Mary who? Brilliant Tullis-Joyce achieves key milestone Earps last won 2 years ago

Goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce has been named Manchester United Women’s Player of the Month for 2024.

The American keeper was given the unenviable task of replacing United legend Mary Earps in the summer after she left at the end of her contract to join Paris Saint-Germain.

Many expected United to struggle to replace such an iconic player in the Women’s game but Tullis-Joyce has taken to the challenge like a duck to water.

United have started the season well and at the winter break, find themselves fourth in the Women’s Super League, with six wins from 10 matches and only one defeat, to leaders Chelsea.

They are also safely through to the quarter finals of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester City for a place in the last four.

The 28 year old has been in fine form all season but particularly this month as she has been awarded the prize as the team’s best player.

According to the official club website, “Phallon has kept seven clean sheets in our 10 league outings so far this campaign, more than any other goalkeeper in the top division.”

She did not concede a goal in the month of December as the Reds beat Liverpool 4-0 and saw off Crystal Palace 1-0 before Christmas.

The New Yorker is the first goalkeeper to win the award since Earps did back in January 2023.

In fact, she has only conceded three goals all season against Brighton and Hove Albion, Arsenal and Chelsea.

Her fine form led to her first ever call up for the United States national team last month.

Tullis-Joyce joins Grace Clinton and Geyse as the winners of this season’s edition and will hope to carry on her fine form when the Women’s team return on the 11th of January to play West Bromwich Albion in the defence of their FA Cup title.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
