Record-setting 24-yo star sets key transfer condition before accepting to seal United move in January – report

Leeds’ Illian Meslier reportedly want to be the first-choice goalkeeper if he secures a move during the upcoming January transfer window.

Meslier has been linked to Manchester United, amidst uncertainty over the future of Altay Bayindir. Bayindir could be on his way out of the club in search of guaranteed first-team minutes elsewhere.

Since he arrived at Old Trafford, the Turkey international has found playing time extremely hard to come by, with Andre Onana the undisputed number one.

Ruben Amorim recently gave Bayindir the chance to prove himself when he started him in a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur but he failed to take his chance, making two costly errors as United were dumped out of the competition.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Amorim is also keen on more competition for Onana, hence the links to Meslier.

This is not the first time Meslier has been mentioned to be on United’s radar. He was once touted as a replacement for David de Gea but needless to say, a transfer never materialised.

The Frenchman is enjoying a sensational campaign with Leeds. He has made 24 Championship appearances, keeping 14 clean sheets in the process. He has conceded just 15 goals in that period.

Journalist Ben Jacobs revealed Meslier’s stance to GIVEMESPORT ahead of what could be an intriguing window for the 24-year-old.

Jacobs said, “There is interest in him. I can’t confirm the Manchester United links to any great degree.”

“Manchester United will resolve the Bayinder situation, and then if Bayinder leaves, whenever that is, January or summer, they’ll need another goalkeeper, of course.”

“But there are suitors out there that are looking at Meslier for a number one. And again, to reiterate, that is what I’m told is his preference.”

Despite still being relatively young for a goalkeeper, Meslier boasts significant first-team experience. Leeds’ win over Derby on Sunday was his 200th appearance for the Elland Road outfit. In doing so, he became the first Leeds goalkeeper to reach a double-century of matches for the club since Nigel Martyn, who managed the same back in 2000.

United are back in action later this evening when they welcome Eddie Howe’s Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Romano confirms Man Utd interest in Portugal star after ‘offer’ is made to PSG

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Man Utd are interested in Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes ahead of the winter transfer window.

The Red Devils are struggling under Ruben Amorim with the Portuguese head coach finding similar problems that Erik ten Hag experienced during his two years at the club.

His Man Utd team have continued their inconsistency in performances and results with Amorim’s men currently 14th in the Premier League table ahead of their clash with Newcastle on Monday night.

Amorim is struggling to get the best out of his formation and style of play with the current players and there is an expectation that INEOS will give him some support in the January transfer window.

One position that Amorim has pinpointed as an area to improve is left-back with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia often injured and Diogo Dalot preferring a role at right-back.

And a report last week claimed that Man Utd have ‘made an offer’ for PSG left-back Mendes with Napoli interested in signing Shaw in the January transfer window.

It is claimed that a ‘standstill’ over contract talks between PSG and Mendes has given Man Utd a potential chance to land the Portugal international despite the French club’s desire to ‘keep’ the left-back.

Mendes ‘wants to leave the club’ after contract talks as the PSG defender ‘believes that the salary offered does not correspond to his status as a starter’.

And now Romano has now backed up interest from Man Utd in Mendes, although there is no mention of a bid being submitted by the Red Devils.

GiveMeSport revealed the latest from Romano:

‘Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has confirmed that PSG left-back Mendes is a player that United appreciate ahead of the January transfer window, The respected reporter adds that signing a player in this position is in United’s plans for 2025, but he’s not the only player they appreciate.

‘PSG had a verbal agreement to extend the contract of Mendes and they are insisting on keeping him at the Ligue 1 club, so it’s not going to be an easy deal for them to do. Mendes is one of the most exciting young full-backs in world football, and he could be ideal for Amorim’s system.

‘Mendes is a more than capable defender, but he also offers a threat in the final third, making him a perfect fit for the wing-back role under Amorim. Securing his signature certainly won’t be easy, but with his contract expiring in 2026, PSG could be forced into a sale if they are unable to tie him down to a new contract.’

        Kudos to the Reds
We’re nearly halfway through the season and all of our worst fears have come true. Just look at that fu*king league table. In the words of some talking heads, “well, how did I get here?”

As much as it pains me to see them romping it at the halfway point, nobody can deny they deserve it. They have a great defence, decent attack (arguably courtesy of one man) and a new manager who has hit the ground running. In my heart of hearts, I also think it’s nice to see one of the old guard do well.

It kind of feels like that time Leicester shocked everyone and won the race of the three-legged donkeys (no offence Jamie Vardy, put your generic alcopop bottle down). They have momentum, Chelsea are too much in their infancy, City and Arsenal seem to have s**t the bed more than Stewey G. There’s also now a very slim chance that United can catch them, but we can only hope.

So what does the rest of season hold for us? Short-term, we’re all hoping the wheels come off and they revert to their mean. Naturally, we all pray that Utd can avoid relegation to get into the top half of the table. Man City are likely to be charged more than Elon Musk’s Prius, and unfortunately it seems the men in red will bring the league title back up north.

That being the case, fair play to Nottingham Forest (best English team to play in Europe in the 80s) as they win the league again.

E-mail entitled ‘The United Problem’ that inevitably ends up about Liverpool
I can’t remember who wrote in and said it but someone asked the question how Salah or Saka fit in at United under Amorim?

Simple. They wouldn’t. When Liverpool were looking at Amorim one of the reported reasons we didn’t ultimately hire him was that he had a particular system and needed specific players to incorporate it. At Liverpool he would have been asked to do what Slot is doing and make the best of what is available as there would be little to no money.

*Side note – Slot is incredibly fluid with his tactics, something I didn’t see in his games in the Dutch league in which he played largely the same way all the time as a slightly more direct Pep clone.

Both Salah and Saka are at their best on the wing cutting in, a role which doesn’t really exist in Amorim approach as he prefers the wingbacks to provide the width and the ‘wingers’ are actually two free roaming number 10s. So they wouldn’t do as well under Amorim as they do for their current manager who structures the team to try and get the best out of them. Saka stays high and wide and in free space and the ’10’ at Liverpool often roams wide to attract the defender and create one on one situations for Salah.

The problem with Amorim at United is the same problem with Pep at City currently – they have one rigid system that requires specific players and right now…they don’t have those players. Amorim has inherited a bunch of players recruited to play a system where everyone chases the ball in the top third without any real structure or tactics to it, many of them aren’t good at pressing either solitary or coordinated. Fernandes, Eriksen, Garnacho, Rashford are all pretty individual and pressing isn’t their top attributes.

Luckily Hojlund, Amad and Mainoo are all young enough to be moulded and seem willing to do so. Give Amorim a summer transfer window with a good budget (it won’t be cheap) and I’m sure you’ll see a change in fortunes. The issue will be that when you have one way to play you better hope you don’t get a key injury because it can come crashing down.

Finally, I’ve heard multiple times this season how City and Arsenal have struggled because of injuries. While they have had injuries so have Liverpool, played most of the season with an unfit injured left back (both of them) second-choice goalkeeper, missing our first-choice centre back and McAllister in and out through suspension and injury as well. My point is everyone has had injury problems. City’s issue is bigger than missing players. Arsenal’s squad is pretty thin on talent so their complaint of missing Odegaard is pretty valid in my opinion.

If/when Liverpool win the league I just want to remind people it wasn’t a season in which everyone capitulated because of injury and Liverpool glided to an easy title win , people love devaluing Liverpool’s successes and really can’t just let them enjoy anything. Our injuries have been just as bad as anyone else’s, we have just coped better so far.

        Football clubs reflect their owners
        The Saturday mailbox
discussing how badly United are run and how Liverpool leverages data, misses a little context. That a lot of teams reflect their owners.

United’s demise started with Ferguson leaving a cr*p team and insisting Moyes be his successor. And for those United fans who say, but the team recently won a league, they must have been good; just look at the current City side.

But like many CEOs who, upon retirement, write books extolling their leadership qualities in an ode to themselves, Ferguson went on road trips explaining ‘management’ to CxOs. (I just love the idea of a CEO giving his IT team the hairdryer treatment and flicking his chinos off the CTO’s head.) But it’s always in hindsight – attributing some win directly to something specific they had done – consciously or not. But most United fans simply expected United to carry on – this relieves pressure on Woodward et al., whose primary focus was on maximising profit for his owners and not necessarily winning – because he, too, probably believed it would all come good soon.

But the whole management of the club has been a sh*tshow, bathing in the Fergie’s aura without really drilling down into what was needed. Each new manager demanding a different type of player because they ‘fitted’ their style. With no overall analytics or proper decision making apparatus in place.

The Liverpool/FSG story around data missed one key item – which was that it was Spurs who first forayed into this area, only to jettison it quite early, with Liverpool picking up the pieces.

A lot of this is a reflection of the ownership. In the case of FSG and the two B’s, their owners used data heavily in their outside interests and couldn’t see a reason not to bring it into the game.

It’s funny how the Spurs and United, both currently awful at bringing on new players, have decided that data can’t play a role. Sure, it’s not the be-all and end-all, but if there are 25 candidate players, you can quickly whittle down to the 3 or 4 who would best fit your system and be viable long-term. Spurs fans can say they have done it well within their financial boundaries, even while paying for a spectacular stadium. But it’s not bringing results in the field.

Liverpool avoided Amorim as they factored in the cost of replacing players to fit his style, they avoided Ugarte as they didn’t want a player who relied on mad tackling all over the field and little positional discipline. United? Desperate to fill a gap, grabbed what they could. What was available at any cost.

When you constantly read ‘gossip’ pieces mentioning Player A or Player B could be going to Liverpool, a brief look at the player and you know it’s absolute cobblers and no way they would be seriously looking – a 27 year old forward valued at £70.5 (Thuram) or a midfielder valued £150m with one year left on his contract. Seriously. But you could see United go for either of those. Lots of money, little sense.

Perhaps the funniest part was the idea that Ratcliffe would quickly turn things around. After all he has street cred with cycling. But it misses how Ratcliffe made his money. It was from taking over distressed or at least unwanted assets, stripping them down, to increase earnings, cutting taxes by moving to lower tax regimes, and closing factories in the UK. On that basis, Ratcliffe will move United to Europe and it’s head office to Luxembourg. He’s already started on reducing staff, charity contributions, away trip subsidies and supporting ‘legends.’
        Paul McDevitt

        Ratcliffe: What a guy
So the story with Ratcliffe becoming a minority owner was that the Glazers were going to take a step back from poking their noses into sporting matters and hand those reigns over to the man knighted by this country for some reason.

Has anyone else marked how having set out a vision of changing United’s fortunes on the pitch Sir Jim has then been on a crusade to ruthlessly clear out what he sees as deadwood, just like the fans wanted. And word of his exploits have travelled throughout the kingdom. Except his beknighted hands have slain the staff Christmas social, reinforced ticket prices, banished the legendary Sir Alex, culled half of the non-footballing staff. And now he refuses to pay £40k a year to a highly valued charity for former players.

He has been so fastidious in carrying out these quests, none of which really falls under the remit of his declared duties to transform the footballing side of the club.

At least all of his unpopular decisions a man of his noble calling was ‘forced’ to make were for the greater good. I’m sure those lowly souls that have been trampled underfoot will understand that the riches he has brought back into the coffers will have been used to make United Great Again on the pitch.

So his reverse Robin Hood act will surely have been lauded as he spent the majority of the above recouped coin to buy the services of his main deputy, Dan Ashworth, only to kick him out the door before he’d unpacked his coffee mug.

Just in case there was any doubt that the man in charge of footballing matter was whimsically laying waste to everyone not directly involved in footballing matters for the noblist of causes, he also extended the contract of a doomed man for putting on a decent FA Cup final party, none of which the staff were made welcome at and then used their money to pay off said extended contract when the decision proved disastrous. What a guy!

Man Utd fans have lost the art of suffering
That is now three defeats in a row for Man United. My birthday is on 5 January and I fear my birthday “gift” from United will be our 5th loss on the bounce.

I feel that a mistake will not always be mistake. Hiring OGS might have been a mistake after his fantastic audition as caretaker, but would hiring RVN after his impressive caretaker stint also have been a mistake just because hiring a former player that did great as a caretaker was a mistake before?

The players seemed to respond to RVN, respected him. Could he not have got it till the end of the season? Assuming the plan was to bring Amorim in that would have made sense as it also gives Amorim a pre season. Sporting and United would be in much happier places now.

The chance for this is gone now so we can only look forward. Fellow United fans, please give Amorim time.

I am of the unpopular view that Moyes would have made a success of the job if given more time. I also feel that If Mourinho was backed with the players signed for OGS and backed like ETH was, United would have won the league.

United’s downfall is the lack of patience. Fans who forgot how to suffer. If Fergie was managing in today’s world he would never have got the chance to do what he did at Man Utd.

Does anyone else get Villa-Boas vibes from Amorim?
There are some obvious similarities – both were/are young for elite managers, both Portuguese, both recruited to the Prem on the back of success in Portugal, both articulate, handsome and media friendly, both perhaps a bit empty with their media output?

It’s early days, and Amorim obviously needs time to bed in and stamp his personality and tactics on the team, but whilst he is an upgrade, from a media savvy perspective, from Ten Hag, I am far from convinced that he is going to be the cure for the sickness that is at OT.

Liverpool reportedly turned from him because of his tactical intransigence, and it’s difficult not to think that his insistence on trying to make the round peg of the current squad fit into his square hole of a back three is going to take a long time and more than a few squad tweaks to work. If indeed he can make it work in the Premiership.

Villas Boas was quickly found out, and was found wanting within a season. And famously talked all kinds of bollocks in the process. The situation wasn’t the same – he was taking over a Chelsea team in pretty good good health, so expectations were far higher – but I can’t help thinking that Amorim is on a similar path here. He comes across like a man with a free hit.

Maybe he is just super calm (and that’s not a bad thing as such) but I wonder if he’ll be gone by this time next year, another unwanted notch on the United bedpost, with his reputation basically intact (and £10m richer). And I think if that does happen, he won’t lose a great deal of sleep in the meantime because he will understand that to be the manager at United is akin to being Sisyphus, forever trying to push a boulder up a hill without ever reaching the top.

I think his media output going forward will be very telling. Ten Hag couldn’t cope with being in the spotlight, and the poor fella was hung out to dry by the laughable PR support he had. If my suggestion that Amorim and Villas Boas are similar is correct, then look out for Amorim speaking decisively, emphatically, and lacking any kind of substance or actual sense when he does as the pressure cranks up.

United are so far away from the top 4/6/whatever that it is hard to work out what realistic progress will actually look like – would top half come season end be enough? And if so, what would suffice heading into Christmas 25, because challenging for a top 4 spot looks like too much of a reach?

How patient can the fans be, after the wasted years of Ten Hag, Rangnick and Solskjaer?
Mat (yeah I know, could be wishful thinking)

Are Man Utd in a relegation battle?
I don’t know if I was having a ‘Lost In Translation’ moment but it seemed to me like Amorin was implying that MUFC should forget qualifying for Europe and that “survival” means we have a serious relegation battle on our hands.

Our next two games are against Newcastle and Liverpool which no one expects any points from. If results go against us we could be 16th by the end of year.

There isn’t one player playing well enough to get into any of the top 6 sides and I doubt Saka, Salah, Palmer or anyone else could make a difference, let alone any mystery new signings, not the we will even have a budget in January. Strip out a couple of “assets” such as Rashford and Garnacho and the squad is beginning to have that “dead man walking” smell about it.

We had a better team in ’73 when we last went down and I’ve seen better teams since then also go down. When Amorin said that it would get worse before it got better, maybe this is what he meant.
Adidasmufc (I honestly would accept relegation if it guaranteed that the Glazers sold up)

        Use your noggin, Alex
Alex, the fixture makers pandering to Arteta?

If only you’d looked just a game further you’ll see Arsenal play on Jan 1st and then again on Jan 4th, just 2 full days rest between tough away games at Brentford and Brighton, our title rivals Liverpool play on dec 29th then not again until Jan 5th – 6 full days rest!

It’s almost as though every team starts and ends the season on the same days so when one team appears to get a long rest between games they will inevitably have a shorter rest somewhere else.

Euro giants to rival United for midfield dynamo set to be available as a free agent in January – report

Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain have joined the hotly-contested race for Barcelona star and reported Manchester United midfield target Dani Olmo amid unresolved concerns over his registration status.

Olmo was linked to United in the summer but a move never materialised. Following a sensational Euro 2024 campaign in which he was one of Spain’s outstanding performers, he sealed a £50million move to Barcelona.

However, the Blaigrana could only register him on a temporary basis until the end of the calendar year, owing to La Liga’s financial constraints.

If Spain’s football authorities continue to block Olmo’s registration for the second part of the 2024/25 season, the player can leave and join a new club as a free agent. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Barca’s fresh bid to register Olmo was rejected by a commercial court.

Olmos agent – Andy Bara – was in Manchester a few days ago to explore potential transfer destinations for his client.

In addition to United, Manchester City and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

Now, Spanish outlet SPORT have revealed that Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping tabs on him and are “rubbing their hands together” over his situation at Camp Nou.

SPORT say about the United target, “Although the club [Barcelona] will seek to appeal to a higher court and exhaust all possible legal avenues, time is against them, and the chances of resolving this case in a favourable way are dwindling.”

“Meanwhile, in Paris they are keeping a close eye on what is happening.”

“Although no formal move has been made by PSG , there is a sense of expectation in the Parisian team’s entourage given the growing uncertainty at Barça, a context that could open up opportunities in the market if the situation is not resolved.”

PSG boss Luis Enrique is said to be “in love” with Olmo. Enrique also enjoys the advantage of having worked with Olmo before in the Spain national team set-up.

United are back in action later tonight when they host Eddie Howe’s Newcastle at Old Trafford.

Man Utd: Amorim ‘sack’ claim is made as Sutton slams Red Devils duo over ‘under-12s stuff’

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton has hit out at Man Utd duo Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir over recent performances under Ruben Amorim.

The Red Devils are going through a terrible run of form with Amorim’s side losing their last three games in all competitions and have now won just four of their last ten fixtures.

It’s a blow for supporters predicting that Amorim would oversee an immediate turnaround in results and performances with similar inconsistency being shown to Erik ten Hag’s recent reign.

Man Utd face Newcastle on Monday evening with Eddie Howe’s side on a brilliant run of form that has seen them win their last four matches in all competitions.

Newcastle will go fifth in the Premier League table with a win, while Man Utd could climb from 14th to 11th with three points, and Sutton reckons the Red Devils are likely to lose to the Magpies on Monday.

Sutton also criticised Onana and Bayindir’s recent displays in net for Man Utd that saw them each concede a goal direct from a corner.

Former Blackburn Rovers striker Sutton told BBC Sport: “I am not concerned about Amorim getting the sack but it really does not help when your goalkeeper keeps on conceding goals direct from a corner – that is under-12s stuff.

“I remember it happening when I was watching my son play when he was about 15 and he got done off a corner. I told him you would never see it happen to a professional goalkeeper, but it has happened twice in two weeks to Manchester United – first to Altay Bayindir and then Andre Onana. You could not make it up.

“Their fans give me so much stick on social media whenever I say they will lose that it must have got to me a bit – I have become a bit of a chicken and have put them down to get a draw when my gut feeling has been for them to lose.

“That has got to stop, because they are rubbish. That is not on Amorim because we will judge him when he has a chance to bring in his own players but, for now, we have to see them for what they are, which is a really poor side.”

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara reckons Man Utd were playing better under caretaker manager Ruud van Nistelrooy than they are under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport: “Manchester United for me are an absolute disgrace. They’ve brought in a new manager in Ruben Amorim but absolutely nothing’s changed – they were arguably better under Ruud van Nistelrooy.

“Sir Jim Ratcliffe has come in, given it large about bringing back the glory years at the club, but it seems he’s been focussed on being a penny pincher and trying to save money on stewards and staff lunches. They’re Manchester United – they’re meant to be the biggest club in the world. Ratcliffe has arguably embarrassed himself and it’s set such a poor foundation for Amorim to come into.

“You honestly may as well still have the Glazers in charge – at least they tried to spend a bit of money! Ratcliffe is paying Anthony £300k a week yet he’s penny pinching off staff and other areas in the club – it’s an absolute joke and it’s just not Manchester United for me.”

The 39-year-old has inherited a mess at Old Trafford and he’s endured some pain in his first month in the role. Under him, United have lost five of their last ten matches across all competitions.

This poor form leaves Man Utd looking nervously over their shoulders as they risk being dragged into the relegation picture and it’s become increasingly clear that they require upgrades in most positions.

The goalkeeping area has become a problem for Man Utd as Andre Onana and Altar Bayindir have been criticised for their poor performances.

Onana overcame a rough start at Man Utd to become one of their better performers last season, but he has produced a couple of woeful performances recently.

A report from Football Insider claims Amorim has been left ‘raging’ as he’s been ‘unimpressed’ by Onana and Bayindir.

As a result, it’s claimed United are ‘set to sack their chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton’ as the ‘senior man’ is the ‘next in the firing line’.

‘The INEOS-led exodus is intensifying after a huge clearout already of senior staff since they took charge of the football side of the club a year ago.

‘Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim has not been impressed by either number one Andre Onana or his deputy Altar Bayindir since he took charge of the team.’

‘The new United boss has made that clear to the club’s hierarchy and they’re now set to take action on the situation by sacking Coton.

‘He’s next in the firing line as INEOS continues to make difficult decisions that they deem to be in United’s best interest.’

A report from The Daily Star claims Man Utd have already chosen Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen as their ‘favourite’ replacement for Onana.

‘Even before previous boss Erik ten Hag, who signed him from Inter Milan, was sacked, the Cameroon star, 28, was unhappy with life in Manchester. But that situation appears to have worsened following the arrival of Ten Hag’s Portuguese successor Rubin Amorim.

‘The United hierarchy are fully aware of the issue surrounding £47.5million Onana – hence the hunt for a top keeper is already underway. And at present Dutch international Verbruggen, 22, seems to be the favourite on the Old Trafford stopper shopping-list.

‘With more than three years left on his contract on the South Coast, the Seagulls man, a £16.3m buy from Anderlecht in June 2023, would cost around the £30m mark.

‘Any deal is unlikely to happen before next summer, though, meaning United and Onana are stuck together for now.’

Amorim livid with recruitment in this department under Ten Hag with INEOS set to sack the man responsible – report

Manchester United have conceded 10 goals in the last four games including two direct from corners with set-pieces proving to be their Achilles heel.

Ruben Amorim is far from impressed with the performances of both his goalkeepers with backup keeper Altay Bayindir conceding four against Tottenham Hotspur including the first goal straight from a corner.

United’s No 1 Andre Onana repeated the feat against Wolves on Thursday and after a bright start to the campaign, has again made a few high-profile errors recently.

The Portuguese head coach wants a revamp of the goalkeeping department with the club keeping their eyes on Bart Verbruggen and Illan Meslier among others.

                Goalkeepers have let Amorim down

And as per Football Insider, so unhappy with the recruitment is the former Sporting Lisbon boss that he has asked INEOS to sack chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton. Both keepers were recruited when Erik ten Hag was in charge.

“Man United are set to sack their chief goalkeeping scout Tony Coton, sources have told Football Insider.

“Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Ruben Amorim has not been impressed by either number one Andre Onana or his deputy Altar Bayindir since he took charge of the team.

“The new United boss has made that clear to the club’s hierarchy and they’re now set to take action on the situation by sacking Coton.

                Goalkeeping scout to be sacked

“He’s next in the firing line as INEOS continues to make difficult decisions that they deem to be in United’s best interest.”

The new co-owners have been no stranger to staff getting sacked and Coton seems next in line. He has been a long-serving member of staff at Old Trafford and was the goalkeeping coach under Sir Alex Ferguson from 1997 to 2007.

After scouting stints at other clubs, he returned to United in 2020 as chief goalkeeping scout but his tenure could end if this report is to be trusted.

The Red Devils have conceded 24 goals in the league with the team languishing in 14th position with e negative three goal difference.

Man Utd ‘points deduction’: Expert claims Red Devils ‘need the money’ from post-season tour

Man Utd ‘need’ the £8-10million they will get from a post-season tour to make sure they avoid breaking the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR), according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson.

The Red Devils spent around £180m in the summer transfer window as INEOS and Sir Jim Ratcliffe attempted to give Erik ten Hag the tools to be successful this season.

However, that backfired spectacularly with Man Utd sacking Ten Hag at the end of October and replacing him with Ruben Amorim in November.

Widespread reports have indicated that Man Utd are close to the PSR rules after spending over £20m to replace Ten Hag and his staff with Amorim and his entourage.

And now Man Utd could need to go on a money-spinning post-season tour to avoid PSR punishment and a potential ‘points deduction’, according to Football Insider.

The Red Devils are reportedly planning a post-season tour of Malaysia and ex-Man City financial adviser Borson reckons Man Utd “probably need that £8-10million to meet PSR”.

Borson told Football Insider: “You compare it with what City and Chelsea have put in place for their players after they have agreed to be in the Club World Cup.

“One game in Malaysia is nothing compared to a whole Club World Cup over half of June and half of July.

“I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. I know the players of Newcastle and Tottenham made a big fuss about it last season, but it doesn’t seem like a big deal to me.

“I think the interesting thing is they need the money.

“United probably need that £8-10million to meet PSR given the extra spending they have had this year on management changes.

“That would be my best guess as to why they want to do it.

“Clearly, it’s for the money. But I think there is an urgency to it, so I wonder whether it’s that optional.

“It may be that they have got a hole in the profit and loss account that they need to fill by generating a chunk of cash from a game, and this is the only way they can do it.”

One player who has taken to Amorim’s way of playing is Amad Diallo with the 22-year-old playing well as a right wing-back in a 3-4-3 formation.

When asked about being part of a group of emerging talent at Man Utd, Diallo said: “We are part of the project, we have so many young players for this club, especially Garna, Kobbie, Joshua [Zirkzee], Rasmus [Hojlund], me, we are young players who want to make history for this club.

“We want to do our best every game. Sometimes it cannot work, but you can see in the pitch we our very focused to do our best for this club, because we want to bring back this club to the level it was before.

“So, for the young lads, we just have to keep going, work hard and the most important thing is to listen to the old men, the old players, learn every day.

“We have now a new manager, he likes to work with young players, and he brings a new system, so we just have to follow it and try to do our best every game.”

United have “huge chance” of sealing deal for insanely talented 19-yo taking Championship by storm – report

Manchester United are reportedly very keen on signing Sunderland midfielder Jude Bellingham in the upcoming year.

The middle of the park is an area of the pitch United are eager to strengthen, especially amidst the uncertain future of Christian Eriksen and Casemiro.

Both United stars continue to be linked to exits in the near future and if they leave, they’ll almost certainly need to be replaced. Combine this with Mason Mount’s persistent injury struggles and it makes sense why the Red Devils are keen on midfield reinforcements.

Some of the midfielders mentioned to be on the radar of Ruben Amorim’s side include Dani Olmo (Barcelona), Arthur Vermeeren (RB Leipzig), Daba Diakite (Djoliba AC), Ederson (Atalanta), and Christopher Nkunku (Chelsea), among others.

Now, UtdDistrict reveal that United are plotting a swoop for Jobe Bellingham, the younger brother of Real Madrid superstar Jude Bellingham.

According to the news outlet, “Manchester United are interested in signing Jude Bellingham’s younger brother Jobe in the next year after the teenager impressed the club’s recruitment staff.”

“United have been keeping tabs on the Championship starlet at Sunderland and he has impressed the club’s recruitment staff.”

“It would be unlikely that a mid-season move is struck, especially due to United’s well-reported preference to sign a left wingback in January.”

Jobe Bellingham has made 20 Championship appearances so far, scoring four goals and providing three assists in that period.

It’s been suggested that the 19-year-old could cost around £20 million.

United missed out on signing his older brother in 2020 when he chose to join Borussia Dortmund. Now, the 20-time English champions appear to have an opportunity to bring his sibling on board.

It remains uncertain whether Jobe Bellingham would be willing to make the leap from the Stadium of Light and become the newest addition to United’s squad.

Meanwhile, United return to action on Monday when they host Newcastle at Old Trafford. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT.

Wage demands of superstar perfect for Amorim’s system will “be an obstacle”, no longer a “priority target” – Athletic

Manchester United have been playing without a recognised left-back for the best part of two years now and Ruben Amorim is desperate for reinforcements in the department.

Luke Shaw has managed only three appearances this season, missing 25 games thus far while last term, he missed more than 30 matches due to persistent niggles.

Tyrell Malacia missed the whole of the previous campaign and has really struggled since his return this season, not lasting more than 45 minutes in any of his appearances.

Diogo Dalot has been forced to play at left wingback even though the head coach has claimed that his compatriot is more suited to his favoured right flank.

                      Left wingback needed

There have been reports of INEOS signing someone in January but that someone is certainly not going to be Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

The Canadian is set to become a free agent in the summer and there have been contrasting reports about his contract talks with the Bavarian giants.

Real Madrid and United were among his leading suitors with Liverpool also keeping a close eye ahead of a potential summer raid.

But The Athletic have now claimed that the soon-to-be free agent’s wage demands could scupper a move to Old Trafford.
That is why he is not being seen as a priority target at present.

                      Davies off the menu

“United’s need for wing-backs and Alphonso Davies’ expiring contract has led to the Bayern Munich left-back being linked with Old Trafford in recent months.

“But even if joining as a free agent in the summer, his level of salary would likely be an obstacle. The 24-year-old is not considered a priority target at present.”

United have a couple of more economical options in mind, which include the likes of Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and Wolves’ Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Among overseas players, the club is also keeping tabs on Girona’s Miguel Gutierrez and Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu while the Old Trafford outfit posses a €20 million buy-back option for Benfica’s Alvaro Fernandez Carreras.
