United blame others for fan chaos that took place during Europa League clash vs. Rangers

Manchester United have reportedly concluded that touts are to blame for the large number of Rangers fans who infiltrated the home end at Old Trafford during last week’s Europa League clash.

Chaos broke out in the stands during the Red Devils’ 2-1 victory, resulting in 39 arrests.

Officially, Rangers had brought a travelling support of 3,000 to the Theatre of Dreams. However, footage that emerged on social media appeared to show many more fans dotted around parts of the stadium.

Videos from inside the home end showed brawls breaking out as United supporters confronted alleged Rangers fans.

BBC revealed that out of the 39 arrests made, 26 were for violent disorder. One other person was arrested for attacking a steward, five for drug offences and three for common assault.

Other arrests were over attempts to access to get into Old Trafford with a forged ticket and public order offences such as tragedy chanting.

According to the Daily Mail, United’s investigations have concluded that “widespread ticket touting” was to blame for the chaos.

“Confidential has learned that the majority of the rogue Rangers fans picked them up from ticket websites that use bots posing as members to buy up tickets and re-sell them at higher prices.”

“United have introduced digital ticketing since similar issues arose against Galatasaray in the Champions League in October 2023, which involves tighter measures including QR codes being issued three hours before kick-off.”

“But sources indicate the practice is difficult to prevent because the touts can bypass the system by passing on the codes or selling log-in details.”

The newspaper further notes, “The problem is understood to exist at most United games – and other matches and events around the country – but it was particularly noticeable last Thursday because Rangers fans are more vocal than most and Greater Manchester Police corralled the individuals into one group close to the Rangers away end for security purposes.”

It’s understood that United have made use of available data to uncover accounts linked to the fiasco.

Those found responsible will be sanctioned.

Spurs looking to take advantage of United’s indecision to land £50m wonderkid who has set the Premier League alight – report

Manchester United were facing the prospect of losing Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho this January with both wingers linked with an exit.

While the Mancunian had already declared his intention to leave, the Argentine was initially not looking to move but the club’s need to balance the books and Ruben Amorim’s own tactical system was seen as reasons for the player’s U-turn.

As a result, the club seemed to go into panic mode and as relayed by The Peoples Person, they were looking at Southampton rising star Tyler Dibling as Garnacho’s replacement.

It would not have been an easy deal to pull off given the 18-year-old’s £50m price tag as well as the presence of numerous other suitors in the race.

United could miss out on Dibling

But now with Chelsea moving on to Mathys Tel and Napoli’s final bid set to fall well short of INEOS’ asking price, there is a growing possibility that the Argentina international remains at Old Trafford.

Amorim has praised his impact and his ability to adhere to his tactical instructions and this indicates a thawing of tensions between the pair.

Which is why United could move on from Dibling and as revealed by TBR Football, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to take advantage with a loan-to-buy offer for the 18-year-old.

Spurs are in a disastrous run of form in the league and are in urgent need of reinforcements but whether their offer gets accepted remains to be seen.

      Spurs eyeing loan-to-buy deal

“TBR Football revealed back in September that Tottenham were scouting Dibling – with Manchester United also keeping tabs on the youngster.

“Sources add that Tottenham do not have £50m to spend this winter, but could look to sign Dibling on an initial loan deal before paying the fee this summer.”

The English talent has already told the Saints that he will not be signing a new contract at the club and with the team from St Mary’s looking odds-on to get relegated this season, there is a good chance that Dibling will leave in the summer if not now.

Southampton want to hold on to their talisman given their league form but should the player put pressure, they will have very little hope of keeping a hold of him this January.

Amorim explains the “red lines” Marcus Rashford has crossed that led to his explusion from first team squad

Amorim explains the “red lines” Marcus Rashford has crossed that led to his explusion from first team squad

Ruben Amorim has suggested that the intensity and physical demands of the game are why Casemiro seems to have fallen down the pecking order at Manchester United.

Casemiro is currently in his third season at United, having joined the club in the summer of 2022 from Real Madrid.

He enjoyed a brilliant first campaign under Erik ten Hag but struggled in his second season and now finds himself surplus to requirements under Amorim.

The Brazilian last played for the Red Devils back on December 30 in a 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle. The last time Casemiro completed a full 90 minutes for United was in November when Amad Diallo’s brace secured the club all three points against PAOK in the Europa League.

In recent games, even Toby Collyer seems to have surpassed Casemiro in Amorim’s eyes. Casemiro was an unused substitute on Sunday as United beat Fulham 1-0 at Craven Cottage.

Amorim spoke to TNT Sports Mexico and insisted that there is no problem between himself and Casemiro, but a case of what is best for United as they seek to finish the season strongly.

        “Sometimes it’s a lot of that. It’s also a player’s moment.”

“We understand that Casemiro has other things nowadays. The intelligence he has, understanding the game, understanding where the ball is going to fall but we’re in a league that I can see, even in European competitions, the difference in intensity is big.”

“And so, I feel that this team also needs players with a very high intensity. And sometimes we don’t have that and sometimes that difference in characteristic can lead one player or another to play.”

The United head coach added, “Even the fact that the group has a certain characteristic as a group. I needed some players in certain positions with a slightly different pace. But we all know the quality Casemiro has and everything he won.”

“And so, I have nothing to say about that. It’s just a choice.”

Another player that was discussed in Amorim’s interview was Marcus Rashford.  After the final whistle against Fulham, Amorim told reporters that he would rather play United’s 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than Rashford.

When asked if his continued omission of Rashford from matchday squads is intended to send a message to the other stars, Amorim denied this.

“I don’t want to give messages to anyone.”

“I’m just very clear about what the players have to do. I’m demanding in certain things, but then I’m a coach like everyone else. There are just certain red lines that I feel that, for a group to win games and titles, you have to follow a criteria.”

“And so, if there’s no such criteria, then it’s all very subjective. And there are certain things that we have to be very clear with the players. That’s just it. I don’t want to send messages to anyone.”

United return to European action on Thursday when they face FCSB at the National Arena in Bucharest.

“Here we go”: Fabrizio Romano confirms United have agreement to sign Patrick Dorgu

Manchester United have agreed a €35 million deal to sign Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The Italian transfer guru has given his trademark ‘Here We Go’ seal of approval to the move which sees the Red Devils paying an initial fee of €30 million with €5 million in potential add-ons.

🚨🔴 Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, here we go! Verbal agreement in place with Lecce, documents to be checked in next 24h.

Fee will be €30m plus €5m in add-ons not guaranteed.

Tweet: “Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, here we go! Verbal agreement in place with Lecce, documents to be checked in next 24h. Fee will be €30m plus €5m in add-ons not guaranteed. Long term contract agreed days ago with the player……and first signing for Rúben Amorim.”

Dorgu, 20, emerged as a key target for the Red Devils this month given the ongoing struggles for Ruben Amorim with the left wing-back position. Neither Luke Shaw nor Tyrell Malacia, the two most obvious candidates to fill the role, can match the physical (Shaw) or technical (Malacia) attributes the Portuguese coach demands from the wing-back position.

Amorim’s trademark 3-4-3 system, which established him as one of the most exciting young managers in Europe during his time at Sporting CP, is heavily reliant upon the wing-backs to provide width and penetrating runs in the opposition half.

The 40-year-old’s preference for his front three to consist of a number nine and two number tens, who primarily operate in between the lines of midfield and defence, rather than out wide, means attacking play down the channels comes largely from the wing-backs.

However, these players are also tasked with helping the defence and must be capable of lung-busting runs in transition to cover opposition wingers.

This combination of responsibilities requires a high level of physicality to effectively defend, which rules out Shaw, and a high level of technical ability in the final third, which Malacia lacks.

Dorgu, who has often been deployed at right-wing for Lecce this season, is a physical monster, standing 6’2 and possessing a potent pairing of speed and strength. He also ranks highly for offensive actions among wing-backs across Europe, particularly compared to under-23 players.

United have seen two bids for the Danish international rejected by Lecce but the third, and ultimately final, was enough to convince the Italian club to sell, as Romano states.

Personal terms are expected to be a formality with Dorgu reported to have already agreed a contract with Old Trafford officials during negotiations, worth around six times his current salary in Italy.

Amorim will be delighted to welcome a player who offers two vital areas of improvement to his squad – a natural left wing-back option and a physically imposing player. All for a potential price of €35 million; not bad going.

Ex-Man Utd star explains why Old Trafford is a ‘problem’ for Amorim’s men – F365 Exclusive

Manchester United players are intimidated by the pressure of playing in front of their own fans at Old Trafford, according to the club’s former defender Wes Brown.

Ruben Amorim’s side have served up some of their most disastrous performances on home soil this season, with their six defeat at their Theatre of Dreams contributing to their position in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Amorim’s now infamous post-match rant suggesting his team are the “worst team in the history of Manchester United” following their home defeat against Brighton earlier this month created big headlines and now Brown has told Football365 with NewBettingSites.uk that the pressure of wearing the famous red shirt is proving to be too much for a fearful United side.

Some of their better performances this season have come on their travels, including last Sunday’s 1-0 away win at Fulham, and Brown told this website that some of Amorim’s players seem to be intimidated by the prospect of home matches.

“Old Trafford seems to be a problem,” conceded the former Man United defender who won five Premier League titles and two Champions League titles during his time at the club.

“We start games really badly and the pressure is definitely there. Maybe away from home, the players don’t feel it as much.

“They also seem to go into games against the better teams away from home as the slight underdog and that means they don’t have that pressure on them.

“That seems to help their performances, but the manager just hasn’t been able to get that kind of reaction in the home games that we saw from the team in the Manchester United away game and with 10-men at Arsenal. They really worked hard, put in a bit extra effort in those games, but he needs it every time.”

Brown went on to point an accusing finger at United players for showing a lack of responsibility, as he suggested the weight of expectation when you play for one of the biggest clubs in the game requires you to offer more passion than Amorim’s players are showing.

“To be a Manchester United player, you have to perform to a high level and a lot of them haven’t done that this season,” he added.

“It’s been more than a few of them that have fallen below the standards and that is down to a few things.

“You can look at confidence, you can look at different factors, but the players have to put what they do on the training ground into matches and a lot of them haven’t been doing that consistently.

“Everyone can play badly and have a patch of bad form, but these players have to realise that they still have a little bit of time to try and save this season.

“As the season edges towards a conclusion, that window to save the season gets smaller and smaller.

“At some point, this team have to take more responsibility. You can’t just blame the manager all the time. At some point, players have to step up onto the plate.

“I knew the Brighton game was going to be difficult on Sunday, but I wanted to see them stepping up that work rate level and I felt it was a bit too slow when we had the ball at times. It wasn’t good enough.

“Luckily enough they are still in the cups, so there is still something to aim at. We have said for the last few years that we are struggling in the Premier League, but we are still in the cups and you have to take them as far as you can go.

“You still want to win a trophy. Last season was fantastic as they won the FA Cup and even though we want to see them finding consistency in the Premier League.”

United will welcome Crystal Palace to Old Trafford this weekend, with Amorim’s side eager to end their misery as they look to climb the Premier League table.

Scholes tells Amorim to ‘banish’ one Man Utd star from the dressing room

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes has told Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim to “banish” Marcus Rashford from the dressing room.

The England international was left out of the Red Devils squad for their 2-1 Manchester Derby victory in December with Rashford only making one matchday squad since.

Amorim insisted the Man Utd forward was left out over “selection” but, in an interview the next day with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford claimed he was open to a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

That has led to lots of interest in Rashford in the January transfer window with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund the main clubs to be linked.

There are reports that his wages are still causing issues in terms of finding a new club and his future remains uncertain at Man Utd.

Amorim has previously insisted that Rashford had been omitted from squads over “selection” but, after their 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, he insisted that he would start one of his goalkeeping coaches over the Man Utd forward.

And former Man Utd midfielder Scholes thinks Rashford should now be removed from the dressing toom to benefit the rest of the Red Devils team.

Scholes said on The Overlap: “Marcus has let a lot of people down with his attitude. Young players look up to Rashford. He’s clearly not training properly, living his life properly.

“He’s [letting his teammates down]. The fact he’s letting his teammates down, he should be banished from the dressing room.

“If he’s in and around that, young people seeing him as an example, the sooner he’s gone the better.”

Former Man Utd winger Lee Sharpe is a fan of Amorim’s approach to Rashford’s poor performances in training with the Portuguese calling out the player.

Sharp told Texas Poker: “I’m on board with Ruben Amorim’s approach with his recent comments. Past managers have tiptoed around situations and pandered to some of the players after really bad performances. Amorim however has come in and clearly expects a certain level of commitment in training – you can’t have a 6/10 training session and expect to deliver a 10/10 performance on a matchday.

“If Rashford and other players aren’t producing in training, then they don’t deserve to play.

“I think Amorim is well within his right to say things like that to the media – I actually think it was quite funny when he said he’d rather have Vitor on the bench if Rashford isn’t working hard enough! That’s how things should be and that’s how standards are set.”

Former United boss holds “secret talks” with German giants regarding vacant managerial position – report

Manchester United’s wait for a Premier League trophy now stretches longer than a decade with a raft of high-profile managers failing to live up to the billing since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

A plethora of top names have come and gone over the last 12 years and United are now on their sixth permanent manager in the shape of Ruben Amorim.

German coach Ralf Rangnick also tested the Old Trafford waters having taken interim charge of the side after the sacking of club legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer back in 2021.

Rangnick was appointed with the view of moving him into a consultancy position after his term on the sidelines got over at the end of that particular campaign.

However, Rangnick didn’t join his behind-the-scenes role after agreeing to take over as the national coach of Austria in the summer of 2022.

Since then, the German has overseen a notable period of progression for the Austrians who caught the eye in Euro 2024 in particular.

However, as reported by Sky Germany journalist, Florian Plettenberg, Rangnick may be closing in on one of the top roles in European club football.

Plettenberg posted on his X account that the 66-year-old has held a “secret meeting” with the Borussia Dortmund board who are looking for a new coach after parting ways with Nuri Sahin.

It’s claimed Dortmund spoke to Rangnick about both the possibility of taking over at the end of the season, or with immediate effect.

However, the German’s contract with Austria runs until the summer of this year and Plettenberg claims Rangnick is “leaning towards declining BVB’s offer” with his focus still very much on his international role.

Former United manager Erik ten Hag has also been rumored to be on the shortlist of the Bundesliga side who have struggled for form since Edin Terzic left the club after last season’s Champions League final.

Rangnick’s time in Manchester is possibly best remembered for his recommendation that United were in need of “open heart surgery” after he spent considerable time with the players.

Since Rangnick left the club, United have secured a couple of domestic trophies but have been drifting further and further away from the top of the Premier League, which has only gone to show how right the German’s damning assessment was.

“No longer speaking”: Conflict between Amorim and Rashford reaches furious boiling point – report

Marcus Rashford and Ruben Amorim are reported to be “no longer on speaking terms” as the dispute between the pair reaches boiling point for Manchester United as the club heads into the final week of the winter window.

Rashford, 27, has not featured for the Red Devils since he was dropped for the Manchester Derby in December – a match United would emerge as 2-1 victors after an impressive performance at the Etihad, characterised by Amad’s relentless hard work on and off the ball.

Fellow attacker Alejandro Garnacho was also omitted for the game, with Amorim explaining the pair’s absence was not a disciplinary issue, but rather a result of a lack of standards in training and off the field. Since this point, however, Garnacho has been reinstated into the first-team squad with Amorim praising the improved work rate and application of the 20-year-old winger.

Rashford, by contrast, has not played a single minute after the 27-year-old academy graduate chose to release an interview just three days after the Manchester derby, declaring he was “ready for a new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

This response after Amorim publicly chose to lay down a gauntlet for Rashford to improve his commitment and attitude to the club could scarcely have been more poorly judged.

Even if Rashford signalled to United, privately, that he wanted to leave, the 27-year-old could still have departed Old Trafford this month after six weeks of positive performances for his boyhood team. Instead, the forward threw his toys out of the pram at the first attempt by Amorim to cajole him into improvement.

Rashford’s form since signing a mammoth £325,000-a-week five-year contract in 2023 has been nothing short of dismal. And while poor performances can be excused, if they run concurrent to a lack of effort and constant incidents off the pitch, they soon become inexcusable.

Rashford’s application on the pitch is unforgivable. He half-heartedly presses in a performative manner, whether he has been selected to start the match of brought on as a substitution. He grows increasingly frustrated when his runs aren’t found, throwing his arms up in the air. And opposition fullbacks enjoy the freedom of their flank when United lose the ball as Rashford often fails to track their run.

By contrast, one of the rare bright spots for United this season has been the form of the brilliant Amad.

The 22-year-old winger’s superb technical ability is surpassed only by his relentless work rate off the ball. Multiple times in recent months the Ivorian international has forced a goal through his work rate, hunting down the opposition goalkeeper or defender into a mistake, which he either finishes himself or lays on a plate for a teammate.

There is no reason why Rashford cannot work as hard as Amad. Yet, when demanded to do so by his manager, the experienced star paid eye-watering sums chooses to run from the challenge; which is most unlike him on the pitch.

United are open to Rashford’s departure this month but there is acceptance at the club that a loan deal is the only viable exit, given the 27-year-old forward is little on form and large on wages.

Rashford’s representatives have entered negotiations with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona, among other teams throughout Europe, but have been unable to agree a deal, even a temporary one, such is the reticence by the continent’s biggest clubs to pay the United man’s exorbitant salary.

There had been a feeling emerging in recent weeks that Rashford may be set to stay at Old Trafford beyond the February 3 deadline with the attacker pictured back in first-team training.

However, Amorim’s comments following the 1-0 victory over Fulham on the weekend has reignited the prospect of a last-minute loan move for Rashford. When asked about the forward’s continued omission from the match-day squad, Amorim replied in absolute terms.

“It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things – we can use every player,” the 39-year-old stated.

“You can see it today [Sunday] on the bench – we miss a little bit of pace to go, to change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer [it] like that. I will put Vital [on the bench] before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum every day so I will not change that.”

This leaves little doubt over a fractured relationship between the pair with The Guardian reporting that Amorim and Rashford do not speak to each other. Rather, the only time the Portuguese coach addresses the English forward is when he is talking to the whole squad. They do not speak one-on-one.

“While Rashford last played for United in mid-December and has been selected by Amorim in only one matchday squad, when he was an unused replacement, the 27-year-old is training with the first team. However, Amorim does not have individual discussions with Rashford,” the Guardian reveals.

At this stage, a loan move for the remainder of the season appears the only possible solution for Rashford, with the club evidently prepared to back Amorim’s every decision.

Whether any of the attacker’s potential suitors will be willing to pay for him remains to be seen, which should be a lightbulb moment for a player almost willingly failing to achieve his enormous potential.

Manchester United have been offered the opportunity to sign Brian Brobbey, as per reports.

United’s recruitment team had their one foot in Amsterdam when Erik ten Hag was in charge of the club, as the Red Devils explored potential deals for multiple Ajax stars.

The Dutchman managed to sign Lisandro Martinez and Antony from the Dutch giants. He also reunited with ex-Ajax stars Noussair Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt last summer.

Had Ten Hag had his way, several more Ajax players would have been part of his failed project at Old Trafford.

The former United boss reportedly tried to sign Brobbey but the club failed to lure the striker to Manchester during his tenure. Now, it seems his representatives are pushing for a move.

According to GIVEMESPORT, United are contemplating whether to pursue the Ajax star after “key figures at Old Trafford were offered the chance to pounce as the transfer deadline approaches.”

West Ham United are understood to be keen on signing the 22-year-old striker but it is suggested that United “could make a last-gasp decision” to beat the Hammers.

The London-based outfit are in talks over a loan move, but Ajax are only interested in selling the striker or sanctioning a loan deal, including obligation to buy.

United, meanwhile, prefer to sign a new goalscorer on a permanent basis. This has supposedly given them an upper hand over West Ham.

Brobbey has struggled under Francesco Farioli this term but he is still a highly-rated number nine, who scored 22 goals and registered 12 assists across all competitions last campaign.

Having said that, INEOS are currently working on adding Patrick Dorgu to their ranks. Considering the club’s financial fair play concerns, it is tough to see them lodge a bid for Brobbey without a major sale.

Both Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford have attracted interest from several clubs but so far no suitor have shown a desire to meet United’s demands.

“In recent days…”: Two European giants have entered the race for wantaway United superstar – report

Marcus Rashford has not made an appearance for Manchester United in the last 11 games across all competitions as the forward seeks for an exit this month.

Ruben Amorim proceeded to drop him from the Manchester derby squad last month and soon after, the Mancunian did an interview in which he claimed he was open to leaving his boyhood club.

The Englishman must have thought earning a move away would be much easier but it has not proven to be the case with Barcelona yet to make space for him so far.

Time is running out for the Carrington graduate and with Amorim’s recent brutal comments about his aptitude in training, the chances of earning gametime at Old Trafford is pretty slim should he end up staying.

Gala, Fener join the race for Rashford

Which is why he could be forced to look at alternate options with Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto claiming Galatasaray and Fenerbahce are interested in the United No 10.

“It is clear that the Englishman’s first option, which is Barcelona, cannot be unlocked if a player who can free up salary does not leave first.

“In recent days, two major Turkish clubs have also appeared: Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. As of today, however, we are stuck in mere soundings, negotiations are not advanced. Rashford is taking his time, waiting to understand which way to go.”

But both Turkish giants would struggle to take onboard his humongous wages of £375,000 per week (as per capology) with United having made it clear that they do not want to pay a dime should the player leave on loan this month.

A permanent exit to either of the aforementioned clubs is even more unlikely given Gala’s record buy was for €18 million, while Fener have paid a maximum of €22 million for a player, both of which is unlikely to be accepted by INEOS.

                      Move seems unlikely

In fact, Fenerbahce vice-president Ilicali has categorically revealed that while they were offered the forward, they have no interest in pursuing a deal in January.

“I think Rashford is a fantastic player, I really like him. But at the end of the day, when you have some players in your team [who play in the same role] it is not logical to get two players in the same position which are much better than other players.

“There is nothing that we are interested in him. Of course, there are some rumours that spread. I can say very comfortably that we are not interested, but he is a good player.”

Plenty of Premier League sides had expressed interest but INEOS have already made it clear that the player will not be allowed to join a direct domestic rival.

Landing spots seem to be drying up for the 27-year-old and this saga is likely to drag on until deadline day and Rashford will be praying Barca can come up with a solution.
