Serie A superstar forward “determined to leave” Milan with United plotting blockbuster summer swoop – report

    serie-a-superstar-forward-“determined-to-leave”-milan-with-united-plotting-blockbuster-summer-swoop-–-report

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford’s future continues to dominate headlines after his recent revelation that he wants to leave his boyhood club.

Since that infamous interview dropped, Ruben Amorim has excluded him from two matchday squads in a row and the Mancunian could miss the Wolves game as well.

His asking price coupled with his humongous wages means a permanent exit in January seems unlikely as most of the big guns are in no position to afford such a deal mid-season.

That is why a loan exit is being planned and in case that pans out, the Red Devils will need a replacement with Kaoru Mitoma‘s name recently mentioned as a potential option.

    Leao not happy at Milan

His goals and assist numbers are not that good and United need someone more prolific if they are to climb up the Premier League table and Milan Live have claimed AC Milan superstar Rafael Leao could be an option.

The Portugal international has six goals and as many assists this term, far from the numbers he has usually racked up over the years. In the previous campaign, Leao had registered 15 goals and 14 assists.

In fact, he has been the epitome of consistency, managing to break the double digit mark for goals and assists three seasons in a row before the current campaign.

However, the report mentions that the Portuguese and Milan boss Paulo Fonseca are not on the best of terms and the left winger is determined to find an exit.

Barcelona are described as his prime suitors but apart from the Catalan giants, United, Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal are all interested in the 25-year-old and a summer auction is on the cards.

“In this first part of the season, Leao’s performance has been very inconsistent and his relationship with Paulo Fonseca is anything but idyllic.

“The Rossoneri attacking winger is no longer as happy as he once was in Milan and he is increasingly determined to leave Serie A to play elsewhere at the end of the season, no longer feeling like the protagonist of a project that initially intrigued him a lot.

    Summer exit on the cards

“The next few months could be Rafael Leao ‘s last with the Milan jersey. Leao dreams of a new challenge and a project that gives him motivation and the Blaugrana intrigues him quite a bit. Barcelona itself is interested in the Portuguese and the management is carefully watching the evolution of the situation.

“Barcelona is not the only club interested in Leao. In addition to the aforementioned PSG, Arsenal and Manchester United are also on the trail of the Portuguese talent and a real auction is expected.”

Leao’s current deal with AC Milan is valid until 2028 and he has a market value of €75 million as per Transfermarkt. The Rossoneri are likely to ask for a lot more.

Whether INEOS can come up with that sort of money will depend a lot on outgoings, especially that of Rashford.

Real Madrid looking to steal a march on United in their attempts to land €35m CL winner who’s a perfect fit for Amorim – report

      real-madrid-looking-to-steal-a-march-on-united-in-their-attempts-to-land-e35m-cl-winner-who’s-a-perfect-fit-for-amorim-–-report

Manchester United’s need for a left wingback is well known with Luke Shaw out injured while Tyrell Malacia has struggled since his return from a long-term issue.

Diogo Dalot has been forced to play there even though Ruben Amorim has explained that his compatriot is more suited to the right side.

The Portuguese full-back did not cover himself in glory against the Cherries and the head coach has asked INEOS for an early resolution in January.

A lot of names have been linked with a move to Old Trafford with Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez one of them with the Spaniard open to leaving his current outfit.

      Real want Gutierrez

Amorim has reportedly given his green light for the club to go after the Girona defender with Atletico Madrid also being one of his suitors.

Now, as per Real Madrid Confidencial, Real Madrid are looking to jump for their former star next summer after the uncertainty surrounding their chase for Alphonso Davies.

As per their buyback clause, Gutierrez can be acquired for just €9 million in 2025 with the price rising by a million every summer.

The report also mentions that a “secret clause” inserted into the deal has prohibited Girona from selling the Spain international to arch-rivals Atletico.

      Atletico out?

Interestingly, Real also hold a 50% sell-on clause which could see them net half of the sale proceeds should United actually win the transfer race.

“One of the players who is almost always on Real Madrid’s radar is Miguel Gutiérrez. The talented left-back, who moved to Girona after an excellent loan spell with the Catalan club, has grown to become one of the best defenders in La Liga.

“With Miguel Gutierrez as one of the possible signings for the coming summers, Real Madrid have detected the great competition that there is to get his services. This time it is their other great rival: Atletico Madrid.

“The transfer agreement between Real Madrid and Girona would have a “secret clause”. Thanks to this provision, the Merengue bosses can prevent Girona from negotiating with certain clubs, such as Atlético de Madrid.

“The incorporation of the left-back would cost just nine million euros during the summer market of 2025. If this operation does not become a reality, his transfer will continually increase. As things stand, the price to be paid for Girona’s ‘3’ will increase by one million as the seasons go by.

      United also in the race

“Some teams such as Manchester United have started the first moves to sign him, unsuccessful approaches to date… which Real Madrid is keeping an eye on: they will take 50% of the player’s final transfer fee.”

The Spain international was one of the standouts from Girona’s historic season last time out, with Gutierrez registering nine assists as well as two goals as his club qualified for the Champions League for the first time.

He has carried his good form into the current campaign, netting twice already while also garnering five assists. He has played both as a left back and a left wingback and is considered a great fit for Amorim’s system.

The 23-year-old has a release clause of €35 million. Whether United trigger the clause in January remains to be seen.

Man Utd ‘green light’ Marcus Rashford transfer to Euro giants as INEOS ‘follow Jadon Sancho blueprint’

        man-utd-‘green-light’-marcus-rashford-transfer-to-euro-giants-as-ineos-‘follow-jadon-sancho-blueprint’

Marcus Rashford has reportedly received a ‘green light’ to sign for another club as Manchester United are ‘ready to follow the Jadon Sancho blueprint’.

Rashford recently revealed that he wants to leave Man Utd as he is “ready” for a new challenge after being omitted from Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester derby.

The 27-year-old is linked with several European and Saudi Pro League sides with La Liga giants FC Barcelona mooted as one possible destination.

Earlier this week, a report claimed Man Utd are in favour of a swap deal as they have been deemed the ‘perfect destination’ for one of Barcelona’s wantaway stars.

READ: Big Boxing Day: Newcastle v Aston Villa, Hurzeler, Ipswich, Marcus Rashford, Edinburgh derby

A new report from Football Insider claims Barcelona are ‘readying a bid’ for Rashford, while Man Utd have given their ‘green light’ for this move.

It is also noted that they are ‘ready to follow the Sancho blueprint’ as an alternative transfer has Rashford ‘unconvinced’.

‘The Red Devils loaned Jadon Sancho out to Borussia Dortmund last January and they are ready to follow that blueprint by green-lighting a similar exit for Rashford.

‘Sources say a permanent exit for the 27-year-old in the mid-season window is “highly unlikely”.

‘Saudi Pro League clubs could be the only avenue open to the England international if he wants to leave Old Trafford permanently – and Rashford is unconvinced.’

‘Meanwhile, Barcelona are keen to bring the versatile forward to Catalonia and help in the rehabilitation of his form and transfer value.

‘It remains a difficult deal to do due to Barca’s financial situation and Rashford’s astronomical wage but it is believed United are ready to make it happen.’

Despite this, The Athletic’s David Ornstein has indicated that Rashford’s situation is far from over, though he is ‘one to watch in the weeks ahead’.

‘Considering he is currently not playing and earns an extremely high wage, it is hard to envisage a January sale; that would more likely materialise in the summer.

‘What might be more sensible is a loan. It would give him the chance to get back on track and rebuild his value before the issue is revisited post-season.

‘Taking Rashford on a temporary basis should also avoid whoever gets him having to cover the whole of his salary.

‘United have previously benefited from similar arrangements in the cases of Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood at Borussia Dortmund and Getafe respectively.

‘There is no indication they are pursuing such a route yet, but it is one to watch in the weeks ahead.’

Fabrizio Romano gives huge update on United’s January pursuit of €75m talisman amid suggestions of ongoing talks

          fabrizio-romano-gives-huge-update-on-united’s-january-pursuit-of-e75m-talisman-amid-suggestions-of-ongoing-talks

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United acre currently not in negotiations for Victor Osimhen despite suggestions he could be on the move in January.

Osimhen has been linked to United for the past few windows but needless to say, a switch to Old Trafford has never materialised.

The Red Devils are expected to be in the market for reinforcements in the striker position and Osimhen has emerged as a target yet again.

The Nigeria international joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli during the summer after a late switch to Chelsea fell through, but the Serie A outfit are believed to have the option to recall him in January if they receive a permanent offer.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that United are competing with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain for Osimhen’s services. He is expected to cost around €75 million.

It was subsequently relayed that Napoli would be open to a swap deal, with Antonio Conte’s side thought to be admirers of Joshua Zirkzee, Rasmus Hojlund and wantaway forward Marcus Rashford.

Amidst speculation that United had established contact with Osimhen’s agent, Romano has now set the record straight and indicated that nothing concrete is in motion.

The Italian journalist wrote for GIVEMESPORT, “I’m not aware of concrete talks taking place, despite links with Man United.”

“The situation remains quiet at the moment; the only way to change it is triggering the clause into his Napoli contract (he’s on loan at Galatasaray) and also reaching an agreement on salary close to €11m net per season.”

          “Not an easy one.”

Osimhen has netted 12 goals and provided five assists in 15 appearances across all competitions for Galatasaray. This tally includes five goal involvements in four Europa League appearances.

United return to action later today when they face Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium. Kick-off is at 17:30 GMT.

United plotting surprise summer move for 33-year-old defender on free transfer, ready to offer “tempting contract” – report

            united-plotting-surprise-summer-move-for-33-year-old-defender-on-free-transfer,-ready-to-offer-“tempting-contract”-–-report

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring Inigo Martinez’s situation amid uncertainty over his long-term future at Barcelona.

Much has been written about United’s struggles going forward under Ruben Amorim, who is certainly in a desperate need of a reliable goalscorer heading into the January transfer window.

However, the Red Devils have also appeared shaky in their own final third, having conceded 12 goals in their last five games across all competitions, underlining the need for a new centre-back.

Having said that, they are unlikely to be in a position to spend big on yet another central defender, considering there are other more major holes to address in Amorim’s squad.

According to Fichajes, United are looking to take advantage of Martinez’s contractual situation.

They are “emerging as potential bidders” for his signature should he fail to find an agreement with Barcelona over a new contract.

The Spaniard has been one of the stand-out performers under Hansi Flick, having impressed with his positioning and ability to bring the ball out from the back. He has already made 18 appearances in La Liga this season.

Despite his importance to Flick’s system, Barca have yet to make any significant progress in securing his future. The former Athletic Club star will become a free agent at the end of the campaign.

The Spanish outlet claims United see the 33-year-old as a solution to their defensive crisis, and they are attracted to the possibility of signing him without paying any transfer fee in the summer. The Mancunians are reported to be willing to offer a “tempting contract” to lure him to Old Trafford.

It is added that the next few months could be decisive in deciding the future of Martinez, who moved to the Catalan giants from the Basque side as a free agent in 2023.

However, instead of looking to sign an ageing centre-back from a different league, United would do well to extend Harry Maguire’s contract.

The Englishman, who has appeared promising in limited minutes under Amorim, has entered the final year of his contract and has attracted interest from several clubs, including Napoli.

Man Utd ‘insider’ insists replacing one ‘not good enough’ star is Amorim’s January transfer ‘priority’

              man-utd-‘insider’-insists-replacing-one-‘not-good-enough’-star-is-amorim’s-january-transfer-‘priority’

It has been suggested that Manchester United’s January transfer “priority” will be to replace Tyrell Malacia, as the left-back is “not good enough”.

Last month, head coach Ruben Amorim took over at Man Utd following Erik ten Hag’s exit.

The 39-year-old has come across well and has a clear tactical identity, but has endured a difficult start at Old Trafford.

Under Amorim, Man Utd have four wins, one draw and four defeats. Following their disappointing 3-0 home loss against AFC Bournemouth, they will look to return to winning ways on Boxing Day against Wolves.

A huge overhaul is expected at Man Utd next year as Amorim looks to put his stamp on their squad. One of his main issues is at left-back as injuries have dogged Malacia and Luke Shaw in recent seasons.

READ: Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle already know their greatest January signing ever

Malacia did not make a single appearance during the 2023/24 campaign and he’s only featured in five matches this season. The Dutchman started against Bournemouth, though he was hooked at half-time after being exposed by Andoni Iraola’s stars.

Man Utd ‘insider’ Mick Brown – who is a former Premier League chief scout – has slammed Malacia and has insisted that the signing of a new left-back “has to be a priority” for Amorim and Co. heading into January.

He told Football Insider: “Malacia isn’t good enough. He just isn’t at the standard required for Man United, and I think they’re starting to see that now.

“They’ve given him chances to impress in a few games since Amorim came in and he hasn’t done, he looked completely out of place against Bournemouth.”

👉 Man Utd: Ratcliffe sends warning to Amorim as INEOS chief looks to replicate ‘bargain buy’

“You have to bare in mind he’s had injury issues, but even with that in mind, he hasn’t been good enough.

“Then we come back to the issue with Shaw – they’re a far better team with him at left-back. If he was fit, he’d be in the side every week, but he isn’t fit and that’s something they’ll also have to take into consideration.

“Luckily for them, the January transfer window is around the corner and that’s something they’re going to look to improve because it is a problem position. They just lack real impressive options there, so that has to be a priority.”

Before United’s match against Wolves, Amorim admitted they are in one of their “lowest moments”.

“If you have big talent, big performance, big responsibility, push forward everybody in this moment. Some guys have a big responsibility here because they are here for a long time,” Amorim said.

“This is maybe one of the lowest moments in our club so we have to face it and be strong in this moment. That’s what I want from every player on the team.”

“Contingency plans”: horrified United staff look elsewhere amid fears over 2025 misery – The Athletic

                “contingency-plans”:-horrified-united-staff-look-elsewhere-amid-fears-over-2025-misery-–-the-athletic

Manchester United staff fear that there could be more job losses on the way despite recent cuts to staffing numbers.

Last summer, it was announced that Ineos would aim to cut 250 jobs in what they felt was a bloated workforce in comparison to their rivals.

Consequently, the mood around the staff at United is said to be at an all-time low, not helped by the cancellation of the Christmas party this year.

There is said to have been a culture of fear developing among staff with the sacking of sporting director Dan Ashworth showing that nobody is truly safe.

The Athletic report that United staff feel that this may just be the beginning of the re-shaping of the workforce.

“A key objective for Ratcliffe has been headcount reduction, down from around 1,000 to 750. Those large-scale redundancies have left morale, in the words of several employees, ‘on the floor’,” the outlet says.

A recent speech by CEO Omar Berrada to the workforce has given employees the feeling though that “many of those in the audience that even more people could lose their jobs in the second year of INEOS governance.”

It is said that Ashworth’s departure has sent “shockwaves” around the club and proven that nobody is truly safe from the Ineos axe.

“In that light, some staff at United are making contingency plans and looking at opportunities elsewhere. For instance, the commercial director at a different north-west football club is sitting on around a dozen applications from current United employees.”

Those who have inside knowledge of how Sir Jim Ratcliffe does business know that he is “obsessed” with staffing levels and it is an approach that has worked very well in building his fortune in the business world.

One key aspect Ineos aim to dispose of is the concept of a “jobs for life” culture at the club and the chemicals company would argue this is not what happens in the real world of cut-throat business.

The counter argument of course is that while United need to get their finances in check, a football club is not exactly a normal business and can lean very heavily on emotion and staff loyalty.

Ineos’ ridiculous penny pinching puts CEO Omar Berrada in embarrassing spot – The Athletic

                  ineos’-ridiculous-penny-pinching-puts-ceo-omar-berrada-in-embarrassing-spot-–-the-athletic

Manchester United have limited CEO Omar Berrada to being able to sign-off on payments of £25,000 or below.

One of part-owners Ineos’ greatest problems is the level of debt at the club and United’s major challenge of staying within PSR restrictions.

As a result, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has felt the need to introduce numerous cost-cutting measures across the club.

One of the most controversial was the sacking of 250 staff members to reduce the number of people on a bloated workforce.

The Red Devils have also faced major scrutiny for their decision to raise matchday ticket prices and to also reduce staff bonuses.

It seems that not even Omar Berrada, the CEO of the club is safe from Ineos’ cost-cutting measures.

The Athletic report that “Ratcliffe’s tight grip on outgoings extends to Berrada, whose sign-off only goes up to £25,000.”

“Payments above that figure must be approved by Roger Bell, the chief financial officer who spent 24 years in the same position at INEOS before joining United, or Rob Nevin, the chairman of INEOS Sport, who is also now a director on United’s board.”

This has also led to discussions on where Ineos can further cut what they consider excess fat from their outgoings.

They have debated the possibility of reducing funding for the former United players association (AFMUP) which stands at £26,000 per year.

“A cut to the allowance for United’s disabled supporters group (MUDSA) has also been explored. Sign-off is required on canteen orders as well, such as when carrots are bought in bulk. Beans have run out in the press suite.”

Whilst Berrada will understand the need to cut waste in order to maximise the club’s ability to spend on the pitch, it is not certain how such an experienced, successful professional would take being so clearly untrusted in how to spend the club’s money.

Nonetheless, it has been reported that Berrada and Ratcliffe enjoy a positive working relationship and that Ineos have been impressed by their new hire. Supporters will be hoping this remains true and there can be the stability that the club currently craves after a tornado of change over the last 12 months.

Manchester United have been advised that it may be the “best decision” to “terminate” one player’s contract as he needs to be “let go”.

Ruben Amorim was recently appointed to replace Erik ten Hag at Man Utd and he’s got a huge job at Old Trafford. He has four wins, one draw and four defeats in his nine games as they sit nine points adrift of the Champions League places.

Man Utd will look to return to winning ways on Boxing Day as they visit Wolves and it’s clear that Amorim needs to oversee a huge rebuild.

The 39-year-old has several problem positions, but it is understood that their priority will be to sign a left-back as they cannot rely on Luke Shaw or Tyrell Malacia.

Shaw only made 12 Premier League appearances last season and he’s also barely featured for Man Utd this term. He has only been on the pitch for 98 minutes in three matches this campaign.

READ: Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle already know their greatest January signing ever

The England international made his first appearance of the 2024/25 season at the end of November, but he’s missed recent matches after suffering a “small setback”.

It remains to be seen when Shaw will return and former Man Utd chief scout Mick Brown thinks they could ‘terminate his contract’ as this would be the “best decision”.

“I keep coming back to this issue with Shaw,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They’re a far better team with him at left-back. But they know all about his injury situation and it’s gone on for far too long.

“So they’ve got to make a decision for the player, the club, and for England, about his future at Man United.”

“Then you’ve got the issue of finding a club who are willing to sign him knowing his history because it’s not like his contract is running out this season or anything. But if it becomes a possibility, I think they might have to move him on.”

Goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has been named Manchester United Women’s Player of the Month for 2024.

The American keeper was given the unenviable task of replacing United legend Mary Earps in the summer after she left at the end of her contract to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Many expected United to struggle to replace such an iconic player in the Women’s game but Tullis-Joyce has taken to the challenge like a duck to water.

United have started the season well and at the winter break, find themselves fourth in the Women’s Super League, with six wins from 10 matches and only one defeat, to leaders Chelsea.

They are also safely through to the quarter finals of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester City for a place in the last four.

The 28 year old has been in fine form all season but particularly this month as she has been awarded the prize as the team’s best player.

According to the official club website, “Phallon has kept seven clean sheets in our 10 league outings so far this campaign, more than any other goalkeeper in the top division.”

She did not concede a goal in the month of December as the Reds beat Liverpool 4-0 and saw off Crystal Palace 1-0 before Christmas.

The New Yorker is the first goalkeeper to win the award since Earps did back in January 2023.

In fact, she has only conceded three goals all season against Brighton and Hove Albion, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Her fine form led to her first ever call up for the United States national team last month.

Tullis-Joyce joins Grace Clinton and Geyse as the winners of this season’s edition and will hope to carry on her fine form when the Women’s team return on the 11th of January to play West Bromwich Albion in the defence of their FA Cup title.
