English side “interested” in offering ex-United coach quickfire return to management after brutal axe by Amorim – report

    english-side-“interested”-in-offering-ex-united-coach-quickfire-return-to-management-after-brutal-axe-by-amorim-–-report

Despite receiving extensive backing in the summer window, Erik ten Hag just could not get Manchester United to start performing with the club enduring their worst start in 35 years.

And the defeat to West Ham, which left the Red Devils perilously close to the relegation zone, forced INEOS into action as they sacked the Dutchman and put assistant coach Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge on an interim basis.

The former club striker did a great job in steadying the ship, with the 20-time English league champions going on a four-match unbeaten run which included three emphatic wins.

The Old Trafford side are only four points off the top four with plenty of big-name stars returning to form under the interim manager, a huge boost for new head coach Ruben Amorim.

    Ruud’s time at the club

The players wanted Van Nistelrooy to stay, and the ex-Netherlands star also expressed his wish to continue working under the Portuguese but Amorim decided otherwise.

He brought in six of his own staff from Sporting Lisbon and out went almost the entire backroom staff except Darren Fletcher and Andreas Georgson.

Van Nistelrooy’s record at United and PSV Eindhoven will stand him in good stead and it seems he could be in line for a shock return to England with Burnley interested in his services according to The Sun.

The Championship side had courted the 48-year-old in the summer, holding a few meeting with him as well, but the lure of returning to Old Trafford proved too difficult to turn down and he choose to join United as an assistant coach instead.

Now the Clarets, who are fourth in the table, could go back in for the Dutchman following significant fan unrest. Burnley have not won a game in their last four attempts and have scored only nine goals in their last 13 games.

Scott Parker, the current Burnley boss is under pressure and while owner Alan Pace is known to give his managers time, Van Nistelrooy’s availability could force a rethink if results do not improve.

“RUUD VAN NISTELROOY could be set for a quickfire return to football, SunSport has learned. His spell at the Red Devils, on top of his impressive season in charge of PSV, have seen his stocks rise and SunSport understands Burnley are interested.

    Burnley again

“Their managerial hunt in the summer saw both Van Nistelrooy and Scott Parker as candidates – with the Clarets appointing the latter.

“Burnley could now look to revisit that situation if they feel they are heading in the wrong direction under Parker. Across Burnley’s last 13 league games since, they’ve only managed nine goals. A disgruntled Turf Moor could be beginning to turn on Parker despite them still sitting fourth in the table.”

Despite his stint as assistant, the former Real Madrid striker never hid his desire of returning to management and the challenge of taking back the Clarets to the Premier League could be too hard to turn down.

He could get the chance to manage in the English top-flight should he prove successful and it would send a telling message to INEOS and Amorim and remind them of his credentials.

Amorim’s first signing: United plotting £10m January swoop for 17yo wonderkid wanted by half of Europe – report

      amorim’s-first-signing:-united-plotting-10m-january-swoop-for-17yo-wonderkid-wanted-by-half-of-europe-–-report

Manchester United’s current midfield needs a revamp with new head coach Ruben Amorim looking to sign players who can handle the intensity of his 3-4-3 system.

Christian Eriksen, who enjoyed a mini-renaissance under Erik ten Hag this season, will be the first to be let go despite his impressive form. And Casemiro could soon follow suit.

INEOS’ project involves signing young players with potential instead of big-name stars, which was a norm under the Glazers, as seen during their summer splurge.

And their January business will also be along similar lines with TBR Football claiming the Red Devils will pounce for in-demand Rosenborg youngster Sverre Nypan.

      Nypan interest

The midfielder has seven goals and 10 assists in 31 appearances and he impressed against the Old Trafford side during their pre-season friendly.

The Norwegian can play all across the midfield and has even been tried out in front on his own, and this versatility could prove handy for Amorim.

Norway’s league season ends in December and the 20-time English league champions are preparing to swoop in the winter to beat off competition from Europe’s elite clubs.

Premier League rivals Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all contacted the 17-year-old’s camp recently while Manchester City and Chelsea are also interested.

Apart from English clubs, Bayern Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Monaco, Atalanta and Napoli are also in the race with the Norway U21 international likely to cost £10 million upfront with another £10 million in potential add-ons.

United are confident of winning the race as they have been looking at Nypan since he was only 14 and they have visited him multiple times.

“TBR Football confirms that United are confident of signing another new midfielder in the near future, Rosenborg’s Sverre Nypan. Rosenborg have told Nypan to begin choosing his next club once their season finishes in early December.

      January deal on the cards

“Nypan is available for around £10m, but there could be add-ons taking the deal closer to £20m. As a result, United are working to try and conclude a deal, with Nypan’s camp set to sit down and assess their options.

“Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all had contact with Nypan’s representatives in recent months. They are also joined by Man City’s owners the City Football Group and also BlueCo – Chelsea’s parent company.

“Of course, interest in Nypan isn’t limited to the England. Bayern Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Monaco, Atalanta and Napoli are amongst the clubs also keen to try and convince Nypan to sign for them.”

Whether Nypan will have to play in the reserves first or whether he can come straight into the United first team remains to be seen. But the future certainly will look a lot brighter with his signing secured.

Man Utd legend snubs Gyokeres for ‘guarantee’; names two signings Amorim ‘needs’ amid three priorities

        man-utd-legend-snubs-gyokeres-for-‘guarantee’;-names-two-signings-amorim-‘needs’-amid-three-priorities

Manchester United legend Louis Saha has snubbed Viktor Gyokeres as his former club “needs” to sign an alternative who is “more of a guarantee”.

Following the appointment of Ruben Amorim, Man Utd have been heavily linked with Sporting Lisbon standout Gyokeres.

Amorim has got the best out of Gyokeres, who is the 2024 top scorer in Europe. He has 66 goals and 19 assists in his 68 appearances for Sporting Lisbon since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Man Utd have been short of goals this season and Amorim is reportedly ready to get rid of two ‘resounding failures’.

On paper, Gyokeres would be a superb signing for Man Utd. Despite this, Saha has explained why he thinks they should buy Victor Osimhen instead.

“If you look at the stats, Man Utd should go after Victor Osimhen over Viktor Gyokeres, it’s as simple as that. He’s been scoring goals for four years at Napoli and has done exactly the same since joining Galatasaray, scoring goals for fun,” Saha said.

“He is a huge character and has the confidence to be a success everywhere he goes. I think there is a bit more of a guarantee behind him given the amount of time he has been successful.

“He is a big game player and he loves the game, he doesn’t care how his goals go in, he just wants to score and that’s what he does. He is very focused and he reminds me of Erling Haaland in that sense. I think he could be what Man Utd need.”

Saha has also urged his former club to sign Real Madrid starlet Arda Guler as they have “lots they could offer” him.

“Manchester United have lots they could offer Arda Guler, including more playing time than he gets at Real Madrid currently,” Saha added.

“United need that type of playmaker who plays with freedom and it’s very difficult for young players to get that at Real Madrid, especially in midfield.

“He could thrive at United with that opportunity. He needs to play to reach his potential and maybe a loan would suit him after he was so impressive at Euro 2024, he is a very clever player.

“United need someone who can provide chances to players like Bruno Fernandes and Rasmus Hojlund, they need a player who is capable of playing that final pass and that could be him.”

According to Saha, Amorim has three areas he immediately needs to address after taking over at Man Utd.

“Ruben Amorim needs to bring consistency to Man Utd, give his players confidence in themselves as well as freedom to perform,” Saha claimed.

“To win titles they need to win games but show they can do so on a consistent basis, he needs to find the right balance between discipline and freedom to allow his players to be at their best.”

United have their very own Bukayo Saka, wonderkid could be promoted to first-team by Amorim – report

            united-have-their-very-own-bukayo-saka,-wonderkid-could-be-promoted-to-first-team-by-amorim-–-report

Manchester United’s highly-regarded talent Bendito Mantato is expected to be handed first-team opportunities under Ruben Amorim.

Amorim ended the duopoly of SL Benfica and FC Porto in 2021, steering Sporting CP to their first Primeira Liga title in almost two decades. Most impressively, the 39-year-old tactical genius managed the feat, which he repeated last season, without spending too much.

He turned Sporting’s fortunes by relying on the club’s academy and improving individual player performance. INEOS would now hope to see the same magic in Manchester.

Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Amorim is excited to work with Leny Yoro. The 19-year-old centre-back is considered a generational talent by the new manager as well as his staff.

Now, a report from the Manchester Evening News suggests another young United talent might push his way into Amorim’s plans.

It is understood that Mantato, 16, could “eventually be promoted to the first-team” by the Portuguese manager.

The Englishman, who joined United’s academy aged nine, is viewed as one of the most promising prospects at the club and is currently a regular fixture in United’s U-18 side. He was even rewarded with an appearance for the Under-21s recently.

Mantato previously played at left-back, but this season he has mostly played as a winger on the right flank.

This progress has also led to comparisons with Arsenal star Bukayo Saka, who made his breakthrough in North London as a full-back before establishing himself as an elite forward.

The experience of playing as a defender as well as an attacker has supposedly increased Mantato’s chances of breaking into the first team under Amorim.

Wing-backs are a crucial part of his 3-4-3 system and United first-team don’t have too many players like Mantato, who has positional awareness, pace, intensity, and dribbling ability to shine in that area of the field.

This season, the youngster has scored six goals and assisted once in nine appearances across all competitions.

United could be forced to swoop for rising sensation in January to beat off competition from Liverpool – report

              united-could-be-forced-to-swoop-for-rising-sensation-in-january-to-beat-off-competition-from-liverpool-–-report

Manchester United have been playing without a specialist left-back for the best part of two seasons and it is clear that a solution is needed moving forward.

First-choice left-back Luke Shaw missed over 30 games last season while Tyrell Malacia missed the whole campaign. The England international is still sidelined while the Netherlands star is inching closer to his return.

So far this season, both right-backs Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have taken turns in playing there while centre-back Lisandro Martinez has also deputised there.

Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy both opted against throwing academy sensation Harry Amass into the deep end and his time might not even come if a recent report is to be believed.

              LB needed

The Red Devils might not need a traditional left-back any longer with new head coach Ruben Amorim’s system incorporating the use of wing-backs instead.

And former United academy star Alvaro Fernandez, sold by the former Dutch manager, has been in impressive form for Benfica this season.

The Spaniard is a regular for the Portuguese giants, starting in all but two games this season, while netting twice and registering as many assists.

And Amorim knows all about the 21-year-old from his time at Sporting Lisbon and is contemplating a future approach for the Spain U21 international as per Correio da Manhã (via Sport Witness).

              Alvaro return

However, Liverpool’s “real” interest in the former United youngster has complicated matters and could force the 20-time English league champions to exercise their buyback clause as early as January.

Benfica have slapped a release clause of €50 million in the Spaniard’s contract but the Merseyside are prepared to pay that and thus, the Red Devils could be forced to pay €20 million to win the race.

Fernandez’ “potential is impressing Europe” with Real Madrid also reportedly in the race. And as time passes, his list of suitors will only increase.

Amorim feels he has the attributes to fit into his style and a January approach could be on the cards if INEOS can cough up the required money.

Robbie Savage – Diary of a Football Manager: Why I became a boss at Macclesfield…

                robbie-savage-–-diary-of-a-football-manager:-why-i-became-a-boss-at-macclesfield…

Robbie Savage is joining F365 to give us an exclusive insight into his first steps in football management. It’s going rather well so far…

In association with Planet Sport Bet, Robbie will take us behind the scenes each week at Macclesfield FC, the phoenix club rising from the ashes of Macclesfield Town, who went bust in 2020.

Robbie has played one of the leading roles in the rebirth of a now-thriving football club, first as director of football, now as first-team manager as the Silkmen seek to climb their way from the ninth tier back to the Football League.

In his first diary dispatch from Macclesfield, Robbie reveals his motivation for going into management, his ambition, and what’s important to him as the boss…

You didn’t expect that I would be the manager of the only unbeaten team remaining in the top seven tiers of English football, did you?

Nor did I. I didn’t expect to be a manager at all. That wasn’t the plan. Punditry was more suited to my personality when I retired, and I never thought managing would be for me. But I always wondered if I could do it.

It took a lot of persuasion to get involved at Macclesfield FC, as director of football, when my business partner Rob Smethurst bought the assets of Macclesfield Town off Right Move after the old club went bust in 2020. I’m delighted he talked me in to it because, even though it has been a whirlwind, it has taught me how to run a thriving football club.

Perhaps inevitably, even though I was in the background, all the scrutiny was on me. Coming up from the North West Counties Football League to where we are now, the Northern Premier League, the narrative was that if we lost, it was my fault. People said I picked the team. That was not true.

Last summer was the tipping point. We lost in the promotion play-off final to Marine. They deserved to win. Afterwards I was sat at home with my family, receiving a stream of personal messages from different individuals, gloating gleefully, rubbing it in. But as director of football, I wasn’t in a position to influence matches as they were unfolding, despite the perception that I was.

That frustration built up and then I got a call from another club asking me to be their head coach.

At first, I felt that it would be very difficult, with my shareholding at Macclesfield and BBC 606 commitments. But the idea grew on me. So I went to the board and told them I was going to accept the offer.

I decided I wanted to be a manager, to be accountable, since everyone assumed I was anyway. If I was going to be blamed for the decisions, I should be the manager making them. The other board members understood my desire to take that step and they decided that I should do it here at Macclesfield.

If I’m not good enough as a manager, then at least in future, I can look at myself in the mirror and hold myself accountable. That’s always been important to me, as a player and a pundit. I wasn’t good enough to play for Manchester United, but I bounced back. In the media, I started by doing 5Live Extra for a year, going to Colchester in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy to learn and work my way up and I’ve done OK since. As director of football, with Rob, we brought this club back from the dead. The next step for me was management.

And, naturally, I want to go as far as a I can. I want to manage in the Premier League or Championship. Ideally, with Macclesfield. But it won’t matter if we don’t get promoted this season because I’ll be out of this job, never mind being considered for others.

That’s the promise I’ve made: we’ll be up or I’ll be out. It’s a long season and we’ve achieved nothing yet, but right now, we’re going well. We’re top of the table, unbeaten, having won 14 out of 16.

238 teams from the Premier League to Step Three of Non League – only Macclesfield FC remain unbeaten in the league 📊

                — Macclesfield FC (@thesilkmen) November 10, 2024

Critics say we should be top of the table. That’s fair. We have got the biggest budget. But other teams have similar budgets and we’re all training twice a week. As we’ve seen at every level, from the Premier League down, money is absolutely no guarantee of success.

People matter more, and I feel we’ve built a fantastic squad here. A group that is hungry to play at a higher level, and I would trust these players in the National League. You will hear plenty more in the coming weeks about the lads, some of whom are playing and training around jobs as teachers, personal trainers, plumbers. None of these boys are full-time professionals. But they’ve got the drive and I love helping them to strive and be the best players they can be.

There are so many good players at this level, lads who I cannot believe haven’t played in the Football League yet. The only differences between many EFL players and plenty of these boys: consistency and decision-making.

It was said of the team last season that they weren’t consistent enough and I thought a lot about that when I took the job. This season, so far, they have shown remarkable consistency. I’ll talk more next time about why that might be.

To me, my team is just as important as the team. That’s the whole staff, but closest to me are my assistant Peter Band and first-team coach John McMahon. Bandy has managed countless games in non-league; John was reserve-team coach at Liverpool under Rafa Benitez and he’s seen it all in the Football League.

They are so important for me. Football is ruthless and I learned as a player that trust is everything. I trust these guys.

We’ve seen it this week with Ruben Amorim going in to Manchester United, and Ruud van Nistelrooy leaving. It’s a massive job for Amorim and he knows he needs people around him he can trust. The new manager has got an inner circle and you can’t simply integrate someone into that because he’s a Manchester United legend.

And it’s the same for me. Hypothetically, if I was offered a job anywhere, I would want to take my staff with me. We would have to go together. People don’t recognise the collaboration that goes on and you have you have the utmost trust in them. You cannot force that overnight.

But, first, we have a huge job here at Macclesfield. And I’m buzzing off it.

Coming up this week: Curzon Ashton (A), FA Trophy second round.
We have a break from the league on Saturday but there will be no easing up when we go 25 miles up the road to a side flying high in the division above.

We got to the last four of the FA Trophy last season, the only club outside the National League to do so, and the first time the semi-final it was a single-legged tie. We lost 2-1 at Gateshead, but if we had the chance to bring them back to our place, I would have fancied us to get to Wembley, which could have been massive for us.

INEOS’ ruthless cost-cutting measures continue with Wayne Rooney the latest to fall prey – report

                  ineos’-ruthless-cost-cutting-measures-continue-with-wayne-rooney-the-latest-to-fall-prey-–-report

INEOS taking over the sporting structure at Manchester United led to a raft of behind-the-scenes changes at Old Trafford.

As well as employing a best-in-class team to support the manager, Sir Jim Ratcliffe has studied the books and made some ruthless cuts to high-profile names in certain roles at the club.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassadorial position was one casualty of Ratcliffe’s tightening of the purse strings and it seems he will continue to be keeping a close eye on such roles in the future.

As reported by The Express, club legend Wayne Rooney is not expected to be offered a similar role to Ferguson despite it being promised to him a decade ago.

As part of Rooney’s contract signed back in 2014, an ambassadorial position was agreed should he end his career at the club.

However, Rooney’s move to Everton in 2017 meant United were no longer contractually obligated to offer such the same role but it was expected the club would stick to their word, given his status at the Theatre of Dreams.

But, INEOS are said to be moving away from ambassadorial roles which means United’s record scorer will not be entertained for a behind-the-scenes position, should he want it.

Rooney is currently managing Championship side Plymouth Argyle so he wouldn’t be in a position to join United in any capacity right now but may have had his eye on it in the future.

INEOS were reportedly shocked at the United accounts and in particularly the money spent on roles that were not directly affecting on-the-field outcomes.

Sir Alex Ferguson was apparently earning over £2 million-a-year from the club since retiring in 2013 and INEOS are keen to ensure all funds are focused on arresting the team’s slide from the top of the English game.

United haven’t been close to winning a Premier League title since Sir Alex retired and INEOS are now charged with returning the club to former glories.

Such decisions certainly show the new minority owners mean business and it seems no one will be onboarded in an official capacity at United unless they are helping to drive the club forward on the pitch.

Man Utd set for ‘first signing of Ruben Amorim era’ as Red Devils ‘confident’ of beating Man City, Chelsea

Manchester United have reportedly identified (another) ‘first player of the Ruben Amorim era’ at Old Trafford, and are ‘confident’ of beating Manchester City to the punch.

Amorim’s arrival as Erik ten Hag’s permanent successor has inevitably set the rumour mill turning ahead of the January transfer window, despite reports suggesting he will have limited funds to spend amid the Red Devils’ concerns over breaching FFP regulations.

Barcelona’s Andreas Christensen, Juventus’ Danilo, Wolves left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, Chelsea star Christopher Nkunku and even Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala have all been tipped to be the Portuguese manager’s ‘first signing’, with Viktor Gyokeres only avoiding that label because Amorim himself ruled out a January move.

Now TBR claim United are ‘confident’ if signing Rosenbord teenager Sverre Nepal.

The 17-year-old has already made 58 appearance for the Norwegian side, contributing 12 goals and 11 assists from central midfield.

United have been ‘determined to beat Manchester City to Nypan’ and ‘they’re now confident’ of doing that following Amorim’s arrival.

Nypan is available for around £10m, though add-ons could take the deal closer to £20m, and the report claims Rosenborg have ‘told Nypan to begin choosing his next club once their season finishes in early December’.

                    The report adds:

‘United are working to try and conclude a deal, with Nypan’s camp set to sit down and assess their options.

‘United are confident, they have been tracking the young Norwegian talent since he was 14/15-years-old, and he has been visited more than once.

‘However, the club knows the fact that they’ve not tied him down yet has left the door open to others.

‘Arsenal, Liverpool, Newcastle and Aston Villa have all had contact with Nypan’s representatives in recent months.

‘They are also joined by Man City’s owners the City Football Group and also BlueCo – Chelsea’s parent company.

‘Both clubs would prefer to see Nypan start his senior career away from England before eventually moving to the Premier League.’

Nypan would be competing with Manuel Ugarte for a spot in midfield should he make the move to United, and Amorim will be hoping to get the best out of the Uruguayan midfielder, who made his name under him at Sporting before moving to PSG and then United in the summer.

Other Sporting stars may well follow, but as Amorim pointed out after agreeing his United contract, a move for star striker Gyokeres may have to wait.

“I can’t make fun of it, right now, it was hard for me to leave, if I start joking about this Gyokeres situation I’ll get in trouble,” Amorim said on TNT Sports. “This is my city, this is my country, so I’ll respect it.

“Viktor has to stay until the end of the season, and then his life maybe is going somewhere else.”

Manchester United are reportedly ramping up efforts to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Last month, The Peoples Person discussed the claim that Gyokeres could become Ruben Amorim’s first signing at Man United, especially given that the striker worked under the Portuguese managed up until his move to Old Trafford on Monday.

Still, convincing the Swede to leave Sporting may prove challenging for United. “I’m here, and I really like being here. It’s not something I think about. I’m enjoying it here,” Gyokeres responded when asked about his United links.

What’s more, Paris Saint-Germain is believed to be interested in Gyokeres, further complicating United’s approach.

Fabrizio Romano’s Daily Briefing revealed this morning, however, that United may have an alternative approach to convincing Sporting to send Gyokeres in their direction as opposed to other transfer rivals.

“Manchester United are ready to make their move for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres by offering cash plus a player in return, the Daily Briefing understands,” the report read.

Additionally, Romano’s outlet acknowledged that Joshua Zirkzee’s future at United appears to be in doubt.

Caughtoffside acknowledged these findings, claiming that Zirkzee could be the player who United sends in Sporting’s direction to convince the Portuguese club to part ways with Gyokeres.

While exchanging the struggling Zirkzee for Gyokeres may seem like an obvious choice, United will want to consider all their options before parting ways with the former Bologna star.

Reports have indicated that Gyokeres may be available next summer for a price of £63 million, a potentially affordable price for United that would enable them to retain Zirkzee and give him an opportunity to adjust and perhaps unlock his potential.

What’s more, Sporting President Frederico Varandas exhibited a willingness to allow Gyokeres to depart the club should he desire, which could mean that the club won’t put up a fight should United prepare an approach.

Still, any future transfer decisions may need to be put on hold until Amorim begins his tenure as United manager. After all, it will only be once the team adjusts to life under Amorim that we will be able to see where their problem areas lie.
