Man Utd untouchable could now be sold with Amorim ‘far from convinced’ by Ten Hag signing

Man Utd could now sell Rasmus Hojlund as Ruben Amorim is ‘far from convinced’ by the Red Devils striker, according to reports.

The Denmark international was signed by Man Utd in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth around £72m from Serie A side Atalanta, while Erik ten Hag was still at the club.

Man Utd are having a terrible season with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 12th in the Premier League table after a fortunate 1-0 win over Fulham over the weekend.

The Red Devils attackers have been criticised this season with only five Premier League teams scoring fewer goals than Man Utd.

Hojlund has just two Premier League goals to his name this term in 18 appearances with the Dane scoring a further five goals in the Europa League.

The 21-year-old was criticised by Rio Ferdinand and other pundits for his performance against Fulham as the Man Utd striker was dispossessed ten times in the first half.

And now talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook insists that Hojlund could now be sold with Serie A giants Juventus and Napoli interested in his signature.

Crook wrote for talkSPORT: ‘Rasmus Hojlund was previously viewed as one of the few players Manchester United would not entertain bids for.

‘But that stance looks to have changed and Hojlund will effectively find himself on trial between now and the end of the season.

‘The Dane is enduring a miserable season having scored only two league goals and gone 11 Premier League matches without hitting the back of the net.

‘talkSPORT has been told hard-line United boss Ruben Amorim has been far from convinced by the £72m man.

‘That news has filtered to Italy with Napoli and Juventus among the clubs keeping a keen eye on the situation.

‘If United did decide to sell the 21-year-old they would have to take a significant hit on what they paid Atalanta to sign him at the insistence of Amorim’s predecessor Erik ten Hag.

‘In total, Hojlund has 23 goals and three assists in 71 appearances in a Red Devils shirt.’

Former Man Utd player John Sivebaek claimed that Hojlund was “completely hopeless ” during their January 16 clash against Southampton.

Sivebaek told Ekstra Bladet: “Should never have started [against Southampton] and apart from one good move where he set up Garnacho, he was completely hopeless again. A boy among men.

“He’s struggling. But it’s also very difficult for such a young guy. There are high expectations for him to be the new Haaland, and that’s a lot of expectations at such a young age.

“He’s playing in a team that doesn’t work, and you can’t blame him for underperforming. However, I think he works really hard for it.”

Rio Ferdinand tells United forward there is “no way back” at Old Trafford after Amorim’s latest outburst

Marcus Rashford was left out of Manchester United’s squad once again, for the weekend victory against Fulham.

The forward has featured in one matchday squad since the Manchester Derby in December but failed to get any minutes on the pitch despite United needing a goal against Newcastle on the night.

Ruben Amorim’s continued omission of Rashford has opened the door for a move in the January window with United’s head coach still unimpressed by the 27-year-old’s contribution in and around the training ground.

Amorim was quizzed once more on the Rashford situation after the win at Fulham and responded strongly by stating he would “rather play his goalkeeping coach than a player who doesn’t give their maximum every day.”

The latest comments come after reports of Rashford engaging in double training sessions with the breakdown between the pair more evident than ever.

As reported by the Daily Mail, former United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is “no way back” for Rashford at Old Trafford after Amorim’s recent outburst.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand claims that Rashford should be embarrassed by his manager’s comments with question marks over your application being one of the worst things to have throw at you as a player.

“If I was that player that the manager said that about, my heart, my pride, my ego – embarrassment.

“For someone to question your application, to question [whether] you’re going out there and giving 100 per cent for your team, (suggesting) that you’re going to slack off and you’re taking shortcuts, effort isn’t really one of the things I would want to be hearing a manager say is lacking in my makeup,” he said.

Ferdinand is adamant the comments could be the final straw for the pair and doesn’t expect to see Rashford back in a United shirt anytime soon.

“That’s a damning comment. There’s really no way back for Marcus after that, I don’t think, with that type of comment.

“You’re looking at it and going, “He has only been there a short bit of time and he’s actually straight away gone, he’s pulled out the nine-millimetre revolver and just gone bang”. There’s no way back from that,” he added.

The former England man continued by saying Amorim has now set a dangerous precedent should Rashford find his way back in the fold with the other players likely to think they can “take their foot off the gas.”

Ferdinand says if he found himself in Rashford’s shoes he would fight back against attacks on his professionalism and would relish the chance of a conversation with the United forward to get to the bottom of the situation.

“For me, if it isn’t true, I’m coming out all guns blazing. I’m holding a press conference and saying “I’m not having anyone say that about me.

“You only do that if you are 100 per cent sure that nobody can say you’re taking shortcuts. We’re in an era where you have the ability to really communicate with the fans directly so the story is not getting twisted.

“I would love to sit across the table from Marcus and look into his eyes and see if he could say that. If you can’t, you have to look at yourself,” said Rio.

With just days remaining in the winter window, Rashford and his team are going to have to get their skates on to finalise a move away from Old Trafford for the second half of the season, at least.

A loan move for the remainder of the campaign always seemed the most viable option for a player who is on astronomical wages in Manchester.

United are back in action this week with Rashford not expected to play a part in the Europa League trip to Steaua Bucharest on Thursday evening.

Man United set to finalise €37.5m deal for game-changing European starlet – Di Marzio

Manchester United are finalising the “last details” of a deal worth €37.5 million to sign Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu, according to Gianluca di Marzio.

Dorgu, 20, has emerged as a priority target for the Red Devils heading into the final week of the January transfer window after a move for Paris Saint-Germin defender Nuno Mendes proved too costly.

The Danish international, a left wing-back who has also played as a right-winger for Lecce this season, was personally approved by Ruben Amorim as a solution to the United coach’s ongoing issues in the problem position.

Neither Luke Shaw nor Tyrell Malacia – the two existing left-back options at Old Trafford – are capable of meeting the demands Amorim places upon his wing-backs.

This has led to Diogo Dalot being deployed out-of-position on the left-hand side, with the Portuguese fullback struggling in the unfamiliar role.

As such, United executives are prioritising a move for a new left wing-back this month, despite the club’s ongoing financial issues and the acute pressure of the Premier League’s profits and sustainability rules (PSR).

The Reds have seen two separate proposals for Dorgu rejected by Lecce who were believed to have set a €40 million valuation if the Dane was to leave in January.

However, there was “confidence” amongst United’s recruitment team that a compromise could be struck to reduce this price.

And it appears this optimism was justified, as Di Marzio reveals a €37.5 million agreement is set to be reached, with only €30 million of this up front.

        https://tweet.com/DiMarzio/status/1884253014674047081

Tweet: “@ManUtd and @OfficialUSLecce are defining last details over payment terms for Patrick #Dorgu on a deal worth €30m + €7.5 in add-ons. @SkySport”

The Sky Sports transfer expert is corroborated by Alfredo Pedulla, another Italian journalist, who contends Lecce are set to give the “green light” to a deal for “just under €40 million.”

Dorgu will join Arsenal defender Ayden Heaven as two new signings for Amorim in defence if the Dane’s move is, as expected, finalised this week.

Heaven, 18, was reported to have agreed terms to swap the Emirates for Old Trafford in a repeat move of Chido Obi-Martin’s transfer in the summer. An inside source at the United academy suggests the ball-playing defender will slot straight into the first-team squad as “cover” for Lisandro Martinez, despite being mainly a youth player for the Gunners.

Amorim will undoubtedly be happy with two new options for the left-hand side of the pitch given the struggles he has watched his new side endure since arriving from Sporting CP in November.

Amorim ‘doesn’t want’ 14 Man Utd stars ‘not just three’ with Dorgu ‘deal getting closer’

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes reckons Ruben Amorim wants to get rid of as many as 14 players at Old Trafford as soon as possible.

The Red Devils have had a terrible season so far with their fortunate 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday pushing Ruben Amorim’s side one place up the Premier League table to 12th.

Amorim has inherited a squad from Erik ten Hag full of underperforming stars and players unable to fit into his 3-4-3 formation, playing style and philosophy.

And Scholes fears that Amorim has a bigger job on his hands at Man Utd than Mikel Arteta did when arriving at Arsenal in 2019.

Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil and Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang all left shortly after Arteta arrived at the Emirates Stadium and Amorim appears to be trying to do the same at Man Utd with Marcus Rashford after deeming his training displays unacceptable.

But when it was put to Scholes that Amorim could be attempting to copy Arteta, the Man Utd legend said on The Overlap: “The trouble Amorim’s got is there’s not just three of them. You could be talking about 13 or 14 of them he doesn’t want.”

And Man Utd could be set to add their first new face to Amorim’s squad soon with transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insisting that a deal for Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu is ‘getting closer’.

Romano wrote on X: ‘Manchester United and Lecce are in direct contact again right now for Patrick Dorgu. Deal getting closer for €36/37m package and parties still confident to get the agreement done. Dorgu wants the move, five year deal ready at Man United — agreed also on agents side.’

Former Man Utd winger Lee Sharpe has urged the Red Devils to sign another striker after Rasmus Hojlund‘s poor display against Fulham with Joshua Zirkzee currently “doing a better job” than the Dane.

Sharp told Texas Poker: “I think Rasmus Hojlund has really struggled. Against Fulham, he was wrestling players, he wasn’t getting hold of the ball and when he tried to lay it off, he just ended up giving it away. I watched Joshua Zirkzee play in the same position recently and thought he held the ball up well and brought in players a lot better than Hojlund did – he sees passes with one and two touches that I don’t think Hojlund sees at the moment.

“I know Zirkzee isn’t an ‘out and out’ number nine, but I still think he’s doing a better job than what Hojlund does at the moment.

“It can be argued that Hojlund takes the brunt of the criticism when his team are not playing well and not scoring goals, but when the team isn’t performing then the first thing you need your centre-forward to do is hold the ball up well to allow other players to get into the game. He’s just not doing the basics right at the moment – I know it’s difficult for him up there on his own, but he does need to do better.

“I think the club have to sign another striker. Considering the amount of games each team has to play each season and the nature of running the channels for 90 minutes all the time, they should definitely look to bring in another forward so players like Hojlund can share that burden.”

“Unwilling to listen”: Napoli’s pursuit of Garnacho set to end in flames over key issue for United – report

Napoli are unwilling to offer a proposal in excess of €55 million for Alejandro Garnacho despite Manchester United’s valuation of the 20-year-old winger remaining far higher than this figure.

Tuttosport, an Italian newspaper, claim the Serie A leaders will refuse to “send an improved offer” after setting their “maximum bid to €50m plus €5m add-ons”, as relayed by Football Italia

The report reveals Napoli officials have informed their Manchester counterparts of this limit after negotiations for Garnacho were reopened between the two clubs this week.

Napoli have already seen an official bid rejected by United, which led the Italian club to enter talks with Borussia Dortmund over a move for Karim Adeyemi as an alternative target to Garnacho. However, the report by Football Italia contends, Adeyemi “dreams of a move to the Premier League next season” and negotiations have been put “on hold” as a result.

This breakdown in talks explains why I Partenopei have reignited a move for Garnacho with the 20-year-old reported to have signalled his willingness to swap Manchester for Naples earlier this month.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, Garnacho reached an “agreement in principle” with Napoli over a five-year deal a few weeks ago. And the youngster is now “ready to put pressure” on United to force through a move.

Manager Antonio Conte is thought to have identified the Argentine starlet as the “number one target” to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who joined Paris Saint-Germain in a €70 million move this window – a similar price to the one United are demanding for Garnacho.

The 20-year-old attacker is best deployed on the left-wing in a 4-3-3 formation; the exactly sane as Conte has guided Napoli to the top of the Serie A table with.

By contrast, Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system leaves Garnacho without an obvious home, as he lacks the defensive nous to play as a wingback and the link-up ability to operate as a number ten in the front three. And this uncomfortable fit is believed to have been a driving factor in Garnacho’s openness to leaving United this month.

However, Amorim has been impressed by the Argentinian international’s improved work rate and application since the Portuguese coach dropped the winger for the Manchester Derby in December, along with Marcus Rashford, citing issues with “standards” as the reason.

But while Rashford continues to be omitted from match-day squads by Amorim, Garnacho has been reinstated and is now regularly starting in the attack. Furthermore, in recent games, he has been even deployed more often on his natural left-hand side, suggesting a tactical alteration by Amorim to get the best out of the youngster.

This improved relationship between manager and player, combined with the fact that, so far, United have stood firm over their €70 million of Garnacho, suggests the Argentinian international is closer to sticking than twisting with his future at Old Trafford.

Napoli being unwilling to go higher than a €55 million package for the winger will only strengthen this feeling amongst United executives.

Amorim “far from convinced” with struggling United star, INEOS ready to sell him if he fails to recapture form – report

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has struggled big time this season, managing only seven goals in all competitions with only two of them coming in the Premier League.

The Dane has not scored in the last 11 games and has looked lost up front on his own as seen from his disastrous display against Fulham last Sunday.

The 21-year-old hardly managed to hold on to the ball under pressure, losing virtually every duel and managing only six successful passes in 58 minutes before Ruben Amorim was forced to take him off.

After emerging as the club’s top-scorer in his debut campaign, many had predicted an even brighter sophomore season for the former Atalanta starlet but on current evidence, he seems to have regressed.

              Rasmus has struggled this season

So much so that from being considered untouchable last summer, INEOS are reportedly open to moving him on next summer should the right offer come their way.

Now Talksport have added that the new head coach is far from convinced with the Denmark international and that United No 9 is effectively on trial from now until the end of the season.

If he cannot win over the Portuguese tactician, he will be sold once the season concludes with several Serie A teams in the race including Napoli and Juventus.

“Rasmus Hojlund was previously viewed as one of the few players Manchester United would not entertain bids for. But that stance looks to have changed and Hojlund will effectively find himself on trial between now and the end of the season.

              Amorim not convinced

As previously explained on The Peoples Person, should the Red Devils decide to move him on, they risk the prospect of incurring a huge loss on their initial investment.

The 20-time English league champions had paid an astonishing £64 million initially to land Hojlund on former boss Erik ten Hag’s orders but will likely recoup less than that given the striker’s current woes.

Amorim wants to reunite with former Sporting Lisbon protege Viktor Gyokeres next summer with United desperately in need of a ruthless finisher, something Hojlund is not currently.

He has potential to be a great striker but given the club’s current predicament, they need more than potential to reclaim former glories.

Amorim has 10-man transfer list and Arsenal fans have lost their minds over Michael Oliver

Ruben Amorim needs to ship out at least 10 players before embarking on a busy summer at Man Utd, while the Michael Oliver and Arsenal discourse continues.

                Send your thoughts to theeditor@football365.com.

                Amorim’s big summer
Given United’s season is arguably over in the league, but still remain in the FA Cup and Europa League, it’s a similar story to last year where a cup run is the only possible meaning of success for the manager and the players.

With no cash available in buying a few players this January transfer window, and possibly better that way for Amorim so a bad decision in purchasing a player isn’t made, it’s a case where United need a summer transfer window so badly (again) in getting some new blood in but more important getting at least 9 players out.

Lets be clear on the at ten players who need to just jump ship for several reasons.

Antony (The worst signing possibly ever in the Premier League)

Rashford (He’s peaked and Amorim already dislikes him as a player, can’t see how someone can score 30 goals in one season then score just 8 goals in the following season…)

Lindelof (I never had anything against him as a player, but time to move on)

Shaw (Good player but not reliable unfortunately due to injuries)

Mount (Average player and not reliable, purely came to United for money)

Casemiro (Just done as a top player, he was great in his first season at United, but big decline since then)

Eriksen (Great player imo, but legs have gone, time to move on)

Evans (Why did we re-sign him? To keep company for Heaton in the dressing room?)

Malacia (For several reasons, not fit enough)

Sancho (Just seems like a bit of a wasteman)

I would maybe add Onana on this list as well, as he makes way too many mistakes in goal, but given United have so many problems in the outfield position, perhaps he has just about gotten away with it. Oh and let’s be clear, If Ten Haag had a major say in the signings he made in his 2 and a half years in charge, he has done a bloody terrible job, some shocking decisions to say the least.

Amorim and the board (If they are arsed) needs to somehow convince other clubs to purchase these players, while offering them a similar wage per week. I don’t know which clubs would be daft enough for some of the players mentioned above, but you just have to hope some players take a considerate wage cut in actually wanting to play regular football.

As for the assessment of United this season in terms of performances on the pitch, I can whole heartedly say that only four players have been somewhat ‘decent’ this season, as only consistent performers showing quality this season has been Fernandes, Amad, Martinez and Mazraoui. Everyone else needs to step up big time. I may include Ugarte as well, but lets wait how the rest of his season goes.

                What’s the point?
Week by week it’s becoming increasingly convincing that the Premier League is arguably a highly successful modern scam. It’s another embodiment of that trendy new word doing the rounds: enshittification. Let’s review some undeniable facts:

Liverpool got screwed by utterly incompetent officiating in a game against Sp*rs last season. The PGMOL subsequently said they would revise their processes and methodologies in reviewing decisions.

Former Premier League referee David Coote was filmed making innapropriate remarks about Liverpool’s former manager which indicated that he clearly had a bias against them. In his last game he made some extremely strange incorrect decisions against Liverpool which even impartial commentators complained about.

Last season, Michael Oliver refused to send Kovacic off during a game against Arsenal for blatant red card challenges because he “did not want to ruin the game”.

Michael Oliver has travelled to the U.A.E. to referee games and was paid to do this by the owners of Manchester City.

Mikel Arteta went on his famous “desgracia” rant against the PGMOL last season after a dubious decision in which Gabriel Magalhaes was potentially fouled in the build up to a Newcastle goal.

Arsenal have been on the receiving end of several unprecedented red cards this season for incidents which have not been punished before or since. Apparently the anal “letter of the law” attitude only applies to Arsenal and not to other clubs. Since Declan Rice and Leo Trossard’s red cards we’ve seen plenty of balls being kicked away to delay time by players already on a yellow card but none of these players have been punished for this. Let’s also not forget that Rice got assaulted by Veltman who lashed out at him in rage with the pretence that he was trying to kick the ball and there was no card given to Veltman for that.

Michael Oliver decides last weekend to give Lewis-Skelly a straight red card for a tactical foul the kind of which has only ever been punished with a yellow card before and I’m quite sure there won’t be any more red cards given for a challenge like that for the rest of this season (unless another Arsenal player does it). Oh and who does Arsenal play the very next week when Lewis-Skelly will be suspended? Manchester City.

Oliver has now given Arsenal 8 red cards in 55 games. Most of these are justified but this is still a very outlandish statistic.

Manchester City have received 0 red cards from Oliver, let’s not forget the aforementioned Kovacic challenges that deserved a red.

Last season’s title race was determined by an extremely narrow margin of 2 points, a few dropped points here and there due to refereeing incompetence can clearly have a substantial effect on the final outcome of a season.

Are we seriously still supposed to believe this is a fair competition? Considering all of the above on top of the shady finances of Manchester City’s owners who are also known to be inhumane in their own country? The league and the PGMOL are criminally incapable of running the competition with even a minimum degree of fairness and we all sit around barking at each other, overanalysing totally bizarre decisions that would definitely annoy us if it went against our respective teams. The allegedly “greatest and bestest league of all time in the universe” can’t implement even the most bare minimum checks and balances to resolve conflicts of interest. Bankers, lawyers, accountants and police officers have to declare potential conflicts of interest to ensure the integrity of their work but in the most lucrative football league in the world Michael Oliver can get paid by the owners of a specific team, make unjustifiable decisions that favour this team and he won’t be investigated for it or dropped from refereeing games where he could have a conflict of interest.

Are we all falling for a massive scam? That’s the question we need to ask ourselves as we continue to follow this shambolically managed league. The PL has treated us all as consumers and customers for a long time therefore it’s time we treated them as we would treat any other business and recognised that their “product” is f**king awful. Stop letting Sky, TNT sports and all the other broadcasters fleece you with their ridiculous prices and start viewing perfectly legal streams from dodgy websites on the internet.

Do fans cost their teams points?
ED Quoththeraven concluded that arsenal fans seem to be more focused on their personal sense of injustice over the actual result, which led me to question, do their fans actually cost their team points each season?

Everyone knows that on a good year the Anfield crowd adds an extra few points onto Liverpool’s total each season.  In recent years even the Etihad crowd has cooked up a storm.  Real Madrid saying that it is the most terrifying stadium they have ever played in and VVD quoted as saying that it is his toughest.  Fans matter.

If reports from their own fans are to be true, 10% of the arsenal crowd left when villa equalised a couple of weeks ago.  Half the crowd apparently had left at full time.  Can you image that happening in Istanbul in 2005 or the Nou Camp in 1999.  We’d have had no agueroooooo moment without the crowd sucking the goal into the back of the net.  It must cost them points across the length of the season.  Imagine being a player needing a goal to win a game and seeing match day fans leaving the ground when the team needs them more than ever.  And please don’t give me this public transport at the Emirates nonsense.  Think of all the united fans who have to get back to London after each home game…..

Then you have the you tubers who literally make a living slagging off the players and manager.   The “i told you so” crowd when Arsenal lose/draw.   How can drawing up contempt for the manager and the players possibly have a net positive points influence on the team.  How can sending abuse and even death threats to Havertz’s wife motivate him to score goals.

And then we have referring decisions.  The large proportion of Arsenal’s sending off this season comes from petulance.  Not mistimed tackles but kicking the ball away or deliberate fouls.  The manager and the fans then blame the ref and/or VAR.  The player is portrayed as a victim and allowed to get away with it, resulting in countless numbers of red cards for similar petulant reasons.   As ED rightly surmises, the whole club from manager to players to fans are more concerned with a personal sense of injustice that actually wining.  This just gives the players (and their fans) an excuse for not winning which equates to more points lost.

Are there any other examples of fans costing their teams points each season?  Are there any other actions fans do that cause teams to lose points?  Is Gunnersaurus Arsene Wenger in disguise?

                Oliver!
Hello to all at the F365 Towers. Long time reader and always will be. I rarely ever write in to the mailbox. However, as I read Dave Tickner’s piece where he is diligently apportioning blame all around, I found something obvious missing.

I actually agree completely on the point that this was in the ‘Orange’ card category. Harsh, but you’ve seen them given. Many Arsenal fans agree too. It is not my place to speak for the hyperbole by the punditry. The problem Arsenal fans have (and we’ll take the blame for it) is with Mr. Michael ‘2 yellow cards for Martinelli+no card for Kovacic because big game + no red card ever for City + Trossard absurd 2nd yellow (you get the drift)’ Oliver. He is now under the microscope and there is enough objective data over a period of time to observe the bias. This is what is missing from Dave. So yes, every ‘little’ thing he now does will be called out.

This is why the mail on the faux outrage is spot on. The PGMOL would like the narrative to be Michael Oliver the victim rather than Michael Oliver the biased or possibly corrupt.
Shashank, Toronto, AFC (wondering what Conor Byrne is up to these days)

I read your pious admonishment of Arsenal fans and media over Michael Oliver with some disbelief. Why are you acting as if the Dominic Raab of referees hasn’t been awful for years? It’s not just Arsenal he is a problem for.

One of the greatest endings to a play-off match (Watford vs Leicester) only happened because of his terrible officiating. Its easy to gloss over it now, but if Anthony Knockhaert had scored that dubious penalty Oliver blew for, we would not be talking about Troy Deeney’s goal. Do you think Watford fans have forgotten that even though they won?

I’m a United fan and every time I see his name as a ref for our games I know that I’m going to get annoyed at yet another inept display from a man elevated far beyond his capabilities. I still remember him sending off Di Maria for touching him on his shoulder, and this was AFTER he didn’t send of Joe Hart for head-butting him. Anyone who doesn’t believe me can easily find that online. The decision last season to give Dalot two yellow cards in five seconds still rankles and I don’t understand why he was fast tracked at all.

The PGMOL coming out in support of a frankly terrible decision does them no favours. Yes, its true that we can’t expect referees to be robots, but we CAN expect levels of competence. I truly believe the massive decline in quality of referees in the Premier League is linked to his elevation. There is now an acceptance for poor officiating because calling him out or punishing him would be a problem since he’s been placed on top of the ladder.

When I never have to hear his name again it will be a great day for football.
                Israel, (MUFC since 1977)

                Morning

Reading the mailbox last 2 days, I think F365 are complicit in this abuse of Michael Oliver.

You are printing letters off arse fans still justifying their stance but saying abuse is bad- and these are the ones that are reasonable.

And where is the statement from Arsenal the club & Arteta condemning the abuse & threats?

Perhaps they wouldn’t have so many decisions go against them ( Newsflash: they don’t) if they didn’t b*tch & moan about everything that does.

You go high on a leg you are giving the ref a decision to make, and if you routinely castigate refs for anything they do against you then why would they want to do you a favour? Give you the benefit of the doubt?

                Cheers
                Kevin

READ MOREArsenal are ‘refereed differently’ and should be able to blacklist ref to prevent ‘playing with such a disadvantage’

                Arsenal fans losing their minds
                Hi there,

I worry that Arsenal fans are going to do themselves a mischief over their fury over Lewis-Skelly’s sending off. While I, on balance, wouldn’t have awarded it, it was a deliberate foul with no attempt to play the ball, Lewis-Skelly had his studs showing,  and he hit Matt Doherty well above the ankle, These are all things that referees consider when thinking about whether or not a tackle constitutes “Serious Foul Play,” and, if you squint a bit, you can easily persuade yourself to ratify that decision. While it’s a bit of a harsh decision, it’s hardly the Birmingham Six and fans portraying it as a desperate miscarriage of justice are losing the run of themselves.

Again, I would not have sent him off, but it’s not “inarguably” a yellow, as shown by the simple fact that people are arguing it. I wonder if Arsenal supporters are processing their understandable frustration about how their team aren’t very much fun to watch, and seem to be under instructions not to try to score more than one goal in a game in case they run out, and blaming it on external factors rather than looking internally. It’s no way to live.
                Dara O’Reilly, London

Just to chip in on the whole Arsenal conspiracy/bias debate, it would be interesting to see genuine analysis of these decisions. Thankfully we can, because we have the Premier League’s KMI (Key Match Incident) Panel, which analyses decisions after every game. This isn’t a panel of referees, but a panel of ex-players and coaches, who are independent from the PGMOL. So how does this Arsenal bias play out?

Last season, Arsenal came out neutral. 2 major decisions against and 2 for. Bottom of the table, with 4 decisions against were Brighton, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest (one of the one’s for Liverpool, the Odegard handball, actually going in favour of Arsenal).

What about this season? Up to gameweek 19 where the data is available, Arsenal were actually +1. The one incident deemed that a challenge by Thomas Partey on Marcos Senesi should have been a penalty. All other decisions were deemed to be correct. We’ve had a few gameweek’s since then, so at best Arsenal are neutral, but they certainly are not being hard done by.

I’m well aware that this email is futile. If you put evidence in front of a conspiracy theorist, they will simply deny it is credible. The KMI panel is biassed too! But it’s nice for everyone else to know that there isn’t really much in it. Some decisions go your way, some against. Arsenal fans are just struggling to accept it.
                Mike, LFC, Dubai

I opened the F365 mailbox this morning and my heart sank as a headline with the word “Arsenal” came screaming off the page at me. Oh no. I just about had enough gumption to wade thru Rob A’s effort at the top of the pile. Fair enough Rob. You say straight off  that this isn’t a conspiracy against Arsenal. Then spend the rest of the mail backing into the very stereotype you’re trying to avoid by basically claiming that it is.

Social media Arsenal types need to step away from the computer. Sure they are being fed horseshit by the likes of AFTV and they are gobbling it up . But I even saw a post this morning whining about Myles Lewis,Skelly not being “protected”. It has 16k likes! I mean the foul itself wasn’t exactly soft? I don’t think it should have been red. But it’s at least a hard yellow. High, cynical and so late the foul itself got detention as a result. And claiming Gomes second yellow was a worse foul is comical. It wasn’t as late, or high, or cynical, and was a genuine attempt to play the ball. A yellow card all day.

FWIW Michael Oliver used to be a very fair ref and quite lenient IMHO. I think he should be taken off Arsenal games for the moment. It’s just not worth the hassle. For all of us.

                Quick points
                1. Arsenal – It was a red – and these should be given more often. I’ve never been happy with the ‘Taking one for the team’ excuse when a player hacks down another simply because he’s got away from him. Sneaky, petulant, unfair – get ’em off.  And his one could have been nastier than it turned out to be. No sympathy for him or the Arse.

                2. Spurs – Stop blaming Levy just because he is the common denominator. Have you ever heard any fans or ex-players/coaches saying anything other than ‘throw money at the situation’ if its not going right. Lame. They have spent money – in all areas. They have decent players. And at times recently they have played some pretty decent stuff aswell as the dross. Certainly better then Utd. They just can’t seem to transfer that into winning enough.  Levy isnt coaching them. There are plenty of examples of teams with ‘lesser’ players doing well if you can get the right combination. Chucking tens of millions here and there to see if it will make a difference is not the way to go – and Levy knows that. Liverpool dont do that (and they can afford to) – they never sign anyone unless they have done full research and are 100% happy that its the right thing to do. They never panic buy. They work with what they have – trust in the process and the players. And they seem to do ok. They had a horrific injury season a few years ago and they just sucked it up and let Klopp deal with it until the crisis was over.

For me managers are there to sort things out when things go wrong – not just do things that go right – and if they dont then get rid. Ridiculous. Otherwise you’ve employed the wrong guy in the first place.

These 2 quick points turned out to be not as quick as intended.

Was happy GON gone. Happy with beating utd and getting 7 points.

Since then cunha wants out, half the team wants out. The owners not investing, all the amazing players we had coming up from the championship are all gone to far better places. Less then a week of the window we won’t have new signings we have a crumbling defence, actually crumbling team.

                Dull and boring?
Call me a cynic, but I expect Ken from Brentford’s assessment of the quality of the Premier League this season is directly proportional to how well his own (undisclosed) team is doing. One could critically rebut his allegations (which I am sure others will do) but you know what they say about arguing with an idiot, right?*

                Looking for Eric
A contributor with pen-name Bart Simpson recently shouted out an “Eric” but surely they refer not to me but another Eric in the mailbox (I hope ?).  I might recall seeing another Eric maybe somewhat recently, but not totally sure.  Anyway can’t speak for another Eric but if The Other Eric is anything like me, he’ll be equal parts petrified and gutted to be lumped in with the Stewie (presumably Griffin) of this parish.

Wait, isn’t there an Eric Cartman contributor in the mailbox ?  So Bart, Stewie, Eric.  Can’t trust my dodgy recollect but that would make much more sense, an all-time cartoony triumvirate (like any combination of a Man Utd front three).

That must be it, I’m over it now.

Exclusive: United’s CL winning defender blasts “horrible” Rashford treatment, tells club to “resolve” situation

Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown has revealed he hopes Marcus Rashford remains at the club beyond the January transfer window and that he “sorts things out” with head coach Ruben Amorim.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with The Peoples Person, courtesy of New Betting Sites UK, Brown was asked whether he felt Rashford should look to leave Old Trafford this month, with the club open to his departure before the February 3 deadline.

“I don’t think it’s as simple as that,” the 45-year-old replied. “When you’re on a lot of money like [Rashford is]; first of all, you need teams to want you. It’s not as easy someone who is on less money.”

Rashford’s current salary at United is believed to be in excess of £300,000 a week, having agreed a blockbuster new five-year deal in the summer of 2023. However, since that deal was signed, the 27-year-old’s form has declined significantly on the pitch.

There have also been multiple incidents off the field, most notably when Rashford missed training due to an unauthorized night out in Belfast – described by The Sun as a “12-hour tequila bender” – three days before an FA Cup fourth-round tie. Rashford was dropped for this match as a result.

There was hope that the chance for a fresh start under Amorim, who swapped Lisbon for Manchester during the November international break to replace Erik ten Hag.

And Rashford began life under the Portuguese coach brilliantly, scoring in the 2nd minute of Amorim’s debut match against Ipswich Town. The next Premier League fixture saw the 27-year-old go one better, scoring twice as United ran out 4-0 winners over Everton at Old Trafford.

However, the situation soured a few weeks later with Amorim dropping Rashford, along with fellow attacker Alejandro Garnacho, for the Manchester Derby on December 15. The Portuguese coach explained the pair’s absence was not a disciplinary issue, but related to their “performance in training” and standards off the pitch.

Three days later, Rashford released an interview with journalist Henry Winter where the forward revealed he was “ready for a new challenge” away from Old Trafford. Since this point, Rashford has not played for United; and this does not appear likely to to change any time soon.

The 27-year-old has not even been selected for a match-day squad by Amorim, outside of a game against Newcastle where injuries forced the Portuguese coach to include Rashford. The next week, for the trip to Anfield to face bitter rivals Liverpool, he was once again omitted from the squad.

Rashford’s representatives have entered negotiations with a number of clubs this month, including Barcelona, AC Milan, and Borussia Dortmund. A loan move is considered the only viable exit given the 27-year-old’s lack of form and exorbitant wages, but even a temporary exit from Old Trafford has proven unworkable for Rashford to find.

And it’s this issue with wages which leads to Brown’s assertion that Rashford’s departure is far from “simple”, believing there is “too much involved” for a deal to be agreed in the final week of the window.

Barcelona remain interested in signing Rashford on loan before the February 3 deadline, but they need outbound transfers to be able to bring the 27-year-old in. Similarly, Dortmund retain hope a last-minute deal can be agreed with United, but it would require a significant portion of Rashford’s wages to be covered for a loan to be agreed.

Neither of these potential departures will be ‘simple’ for Old Trafford executives to negotiate.

However, Amorim’s comments following the 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday evening – the head coach claimed he would rather put 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital in his squad than a player who “do[esn’t] give the maximum every day,” – will have reiterated to the club’s senior figures that Rashford’s future is a ‘simple’ one for their head coach.

Amorim is evidently not backing down over his assessment of Rashford’s position in his squad, and Brown believes, “at the moment, you do not see that changing.”

Brown, an academy graduate who went on to win 13 trophies during the most successful period in the club’s history, describes the situation as “horrible” given Rashford has come through the youth system at Old Trafford. He maintains the forward is a “very important player” for the club and wants the “whole thing to be resolved, in whatever manner.”

The former defender concludes, “I just hope Marcus gets back to playing football, enjoying himself and scoring goals. My hope is he doesn’t go and he’s at the club till the end of the season, and he sorts it out with the manager.”

United plot sensational move for 21 year old playmaker likened to Messi – report

Manchester United, Liverpool, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the English clubs keeping a close eye on Lyon’s Rayan Cherki, whose impressive form has sparked significant transfer interest.

The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has registered 13 goal contributions in 24 appearances this season, making him one of Europe’s standout young talents.

He has been compared to Lionel Messi by Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas.

Cherki is reportedly available for a cut-price fee of €22 million, as Lyon face financial struggles compounded by the looming threat of relegation to Ligue 2.

While representatives of the Frenchman are actively seeking a move, the timing of a potential transfer remains uncertain.

According to Caughtoffside, Liverpool and Man United have enquired about Cherki but are reportedly hesitant to move during the January window due to logistical constraints.

Both clubs are said to prefer waiting until the summer to strengthen in Cherki’s position.

Spurs have also shown interest, but their priority remains acquiring a centre-back.

Despite their initial inquiries, Spurs are yet to make any formal approach for the Lyon ace. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been loosely linked with the player, though their focus for this window appears to be securing a reliable striker rather than a creative midfielder.

The competition for Cherki extends beyond England.

Bayern Munich is reportedly the most serious contender outside the Premier League, with Bayer Leverkusen and Paris Saint-Germain also expressing interest.

Like their English counterparts, the latter two clubs may wait until the summer to pursue Cherki more aggressively.

Serie A side Atalanta has shown a willingness to offer €20 million for the French midfielder during this window. However, Cherki is understood to be hesitant about a move to the Italian league, leaving Atalanta’s efforts in limbo.

Cherki’s availability at such a modest fee has been described as an “absolute bargain,” given his potential and current form.

With Lyon under pressure to sell, the next few days will be critical in determining whether the player will make an immediate switch or if clubs will battle it out for him in the summer transfer window.

Amad delivers hilarious social media retort to Fulham powerhouse after Lisandro Martinez’s late heroics

Manchester United secured three vital Premier League points on Sunday with a hard fought win against Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The game wont live long in the memory and took a deflected long range effort from Lisandro Martinez to break the deadlock in the latter stages of the second half.

However, it was a much needed win for Amorim’s men and Martinez’s late strike was a fine personal moment for him in a game he has recent history in.

United won the reverse fixture by the same score line on the opening day of the season with Martinez coming out on top in his personal battle with Fulham powerhouse Adama Traore on the night.

That win prompted the United man to take a swipe at Traore in his post match interview, telling Sky Sports he “sent him (Traore) to the gym”.

The Fulham attacker responded at the time with a “don’t worry, we will meet again,” message via social media and the pair were expected to collide on Sunday.

Collide they did with Martinez perhaps lucky to escape punishment for a rather crude looking challenge on the Spaniard after his introduction as a second half substitute.

The pair exchanged a push and a shove after the incident that occurred just moments before Martinez lashed home the games only goal.

Martinez enjoyed an all round excellent 90 minutes and certainly proved himself a match for Traore once more despite the apparent strength advantage the forward possesses.

Despite the Martinez showing, Traore wasn’t willing to to put a line under the personal beef the pair are developing and posted a photo of himself with Martinez on the floor after the weekend fixture.

The post included the caption “Tough loss. We deserved more, but we will keep working hard and improving.”

Traore’s Instagram post was clearly not lost on United star Amad Diallo who would have doubled his side’s lead on the night had it not been for a hairline VAR intervention in stoppage time.

The Ivorian posted a a GIF of Martinez winking in clear reference to his match winner and spat with the Fulham man.

It’s evident spirits are high in the United dressing room and the team will now look to build on the notable victory against Marco Silva’s men which was their fifth win from six in 2025, including the FA Cup shootout success against Arsenal.

Amorim’s men are back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Bucharest for the last league game of the Europa League, knowing a draw will be enough to guarantee them automatic qualification to the round of 16.
