Rashford earning ‘F-off money’ creates issues amid Man Utd ‘deterioration’

We’re trying to move away from Arsenal referee chat and have landed on Man Utd, their mess and Marcus Rashford’s money.

    An evisceration of Man Utd
It’s genuinely fascinating to see how low the bar has fallen at Old Trafford. A 1-0 scrape past Fulham, courtesy of one shot on target, and suddenly some United fans think Ruben Amorim is the messiah. Lads, this is United, not Burnley’s greatest hits. The glory days are not just gone; they’re starting to feel like mythology.

Let’s not mince words here: Man Utd are bad. Proper bad. The sort of bad where you glance at the league table, see 12th place, and wonder if there’s a typo. Spoiler: there isn’t.

A Brief Recap of the Shambles

    * Brighton 3-1 United. Completely outclassed by a team whose wage bill is less than Casemiro’s annual salary. Amorim’s side looked more lost than Sancho did under Ten Hag.

    * Fulham 0-1 United. One shot on target. One. And let’s not pretend it was some tactical masterclass. Fulham gifted that game away, but hey, a win’s a win, right?

Speaking of Casemiro…He’s no longer starting, and frankly, it’s not a loss. The man plays like he’s running through wet cement. Remember when United fans called him “transformative”? Now he’s been benched so long he might as well be a pundit on Match of the Day.

Credit where it’s due – Harry Maguire looks decent in Amorim’s 3-4-3 setup. But let’s not get carried away. Decent Maguire is still Maguire, and the fact that he’s now considered a highlight speaks volumes about the state of the club.

    Rashford? Who?

Frozen out for lack of effort in training. Amorim’s recent comment that he’d rather start a 61-year-old than someone who doesn’t apply themselves was clearly directed at Rashford. Fair play to Amorim for enforcing standards, but it’s damning when one of your supposed stars can’t even get on the bench.

    The Departures

    * Martial has swapped Manchester for AEK Athens, and somehow that feels like an upgrade – for him and United.

    * McTominay is thriving at Napoli, challenging for the Serie A title. Imagine! Scott McTominay: Serie A champion. Feels like a Mad Lib, doesn’t it?

    * Sancho is looking revitalized on loan at Chelsea. It’s almost poetic how players leave United and suddenly remember how to play football.

Ruud van Nistelrooy, in his interim stint, actually did well—winning 3 and drawing 1. He’s now at Leicester, fighting relegation, which somehow feels more dignified than this mess at Old Trafford.

Amorim’s philosophy is clear: discipline and structure over ego. Admirable, sure, but it doesn’t make up for the fact that the football is soul-crushingly dull. United’s games have become the sporting equivalent of ASMR for insomniacs. You’d struggle to find a single moment of excitement, save for the occasional misplaced backpass and Onana mistake.

What United fans should be asking is: where is this club actually headed? Amorim is a project manager with ideas, but does anyone honestly believe he’ll be given the time and resources to succeed? United’s recent history suggests he’s just the next name on a long list of scapegoats.

United are closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League spots. This is a club that’s spent billions and somehow managed to get worse. It’s no longer about “rebuilding”—it’s about survival. Meanwhile, Arsenal are flying, Newcastle are climbing, Bournemouth are having a ball and Liverpool are top of the league. United? They’re trudging along, hoping for scraps.

The chaos at the top continues. The Glazers haven’t sold, Ratcliffe’s minority stake is a glorified PR exercise, and the same old indecision and infighting still rule the roost.

So yes, enjoy your occasional 1-0 wins, United fans. Celebrate the rare clean sheet and the odd moment of Maguire competence. Just don’t delude yourselves into thinking this is progress.

In May, when United finish 14th and claim “green shoots of recovery,” I’ll be here to remind you: this isn’t recovery. This isn’t even stagnation with a shiny new coat of paint. This is Deterioration.

    Crossroads for Rashford
Over the last decade, I think we’ve really seen the impact of young English footballers accumulating generational wealth at a young age.

It essentially means players no longer “need” to find clubs or play at the level of European football. They have “F-off money” from a young age, and as the saying goes, the problem with paying “F-off money” is that people can then tell you to “F-off.”

A few years ago, it was big news that the likes of youngish Jesse Lingard, Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain were dropped from the England squad. Since then, for differing reasons, none of them have come anywhere near the England squad again.

In fact, only Barkley, now 31 and supposedly still in his prime, is still playing in the Premier League as a bit-part player for mid-table Aston Villa. However, after making a decisive impact at Luton last year and playing 27 league games in Nice the year before, he has shown consistent effort to get game time. This has probably meant he hasn’t made as much money as he could have. For me, this is an example of a player who genuinely wants to play.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, also 31, had injury problems at Liverpool, which restricted his appearances. He moved to Turkey to kick-start his career but currently seems to be frozen out of the squad. It will be interesting to see if he has the appetite to go in search of regular football or if he will take the easier path, collecting what I assume are high wages while enjoying the Turkish sunshine. I wouldn’t begrudge him the latter.

Where things have gone really wrong is with 28-year-old Alli. We know he’s had injuries and well-documented personal struggles, but he hasn’t achieved much football-wise in the last couple of years. Hopefully, his new challenge in Como will help him get back to impacting football matches.

Strangest of all is Lingard, who only turned 32 last month. Since his wonderfully successful loan spell at West Ham in 2021, he has done very little, to the extent that he didn’t even have a club between the end of the 2023 season and February 2024. Lingard then popped up in Korea, where he’s been inconsistent.

Lingard has mentioned that he was “dealing” with the passing of his grandmother, and as I mentioned, Alli has had his traumas from childhood. Neither of these struggles should be marginalised. However, I imagine that if these players hadn’t already accumulated generational wealth, they may not have been able to take so much time away from the game.

I’m not begrudging any of these players making money or the decisions they’ve made. Just don’t be surprised if Rashford or other players continue this trend of stepping away from top-flight European football, sometimes temporarily and sometimes for good.

    Spurs need open-heart surgery
Regarding the Ange or Levy in/out debate it seems to me that everyone is focusing on the wrong things.

The accusation seems to be that either Levy doesn’t spend money or that Ange is a bit rubbish. My personal view is that Ange is not a top-level coach. He produces brittle teams because of his all-out attack philosophy. If you throw enough people forwards without any care about defence (without or with the ball) then you will have some great successes where you overwhelm the opposition but you’re only ever a moment or two away from coming unstuck. But he’s not awful either. And Levy does spend money, just badly, which I’ll come to.

However, a lot is being said about the extreme nature of Spurs’ short-term injury issues. Firstly, it’s partly on the manager to do something about this. Your concept of playing football can’t be to make players sprint nonstop for 90 minutes on repeat twice a week without attention to their condition, proper medical care, or rotating the team.

As I understand it, he has a very ‘light’ staff and doesn’t focus much on individual player condition etc. He’s about motivation and commitment to attack. It seems to be costing him in a way it didn’t previous managers with a lot of the same players. The club should do something about it also. Don’t rely on a manager to have good medical staff – players are your assets – you should protect them at all costs.

But really, I want to address the narrative that ‘nothing can be done because of the injury crisis’. It’s always hard to say exactly due to agent fees etc, but rough numbers, the back five for Spurs against Leicester on the weekend cost 130 million. One of those players was signed ten years ago so, in real terms, it’s more but let’s stick to basic figures. One of those players is very young and out of position and that’s an issue for sure. But that’s it. And they capitulated to a Leicester team with an atrocious record and that, as a team, still costs far far less than the Spurs side.

To put it in context, the starting Arsenal back five against Wolves cost less than Spurs’. It was only once Mr. Oliver decided (again) to interfere with Arteta’s team selection and Calafiori came on that our back five cost a bit more than Spurs. But even then, Arsenal’s cost something like 160m. So 6m more per player. Not much in the PL scheme of things. It’s a back five that Spurs absolutely could afford and was, only a few seasons ago, in a much better position than Arsenal to sign.

It seems to me that Spurs is just badly run from a football perspective. The squad building is appalling. How you go into a long season with only three senior CBs is a mystery. It’s Russian roulette. The player analysis is clearly poor due to repeated purchases of quite average players for large sums. Meanwhile other clubs with much smaller resources consistently get it right. When was the last time the Spurs academy produced anyone of real note? Harry Kane? That’s just dysfunctional. Even by luck they should have produced one or two decent players in over a decade.

My point is this. For all the fancy new stadium, gigs, go karts or whatever, it’s not changing until they do a Man U style re-birth. It’s open-heart surgery time. But Levy makes money, like Ed Woodward, so nothing will alter.

It’s VAR from consistent; fans need to grow up
What entitled cry-baby world do Arsenal fans live in? Well, Trump’s is the answer, same for all of us – can’t you just close your eyes, put your fingers in your ears and go “wah wah wah” until it’s all over along with the rest of us? To be fair it’s not only Arsenal fans so I will address the rest of this missive to all fans of all persuasions.

“All we want is consistency” – well you can’t have it, and you will never be able to have it, not until football is played by robots doing only what they are programmed to do, or what AI tells them to do. Same with refs and VARs – they will always, necessarily, be inconsistent while humans are involved.

Football is not a sport practiced and policed by angels with perfection to rival Arteta’s lego haircut, precision-plucked eyebrows, and excuses. Football is glorious, beautiful chaos created by flawed human beings with all the scope for success and failure this engenders. Same for referees and VARs.

Many moons ago Johnny Nic articulated this way better than I can in a diatribe against VAR, how it was fundamentally at odds with what football is and the joy it brings. He was right of course; all VAR has done is introduce an additional spectrum for human fallibility to corrupt the beautiful game into more and more content for those born, raised and existing only to whinge and whine about the injustice of it all. All Whinginho Whinealdums as I christened my youngest daughter.

Fans created this monster by complaining incessantly about referee mistakes, stoked by an outrage-hungry media. VAR and social media have turned this ire and fire into an echo chamber and poured petrol into it, and stood back watching it burn with all the male energy of a craven milquetoast eunuch. Fans are now moaning about precisely the problem they created to fix the previous problem they created, because they are incapable of accepting imperfection in an imperfect world.

Why can’t fans just enjoy football instead of corrupting it further into the abyss along with everything else? You are in control of what you care about and how you feel about it – grow up!

Some stats on fouls and red cards
I realised my mail actually said that there is a conspiracy despite suggesting there wasn’t one. No doubt you will get mails along those lines.

So I spent a really boring 1 hour meeting running the stats. I picked the Top 6 and Aston Villa and Newcastle to try and add to the data/playstyles. All the data is on a per game basis so it’s consistent. I took from 2021 season until now and the numbers for tackles, fouls, yellows and red. What I expected was Arsenal to get a lot more yellows and reds per tackle/foul than the rest of the teams looked at:

    What does the data show:
-Chelsea have a foul for 78% of their tackle this season. Arsenal, Villa and Liverpool all are around 68%. City and United are clear outliers with 55 and 52 respectively.
-Of these fouls, around 25% of Chelseas and 27% of Citys result in yellow cards. Next is United (21%) with everyone else around 17-20%)
-An Arsenal foul results in a red in 0.15% of the time. This is the important one so here comes all the data:

    City: 0.005
    United: 0.003
    Tottenham: 0.003
    Villa: 0.004
    Liverpool: 0.003
    Chelsea: 0.003

An Arsenal foul is 2.7x more likely to result in a red than City this season. This is what I expected to see. Conspiracy, still no. Statistically important, yes, very.

Arsenals tackles per game have gone up since 2021 (14-17) but have remained consistently low. Fouls per game for Arsenal have gone up by 20%, same as Liverpool but by far they are the most. Arsenal yellow per game, up 25%, again same as Liverpool over the same period. Arsenals reds per game have gone up 120% this season, Villa take the lead though with a 230% increase amazingly. City and Liverpool have gone up as well (around 70%) just not as much.

So there are more tackles in the game, more fouls in the game. Certain teams get more yellow cards per foul, which I would suggest is based on the style of play with City, Liverpool and Arsenal as outliers giving up higher risk chances in their styles of play. The only statistic where there is a significant deviation is on the red cards where Arsenal and Aston Villa appear to be on the receiving end more regularly than expected. The next closest in the data is Liverpool in 23/24 with 0.13 reds per game.

Of Arsenals 4 red cards, we have MLS against Wolves for serious foul play, Saliba for trying to clear a ball with his head and hitting an opponent, Trossard for 2 yellows which were both deserved and Rice for 2 yellow cards which were both deserved (although how the Brighton player wasn’t also punished i’m not sure).

Of the 30 red cards this season so far, 24 have been straight red cards. Of the 6 for double yellow cards, Arsenal make up 33% of all the double yellows handed out this season.

So was it worth pulling this data? Probably not. Each incident has to be taken on their own merit so this kind of data isn’t great to use. However, to be 33% of all the double yellow cards handed out this season, for each foul to be 2.7x more likely to be a red for Arsenal than City, for Arsenal to actually be pretty low/average for yellows but wildly out of place for reds despite not statistically tackling or fouling much more than their peers, something is up. I don’t know what but if the COVID jab has statistical variations for death like this, they would be investigated/we would still be wearing masks. Something for Arteta and the PGMOL to both look into separately I think

Oh and don’t send death threats to officials, managers, players or their families, it’s just a game.
Rob A (the more tackles and fouls per game is really interesting, there’s an article on that somewhere) AFC

    Not for us, Clive
I’ll bite. I’ll even go as far as to say I can understand why MLS was sent off. I watched the game and at the time it happened, I thought to myself ‘he could be in trouble here’. 50/50 red card? Fair enough.

But, as for your take on not dragging a 17-year old online troll over the coals for sending a death threat, then no, I disagree. 17 is old enough to know better. I held a semi-responsible role in the City of London at that age. Clearly, I was considered mature enough to be treated as an adult.

If we constantly let this sort of stuff go, where does it stop? I’m not saying the lad needs to go to prison, but he certainly needs to be punished for his actions. Maybe given a Spurs season ticket perhaps?

Or, maybe put him in a room with Kai Havertz for a couple of minutes? I know Havertz would probably miss with his first couple of punches, but he’d get him in the end…

He’s clearly not an Arsenal fan. Just a pr*ck who hides behind a keyboard.

You can seemingly say whatever you like these days on social media. OK, so be it. But, you have to accept that your words may have consequences.
Stu – Gooner in France, looking forward to another 2nd place finish

…Craig asks whether it is really worth dragging the seventeen-year-old who sent a pregnant woman messages threatening to ‘slaughter’ her as-yet unborn baby over the coals and possibly giving him a criminal record?

Yes it is, Craig. Yes it really is.
    Iain, Sunderland

…In response to Craig’s question – yes, it probably is worth ensuring that people who send death threats are strongly discouraged from doing so again.

I took a look at what you described as a “moment of stupidity”. He wrote “I’m going to come to your house and slaughter your baby”. He took time out of his day to directly contact someone to tell them that he intended to kill their child. Perhaps it was just a very poorly judged joke you might think…this moment of stupidity. Well thankfully he then added “I’m not joking just wait” to remove any doubt. He wasn’t caught scrumping for apples or doing 35mph in a 30 zone – he wrote and sent a message stating a very clear intent to kill someone.

Did he mean it? Who knows. In the UK we’ve seen MPs, journalists, footballers and musicians attacked and, in some cases, killed by strangers who simply didn’t like them. How would you know if the threat was real or not.

I don’t really understand why anyone would bother to take the time to directly tell a stranger that they don’t like them for whatever reason, but there’s a line between “I think you’re a xxxxx” and “I’m going to kill you.” You can argue the merits of making the first one a police matter all you like, but the second one? He deserves the minor punishment that’s probably coming his way.

Scottish giants plotting late loan swoop for United star facing uncertain future under Amorim – report

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia on loan before the window closes on February 3.

It’s thought that United are open to offloading Malacia, who is still building up his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an injury that required at least two operations.

Malacia has made seven appearances this season, including featuring as a late substitute in last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Netherlands international has not been able to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans and his minutes are only likely to become restricted even further, now that Luke Shaw has returned to training and United are about to complete the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United told Malacia to look for a new club this month. Several clubs both within the Premier League and abroad are thought to be keen on adding Malacia to their ranks until the end of the season.

More recently, it was claimed that Real Betis, who already took Antony on loan from Old Trafford, are also interested in Malacia.

Now, the Daily Mail reveal that Celtic are also eyeing the United left-back.

According to the newspaper, Celtic have added Malacia to their list in case their efforts to land Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney before the transfer deadline fail.

Celtic have agreed terms of a pre-contract with Tierney, permitting him to return to Glasgow in the summer but the Scottish giants are keen on him joining immediately after Alex Valle was recalled by Barcelona and sent out to Como on loan.

This has left Greg Taylor as the only recognised left-back at the club, which is why Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in Tierney earlier than initially planned. However, amidst uncertainty over the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta could decide to hold on to Tierney until the end of the season.

If this happens, the Parkhead outfit have lined up Malacia as an alternative.

The Mail add that United are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old, whose contract runs until 2026.

Amorim warns his players to be wary of FCSB danger man who’s “really fast in transition” ahead of Europan clash

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has warned his players against complacency ahead of their Europa League meeting with Romanian side FCSB.

Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Amorim acknowledged that FCSB are the underdogs but insisted they still have the tools to hurt United at the National Arena.

In particular, Amorim singled out 23-year-old attacker David Miculescu as someone United need to be wary of.

Asked if he was surprised by the fact that FCSB are eighth in the Europa League standings, Amorim replied, “No, it’s not surprising [that they are eighth]. We prove that in the Premier League – we are Manchester United but we are so low in the table. So everything can happen in football. I know they’re a strong team and can score a lot of goals from set-pieces. ”

“They can win matches without much possession. They’re a really smart team and we have to perform well to win the game. We study the team to prepare for this game. Like I said, sometimes it’s a team that’s a little bit different in Europe.”

“Without so much possession, they can score from set-pieces, with one striker who is really fast in transition. [David] Miculescu, left foot, is really strong. The two centre-backs are very strong on duels and the two full-backs go up and down until the 90 minutes. We’ll be prepared for that, I’m sure my team are prepared to fight for the win.”

On FCSB being underdogs, Amorim remarked, “That is, of course a big difference. I cannot say a different thing as, when I was at Sporting, I said one thing so, at Manchester United I’m not going to say it doesn’t matter.”

“But it doesn’t matter when the games starts. It’s 11 v 11, and the other guys on the bench. We have to prove we are a better team and, for that, we have to run a lot. In competitions, especially in Europe, that can be the x-factor but we need to prove that on the field tomorrow.”

Amorim was asked whether he would define United’s last few years as a crisis. He responded, “It’s not a crisis, it is a problem because this is a massive club. This club has a person like Sir Alex, in charge of everything for so long. When you lose this kind of personality in a club, sometimes it’s really hard to start again.”

“I think that can happen at any club and especially in our club. Twenty-seven years with the same person, in charge of everything, who builds everything, all the kids, he brings then since the Under-14s. We need to start doing that without Sir Alex, just with small help from him, and that can happen in any club.”

Earlier on Wednesday, a report covered by The Peoples Person revealed that United brought in iconic athletics coach Harry Marra to help improve the team’s performance on the pitch.

It was indicated that Marra’s services were enlisted to provide advice on different aspects of athletics, like the mechanics of running to cover ground with speed and endurance.

Amorim said about Marra’s presence, “It was not me, it was the club. We are always trying to bring experienced people to share the knowledge with the staff and to understand the body and how we can improve our players.”

“It was not me, it’s not something new, he’s not there to coach the team, it’s more to coach the staff about the running etcetera. It’s a simple thing we are used to doing to improve as a club.”

Amorim stressed that it’s important United beat FCSB to clinch automatic progression to the round of 16 and avoid playing two-legged play-offs in February.

The United head coach was accompanied in the presser by Leny Yoro, who gave his reasons for joining United in the summer.

The Frenchman explained, “Why United? Everyone knows the history of Manchester United, the greatness of this club, so I knew from the beginning that it was the right club for me. I spoke to a lot of people. It was the right choice.”

On playing in a three-man defence system, Yoro noted, “I’ve played in a 3-man defence in the past, so the adaptation was easier. In this system, I can use my qualities with the ball, defend high. For me, it’s a good thing.”

FCSB vs. United kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

United star would like a move to Atletico Madrid but “is expected to stay” at Old Trafford – report

Owing to PSR concerns, INEOS took the desperate call to put up academy wonderkids like Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo up for sale this January.

Chelsea had their eyes on both stars while Napoli emerged as frontrunners for the Argentine who initially had no intention of jumping ship midway into the season.

But since the Manchester derby snub, the 20-year-old feels he does not fit in with what Ruben Amorim is trying to build and is now more open to the idea of departing in this window.

The Serie A giants have seen their formal bid of €50 million get rejected with the Red Devils holding out for €80 million. The Naples outfit are mulling over an improved offer of €55 million, which is also expected to fall short.

          Chelsea, Napoli eyeing Garnacho

Their desperation is growing now that Karim Adeyemi has rejected their approach and it remains to be seen how much they are willing to increase their bid amount.

Interestingly, plenty of outlets had claimed the Argentina international wanted to remain in the Premier League should an exit materialise but as revealed by TBR Football, that does not seem to be the case any longer.

The report mentions that Garnacho loves United too much and if he does leave, he wants a return to Spain and Atletico Madrid, where he was at before joining the 20-time English league champions.

While a late Chelsea bid cannot be ruled out at this stage, as of now it seems the versatile winger is likely to remain at Old Trafford.

“Garnacho does love Manchester United as a club, but he still knows that, long-term, he does not fit in Amorim system. It is understood that Garnacho’s ideal option is to return to Spain and Atletico Madrid.

Garnacho wants to return to Spain

“And while Garnacho is expected to stay at Old Trafford, Chelsea can’t be ruled out still.”

Whether Atletico will want him back is a different proposition altogether considering the circumstances in which he left the club as a teenager.

United have made it clear to potential suitors that they will entertain offers for the No 17 for only two more days after which they will block all offers.

In case, the Argentina international leaves, Mathys Tel of Bayern Munich has been lined up as replacement. An exciting end to the January window awaits for the club.

Man Utd transfer: Rashford ‘takes emergency action’ as Amorim makes fresh ‘red lines’ claim

Man Utd transfer: Rashford ‘takes emergency action’ as Amorim makes fresh ‘red lines’ claim

Man Utd boss Ruben Amorim insists he is not trying to “send messages” to any of his players after revealing Marcus Rashford has not met his standards.

Amorim has left Rashford out of all but one of his last 11 squads in all competitions with the Man Utd forward making his last appearance in their 2-1 Europa League win over Viktoria Plzen on December 12.

Rashford came out in the wake of his first omission against Man City by claiming that he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Man Utd in the January transfer window.

The Man Utd forward has been heavily linked with a move away this month with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Monaco, Marseille and other clubs linked.

However, his huge wages are a stumbling block for most teams and Rashford currently looks no closer to a move than at the beginning of the month.

Things escalated a bit over the weekend with Man Utd boss Amorim insisting that he would rather pick his goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital over Rashford.

When asked about Rashford being left out of another matchday squad, Amorim responded: “It’s the same situation for every player. If you do the maximum, if you do the right things – we can use every player.

“You can see it today [Sunday] on the bench – we miss a little bit of pace to go, to change the game, to move some pieces, but I prefer [it] like that. I will put Vital [on the bench] before I put a player that doesn’t give the maximum every day so I will not change that.”

And now Amorim has revealed that those comments aren’t sending a message to the rest of the squad but that Rashford overstepped “certain red lines”.

Amorim told TNT Sports Mexico: “I don’t want to give messages to anyone. I’m just very clear about what the players have to do. I’m demanding in certain things, but then I’m a coach like everyone else.

“There are just certain red lines that I feel that, for a group to win games and titles, you have to follow a criteria. And so, if there’s no such criteria, then it’s all very subjective. And there are certain things that we have to be very clear with the players. That’s just it. I don’t want to send messages to anyone.”

And now Caught Offside claim that Rashford has ‘takes emergency action’ to force through a transfer before the end of the winter market.

The website claims that the Daily Star have reported that Rashford ‘has hired the brother of Brighton forward, Danny Welbeck, as his new agent to help him find a move away from Old Trafford.’

Manchester United are interested in signing CA Osasuna winger Bryan Zaragoza, as per reports.

Amid question marks over Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford’s long-term futures at Old Trafford, United have been linked with a number of attackers in recent times.

Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyökeres have been among the headlines all January and in recent days Mathys Tel has also reportedly landed on the Premier League giants’ radar. Now, Fichajes have thrown another name into the mix.

According to the Spanish outlet, Zaragoza has attracted interest from United.

The 23-year-old left-winger is currently at Osasuna, on loan from Bayern Munich and his impressive form in La Liga has raised plenty of eyebrows.

United are understood to be admirers of his pace and ability to take on defenders consistently.

Several other European clubs are monitoring Zaragoza’s situation and have shown interest in signing him.

However, it is claimed that the Red Devils “have the advantage” in the race. The reason behind the suggestion remains unclear.

With a goal and five assists in La Liga this season, the Spain international, who is also capable of playing as an attacking midfielder, has established himself as a key part of Osasuna’s squad.

Accordingly, figures at Osasuna want to keep him but they have “already accepted” that Zaragoza’s time at the club is close to coming to an end as they are not in a position to compete with the Premier League’s financial might.

Interestingly, United aren’t in a great financial situation and having already agreed a deal for Patrick Dorgu it’s tough to see them making a move for Zaragoza without a major exit. It is stressed that they are likely to chase the Bayern player next summer.

Meanwhile, INEOS are open to listening to offers for both Garnacho and Rashford but no club have so far shown a desire to meet their demands.

Rashford could still leave before deadline day as United in talks with Euro giants over late move – report

Rashford could still leave before deadline day as United in talks with Euro giants over late move – report

There remains a chance that Marcus Rashford could still leave Manchester United before deadline day, with the club in talks with Barcelona over a late loan deal.

Rashford’s future at United is still uncertain ahead of the close of the winter transfer window on February 3.

The England international has missed United’s last 11 games across all competitions. After Sunday’s 2-1 win against Fulham at Craven Cottage, Amorim told reporters that he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital instead of a demotivated Rashford.

Amorim doubled down in a subsequent interview, insisting that Rashford had crossed “certain red lines”, prompting his exile from the team.

Despite training with his teammates on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League meeting with FCSB, Rashford was excluded from the travelling squad.

In his pre-match presser, Amorim insisted that United are a better team with Rashford but the 27-year-old “has to change” his ways before being reinstated.

A number of clubs including Borussia Dortmund, West Ham, Tottenham Hotspur, AC Milan and Juventus have all shown some interest in the Carrington academy graduate but his preference is believed to be Barcelona.

However, his mega wages coupled with Barcelona’s dire financial shape are making it extremely difficult to get over the line.

The Blaugrana need to offload one or two players to make room for Rashford but they’re finding it hard to offload the likes of Eric Garcia and Ansu Fati.

A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Rashford and Barca reached an agreement over personal terms.

Now, The Telegraph reveal that the Catalan giants are in contact with United about a late transfer.

According to the newspaper, “Manchester United are in tentative talks with Barcelona over a loan deal for Marcus Rashford, although there remains doubt over whether the Catalan club can do the agreement in time for Monday’s deadline, given their struggles to comply with La Liga’s financial controls.”

“Should the Barcelona deal break down there would appear to be no other option but a rapprochement with Ruben Amorim, who has been unequivocal in excluding Rashford from the first-team squad.”

“The player and his advisers, chiefly his brother Dwaine Maynard, see Barcelona as the only viable option.”

Sam Wallace notes that if Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho depart Old Trafford before the close of the window, United may swoop in for Mathys Tel.

United are keen on signing Tel, but only if Bayern Munich make him available on loan.

Chido Obi scores yet again but midfield star outshone him in massive u21s victory

Manchester United u21s topped their group in the National League Cup after a 0-5 routing of Oldham Athletic.

Here are our player ratings for the match. Read the detailed match report of all the action here.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Elyh Harrison – 8 – Top performance in goal from Harrison who looks more assured after his loan spell with Chester. Was quick off his line to cut out attacks in behind and made one great save. More impressively though was his distribution from the back, he looked like a midfielder and should have had an assist with a stellar ball over the top to Sharpe.

Habeeb Ogunneye – 7 – Was decent defensively and made a couple of good recovery challenges in dangerous areas but could have done better in attack, particularly his deliveries into the box.

Tyler Fredricson – 7.5 – Almost scored an own goal in the first minute but ended up the best of the back four, he was strong in the air and defended well 1v1 with a couple of strong challenges.

Godwill Kukonki – 5.5 – A shaky performance started with a few poor passes straight out of play and to the opposition. Then was too weak in the tackle which allowed a big chance before misjudging the flight of a long ball to let Sam Taylor through 1v1. Looked more composed in the second half when he was coming up against a fellow u18s player but still struggled when Taylor made runs in behind him.

Sam Murray – 7 – Was rarely troubled defensively and was composed on the ball, got himself an assist with a nice corner delivery for Musa to head home at the end of the match.

Finley McAllister – 6.5 – Moved the ball quickly, particularly did well spreading the play out to Mather on the left wing within one touch to allow Mather to attack the box.

Sekou Kone – 8 – Perhaps Kone’s best performance in a United shirt yet. He looked fitter and was able to skip past challenges in midfield to open the space. Most impressively was how he played with an attitude to always move forward. Whether it was by dribbling or looking for the killer pass, he was looking to make things happen throughout the 90 minutes and did so with a great run before Obi’s goal.

Malachi Sharpe – 7.5 – Dangerous throughout the match with his running in behind and desire to take on his fullback. Left a lot to be desired in the first half with his final product but kept his head up and got his goal in the second half with a good finish.

Jack Moorhouse – 8.5 – Arguably the man of the match, his ability to turn and drive in midfield wreaked havoc on Oldham. He opened the scoring with some sensational footwork that left his marker stumbling to the ground as he struck the back of the net. He then played a key part in the second goal before driving forward to set up Mather for the fourth.

Sam Mather – 7 – Slowed the attack down too much in the first half by taking too many touches before playing the pass but was a bit more sharp in the second half to get an assist and take his goal really with a powerful strike into the roof of the net.

Chido Obi – 8.5 – A well-rounded performance that showed he could be a complete striker. Dropped deep at times to pick the ball up and turn his defender before driving into space.

                  Substitutes

Ruben Curley – 7 – Added more drive and attacking impetus upon his introduction. Came close with a long range effort on goal but had to settle for just an assist after a lovely curled pass to set free Sharpe.

James Scanlon – 6 – Played a nice pass to feed through Obi shortly after his introduction.

Victor Musa – 6.5 – Not on for long but got his name on the scoresheet with a well taken header from a corner.

Surprise clubs “considering” a late January move for United midfield superstar, INEOS are open to his sale – report

Ever since Ruben Amorim came on board as Manchester United’s new head coach, Casemiro’s minutes have diminished greatly with the Brazilian recently finding himself at the bottom of the midfield pecking order.

The Portuguese tactician has opted to hand regular minutes to academy graduate Toby Collyer ahead of the former Real Madrid superstar in recent times.

Amorim explained his actions recently by stating that the Brazilian can no longer provide the intensity demanded by the new coach as before. Which is why the defensive midfielder has never completed the full 90 minutes under the 40-year-old.

“We understand that Casemiro has other things nowadays. The intelligence he has, understanding the game, understanding where the ball is going to fall but we’re in a league that I can see, even in European competitions, the difference in intensity is big. And so, I feel that this team also needs players with a very high intensity,” Amorim said.

Casemiro not part of Amorim’s plans

Given that he is not in the boss’ plans, it is natural that he will searching for an exit this January with INEOS also open to the possibility as that would mean they get his humongous wages of £350,000 gross per week (via capology) off the wage bill.

However, despite initial interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, a move seems off the table with the 32-year-old’s contract demands not helping matters.

AS Roma have also been credited with interest in the five-time Champions League winner as has Besiktas but it remains to be seen if a permanent exit materialises this January.

As revealed by TBR Football, Qatari clubs could offer him an exit from his Old Trafford nightmare while Galatasaray have also been linked with a move.

                    Galatasaray, Qatari clubs eyeing midfielder

“Sources have told TBR Football that a number of sides are keen to take the man born in Sao Jose dos Campos – including Italian giants Roma.

“Galatasaray are also admirers of the Manchester United No.18 – while clubs in Qatar are considering a move too.”

However, the report does not make clear whether the aforementioned teams want him on a loan deal or a permanent exit.

United would ideally like to recoup a small fee from his sale and in case of a loan exit, they would want the club to take care of his full wages.

Whether United’s terms are accepted remains to be seen. For now, United seem to be stuck with Casemiro with landing spots drying up and only five days left for the window to close.

Rashford offered shock Man Utd lifeline as Amorim makes ‘happy’ admission over Red Devils star

Ruben Amorim has offered Marcus Rashford a Manchester United lifeline, insisting he is “more than happy to have” the forward on one condition.

Rashford said last month that he was eager for a “new challenge” and hadn’t featured for the club since mid-December when he was dropped for the Manchester derby over an apparent lack of effort in training.

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are among the clubs to have been linked with Rashford in recent weeks but options are limited for the United star thanks to his £325,000 per week wages and his reticence to leave for Saudi Arabia.

After United’s 1-0 win over Fulham on Sunday Amorim said he would rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than any player not meeting the mark in training.

The Portuguese boss made the point in response to yet another question about Rashford’s absence for the squad, but after the media took that on face value as a significant slam of Rashford, Amorim clarified on Wednesday that his message was directed at the whole squad.

The head coach also admitted United are a “better team” with Rashford and opened the door to him staying and playing at Old Trafford if he bucks up his ideas.

“The situation is the same for every player,” Amorim said at his pre-match press conference.

“My sentence was that I wouldn’t put any player that doesn’t give the maximum. I didn’t say only Marcus Rashford.

“We are a better team with him, that’s clear, but until the right moment I won’t change my mind.

“If Rashford will change we are more than happy to have Rashford. But we have to set standards. It’s not personal.

“Imagine a talent like Rashford, our team should be so much better, but he has to change.

“If he changes, we will use a talent like Rashford, but in this moment we have to set some standards.”

Former West Ham striker Cole reckons Amorim’s comments criticising Rashford’s performance in training aren’t helpful with the Man Utd boss “killing” the forward.

Cole said on The Dressing Room Podcast: “You look at the Rashford situation and what Amorim is talking about afterwards, saying that he’d rather play his goalkeeping coach, who is 63 years old, rather than play him up front basically because he doesn’t apply himself properly.

“I want to know what’s going on. He’s killing him and you’re killing his price tag as well, by the way.

“Rashford is a commodity, he’s money. If you really want to sell him on, why would you say that?!

“That’s why I think Amorim is a little bit naive because he’s going with his emotions. He’s thinking, ‘Rashford’s not doing what I’m saying and I’m the boss!’”
