Club chiefs confirms attacker in talks with United may have played his final game for the club

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed Mathys Tel wants to leave the club before the close of the transfer window.

It was recently reported that Tel is keen on leaving Bayern in search of guaranteed first-team minutes elsewhere.

United are believed to be keen on signing him, especially if either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho depart over the course of the next few days.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein revealed that United want to sign Tel but only on an initial loan deal. There have been suggestions that the 19-year-old wants a switch to Old Trafford ahead of all other possible transfer destinations.

In addition to United, the other Premier League clubs weighing up a move for Tel are Chelsea, London and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa also contacted Bayern to ask about the conditions of a deal.

🚨🇫🇷 One more club has called today for Mathys Tel: Aston Villa have also asked for deal conditions.

Jhon Durán leaves to join Al Nassr and Villa are in the market for new striker, with contact made for Tel as @FabriceHawkins reports.

Romano also reported that United made a call, expressing their interest in the Sarcelles-born footballer.

On Wednesday night, after Bayern’s 3-1 win over Slovan Bratislava, Eberl gave an update on Tel’s future.

Eberl said [via football.london], “We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to establish himself. Now he says he wants to leave.”

“There’s no bad blood. I can understand him. I’ve rarely had so many clubs call me about a player before.”

Tel started against Bratislava and was on the pitch for 62 minutes before being replaced by Kingsley Coman. After the final whistle, Tel appeared to be saying goodbye to Bayern fans.

Asked by Sky Germany if that was his final appearance for the Bavarian outfit, he replied, “I don’t know.”

Tel has largely been used as an impact substitute at Bayern so far in his career and it seems he’s finally ready to make the step-up and become a key player at another club.

“Intensified negotiations”: Serie A giants pushing hard to complete late January deal for 27yo United superstar – report

Finding a new home for Marcus Rashford in this window has not proven to be easy for Manchester United with plenty of clubs leaving the race in recent times.

The Mancunian dropped a bombshell after being dropped for the Manchester derby when he claimed he was open to leaving his boyhood club.

Ruben Amorim understandably has not picked him since, criticising his mentality in training, with the pair’s relationship said to be beyond repair.

And with less than five days to go for the January window to close, time is running out for the Carrington graduate to find an exit from Old Trafford.

Rashford’s Barca stance affecting his chances of leaving

AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund were interested but the forward’s adamant stance of joining only Barcelona meant the duo moved on to other targets.

The Catalan giants have failed to make space for the Englishman in their wage bill with United asking for the Spanish side to pay the 27-year-old’s full wages in case they do move for him between now and the end of the window.

Recent reports claimed Fenerbahce and Galatasaray had joined the race with The Peoples Person even relaying that Galatasaray are close to an agreement.

But F365 have relayed Juventus’ late interest claiming they are pushing very hard to stave off competition from La Liga giants.

“The Italian club has intensified negotiations with United to finalize his loan until the end of the season. However, the competition for Rashford is fierce.

      Juventus join the race

“FC Barcelona has also shown great interest in adding him to their squad, which could complicate Juve’s plans. While both Milan and Borussia Dortmund have withdrawn from the race, Barcelona holds the advantage of being the forward’s preferred destination.”

Landing spots for the England international are few and far between with Rashford declining the chance to join the cash-rich Saudi Pro League while MLS clubs had also tried their luck a while back.

Plenty of ex-United stars have called for the United No 10 to be banished from the dressing room and the player will be hoping to leave as soon as possible as gametime is unlikely to be on offer should he remain.

INEOS would also hope for an exit as Rashford regaining form is the best possible scenario for them as they seek to maximise his transfer value when they sell him in the summer, all of which will constitute pure profit.

Domestic rivals like Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United could provide the solution even though the co-owners do not want to strengthen a direct domestic rival.

Final hours: United’s star’s impossible demands stun Euro giants ahead of blockbuster €55m switch – report

Napoli have 24 hours to make a decisive move for Alejandro Garnacho as they consider a transfer for the Manchester United winger.

While the Red Devils are open to negotiation on the transfer fee, the Argentine’s salary expectations pose a major obstacle.

The 20-year old has attracted interest from Chelsea in recent weeks, but Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reports that Napoli have now re-entered the race. The Serie A side must act quickly before shifting focus to alternative targets.

United have lowered their asking price to €55 million (£47 million), giving Napoli some hope of completing the deal.

However, the bigger issue lies in Garnacho’s wage demands, which exceed €4.5 million (£3.8 million) per season after tax.

Currently earning €1.8 million (£1.5 million) per year at Old Trafford, the winger is seeking a significant pay rise to make the move to Italy.

Napoli have been in talks with his representatives but remain unconvinced they can meet his demands.

The Serie A giants are now running out of time, with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

While United have shown flexibility on the fee, Garnacho’s contract terms appear to be the real stumbling block.

If a deal does not materialise, Napoli are prepared to shift their focus elsewhere.

Ahead of United’s final Europa League group stage match against Romanian side FCSB, manager Ruben Amorim spoke highly of Garnacho’s development. “I’m happy to have Garnacho here,” he told TNT Sports.

“He’s improving a lot. He’s a young, talented guy. You want to work with these guys with talent. That’s what drives the coaches to improve the team; to have these kinds of players that you know are going to improve a lot. In football, especially when we are in these situations, sometimes it’s hard, but I don’t want to focus on that.”

“I’m really happy to have Garnacho playing tomorrow.”

The Argentine’s future remains uncertain, but if Napoli fail to meet his demands, he could remain at Old Trafford—or attract fresh interest from elsewhere before the window closes.

Man Utd transfer: Reason for ‘delay’ with ‘agreed’ signing revealed as Romano confirms ‘re-scheduled medical’

Man Utd transfer: Reason for ‘delay’ with ‘agreed’ signing revealed as Romano confirms ‘re-scheduled medical’

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Patrick Dorgu’s move to Manchester United has been delayed as his medical has been “re-scheduled”.

The Red Devils are yet to make a January signing, but they are closing in on their first addition.

Old Trafford chiefs have largely been focused on outgoings this month as they have looked to raise funds for a much-needed rebuild under head coach Ruben Amorim.

However, Man Utd have still been in the market for signings and their priority is to sign a new left wing-back.

Amorim cannot rely on injury-prone pair Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, so Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have often filled in and played in an unnatural position.

The Premier League giants have been linked with several potential targets, but 20-year-old Dorgu has been chosen as their preferred signing.

READ: Marcus Rashford ‘spotted’ at work as ‘medical booked’ amid Ruben Amorim ‘knife’

The Denmark international has been enjoying a breakout season for Lecce as he’s grabbed four goal involvements in his 21 Serie A appearances.

Man Utd failed with a couple of bids for Dorgu before Romano revealed on Tuesday that a “verbal agreement” had been reached.

He said: ‘Patrick Dorgu to Manchester United, here we go!

‘Verbal agreement in place with Lecce, documents to be checked in next 24h.

‘Fee will be €30m plus €5m in add-ons not guaranteed.

‘Long term contract agreed days ago with the player…and first signing for Ruben Amorim.’

Despite this, Dorgu’s move to Man Utd is yet to be completed and Romano confirmed on Thursday afternoon that there has been a delay.

He said: ‘Patrick Dorgu’s medical at Manchester United to be re-scheduled as could now take place over the weekend.

‘No issues or problems as a deal has been agreed but just due to documents/contracts Dorgu’s expected to fly to England over the weekend.’

Before Romano’s update, a report in Italy revealed ‘bonuses’ as the main reason why the announcement of the signing ‘could be delayed’

‘Lecce and Manchester United are finalizing the final details of Patrick Dorgu’s transfer across the channel based on a fixed 30 million plus another 7.5 million in additional bonuses.

‘This last point is being negotiated because Lecce would like them to be more easily accessible.

‘Bonuses are generally linked to both the player’s performance (appearances, assists, goals) and the club’s performance at the end of the season (ranking, qualifications for European Cups, etc.).’

‘In the meantime, both Manchester United and Lecce have looming competitive commitments that could delay the press release by a few hours.

‘It will be difficult for Dorgu to be part of the trip to Parma on Friday, although the Dane is training regularly.’

Man Utd: Marcus Rashford being ‘forced out’ for ‘survival’ of club?

Are Man Utd forcing Marcus Rashford out of the club because they need the money? It certainly feels like it.

Is Marcus Rashford being forced out?
I have to say I am fed up with the whole circus surrounding Rashford.

Again just like with Pogba, and Martial, and Sancho, we’re being told by the media that Rashford has an attitude problem. In fairness, some of this is off the back of comments made by the manager who is supposedly not happy with how Rashford is training. It does seem like it’s not just coincidence that all the players who get hounded out of the club are black, and it can’t be coincidence that I can’t think of any white players in the league who have notable off field disciplinary issues or attitude problems. Statistically that seems implausible.

Not that I’m trying to defend Rashford’s form this season, he’s not performed when he was in the team and no doubt he’d own up to that. But can we say that Antony has done better while he’s played? Has Garnacho? 4 goals and 1 assist in 15 vs 3 goals and 1 assist in 22 suggests no. And it’s funny how Garnacho’s sometimes subversive social media posts never come up as evidence of poor attitude, but obviously nothing to do with him being white.

No doubt some people will throw Rashford’s salary in his face as evidence. “He should be working harder for £300k a week!” I hear them frothing. But actually we’ve no evidence he doesn’t train as well as the others, just one person’s story to the media, in a very one sided, punching down kind of way. Rashford can’t exactly tell his side to the media nor would he want to no doubt.

We do have evidence that the owners are trying to pinch pennies and offload their highest earners and cash in on academy talent. We know that parties have been cancelled, staff have been fired, bonuses removed, ambassadorial roles curtailed, players moved on and Garnacho dangled in front of potential buyers. Is it more or less likely that the ownership have decided they need to get Rashford off the books and told the manager to force him out?

They’re not mutually exclusive off course, Amorim maybe has seen something he doesn’t like or he holds a player of Rashford’s abilities to a higher standard and is also tasked with forcing him out. It’s plausible, but then I see Antony getting game time and I think there is no way he’s seeing more from him. I see Højlund bundled off the ball again and I wonder if he’s really training harder.

I can understand why the media especially the Mail hates a successful, young, wealthy black man that shows up the Tories and their supporters for their heartless policies. But supposed Manchester United fans turning on him on account of this narrative, which let’s face it is basically just modern code for “lazy f***ing n*****” along with other racist tropes for black footballers (e.g. Beast, unit, monster that plays up their animalistic traits), is beyond disappointing. It’s shameful.

The clue is in the club name. Manchester United. United. And yet ‘fans’ are lining up to boot him out. A player that has has been with us since a kid, who’s devoted most of his life so far to the club, who is despite all the hate is still a fan and a human being. It’s ok to criticise his on field performances. It’s OK even if you think he’s not good enough to be at the club based on what you see on field. You can do that all and still wish him well in his future career away from Old Trafford. The vitriol over his reported off field antics, the buying into bullshit clickbait media stories, needs to stop.

I saw earlier this week a picture of Rashford as a kid waiting for a bus to get to training. He has dedicated more of his life to Man Utd than most people have dedicated to their careers. He’s been well recompensed for sure but so what and what’s it to any of us what he earns? So can people please just stop with the damned circus? If you haven’t got anything nice to say then just not say anything, and if he goes just wish him well on his way.

Man Utd need to get used to ‘painful’ mid-table
I think an email like Charly’s deserves a response. There is a temporal element that Charly seems to ignore. Any sensible United fan has been saying for 15 years that United is run terribly, notably under Ed Woodward and the Glazers. Any sensible United fan understands the Glazers have not ‘spent billions on transfers’ but have simply taken out money the entire time they’ve been owners. That panic buying (see Antony, Casemiro) and fear (see Rashford’s contract) are not the way to do things.

Here’s the TL:DR – the Glazers are terrible for United, should never have been allowed to buy the club and the Premier League should have forced them to sell if it cared a jot about what is good for football. (spoiler, it cares about one thing and one thing only, and it’s not clubs surviving)

What Charly misses is that there is, finally, some new leadership in place. So any hints of optimism does not stem from a dull 1-0 win at the Cottage, but from the hope that perhaps we might have some competent decision makers at the club. And here’s the rub: United have been run into the ground, financially. It cannot buy at present, because of how badly the Glazers have mismanaged us.

And so when I see Casemiro and Rashford frozen out, and realise that forcing the two of them to leave is actually fundamental to our survival as a going concern, and that the club are doing this, I at least acknowledge someone understands what is happening. When I see United choose a manager who relies on a system rather than relying on the best players, I think someone understands that we cannot keep spending like the top clubs, because in the short term we can’t.

Finally, anyone who realises all of this should come to the same conclusion I have: the next 2-3 years are going to be very, very painful as supporters. We will not sign big names, we will not buy our way to success and we will remain kind of mid-table, because that’s where the squad is, and where it will remain. But, if INEOS deal with the errors of the last few years, United can emerge in a much better place. That’s my cause for optimism.
Ryan, Bermuda (If Charly claims BHA’s wages of 1.1m per week is what Case is on, no wonder he’s still here)

The Man Utd transfer hall of shame
There’s a narrative currently that is reflected in media articles, and the mailbox opinions, that Antony is United’s worst transfer, and possibly the Premier League’s worst transfer too. Let me explain why both are wrong (recency effect?). Actually, by just highlighting why he’s not United’s worst, the second point will presumably be proven.

The first challenge is the fee of some £80m. We know this is not Antony’s fault. He is suffering from the Harry Maguire syndrome here. If he was bought at the same price as Malacia, people would immediately have a different perspective of him. Just by comparison Pogba was bought for £86m, and Sancho for £70m, and Di Maria for £60m.

The second part is his salary. He’s definitely more culpable here – but hey, can we really grudge him negotiating the highest possible salary? His performance definitely lacks any resemblance to his salary even after the deductions based on lack of Champions League games. In this category his competitors are Alexis Sanchez, Casemiro, Sancho, and Rashford since his most recent deal last year.

Lastly is his actual output on the pitch. Putting aside all financial considerations – as a Man United first team player (or even squad member) he has been distinctly poor. And compared to the hype created by his arrival, or based on the number of chances afforded to him, it’s been unacceptable. The comparisons here would be Memphis Depay, or Mkhitaryan, or even Shinji Kagawa, who all belied the promise and aura of their arrivals.

The fact that many of these players did better in other environments before or after raises another important point. Being United’s worst transfer (or in the shortlist) doesn’t make them bad players – just that it didn’t work out for them at Old Trafford. Even Juan Veron wasn’t a success at United.

Antony is a 25 year old. He definitely has time on his side. There’s a distinct possibility that in the slightly slower and more technical landscape of the La Liga, he turns out to be a different player altogether. He’s not a shirker, and his problems don’t stem from lack of effort or commitment.

In the pantheon of transfer failures therefore, I don’t think Antony sits at the top of the pile. Here’s my hall of shame counting down. For this discussion, let’s cast a veil over Sir Alex’s rotten tomatoes such as Bebe, Jemba Jemba, Dong, and Kleberson, and look at the post Fergie era. And you’ll notice that Anthony doesn’t make the top 5.

#5 – Bastian Schweinsteiger – the Casemiro of his time, except that he also had his mind on things outside of football, reportedly didn’t really spend enough time in Manchester, and although he didn’t cost a fortune, his salary of some £5m per year was really money thrown into a pit. A great player in his time. Okay-ish on the pitch. But really a terrible transfer for United. (Close tie between him and Schneiderlin for #5)

#4 – Depay – cost United £30m – which at the time was not insignificant. Played 29 games in his first season, scored 2 goals and had zero assists. Much like Antony, his confidence ran way ahead of him. Including his lip tattoo.

#3 – Di Maria – a player that did exceptionally well both before and after United. Just didn’t have the heart for his United stint. His treatment of the club, the fans, and his overall attitude while he was at United was abhorrent. A transfer that should never have happened, though United did well to recoup much of the fee. He didn’t do terribly – with 10 assists and 3 goals in his first season. But he was a British record transfer, and it ended in flames. Van Gaal was definitely to blame as well.

#2 – Alexis Sanchez – unstoppable at Arsenal, incapable at United. Whether he had just lost a yard of pace, or confidence, he was incredibly predictable – preferring always to cut back rather than beat the defender on the outside. Notionally a low cost transfer as a swap with Mkhitaryan, but at the time the highest paid player in the league. The Haaland of his time in terms of salary so to say, played 32 games and got 3 goals and 6 assists in the league in 2 years.

#1 – Paul Pogba – bought for £86 million after leaving for nothing. Could barely bring himself to run about a bit on the pitch. Was talented enough to perhaps be a Ballon D’Or contender, but his performance not only belied his talent, his fee and his salary, but also as the supposedly totemic player in the team, brought down the team’s performance significantly. Scored the occasional goal, and always just did enough to keep the wolves at bay. To me he qualifies as Man United’s worst signing simply for the waste of talent and the sheer lack of application. Left on a free again, to add insult to indolence.

So yes, Antony’s been a failure, but in the unfortunately long list of poor transfers at United in the past decade, I’d rate him better than these 5.

            Loving this Spurs disaster
You lot are going to think I’m mental, but I’m loving what is happening at my club, Tottenham, right now.

I know I know. What a premise eh! But as much as the injury crisis is crippling our season, and the fact we’re sliding inexplicably towards an area of the table we haven’t really been at since the early 00’s or even the late 90’s, the world, or at least the wider football universe, is finally seeing what is wrong with our club, or should I say – WHO!

The memes we’ve seen this week! My favourite was the one with Mourinho, Conte and Nuno on it, showing how well they’re doing since they released themselves from the shackles of THFC and Daniel Levy. They were all treated a different shade of terribly, Nuno undermined from the start with a sawn off shotgun approach to manager recruitment which saw us flash our knickers all over Europe. Mourinho sacked a week before a cup final and Conte pushed to the point of mania, no doubt partly caused by a dark year in his life with the loss of Vialli amongst other friends, but also the common thread of managing Tottenham. Operating with an arm tied behind your back.

Then there’s the imaginary “WhatsApp group” of ex players who have gone on to win trophies. Even flops like Emerson Royal and Tanguy N’Dombele have won! It must be about 50 strong now. The joke about Eriksen dying, coming back to life, and winning a league title and an FA Cup is funny, if a little dark.

The person at the top of any organisation is the one responsible for the success and the culture. From the word go, the acceptance of mediocrity and the laser focus on everything EXCEPT what makes a club a club, which is the football team and how it performs on the pitch, has led us to where we are now. A club who has a stadium described by Pochettino as “like having a big beautiful house, now it’s time to put some furniture in it”.

Six years on from then, and we’re still hanging around bonfire sites for smouldering three piece suites and raiding charity shops for hastily binned cast offs, or that familiar annual visit to the Premier League graveyard to desecrate the graves of the recently deceased. The thought of “where does this player play?’ Or ‘is this player needed?’ Never seem to enter the consciousness of the man at the top. And this is what leads to having a Europa League squad with no back up left back but 4 or 5 keepers.

This month has seen the injuries pile up, as an ever diminishing pool of players see their workload incrementally increase as a result. Archie Gray runs until his lungs burst. Porro has gone public to state that the players aren’t being overtrained as some, dare I say ‘briefed’ journalists have come out recently to say. Kukusevski going public to say the players still believe in the philosophy and are fighting for their manager. And yet the chairman hasn’t put a dent in that £200m cash sat in the club coffers. In years gone by, Levy will have approached his friendly journos and the spin machine would crank up, and unusually led to opinions among supporters and squad reached the critical mass to fire the manager.

It started two weeks ago, But it’s not working this time.

Postecoglou is currently in one of the worst runs of any Spurs manager in the last 50-60 years, save for a relegation season in the 70’s. Levy has sacked AVB on almost 2 points per game in 2013 as the players and fans had given up. Nuno, Harry Redknapp, Mourinho, Pochettino, have all been dispensed with. The latter was the one that really broke me and set me on a road of just wanting this owner out

Relatively speaking, there are lots of clubs worse off than us, and loads with worse owners even, but all a supporter really wants is for a club to be the best it can be. Tottenham, or should I say ENIC, aren’t doing that. The tills are ringing, but the best performances at the new stadium are more Beyoncé than Bergvall. The only records being set are the ones on the go kart track under the stadium, and the closest we get to ‘aiming high so even failure has an echo of glory”, is paying £50 to go on the Dare Skywalk. We’ve become an entertainment entity with a falling team attached to it. A franchise club who rather than buying a player for a specific part of the team, looks for a player from a particular part of the world to exploit lucrative markets.

The failure of the club at present is entirely down to the man at the top. The manager and players make errors on a micro level of course, just like all managers and players, but what we’re seeing played out is a squad starved of quality investment, the same fate every manager has suffered. It’s time to get him out at all costs.

            Woe is Arsenal
Is there anything Arsenal won’t get blamed for?

It’s now apparently an outrage that we bid for Ollie Watkins on Monday, two whole days before he was next due to play a match.

Please can F365 clarify how long before a player’s next match is an acceptable time period to make a transfer offer?
Ben, AFC (honestly the discourse around this team is just insane)

Wayne Rooney reveals what he’s privately told Rashford about his “sad” and “embarrassing” Man United reality

Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has revealed that he’s advised Marcus Rashford on multiple occasions to leave Old Trafford for his own sake.

Rashford has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim and it’s believed the club are open to offloading him this month.

The England international has not featured in United’s last 11 games across all competitions, after admitting in an interview shortly before Christmas, that he is ready for a new challenge elsewhere.

Amorim has insisted severally that Rashford’s exile is a result of his poor performances in training.

Ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Romanian outfit FCSB, the Portuguese coach told reporters that Rashford “has to change” his ways before being reinstated into the team.

The forward continues to be linked to a number of clubs both in Europe and abroad but with four days left until the close of the window, his chances of securing a transfer are looking slim.

Rooney has now chimed in, indicating that on a recent visit to Carrington, he spotted Rashford training alone – a situation he described as “embarrassing.”

United’s record goalscorer said on the Stick to Football podcast, “I went into Carrington on Sunday to take my kids to game day and Marcus was out on the training pitch with the fitness coach but he was right over towards where the parents were walking past for the kids’ games.”

“I remember looking at him and I was thinking if that was me there… how embarrassing is it that the parents are walking past.”

“It’s all getting re-done so they’re on the academy side, so he’s there and all the parents are walking past.”

Asked if he was surprised by Amorim’s comments that Rashford has not been training well, Rooney replied, “I was surprised when this started over two years ago, I was surprised then, now I’m not.”

“I’ve spoken to Marcus a couple of times, I’ve given him my thoughts, my opinion, I’ve said you need to need to leave the football club.”

“Because whatever is going on in his life, whatever is going on at Manchester United, he’s not the same, it’s not him, so I said for him to have a fresh start he needs to leave the club. But I agree with Roy, the fact the manager has come out saying you’re not training right is crazy.”

“When I asked Alex Ferguson to leave the club, I still come in and trained every single day, worked every single day, and Fergie outed me about two months after I asked to leave.”

Rooney added, “So managers do it at the right time as well when they need to get rid of a player, I got injured, Scholesey took me out, and then that was Fergie’s chance to come out and have a go at me and bring it all to the table.”

“I think with Marcus it’s been going on for two years and it’s sad, it’s really sad.”

United vs. FCSB kicks off at 20:00 GMT.

Fabrizio Romano: Classy United target seals €80m move to Bundesliga giants

Manchester United’s winter transfer business is yet to catch fire with just days left inn the January window.

Both incomings and outcomings were expected at Old Trafford but only Brazilian winger Antony has left the club with no one officially through the doors, as yet.

United have been linked with a raft of players but can scratch the name of Xavi Simon’s off their shortlist with the attacking midfielder signing a permanent deal with Bundesliga side, RB Leipzig.

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano confirmed the news with a post on his X account.

🚨🔴⚪️ Xavi Simons becomes RB Leipzig player on permanent transfer from PSG.

                — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 30, 2025

The Germans will pay an €80m package with a €55m initial fee to be made up by future add-ons plus a sell-on clause.

Having shelled out for Georgian star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month, PSG have now practically balanced their books in Paris and will be very satisfied with their winter business.

United were not heavily linked with the Simons this month but he has been a long standing target for the club, who may have looked to reignite their interest in the summer.

However, any dream of Simons in a United shirt now looks to be over given his big money move.

United are desperate to add numbers and quality to their front line with Amorim’s side struggling to make, and take, chances at present.

Coupled with the likelihood of losing Marcus Rashford in the coming days, the Portuguese head coach could really do with some extra firepower in his ranks.

It’s expected United will complete the signing of wing-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce before the window shuts but do still have their eyes open for a forward player.

However, with time running out, Amorim may have to make do with his current crop and navigate his way to the end of the season before diving into the summer market.

United are back in action this evening as they travel to Bucharest to round off their Europe League first round schedule against FCSB.

Man Utd make shock move for second Bayern star amid Tel doubts as ‘advantage’ revealed’

Manchester United reportedly hold the ‘advantage’ in the race to sign Bryan Zaragoza from Bayern Munich amid doubts over their move for Mathys Tel.

Tel joined Bayern Munich from Ligue 1 outfit Rennes during the 2022 summer transfer window for around £23m and has 16 goals in 83 appearances for the Bundesliga giants.

But he’s goalless in his 14 games this term and has started on just five occasions, with Harry Kane proving to be a significant obstacle to more consistent game time.

Earlier this week, it was revealed that the teenager has ‘decided’ to leave Bayern Munich with loan and permanent offers on the table.

On Wednesday night, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed they are “considering” what to do with Tel before the window closes.

Eberl said: “We spoke in December, and Mathys said he wanted to assert himself.

“Now he has said he would like to leave. Now we have to consider whether we will do it and what we will do.”

Earlier this month, Chelsea were linked with Tel but The Athletic’s David Ornstein has confirmed Man Utd’s ‘interest’ in the forward.

‘Manchester United are interested in a potential move for Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel, should the 19-year-old be made available to leave on loan before the transfer window closes.

‘The Premier League club are not actively progressing the situation while they focus on departures, but signing Tel on a temporary basis carries appeal at Old Trafford. Contact so far has been with Tel’s representatives, rather than with Bayern.

‘Head coach Ruben Amorim is keen to add reinforcements this month with a broad agreement already reached for the signing of full-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce.

‘Tel is another option being considered by United but there would need to be further outgoings for any move to go forward.’

But Florian Plettenberg claimed on Thursday that Tottenham are in ‘direct talks’ with Tel’s representatives, while the teenager is thought to be ‘very open’ to a move to Arsenal, who are considering him as one of five alternatives to Ollie Watkins.

Such stiff competition may lead United to look elsewhere and Spanish outlet Fiches claim Zaragoza is on their radar.

The 23-year-old winger moved to Bayern on loan from Granada in January 2024 before making the move permanent in the summer, but was sent temporarily to Osasuna for the season.

He’s currently sidelined with a metatarsal fracture but is expected back soon and has impressed for the La Liga side this season, with a goal and five assists from his left wing position in 15 games.

The report claims United are ‘attracted by his talent, speed and ability to unbalance in the one-on-one’ and that the Red Devils ‘have an advantage in the race to get his services’.

Osasuna want to retain him but won’t be able to compete with the ‘large figures’ United are prepared to offer the player and Bayern to secure his transfer.

The reports adds that United are ‘determined to turn Zaragoza into one of its strategic bets for the 2025/2026 season’.

According to reports, Tottenham Hotspur are in ‘direct talks’ to sign Bayern Munich forward Mathys Tel amid interest from Chelsea and Manchester United.

Several Premier League sides are in the market for a new striker and Tel has emerged as an option for the Big Six.

The 19-year-old joined Bayern Munich from Ligue Un outfit Rennes during the 2022 summer transfer window for around £23m.

The France U21 international has 16 goals in 83 appearances for the Bundesliga giants. He is goalless in his 14 outings this term as he’s only made five starts.

On Wednesday night, Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed they are “considering” what to do with Tel before the window closes.

However, Man Utd and Chelsea could miss out on Tel as Spurs are also keen to sign Tel this month.

He later added: “Four Premier League teams are specifically interested in Mathys #Tel. They have gathered all the information, are in contact with Tel’s agent, and some have already reached out to Bayern: Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, and Tottenham.

“In addition, clubs from the Bundesliga, France, and other countries are also keen on him.

“Bayern are considering both a loan and a permanent deal – everything is possible. His contract runs until 2029.”

Tactical analysis: Amorim can secure a comfortable United win at FCSB with this simple tweak

Manchester United are set to face FCSB tonight in what is their final UEFA Europa League group stage match.

Sitting in 4th place with 15 points, Man United are on the verge of securing automatic qualification to the Europa League knockouts, meaning that a win would cement their progress.

Still, FCSB, who are set to host United at The National Arena in Romania, have enjoyed a successful Europa League campaign as well. They currently sit in eighth place, the last automatic qualifying spot, with 14 points.

While an impressive showing by the Romanian outfit, it’s important to note that FCSB’s victories have come against opposition of a lower calibre than United, namely RFS, PAOK, and FC Midtjylland.

But even if the hosts are clearly the underdogs going into the encounter, United will need to make certain improvements in order to secure three points in Bucharest.

Pulling off a valuable 1-0 away win over Fulham last weekend, United showed that struggles still persist in terms of creating goalscoring opportunities, but more specifically, putting their existing chances away.

Ruben Amorim’s squad took just four shots in the entire match, with a deflection off Lisandro Martinez’s second-half strike handing United a late win.

While the team managed 16 shots in their previous match, namely a 2-1 win over Rangers in the Europa League, the match before it – a 3-1 home defeat to Brighton – saw United take 10 shots yet create just one big chance.

Even in the 3-1 victory against Premier League strugglers, it took until the 82nd minute for United to find a breakthrough after trailing 1-0 for much of the match. Also important to consider is that United took a colossal 23 shots, meaning that the three goals came after heavy struggles in the final third for most of the contest.

Unfortunately, a lack of options at striker has been a consistent issue for United, with Rasmus Hojlund performing poorly yet again, while Joshua Zirkzee also hasn’t had much success in front of goal this season.

Ultimately, quicker counter-attacking and less hesitation in the final third is needed from United, while the wingers on the night, who could be Alejandro Garnacho and Amad Diallo, may need to show some creativity of their own should their striker underperform as has been the case as of late.

Surprisingly, United’s defence held steady in their previous encounter against Fulham, keeping a clean sheet and defending three corners, seemingly leaving their set-piece struggles in the past.

Now, it seems that a tougher attack is needed if United are to score the goals they need to get the best of their Romanian opponents this evening. Given Amorim’s team’s ability to score against top-drawer opposition in recent times, a simple tweak in mentality and more urgency up front should easily catapult the Portuguese manager’s team to a comfortable win.
