Man Utd ‘plan to spend £150m’ on three signings in the January transfer window

INEOS will release the funds for Man Utd to spend £150m on three players in the January transfer window, according to reports.

The Red Devils are struggling in the Premier League this season with their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday their seventh in 17 league matches this term.

Man Utd sacked Erik ten Hag at the end of October and replaced him with Ruben Amorim in November but there has been little difference in results since.

Amorim picked up an impressive 2-1 win over arch-rivals Man City in the Premier League eight days ago but the Red Devils then lost 4-3 to Tottenham in the Carabao Cup in midweek before their defeat to Bournemouth yesterday.

There is a lot of work to be done before Amorim can get his Man Utd side playing to his style and philosophy with INEOS now reportedly conceding that they will have to spend in the January transfer window.

That could be helped by Marcus Rashford with the England international making it clear last week that he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford and Amorim has left him out of the last three matchday squads.

If they can offload Rashford for a fee it will count as pure profit towards the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and would give them flexibility in the winter market.

And now Spanish publication Fichajes insist that Man Utd ‘plan to spend €180m (£150m) on three signings during the winter transfer window’.

INEOS ‘are willing to make a strong investment’ in the January transfer market and the ‘club has identified three key players who could be fundamental pieces for their future project, and are prepared to negotiate with their respective teams to close these signings’.

Southampton starlet Tyler Dibling is the first name on their list with the Saints asking for €35m for the 18-year-old and Man Utd ‘would be willing to pay to add a player with great potential’.

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres is another one of their ‘big targets’ in January with the Swede having a ‘starting price’ of €75m but the Red Devils are ‘willing to make the financial effort to secure a quality goalscorer to reinforce their attack and bring offensive versatility to the team’.

Man Utd have also ‘set their sights’ on Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel and the Premier League club are ready ‘to invest’ €70m to bring the Swiss stopper to Old Trafford.

A total of €180m (£150m) has been ‘allocated to these three operations’ with Man Utd ‘ready to make a strong bet in the winter market to ensure a successful future’.

      owen-slams-‘stupid’-man-utd-star-in-bournemouth-loss-as-he-urges-amorim-to-get-‘brutal’

Former Man Utd striker Michael Owen insists the Red Devils are just “not a good team” and urges Ruben Amorim to get “brutal” after their 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

The Red Devils went behind after 29 minutes when Spain Under-21 international Dean Huijsen glanced a header past Andre Onana to put Bournemouth ahead.

And then Man Utd capitulated in two second half minutes with Justin Kluivert scoring from the penalty spot before Antoine Semenyo added a third for the Cherries.

It was the Red Devils’ seventh defeat in 17 Premier League matches and Amorim’s men remain 13th in the Premier League table.

Amorim is struggling to find consistency in performances and results, much like his recent predecessors, with Man Utd co-owners INEOS weighing up whether to back the Portuguese head coach in January or wait until the summer.

Noussair Mazroaui, who has been one of the more successful summer signings at Old Trafford this season, gave away the penalty and former striker Owen criticised the Man Utd defender and the team.

Owen told Premier League Productions: “You’re being kind. A little rash? A little stupid more like.

“What on earth are you doing? Two players are waiting for him, he’s not going to score from there and he dives in.

“Just stay on your feet and usher him away. It’s just a poor, poor decision.

“The sad thing from Manchester United these days is they go 1-0 down and you never really think they’re going to come back.

“They’re not a good team. Ruben Amorim needs to be watching that game and ensure these players that are not performing do not put on the shirt again. He needs to be that brutal and that ruthless.”

Man Utd boss Amorim was careful not to be too critical of his players after the defeat to Bournemouth and focused on the positives at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Amorim said: “It’s really hard especially if you saw the game. We concede one foul and then a goal.

“We were winning second balls and creating chances. We conceded a penalty and then the third goal. It was really hard for the fans. We have to go again next game.

“We have a lot of situations where they managed to score a little bit similar to Tottenham. It’s really hard on everyone in the stadium. We have to fight this moment.

“We have to maintain the calm when you suffer a goal. It was similar in the last match. The players need to understand the game has different moments.

“I always expected [job to be tough], especially in these busy months. We are ready to face the challenge.”

Manchester United fullback Tyrell Malacia endured a horror show of a performance as he was hooked at half-time yet again in an embarrassing 3-0 home loss to AFC Bournemouth yesterday.

The Dutch full back had been out of action since May 2023 until he finally made a long-awaited return to face Bodo-Glimt in the Europa League under Ruben Amorim.

Despite the victory in that match, Malacia struggled and was to blame for one of the goals as he was easily overpowered and out-paced by the Norwegian side’s goalscorer.

He has since made a shock return to the starting line up against Arsenal and Viktoria Plzen where he played 61 minutes of action.

Yesterday however was his worst showing and The Peoples Person has commented that he perhaps showed why he is not good enough for the Premier League, never mind Manchester United.

Malacia clumsily gave away the free kick which resulted in Dean Huijsen’s opening goal of the game.

He also only won one of his five duels and lost the ball seven times despite only touching it on 34 occasions.

As a result of his performance, he was taken off at half-time by Amorim and replaced by Leny Yoro.

It seems harsh to judge Malacia so much after he was out with such a serious injury and his bravery to come back and play at the highest level must be applauded on a human basis.

Nonetheless, United are in such a mess that they cannot afford to carry passengers.

To be fair to Malacia, he is only one of a number of players who are not good enough to play for the football club and at least he has the excuse of coming back from serious injury.

However, with Ruben Amorim’s system so dependent on attacking wing backs to function properly, United are so poorly underprepared as Luke Shaw continues to be out and Malacia just cannot do what the Portuguese coach requires him to do.

United have already signed Paraguayan left back Diego Leon for next season, but at 17 years old coming from the Paraguayan league, he is a project for the future.

If the Red Devils are to salvage anything from this season they need to invest in a proper left wing back this January such as Alvaro Fernandez or Milos Kerkez and stop the experiment of trying to resurrect Malacia’s career at Old Trafford.

From the 25 year old’s perspective, he is clearly a decent footballer who can have a successful career somewhere and most fans will hope he finds it. It just can’t be at United if they want to be the club that Ineos claims they are trying to build.

Amad Diallo is set to sign a new contract with Manchester United within the next few days according to a new report.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the winger is set to extend his stay at Old Trafford, potentially before the end of the year.

“I’m not expecting there to be any issues; they’re making good progress in talks,” Brown commented.

“The things that are still left to agree should be a formality, I think. From what I’m hearing, they’re confident that an agreement will be reached soon because it’s one everybody involved wants to get over the line.”

“It could even be done before the January window opens if all goes to plan,” Brown concluded.

According to the former United chief scout, manager Ruben Amorim appears to be impressed with Amad’s strong performances this season.

“He’s always getting at the opposition full-back, he’s running in behind and forcing United further up the park, and he’s getting better all the time,” Brown observed.

Amad has proven to be one of United’s most consistent performers this season, with five goals and eight assists in 25 matches across all competitions this season.

Over the past 365 days, Amad has produced 0.37 assists per game, landing in the 90th percentile of all players in his position across the top five European leagues as well as the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. He also landed in the 97th percentile in tackling for 2.27 tackles per game, showing his ability to track back and fill in at wing-back if necessary. (FBref)

Interestingly, former United coach Benni McCarthy explained why Erik ten Hag never favoured Amad. He explained that the former United manager viewed Antony as the best player for the role due to his past working experience with the winger at Ajax.

Furthermore, Alejandro Garnacho was in fine form while Marcus Rashford was a high-profile pick, meaning that Amad essentially had a very narrow pathway to amassing playing time.

Fortunately, Amorim has not allowed previous sentiments to persist, instead deciding for himself who his best players are. With Amad proving himself time and again, his expected decision to sign a new contract will be warmly received by the United faithful.

Manchester United’s newest addition Diego Leon has spoken of his pride of joining the club.

The 17 year old Paraguayan is yet to be officially announced but his transfer has been given the famous “here we go” by journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The youngster has reportedly signed all the documents that make him a United player, even if it has not been officially announced by the club.

The deal will see the young defender remain at Cerro Porteño until the summer, when he will have turned 18 years old.

ESPN journalist Roberto Rojas has posted videos on his X account of Leon being given a hero’s welcome in his small hometown village of Juan Emilio O’Leary in Paraguay.

In the video he can be seen embracing friends and relatives as there is clearly a festive mood over his transfer to the Premier League.

In his native town of O’Leary, a celebration was made for Paraguayan left-back Diego Léon after he signed his Manchester United contract.

There is also another video which shows Leon addressing the crowds that have come to celebrate his massive achievement in sealing a move to one of the most famous football clubs in the world.

“Thank you all for the welcome, it was really nice. I can’t thank you enough, you surprised me so much that I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.”

The youngster will most likely be given the chance to work his way up to first team action by playing in the under 18s and 21s.

He joins exciting youngsters like Chido Obi and Sekou Kone who have joined United recently.

His side will next be in action on the 27th of January when they take on Libertad in the league and United fans will surely take great interest in how the exciting youngster progresses ahead of his big move to Old Trafford in the summer.

Man Utd: Romano makes transfer ‘guarantee’ over ‘most intense’ £46m star perfect for Amorim

              man-utd:-romano-makes-transfer-‘guarantee’-over-‘most-intense’-46m-star-perfect-for-amorim

Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on reports linking Manchester United with a move for Atalanta star Ederson ahead of the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim is keen to add to his squad in January after the Red Devils fell to their fourth defeat of his tenure against Bournemouth on Sunday.

Goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo secured a comfortable 3-0 win for the visitors with the task at hand for Amorim growing ever clearer.

Reports suggest he won’t have a big pot of money to spend in the January transfer window, though finding a buyer for Marcus Rashford – who announced his desire to find a “new challenge” last week – would allow him to dip into the market.

One player they’ve been heavily linked with is Brazilian midfielder Ederson, who’s been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time as he continues to impress for Serie A table-toppers Atalanta.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg claimed last week that United are ‘seriously considering’ a move for the 25-year-old, but club chiefs are clashing over a possible deal.

Plettenberg explained: “Once again been told that #Ederson is one of the few names Manchester United are seriously considering for the central midfield position

“Some decision-makers are fully convinced of his abilities. However, there is not yet a complete consensus within the club. For this reason, there are no concrete negotiations at this stage.

“But #MUFC have gathered all the necessary information and have scouted him multiple times. Contract with Atalanta until 2027. Price valuation. €50-60m (a maximum of around £46m).”

And now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Red Devils’ interest, insisting that Ederson is a player Amorim will be keen on having at his disposal as “one of the most intense midfielders around Europe”.

He said: “I can guarantee to you that several clubs around Europe are monitoring Ederson, Man Utd are one of them. For sure, Man Utd like the player.

“Ruben Amorim wants intensity and when you think of intensity, Ederson is probably one of the most intense midfielders around Europe.

“He’s running for three players, top, top player. January transfer window will be really complicated but the feeling is that Ederson could leave in the summer. United have sent their scouts several times to scout Ederson. He has many fans around Europe.”

“In the past, there have been times where you can be kidded into thinking you have got a better group of players, because of decent results and moving up the league. But they are a mile away in every single way.

“Playing the way Amorim wants to play, with the 3-4-3, he’s going to have to change it. He’s given everyone a try by rotating the team and I do not think there will be many he’s watched and thought, ‘yes, I want you on the bus’.

Gary Neville has picked out a “massive positive” for Ruben Amorim in the Manchester United “ugly parade” after defeat to Bournemouth on Sunday.

After a dramatic comeback win over Manchester City last time out in the Premier League, Amorim’s side produced a dismal display as goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo secured a comfortable 3-0 win for the visitors.

Amorim has now won four, drawn one and lost four in a brief United tenure in which the task at hand has been made clear.

The Portuguese boss has rotated his team significantly in that time and Neville picked that out as a “massive positive” for Amorim going forwards, as he’s now aware that the players he has at his disposal are simply “not good enough”.

Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, Neville said: “I think it’s a massive positive that Ruben Amorim is seeing what he’s got.

“In the past, there have been times where you can be kidded into thinking you have got a better group of players, because of decent results and moving up the league. But they are a mile away in every single way.

Speaking after the game on Sunday, Amorim himself admitted that everyone at United are “suffering” and are “tired” of losing.

“In this moment, everything is so hard,” said Amorim. “For a club like Manchester United to lose 3-0 at home, it’s really tough for everybody.

“The fans are really disappointed and tired. You can feel it in the stadium in the first play. I understand that, but we have to face it. I felt it since the first minute, there’s a lot of anxiety.

                  video:-“a-massive-positive”:-gary-neville-gives-shock-verdict-on-bournemouth-bludgeoning

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has hammered the current state of his old club and the players who represent it.

Speaking to Sky Sports after another horror show of a performance as they were dismantled 3-0 by AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford for a second season in a row, he lambasted what had become of the club.

United will now spend Christmas in the bottom half of the Premier League for the first time ever.

Neville was bullish when asked about the game and surprisingly commented, “I think it’s a massive positive that Ruben Amorim is seeing what he’s got.”

“In the past, there have been times where you can be kidded into thinking you have got a better group of players, because of decent results and moving up the league. But they are a mile away in every single way.”

Neville then claimed that he believes that Amorim will have to make some tactical adjustments to his favoured 3-4-3 formation.

“He’s given everyone a try by rotating the team and I do not think there will be many he’s watched and thought, ‘yes, I want you on the bus’.”

“They are all very mediocre, and I don’t know how it’s happened – they are better than what they are showing, let’s be clear. But it’s a pattern.”

The former United man did praise the Cherries for their fantastic work but really focused on the fact that Amorim “can look at these players in the cold light of day.”

He spoke of the need for a “cultural overhaul” at the club and they are experiencing a really “torrid time”.

Neville laid into the current group of players claiming that there is not a great deal to like about how they perform or play the game.

“They are not good enough to play for Manchester United, because this club aims to be at the top. It’s quite clear.”

With things so clearly going wrong at the club, all eyes will be on what they try and do in the January window to salvage what they can of a horrendous season to date.

Manchester United’s on loan winger Jadon Sancho had a good afternoon for Chelsea as they were held to a goaless draw at Goodison Park with Everton.

The Blues have been in top form as of late and find themselves second in the Premier League table.

Sancho has been a big part of this recent success, scoring twice in the month of December against both Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur.

The English winger played all 90 minutes in Liverpool yesterday afternoon, receiving a rating of 7.3 from Sofascore.

He had 64 touches of the ball as he started on the left wing and his side dominated the ball with 75% possession in the match.

Sancho was careful in his passing as he made 30 out of 35 attempts for a passing accuracy of 86%.

He did have one key pass in the game but it could not produce the opening goal that the away end craved to keep in touch with leaders Liverpool.

Sancho made three crosses from the wing but none were able to find their intended target.

The former Borussia Dortmund man also failed to complete any long passes on a quiet afternoon of action in front of goal.

He also failed to have any shots on or off target but did have an effort blocked.

The 24 year old did attempt 12 dribbles, successfully completing six of them.

Surprisingly, it was defensively where the winger shone, as he won 12 out of 20 ground duels and completed one tackle.

Sancho’s defensive effort will please Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca as he is hardly known for it and perhaps is showing his growth as a player.

He will next be in action for Chelsea on Boxing Day when they host local rivals Fulham at Stamford Bridge in what promises to be a Christmas cracker.

Ruben Amorim admits “everything is so hard” at Man Utd right now after they were defeated 3-0 by Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Cherries scored through Spain Under-21 international Dean Huijsen in the first half before two goals in two minutes from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo secured the points for Andoni Iraola’s side.

Man Utd have now lost seven of their 17 Premier League fixtures this season with the Red Devils currently 13th in the league standings.

Amorim, like many managers before him, to get Man Utd to be consistent in their performances and results with the Portuguese head coach winning four, losing four and drawing one of his first nine matches in charge in all competitions.

And Amorim has revealed that “everything is so hard” at Man Utd at the moment with everybody “so anxious” that things will go wrong.

Amorim told reporters after the match against Bournemouth: “In this moment, everything is so hard. At a club like Manchester United, to lose 3-0 at home, it’s really tough for everybody.

“Of course the fans are really disappointed and tired. You can feel it in the stadium in the first play. At the first goal-kick with Andre Onana, he’s thinking what to do and pushing the other guys and everybody is so anxious.

“I understand that, but we have to face it.”

Man Utd have now conceded 17 goals from set-pieces in the Premier League in 2024 but Amorim is refusing to blame set piece coach Carlos Fernandes.

Amorim added: “The responsibility is on me, not Carlos.

“We are a team in good moments and bad moments. We have a way of doing things. We are working on that and we are going to improve on that. But we didn’t lose because of set pieces. We lost because we create more chances and didn’t score.”

Lisandro Martinez, who hasn’t covered himself in glory over the last few weeks, insists the Man Utd players are “angry” about conceding so many set piece goals.

Martinez said: “We are so angry with this kind of situation. We have to work on set-pieces especially.

“I believe a lot in this team and staff. If they don’t score their first goal from a set-piece then it is a totally different game.”

Amorim insists “nothing bad lasts forever” as he calls on his Man Utd side to brave in their ideas going forward.

The Man Utd boss continued: “It’s so much easier to pass on an idea when you’re winning and you’re scoring and you’re not conceding. But it’s also a great privilege to be here, so we have to continue now.

“Nothing bad lasts forever and nothing good lasts forever, so we have to continue again and be very strong in our ideas, especially in the bad moments. We will do it and try to win the next game.”
