Video: United legend blasts superstar for “letting people down”, wants Amorim to “banish” him from the dressing room

Video: United legend blasts superstar for “letting people down”, wants Amorim to “banish” him from the dressing room

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s future continues to be a topic of discussion with less than a week to go for the January transfer window to close.

The Mancunian, after being dropped from the Manchester derby matchday squad by Ruben Amorim, decided to do an interview in which he claimed he was open to leaving his boyhood club.

Since then, the head coach has refused to afford him any gametime with Amorim complaining about the Englishman’s lack of effort in training.

“The reason is the training, what I think a footballer should do in training, in life and every day, every detail. So if things don’t change, I will not change.

    Rashford’s attitude under the scanner

“It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things, we can use every player. I will put in (Jorge) Vital before I put in a player who doesn’t give the maximum every day.”

United legend Paul Scholes was asked about Amorim’s comments during The Overlap Fan Debate and he explained that the United No 10 had let a lot of people down, including his teammates with his attitude, which has been questioned in the past as well.

The legendary midfielder shared an anecdote from his playing days to drive the point home further and also claimed that while the Carrington graduate should have ideally been a role-model for all the young players coming through the system, he is setting the wrong examples.

“I think Marcus has let a lot of people down really, with his attitude, and I think that’s what the manager is trying to say. You think of the young players coming through the team, think of (Alejandro) Garnacho, they’re looking up to people like Marcus now – he’s 27 years of age, and he’s clearly not training properly.

“I remember years ago when I told the manager (Alex Ferguson) I didn’t want to play in that Arsenal game… he said to me ‘the worst thing you did is let your team-mates down’, and that really stuck with me because I wasn’t really thinking about that – and now I think Marcus Rashford, he’s doing exactly the same.

“OK, he’s not refusing to play, but in the way he’s behaving and the way he’s training, in a way he is saying I don’t want to be involved with these.

    Scholes blasts Rashford

“So I think the fact of letting your team-mates down in that dressing room – he should be banished from the dressing room really. If he’s in and around that and young people are seeing that as an example, the sooner he’s gone the better.”

But moving on has proved to be more difficult than anticipated with AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund moving on to other targets due to the England international’s adamant stance of only joining Barcelona.

And so far, the Catalan giants have failed to make space for him in the squad and time is running out for the 27-year-old to find a new home with the Spanish side unlikely to afford his humongous wages.

INEOS want him gone as well as his sale would count as pure profit while getting his wages off the books would help with the club’s not-so-rosy PSR outlook.

Man Utd transfers: Rio Ferdinand urges former club to sign ‘world-class’ striker amid striker issues

Man Utd transfers: Rio Ferdinand urges former club to sign ‘world-class’ striker amid striker issues

Manchester United have been urged to move for a ‘world-class’ striker to help end their struggles in front of goal.

A nightmare showing against Fulham, despite winning, from the young Danish forward has shined a light on their attacking issues.

Two goals in 18 Premier League games makes for poor reading but Hojlund has now failed to score in 36 of his 48 Premier League games for United since joining from Atalanta in a deal worth £72million in 2023.

Despite moments of promise shown last season, the 21-year-old is starting to cause frustration among fans and his partner Joshua Zirkzee is failing to flatter as well – managing no shots after coming on against Fulham.

While the January deadline is unlikely to bring any respite in that position, United are likely to have a striker down as a key target for the summer transfer window.

Ex-Man United defender Rio Ferdinand believes there is one target that stands out in Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray, who he believes United should go and get now.

“I’ve watched him [Hojlund] the last two games closely and I’m like, it just doesn’t add up,” said Ferdinand. “I’d be going to get Osimhen now.

“If we could do it from a financial standpoint, get him on loan, I’d go and get Osimhen now. [He] guarantees you somebody who can get on the end of things, scores goals, he’s experienced, done it at the top level.”

      Can United sign Osimhen?

As it stands, the Nigerian forward will remain in Turkey until the end of the season as he is currently enjoying a fruitful spell with 16 goals and five assists in 20 games.

Labelled as ‘world-class‘ by Jose Mourinho, the 26-year-old is one of the best forwards that will be available come the summer.

However, ESPN journalist Mark Ogden has claimed that United would consider Ferdinand’s wishes of signing him mid-season, but it seems unlikely and it may be something to revisit in the summer.

DON’T MISS: Man Utd to iron out two Chelsea transfers as Christopher Nkunku conditions set

Alejandro Garnacho has been tied to Napoli as a potential replacement for Kvicha Kvaraskhelia which could potentially open the door in the summer.

Multiple clubs have been linked with the young attacker and he has reportedly told United that the only club he would leave for would be the Italians.

Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move in recent weeks and could even offer Christopher Nkunku as a possible striker alternative for the present, which may interest United.

However, Gary Neville has been vocal about such a move and claims United should turn that potential offer down because Nkunku has ‘barely kicked a ball’ this season.

United set for huge financial boost as European giant blows open race to sign Casemiro – Sky Sports

United set for huge financial boost as European giant blows open race to sign Casemiro – Sky Sports

AS Roma have “asked for information” about the prospect of signing Manchester United star Casemiro, according to Sky Sports Italy.

The 32-year-old midfielder, who turns 33 next month, has fallen down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim with the Portuguese coach preferring 21-year-old Toby Collyer over the experienced Brazilian.

Casemiro has not played for United since December 30 during the 2-0 defeat to Newcastle – a match which saw him and fellow 32-year-old teammate Christian Eriksen completely overwhelmed in midfield.

Amorim’s system relies on a pivot midfield with players capable of pressing high to exert pressure on the opposition, but retaining the stamina to be able to cover large distances in transition.

Casemiro, as Madrid were acutely aware when sanctioning his departure in 2022, is no longer capable of this level of physicality in 2025.

Old Trafford executives are open to the Brazilian’s departure, though his costly wage packet – believed to be in excess of £300,000 a week – has meant limited interest in the former Real Madrid man, outside of the Saudi Pro League.

However, Roma have joined Saudi clubs in the queue for the Brazilian with the Serie A side “doing due diligence in the event that they need to find a replacement for Leandro Paredes.”

Tweet: “Roma have asked for information about Manchester United’s Casemiro, according to Sky in Italy. They are doing due diligence in the event that they need to find a replacement for Leandro Paredes.”

The slower pace of the Italian league, in comparison to the break neck speed of English football, would lend itself more readily to Casemiro at this stage of his career.

Roma also play a three-man defensive structure but with five in midfield, and three in central areas. This means Paredes is often deployed as the defensive midfielder in a three-man unit – the type of system Casemiro thrived in at Madrid.

This structure would allow willing runners, such as Manu Kone and Niccolo Pisilli, to play either side of the 32-year-old Brazilian; rather than Casemiro himself being forced do the hard yards, as he has under Amorim and, previously, Erik ten Hag.

Roma’s top earner is Argentine forward Paulo Dybala, who reportedly takes home a £210,000-a-week wage packet. This is still largely dwarfed by Casemiro’s salary at Old Trafford, but perhaps the Brazilian would be willing to compromise on his wages to play regular football at one of Italy’s biggest clubs.

Or, conversely, Roma may look to strike a deal with United to take Casemiro on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Red Devils funding some of the 32-year-old’s wages, while the Serie A side pay the rest.

This would still equate to a considerable saving for United at a time when the club’s finances are under intense pressure due concerns over Profits and Sustainability Rules (PSR). Particularly for a player who is evidently not in his manager’s first-team plans moving forward.

Fabrizio Romano states Manchester United are set to sign 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal, after an inside source at the Red Devils’ academy revealed a “full agreement” had been reached earlier this morning.

Academy Scoop contended United have won the race to sign the defensive starlet by “beating Barcelona and Eintracht Frankurt” to his signature earlier this morning.

Romano then corroborated this academy source’s update, giving Heaven’s move to Old Trafford his trademark ‘Here We Go’ seal of approval and revealing the 18-year-old had “rejected a new deal” at the Emirates.

“Medical booked after he rejected new deal from Arsenal and Eintracht approaches. Agreement being formally sealed.”

Interestingly, Academy Scoop contends Heaven has been targeted as  “first-team signing” with a view towards providing “competition [and] cover” to Lisandro Martinez.

Heaven is a left-footed central defender which may explain why United have pursued the Arsenal academy graduate, as Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system is reliant upon centre-backs comfortable stepping up into their respective channels.

Martinez is the only left-footed centre-back in the squad, though Luke Shaw can also thrive in this position if fit – with a big question mark on if there. This means there is a gap in the squad for a left-footed ball-playing defender like Heaven to immediately slot into.

Heaven would represent the second youngster to swap the Emirates for Old Trafford this season after Chido Obi-Martin’s move in the same direction last summer, with the 17-year-old striker thriving in the United academy since the switch.

Increasingly, United are re-emerging at the fore front of youth football as one of the best possible set-ups to join for youngsters hoping to realise their potential at first-team level. Heaven’s choice to join the Theatre of Dreams is further evidence of this.

Fabrizio Romano: United “clear favourites” for sensational teenage centre-back, fee agreement close

Top journalists are in agreement that Manchester United are “close” to signing Arsenal starlet Ayden Heaven, and are “clear favourites” for the player’s signature.

All signs point to the Red Devils poaching another promising talent from north London, after snatching free-scoring teenage striker Chido Obi last year.

Operating at the other end of the pitch, 18-year-old centre-back Heaven is described by TBR Football as “one of the most talented players in the Gunners academy”.

But it seems increasingly likely that Mikel Arteta is set to lose out on the player who was handed his senior debut in the Carabao Cup earlier this season.

Laurie Whitwell, of The Athletic, tweeted this morning that United are “close to agreeing a fee with Arsenal for Ayden Heaven, the 18-year-old defender who attended Old Trafford for the Rangers game.”

His presence at last week’s Europa League clash was revealed the following day by Fabrizio Romano, who first broke the story of United’s interest in Heaven earlier this month.

Romano noted that Heaven had also been spotted at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park, with the German club a key player in the race for his signature.

It is also thought that Barcelona hold an interest in the youngster, but a tweet from Romano this morning indicates that United are set to come out on top.

Romano said: “Manchester United, advancing on deal to sign Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. They’re clear favourites as exclusively revealed.”

United are yet to complete a signing this month, although seem to be edging closer to a deal for Lecce left-back Patrick Dorgu.

Should a deal be sealed this month for Heaven, it’s unlikely he would make an instant first-team impact, although such is his promise he may enter the mix to put pressure on United’s more established centre-backs.

After all, he is not much younger than Leny Yoro, who has started to feature more and more alongside senior options like Harry Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

“Done deal”: Man United strike sensational €40m “agreement” for Patrick Dorgu – report

Manchester United have reportedly “reached an agreement” with Lecce to sign 20-year-old wing-back Patrick Dorgu with “immediate” effect, according to a report from Italy.

Solo Lecce, an Italian outlet, reveals the Red Devils have struck a deal with the Serie A side to sign Dorgu in a deal worth an initial €35 million, with a further €5 million in potential add-ons.

The report states these €5 million in add-ons will be contingent on United achieving Champions League qualification in the next two years and the number of appearances Dorgu makes for his new club.

From the outset of negotiations between the two teams, Lecce were thought to be adamant they would only accept a proposal for the Danish international worth around €40 million.

Old Trafford officials saw two separate proposals rejected which fell short of this valuation. However, there was optimism that a deal would still be struck with United reported to be “confident” of an agreement imminently.

Now, it appears, a compromise which suits both parties has been reached. And while Solo Lecce are far from leading experts in football transfers, the outlet was the first to report the initial meeting between United and Lecce over Dorgu’s potential transfer.

United have been desperate to add a new left wing-back to Ruben Amorim’s squad this month with the 39-year-old coach struggling to implement his trademark 3-4-3 system without one.

Neither Luke Shaw nor Tyrell Malacia have proved capable of offering Amorim the skillset he needs from a wing-back, forcing him to deploy Diogo Dalot out of position on the left.

The 25-year-old defender – a right-footed right-back – has, naturally, struggled in this unfamiliar berth, and the team’s attacking thrust and width has suffered as a result.

Dorgu is a left-footed wing-back who has also regularly featured for Lecce on the right-wing this season. This positional versatility will be attractive to Amorim, who often prefers deploying wing-backs on their ‘opposite’ foot, as he has done with Amad this season.

Dorgu is also a physical monster, standing 6’2 with excellent strength and speed attributes – two areas which are severely deficient in the current United squad.

As such, it’s clear why United’s head coach has been pushing for this signing after personally approving Dorgu as a target. And, if we trust the report coming out of Italy today, Amorim is set to welcome his first new signing to Old Trafford imminently.

Man Utd transfer: Chelsea star Nkunku rejects ‘straight loan’ as Romano gives ‘here we go’ to Red Devils deal

Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku does not currently want to join Man Utd on a “straight loan” deal, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils have been linked with a loan move for the France international and a potential swap deal for Alejandro Garnacho has also been mooted.

Speaking over the weekend, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg claimed there had been ‘concrete ideas’ about a potential Man Utd swap deal involving Garnacho and Chelsea star Nkunku.

Plettenberg wrote on X: ‘As exclusively reported yesterday, there have been initial concrete ideas in recent days among all parties involved about a potential swap between Alejandro #Garnacho and Christopher #Nkunku. Nothing is advanced yet, but the topic has been explored. Both clubs are now in direct contact, and both players are open to a move. #MUFC #CFC Nkunku also has an agreement with Bayern.’

But transfer expert Romano insists a “straight loan” without an obligation to buy at the end of the season would not appeal to Chelsea star Nkunku, who has scored 13 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season.

Romano said on his YouTube channel: “Many questions today about the situation of Christopher Nkunku. For Nkunku, at the moment there are two opportunities, one is Bayern Munich, Nkunku will be open to going to Bayern, but the only way for Bayern is to include a player in the deal.

“Chelsea wanted Mathys Tel but at the moment there is no green light from Mathys Tel to leave Bayern, let’s see if they can change his mind. There is still a possibility for Mathys Tel to leave but he has Chelsea, and many clubs that want to sign him on loan.

“So the situation could be open in the next days but at the moment still no breakthrough in talks between Mathys Tel and Bayern about what he wants to do.

“And the other option for Christopher Nkunku is Manchester United, something discussed at the beginning of the market. But my understanding is that Christopher Nkunku is not that open, at the moment, to a straight loan.

“So when you see reports on Nkunku going on loan to Man Utd, if it’s a loan with obligation, a permanent transfer, Christopher Nkunku could be open. If it’s a straight loan or not guaranteed obligation then at this moment in time not sure this deal could happen.

“So let’s see what happens with Nkunku, Garnacho and for sure Man Utd and Chelsea will be in touch this week to discuss opportunities. But the Nkunku situation is not that easy in terms of formula, so they need to clarify that.”

According to reports, Manchester United could miss out on Lecce starlet Patrick Dorgu as a ‘lurking’ European giant is moving ‘under the radar’.

The Red Devils are yet to make a January signing, but they are looking to make one or two additions before the transfer window closes at the start of next week.

Ruben Amorim‘s side are trying to sign a new left wing-back as they lack a natural fit for this position with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui filling in until a new player is secured.

Man Utd have been linked with several potential options but Lecce youngster Dorgu has emerged as their leading target.

The 20-year-old is enjoying a breakout season for Lecce as he’s got four goal involvements in his 21 Serie A appearances this season.

Lecce are understood to be holding out for around 40 million euros, while Man Utd’s latest offer was worth around 30 million euros.

On Monday night, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Man Utd are “confident” of reaching an agreement with Lecce imminently.

He said: “Manchester United feel they can get Patrick Dorgu deal agreed in 24/48h!

“Confident and optimistic after further talks with new official bid coming soon.”

However, a report in Italy claims Man Utd could be hijacked as Serie A giants Juventus are moving ‘under the radar’ as they ‘lurk’ in the background.

It is also noted that they ‘could forcefully enter the scene with a change of strategy’ in the coming days.

A couple of alternatives have been linked with the Red Devils and former left-back Alvaro Carreras – who has been making waves at Benfica – is a potential option.

Carreras has emerged as one of the standout left-backs in Europe and The Athletic are reporting that Man Utd are considering ‘activating their buyback clause’ to re-sign him.

‘Manchester United are weighing up whether to trigger their buyback clause for Alvaro Fernandez Carreras.

‘The former United defender is enjoying an excellent campaign at Benfica. While they are prioritising a move for Patrick Dorgu of Lecce in their left-back hunt, United are considering bringing the 21-year-old back to Old Trafford if negotiations with the Italians stall.

‘The required figure is believed to stand at €18million (£15.1m; $18.9m), with some small add-ons.

‘Sources close to Carreras currently say they are not considering a move in this market. Carreras spent four seasons at United before being allowed to leave permanently last summer for €6m in a deal struck in the previous winter window.’

Sources close to Alvaro Carreras reveal the 21-year-old fullback is not “considering a move” away from Benfica in the January transfer window, despite reports linking the Spaniard with a return to Old Trafford.

Manchester United are currently on the hunt for a new left wing-back to improve the team’s ability to adapt to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes, who played under Amorim at Sporting CP, had emerged as an early front runner for the position. However, the Portuguese international looks set to sign a new deal in the French capital with United executives deeming a move too expensive.

The club quickly settled on Patrick Dorgu as an alternative – Lecce’s 20-year-old left wing-back, who has also regularly played as a right-winger this season.

Lecce’s price tag to let the defensive starlet depart in January was set at around the €40 millon mark, though officials at Old Trafford were optimistic a compromise could be struck before the February 3 deadline.

United have seen two proposals rejected by their Italian counterparts. However, the club are “confident” a new approach will prove successful in the “next 24-48 hours” with reports suggesting a deal in the region of €37 million may be be sufficient.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, Dorgu has already agreed personal terms with United and is very keen on the move to Old Trafford.

Amorim is also reported to have approved a move for the Danish international with Dorgu’s potent pairing of physicality and pace likely to be a welcome boost for the Portuguese coach.

However, a deal is not yet agreed, even if it feels close. As such, United have been considering other options in the event a compromise can not be reached with Lecce; with a return for Carreras one such option.

The club have dispatched scouts to watch the 21-year-old left-back this season with The Athletic describing Carreras as “enjoying an excellent campaign” for Benfica.

United have “made contact” with Carreras’ camp over signing the Spaniard this month with the club “weighing up triggering their buyback clause”, included in the deal which saw the defender join Benfica for €6 million last year.

Carreras spent four years at Old Trafford, having joined from Real Madrid’s youth system in 2020. He spent back-to-back seasons on loan at Preston North End, Granada and Benfica, with the Portuguese side choosing to make the move permanent in the 2024 summer window.

United’s buy-back clause means there will no protracted negotiations with Benfica to agree a deal in the way there has been with Lecce. However, while Dorgu is eminently keen to swap Italy for England, Carreras’ is not believed to be interested in a return to the Premier League this month.

The Athletic contend, “Sources close to Carreras currently say they are not considering a move in this market”, though this does leave open the possibility of a switch in the summer.

United are hellbent on making Dorgu their new left wing-back this month; which is good because their first-choice back-up to the Danish international appears content remaining where is. For now.

Manchester United are confident they can conclude a deal for Patrick Dorgu in the next 24-48 hours.

The Red Devils have badly missed a left wing-back who can adapt to Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and have spent most of the January window searching for one.

United have seemingly decided that Dorgu is the man for the job and have had two bids turned down already for the player.

The Dane is keen on the move and his family are reportedly in Lecce, pushing for a move to Manchester to happen.

The 20 time league winners are not the only team in pursuit of the Danish international as SSC Napoli and Juventus are also said to be keen on signing the defender.

Fabrizio Romano has provided United fans with some good news however as he posted on X overnight that United “feel they can get Patrick Dorgu deal agreed in 24/48 hours.”

After talks yesterday, the Red Devils are now believed to be “confident and optimistic” with a “new official bid coming soon.”

What’s more, Relevo journalist Matteo Moretto has also confirmed that United are keen to get the deal done and has provided further information on the details of the bid.

“The offer could approach €40 million in total with the inclusion of various bonuses.”

Lecce have already said no to €34 million in recent days.

Dorgu has scored three goals this season from wing-back and provided one assist for the Serie A team.

There is no doubt that the Dane would add significantly more attacking threat down United’s left hand side than Diogo Dalot or Noussair Mazraoui are currently managing.
