United scout spotted at key game, could be a big hint about January transfer plans – report

Manchester United appear to be doing some scouting as they prepare for the start of the January transfer window.

A report from O Jogo via Sport Witness claimed that a Man United official was spotted attending FC Porto’s 4-0 victory over Boavista at Estádio do Dragão on Saturday.

Although there was no word on the exact players that the scout may have been focused on, there are multiple targets who may have been considered, given recent transfer links ahead of the winter transfer window.

Earlier this month, The Peoples Person discussed United’s links with two Porto stars, namely left-back Francisco Moura and striker Samu Aghehowa. According to the report, United sent scouts to monitor the players in action, thereby signalling the club’s intent.

Reports of United’s interest in Aghehowa are nothing new, with Ruben Amorim believed to have taken an interest in the Spanish forward following United’s 3-3 draw with Porto in the UEFA Europa League earlier this season.

Such interest is surely warranted, given the youngster’s impeccable track record in Liga Portugal this season. Aghehowa has netted a remarkable 13 goals in 13 games so far this season while providing two assists.

Furthermore, he has a 41% goal conversion rate, showing just how lethal his finishing is. (Stats via Sofascore)

As for Moura, he too could make for a valuable addition to the squad in January. With Luke Shaw injured as Tyrell Malacia as the only available natural left-back, the Portuguese defender’s talent could come in great use for Amorim.

So far, he has kept seven clean sheets in 14 league games while making 1.4 tackles per game. He has also won 54% of his aerial duels, making use of his 181 cm frame. (Sofascore)

Regardless of which star United’s scout was paying attention to, it’s clear that the club is in need of reinforcements at both left-back and striker.

Neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee have hit the ground running this season, with the pair contributing just five Premier League goals between them this season.

While it’s fair to say that Malacia has struggled to find his form after returning from injury, Shaw’s vulnerability to injuries means that a long-term solution at the position of left-back will be required.

Hopefully, INEOS will see fit to allow Amorim some flexibility in the transfer market, particularly as he looks to improve the club’s fortunes following the shambolic start to the current campaign.

“I am loving it”: United youngster expresses delight with loan opportunity at “special club” – report

Manchester United loanee James Nolan has spoken out on his time so far at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 19 year old signed a new deal at Old Trafford a year ago but joined the Scottish outfit this summer in pursuit of more regular game time.

The defender has certainly gained valuable first team experience as he has played 17 games in all competitions and even scored his first ever senior goal in September.

Speaking to the Inverness Courier, Nolan revealed he is having a great time north of the border.

“I am loving it,” he said. “This is a really nice place to live. All the lads are top, the gaffer is top. It is a special club to be at.”

Nolan revealed that he has not been forgotten by United as he has phone calls “every week” with his parent club asking about his progress.

“They have been really supportive and I need to thank Manchester United and Inverness for the opportunity.”

He claimed that he is delighted with the fact he is gaining immense experience playing senior football as he had only ever trained with the United first team but never represented them in a match.

Elaborating on his experiences so far, “it has always been under-21’s football. Coming here has opened my eyes about how good the standard is and how hard it is to play the professional game that all kids dream of. But I am lucky enough to do that.”

Nolan has joined Inverness at a tough time as they find themselves ninth out of ten teams in the Scottish League One.

They were beaten 4-1 by Cove Rangers on Saturday and discussing the team’s recent form the United youngster stated, “it was a tough game, but it is one we can learn from definitely. We will come back on Monday and pick the pieces out of it.”

Nolan will next be in action when Inverness host Dumbarton this coming Saturday afternoon.

Huge Marcus Rashford update emerges hours before United clash against Newcastle – report

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is reportedly set to recall Marcus Rashford for the club’s meeting with Newcastle later this evening.

Rashford has dominated headlines over the past few weeks amidst speculation over his future at United.

The England international was dropped from United’s matchday squad that beat Manchester City earlier this month. Amorim insisted that his decision to exclude Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho was because the pair failed to match his high standards across a number of areas.

Since then, Rashford has failed to feature in any of the subsequent matchday squads. He has not been available for selection in matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

After the defeat to Wolves, Amorim strongly suggested that Rashford was yet to show him enough to warrant being back in the team.

However, it seems this may change. According to club insider @UtdMenace on X [via GIVEMESPORT], Rashford could be back in the team for tonight’s meeting with Newcastle at Old Trafford.

It’s understood that Rashford’s recall is mostly because several players are absent.

Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are both suspended for the match. Fernandes was shown a red card in the last game while Ugarte picked up his fifth booking of the campaign.

Amorim will also not be able to count on the services of a number of injured players including Luke Shaw, Victor Lindelof and Mason Mount.

It remains to be seen whether Rashford starts on the bench or is thrust into the starting XI immediately. The former appears more likely.

However, if he is afforded some minutes, the clash represents a solid opportunity for the 27-year-old to silence some of his critics and show he still has plenty to offer under Amorim.

United vs. Newcastle kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

‘Of course, I like’ – La Liga star reacts to Man Utd links and makes phone call claim

Real Sociedad midfielder Luka Sucic has reacted positively to speculation linking him with a move to Man Utd ahead of the January transfer window.

The Red Devils are being linked to numerous players with the winter market set to open in the new year and Ruben Amorim’s side in desperate need of an overhaul.

Amorim has come across similar problems to his predecessors at Old Trafford with the new Man Utd boss also struggled for consistency in performances and results.

One player who has been linked with improving Amorim’s side is Real Sociedad midfielder Sucic, who signed from Red Bull Salzburg in the summer transfer window.

After making 18 appearances since joining the La Liga side, reports have emerged claiming that Man Utd are interested ahead of the winter market but Sucic is not aware of their interest.

Sucic told Sportske Novosti: “I was told of such a possibility that appeared in public. I read about it myself later.

“No one called me from England. I’m contracted to Real Sociedad, where I feel good, nice, where I fit in perfectly. Did the clubs talk? I don’t know, and I’m not bothered by this topic. There have been stories like this before, and there will be again.”

When asked specifically about links to Man Utd, Sucic added: “United are a global giant, a respected giant in the world of football. Of course, I like my name associated with the Red Devils, but I’m keeping my feet on the ground.”

Man Utd director Christopher Vivell knows Sucic from their time at Red Bull Salzburg and reportedly recommended the midfielder to the Red Devils’ recruitment team.

When asked about this, Sucic continued: “Mr. Vivell knows me well from my Red Bull days, I can only say that, and unfortunately I cannot know what anyone does and does in the football business. They say that the Lord’s ways are strange, and so are professional football players…”

Man Utd boss Amorim insists that he knew what he was signing up for when he took the job at Old Trafford after a difficult start to his tenure.

Speaking in today’s matchday programme ahead of their match against Newcastle, Amorim said: “When I took this job, I knew that I was signing up for a lot of work.

“If we are to make the long-term changes that we want to make to Manchester United, then we have to go through that step by step. We are looking to implement a new way of playing, at the busiest time of the year, so there are short-term costs for our long-term aims.

“I will say, though, that the players are working hard to take on and use all the new information and instructions they are getting. The longer they do this, the easier it will become for them, and then the comfort and confidence in our game will grow.”

United receive significant bonus in pursuit of World Cup finalist – report

Manchester United have received a bonus in their pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani, as Chelsea are reportedly not interested in signing the forward.

The Red Devils are keen to add more firepower to their feeble attack, as they have only scored 21 goals in 18 Premier League matches this season.

Numerous strikers such as Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but one player that looks more certain to depart his current club in January is Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the Frenchman is “almost guaranteed” to leave the French champions this January.

It is expected that the forward will move to the Premier League and it has also been stated that Ruben Amorim is keen for United to do a deal ahead of their rivals for the World Cup finalist.

Whilst teams such as Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal have all been credited with an interest in the player, one team who appear to have dropped out of the race is Chelsea.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, “Randal Kolo Muani is not in Chelsea’s plans.”

They have a “natural respect for the player, but no approach expected in January.”

“Chelsea have several names on their list of possible striker options for 2025, but nothing imminent, and big confidence in Nicolas Jackson.”

Whilst Arsenal, Spurs and City will still be tough competition, the removal of Chelsea is certainly a relief as the Blues have proven time and time again that they will splash the cash to secure the signings they want.

Kolo Muani is currently suffering a poor season as he has only found the back of the net twice in 14 matches in all competitions.

With less than two days until the opening of the transfer window, there should be movement on the future of the 26 year old in the not so distant future.

Defiant Amorim makes big Man United prediction ahead of must-win clash vs. Newcastle

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has predicted that the project will eventually be successful despite the current troubles plaguing the club.

United suffered a third consecutive defeat across all competitions on Boxing Day, as Wolves beat them 2-0 at Molineux.

The Red Devils are currently in 14th place in the Premier League and just eight points above the relegation zone.

However even in the face of this woeful state of affairs, Amorim – who has lost five of his 10 games as head coach – has insisted that United have enough to turn the situation around and embark on the right track.

In his notes for the final United Review of 2024, he also emphasised the need to endure short-term pain for long-term benefit.

Amorim wrote [via the club website], “When I took this job, I knew that I was signing up for a lot of work.”

“If we are to make the long-term changes that we want to make to Manchester United, then we have to go through that step by step. We are looking to implement a new way of playing, at the busiest time of the year, so there are short-term costs for our long-term aims.”

“We also have to work on longer-term objectives such as creating the right environment and culture for success, and working on the pathway between our Academy and first team to develop players with the qualities we need to reach our high ambitions as a club.”

“I have seen enough in the last few weeks to recognise that we have many of the ingredients we need for success, and I remain as convinced as I was on my first day here that we will achieve it.”

He also sent a message to match-going fans.

“I would like to thank you on behalf of everyone at Manchester United for your loyal support, and wish you all the very best for the new year.”

“I know that it will take a lot of hard work from everyone to get there, but I am very excited about where we can go together in 2025.”

United must hand creative keys to 12 G+A star to shoot down Magpies this evening – analysis

Manchester United will welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford this evening, aiming to avoid a fourth consecutive loss in all competitions.

The Red Devils will have to make do without numerous first team options, especially in the midfield as both Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte are suspended for the match.

One issue United will have to deal with as a consequence of this is the lack of intensity in midfield.

Ruben Amorim has claimed that he wants his team to run like “mad dogs” but without Ugarte, this task seems significantly more complicated.

What’s more, Newcastle are one of the hardest working, highest pressing teams in the league, so there is a real danger that they will expose Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo’s lack of intensity on and off the ball.

Another obvious aspect United must pay significant attention to is set piece defending. Since Ruben Amorim has come into the club, the team’s record at defending free kicks and corner kicks has been nothing short of shambolic.

United have conceded goals from set pieces against Arsenal, Nottingham Forest, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, AFC Bournemouth and Wolverhampton Wanders, and this is only in the month of December.

Stopping Newcastle from taking advantage of this sizeable weakness will be one of the most important things United do if they are to end 2024 on a positive note.

The Magpies are also very dangerous in transition and will look to get in behind the United defence with the pace and power of Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon.

Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt will be massively important in this match, especially Yoro’s pace to keep up with Newcastle’s rapid attackers.

Finally, United will need Amad Diallo to step up to the plate to replace the creative threat of Bruno Fernandes.

The Ivorian has arguably been the club’s player of the season, especially after the departure of Erik ten Hag, as he has scored five goals and provided seven assists all season.

Diallo impressed last season against the same opposition, scoring and assisting in a 3-2 victory last time out, so will know he has the tools to hurt the Geordies’ defence. Moreover, his links to Sunderland will also certainly give him a little extra motivation to damage the Magpies’ European aspirations.

If United are to get the result Old Trafford is desperate for, they will need to allow the 22 year old the creative keys to the match.

Man Utd: Spanish side make ‘first moves’ to sign ‘ostracised’ Ten Hag signing after failed ‘stratospheric transfer’

Man Utd have held talks with Real Betis over allowing Antony to leave on a potential loan to the Spanish side in January, according to reports.

The Red Devils have had an appalling season with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 14th in the Premier League table ahead of their match against Newcastle on Monday night.

Amorim is finding it hard to turn around their inconsistent performances and results with the Portuguese head coach winning just four of his first 10 matches in charge of Man Utd.

Antony, who signed from Ajax for £85m in 2022, has played 349 minutes in all competitions this season over 11 appearances, three of which have been in the starting XI.

His time in the team has slightly improved since the arrival of Amorim as manager but it’s understood that the new Man Utd head coach is unlikely to stand in the way of his exit from Old Trafford.

And now Spanish outlet ABC de Sevilla insist that Real Betis are ‘monitoring the situation of a footballer who is theoretically out of the Betis’ financial reach but in Heliópolis they want to exhaust the options of convincing the parties to incorporate him on advantageous conditions’.

The player they are referring to is Antony at Man Utd and the winger is ‘on the table of Betis officials as a possible January reinforcement given the player’s ostracism at his club, his desire to change leagues and the footballing conditions that fit the Betis squad to be able to be recovered in the hands of Manuel Pellegrini after having caused a stir in 2022 with a stratospheric transfer of one hundred million euros from Ajax to United.’

A potential loan is seen as ‘very difficult’ for Betis to pull off because of Antony’s salary ‘but the operation that is initially proposed as a loan includes sharing the salary with United and the player giving up amounts to be able to address his arrival, which also depends on the departure of some Betis asset such as Assane, who has been valued at around fifteen million euros’.

                  ABC de Sevilla adds:

‘With this entry, a good part of Antony’s cost could be covered, although it is necessary to take into account the competition that Betis will have when it comes to signing a player of this level, with many candidates on the market given the level he displayed not so long ago with his national team and with Ajax , mainly (with 22 goals and 24 assists in 82 official matches), although he is on the decline at United being only 24 years old.’

Three storylines United fans are buzzing over ahead of tonight’s visit from Newcastle United

Manchester United will take on Newcastle United aiming to finish a disappointing 2024 on a high.

The Red Devils have lost five out of their last seven matches in all competitions.

Historically United have a strong record against the Magpies, winning 92 times and drawing 41.

They have lost 46 times out of the 179 times they have played one another.

Here are three storylines to follow in this crucial match.

United’s incredible home record versus Newcastle

While it is currently all doom and gloom around the team, United actually have an incredible home record versus the Geordies.

According to the BBC, “Manchester United’s only defeat in their last 39 league matches at home to Newcastle was by 1-0 in December 2013 under David Moyes.”

United did lose 0-3 at Old Trafford in a League Cup fourth-round tie last season but won the league match 3-2 with goals from Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Rasmus Hojlund.

In fact, apart from the 2013 league meeting with David Moyes, you need to go back to February 1972 to find the last time the Magpies tasted victory at Old Trafford in a league match.

In the last ten Premier League games at United’s home stadium, the Red Devils have won seven and drawn two.

                    Historically bad current run

In contrast to their great form versus Newcastle, the Red Devils are currently suffering one of their worst ever seasons, certainly in modern times.

“Manchester United could lose three consecutive league matches at home for the first time since December 1978 to February 1979. They last conceded three or more goals in three successive league fixtures at Old Trafford in October 1962.”

The Red Devils have not lost three league games in a row without scoring since May 2015.

The United fan base don’t ask for much, but they will be praying that at least a goal and a draw is within the powers of their beleaguered team.

                    Martin Dubravka’s return

With Newcastle’s Nick Pope sidelined, there will be a return for former United keeper Dubravka.

The Slovakian spent four months on loan at United in 2022 before returning back to Newcastle in the January window.

He only played a total of two games for the Red Devils in the League Cup but did secure a winner’s medal as United won the competition the month after he left.

Eddie Howe has praised the performances of the keeper lately and United fans will be hoping he won’t enjoy his return to Old Trafford.

Real Betis have reportedly contacted Manchester United about a January loan deal for Antony.

Antony has often come under intense criticism for his poor performances at United since he joined the club from Ajax in a deal worth around £86million.

He has yet to start a Premier League match this season and has been limited to just two league appearances from the bench since Ruben Amorim’s appointment as Erik ten Hag’s replacement.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are prepared to cut their losses and offload Antony next month when the winter transfer window opens.

His agent recently revealed that they have received plenty of offers although United have yet to make it clear whether or not they want to part ways with him.

Antony’s representative even suggested that the player is willing to leave United on loan in search of regular first-team minutes.

According to journalist Mateo González of ABC de Sevilla, La Liga club Real Betis are prepared to offer Antony a way out of Old Trafford in January.

González claims, “The name of the 24-year-old Brazilian international is on the table of Betis officials as a possible January reinforcement given the player’s ostracism at his club, his desire to change leagues and the footballing conditions that fit the Betis squad

“The operation is considered “very difficult” at the Betis club but the first moves have already been made through the sporting management led by Fajardo [Betis sporting director] and the Brazilian’s agents, who are in favour of the green-and-white possibility of relaunching Antony’s career.”

“Antony has a huge salary that Betis cannot fully reach but the operation that is initially proposed as a loan includes sharing the salary with United and the player giving up amounts to be able to address his arrival.”

In addition to only covering part of Antony’s salary, the winger’s switch to Estadio Benito Villamarín is dependent on the departure of another player such as Assane Diao.

González notes that Betis aren’t the only party pursuing Antony. There are “many candidates” who admire him given his past performances at Ajax.

Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini considers Antony “ideal” for his brand of football and while the deal is undoubtedly complex, the Spanish outfit don’t consider it impossible.
