Manchester United Women goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has received her maiden call-up to the USA senior women’s team.

Tullis-Joyce has enjoyed a brilliant start to the season, with United still unbeaten.

The shot-stopper has kept an impressive five clean sheets in seven WSL appearances. She has also produced a number of very crucial saves that have kept United in games.

Only former Reds Nikita Parris and Alessia Russo have managed to beat Tullis-Joyce this season.

Ahead of the international break, Tullis-Joyce has been included in the USA team for the very first time by Emma Hayes. USA are currently the n.o1 ranked women’s side in the world by FIFA.

The United goalkeeper will be in contention to play in the country’s matches vs. England and the Netherlands on 30 November and 3 December respectively.

Reacting to the honour, Tullis-Joyce said [via United’s website], “I’m incredibly grateful for my family, my friends and the people here at Manchester United who have been nothing but welcoming to me. All the work I’ve put in with Wilko [Ian Willcock] and Saf [Safia Middleton-Patel] this year, I’m just super, super grateful for this opportunity, this is amazing.”

“I found out via email and then I double-checked with Wilko if it was real. He said yeah, and it was a cute moment. I waited for social media for my mom to find out, so I can’t wait to see her reaction.”

On Tullis-Joyce’s selection, Hayes remarked [via Forbes], “Once she comes in, I can see her on the grass. You talk with your coaches. What’s her decision-making like in and out of possession? What’s her execution like? How do her feet move? How commanding is she behind the line? How switched on is she from set-pieces?”

“There’s so many facets to goalkeeping that’s more than just the shot-stopping. Her shot-stopping and her ability to cover the frame is second-to-none. But in terms of building up with the team, connecting with the team – I think there’s room for improvement. I want to see what she looks like with the demands we place on her.”

“It’s not an easy team to come into, there’s a lot of unbelievable experience that’s there but I want to see those things. I want to see where she is with her development but I think she’s had a good start to her career with Manchester United. I know the demands that will be placed upon her I the Women’s Super League, I think it’s good experience for her.”

Hayes added that she wanted more goalkeeping options and Tullis-Joyce was an obvious pick, especially considering she plies her trade in England and is familiar with the type of football they play.

Tullis-Joyce and her teammates are back in action on Wednesday wnen they meet Everton in the Women’s League Cup.

Rival PL club “have submitted an offer” for United prodigy Harry Amass – report

      rival-pl-club-“have-submitted-an-offer”-for-united-prodigy-harry-amass-–-report

Manchester United’s Premier League rivals Aston Villa have reportedly lodged a bid for academy star Harry Amass.

A few days ago, it emerged that Villa were keen on a shock swoop for Amass, who has yet to make his senior debut for United.

It was subsequently claimed that the Red Devils would snub any overtures from Villa for the highly-rated Amass, who has been tipped for a big future at Old Trafford.

United have no interest in parting ways with Amass, especially after the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim, who favours a 3-4-3 system.

In this football style, there is a real chance for Amass to break into the team in a left-wing-back role.

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Amass has “sparked the interest” of Unai Emery’s side, who have “submitted an offer” to secure his services.

“Under the direction of Unai Emery, they [Villa] are looking to consolidate a team that not only competes in the present but also ensures a promising future. For this young promise [Amass], a change of scenery could represent a unique opportunity for growth and greater prominence.”

“Aston Villa will have to act quickly and decisively as the competition for the young Englishman is tough. Unai Emery’s side are reportedly willing to pay 15 million for the 17-year-old.”

Fichajes explain that United will “offer an attractive development” plan in an effort to convince Amass to snub interest from Villa in favour of staying put.

Amass joined United from Watford last year and has made 17 appearances for the U18s. He also played nine times for the U23s in Premier League 2.

The teenager was included in the United squad for the club’s pre-season tour in the United States. The defender has been on the bench for two of United’s last three top-flight fixtures.

The youngster’s contract runs until June 2027.

Ruben Amorim promotes Man Utd academy giant to first-team as ex-Arsenal teen ‘fast-tracked’

        ruben-amorim-promotes-man-utd-academy-giant-to-first-team-as-ex-arsenal-teen-‘fast-tracked’

Ruben Amorim promoted 16-year-old Goodwill Kukonki to first-team training in his first session as Manchester United manager, while a report suggests a fellow academy star is ‘expected to be fast-tracked’ under the Portuguese boss.

Amorim was announced as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor at Old Trafford on November 1 but remained in charge of Sporting ahead of the international break and will be in the dugout for his first Red Devils game against Ipswich on Sunday.

Monday was Amorim’s first opportunity to see some of the players he will be working with, while others will return to training over the next week as they return from international duty.

Speculation is rife as to which United players will be boosted by Amorim’s arrival and the likely switch to a 3-4-3 formation, but Kukonki wasn’t one of those talked about as even a potential beneficiary.

The teenage centre-back, who towers over the rest of the squad at 6ft 5ins tall, has been tipped for a bright future at United and was welcomed to first-team training for the first time by Amorim.

The left-footed defender is a regular starter of the Under-18s team, and while it’s not clear whether he will remain with the group when the rest of the senior squad returns, it’s a move that adds weight to the view that Amorim will look to bring young players through from the academy, as he did with great success at Sporting.

And a GIVEMESPORT report claims ‘Amorim is expected to fast-track the development of Chido Obi-Martin after being given rave reviews of the 16-year-old striker by Manchester United youth coaches’.

United poached Obi-Martin from Arsenal in the summer after he scored 32 goals in just 18 Under-18 games for the Gunners, and he’s managed four in four since the move to the United academy.

        The report adds:

‘Technical director Jason Wilcox, academy head Nick Cox and coach Darren Fletcher are all believed to have spoken with Amorim about Obi-Martin.

‘And they plan to integrate the teenager into some Under-21 games as well as some first-team training sessions to prepare him for the senior team.’

The drive to improve the pathway for academy players into the first team may well be driven by a lack of funds for transfers.

A Daily Telegraph report claims that Amorim will ‘operate on a more modest budget’ than Ten Hag as the Portuguese coach will be tasked with ‘maximising the untapped potential in the squad as the club aim to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls’.

        The report states:

‘The new United hierarchy have no plans under Amorim to rip up a squad they feel is capable of delivering far more and are determined to move away from a culture of persistent upheaval they believe to be financially unsustainable and destructive to coherent squad building.

‘Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund and England midfielder Mason Mount are cited as just two examples of players United are hoping can thrive in a new environment under the charismatic Portuguese, who will take charge of his first game as the club’s new head coach away to Ipswich Town on Sunday.

United “ready to test” Championship club’s “resolve” in January for sensational 17-yo gem – report

          united-“ready-to-test”-championship-club’s-“resolve”-in-january-for-sensational-17-yo-gem-–-report

Sunderland are reportedly prepared to rebuff any January overtures from Manchester United for their highly-rated gem Chris Rigg.

United retain a long-standing interest in Rigg, who is believed to perfectly fit the profile of the type of signings INEOS want to make at the club – young, talented and hungry players who can be nurtured to potentially become superstars.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that the Red Devils are determined to sign Rigg, who is also on the radar of other top outfits like Liverpool, Chelsea, Crystal Palace and Real Madrid.

It was subsequently claimed that United would have to part with nothing short of €30 million to successfully pry Rigg from Sunderland’s hands.

The Northern Echo have given an update and indicated that the Black Cats are “aware” of United’s “growing interest” in the talented teenager but will “resist all approaches” for him during the winter transfer window.

It’s understood that Sunderland are confident Rigg’s head will not be turned by the prospect of plying his trade in the Premier League.

Scott Wilson explains that before Rigg put pen to paper on his first professional deal in the summer, his representatives knew United are admirers of his. However, they felt that his development would be better aided by playing regular first-team football in England’s second tier.

The Northern Echo add, “A January approach from Manchester United is regarded as likely though, with the new regime in charge of the Red Devils hoping to make changes at the turn of the year to assist new boss Ruben Amorim as he seeks to transform the club’s fortunes.”

“New Manchester United owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is keen to make changes in January, and has instructed the club’s sporting director, Dan Ashworth, to start formalising plans for the transfer window.”

“Sources claim the Manchester United hierarchy regard Rigg as the most appealing young domestic talent that could potentially be available, and are ready to test Sunderland’s resolve to hold on to their academy product.”

So far this term, Rigg has made 15 appearances across the Championship and EFL Cup, registering three goals in that period.

Sunderland are flying under the management of Regis Le Bris, who currently has them at the top of the table 15 games in.

They’ve not lost since late September when they were beaten by Watford.

Amorim takes bold call in his first session as United’s very own Josko Gvardiol trains with senior stars – report

            amorim-takes-bold-call-in-his-first-session-as-united’s-very-own-josko-gvardiol-trains-with-senior-stars-–-report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim drafted Godwill Kukonki into first-team training, as per reports.

The former Benfica midfielder cemented his place as a Sporting CP legend by ending the Lions’ long wait for a league trophy in 2021.

Apart from his tactical astuteness and charismatic personality, the focus on building his side around young players made Amorim an instant favourite in Lisbon and also made him one of the most sought-after coaches in Europe.

Accordingly, Amorim’s arrival at Carrington has intensified the excitement among the United faithful about the club’s famed academy.

Both Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo enjoyed their breakthroughs into the first team under Erik ten Hag, but considering the abundance of highly-rated young stars at the club, many expected the Dutchman to take more of an interest in the academy.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report suggesting Bendito Mantato, 16, could be promoted to first-team by the club’s new head coach.

Now, according to the Manchester Evening News, another academy prospect has caught the attention of Amorim. The Portuguese tactician took his first training session as United head coach on Monday, and reportedly handed Kukonki his first training experience with the senior side at Carrington.

The 16-year-old central defender has raised plenty of eyebrows with his performances for the Under-18s, having made eight appearances in the U18 Premier League. He also has one start and an assist to his name in the UEFA Youth League.

Accordingly, he was “given the opportunity to step up to senior training for the first time.”

The 6ft 5ins talent, who is also capable of playing at left-back, has earned comparisons to Manchester City’s Josko Gvardiol, as he possesses impeccable technical ability and is a left-footed defender.

While being part of Amorim’s first session represents “a huge milestone” for Kukonki, it wouldn’t surprise many if he soon becomes a regular fixture, as left-footed defenders are highly coveted. Currently, Lisandro Martinez is the only natural left-footed centre-back at Old Trafford.

Moreover, Amorim, who deploys three central defenders due to his unshakable belief in the 3-4-3 formation, has set his sights on another young centre-back. It is understood the 39-year-old is looking forward to working with Leny Yoro, whom he considers a “generational talent”.

Rasmus Hojlund faces Man Utd axe in January: Five PL stars who need to buck their ideas up

              rasmus-hojlund-faces-man-utd-axe-in-january:-five-pl-stars-who-need-to-buck-their-ideas-up

Not all that long now until the January transfer window and we reckon these five players face losing their spots to new recruits if they don’t buck their ideas up over the winter to prove themselves worthy to their managers.

              Kostas Tsimikas (Liverpool)
The Greece international has somehow now been at Liverpool for over four seasons, making 97 appearances as understudy to Andy ‘the pr*ck’ Robertson. Just at the point where Tsimikas might have thought the long game had paid off as the balance of left-back power shifts in his favour, Liverpool are now being heavily linked with a move for Fulham’s Antonee Robinson in January, with Tsimikas forever the bridesmaid at Anfield.

There’s no doubt Arne Slot will want to sign a new left-back in the not-too-distant future, and Robinson for Robertson makes a lot of sense. What’s not clear is whether Slot and his recruitment team will deem it necessary to make that move in January as they push for the title.

Tsimikas has been a perfectly acceptable if unglamorous presence on the left, and while anyone would compare unfavourably with Trent Alexander-Arnold on the opposite side, the 28-year-old may have to prove he can be more than a Never Let Them Down footballer to keep the Reds from eyeing his position as one where significant gains can be made in January through dipping into the transfer market.

              Rasmus Hojlund (Manchester United)
Two goals in 15 appearances this season for club and country – even considering the caveats granted for his age, inexperience and other contributions to his teams – is a p*ss-poor record for a £64m striker; the sort of return that serves to increase both the quantity and reach of stories linking Viktor Gyokeres or other high-level strikers to Old Trafford.

Manchester United scoring 12 goals in 11 games is wholly unacceptable and it’s less chance creation than converting those chances that’s the issue Ruben Amorim will be looking to remedy as one of his top priorities.

Reports suggesting he will look to use Marcus Rashford as his central striker hint at a lack of confidence in Hojlund, with Amorim apparently preferring something of a square peg in a round hole to someone who has all the attributes to be United’s version of Gyokeres.

              Robert Sanchez (Chelsea)
It’s incredible that of Chelsea’s eight goalkeepers, Robert Sanchez is considered the best. The coaching staff aren’t necessarily wrong to think so either. It’s not like we’re looking at any of Djordje Petrovic, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Marcus Bettinelli, Lucas Bergstrom, Eddie Beach, Mike Penders or Filip Jorgensen and thinking they’re much better equipped to be the goalkeeper of a side chasing Champions League football.

Enzo Maresca is apparently convinced Sanchez will grow into the role and has great trust in his ability with the ball at his feet. We’re not quite sure why as it feels as though Sanchez passes the ball to an opposition player at least once a game, and for every clipped pass to one of his full-backs – which, in fairness, he is pretty good at – there’s a foolhardy attempt to force an eye-of-the-needle pass into a midfielder.

It always feels as though if any Chelsea player is going to screw up, it’s Sanchez, who wouldn’t come close to usurping the goalkeeper at any of the other Big Six clubs and therefore probably shouldn’t be Chelsea’s No.1.

              Thomas Partey (Arsenal)
We really thought Arsenal would have moved on from Thomas Partey by now. He’s been fine this season, good even, but it’s hard to watch what have been a number of laboured displays from Mikel Arteta’s side and not think they could really do with a more technically gifted and progressive player at the base of their midfield.

Mikel Merino may move into that deeper role as a result of Martin Odegaard’s return, but as is the case with Declan Rice, playing him there would limit the Spain international to the extent where the Gunners wouldn’t be reaping the rewards of his quality on the front foot.

Martin Zubimendi looks a good option for Arsenal in January, as a player similar to Jorginho who can control the pace of the game and sweep up in front of the defence. But that does make you wonder why Edu and Arteta went after Merino over his better-suited midfield partner at Real Sociedad in the first place.

              Leon Bailey (Aston Villa)
Both Villa and Bailey need a bit of a kick up the backside. It’s all gone a bit stale for the winger and the team as a whole of late, and with no goals and just three assists in 15 appearances this season from the Jamaican – who often looks as though he takes no joy whatsoever in playing for Villa – Unai Emery and Monchi may well decide the boost Villa require to push on in the Champions League and remain in the mix for the top four in the Premier League isn’t going to come from the winger.

Morgan Rogers has been excellent and in Ollie Watkins and Jhon Duran there’s no shortage of options in the middle, but amid Bailey’s poor form it feels as though Villa are light across that front line and something of an exciting, marquee addition in January wouldn’t go amiss.

Pictures: Amorim takes charge of his first training session as Man United boss

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim took charge of his first training session at the club on Monday.

Amorim arrived at the club last week, to officially assume his new role as United boss following the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

A day later, the Portuguese coach was spotted meeting a number of his players who were undergoing rehabilitation including Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Leny Yoro and Toby Collyer,

He was given a tour of Old Trafford on Thursday before holding his first sit-down with the club’s in-house TV channel, MUTV.

In his inaugural address, Amorim promised supporters that he would implement a style of play and a clear identity, which would be visible from day one.

United recently confirmed Amorim’s backroom staff, most of whom received their work permits.

Carlos Fernandes, Jorge Vital, Adelio Candido, Emanuel Ferro and Paulo Barreira will form part of Amorim’s backroom staff at Old Trafford. All five coaches made the move from Sporting to United with Amorim.

Ahead of his first match as the Red Devils head coach on Sunday against Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town, Amorim was pictured holding a training session at Carrington on Monday.

In the images, he is seen guiding the players, such as Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton.

“It was a shame”: United star hopeful of starting in Amorim’s first game devastated after injury blow

                  “it-was-a-shame”:-united-star-hopeful-of-starting-in-amorim’s-first-game-devastated-after-injury-blow

Defenders are falling like ninepins ahead of Ruben Amorim’s first game as Manchester United’s new head coach, and it will be quite the challenge to select three defenders for the Ipswich Town game.

Lisandro Martinez picked up a back injury during international duty and has returned early to conduct tests to understand the severity of the issue.

Harry Maguire remains sidelined while Leny Yoro is inching closer to a comeback but whether the former Sporting Lisbon boss will throw him into the deep end from the start against the Tractor Boys remains to be seen.

Victor Lindelof, who recently returned from injury, was hopeful of earning more minutes under his former Benfica teammate but the Swede’s bad luck with injuries continued while playing for his country.

                  Lindelof injury

Since his return, the Sweden captain has had to play at full-back and even in defensive midfield other than at centre-back. And given Amorim’s penchant for playing three at the back, he must have been hopeful of starting on Sunday.

He got subbed off in the first half after what seemed to be a hamstring issue and as per his Sweden teammate Emil Holm, the centre-back was distraught inside the dressing room.

“It’s very sad. He just come back from injury and then to get another injury, you suffer with that. It was tough to see,” he said, as quoted by Göteborgs-Posten.

“He was very down in the dressing room too. He’s an important man in the team, he’s captain anyway. No, it was a shame.”

                  Poor luck with injuries

Lindelof had missed over 40 days of action due to a toe injury he had picked up during pre-season while last season, the 30-year-old missed over 20 games.

He was clearly looking forward to playing regularly and trying to earn either a contract extension or a lucrative move elsewhere. But the injury might mean another extended period on the sidelines.

His indifferent displays on the pitch and his poor injury record meant the Red Devils tried to offload him in the summer but the player’s wage demands scuppered any chance of an exit.

Juventus and AC Milan are two of the teams eyeing Lindelof with the Swede having the option of agreeing a pre-contract agreement as early as January.

Amorim “expected to fast-track” insanely talented United academy star, fans will be buzzing – report

                    amorim-“expected-to-fast-track”-insanely-talented-united-academy-star,-fans-will-be-buzzing-–-report

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is reportedly poised to fast-track the development of brilliant academy starlet Chido Obi-Martin.

Amorim arrived at United last week to officially take over as club boss following Erik ten Hag’s sacking last month.

In his first sit-down with United media, Amorim spoke about the youth and promised that they will be given a chance to shine under him.

In fact, Amorim suggested that he may look to immediately thrust some of them into the action if they’re ready, as opposed to slowly easing them into his senior set-up.

At the moment, very few United academy players if any, are grabbing headlines as much as Obi-Martin.

United signed the 16-year-old in the summer from Premier League rivals Arsenal. He scored a mind-boggling 32 goals in just 18 games with the Gunners U18s before departing for Old Trafford.

It’s believed that the Red Devils warded off significant competition both from England and abroad to land Obi-Martin.

He has already plundered four goals in four matches for United, including a sensational hat-trick against Nottingham Forest in his debut start for the club.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Amorim has a plan in place for Obi-Martin after holding talks with three club chiefs.

“Ruben Amorim is expected to fast-track the development of Chido Obi-Martin after being given rave reviews of the 16-year-old striker by Manchester United youth coaches.”

“Technical director Jason Wilcox, academy head Nick Cox and coach Darren Fletcher are all believed to have spoken with Amorim about Obi-Martin.”

“And they plan to integrate the teenager into some Under-21 games as well as some first-team training sessions to prepare him for the senior team.”

Obi-Martin was recently called up to Denmark’s U18s group and found the back of the net in a 2-1 loss against Finland on Friday.

Man Utd ‘submit £84m offer’ for ex-Everton star as Serie A side ‘look favourably on sale’

Man Utd and Paris Saint-Germain have made huge offers to sign Ademola Lookman from Serie A side Atalanta, according to reports.

The Red Devils made five signings in the summer transfer window as they looked to give Erik ten Hag their full support after deciding to keep him on over the summer.

Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte, Matthijs de Ligt, Leny Yoro and Noussair Mazraoui all joined before the end of the summer market but they have yet to have the impact the Man Utd hierarchy and fans were hoping.

Ten Hag was sacked after winning just three of the Red Devils’ opening nine Premier League matches with Ruben Amorim replacing him a week ago.

Man Utd are currently 13th in the Premier League table after interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy added another four points to their Premier League total before leaving the club earlier this week.

Amorim will play a different formation to Ten Hag at Man Utd and there are concerns that he won’t have the players required to play that system straight away.

That could see the Red Devils enter the transfer market to try and give Amorim the tools to get Man Utd challenging for Premier League titles in the long term but up the table in the short term.

There have been reports that the Premier League club are interested in Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane but now there are claims in Spain that they have launched a bid for Atalanta’s Lookman.

It is understood that both Man Utd and PSG ‘have submitted offers close to 100 million euros (£84m) for the Nigerian winger, who has become one of the sensations of Serie A with Atalanta’.

Lookman ‘would fit perfectly into the plans’ of new boss Amorim with his ‘versatility and ability to create danger in the opposition’s box make him a highly desirable addition’.

In a boost to Man Utd and PSG, Atalanta are ‘looking favourably on the sale’ with the Serie A side proving historically ‘to be adept at handling the departure of key players’.

Amorim will certainly need help in the transfer market, unless some of his current players turn their form around and former Man City defender Richard Dunne reckons Man Utd have been the flops of the season so far.

Dunne told Gambling Zone: “It’s hard to pick on any one player as someone that has disappointed this season.

“If you’re looking at a team, it’s difficult to look beyond Man United. They have underperformed for what their expectations are at the club.

“They gave Erik Ten Hag a new contract and expected bigger and brighter things, but there didn’t seem to be that investment from the players in to what he was trying to do. They didn’t seem to buy in the fact that Ten Hag was staying.

“What he wanted to do didn’t inspire any of their players, so I think a few of them have come out and said they’re disappointed with what they’ve done in the first period of the season and disappointed that it led to the sacking of Ten Hag.

“Between now and the end of the season they’ve got a new manager. They’ve got 25 games + to go and prove themselves. A lot of these players will be fighting for their Man United future.

“For Man United to be successful, they need their best players trying regardless of who the manager is.  They’ve got a lot to prove over the next seven, eight months.”
