Mazraoui and Malacia poor, but this United star made it like playing with 10 men vs Bournemouth

    mazraoui-and-malacia-poor,-but-this-united-star-made-it-like-playing-with-10-men-vs-bournemouth

Manchester United suffered a humiliating 3-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth. Here are our player ratings from the game.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 4 -Well and truly beaten for all three goals. Poor distribution and on more than one occasion, held on to the ball for too long, sparking the anger of the home supporters.

Noussair Mazraoui 2 – Recklessy conceded a penalty when he brought down Justin Kluivert.

Harry Maguire 4 – Sloppy at times and endured a few shaky moments.

Lisandro Martinez 3.5 – Poor again. Lost Antoine Semenyo for Bournemouth’s third of the match.

Diogo Dalot 5 – Didn’t do much wrong but you can’t help but feel he could have done more, especially in attack.

Manuel Ugarte 7 – Busy in midfield again. Some excellent tackles and challenges in there that brought an end to spells of Bournemouth possession. United completely got overrun in midfield once he was taken off.

Kobbie Mainoo 4 – Not sharp enough, especially in possession. Even his link-up play was not up to the standard. Appears to be struggling to find his natural place under Ruben Amorim.

Tyrell Malacia 3 – Struggled a bit, especially early in the first half but grew into it a bit more as the game progressed. Didn’t offer an awful lot going forward. Gave away two silly fouls on the byline, one of which resulted in Bournemouth’s opening goal. Rightfully taken off at half time.

Amad Diallo 6 – Kept quiet by Milos Kerkez, who barely gave him room to breathe down the right. Had one or two promising sights of goal but he was unable to find the back of the net.

Bruno Fernandes 6.5 – Had three very good opportunities to score in the first half but he couldn’t hit the target. Kept trying to make things happen even when United seemed done and dusted.

Joshua Zirkzee 2 – Not involved in play nearly enough. Didn’t even have a shot at goal. Should have stuck tighter to Dean Huijsen for the visitors’ opener.

    Substitutes

Leny Yoro 5 – He and Fernandes could have perhaps done more to cut Evanilson’s pass to Dango Ouattara, or even locked down the Burkinabé footballer before he found Semenyo with the cutback.

Rasmus Hojlund 6 – Forced Kepa Arrizabalaga into a good save. Looked lively but unfortunately, couldn’t help United turn the game around.

Alejandro Garnacho 5 – Good chance to cut down Bournemouth’s lead when Hojlund put him through on goal but he couldn’t beat Arrizabalaga. Got into some good positions but failed to make the most of it.

Daft and dangerous: United’s defence made this vital mistake yet again in humiliating 3-0 loss to Bournemouth

      daft-and-dangerous:-united’s-defence-made-this-vital-mistake-yet-again-in-humiliating-3-0-loss-to-bournemouth

Manchester United capitulated to Bournemouth in what was a horrific 3-0 defeat at home on Sunday afternoon.

Yet again, Man United’s defence showed its vulnerability from set-pieces, allowing the away side to grab an early lead, which handed them all the momentum from that moment on.

After five minutes of pinball-style football, with the ball flinging rapidly from one side of the field to the other, United got their first scoring opportunity. Amad Diallo pounced on a pass from Kobbie Mainoo, sending a shot toward the bottom left corner that the goalkeeper saved at full stretch.

Nine minutes in, Antoine Semenyo took a speculative shot from distance that Andre Onana saved comfortably.

Four minutes later, Semenyo fouled Lisandro Martinez to hand United a free kick. Fernandes’ cross was easily cut out by the visitors’ defence, however.

29 minutes in, United’s terrible approach to set pieces was exposed yet again. Tyrell Malacia fouled Adam Smith on the touchline, handing the underdogs a free kick. Ryan Christie’s cross found Dean Huijsen, whose header floated into the back of the net while Onana watched on hopelessly. Poor marking again from United’s defence.

Moments after the restart, Onana parried a shot to prevent his side going two goals down. Clearly, United’s defensive struggles have not been resolved.

In the 37th minute, Manuel Ugarte was booked for bringing down Justin Kluivert, who almost broke through United’s defence.

Five minutes from the break, Diogo Dalot played the ball to Bruno Fernandes on the edge of the box, whose shot skidded wide of the upright.

Moments later, Kobbie Mainoo started a rapid counter, passing to Fernandes on the left, whose shot was well saved. Amad Diallo’s corner almost found the back of the net, only for Huijsen to head the ball out. Finally, United began to ask questions of the visitors’ defence.

On the stroke of half-time, Mainoo showed some impressive footwork to dribble past four Bournemouth defenders, only to send his shot wide of the far post. Still, with one minute of stoppage time, United had a bit of time to find an equaliser before the break.

United’s poor defending would have given Ruben Amorim a lot to think about as his team found themselves trailing at half-time yet again. Clearly, there is still a heap of work to do in order to strengthen United’s defence.

When both teams returned to the pitch for the second half, Leny Yoro came on in place for Malacia, signalling Amorim’s intent to already affect change from the start of the second 45 minutes.

Hojlund replaced Joshua Zirkzee in the 54th minute, while Alejandro Garnacho came on for Manuel Ugarte.

On the hour mark, the referee awarded a penalty to the visitors. Mazraoui took down Kluivert with a sliding tackle, missing the ball with his effort. Kluivert sent Onana diving the wrong way with his confident strike, doubling the visitors’ lead in front of a mortified Old Trafford crowd.

Just a few moments later, United’s afternoon became even more nightmarish. Dango Ouattara cut back the ball to Semenyo, who struck the ball into the back of the net for Bournemouth’s third goal.

In the 68th minute, Hojlund did well to take a left-footed shot to force a corner.

Garnacho attempted a speculative shot but goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga made easy work of it. United seemed to have no attacking creativity in the tank after going 3-0 down.

With 11 minutes to play, Hojlund surged up the field, taking a shot that veered right of the post. Another poor shot from United.

As the clock continued to wind down, United’s ineffectiveness on the ball persisted, with the visiting underdogs dominating control of the midfield.

Yoro surged up into the final third, taking a dangerous shot that forced a save from close range. It was one of United’s best chances of the game.

Amorim’s players made little other progress before the final whistle blew to conclude what was an embarrassing afternoon to forget.

Unbelievably, it was United’s second straight 3-0 loss at home to Bournemouth. Clearly, Amorim’s defensive woes are even deeper than they first appeared. Some transfer activity in January may be exactly what is needed to exercise some much-required change.

Starting XI: Onana, Mazraoui, Maguire, Martinez, Fernandes, Zirkzee, Malacia, Amad, Dalot, Ugarte, Mainoo
      Subs: Yoro, Hojlund, Garnacho

Man Utd: Neville reacts to latest Rashford snub vs Bournemouth as ‘inevitable ending’ nears

        man-utd:-neville-reacts-to-latest-rashford-snub-vs-bournemouth-as-‘inevitable-ending’-nears

Man Utd legend Gary Neville thinks Marcus Rashford now faces an “inevitable ending” at Old Trafford after Ruben Amorim left him out of his third matchday squad in a row.

Amorim axed Rashford and team-mate Alejandro Garnacho for their 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Man City in the Manchester Derby last weekend.

The Man Utd boss included Garnacho in his squad as the Red Devils lost 4-3 to Tottenham in their Carabao Cup semi-final in midweek but Rashford was still absent.

And Amorim left Rashford out of his squad against Bournemouth today too after Rashford’s comments earlier in the week insisting that he wanted a “new challenge” away from Man Utd.

In an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.

“When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

On leaving Rashford out again, Amorim told Sky Sports: “No that is not possible, it’s my decision and always will be. It’s selection. I want to see the best of my players and I try different things with different players. That’s my focus.”

Man Utd legend Neville thinks the Rashford saga will now reach an “inevitable ending” in the Januuary transfer window after his latest snub.

After hearing the team news ahead of the match against Bournemouth, Neville told Sky Sports: “Rashford’s absence isn’t really a surprise any more. It’s something of the norm.

“You leave him out for three matches on the bounce, something really is going wrong or has gone wrong.

“It’s not looking great for both Marcus’ future at the club or Manchester United keeping him. I suspect it’s getting to the point in the journey where there is an inevitable ending.”

Neville said earlier this week that he expects Rashford to still find a big club whenever he leaves Man Utd as he has a “pedigree”.

Speaking on The Rest is Football, Neville said: “I think he’ll (Rashford) get a big club because there is a pedigree there…

“I don’t think United will want an embarrassment on their hands – they’ll probably want him abroad.”

Confirmed United XI vs Bournemouth: Maguire, Ugarte, Mainoo and Zirkzee start, Rashford and De Ligt not in squad

          confirmed-united-xi-vs-bournemouth:-maguire,-ugarte,-mainoo-and-zirkzee-start,-rashford-and-de-ligt-not-in-squad

Marcus Rashford and Matthijs de Ligt are both once again missing from the Manchester United squad as they prepare to face Bournemouth this afternoon.

Rashford looks to be on his way out of the club after an ill-considered interview in which he said he was ready for a new challenge.

De Ligt was ill for the last match against Spurs on Thursday so it is likely he has not recovered in time.

Mason Mount is also out after another injury setback that will keep him on the sidelines for several weeks. Luke Shaw is still injured.

Andre Onana will be in goal.

The back three will be Harry Maguire, Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez. Victor Lindelof picked up an injury in that game. His place in the squad is taken by midfielder Toby Collyer.

Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot are the wing backs, with the Portuguese switching to the right.

Kobbie Mainoo comes into the midfield alongside Manu Ugarte.

Bruno Fernandes, Amad and Joshua Zirkzee start up front.

On the subs bench, Altay Bayindir is the backup goalkeeper.

Jonny Evans and Leny Yoro are the defensice reinforcements.

Casemiro, Collyer and Christian Eriksen are the midfield subs.

The attacking subs are Alejandro Garnacho, Antony and Rasmus Hojlund.

The absence of Garnacho from another starting lineup suggests all is still not well between him and manager Ruben Amorim.

Kick off at Old Trafford is at 2pm.

United superstar who has “not got many close friends” has lost the dressing room with latest comments – report

            united-superstar-who-has-“not-got-many-close-friends”-has-lost-the-dressing-room-with-latest-comments-–-report

Despite the heartbreaking loss against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup, it is clear to see that Ruben Amorim has got his players playing an attractive brand of football.

However, despite the on-field heroics, off-field issues continue to plague the team with Marcus Rashford’s interview with Henry Winter creating all the headlines in the past week.

Ruben Amorim took the bold decision to drop the Mancunian for the all-important Manchester derby and despite his absence, the team emerged triumphant.

Since that interview dropped, the Englishman has also been left out of the matchday squad for the tie against Spurs and is likely to miss the Bournemouth game as well, as alluded to by the head coach.

Dressing room not happy with Rashford

The Sun have now revealed that the dressing room has not taken too kindly to Rashford’s comments about leaving especially as it came after the team defeated Manchester City in stunning fashion.

The report also added that with Jesse Lingard and Paul Pogba no longer at the football club, the 27-year-old does not have too many friends and this latest move seems to have alienated him further.

A source told the publication, “Some of the players are really annoyed at what Marcus said and why he chose to say it at that time.

“They were all buzzing after beating City and then he basically put in a transfer request after being dropped for one game. He’s not got many close friends in the squad anymore after the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard left.

Rashford’s future up in the air

“So he’s pretty quiet and doesn’t really act as a leader. More is expected of him but he doesn’t seem interested, despite having been in the first team for eight years.”

The United academy graduate does not have too many places to go if he does leave his boyhood club with not many clubs in a position to pay INEOS’ asking price as well as the player’s humongous £375,000 per week (as per capology).

So far the likes of Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain have removed themselves from the running with the big clubs only capable of offering a loan exit, something that the Red Devils are unlikely to sanction.

Saudi Arabia remains a possibility but Rashford does not seem to be interested in a move to the Middle East just yet. A huge conundrum for the club to solve.

Man Utd star ‘will not be in the squad again’ as Amorim leaves forward out for Bournemouth clash

              man-utd-star-‘will-not-be-in-the-squad-again’-as-amorim-leaves-forward-out-for-bournemouth-clash

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford ‘will not be in the squad again’ after being left out for the Red Devils’ clash against Bournemouth, according to reports.

Ruben Amorim left Rashford out of the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over arch-rivals Man City last weekend with the Man Utd boss claiming it was for “selection” reasons.

Garnacho was also left out of the squad against Man City but the Argentina international returned against Tottenham, whereas Rashford was still absent.

There were reports the week before the clash against the Citizens that Man Utd would consider ‘top offers’ to sell Rashford in the January transfer window.

And Rashford admitted that he was “ready for a new challenge” in an interview with journalist Henry Winter following his axing for the derby victory over City.

Those comments have upset some of his Man Utd team-mates, according to reports, with Rashford being linked to a number of clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

And now talkSPORT claims that ‘it is believed that he will not be in the squad again’ under Amorim as Man Utd look to sell him.

              The report adds:

‘Marcus Rashford is believed to still be absent from the Manchester United matchday squad.

‘It will be the third straight game in a row that Rashford has now been selected by Ruben Amorim.

‘The forward, along with Alejandro Garnacho, was left out of the Manchester derby squad.

‘Garnacho returned midweek for the Carabao Cup clash with Spurs, but Rashford did not.

‘Now it is believed that he will not be in the squad again.

‘This is following the comments he made to journalist Henry Winter that he was “ready for a new challenge”.’

Former Man Utd striker Michael Owen is unsure whether Rashford will remain at Old Trafford but he thinks things are getting better under new boss Amorim.

Owen told AceOdds: “With Marcus, it doesn’t seem to me like it’s an ability thing. It’s more of a mental thing. We’ve all seen how good he is many times so I don’t think that anybody has any doubts about his ability but, mentally, I think he needs to become a bit better.

“Maybe this new regime will drag him along. Maybe he’s one of the players that you think, ‘no, everybody else is doing well, he might not be, and it might be time [to leave]’.

“At the moment, I would just sit tight, watch, and enjoy with Manchester United, because they’re a far better team than the previous one [under Ten Hag] already.

“You can already see how the team is going to develop and they already look like they create far more chances and score more goals. I think it’s already quite exciting, but I think it’s going to get even better. Man Utd fans have had to be patient for so long now, and to give Amorim a little bit of time, I think is the right thing to do.”

Academy wonderkid who has been on fire in front of goal this season has “attracted the interest of Amorim” – report

                academy-wonderkid-who-has-been-on-fire-in-front-of-goal-this-season-has-“attracted-the-interest-of-amorim”-–-report

Manchester United’s strikers have not exactly set the stage alight this season with Rasmus Hojlund failing to impress in the last two games.

In fact, it was Joshua Zirkzee who impressed more than the Dane in his short cameo against Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday. But the Dutchman’s future remains in the air.

With Marcus Rashford already announcing his desire to leave, Ruben Amorim needs help up front and the solution could come from within the academy.

There has been a lot of hype built up around Chido Obi since he switched from the Emirates to Old Trafford but it is his U18 teammate Gabriele Biancheri who has caught the eye of coaches.

                Biancheri on fire

He has been on fire for the U18s, netting eight times in six games in the U18 league while grabbing a stunning hat-trick in the 5-0 FA Youth Cup win over Coventry this week.

The Welshman has impressed for the reserves as well, scoring twice in the PL 2 while also netting thrice in the UEFA Youth League.

According to Givemesport, Amorim has been hugely impressed with the 18-year-old and it is only a matter of time before he is called up for first team training.

“Welshman Gabriele Biancheri grabbed a hat-trick to Obi-Martin’s brace in the 5-0 FA Youth Cup win over Coventry this week. It’s an indicator that United’s production line of talent is still in full flow.

                Amorim impressed

“Biancheri has now scored eight goals in six appearances in the Under-18 league and has already attracted the interest of Amorim and his coaches along with Obi-Martin.”

The report also adds that Amorim will not throw the youngster into the deep end just yet and is not looking to bring through any young strikers currently, rather adopting a wait-and-watch policy.

United have quite a few promising strikers coming up through the system and apart from the former Arsenal youth star and Biancheri, there is also Ethan Wheatley waiting for his first opportunity under Amorim.

It will be interesting to see what Amorim’s plans are and whether the club send anyone of them out on loan. Wheatley is attracting plenty of interest and a temporary move away could help him catch the coach’s eye.

14 clearances, 100% ground duels won: United youngster shines on loan despite defeat

                  14-clearances,-100%-ground-duels-won:-united-youngster-shines-on-loan-despite-defeat

Manchester United youngsters enjoyed a mixed Saturday afternoon of action.

Accrington Stanley’s Sonny Aljofree suffered a disappointing 2-0 home loss to Salford City.

The 19 year old played all 90 minutes and made an incredible 14 clearances.

He put in an imperious performance winning all three of his ground duels and four out of five of his aerial battles.

Aljofree also made three tackles and completed one interception.

The only flaw in his performance was he struggled to get on the ball, making only nine of 17 passes.

Fellow academy centre back Rhys Bennett was also in action for Fleetwood Town.

After a long spell out of the team he has played in the last four games and played the entirety of the 2-0 loss away to Barrow.

He made four clearances and had two blocked shots as he helped his side stay in the game.

Bennett won five out of eight of his aerial duels but was not so effective on the ground, winning just two out of six ground battles.

He also had 54 touches of the ball, making 18 out of 30 passes in the match.

The 21 year old will be disappointed with his long passing game though, as he could only connect with two out of his 10 attempts.

Youth team keeper Elyh Harrison played another full game for Chester as his side drew 1-1 at home to King’s Lynn Town.

The youngster put in a good showing and was only beaten by a close range header that he could do little about.

The only United man to taste victory was James Nolan, whose Inverness Caledonian Thistle side beat Stenhousemuir 1-0 away from home.

The 19 year old also played the 90 minutes from his usual right back spot.

“A suggestion of tensions”: Ineos playing with fire as schisms appear with key club department

                    “a-suggestion-of-tensions”:-ineos-playing-with-fire-as-schisms-appear-with-key-club-department

Manchester United’s new owners and the academy system are believed to be at odds with each other over certain decisions being taken.

Ineos have invested heavily in the academy, signing exciting prospects such as Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon.

The under 18s have also been incredible, winning the treble last year and winning all 10 of their league matches this season.

However, not all appears so rosy behind the scenes according to a report by The Manchester Evening News.

The outlet claims that “there has been a suggestion of tensions between Jason Wilcox and some staff, and they are believed to be under added pressure to produce results.”

“Coaches at different age groups are feeling more scrutiny to win games, whereas in the past, the focus would solely be on youth development and not particularly the outcome of a fixture.”

Due to the fine results of the under 18s this doesn’t seem to be major problem but the under 21s sit 6th in the league, nine points behind Manchester City, so this could potentially become an issue for the new owners.

In addition, due to the cost-cutting policies implemented by the Ineos group at the club, “some highly skilled staff were lost in Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s club-wide restructure” and there have been significant doubts about some of the hires that Ineos have made.

“Simon Wiles from Salford City, who left his position as a first-team coach to become the Under-14 coach” has raised some eyebrows, for example.

The scale of change has also been a surprise to many at the club as “it initially appeared that Ineos’ changes to the academy would be minimal”.

Nonetheless, it has become clear that they are aiming to make significantly deeper, longer-lasting alterations to how United go about things at youth level.

It is a fine balance for Ineos to find as of course they want to do things their way, but arguably the youth system is one element of the club that does not need a huge amount of upheaval when you consider the success of the teams and quality of players recruited long before Ineos arrived on the scene.

Man Utd forward Marcus Rashford has reportedly lost the support of his team-mates after revealing he’s ready to leave Old Trafford.

The England international was dropped, along with Alejandro Garnacho, for the Red Devils’ 2-1 win over arch-rivals Man City in the Manchester Derby, while he didn’t return to their squad for their next match against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

There had been a week of speculation that Man Utd were open to ‘top offers’ for Rashford in the build up to the clash with Man City.

And, in an interview with journalist Henry Winter, Rashford admitted the day after the Manchester Derby that he is “ready for a new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

Rashford said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

And now The Sun claim that Rashford ‘has lost the dressing room after insisting he wants to leave’ Man Utd with his team-mates ‘fuming’ over his comments.

It is understood that ‘some of the squad were left dismayed when the 27-year-old striker gave an unauthorised interview during a surprise visit to his old primary school’.

The report insists it ‘overshadowed’ their victory over Man City as they went on to lose 4-3 in their next match against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.

A source told The Sun: “Some of the players are really annoyed at what Marcus said and why he chose to say it at that time.

“They were all buzzing after beating City and then he basically put in a transfer request after being dropped for one game.

“He’s not got many close friends in the squad anymore after the likes of Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard left, so he’s pretty quiet and doesn’t really act as a leader.

“More is expected of him but he doesn’t seem interested, despite having been in the first team for eight years.”

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher told Rashford to “keep his mouth shut” after hearing about his comments about leaving.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: “I feel like I’ve been talking about Marcus Rashford for the last week, and I’ve said before, he’s not that good of a player for the amount of time that we talk about him. Wayne Rooney was, David Beckham was, Cristiano Ronaldo was.

“I’m not for any player coming out and being critical of the club, but for Rashford to do that, to come out without the club having any knowledge of it and just announce he’s basically put in a transfer request or he wants to leave the club, that leaves the club in a really poor position in terms of negotiating his exit at some stage.

“If he really believes he wants to still be a Manchester United player and he still wants to have a great career, you don’t come out with a statement like that. You keep your mouth shut, you battle and you hope that you get a little chance.”
