United’s in-form sensation aiming to break team’s recent curse against Bournemouth today

    united’s-in-form-sensation-aiming-to-break-team’s-recent-curse-against-bournemouth-today

Manchester United take on AFC Bournemouth today, aiming for their second Premier League win in a row after last weekend’s derby success.

The Red Devils have only played against the Cherries 22 times, winning 14, drawing four and losing four times.

United will also be looking to recover from a crazy, error-strewn performance which saw them lose 4-3 to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

It will be no easy task however as only Liverpool, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have earned more points across the past 10 matches than Bournemouth’s 17.

Here are three storylines to whet the appetite.

United seeking revenge for last season

The Red Devils also played Bournemouth at Old Trafford in December last season but they will be looking for a very different outcome.

They were taken apart 3-0 by the visitors with Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi finding the back of the net.

United also could count themselves rather lucky to pick up one point last April when they escaped the Vitality Stadium with a 2-2 draw.

The Cherries have only won three out of 14 league games between the two sides however as United have dominated the fixture historically. They did lose the first Premier League game between the two sides back in the 2015/2016 season, however.

Bruno Fernandes will want to keep up top form

Bruno Fernandes started the season poorly for his standards but has roared back into life since the dismissal of Erik ten Hag.

According to the BBC, “Bruno Fernandes has scored four goals and assisted three in seven Premier League appearances since Erik ten Hag was sacked.”

He recently scored in the win at City which brought his side level and provided an assist for Joshua Zirkzee on Thursday night at Spurs.

All in all, he has six goals and 10 assists in all competitions as he has proven his worth to the team once more and he will be desperate to lead his side to an all-important victory against Bournemouth to give his fans some Christmas cheer.

Amad Diallo will aim to maintain his hot streak

Amad has been United’s standout man since Ten Hag left the club.

The Ivorian has provided “a league-high five assists since the start of November” and has been a thorn in the side of any team he has come up against.

He won the penalty against City last time out and scored a wonderful goal to give his side a win that will last long in the memory.

He had to make do with a place on the bench against Spurs but his incredible pressing led to a goal and he also provided an assist for Jonny Evans to head in United’s third.

To highlight his importance, no Manchester United player has produced more goals or assists at a better rate than Amad Diallo this season with the Ivorian international returning a contribution every 111 minutes.

United eyeing blockbuster move for former Real Madrid CL winner who is tearing up Serie A – report

      united-eyeing-blockbuster-move-for-former-real-madrid-cl-winner-who-is-tearing-up-serie-a-–-report

Manchester United are in need of creativity up front especially considering the uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford’s future.

The Mancunian has revealed that he is open to leaving his boyhood club with Ruben Amorim’s system more reliant on No 10s than out-and-out wingers.

A report in Tuttosport (via FC Inter News) has revealed that Como’s teenage sensation Nico Paz is of interest to the Red Devils following his fantastic start to life in Italy under Cesc Fabregas.

The Argentine has two goals, including one in stoppage time in a recent win over Roma, and four assists from 12 starts in Serie A and his impressive form has also caught the attention of Inter Milan and Arsenal as well.

      Paz in demand

The 20-year-old can play in midfield, up front and out wide and his left-footed profile makes him an even more attractive proposition. The midfielder has impressed Lionel Messi no less which shows how highly-rated he is.

However, Real Madrid hold all the aces as they have a €12 million buyback option but are unlikely to trigger it anytime soon, which hands his suitors a potential chance to land him soon.

The young midfielder had joined the Serie A side on a permanent basis for €6 million last summer with Real would receive 50% of any future transfer fee for Paz.

Inter seem to be in the lead as per the report “after the numerous and excellent reports already drawn up in recent weeks by Nerazzurri observers”.

      Inter in the lead

Javier Zanetti, the Nerazzurri vice president, is keen to land his compatriot having been very impressed with what he has seen from him.

Paz, a former Champions League winner with Real, is eager to test himself at a bigger club and thus, “could be favorable to the possibility of continuing to play in Italy, making the leap from an ambitious reality like Como to that of a top club like Inter,” the report added.

INEOS have made it a mission to sign the most promising young talents from across the globe instead of focusing on big-name stars and the Argentina international certainly fits the bill.

Whether they can get ahead of Inter in the race remains to be seen. The player’s current market value stands at €20 million with Como likely to ask for a lot more given Real’s 50% sell-on clause.

“You can’t be so focused on…”: De Ligt sends message to Yoro over what he needs to do to become truly unstoppable

        “you-can’t-be-so-focused-on…”:-de-ligt-sends-message-to-yoro-over-what-he-needs-to-do-to-become-truly-unstoppable

Manchester United defender Matthijs de Ligt has advised his younger teammate Leny Yoro to prioritise the mental side of his game to fully unlock his remarkable potential.

Like De Ligt, Yoro also joined United in the summer. He arrived at Old Trafford from Ligue 1 outfit LOSC Lille.

However, his start to life at United was hindered after he picked up an injury in pre-season that required surgery. Yoro recently returned to action, making his competitive debut in the Premier League defeat to Arsenal at the Emirates.

Yoro has shown very promising signs of the player he can develop into. During the Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday, he performed well despite the team conceding four goals.

De Ligt, who has already partnered Yoro in Ruben Amorim’s three-man defence, spoke to club media and insisted that the Frenchman has all the tools necessary to become a top-level player.

“I think he’s a really great talent,” De Ligt said. “He has a lot of the tools to become a really good modern defender. He’s fast, good with the ball, quick, tall, good in headers.”

“He’s now back from injury and I think it’s really important for the team to get lots of options because the schedule is hectic, so we have to use everybody. It’s really nice that he’s here and hopefully I can help him with some experience that I had at his age, because I also had this experience at this age.”

“I really want to help him become as good as possible, because I think he has a lot of potential.”

When asked what advice he has been giving to Yoro, De Ligt replied, “He has all the tools to become an amazing defender, [so] I think it’s mental.”

“What I would give to him as advice is to always stay close to himself and to try to learn. That’s really important for a young player. You can’t be so focused on winning that you’re not improving as a player anymore.”

De Ligt added, “I think with this trainer [Ruben Amorim], he gives a lot of attention to that. He gives young guys chances, but also sometimes pushes them a little bit back to let them improve in training.”

“I think he’s in a really good place with a really good staff to improve in the best way.”

United return to action on Sunday when they host Bournemouth at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 14:00 GMT.

Amorim shows his ruthless side, wants United star who has let the team down gone in January – Fabrizio Romano

          amorim-shows-his-ruthless-side,-wants-united-star-who-has-let-the-team-down-gone-in-january-–-fabrizio-romano

Manchester United crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the quarter-final stage after a heartbreaking 3-4 loss at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.

Ruben Amorim was guilty of making too changes on the night with backup keeper Altay Bayindir responsible for two huge errors which ultimately cost his team the tie.

It was the Turkish star’s first start under the Portuguese and he would have liked to have made a better impression on the night.

But his poor clearance for the hosts’ opening strike and his weak jump for Spurs’ winner were poor to say the least even though Spurs’ fourth goal was a contentious issue.

          Bayindir was poor vs Spurs

With Andre Onana also committing a few errors recently, the former Fenerbahce star had the chance to stake his claim as a starter if he had managed to put in a good shift. However, it was anything but.

Amorim had refused to blame his goalkeeper but transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has now claimed on Givemesport that Amorim has decided to put the Turkiye international up for sale in January.

United are open to an exit should they receive a substantial bid. “Bayindir could leave in case Man United receive an important proposal for the Turkish goalkeeper,” Romano wrote, highlighting how ruthless the Portuguese tactician can be.

The 26-year-old shot-stopper has managed only four appearances since his €5 million move to Manchester in 2023 with former boss Erik ten Hag not his biggest fan.

Amorim wants Bayindir gone in January

Bayindir has been linked with a move to Hull City as well as Celtic, not to mention with clubs back home and it seems his time at Old Trafford is drawing to a disappointing conclusion.

He has a current market value of €10 million according to Transfermarkt and INEOS would do well to earn as much from his sale in the winter.

Amorim has not been impressed with the club’s options in goal and wants increased competition for Onana and should Bayindir leave, the Red Devils could jump for Illan Meslier of Leeds United.

Tom Heaton is also there at the club but Amorim is clearly not convinced with him either and it will be intriguing to see who the club can sign as backup.

CL giants pushing for sensational January move for United star enjoying resurgence in form under Amorim – report

            cl-giants-pushing-for-sensational-january-move-for-united-star-enjoying-resurgence-in-form-under-amorim-–-report

Manchester United will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final when they face high-flying Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday.

Ruben Amorim, who was guilty of making too many changes in midweek, should pick his strongest eleven against the Cherries with Joshua Zirkzee making a strong case for his inclusion from the start.

The Dutchman produced an impressive cameo against Spurs, including scoring a goal in the second half, and was by far more dangerous than the ineffective Rasmus Hojlund.

After a tough start to life in Manchester, which included only one goal from 18 games back when Erik ten Hag was in charge, the former Bologna ace now has three goals in December under the Portuguese.

            Zirkzee resurgence

The 23-year-old has been linked with an exit with his agent expected to have a talk with the club hierarchy regarding his client’s future with Juventus keen on a move.

Thiago Motta, formerly of Bologna, is now in charge of the Turin outfit and as per Sportmediaset (via Tutto Juve), he wants his former protege to join him at the Juventus Stadium in January.

The Bianconeri are struggling is sixth place in Serie A and are looking for more firepower upfront and the United summer signing fits the bill.

“Joshua Zirkzee, a 2001-born striker for Manchester United and the Dutch national team, continues to be among Juventus’ favourites to strengthen their attack in January.

Motta wants Juve to sign Zirkzee

“According to “Sportmediaset”, the operation would be sponsored in particular by Thiago Motta: the Juventus coach, in fact, would like to have Zirkzee, already trained in Bologna, back under his command in Turin.

“He is convinced that he can help the team both technically and tactically. We will know more in the next few days, when the market will get into full swing.”

When he was finding chances hard to come by, the striker was mulling over returning to Italy but given his resurgence under Amorim, the player’s mind is likely to have changed.

Zirkzee finally seems to be coming to grips as a United player and there is no way that the 20-time English league champions will sanction an exit so soon into his United career having paid £36.5 million last summer.

United plotting sensational swoop for arch-rivals’ talisman dubbed “the best in the league” – report

              united-plotting-sensational-swoop-for-arch-rivals’-talisman-dubbed-“the-best-in-the-league”-–-report

Thursday’s defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final was a tough pill to swallow considering the fightback from the team in the second half.

Ruben Amorim’s decision to make multiple changes backfired with reserve goalkeeper Altay Bayindir responsible for two of the goal conceded on the night.

The Turk made his first start under the Portuguese and has hardly received minutes since his move to Manchester back in 2023, with former boss Erik ten Hag not his biggest fan.

He has played only four games in red and has hardly set the stage alight when given his chances and has been linked with an exit either in January or at the end of the season.

Amorim wants better competition for Onana

With Andre Onana committing a few mistakes recently, the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss wants stronger competition between the sticks to keep the Cameroonian on his toes.

As per journalist Alan Nixon (on his Patreon), the United head coach has identified Leeds United’s Illan Meslier as a potential option.

The Frenchman has kept 11 clean sheets in the Championship with the Whites second in the Championship, only a point off the top and looking favourites to earn promotion to the English top flight.

The 24-year-old was a target for the Red Devils back when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ten Hag were in charge and his impressive form coupled with his Premier League experience makes him an ideal backup keeper.

              Meslier a target

United’s goalkeeping scout Tony Coton has been closely watching Meslier and has been impressed with what he has seen with Leeds boss Daniel Farke terming him “the best goalkeeper in the league“.

The France U21 international’s experience of playing 107 English top flight games will stand him in good stead at Old Trafford with United keen to take advantage of his contract situation at Leeds.

Meslier’s current deal is valid until 2026 and that could mean a cut-price exit could be on the cards next summer should the goalie not agree a new deal with his current employers.

He has a market value of €18 million as per Transfermarkt, an affordable fee for United but it remains to be seen whether the arch rivals sanction a move to Manchester for their shot-stopper.

United could face legal battle to keep key star as four clubs plot swoop for him – report

                united-could-face-legal-battle-to-keep-key-star-as-four-clubs-plot-swoop-for-him-–-report

Manchester United could reportedly find themselves embroiled in a legal battle to retain Harry Maguire, who is attracting heavy interest from both England and abroad.

Maguire’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season although United have the option of extending his stay by an additional 12 months.

As he enters the final six months of his terms at Old Trafford, the former United captain will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign outfit from 1 January 2025 onwards.

According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, the Red Devils are “facing a dilemma in the negotiations” for Maguire’s proposed new deal. This is because if he agrees to move away, United’s one-year extension clause may be removed, therefore rendering the club powerless in their bid to keep hold of him.

Whitwell notes, “The matter would become complicated legally if the 31-year-old centre-back wants to push through a free transfer, as he is entitled to next summer as matters stand.”

“Ultimately, should United try to activate Maguire’s plus one after he has agreed with another team then FIFA could step in to resolve. Typically, world football’s governing body favours players in such disputes.”

It’s understood that United and Maguire are in talks over a new contract beyond the extra season.

A few days ago, the England international described negotiations as “really positive.” A report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that Ruben Amorim has been left impressed by Maguire and is eager to keep the central defender.

The Athletic name four clubs that are keen on signing Maguire on a free – Napoli, Fenerbahce, Galatasaray and Leicester City.

Napoli are actively seeking defensive reinforcements and have been encouraged by the success of Scott McTominay, who made the switch from United during the summer. Napoli believe Maguire could deliver a similar level of impact.

Fenerbahce boss Jose Mourinho tried to sign Maguire when he was in the United dugout and there is now a possibility the pair could work together at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. Fenerbahce’s league rivals Galatasaray are also keeping tabs on Maguire and his situation.

Leicester gaffer Ruud van Nistelrooy is thought to be an admirer of Maguire and the chance to make a sensational return to the King Power Stadium could carry a special emotional appeal for the defender.

Maguire has made 12 appearances for United across all competitions this season. If he maintains his current trajectory, he could be set for a significant role under Amorim.

                  “the-most-important-thing-is…”:-ten-hag-signing-believes-united-are-in-a-critical-moment-under-amorim

Matthijs de Ligt believes Manchester United are “growing as a team” under Ruben Amorim with the Dutch defender revealing just how “important” the victory over Manchester City last weekend was for the squad’s belief.

Speaking to United Review ahead of Sunday’s match against AFC Bournemouth, De Ligt was keen to stress the value of the win at the Etihad, given the struggles United have faced against their rivals in recent years.

“I read a stat that it’s a long time ago that United won against a top-six team [away] in the last years,” the 25-year-old said.

“So I think to get this belief into the team, into the guys that: ‘Hey, we are United – of course we can win against teams where you normally should win, but we can also win against teams that are, on paper, maybe at the moment a little bit stronger or further in their development.”

De Ligt had played in every single of United’s matches since Amorim’s appointment in November until illness ruled him out of Thursday night’s Carabao Cup quarter final against Tottenham Hotspur.

The match ultimately saw the Red Devils succumb to a disappointing 4-3 defeat, despite an overall positive performance.

The game was characterised by a series of chaotic blunders in defence by both teams, though Amorim will have been privately rueing his Dutch centre-back being side lined as he watched his defenders struggle with the Spurs attack.

It is still the early period of Amorim’s tenure, however. Teething problems are expected, especially given the implementation of his trademark 3-4-3 system – a set-up unfamiliar to many of United’s squad.

Which is why De Ligt believes the win over City will help imbue the dressing room with the confidence that they are on the right path, and results will continue to improve as they learn the new system better.

“I think the most important thing is that we are growing as a team. You feel that [and] I think you see it on the pitch as well,” the Dutch international observes.

“There were some results in the last couple of games that could have been better but the feeling in the group is that we’re growing as a team and we’re starting to understand a bit more the way the trainer wants us to play. I think we also start to understand each other better in the system.

“That’s the most important thing: that you always try to keep growing. If you win games without growing, you will not become the best version of yourself. I think the focus in the first weeks was on growing, then you see the results will slowly come. Hopefully we can build on that and start getting better results.”

Amorim will be hoping his central defender has recovered fully from illness for tomorrow’s game as De Ligt will prove key to this process of “getting better results.”

Fabrizio Romano: Long-term United target is “almost guaranteed” to move in January window

                    fabrizio-romano:-long-term-united-target-is-“almost-guaranteed”-to-move-in-january-window

Long-term Manchester United target Randal Kolo Muani is “almost guaranteed” to leave Paris Saint-Germain in the January transfer window, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils were strongly linked with the French forward in the summer of 2023, with the club ultimately settling on Rasmus Hojlund as their number one target in attack, despite Kolo Muani having many admirers at Old Trafford.

In the same window, PSG then swooped for the 26-year-old, after having been interested in Hojlund themselves, eventually agreeing a £76.4 million deal with Eintracht Frankfurt to bring the Frenchman to the French capital.

However, Kolo Muani has not settled perfectly to life in Paris with only 11 goals in 54 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions. And while has produced an additional seven assists, it’s a level of return which isn’t consummate with the outlay PSG spent to secure his services.

Luis Enrique was appointed to the helm at the Parc de Princes in the same summer the club bought Kolo Muani. Yet the Spanish manager has never warmed to the forward, often leaving him on the bench in favour of Goncalo Ramos, or a false nine system.

Reportedly, Enrique has made it clear to the PSG hierarchy that Kolo Muani is surplus to requirements in his system, and with the French club keen to throw its entire weight behind the manager and his philosophy, they will actively seek to shift the 26-year-old in January.

This leads Romano to conclude it is a “sure” thing that Kolo Munai will leave Paris in the winter window with Enrique continuing to show he “doesn’t count on the French striker anymore.”

🚨⚠️ Kolo Muani’s exit in January is considered sure and almost guaranteed, as Luis Enrique keeps showing he doesn’t count on the French striker anymore.

PSG are open to discuss Randal’s exit on their conditions, same as Milan Skriniar.

                    — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 21, 2024

Tweet: “Kolo Muani’s exit in January is considered sure and almost guaranteed, as Luis Enrique keeps showing he doesn’t count on the French striker anymore.

PSG are open to discuss Randal’s exit on their conditions, same as Milan Skriniar.”

The Italian transfer guru reveals PSG are “open discuss [Kolo Muani’s] exit on their conditions”.  A loan move is the most likely deal, though the French club will be keen for a purchase option, or perhaps even an obligation clause, to be included in this.

United were linked with a move for Kolo Muani earlier in the season as the club considers options to buttress its misfiring forward line.

Only four teams in the Premier League have scored fewer goals than the Red Devils this season – an ineffectiveness in the opposition box which ultimately cost Erik ten Hag his job in the summer.

New head coach Ruben Amorim will almost certainly be open to further investment in his new front line, especially with the departure of Marcus Rashford seemingly increasing likely by the day.

As with Kolo Muani, United are unlikely to be able to agree an exit for Rashford in January outside of a loan move, which makes the possibility that it could be a case of a ‘one-in, one-out’ approach for the Reds in terms of a late Christmas present.

If Rashford departs on a loan deal in January, Kolo Muani could be targeted as a short-term replacement on a six-month deal, before a final decision is made on a new attacker next summer.

Christopher Nkunku has decided he wants to leave Chelsea in January in what could prove to be a huge boost to Manchester United in their bid to sign a replacement for Marcus Rashford.

Nkunku is Chelsea’s top scorer this season with 12 goals in all competitions, but ten of those have come in the UEFA Conference League and Carabao Cup, with game time hard to come by for the France international in the Premier League.

TBR Football claim claim Nkunku is now ‘ready to leave in January after failing to become a first-team regular’.

The 27-year-old has been linked with United, and the report claims the Red Devils could also land a replacement for Rashford through Nkunku moving elsewhere as the forward’s representatives ‘actively looking into options for the French star’.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly chief among those interested in his services, though Serie A title chasers Napoli and Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Galatasaray are also understood to be keen along with several sides in the Bundesliga and Saudi Pro League.

According to the report a move to PSG could set off a chain reaction that could smooth Randal Kolo Muani’s path to Old Trafford.

It was claimed earlier this week that Kolo Muani – who joined the Ligue 1 giants for around £76m from Frankfurt in the summer of 2023 – could be made available in January and the Red Devils have identified him as a replacement for Rashford.

The availability of Nkunku will only increase PSG’s willingness to see the back of Kolo Muani, who’s also on Arsenal’s radar as Mikel Arteta looks to improve his attacking options.

Chelsea ‘will not stand in Nkunku’s way if he demands an exit, and they would sanction a loan, but any deal would need to include an option’.

It’s thought the Blues are looking for another forward who can be more of a like-for-like replacement for Nicolas Jackson, as head coach Enzo Maresca doesn’t think Nkunku is suited to that role.

Maresca was asked in his weekly press conference about Nkunku and he admitted: “I don’t think Nkunku is a striker.

“His best position is number 10. In January, we will decide. There are some players who may not be happy and may want to leave.”

United will surely be interested in Nkunku, who’s proven his finishing ability at Chelsea despite their inclination to let him leave, but he may well be more attracted by a move to his native France, which would make Kolo Muani a spare part at PSG that the Red Devils would be more than willing to acquire.
