Amorim has seen enough: Two United starters from Spurs game made “available” for transfer in January – Fabrizio Romano

    amorim-has-seen-enough:-two-united-starters-from-spurs-game-made-“available”-for-transfer-in-january-–-fabrizio-romano

Unlike Erik ten Hag, Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has not been afraid to rotate his squad even though the decision did backfire against Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

The decision to start Altay Bayindir did not pay off with the Portuguese making five changes from the Manchester derby win including starting an inept Antony while also handing rare starts to Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof.

The Dane was enjoying a mini-resurgence under the former manager but had started only once under the Portuguese before Thursday with the head coach looking at players who can provide intensity, something the 32-year-old cannot give, especially out of possession.

While he was decent against the North London side, he failed to put away two glorious chances in the first half and was eventually replaced by Kobbie Mainoo when the team needed to go on the attack.

Eriksen, Lindelof received rare starts vs Spurs

As for the Swede, he only recently returned from injury but did not even last the first 45 minutes, picking up yet another injury which will likely keep him sidelined for some time.

The former Benfica ace’s injury problems have restricted him to just 339 minutes across nine appearances in all competitions, and the club cannot afford to carry passengers.

The contract of both stars ends in 2025 with the Red Devils yet to approach either with fresh terms. Amorim, who has the final say in contract extensions, has not been convinced of the merits of keeping both around for the long term.

As per transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the 20-time English league champions want to sell both stars in January so as to try and recoup a small fee from their sale. However, so far no concrete approaches have been made.

    Both to leave in January

“Eriksen and Lindelof are available for January market, but at the moment there’s still nothing concrete. For sure both are players who could be available in January,” the Italian wrote on GivemeSport.

Lindelof has attracted interest from Turkey as well as Italy while Eriksen’s former outfit Ajax and Celtic have shown an interest in him.

Lindelof and Eriksen pocket a combined £270,000 per week and getting those wages off the books would certainly help with the club’s PSR situation.

Both Amad Diallo and Harry Maguire have reportedly impressed the boss enough to warrant new deals but as of now, there is no clarity on the situations of veterans Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton.

Man Utd: Souness blasts ‘failure’ Rashford for ‘quietly accepting’ transfer as exit ‘proves’ one thing

      man-utd:-souness-blasts-‘failure’-rashford-for-‘quietly-accepting’-transfer-as-exit-‘proves’-one-thing

Pundit Graeme Souness has hit out at wantaway Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford after he announced that he wants to leave the Premier League giants.

Rashford is eyeing an exit route from his boyhood club as he’s announced that he’s “ready” for a new challenge heading into the January transfer window.

The 27-year-old has been slammed for his poor performances and attitude for Man Utd over the past 18 months. He has severely declined since scoring 30 goals across all competitions in the 2022/23 season.

It remains to be seen where Rashford will go, but he is reportedly attracting interest from European and Saudi Pro League sides ahead of the winter window.

It’s been reported that Man Utd would be willing to let Rashford leave on loan on one condition, while Spanish giants FC Barcelona have made an ‘approach’ with the view to signing him in a loan-to-buy deal.

READ: ‘Toxic’ Rashford will have to take Newcastle ‘pay cut’ to prove he isn’t ‘basically Mudryk’

Souness has hit out at Rashford as his exit decision ‘proves he was not up for the challenge’ of battling for his place under Ruben Amorim.

“Marcus Rashford says he is ready for a new challenge and has proven he was not up for the first one thrown down to him of becoming a proper player at Manchester United,” Souness said in a column for The Daily Mail.

“For me, it’s like he has put his hands up in the air and is saying he can’t deal with the expectation levels on his shoulders. He has failed at proving he is able to hold down a place in a team where you play cup finals every week.’

“In ten seasons at United, he has scored over 20 goals on just three occasions. That’s proof that he is not up to taking on the challenge or the responsibility of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“In his head, he is quietly accepting he has to go and play in a less challenging league. It will be interesting to see where he ends up because, as I said last week, I fear it will only be downhill for him from United.”

Like Souness, former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has wanred Rashford that he “won’t do better than Man Utd”.

“The big decision is the breaking news about Marcus Rashford, and about him seeing his career elsewhere. He needs a fresh start, but I’m not sure where because he won’t do better than Manchester United,” Allardyce said.

“He was dropped from the squad, and that’s got to be because of the manager looking at his attitude.

“He’s obviously become disillusioned with Manchester United for whatever reason, but whether Manchester United are happy with him going is another question. It could be mutual because they could do with the money.”

Contact made: La Liga giants eyeing wantaway United superstar on loan in January with player “keen” on move – report

        contact-made:-la-liga-giants-eyeing-wantaway-united-superstar-on-loan-in-january-with-player-“keen”-on-move-–-report

Barcelona have sounded out Manchester United to discuss a January loan move for wantaway forward Marcus Rashford, according to reports.

FootballTransfers have claimed that the Blaugrana have “made contact” with United regarding a half-season loan with an option to buy the 27-year-old in the summer.

The La Liga giants put forward a fee of £35m, and the report claims that United “did not immediately respond” to the approach but that “Rashford has been made aware of the interest and is keen on the move.”

Rashford’s open admission that he is ready for a new challenge “piqued the interest” of the La Liga giants, who have “admired” the player “for some time”.

The report notes that the club’s president Joan Laporta is “keen to pounce on any available market opportunity”, and following his exclusion from the squad for the Manchester derby, Rashford may present exactly that.

Manager Ruben Amorim was keen to point out that Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were not included in the derby day squad for purely tactical reasons.

But that did little to halt speculation over the Englishman’s future at Old Trafford, which went into overdrive following an interview in which he stated “for me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”

Rashford has spent his entire career at United, having graduated from Carrington to make 426 senior appearances, scoring 138 goals and assisting 63.

He is the definition of a one-club man but according to FootballTransfers this counts for little as the club looks to rebuild its squad.

“Despite a sentimental attachment between Rashford and the club, Man Utd are determined to offload the winger in a bid to balance the books and revamp the team in collaboration with Amorim.”

The move therefore would suit all parties, however it seems unlikely to go through precisely because of the finances involved. Rashford is one of the club’s top earners, receiving north of £300,000 a week, a figure few clubs could match.

Getting this off the books would be a big win for the Red Devils, who would secure ‘pure profit’ from Rashford’s sale given that he came through the academy.

United are therefore “willing to make concessions in the form of a cut-price deal to facilitate a transfer”, but understand that his wages “could prove a major stumbling block.”

Indeed, Barcelona are one of the last clubs to depend on for robust finances – they “currently look unlikely” to get summer signing Dani Olmo registered before the 31 December deadline, so bringing in Rashford or anyone else would require a lot of number-crunching.

Joe has spent more than half his life writing about football and all of it following United. As a child he told a doctor his name was ‘Paul Scholes’, but could never pick a pass like him no matter how much he tried.

Another Arsenal wonderkid could follow in the footsteps of Chido Obi with United “showing an active interest” – report

          another-arsenal-wonderkid-could-follow-in-the-footsteps-of-chido-obi-with-united-“showing-an-active-interest”-–-report

Manchester United under INEOS are no longer interested in big-name stars but are looking to unearth the next big superstar as seen from their summer deal for Leny Yoro.

Aggressive academy recruitment is also underway as seen from deals for Samuel Lusale, Sekou Kone as well ex-Arsenal prodigy Chido Obi.

And it seems the 17-year-old might not be the only Arsenal academy graduate to make the move from The Emirates to Old Trafford if TBR Football is to believed.

The Gunners’ 18-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven has rejected a fresh approach from his club over extending his stay at North London.

Another Arsenal product could be on his way

Mike Arteta’s side had offered him fresh terms last year as well, but the England U19 international did not sign on the dotted lines.

His current deal is valid until 2025 and his reluctance to sign a new deal at Arsenal has meant United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, and Newcastle United are all monitoring proceedings with interest.

There is also foreign interest from the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli and Marseille but Arsenal remain confident of keeping hold of their highly-rated defender.

“TBR Football correspondent Graeme Bailey understands Arsenal are in danger of losing Ayden Heaven after he rejected fresh attempts from the club to tie him down to a professional deal.

“Premier League rivals Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Newcastle United are all showing an active interest in the England youth international.

“Arsenal have so far failed to convince Heaven to sign his first professional deal despite offering him terms last year. He was offered another deal when he turned 18 in September, but that has also gone unsigned to this point.

          United interested in Heaven

“We can reveal that foreign interest in Heaven is also strong with Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli and Marseille all keen to talk to him.”

Heaven has been on the Gunners bench thrice in the Premier League this season, twice in the last month and made his debut in the Carabao Cup, coming on for the last ten minutes in their win over Preston.

The lack of a proper pathway to the first team had seen Chido Obi leave and Heaven could follow unless his gametime dramatically increases. United certainly have a vacancy on the left side and that makes Old Trafford an attractive destination.

The youngster is left-footed, an extremely attractive profile, and can double up as a left-back and left wingback, something that will be attractive to Ruben Amorim.

Arteta has been extremely complimentary of the teenager and it will be interesting to see if INEOS can once again prise away an elite talent from their rivals.

Man Utd: Amorim makes two stars ‘available’ for transfer as Romano reveals pair could leave in January

            man-utd:-amorim-makes-two-stars-‘available’-for-transfer-as-romano-reveals-pair-could-leave-in-january

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has named two Manchester United stars who have been made “available” for transfer heading into the winter window.

Amorim took over at Man Utd earlier this month following the sacking of Erik ten Hag and has endured a difficult start at Old Trafford.

The Man Utd head coach has come across well and rightly earned praise for his handling of the Marcus Rashford situation.

However, he has four wins, one draw and three defeats in his eight matches in charge across all competitions. They were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in midweek and sit six points adrift of the Champions League places in 13th.

A big overhaul is expected at Man Utd in 2025 and Romano has confirmed that Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof are “available” for a transfer in January.

READ: Keane ‘disgust’ and MOTD plans praised while ‘haunted’ Mike Dean unwatchable – the football week in TV

The two players are about to enter the final six months of their contract and Romano also claims they do not have any “concrete” exit options at the moment.

“Eriksen and Lindelof are available for the January market, but at the moment there’s still nothing concrete,” Romano told GiveMeSport.

“For sure both are players who could be available in January.”

Amorim has also revealed what Man Utd need to fix quickest ahead of their Premier League match against AFC Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

“I think we are improving near the opponents’ box,” Amorim said.

“We had some games that we are near the box, but without a real threat.

“You could see different things today and you can see that we can shoot. We are near the goal and you feel it. You really feel it. I think it is a good thing in our team.

“I feel that our team is faster, are pressing more, the physicality is improving, the understanding of the game, and you can see it by the controlling of the game and you see it more.

“Especially in this game, but also in the last game. We understand more [about] the position and the movement that we should do.

“So, there are a lot of things but, today, it’s hard to think of the good things. We are out. Let’s focus on the next competition.”

On Antony, he added: “He needs more confidence. If you remember Antony and I played against him in Ajax. He lacks a little bit of confidence to go to one against one so he will improve.

“But he’s working really hard and he’s trying in displaying more inside than outside, especially in this game. And he just has to do that, to work really hard and I will happily help him to be a better player.”

“Playing for the sake of playing”: Former United winger explains why he’s glad he left Old Trafford – The Athletic

              “playing-for-the-sake-of-playing”:-former-united-winger-explains-why-he’s-glad-he-left-old-trafford-–-the-athletic

Former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga has claimed that he had to leave Old Trafford due to a lack of development.

The Swede came through the United youth system and won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award in 2020.

Consequently, he made his debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021.

In total he played 55 times for the club, scoring four goals, most notably in the Champions League away to Atletico Madrid and at Elland Road against Leeds United.

Nonetheless, he struggled for regular minutes under Erik ten Hag and he was sold to Nottingham Forest in 2023 where he has impressed. He has been a recurring feature in their first eleven and success as the Tricky Trees find themselves fourth in the league.

Speaking to The Athletic, Elanga revealed why he felt he needed to move on from United last year.

“I made the right decision, 100 per cent. I have not really spoken about this, but at the time at United, I was very young and I was coming into a team that was struggling.”

The 22 year old did comment that he was excited to be playing for a club the size of the Red Devils, especially as a teenager but he did admit his career felt stunted.

“I also never felt as though I was improving. I was playing for the sake of playing when I did get the odd opportunity off the bench.”

He claimed the move to the City Ground was massive as he has had the “opportunity to improve” after getting 90 minutes on a much more regular basis.

Comparing his situation at United and Forest he claimed, “when I played, I felt like I had purpose; like I was playing and improving in the process. That was the biggest change for me.”

The former United man once again stated that he knows he has made the right choice for his career asserting, “I feel as though I know the league inside-out now, because I have had the chance to learn. I have no regrets, because I am enjoying playing fantastic football with this team. We are in a really good place at the moment.”

Elanga has found regular minutes harder to come by recently but made an 11 minute substitute appearance in Forest’s 3-2 win over United at Old Trafford earlier in the month and scored his first goal of the season last weekend against Aston Villa.

Man Utd: Dan Ashworth’s ‘sensational’ PL ‘return’ deal to be ‘done soon’ amid Arsenal, Everton interest

Former Manchester United sporting director Dan Ashworth could reportedly ‘soon’ make a ‘sensational return’ to football amid interest from Arsenal.

Ashworth has had a rollercoaster year as he left Newcastle United for Man Utd before leaving the Premier League giants after just five months.

INEOS chief Sir Jim Ratcliffe headhunted the 53-year-old following his takeover as he overhauled Man Utd’s recruitment team.

Newcastle made it difficult for Man Utd to land Ashworth, who was placed on gardening leave after the interest became clear. A compensation package of around £20m was initially demanded, but an agreement was reached for around £3m.

However, Ashworth did not last long at Man Utd as he reportedly butted heads with Ratcliffe and the rest of the recruitment team.

Earlier this month, a report from The Sun claimed Arsenal and Everton are two possible next destinations for Ashworth.

‘Ashworth, who worked at Newcastle, Brighton, West Brom and the FA, could be offered a swift return.

‘Arsenal are assessing options to replace Edu as sporting director at the Emirates and Ashworth’s unexpected availability has caught their eye.

‘Ashworth has a close relationship with Gunners managing director Richard Garlick, who is leading the search to land a new sporting director.

‘Garlick was legal director at The Hawthorns and worked under Ashworth before replacing him as the club’s sporting director when he left to join the FA in 2013.

‘Everton are also monitoring Ashworth as they wait for The Friedkin Group to complete a takeover. The club’s prospective new owners are in the process of conducting a structural review, which will lead to new appointments including a chief executive and technical director.’

Since this report, Everton’s takeover has been finalised and a report from Football Insider claims a ‘deal is expected to be done soon’ with Ashworth, who ‘could be set to make a sensational return to football under the new ownership’.

‘The 53-year-old is on the market following his shock exit from Man United.

‘Football Insider revealed that Ashworth was paid around £5million in compensation after his role as sporting director ended on 8 December.

‘Everton would not have to worry about paying any compensation to a current club if they wanted to bring Ashworth on board, although Kevin Thelwell is currently in that role at Goodison Park. There is speculation about his future at the club after the Friedkin Group takeover was officially confirmed earlier this week and he is out of contract next summer.

‘The Merseyside giants could use Thelwell’s upcoming contract as an opportunity to change their sporting director, with Ashworth being a potential contender.

‘Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Ashworth isn’t expected to remain out of the game for too long.’

So, the actual report indicates a deal is not as close as suggested, but Everton do stick out as a likely destination for Ashworth following their takeover.

“Ready to leave”: Rival PL marksman issues stunning come-get-me-plea to United this January – report

                  “ready-to-leave”:-rival-pl-marksman-issues-stunning-come-get-me-plea-to-united-this-january-–-report

Christopher Nkunku has reportedly signalled he is “ready to leave Chelsea in January” due to a lack of first-team opportunities under Enzo Maresca, which could have a domino effect in the transfer market this winter for Manchester United.

Graeme Bailey (TBR Football) reveals the French international has grown increasingly frustrated with his playing time amid the sea of forwards at Stamford Bridge.

And while Nkunku had previously been “determined to battle for his place”, Bailey contends it has now “become clear that the 27-year-old is far from being a regular”.

The report indicates Nkunku’s representatives are “actively looking into options” away from Chelsea with a January exit increasingly likely. A loan deal is the most realistic option, though the London club would need a purchase option included to sanction the move.

United have previously been linked with Nkunku with a report relayed by The Peoples Person in October revealing Old Trafford officials were interested in a potential loan move this season and made enquiries as such.

The 27-year-old’s combination of technical skill and dribbling ability make him an ideal candidate for the LAM role in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

United’s new head coach is yet to find the perfect candidate for this role from the existing squad, with Bruno Fernandes often deployed deeper, while Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford lack the requisite ball control to play effectively in tight spaces.

Furthermore, both wingers were dropped last weekend for the Manchester Derby with Amorim revealing it was a decision based on merit and performance in training, rather than a disciplinary measure.

However, two days later, Rashford gave a candid interview in which he revealed he was “ready for a new challenge”, away from Old Trafford. It represented a bombshell moment for the English forward with an exit from his boyhood club suggested as early as the January transfer window.

As such, United may be in the market for a forward player more suited to Amorim’s system to replace an outbound one, with Nkunku ticking a lot of boxes for the Portuguese coach.

However, the Red Devils will face fierce competition for the 27-year-old with a host of clubs across Europe, and the Saudi Pro League, expressing an interest in the Chelsea man.

Bailey reveals Paris Saint-Germain are keen on pursuing the French forward, who previously played for the Ligue 1 champions and would be open to a return to Paris under Luis Enrique.

PSG would likely need to shift unwanted forward Randal Kolo-Muani to make space for Nkunku, however. And, in a twist to the tale, United also hold a long-standing interest in Kolo-Muani who they considered signing in the summer of 2023.

The French club are open to Kolo-Muani’s departure in January as Enqriue has made it clear the French international will not feature in his plans moving forward. And with United in desperate need of more goals in the front line, a loan move may make sense.

It appears a case of a French forward being high on the Red Devils’ shopping list this winter; whether that ends up being Nkunku or Kolo-Muani remans to be seen, but it is increasingly likely both players will be on the move in January.

The 27-year-old has been the talk of the footballing world this week as he’s announced that he is “ready” to leave Man Utd.

Rashford said: “When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.

“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

Rashford’s exit has been a long time coming as he has been slammed for his poor form and attitude over the past 18 months. He made his announcement after being left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

The England international is linked with several Premier League, European and Saudi Pro League sides. It’s been reported that Man Utd would be willing to let him leave on loan on one condition.

La Liga giants Barcelona have been mooted as a possible destination and a report from Football Transfers claims ‘Barcelona have made contact with Manchester United over a January loan move for Rashford’.

It is noted that this would be a loan-to-buy deal and Rashford is ‘keen on the move’.

‘The news of Rashford’s desire to leave has piqued the interest of Barcelona, we are told. Rashford is a player the Blaugrana have admired for some time, and president Joan Laporta is keen to pounce on any available ‘market opportunity.’

‘We understand that Barcelona have made contact with Man Utd regarding a potential half-season loan that would include the option to buy the 27-year-old in the summer.’

‘The fee put forward by the Spanish giants was £35 million (€42m). Man Utd did not immediately respond to the approach but Rashford has been made aware of the interest and is keen on the move.

‘Despite a sentimental attachment between Rashford and the club, Man Utd are determined to offload the winger in a bid to balance the books and revamp the team in collaboration with Amorim.’

While Rashford is nearing an exit, Man Utd have reportedly closed a transfer as Fabrizio Romano has revealed that “all documents are signed” for them to acquire 17-year-old Diego Leon.

On Friday evening, Romano revealed: “Diego León has signed all documents to join Manchester United in 2025.

“Contracts in place for 17 year old left back to become Man United player from July 2025, when he turns 18.

“Deal sealed by Jason Wilcox after South America lead scout Giuseppe Antonaccio pushed for León as talent. Paraguayan LB joins from Cerro Porteno for $4m fixed fee, $1m easy add-ons, $2/3k extra difficult add-ons. Here we go, confirmed.”

Manchester United left back target Antonee Robinson has claimed that he would change club if Fulham got a fair price for him.

The Red Devils have had major issues at left back this season once again with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia both frequently unavailable to play.

They have had to make do with both Noussair Mazraoui and Diogo Dalot filling in but both players perform better on the right side of the pitch.

Therefore, numerous names such as Alphonso Davies, Nuno Mendes and Patrick Dorgu have been linked to the club.

One option closer to home though, who is also said to be of interest, is Fulham’s Antonee Robinson.

United were keen on the American in the summer but despite no move taking place, they would reportedly like to thrash out a deal for the Fulham man in January, even if the Cottagers seem less keen.

Spanish outlet MARCA report though that Robinson has certainly not closed the door to a move.

The left back claimed that he was “very happy” at Fulham but then stated he was delighted that certain teams were taking an interest in his progression.

“The fact that there is interest from other teams is great. Obviously, it all comes down to whether someone wants me enough to pay what Fulham would ask,” he said.

Despite admitting the decision on his future is currently in Fulham’s hands, he hardly suggested he would put up much fight were a team to make an attractive offer.

“So, if the club sees it as a good idea, I would go.”

Robinson won Fulham’s Player of the Year last season and has carried on his fine form this year, especially last weekend when he shone against Liverpool.

The American international has played 16 matches in the league this season and he has provided an outstanding six assists.
