Scottish giants plotting late loan swoop for United star facing uncertain future under Amorim – report

Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia on loan before the window closes on February 3.

It’s thought that United are open to offloading Malacia, who is still building up his fitness after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an injury that required at least two operations.

Malacia has made seven appearances this season, including featuring as a late substitute in last Sunday’s 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

The Netherlands international has not been able to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans and his minutes are only likely to become restricted even further, now that Luke Shaw has returned to training and United are about to complete the signing of Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United told Malacia to look for a new club this month. Several clubs both within the Premier League and abroad are thought to be keen on adding Malacia to their ranks until the end of the season.

More recently, it was claimed that Real Betis, who already took Antony on loan from Old Trafford, are also interested in Malacia.

Now, the Daily Mail reveal that Celtic are also eyeing the United left-back.

According to the newspaper, Celtic have added Malacia to their list in case their efforts to land Arsenal’s Kieran Tierney before the transfer deadline fail.

Celtic have agreed terms of a pre-contract with Tierney, permitting him to return to Glasgow in the summer but the Scottish giants are keen on him joining immediately after Alex Valle was recalled by Barcelona and sent out to Como on loan.

This has left Greg Taylor as the only recognised left-back at the club, which is why Brendan Rodgers wants to bring in Tierney earlier than initially planned. However, amidst uncertainty over the future of Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Emirates, Mikel Arteta could decide to hold on to Tierney until the end of the season.

If this happens, the Parkhead outfit have lined up Malacia as an alternative.

The Mail add that United are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old, whose contract runs until 2026.
