Kobbie Mainoo takes part in Amorim’s first training session in welcome boost for new United boss – report

    kobbie-mainoo-takes-part-in-amorim’s-first-training-session-in-welcome-boost-for-new-united-boss-–-report

Manchester United have sorely missed midfield magician Kobbie Mainoo with the England international missing the last eight games through injury.

A lot has happened in the interim, with Erik ten Hag sacked while Ruud van Nistelrooy also left despite an impressive interim tenure.

Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte have emerged as the go-to midfield partnership but new head coach Ruben Amorim is expected to adopt a whole-new approach and he wants players with intensity.

Both the Brazilian and Christian Eriksen do not have the legs anymore to play in Amorim’s system and Mainoo’s return is highly-anticipated.

    Mainoo back in training

Van Nistelrooy, during his temporary stint, had mentioned that the 19-year-old was close to a return and the latest training update from The Manchester Evening News revealed that he is back in training.

The United academy graduate was a part of the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss’ first training session on Monday and hopefully, he can at least be a part of the matchday squad for the weekend game against Ipswich Town.

“Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo has taken part in Ruben Amorim’s first training session on Monday,” the publication revealed.

The Portuguese tactician was seen chatting with the United academy graduate on his first visit to Carrington with the midfielder doing his rehab work.

United need to be careful with his game time

Mainoo’s last appearance came in the Premier League game against Aston Villa back on October 6. And United should be careful handling his gametime.

Ten Hag hardly rotated the squad and the England international was heavily used last term and sometimes it looked like he was close to burnout.

In fact, the Stockport-born star has started every Premier League game for the club until his October injury. Add to this his England exploits and it is clear to see that the youngster needs to be utilised a lot better.

Hopefully, the Red Devils will learn from their mistakes and Amorim will handle him with more care moving forwards.

Arsenal swoop ‘expected’ with Man Utd ‘replacement’ identified as Euro giants ‘open’ exit door

      arsenal-swoop-‘expected’-with-man-utd-‘replacement’-identified-as-euro-giants-‘open’-exit-door

According to reports, Arsenal are ‘expected’ to hold fresh ‘talks’ with Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic over a potential January move.

The Gunners moved to sign the 24-year-old during the 2022 January transfer window after he scored 41 goals in around 64 appearances in roughly 18 months for Serie A side Fiorentina.

Arsenal initially looked likely to land the Serbia international, but Juventus beat them in the race to sign him for around £58m.

In previous seasons, Vlahovic has been somewhat underwhelming. However, he’s been superb at the start of this campaign as he’s scored nine goals in his 16 appearances.

Vlahovic’s long-term future is in doubt as his current Juventus contract is due to expire in 2026 and it remains to be seen whether he will pen a new deal.

Arsenal were expected to sign a new striker in the summer but they did not bring anyone in after they failed to land RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

Germany international Kai Havertz has proven to be a great signing for Arsenal as he’s developed into a No.9 under head coach Mikel Arteta, but they still need to sign another striker.

On Sunday, Italian journalist Rudy Galetti revealed Arsenal are “still carefully monitoring” Vlahovic.

He tweeted: “#Arsenal are still carefully monitoring #Vlahovic’s situation.

“The club is expected to meet his agent soon to gather fresh information. #Juventus, on their part, are open to letting Dusan go and are already working on possible alternatives.”

The Daily Briefing backs up this report, claiming ‘talks are expected’ as Arsenal ‘monitor the striker’s uncertain situation’.

It is claimed that Vlahovic ‘could be a tempting option’ for Arsenal and Juventus have their eye on Man Utd for a ‘potential replacement’.

‘Arsenal are carefully monitoring the situation of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, sources have informed the Daily Briefing.

‘The Serie A giants are currently struggling to make progress with a new contract for the Serbia international, the Daily Briefing understands.

‘The 24-year-old and his representatives are now exploring other options, with Arsenal keeping an eye on how this saga develops as Mikel Arteta and co. remain keen to strengthen up front in the near future.

‘Alexander Isak is another name we’ve heard a lot about, while Arsenal are also understood to have looked at Viktor Gyokeres. Vlahovic could be another tempting option, however, as he’s notably been targeted by the Gunners in the past, with their interest dating back to his time at Fiorentina.

‘New contacts are expected in the coming days, with Arsenal weighing up a January move for Vlahovic, even if nothing has been fully decided yet at either the player or the club’s end.

‘Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is among the names Juventus have looked at as a possible replacement for Vlahovic up front.’

Amorim told to find “reimagined roles” for experienced players as Ineos deliver clear transfer message – The Telegraph

        amorim-told-to-find-“reimagined-roles”-for-experienced-players-as-ineos-deliver-clear-transfer-message-–-the-telegraph

Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim is the latest man tasked with changing the club’s fortunes after more than a decade without a Premier League title.

The Old Trafford side have wasted a monumental amount of money and time on players that have failed to make the grade at the Theatre of Dreams despite arriving with huge reputation and promise.

INEOS are now in charge of the sporting structure at the club and have chosen Amorim as their man but the talented coach will not be afforded the same luxuries in the transfer market as his predecessors.

As reported by The Telegraph, the Portuguese head coach will be expected to get the maximum out of the current crop of players rather than a ‘rip it up and start from scratch’ approach that many have been calling for.

The outlet said, “The new United hierarchy have no plans under Amorim to rip up a squad they feel is capable of delivering far more and are determined to move away from a culture of persistent upheaval they believe to be financially unsustainable and destructive to coherent squad building.”

This is designed to stop the cycle of costly squad overhauls that has been required in the past and ensure United are operating with a more sensible approach with regards to their transfer business.

Given Ten Hag spent more than £600 million and left behind a squad that is now arguably further away from a title challenge than ever, INEOS will hope their new approach proves more sustainable but it will rely heavily on Amorim’s coaching skills.

“United feel there are plenty of players in the squad who, with better coaching, attention and support in the right system and set-up, have a much higher ceiling than they may have shown previously, and the club hope Amorim can unlock that potential.

“Equally, there is a feeling there may be more experienced players who also stand to benefit considerably from Amorim’s arrival and others who find they are given a new lease of life in potentially reimagined roles,” the report added.

Sources at Old Trafford have labelled the recent transfer approach as “wasteful and inefficient” and are looking forward to building a model that will help the club regain its status at the top of the English game.

Furthermore, Amorim is not likely to be granted any funds in the winter market outside of a special circumstance occurring.

“United are unlikely to be particularly active in the January transfer window unless an opportunity presents itself, players leave or injuries or other factors create a problem that has to be addressed.”

The new sporting structure, including Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and chief executive Omar Berrada, will be central to United’s transfer activity next summer and are set give the current players a chance to adapt to Amorim’s methods.

There will be no “definitive plans” in terms of player profile for the closed season market until Amorim has had enough time to get his ideas across and decide who he wants on the bus for his first full campaign at the club.

Amorim will be hoping his international players report back from duty this week with a clean bill of health as he prepares for his first match in charge against newly promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.

Newcastle: Pogba made ‘main target’ amid Romano verdict on Man Utd return; two PL sides ‘want’ him

According to reports, Newcastle United have made Paul Pogba their ‘main target’ and two Premier League clubs ‘want’ to sign the France international.

Last week, Juventus revealed Pogba would leave the Serie A giants on November 30 after all parties agreed a contract termination.

In a statement, Juventus said: “The club wishes Paul the very best for his professional future.

Pogba added: “It has been a privilege to pull on the shirt of the Bianconeri and to share so many special moments together. I cherish the memories we made. They live on.

“Even in the most difficult moments over the past year, your support was crucial and I want to thank Juve fans around the world for their compassion.

“I am looking forward to the next chapter of my career and to stepping out on the pitch with my next club.”

Following a rollercoaster spell at Man Utd, Pogba returned to Juventus on a free transfer during the 2022 summer transfer window.

The experienced midfielder’s second stint at Juventus has been disastrous. He missed most of his debut season with a serious knee injury and earlier this year, he was given a four-year ban for failing a drug test.

READ: Six next moves for Erik ten Hag post-Man Utd include Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United

Pogba appealed this verdict after non-endogenous testosterone was found in his system and he was successful as his ban was reduced to 18 months. He can resume training in January and return to action in March.

Ahead of his Juventus exit, Pogba is being linked with a return to the Premier League and a report in Spain claims Newcastle United and West Ham ‘want’ to sign him.

‘Pogba is the main target of two Premier League clubs: Newcastle United and West Ham United.

‘Both Newcastle and West Ham are willing to take a risk on signing him, confident that, after his ban was reduced from four years to 18 months, Pogba will be able to return in early 2025 and become a key part of their respective projects.’

Man Utd have been urged to make a move to re-sign Pogba, but transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has insisted that he will not be returning to Old Trafford.

He said: “Reports of Paul Pogba set to train at Manchester United’s Carrington are not true.

“Pogba is not planning to train at any club as he’s working in Miami on [a] daily basis.

“As soon as he signs for [a] new club, Paul will be ready to go and train there.

United ready to submit blockbuster January offer of €65m for “sensational” Barca star on Amorim’s orders – report

            united-ready-to-submit-blockbuster-january-offer-of-e65m-for-“sensational”-barca-star-on-amorim’s-orders-–-report

Manchester United’s new head coach Ruben Amorim is set to utilise a three-man defensive line and the club need more quality at the back if his plan is to work.

Victor Lindelof remains injury-prone and his contract ends in 2025. Harry Maguire is also in the same boat while Jonny Evans is not the answer moving forward.

Only Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez are expected to remain and it is clear that the club needs to strengthen in defence.

Jules Kounde of Barcelona has been enjoying a phenomenal season and as relayed by F365, the Red Devils are eyeing the Frenchman on Amorim’s orders.

            Kounde interest

The 26-year-old has played 17 times this season, netting once while providing four assists. While Hansi Flick has mainly utilised him as a right full-back, the Frenchman prefers playing in the heart of the defence.

This versatility will be a huge asset for Amorim and the 20-time English league champions are preparing a January offer of €65 million for the former Sevilla star.

The Catalan giants were open to moving on Kounde back when Xavi was in charge but Flick has instructed the club not to let go of the France international.

“Manchester United are interested in the addition of a Barça star who is one of the most outstanding players of the season so far. The performances that Jules Koundé has shown can only be categorized as sensational.

“Fortunately, the arrival of Hans-Dieter Flick in place of Xavi Hernández has radically changed his situation, and he has been able to recover his best version.

            Move unlikely

“Something that has caused him to become one of Rubén Amorim’s first requests as soon as he arrived at Old Trafford, to strengthen the wing demarcation.

“So the English entity has already prepared a first offensive, which would be valued at 65 million euros, a very important amount.”

Barca want potential suitors to pay his full termination clause of €1000 million, which in unlikely to be ever met. Kounde, therefore, will only leave if Barcelona want him gone.

Signing a versatile defender makes a lot of sense and it will be interesting to see how INEOS operate in the market and how they work in tandem with the new Portuguese coach.

United look set to face Van Nistelrooy this season as three-way PL tussle develops for his signature – report

              united-look-set-to-face-van-nistelrooy-this-season-as-three-way-pl-tussle-develops-for-his-signature-–-report

A dismal start to the current season which left Manchester United perilously close to the drop zone in the Premier League finally forced INEOS into action and they had no choice but to sack Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman’s puzzling selection calls did not do him any favours either with the new co-owners placing Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge.

And the former club striker did a fine job steadying the ship, going unbeaten in four games, while picking up three emphatic wins which left the Red Devils only four points off the top four.

The former PSV Eindhoven boss reiterated his desire to continue working under new head coach Ruben Amorim while the players also expressed hope that he would be kept on once the new coach came in.

              Ruud’s departure

Instead, Amorim decided to bring his own staff in and Van Nistelrooy departed, and was reportedly disappointed at the abrupt end of his tenure.

But he might not be without a job for too long with reports emerging that Burnley are interested in him while the former Netherlands international has applied for the Coventry City manager’s post.

But surely, the 48-year-old can do better than the Championship and Fichajes have now revealed that as many as three Premier League clubs are looking at the out-of-work manager with interest.

Leicester City, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Crystal Palace have all endured a difficult start to the current campaign and are contemplating a change in the dugout.

Wolves and the Eagles are languishing in 19th and 18th position respectively while the Foxes are 15th. All three would have expected to be in better positions considering the talent in their squad.

              PL interest

“The name Ruud Van Nistelrooy is once again making waves in the Premier League. His brief spell at the helm of Manchester United has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs.

“Leicester City, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are among the interested parties. Each face specific challenges in their current campaigns and believe Van Nistelrooy’s experience and winning mentality could be the boost needed to achieve their goals.”

Van Nistelrooy’s work with both young and experienced stars has shown his mettle as a manager and it is only a matter of time before a gets a new job.

In case he does return to coaching in England, the 48-year-old will be desperate to prove Amorim and INEOS wrong for letting him go.

Man Utd: Amorim given ‘more modest budget’ than Ten Hag as INEOS hope two players ‘thrive’

                man-utd:-amorim-given-‘more-modest-budget’-than-ten-hag-as-ineos-hope-two-players-‘thrive’

Man Utd are looking to end years of transfer mistakes by giving Ruben Amorim a ‘more modest budget’ compared to Erik ten Hag, according to reports.

The Red Devils sacked Ten Hag at the end of October after the Dutchman could only guide them to three wins in their first nine Premier League matches of the season.

Despite securing another four points in two games under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, new head coach Amorim will start with Man Utd 13th place in the Premier League.

Amorim was officially announced on November 1 but he could not start until last Monday after taking charge of his final match as Sporting Lisbon boss in a 4-2 win over Braga.

Speculation is already rife about who INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe could look to buy in order to support Amorim in the January transfer window with numerous names mooted as potential additions.

However, the Daily Telegraph claim that Amorim will ‘operate on a more modest budget’ than Ten Hag as the Portuguese coach will be tasked with ‘maximising the untapped potential in the squad as the club aim to end the damaging and costly cycle of mass overhauls’.

                The report adds:

‘The new United hierarchy have no plans under Amorim to rip up a squad they feel is capable of delivering far more and are determined to move away from a culture of persistent upheaval they believe to be financially unsustainable and destructive to coherent squad building.

‘Denmark striker Rasmus Hojlund and England midfielder Mason Mount are cited as just two examples of players United are hoping can thrive in a new environment under the charismatic Portuguese, who will take charge of his first game as the club’s new head coach away to Ipswich Town on Sunday.

‘United have averaged five new signings every summer for the past 10 years under four different managers with vastly different ideas of how they want to play. All have had little success to show for the huge expenditure.

‘While Amorim is expected to be operating under a more modest transfer budget next summer than his predecessor Ten Hag did during his 2½-year reign, when he spent more than £600 million, United want to implement a more sustainable structure where waste is limited, the churn of players greatly reduced and more talent realised.

‘United feel there are plenty of players in the squad who, with better coaching, attention and support in the right system and set-up, have a much higher ceiling than they may have shown previously, and the club hope Amorim can unlock that potential.

Sheringham names Man Utd star Amorim must get ‘on board very quickly’ if he is to succeed

                    sheringham-names-man-utd-star-amorim-must-get-‘on-board-very-quickly’-if-he-is-to-succeed

Man Utd legend Teddy Sheringham thinks new head coach Ruben Amorim must get Marcus Rashford on his side “very, very quickly” in order to have a successful time at Old Trafford.

Amorim was appointed on November 1 after the Red Devils sacked Erik ten Hag earlier that week, while he had to wait until last Monday to begin work after taking charge of his last Sporting Lisbon match against Braga before the international break.

And now Amorim can get to work fixing Man Utd with the Red Devils currently 13th in the Premier League table after a disastrous start to the new season.

Ten Hag’s side won three of their first nine Premier League matches before interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy put another four points on the board in their last two fixtures.

Rashford has been underperforming since the 2022/23 season, when he scored 30 goals in all competitions, and Sheringham reckons it’s vital that Amorim gets the Man Utd forward “on board” and firing to have a successful first campaign.

Sheringham told Best Offshore Sportsbooks“I’m looking at these United players, and hey might not know it or think it, but they need to be led. Marcus Rashford needs to look at a manager and think, ‘I like the way he’s talking; I like his vibe, I understand exactly what he wants, and we need to go out and do it. I’m going to lead from the front.’

“Younger players would then look at Rashford and think, ‘If you’re going to show me how it’s done, I’m following you as well. Come on, let’s all go together.’

“He’s got to get the top players on his side very, very quickly.

“Rashford is your main example because everyone looks to him. He’s the one that’s going to score your goals, going to make goals, and he’s the one that people look at and go, ‘He ain’t at it, is he?’

“So, he needs to get him on board and get him leading from the front. He’s not a young lad anymore. He’s an experienced player. It’s funny how quickly you change from a young lad to an experienced ever-present player. All of a sudden, you’re experienced, you look around the changing room and you’re expected to lead.

“He’s played for England many times and he should be leading from the front and he’s not doing that at Man United. That needs to change. He’s got to get the top players on his side very, very quickly.”

When asked how promising was the victory that Amorim got over Man City in the Champions League, Sheringham replied: “Without a doubt, that comprehensive victory over Manchester City was a promising sign.

“I don’t think it means a lot in the bigger picture of when Manchester City play Man United because he’s got a lot of work to do to get them performing the way that Sporting have been performing.

“It’s not undoable. It’s a tough job to get everybody on side and to get them working exactly how you want them. That’s why they’ve gone out and got him because they’ve looked at every Sporting player and they’re all playing out of their skin. They’re playing at the top of their game.

“You look at Manchester United and you ask me which players you need to get going. It’s every single one of them. You could look at every one of those players and go, none of them are performing to their capabilities.

“None of them are performing 10 out of 10 every week. Probably the best you might get is a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10 once every few weeks, but that ain’t good enough. Amorim will want every single player doing their bit, then as a team, collectively, that makes you even better and stronger. That’s what he’ll be looking for, for the team to be performing as a unit.”

On what the short-term objective for Amorim is, Sheringham added; “It will be very, very evident if Amorim’s got things right in the first place. The work ethic is the main thing.

“He needs to get that cohesion into the team.  He needs the players all working in unison. To do that, he’s going to have to be a good communicator who can get his points across to his players and help them understand what he demands of them as a manager.

“If he’s had that impact, you should see an immediate spark in the team and the way they play.

“In terms of new signings, potentially the money’s been spent. Amorim is inheriting what is essentially Ten Hag’s squad, there’s going to be guys in there that he’s not going to want, so it will take time to build the squad that he wants. I would love to see United be ambitious and try to make a couple of exciting signings in January if they have the budget to do it.”

Amorim tells United to sign brilliant 24-yo attacking sensation who can play across the front line – report

New Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly keen to bring in Galatasaray attacker Yunus Akgün.

The Red Devils will shortly be changing up their formation with Amorim preferring a 3-4-3 formation, that will require wing backs and attackers to perform in ways they are perhaps not accustomed to.

This change of playing style will inevitably mean that the new boss will seek out his own type of player to fulfil his specific tactical instructions.

One player that has been linked to a switch to Old Trafford is Turkish international Yunus Akgün.

The Peoples Person has relayed that United are attracted to the player’s versatility to play as a wing back and a more traditional winger.

Turkish outlet Sabah echo these rumours and state that Amorim has “set his sights on” the 24 year old to improve his squad.

The outlet also praises the player’s ability to play all across the front line, as they state he can also perform as a number 10.

Interestingly, the paper claims that Amorim’s attraction to the player has gone on for some time as he “noticed Yunus during his time coaching the Portuguese team.”

This interest has carried on to United where the new coach has reportedly given “a positive opinion” on the influence the Turk could have on the club’s playing squad.

The Istanbul native has six goals and two assists in all competitions, including four strikes in four games in the Europa League.

Akgün is said to excel at passing and dribbling and also is keen to cut in to get shots off.

The Galatasaray player would certainly be an interesting prospect and his versatility and relative value for money at €6.5 million according to transfermarkt.com, could mean he might turn out to be a smart and valuable addition to what Amorim wants to build at Old Trafford.
