Video: More humiliation for United after loss to Bournemouth as Amorim’s presser is interrupted by leaking roof

Ruben Amorim’s post-match press conference after Manchester United’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth was interrupted by a leak in the ceiling.

United crashed to the devastating loss courtesy of goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo.

The result has left United languishing in 13th place in the Premier League standings – their lowest league position on Christmas Day since 1989/90.

The United players were jeered off the pitch at the final whistle by fans who had not departed the stadium.

As Amorim answered questions from journalists following the defeat, things went from bad to worse as the press conference was disrupted by a leaking roof.

Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst posted a video on X showing this.

BBC’s Simon Stone revealed that water was dripping down on the front row of journalists, forcing him to switch seats.

Old Trafford has gained a somewhat embarrassing reputation for struggling to keep water out during rainy matches.

Earlier this year, clips emerged online showing seats drenched after a meeting with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was at Old Trafford for that game.

Remedial works were conducted and according to MEN, United sources privately admitted that “some parts of the stadium struggled to cope.”

It’s understood that Ratcliffe created an Old Trafford task force to look into such issues.

United have just finished consulting fans over the redevelopment of Old Trafford and a final decision – either on refurbishment or the construction of a new arena – is expected to be made next year.

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Boxing Day when they make their way to the Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Man Utd: Ten Hag’s unbeloved flop has ‘won over’ Amorim with ‘new deal’ on the horizon

      man-utd:-ten-hag’s-unbeloved-flop-has-‘won-over’-amorim-with-‘new-deal’-on-the-horizon

Man Utd defender Harry Maguire could be set for a new deal under Ruben Amorim after impressing the Red Devils boss, according to former scout Mick Brown.

Maguire has had a turbulent time at Old Trafford with the England international receiving more stick than most over their inconsistent performances under Erik ten Hag.

The Dutchman even made Maguire captain at one point during his reign but quickly changed his mind and stripped the Man Utd defender of the role and gave it to Bruno Fernandes.

The 31-year-old, who signed from Leicester City in 2019 for an £80m fee, has been out of favour this season but he started last weekend as Man Utd beat Man City 2-1 in the Manchester Derby.

Maguire has now made 13 appearances in all competitions this term but only eight of those have come in the starting XI at Man Utd.

And now former Man Utd chief scout Brown – who is still well-connected at the Premier League club – insists he’s heard that Amorim has been “impressed” by the centre-back and that a new deal could be in the offing.

Brown told Football Insider: “I think he’s getting closer to knowing what his best team is.

“That was always going to be his first priority at United – and once again we come back to Harry Maguire and his role in the side.

“When he starts, they are a better team, and I think Amorim has seen that. A lot of clubs have been interested in him, but I think they might’ve missed out now.

“There’s been a lot of talk about his future, but every game he plays he’s proving to Amorim what he can do.

“I said before it will be the manager who makes the decision about his future, and from what I’m told, he’s been impressed with what he’s seen.

“If he keeps playing like he has done, and keeps getting picked for the big games, I think he’ll be edging closer to signing a new deal to keep him at United.”

Former Man Utd assistant manager Rene Meulensteen reckons Maguire can kick-start his career under Amorim with the Portuguese head coach playing a back three.

Meulensteen told Instant Casino: “Harry Maguire still has a role to play in this Manchester United setup. It helps that Ruben Amorim wants to play with a back three because it means he’s got protection around him. He got exposed way too often in a back four in 1v1 situations or in behind, but in the back three, he’s got protection either side.

“He remains very good on the ball, and he brings experience and height to the team, so I think Amorim’s appointment could work out as a very positive change for him. It could be something that helps him turn a corner and kickstart his United career again.”

Manchester United succumbed to yet another 0-3 loss at the hands of Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday, staying in the bottom half of the Premier League table at Christmas for the first time.

Ruben Amorim’s system has shown it works as seen from the impressive Manchester derby win but he lacks the correct personnel with the team massively lacking in consistency.

The head coach’s decision to sub off Manuel Ugarte in the second half allowed the Cherries to build momentum but the lack of quality out wide really hurt the hosts.

Amorim had explained earlier that Diogo Dalot is more suited to the right wingback role rather than playing on the opposite flank, where he has been forced to play due to injury reasons.

        Dalot was poor vs Cherries

On Sunday, the coach opted to start Tyrell Malacia on the left against Andoni Iraola’s team to give Dalot the chance to shine in his favoured position.

The Portuguese full-back was average to say the least on the right, and was non-existent when he was shifted back to the left side.

He ended the game with a passing accuracy of 75 percent, poor from a wingback who hardly affected the game in an attacking sense.

He managed zero crosses, while failing to complete even one dribble. To make matters worse, the Portuguese lost possession 13 times (all stats via sofascore).

Last season, Dalot had three goals and five assists. This season he has zero, which shows how ineffective he has been moving forwards. He has two assists this term but his last assist came back in October.

        Dalot needs a rest

He was poor defensively as well, failing to win a single ground duel while he was dribbled past once. He did complete two clearances and managed one interception.

The coach’s system needs players who can attack and defend with gusto, but the 25-year-old has failed in both aspects so far this campaign.

Many have pointed to the lack of rest for Dalot which has contributed to his poor showings off late but until United can recruit someone, he is likely to keep playing on the left with Luke Shaw out injured and Malacia struggling for form.

Amorim ideally needs wingers in that position instead of ineffective full-backs. INEOS need to help him in January but will they?

“It’s on me”: Amorim says he is to blame for huge United weakness that was ruthlessly exploited by Bournemouth

          “it’s-on-me”:-amorim-says-he-is-to-blame-for-huge-united-weakness-that-was-ruthlessly-exploited-by-bournemouth

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has assumed responsibility for the club’s weaknesses from set-pieces.

This is after United conceded yet again from a set-piece, this time in a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.

Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo found the back of the net to doom United to a second consecutive defeat across all competitions.

Even more concerning, the Red Devils conceded from a set piece for the seventh time in their last six games.

In his interview with BBC Match of the Day, Lisandro Martinez identified the team’s struggles with defending set pieces as the key factor behind their loss to the Cherries.

Amorim spoke to journalists in his post-match presser and was asked about his assistant Carlos Fernandes, who is also the team’s set-piece coach.

The United boss refused to slam Fernandes, instead choosing to direct the criticism towards himself.

“The responsibility of everything is me, is not Carlos (Fernandes), it’s on me.”

On United’s performance and the disappointing result, Amorim said, “It’s a lot of mental but you can feel it not just the players but the fans. In the first goal kick with Andre Onana, he’s thinking what to do and push the other guys and everybody is so anxious. At this moment, everybody in the club is tired of these moments.”

“We have to face it and focus on the next game. We know what to do, we have to address a lot of things but we are ready to do it. We aready knew that the challenge is big, it’s really tough on the fans, the players, that they are losing 2-0 at home so they want to score two goals.”

“You have more possession, you create more chances. We concede less chances so you are defending but of course the result says a different thing.”

“But you are defending better than the opponent because you concede less opportunities, you are creating more, so you are attacking more. But in the last moment, we don’t score and the result says different things. Like I said, it’s really hard, we have to address that. We are suffering a lot of goals, creating chances but not scoring so we have to address that.”

The 39-year-old added, “It’s my responsibility to coach them…of course we want to improve. In this moment, everything is so hard. A club like Manchester United, to lose 3-0 at home, it’s really tough for everybody. And of course the fans are really disappointed and tired.”

“You can feel it in the stadium in the first play and I understand that, but we have to face it. We know what to do.”

He further stated about defending set pieces, “We have to improve set pieces. I think we are not giving the ball away as much as we do, we control better the game, we don’t concede a lot of spaces, transitions we control very well against one team that’s 60% of the goals they score when the ball is in our half.”

“We managed to do that but then in the set pieces, one penalty and that moment where we have to forget the context, everything, keep the ball for a moment and not try and score two goals right away.”

“It’s a really tough moment and we have to understand what the players are thinking at that moment when you suffer a 2-0,  when you make a penalty, when the box is controlled, we have to address that. It’s really tough for everybody to lose these types of games.”

United are back in action on Boxing Day when they travel to Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, who beat Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City 3-0 earlier today.

“The players need to understand…”: Amorim issues passionate plea to his stars over key change they must make

            “the-players-need-to-understand…”:-amorim-issues-passionate-plea-to-his-stars-over-key-change-they-must-make

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has urged his players to remain calm in the immediate aftermath of conceding a goal.

Amorim issued this plea after United suffered a devastating 3-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth.

Dean Huijsen’s header gave the Cherries a first-half lead as United let in a goal from yet another set-piece routine.

Noussair Mazraoui gave away a penalty early in the second half after a foul on Justin Kluivert. Kluivert made no mistake from the spot-kick, sending Andre Onana the wrong way to make it 2-0 to the visitors.

Two minutes later, Antoine Semenyo added another to all but seal the victory for Bournemouth.

After the final whistle, Amorim spoke to BBC Match of the Day and called on his players to be more calm and relaxed whenever things are not going their way.

The Portuguese coach said, “It’s really hard especially if you saw the game. We concede one foul and then a goal. We were winning second balls and creating chances.”

“We conceded a penalty and then the third goal. It was really hard for the fans. We have to go again next game.”

“We have a lot of situations where they managed to score a little bit similar to Tottenham. It’s really hard on everyone in the stadium. We have to fight this moment.”

“We have to maintain the calm when you suffer a goal. It was similar in the last match. The players need to understand the game has different moments.”

He added, “I always expected [job to be tough], especially in these busy months. We are ready to face the challenge.”

For a third consecutive match, Marcus Rashford was excluded from the squad.

When asked whether Rashford will feature in the next game, Amorim replied, “It depends, we will see.”

Top Man Utd target ‘says no to Ruben Amorim’ and ‘chooses next destination’

              top-man-utd-target-‘says-no-to-ruben-amorim’-and-‘chooses-next-destination’

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres has told Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim that he doesn’t want to move to Old Trafford in the summer, according to reports.

The Red Devils have struggled to score Premier League goals this season with Man Utd scoring just 21 goals in 16 matches before their match against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Man Utd are currently 13th in the Premier League table with only Everton, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Ipswich Town scoring fewer goals ahead of Sunday’s fixtures.

Marcus Rashford, Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund have all been criticised at times for the lack of goals this season and Amorim is looking to improve their record.

His efforts could be helped by rumours Rashford, who was not named in the Man Utd squad to face Bournemouth on Sunday for the third matchday, with the England international admitting that he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

Any money raised from getting Rashford off their books could be used to help Amorim bring in a new centre-forward over the next couple of transfer windows.

Unsurprisingly, Man Utd have been heavily linked to Gyokeres since Sporting CP’s former manager Amorim joined the Red Devils as head coach in November.

But reports in Spain now claim that the Sweden international ‘says no to Amorim’ and ‘chooses his next destination for next season’.

After Amorim replaced Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, ‘everything pointed’ to Gyokeres following his former manager to Man Utd next summer.

However, ‘sources close to the player’s entourage assure that his preference is to wear the Barca shirt’ as Gyokeres ‘prefers’ a move to the Camp Nou over Old Trafford.

Man Utd ‘had hoped that the relationship between Gyökeres and Amorim would be decisive in attracting the Swede to the Premier League , but it seems that the emotional factor and the historical weight of Barça have tipped the balance’.

Gyokeres’ entourage have made it ‘clear that he is willing to join’ Barcelona and now ‘the ball is in the court of the Blaugrana board, who must decide whether to make a strong commitment to one of the most promising offensive players in European football.’

Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker reckons the Red Devils would pull off “one of the best possible signings” if they end up getting a deal for Gyokeres over the line.

Parker told BonusCodeBets.co.uk: “I think it would be amazing if Man United can sign Gyokeres. In my opinion, it would be one of the best possible signings and maybe one of the best signings in recent times in the Premier League.”

“He knows how Amorim wants to play and vice versa. He would be the perfect addition, and also add some competition to Højlund who really needs it, because he hasn’t shown enough yet.”

“Gyokeres would be a top striker in the Premier League.”

Manchester United suffered a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

Dean Huijsen broke the deadlock in the 29th minute, as he rose high to head in a free-kick delivery. Justin Kluivert went on to double the visitors’ advantage from the penalty spot, moments after the break. Kluivert won the penalty after he was brought down inside the box by Noussair Mazraoui.

Two minutes after they went two goals up, Bournemouth added a third through Antoine Semenyo, who got on the end of a cutback from Dango Ouattara and beat Andre Onana from close range.

It was a disappointing occasion for United, who remain in 13th place in the Premier League standings with 22 points gained from a possible 51.

For the first time in Premier League history, United are set to be in the bottom half of the table on Christmas Day.

Amad Diallo is one of the few United players who can truly hold their heads high. The Ivorian has been in exceptional form, and against Bournemouth, it seemed like every positive moment for United stemmed from his influence.

During the time he was on the pitch, Amad registered three shots.

He created an impressive four chances and successfully connected with four of the crosses he made. He touched the ball five times inside Bournemouth’s penalty area.

The forward made eight ball recoveries.

He won 100% of the tackles he put in and registered an individual pass accuracy of 88%.

Amad’s game by numbers vs. Bournemouth:

                100% tackles won
                88% pass accuracy
                8 ball recoveries
5 touches in the penalty area
                4 crosses completed
                4 chances created

The 22-year-old  continues to prove himself under Ruben Amorim and even though United were on the losing side today, there are still one or two positives to take from his performance.

“We have to suffer again”: Amorim explains why United couldn’t score in limp defeat to Bournemouth

                  “we-have-to-suffer-again”:-amorim-explains-why-united-couldn’t-score-in-limp-defeat-to-bournemouth

Ruben Amorim says Manchester United “have to suffer again” but will keep trying to win “until the end” after a disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Bournemouth.

The Cherries ran riot to pile on the misery for the Portuguese manager, making it two defeats in a week and bringing the positivity from last weekend’s thrilling Manchester derby win to a juddering halt.

Dean Huijsen put the visitors ahead before half-time as United fell to yet another set piece. Justin Kluivert converted from the spot just after the hour, and two minutes later Antoine Semenyo scored a third to put the match beyond doubt.

Amorim pinpointed his team’s nerves as a problem, telling Sky Sports after the match: “This game was hard on us. We suffered again on set-pieces and we were a bit nervous, I felt it in the stadium.

“The penalty and another goal are really hard here. We tried to score some goals but it was a tough match so let’s move on.”

United’s head coach saw some positives, with his side mustering 23 shots during the game but unable to convert a single one. “If you look at the game, we were not conceding anything before the first goal, we had opportunities,” he said.

“If we manage to score the first goal, then the game should be different. We want to score but we are too nervous. We have to fight this.”

Bournemouth’s quickfire second-half goals were a sucker punch from which United could not recover, and Amorim acknowledged that this was a crucial moment in the match.

“After the penalty, we need to control the game better because we know this situation is really hard,” he said. “We have to control better this moment.”

United go into Christmas in the bottom half of the table, and face matches against a resurgent Wolverhampton Wanderers and in-form Newcastle United before a trip to Anfield in the new year.

Amorim issued a rallying cry for fans, and reiterated that there is no shortcut to getting the club back to the top. “We have to focus on the job and not what you feel in the stadium,” he said.

“It’s the only way I know how to focus my players. We have to suffer again but we will try to win. We will do it until the end.”

                    “angry”-united-star-rues-costly-mistake-that-killed-the-team-in-embarrassing-loss-to-bournemouth

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has pinpointed his side’s weakness from set-pieces as the primary reason behind their loss against Bournemouth.

United fell to a 3-0 defeat at the hands of the Cherries on Sunday afternoon at Old Trafford.

Dean Huijsen broke the deadlock just before the half-hour mark, as he headed in a free-kick delivery. Justin Kluivert doubled Bournemouth’s advantage 11 minutes after the break from the spot-kick. The referee awarded the hosts the penalty after Noussair Mazraoui brought down Kluivert inside the box.

Moments after they went 2-0 up, Antoine Semenyo put the game to bed, getting on the end of a cutback to ensure there was no chance of the Red Devils mounting a comeback.

The result has left Ruben Amorim’s men in 13th position in the Premier League, with just 22 points to their name.

For the first time in their Premier League history, United will be in the bottom half of the table on Christmas Day.

After the final whistle, Martinez spoke to BBC Match of the Day and said about the performance and result, “I always say in this kind of situation we have to show personality and character.”

“We are playing so well and unfortunately, we couldn’t score today. We have to believe. At this club, we have to win every game and we know that.”

“We are so angry with this kind of situation. We have to work on set-pieces especially. I believe a lot in this team and staff. if they don’t score their first goal from set-pieces then it is a totally different game.”

“We missed many chances today. We have to score. We know what we have to do and we have to change quickly.”

“We know how big it is at this club. The expectation is very high, it’s a process and you can see we are playing so well but we also concede goals and we have to work on that.”

The Argentina international added, “I know the fans are impatient with us. We are the only ones who can change it.”

“It’s football and we have to accept it. We are 100% confident that we will get success in this club. It’s a process, I don’t want to point the finger at one player. We win together, we lose together. It is a big pressure but we love that. I believe a lot in this group.”

United are back in action on Boxing Day when the travel to Molineux Stadium to face Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Man Utd 0-3 Bournemouth: Amorim can’t halt Old Trafford mess as Iraola’s men run riot

Man Utd capitulated in the second half as Bournemouth inflicted another defeat on the Red Devils as their miserable season continues.

The Red Devils went behind when Bournemouth teenager Dean Huijsen opened the scoring with the Spain Under-21 international glancing a set-piece beyond Andre Onana and into the Man Utd net.

Noussair Mazraoui then gave away a nailed on penalty early in the second half by bringing down Justin Kluivert in the area.

Bournemouth forward Kluivert then stepped up to send Onana the wrong way to double the Cherries lead at Old Trafford on 61 minutes.

And Man Utd capitulated by conceding another just two minutes later with Dango Ouattara picking out Antoine Semenyo inside the Red Devils’ box and the Ghana international kept his composure to finish past Onana.

It is Ruben Amorim’s fourth defeat since taking charge of Man Utd in mid-November with the Red Devils remaining in 13th position in the Premier League table.

Man Utd have now lost seven of their 17 Premier League matches this season and only scored 21 goals with Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich Town and Southampton the only clubs to score fewer this term.

Former Man City and Sheffield Utd midfielder Michael Brown has told Man Utd boss Amorim – who left out Marcus Rashford again – to “stop making so many changes” if he wants to find consistency.

Brown said on BBC Radio 5 Live: “What an afternoon of football at Old Trafford. We knew Man Utd would be up against this Bournemouth side who are full of confidence.

“Man Utd contributed with chances, but didn’t have the quality. It could have been more and what a performance from Bournemouth overall.

“We have seen Ruud van Nistelrooy get some results [under his interim tenure], but you cannot not just turn it around quickly – it is going to take time here.

“Ruben Amorim has to stop making so many changes, he needs to find a system in a settled way.

“This is a big blow, this performance at this stage of the season has put a major negative effect back on something what was starting to look good under the new manager.”
