Fabrizio Romano: United’s loan offer competing with Spurs, Chelsea transfer offers for sizzling French striker

The race is heating up for Manchester United target Mathys Tel as the club have reportedly made a loan offer for the 19 year old.

United have already added Diego Leon, Ayden Heaven and Patrick Dorgu but still have another signing in their sights.

With Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho’s futures still up in the air, the Red Devils have been linked to a plethora of attacking options.

It was reported this week that one such option was Bayern Munich’s Tel, whose agents are believed to have offered the player to the club ahead of the transfer deadline.

The story moved forward yesterday as ultra-reliable journalist David Ornstein claimed that United were indeed interested in making a move for the attacking player.

There was even more exciting news for United fans yesterday when it was relayed here that the 19 year old favoured a move to Old Trafford despite the numerous others clubs chasing his signature.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided another update this morning with only five days of the window left.

He posted on X, “the race for Mathys Tel is starting to heat up with Premier League clubs pushing.”

“Tottenham open to invest on permanent transfer — as their director was in attendance in Munich last night.”

“Chelsea are still there also for permanent deal, Man United called for a loan deal.”

Therefore, United’s interest in a loan deal may benefit them as Bayern Munich may not be prepared to completely let go of such a young talent so readily.

Tel played 62 minutes of Bayern Munich’s final Champions League game last night against Slovan Bratislava and seemed to wave goodbye to the home fans, suggesting a move could certainly be on the cards.

The young French winger has played 14 games this season for Bayern, failing to score and providing one assist.

He was much more involved last season under Thomas Tuchel as he played 41 games and scored 10 goals, while providing six assists.

“It’s still raw”: United Women’s star opens up on toughest months of her career

Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone has paid an emotional tribute to her father who died last September.

The England international received the terrible news of the loss of her dad at the start of the season and soon got injured in the autumn.

Toone has returned in magnificent form after the winter break and has scored five goals in four games since Christmas, including a sensational hat trick versus Manchester City in the league.

Writing in The Players’ Tribune, she opened up on the darkest time of her career.

“When he passed, it was a big shock, even to some of the people closest to him, because no one hardly knew he was ill,” Toone wrote. “People ask me now, ‘Why didn’t you tell us?’ And I’m like, I didn’t know either. I didn’t know half of it.”

“For the past few months, I’ve been trying to figure it all out, trying to get unstuck. It’s still raw. I still feel the pain digging in, the gutting feeling of not having him here anymore.”

The United number seven admitted that even months after his death that she still feels he will return and isn’t really gone.

The 25 year old also paid tribute to her father’s role in her development as a professional and told the amusing story of how he promised her £10 per goal as a six year old and had to part with £100 after she scored 10 goals in a match.

“Dad was always the one who kept me grounded, especially as the spotlight got bigger. I went from this little girl who wanted to play football and not really having many people to look up to in the women’s game, to being a part of it.”

Toone commented that she first noticed something was wrong when her Dad did not travel to see England take on Norway in Euro 2022 in Brighton as he usually always made the journey to see her matches.

Moreover, she also revealed that the first time she was made aware of the true severity of the situation was after last season’s FA Cup final victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

“I’m still processing. This is my first try at really talking about it. Like dad said, the Toones are not great at feelings. But I wanted to write this, for anyone grieving and feeling alone.”

Chelsea transfer: Three Garnacho alternatives named as Man Utd make new demand with five exits mooted

According to reports, Chelsea are considering three potential alternatives to Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho.

The Blues are in the market for a new forward before the January transfer window closes on Monday night and they have been heavily linked with Garnacho.

Man Utd are looking to offload talents to raise funds for a huge rebuild and Garnacho is attracting more interest than most of his teammates.

It remains to be seen whether a deal can be finalised before the transfer deadline and a report from GiveMeSport on Wednesday claimed Man Utd want a resolution in the ‘next 48 hours’.

‘Manchester United have decided they will only entertain sanctioning Garnacho’s exit if Chelsea or fellow suitors Napoli head to the negotiating table with a formal proposal in the next 48 hours, according to GMS sources, as Amorim is desperate to avoid a deadline day saga and stopping short of forcing him out.

‘GMS sources have been informed that Manchester United do not want uncertainty over Garnacho’s future to drag beyond Friday as it would give Amorim limited opportunities to recruit a replacement, meaning Chelsea and Napoli are in a race against time if they want to acquire his services.’

A new report from The Daily Mail claims Chelsea are ‘targeting’ three Garnacho alternatives as they are aware that this deal ‘could go down to the wire’.

‘Chelsea are willing to bide their time for Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho, that being a deal which could go down to the wire.

‘Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens and Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams are also on the winger shortlist. Bayern Munich’s Mathys Tel is wanted, with Chelsea encouraged by him being an unused substitute in their last three games at the time of writing.

‘Ipswich’s Liam Delap is liked, but that would be a transfer for the summer, not now.’

The report has also brought up five players who could leave and named three ‘like a new signing’ candidates.

‘Axel Disasi is wanted by Aston Villa, Wolves and other clubs in Europe. Villa sound the closest to landing the defender currently and they also like Joao Felix, who wants game time after being a £46.3million bench-warmer this season.

‘Meanwhile, Chelsea are working on selling Cesare Casadei, and if they can, they would like to get Carney Chukwuemeka and Ben Chilwell off the books.

‘Everton could make a move for Chukwuemeka or Chilwell on loan, but in order for that to work, Chelsea would need to cancel Armando Broja’s season-long loan at Goodison Park first.

‘If Chelsea do not land a left winger, 18-year-old academy kid Tyrique George has shown enough promise that he should be granted more opportunities in the Premier League.

‘Trevoh Chalobah has come back from his season-long loan to Crystal Palace to help with the defensive deficiencies.

‘And if Maresca decides he needs to try someone else in goal, he can turn to Filip Jorgensen, the 22-year-old who was signed in the summer for £20.7m from Villarreal.’

“I can guarantee you”: United star gives bullish prediction about club’s future under Amorim

Manchester United full back Diogo Dalot has boldly predicted that the Old Trafford side will soon have success again despite their poor league form this season.

Last season’s players’ player of the year has been an ever-present in the team, playing 34 times already this season.

He has had to fill in numerous times at left wing-back despite his preference for a spot on the right but with Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu on the cusp of joining, it seems that he will soon receive more consistent minutes at right wing-back.

Speaking to Owen Hargreaves for the Premier League’s Masterclass series, Dalot spoke of his hope that current coach Ruben Amorim will be successful for many years at United.

“Obviously, there’s been a change in manager and I hope this manager stays for 10 years and we can build a new Man United history with trophies and wins,” he said.

The 25 year old was also bullish about United’s future claiming, “I can guarantee you. If it’s now or in the future, I can guarantee this club will win again. I am 100 per cent sure of it. It’s too big not to.”

The Portugal international has been linked with moves away, most eye-catchingly to Real Madrid, but he expressed how happy he was at the club by stating, “I don’t think there is a better place to be when you are winning and when you are actually competing. I don’t think there is anywhere else you could desire to be.”

On joining the club in 2018 he said it was an “easy decision” and that as soon as you get the call from United “it is different”.

He did open up on the unique pressures of playing for a club like United and that you need to find a balance. He admitted it took him a long time and it wasn’t until four years into his stay at Old Trafford that he was able to play at his true level for the team.

“I don’t think you can teach somebody to be ready for that. As soon as you arrive at this club, it’s a shock in every aspect, for the positive and the negative. For you to find that balance of being able to cope with the pressure, with the highs and lows, it takes some time.”

Finally the Portuguese hailed the influence of his former club teammate and compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo on his career.

“I have said this a couple of times, as soon as I met him (Ronaldo) my life in football changed completely. Because I saw something.”

“I already considered myself, before I met him, a good professional. But he pushed me to another level.”

Dalot has already spoken of his need to be more of a leader in the dressing room as he closes in on his 200th appearance for the club.

Manchester United’s Ethan Ennis grabbed an assist in Doncaster Rovers’ 3-1 away win against Barrow AFC on Wednesday night.

The 20 year old made his fourth appearance for the side after making his loan move in January.

The United youngster started on the left wing and played 80 minutes before being subbed off.

Ennis received a score of 7 from Sofascore for his night’s work as his side stayed second in the League Two table with the victory.

The United man’s biggest contribution was an assist on 78 minutes for Luke Molyneux’s second goal of the night and the Rovers’ third.

Molyneux played a short corner to Ennis, who laid the ball off for the right winger who curled a long-range effort into the far corner to make the points safe for the visitors.

Ennis had 37 touches of the ball and completed 14 out of his 19 passes for a passing accuracy of 74%.

He also completed two out of his three long passes, showing off his range.

The United man did fail to have any shots on or off target in the match and this is surely something he will try and rectify in the next match.

The 20 year old was also competitive in his ground duels, winning five out of his eight attempts.

He did struggle to assert himself in the air as he lost all five of his aerial battles in the match.

Defensively he also contributed with one clearance and two tackles to help his side take home a very valuable three points as they seek promotion to League One.

Donny will next be in action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome MK Dons to the Eco-Power Stadium, where they will be looking to close the gap on Ethan Wheatley’s Walsall at the top of the table.

Three big stories United fans are buzzing about ahead of tonight’s Europa League match

Three big stories United fans are buzzing about ahead of tonight’s Europa League match

Manchester United travel to The National Arena in Bucharest to take on FCSB in the last match of the Europa League opening phase.

The Red Devils have never played against their hosts in what will be an historic fixture.

The Romanians do not have the best record against English sides as they have lost their last seven games against them with an aggregate score of 20 goals conceded and two scored.

United’s travelling away fans will hope history repeats itself tonight.

Here are some storylines to dig into before the match.

Both sides aiming for the top eight

In what promises to be a frantic night with all 18 fixtures happening simultaneously, both sides will be keen to secure their place in the top eight.

United currently sit fourth in the table after the last-gasp victory over Rangers last week.

FCSB are eighth and only one point behind the Red Devils.

A win could see Ruben Amorim’s side rise as high as second but a loss could also see them drop out of the top eight which would mean United would need to take part in the playoff round to decide if they would make it to the last 16 phase.

Therefore, there will be much to play for tonight for both sides in what promises to be a highly competitive affair.

United’s strong record versus Romanian sides

Whilst the Red Devils do not have any previous matches against tonight’s opponents they have had experience with teams from Romania before.

“Manchester United have won five of their six meetings with Romanian sides in all competitions” according to the BBC.

In the 2004/2005 season they beat FC Dinamo Bucuresti 5-1 on aggregate to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.

In 2011 they defeated Otelul Galati 2-0 home and away.

They also beat CFR Cluj 2-1 in Romania but shockingly lost 0-1 at Old Trafford in their final group game of the Champions League group in 2012.

Unbeaten away record in group stage

Despite poor form domestically, United have been relatively solid in Europe as they are unbeaten in their first seven games, winning four and drawing three.

They drew 3-3 away to FC Porto and 1-1 in Turkiye versus Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. They also won 2-1 away to Viktoria Plzen before Christmas.

“Manchester United have not lost any of their last six away UEFA Europa League group stage matches, four wins and two draws, since losing 2-1 at Astana in November 2019.”

The travelling fans will certainly hope they can finish the league stage in similar fashion tonight to avoid the hassle of an extra two games and secure automatic passage to the last 16.

3-4-3: Onana, De Ligt, Ugarte, Amad and Hojlund drop to bench for decisive Europa League match – prediction

Ruben Amorim has no new injury problems ahead of tonight’s Europa League clash with Romanian side FCSB (formerly Steaua Bucharest) in Bucharest.

There were concerns over Matthijs de Ligt when he was taken off against Fulham on Sunday, but he has trained and travelled so should be OK. He may though be benched as a safeguard.

The fact that Leny Yoro accompanied Amorim to the press conference could be an indication that the Frenchman will replace him.

We expect Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez to join Yoro in the back three.

Luke Shaw is back in training but has not travelled. Victor Lindelof is available but has had no match practice so is unlikely to start. Jonny Evans is still injured.

With United likely, but by no means certain, to get direct qualification into the last 16 even if they drop points, the boss could well decide to rest a couple of other players.

Altay Bayindir may get another chance in goal. He was selected for the last Europa League game and acquitted himself well. It would also give Andre Onana a break.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui will probably stay in the wing back positions although Tyrell Malacia could come in for one of them.

Toby Collyer could replace Manu Ugarte in central midfield and Kobbie Mainoo could come in for Amad, with Bruno Fernandes pushing back up to replace the Ivorian on the right of the attack.

Amad has been United’s big star of the season so far, but could be kept in cotton wool for this one with a Premier League match just three days later against a tricky Crystal Palace side.

Casemiro and Christian Eriksen are other midfield options. Mason Mount is still injured.

Rasmus Hojlund was very poor again against Fulham so Josh Zirkzee is likely to replace him.

Alejandro Garnacho should keep his place as the left sided 10.

Marcus Rashford is still excluded from the squad.

Here then is our predicted XI for tonight’s 8pm GMT kick-off:

Man Utd: Rashford ‘ashamed’ as club legend spots ’embarrassing’ Carrington training snub

Roy Keane says Marcus Rashford must be “ashamed” over his Manchester United exile while Wayne Rooney revealed an “embarrassing” training ground snub over the weekend.

Rashford hasn’t featured for United since mid-December when he was dropped for the Manchester derby, after which he revealed his desire for “a new challenge”.

The 27-year-old’s representatives have held talks with a number of clubs over a loan move this month but his mammoth £325,000-per-week wages are proving to be a significant hurdle to any deal.

With just four days to go before the transfer window closes, it looks likely that Rashford will be forced to remain at Old Trafford for the rest of the season.

It means the England international will need to buck up his ideas in order to play after Ruben Amorim claimed he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than any player not putting in the required effort in training.

READ MORE: Arsenal 5th), Barcelona 3rd): Marcus Rashford’s six end-of-window outcomes ranked on likelihood

United hero Keane admitted he can’t understand how any player isn’t putting in the hard yards.

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Keane said: “I can’t get involved in the conversation.

“I still can’t understand at any level – whatever’s going on with players leaving, months left on contracts – a player who doesn’t train properly.

“I don’t understand it; you might as well leave me out of this conversation.

“Especially if you think he wants to move, which is more of a reason to train properly so when you go to a new club you’re up to speed and when you leave the club at least you showed a decent attitude. He must be ashamed.”

Rashford was spotted training with the first-team ahead of their Europa League clash with FCSB on Thursday and reports claim he has undertaken extra sessions to stay fit.

But Wayne Rooney revealed he recently spotted Rashford working away from the main group with a United coach, and labelled the situation “embarrassing”.

“I went into Carrington on Sunday to take my kids to game day and Marcus Rashford was out on the training pitch with the fitness coach, but he was right over towards where the parents were walking past for the kids’ games,” said Rooney.

“I looked at him thinking how embarrassing it must be for him as parents walk past.”

Gary Neville believes Amorim’s scathing comments on Rashford are solely down to the club’s business decision to offload him this month.

“I know that Ruben Amorim is honest,” said Neville. “I do believe that he wants the money back for Marcus Rashford, he’s said that [about him training] to probably shine a light on him and get him out of the club.

“They’re probably asking Marcus to take a wage cut to leave, they don’t want to subsidise the wages because there is no way a new club will pay him those wages.

“So I suspect it’s a brutal blow on him to say that there is no future here for him, that we need him out. I suspect it’s a business play as well as an honesty play.”

“Our team should be so much better with Rashford, but Rashford has to change,” said Amorim. “If he changes, we would more than welcome a talent like Rashford – and we need him. We need goals, we need one against one, we need a threat.

“But in this moment, I think it’s really clear we have to set some standards, that’s all. We are waiting for Marcus if he wants it really, really bad. That’s the only thing. You try to make it something personal, but it’s not personal. It’s nothing against Marcus.

“I just have to make the same rules for everybody. That for me is so simple, it’s always the same message. We are a better team with Marcus Rashford, that is clear. He is a big talent. But until the right moment I will not change my mind.”

According to reports, Marcus Rashford has been ‘left with one transfer option’ to leave Premier League giants Manchester United this month.

At the end of 2024, Rashford announced his intention to leave Man Utd as the wantaway forward is “ready” for a new challenge.

United has been looking to offload several talents this month to raise funds for a major rebuild, and Rashford would have been a useful pure-profit sale.

However, the Red Devils have struggled to find Rashford a new club as he’s been heavily criticised for his poor performances and attitude over the past 18 months.

FC Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund have been linked with Rashford. Still, he’s at risk of being left out on the sidelines for a few months as his huge salary is another stumbling block.

A new report from The Independent claims Rashford has been ‘left with one transfer option’ if he’s to depart United this month. It’s also noted that a ‘suitable move has yet to present itself and only Juventus looks like a possible option this January’.

Rashford’s ‘demands’ have limited his options and it is also noted that there is ‘little interest’ from Tottenham Hotspur.

‘The club have fielded a number of informal enquiries for the forward since he announced he was open to leaving in December, but Rashford wants to ensure any move is one that fits his preferences.

‘That involves the chance to compete for trophies this season, while also at a level high enough to persuade England manager Thomas Tuchel that he should be brought back into the international fold. Rashford’s demands have essentially ensured only two options are currently being considered: Juventus, on loan until the end of the season, and Barcelona as a permanent move in the future.

‘The Catalan club have long been Rashford’s ideal destination, with interest going back to 2018, but Spain’s financial rules mean they cannot do any deal in this window without considerable sales.

‘Rashford is known to have little interest in the English suitors so far like Tottenham and West Ham. While Borussia Dortmund had seemed like a viable option, especially given former teammate Jadon Sancho’s success there on loan, the prospect of a deal was way off.’

The report has also revealed Rashford’s reaction to Ruben Amorim brutally saying he’d rather select his goalkeeper coach than the forward.

‘While there has been much criticism of Ruben Amorim’s remarks on Sunday due to the potential for further lowering Rashford’s value, and weakening United’s hand, the reality is that everyone in the market already knew the situation. That was made clear by the fact he hasn’t played for United since early December.

‘The player is nevertheless understood to have been surprised by the strength of Amorim’s comments, especially given his willingness to stay at United and prove himself.’
