from what happened in 2021.” “I am feeling good, and my recovery has already started.” He added, “In addition to being grateful for the support and assistance of all the players and the medical team on the field, I am also incredibly grateful to the doctors who have cared for me and my heart over the years.” “Thanks to their expertise, my ICD did exactly what it was designed to do: protect me when I needed it.” “For now, my focus is on recovering, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children.” It’s truly a huge relief and a positive sign to learn that Eriksen is doing well and on the road to recovery.
