United star who had lost his way under Ten Hag “has been saved by Amorim” with contract extension likely – report

    united-star-who-had-lost-his-way-under-ten-hag-“has-been-saved-by-amorim”-with-contract-extension-likely-–-report

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire was imperious against Manchester City last weekend, helping his side claim a come-from-behind 2-1 win against their noisy neighbours.

The 31-year-old has played a part in all four of their Premier league games, starting against Pep Guardiola’s side in the middle of the back three and excelled there.

The Englishman has struggled at times in the back four but has played some of his best football as part of a back three for both club and country.

And his performances, professionalism off the pitch have impressed Ruben Amorim enough to warrant an extended stay at Old Trafford as per Givemesport.

    Maguire has impressed Amorim

“Manchester United star Harry Maguire is not on course to be put on the market during the fast-approaching winter transfer window as head coach Ruben Amorim is confident he can become a key part of his Old Trafford plans and wants to extend his contract, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.

“Maguire’s Manchester United career has been saved by Amorim, according to GMS sources, and there is an increasing expectation that a one-year option to extend his contract will be triggered by his current employers to end speculation over whether he could depart as a free agent.

“GMS sources have been informed that Amorim has admired Maguire’s mindset and professionalism since his arrival in the Manchester United hot-seat, while he is adamant that he is capable of making himself one of the first names on the team sheet in his favoured system.”

The 31-year-old’s current deal ends in 2025 with the club holding the option of triggering a one-year extension. And Amorim, who has the final say regarding contract extensions, has seemingly provided the green light.

    Contract extension on the cards

Maguire himself admitted recently that there have been positive talks with the club over a new deal and if he can keep this level of performances up, it might be a shrewd decision considering his experience and leadership ability.

Under Erik ten Hag, the former club captain had lost his way and the Dutchman had tried to sell him to West Ham last summer only for the move to collapse at the last moment.

He had been stripped of the captaincy as well but Maguire has put his head down and worked hard and it seems fans will be seeing much more of the Englishman moving forward.

Amorim’s arrival has certainly saved his United career with the club likely to turn down any approach for their centre-back in January with multiple clubs eyeing the former Leicester star owing to his soon-to-be free agent status.

Man Utd: Neville makes Rashford transfer prediction in ’embarrassing’ claim as Carragher drops brutal Arsenal verdict

      man-utd:-neville-makes-rashford-transfer-prediction-in-’embarrassing’-claim-as-carragher-drops-brutal-arsenal-verdict

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has brutally shut down the prospect of Marcus Rashford leaving Manchester United for Premier League rivals Arsenal.

Rashford has announced he is “ready” to leave boyhood club Man Utd in 2025. He made this clear after being left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Manchester derby on Sunday.

It was hoped that this snub would give the 27-year-old a much-needed wakeup call as he has rightly been criticised for his poor performances and attitude over the past 18 months.

However, Rashford has gone the other way and has decided to pursue a fresh start. He said: “If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.

“When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”

The England international is already linked with several Premier League and European giants, with it claimed that he is ‘attracting a loan offer’ from one club before the winter transfer window opens.

Gary Neville has backed Rashford to “get a big club”, while Man Utd will want to avoid “an embarrassment”.

“I think he’ll (Rashford) get a big club because there is a pedigree there…” Neville said on The Rest is Football.

“I don’t think United will want an embarrassment on their hands – they’ll probably want him abroad.”

Carragher meanwhile has responded to reports linking Rashford with European giants.

“I think it’s time for him to move on but I’ve seen things in the papers about Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG,” Carragher said.

“It’s Marcus Rashford… am I missing something? He can’t get in the Manchester United team, he’s not even in the England squad.”

After Neville asked Carragher whether Rashford would improve Arsenal. The Liverpool legend responded: “Rashford? No!

“Oh my god, he had a four-month spell under Erik ten Hag when United were on fire.

“He’s been a very good player for United and a very good Premier League player, but he’s not [Mohamed] Salah, [Sadio] Mane or [Bukayo] Saka.”

Ian Wright added: “I think he’s got that capability [to play for Arsenal].”

But Carragher was having none of it. He added: ‘”He hasn’t! Look, go and sign him… honestly. He’s not even in the England squad.”

“You hear things…”: Former United coach says disciplinary action is coming for Marcus Rashford

        “you-hear-things…”:-former-united-coach-says-disciplinary-action-is-coming-for-marcus-rashford

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is likely to face more disciplinary action from the club.

The United attacker was left out of the squad last weekend when Ruben Amorim judged his training levels to be below par.

Since then, he has given an interview where he has stated that he feels he is ready for a new challenge, throwing massive doubt on his future at the club.

Amorim has stated in his pre-match press conference that United are a better team with Rashford in it and has hinted that he wants the Englishman to stay.

However, reports also state that United accept that now could well be the best time to cash in on their controversial winger.

It has been reported that the Englishman has once again been left out of the travelling squad to London before tonight’s Carabao Cup match versus Tottenham Hotspur and things could go from bad to worse for the academy product.

Football Insider report that former United scout, Mick Brown, believes that more disciplinary action could be just around the corner for Rashford.

“This has happened on far too many occasions now. Questions have been raised [over] his commitment to the club and his performances as a result.”

Brown believes that Rashford’s status at the club as a local boy and fan favourite has protected him with other managers but that everybody’s patience has worn thin.

“You hear things in the news about him going out clubbing and trips to Ireland or America or wherever, and you have to ask whether it’s affecting his training.”

“Amorim is in the best position to deal with it, because he’s only just come to the club and he owes him no loyalties so if that stuff is true, it will be addressed.”

The former scout applauded Amorim’s decision to leave him out of the derby and claimed he must “stick to his guns because it’s a brave call to make.”

Brown asserted that the ball is now “in Rashford’s court” and he will be the one to determine how it plays out.

Man Utd hero slams ‘lacklustre’ displays under Amorim as two stars given pass for ‘appalling’ Red Devils

          man-utd-hero-slams-‘lacklustre’-displays-under-amorim-as-two-stars-given-pass-for-‘appalling’-red-devils

Manchester United have been “lacklustre” under Ruben Amorim and the new head coach only has two players he can rely upon in a squad that requires a huge overhaul, according to Dwight Yorke.

United are currently 13th in the Premier League having lost six and drawn four of their 16 top flight games to date, with Amorim replacing Erik ten Hag last month as the Dutch boss failed to stop the club’s slide into mediocrity.

Amorim has won four, drawn one and lost two of his seven games across all competitions, with his zenith arriving on Sunday courtesy of a late comeback in the Manchester derby.

In a game severely lacking in quality, Amad Diallo produced a moment of magic to secure all three points for Amorim’s side, having won the penalty for Bruno Fernandes to convert moments before.

But Yorke claims that while the result was positive he doesn’t expect the win to be the moment where things turn around for United under Amorim, as they were “appalling” for the vast majority of the game.

Yorke told Sports Lens: “Let’s have it right, the City win was one good result. We needed a little pick-me-up, and we got one, but will it provide the ignition to Ruben’s rocket? I don’t think so.

“United’s decline has not happened overnight, this has happened over a long period, and a big part of it is the players who have been there. The players haven’t been good enough for several seasons now.

“They haven’t been delivering. It’s not like Amorim can get rid of them all. He can’t bring in an entire new squad, but maybe that is what United need to turn it around.

“The City win brings joy to a few faces on the day and probably for a couple after, but, again, the United performance was appalling until Nunes gave us a route back into the game with the penalty.

“We’re sitting in thirteenth in the league, there’s nothing there to smile about. We’ve come up with one good result in the league, so that’s something to cheer about, but overall, we know it hasn’t been anywhere near good enough for a club like Manchester United.

“We’re not convincing anyone. In the City game, we didn’t have a shot on target in the first half. If you’re a real football guy and you analyse United, you know we are so far off the pace, it’s untrue.

“A result against City does give you confidence, even though we know City are also in a bad place and going through their difficulties. United took advantage of that. The red side of Manchester will be buzzing, and the blue side will be suffering, but the shoe’s been on the other foot for a long period of time, so it’s nice for the United fans to enjoy that moment.

“Real United fans, the people behind the scenes, they know how far away United are from where they should be, and they know it will be a long road to get back to the top. I think most people would also say, if they were being honest, United pickpocketed City on Sunday too.”

Yorke insists the displays in general under Amorim have been “lacklustre” and believes youth is the answer for the Portuguese boss.

Yorke added: “I know that it’s early into Amorim’s tenure, but the early performances have been lacklustre. I don’t think you can blame the coach for that, he has to give everyone a try and see who he likes.

“I would have liked to have seen more of United’s young players given an opportunity because young players bring a different kind of energy to a team. United are lacking energy when you watch them play. They have no energy, they don’t seem to have pace going forward, they play one-dimensional kind of stuff.”

Asked which players Amorim can hang his hat on, Yorke replied: “I would think Amad would be one now. I think he will be the first one that stands out and the first name that Amorim can put on his team. He’s a player for the future and he’s a player to build around.

“Bruno Fernandes, he’s still one of the better players, even though he huffs and puffs. He does his thing, but you can’t ignore his quality. I think he can still give United something, but he’s just turned thirty, so you can’t build around him for the next five years.

“Amorim can’t hang his hat on Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund. I used to say that he could hang his hat on Rashford, but he can’t do that anymore. United are missing a brilliant central midfielder who can run a game for you and get you out of trouble when you’re under the kosh.

“I’m struggling to give you three names. There’s a lot of dead wood in that place; I have to be honest with you. I don’t think there are three players that he can build around, I can only give you Amad and Fernandes.”

Neville changes Premier League top four prediction with Arsenal ‘to hit form’ as ’15-year first’ revealed

            neville-changes-premier-league-top-four-prediction-with-arsenal-‘to-hit-form’-as-’15-year-first’-revealed

Gary Neville has changed his top four prediction for the Premier League this season but still believes Arsenal will win the title, predicting Mikel Arteta’s side will “hot form” over the busy Christmas period.

Liverpool are currently six points clear of Arsenal and four clear of second-placed Chelsea, and with a game in hand on their rivals, with Arne Slot enjoying an outstanding start to his Anfield career.

Enzo Maresca is doing a similarly excellent job in his debut season at Stamford Bridge, and the Blues could leapfrog the Reds with victory over Everton on Sunday, with Slot’s side facing Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium later that evening.

Arsenal struggled through captain Martin Odegaard’s absence and Arteta has come under pressure in recent weeks owing to their reliance on set pieces to score goals, with Manchester City’s demise under Pep Guardiola furthering the frustration of Gunners fans, who have watched Liverpool take proper advantage of the Citizens’ shocking form.

In August, Neville predicted that Arsenal would go on to end their 21-year wait for the Premier League title, while backing Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea to make up the rest of the top four – in that order.

But on the latest episode of The Overlap US’ It’s Called Soccer, Neville changed his prediction, taking his former side Manchester United – who currently sit 13th in the table – out of his top four.

“I’m going to go with Arsenal [to win the title] on the basis that I think they’ll hit their form,” Neville said.

“They’ve got a decent run of fixtures over Christmas, I think they’ll get within a couple of points, a few points, and I think they will hit their form in the new year and I do think they will win the league this season.

“Top four… I’ve not got full faith in Tottenham, Aston Villa and, to be fair, Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and all the other teams that are in and around it.

“I think it will be City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal at this moment in time. It’s the first time I haven’t said United will be in the top four, I think, in about 15 years!”

Neville then said he believes the current bottom three will be the teams to drop down to the Championship.

“Relegation… Southampton, definitely, I think Ipswich will go and I’m going to say Wolves,” Neville added.

“I watched Wolves against Liverpool and, to be fair, Liverpool weren’t great in the game at all but they didn’t have to be and Wolves were absolutely awful and I thought, ‘Oh no!’.

“So I think Wolves are probably gonna go, unless they can do something in the January transfer window.”

Jamie Carragher then gave his prediction, tipping his old team Liverpool to maintain their position.

“I’ll go for Liverpool [to finish as champions] and Chelsea second because they’ve got no Europe,” the former Liverpool defender explained.

“So I’ll go with Chelsea, I’ll go with Arsenal and I’ll go with Manchester City.”

Pushed for his prediction at the wrong end of the division, Carragher added: “I’m going to go with the three teams who came up [Southampton, Ipswich and Leicester].”

United handed major boost as cup rivals face defensive crisis hours before kick off

                united-handed-major-boost-as-cup-rivals-face-defensive-crisis-hours-before-kick-off

Tottenham Hotspur face a bit of an injury crisis before they take on Manchester United in the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.

With Liverpool, Newcastle United and Arsenal already having booked their place in the last four, United or Spurs will be looking to do the same.

United have not won at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since a 3-0 win in the dying embers of the Ole Gunnar Solskjaer days in October 2021.

Their case may be helped though as Spurs will field a far from full strength defence in the massive clash.

According to Manchester United’s official website, fullback “Destiny Udogie is hoping to prove his fitness, after the full-back was forced off during the convincing 5-0 win at Southampton in the Premier League.”

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou claimed that the defender doesn’t have an injury but he is “sore” and it will be touch-and-go if he will play this evening.

Midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur will also miss the game due to his suspension for comments he made about teammate Son Heung-min, after losing an appeal to cut short the ban.

The problems don’t stop there however as “Ben Davies, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven are all out, along with keeper Guglielmo Vicario.”

In total, that means five out of the back six that started at Old Trafford in September will be unable to play with only right back Pedro Porro being fit.

Van de Ven in particular will be a big miss as United struggled to live with his pace and strength in both an attacking and defensive sense last time out.

Forwards Mikey Moore, Wilson Odobert and Richarlson are also unavailable for the hosts.

United for their part will not have Luke Shaw or Mason Mount available for the match. Marcus Rashford has also been left out of the travelling squad after the continuing drama over his future. Noussair Mazraoui is also a doubt after picking up a knock at the weekend.

The match will kick off tonight at 8pm UK time at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London.

Amorim gives surprising response to United star’s angry reaction to being dropped

                  amorim-gives-surprising-response-to-united-star’s-angry-reaction-to-being-dropped

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has claimed that he is happy with Alejandro Garnacho being annoyed with him after being dropped for the Manchester derby last weekend.

Speaking in the second part of his pre-match press conference before the Carabao cup quarter final with Tottenham Hotspur he elaborated on the issue.

When asked about Garnacho’s reaction to being left out of the squad he said, “really good, he trained really well. He seems a little bit upset with me and that is perfect! I was really, really happy because I would do the same. He is ready for this game.”

It has been reported that the Argentine is part of the squad that has travelled to London. However, there still seems no place for Marcus Rashford who gave an interview stating that he wants a new challenge in his career.

Amorim had already suggested in the first half of the press conference that he wanted to keep Marcus Rashford at the club in spite of also leaving him out of the squad.

Adding more detail to the Rashford situation he said, “Marcus was sick in this first training, but he trained really well on the day of the game.”

“Nothing’s changed. We believe in Marcus. Marcus is a player of Manchester United so there’s no change.”

The Portuguese coach also commented on Mason Mount’s injury, who was also not part of the squad that will take on Spurs aiming to reach the semi-final of the league cup.

“He’s really sad. In the dressing room he was really, really sad so we need to help him.”

“When the player is in this moment with a lot of injuries and with this schedule and we have to maintain the load and we have to travel and with travelling you cannot train, it’s really hard for them.”

“We will try to find a better way to recover these kind of guys like Mount and Luke Shaw because after a few weeks and a few months they will be ready to cope with a lot of things.”

Finally, the head coach was pressed on what the club or he plan to do about the drama surrounding leaked teams news but Amorim insisted this is not as big problem as people are making it out to be.

He was asked what he will do and he retorted, “nothing and, nowadays, all the coaches know about [things] because I explain a lot of things about the team, the way we play. I want to play the positioning, etc.”

“But I say that because I understand that the coaches have that information, just from seeing, one time, Manchester United play. So I’m not worried, really worried about that. And I also cannot control that. So I will do the same things. I prepare the same for games because for me, it’s more important for my players to go to the game with a clear idea of what and how to do it, than try to hide something to protect the leaking of the starting XI.”

United star looking to exact revenge as Amorim’s army heads for Spurs

Manchester United take on Tottenham Hotspur this evening looking to advance to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup.

The Red Devils have played Spurs 202 times, winning 96 and losing 55.

Matches have ended in a draw on 51 occasions, but tonight’s game will be settled on penalties if it were to be all square after 90 minutes.

Here are three things to whet the appetite before the tie of the round.

                    Bruno Fernandes’ revenge

The Portuguese captain started the season poorly and when the two teams clashed at the end of September, disaster struck.

United had played badly and were 1-0 down at Old Trafford within the first five minutes and things went from bad to worse as Fernandes was sent off with a straight red card, just before half-time.

Fans were outraged though as the captain had slipped and clearly did not intend to make the contact he did. The red was eventually overturned after an appeal from the club.

Not that it helped the Reds on the day though, as they ended up being well-beaten 3-0 by Ange Postecoglou’s side, in what was one of the final nails in Erik ten Hag’s coffin.

Since, Fernandes has been in much better form and scored at the weekend in the crucial away day victory over Manchester City. He will certainly be gunning to get revenge against Spurs tonight.

Keep the League Cup goals flowing

United have been scoring a bit more frequently under Ruben Amorim, but they still only have 21 goals in 16 Premier League matches.

Whilst the league has been a struggle at times, United have so far found refuge in the cups.

In just two matches in the Carabao, the Red Devils have smashed Barnsley 7-0 and Leicester 5-2.

They have had 34 shots on goal and 22 have been on target according to the BBC.

While most fans would be delighted with any sort of victory tonight against strong opposition, it will be interesting to see if their goal revival can continue.

United looking to end rare bad run versus Spurs

Historically, United have always done well against Tottenham, especially in the Premier League era.

Between 2001 and 2012, the Red Devils did not lose a game to the North Londoners.

They also won four on the trot against tonight’s opposition in 2021 and 2022.

However, this has not been the case recently as they have not won in their last four games against The Lilywhites.

In fact, United have lost two out of the three matches they have played against Postecoglou since he was made Spurs manager and drew the other 2-2. Amorim will be hoping he has more luck against the Australian than Ten Hag ever had.

Marcus Rashford to Newcastle United ‘makes enormous sense’ but Arsenal touted too

                      marcus-rashford-to-newcastle-united-‘makes-enormous-sense’-but-arsenal-touted-too

Marcus Rashford is a one-in-three goalscorer and that would be an asset to many clubs, including Newcastle. The debate goes on.

We did suggest that people wrote in about the actual football but nobody did, so we can only print what we receive. Want to change the subject? Mail theeditor@football365.com

                      Rashford nerd alert
So a bit of stats chat to throw into the Rashford discourse: across his 10 Utd seasons so far, he’s played 426 games and scored 138 goals – 0.32 goals per game; or in old money, he scores once every 3 games. His England record is similar – a bit higher in that brilliant era pre-covid when we beat Spain and Croatia etc, a bit lower afterwards when Southgate decided attacking was gauche.

His Utd form seems to be easily split into two periods as well. In the 6 seasons from 2016 to 2021, his goals return goes up every year, more of his appearances become starts rather than subs, and just from the eyes you can see him becoming a better player. Over this period, his goals per game rate is 0.32; but it’s clear watching him that this a great player who has everything to be a modern striker, and at the age of 23 is about to hit his peak.

Then there are the last 4 seasons. 3 of his lowest scoring seasons are in this period, nearly all his appearances are starts, and the eye test has the likes of Roy Keane and eventually Gary Neville going bananas. But there’s also his best season yet in here, scoring 30 goals in 2022/23; which brings his goals per game over this 4-season period to a grand total of 0.32.

So how do we look at this properly? If you ignore the anomalous great season, then his goals per game since 2021 drops to a goal every 5 games. And we can all remember what happened in summer 2021 that might have prompted a drop in form; why the tabloids’ denunciation of trolls that followed seemed a bit tepid when it came to defending Enemy Of Tories Rashford. Not a surprise that Big Sir Jim is keen to boot him out the same exit that former shop steward Alex Ferguson took recently.

But 13% of Rashford’s Utd games came in 2022/23 so we shouldn’t ignore that because it doesn’t suit a narrative. And was it actually anomalous? In 2021/22 he made his fewest appearances in a full season, missed a big chunk of games with injury, and had Solskjaer’s sacking, Ronaldo and Rangnick to deal with, hardly an ideal environment. This season seems to be going badly if you listen to the noise, but he’s scored 7 in 24; basically back to a goal every 3 games. If anything, last season – Utd’s worst ever in the prem – was the anomaly.

So TLDR – put him into an average side and he’ll get you at least 12 league goals a season. Take him outside of a ridiculous soap opera, there is a very good forward here who can score much more regularly when he needs to. I wouldn’t take him at Villa as the Watkins/Duran/Rogers/Bailey mash is already a heady problem, but Rashford at Newcastle makes enormous sense to me.

                      Rashford for Arsenal, is it?
The consensus on these hallowed pages seems to be that Rashford (good egg he might be), is an overpaid, talentless, spineless busted flush who lacks a winning mentality.

Now. To me, that description can only mean there’s one realistic destination for Rashford next: which PL club is insane enough to overpay for a Big 6 reject who’s clearly beyond saving? 🤔🤔

Mind you a £70m air freshener might combat the stench of a £65m ashtray, eh? 😉
Stewie Griffin (And so the striker issue would still remain unaddressed!)

                      Rashford issue is his attitude
Tom, the LFC fan writing in the afternoon mailbox frames his comments as if United fans are outraged that Rashford, the ungrateful sod, wants to leave. Well, I don’t think United fans are. So far as there is a consensus on anything, I think the consensus on Rashford is that, yeah, it suits everyone if he moves on.

Let’s be clear though, giving that interview was a petulant PR stunt in reaction to being dropped, and a stupid one he didn’t need to make. It’s not like Mo Salah’s interview a few weeks ago where he hinted he was going which, possibly successfully, caused a bit of an outcry and has put pressure on Liverpool to up their financial offer to keep him. United probably want Rashford to leave and free up that £350k a week, most fans want him to go, he wants to go…. So what was he trying to achieve?

Was he trying to spark outrage at the club to pressure them to keep him? That didn’t work if so?

Was he trying to pressure the club into accepting a bid for him? If so, erm, from who? They’d be thrilled to sell him.

In honesty, I expect Rashford to be at United in February. Hell, I reckon he’s pretty likely to be at United in September – who else would be mad enough to pay him what he’s on?

As for the nonsense about it being United’s fault that Rashford hasn’t kicked on… rubbish. As funny as people find United’s current league position, while they haven’t been challenging for league titles, they’ve been quite competitive for most of that time. There have been plenty of United players who have been first choice picks for England and other national teams. This is in a side that, until Amorim’s arrival, was generally set up to get the best out of his skill set and he still hasn’t cracked on.

The issue with Rashford is an awful attitude. I don’t doubt that he gets a hard time in the press, but how many other top level players get disciplined as often as he does for things like that Ireland trip?
                      Andy (MUFC)

…So a few rival fans piping up that Rashford’s terrible form has nothing to do with him, but rather the omnishambles that is Manchester United. As cathartic as that must have been, not sure reality backs up your bitterness.

There have been two seasons, in his nine, that have shown there could be a world-class player in there. For sure, some of the goals are wonderful, and important, and against big opposition. But. If you actually go watch them, especially his second good season, a good half are break-area or counter-attacking goals. He became an absolute weapon because of a combination of top-level pace and great ball-striking.

But under various managers now he’s shown no ability to be part of a more possession-based team. His pressing is consistently woeful, his defensive positioning poor and his short passing is pretty diabolical given his pedigree.

For a decade now United fans have said he’s at his best when he doesn’t think too much on the pitch, with the hope it would improve with experience. It hasn’t. And as he’s lost his pace, he’s not adjusted at all, and doesn’t offer enough in a ‘modern’ setup. Couple that with his inability to keep his effort levels high and it simply isn’t going to work.

United fans have also been desperate for this to work. What could be better than an awesome bloke, raised at the club being the starting forward for years on end? Nothing. That’s the pinnacle of fandom.

But now you’ll struggle to find a single United fan desperate for him to stay. And it’s just sad, and I really hope it works out for him somewhere else, but honestly, as someone that has watched hours and hours of him over the last 3 years? I would be utterly, utterly shocked if he makes it at the top level again.
                      Ryan, Bermuda

Man Utd fans should be ashamed
I want to thank Tom LFC for his email about Rashford. Many Man Utd fans should feel ashamed at how they’ve treated Rashford over the years and that a Liverpool fan has come to his defence should be the cherry on top.

I’d love to see Rashford stay and do well. If he thinks he needs a change of scenery, all the best to him. He may not have done it consistently on the pitch, which is where he’ll ultimately be judged, but Marcus Rashford is a man that makes me proud he’s a Red.
                      Daniel, Cambridge

Dan from Worthing hit the nail on the head with Rashford.

Just imagine you break through with incredible talent, at your boyhood club. You are clearly one of the most talented players of your generation, and you want to bring back your club back to its former glories.

But the club is badly mismanaged. A string of managers come and go – and in that time you yourself are perpetually asked to keep changing for a new manager – there is no continuity in helping him develop his game well. Some good times happen with the odd trophy, but then there are seasons of absolute despair and rubbish on the field.

What would happen to your motivation? You desperately want to succeed, but the club just simply isn’t playing its part.

And to those who try make out he has had just one good season in his career, that’s rubbish. 2018/19 once Jose left he led the line very well. Then I remember the first half of the 2019/20 season and he was literally our only bright spark – Martial kept getting injured, Pogba missed half the season etc – and he carried the team. I will never forget his performance vs City in Autumn 2019 – he ripped them apart that game.

But we were so dependent on him he ended up with shoulder problems because Ole was playing him when needed rest. He then had surgery at end of 20/21 but look at his quotes – he said it took 7 months for him to feel confident again in it. This explains why he was so poor that season.

Then he did 22/23 and did really well.

But 23/24 came and we were crap….again!! After all that you start to lose belief that it’s ever going to happen. And last season was the FIRST bad season he has had with no mitigating circumstances.

100% he needs to show more on the pitch than he has the past 12 months, but all those criticising him like he is a lazy player – do you have even the slightest idea what it takes to even be a top-level footballer?

He has lost his mojo and no wonder. I have belief Amorim will find a way to get a tune out of him – especially if he can get the team playing better. And if not – then he deserves a fresh start – and I will wish him all the best and thank him for being with us. If he hadn’t, we would have been so much worse than we were – that’s a fact.
Nishul Saperia (this world needs more empathy, rather than angry fans who feel entitled to trash players without a second’s thought on the reality of the situation)

…Great to see the mailbox responding suitably to the sadly-widespread nonsense spouted by a large proportion of the United fanbase.

Yes, United has been a mess of managers and players for a long time. Each with a different vision, different tactics and styles. He’s played in multiple positions and, other than the now perennially injured Shaw, hasn’t had the play be built to get the best from his underappreciated talent. People blaming him for last season (reminder, we won the FA Cup), while the rest of the team behind him was injury ravaged and dysfunctional.

Let’s compare a couple of players. Salah and Henry had the same manager and the same position, with the same playstyle and role, for the 7 or more years. The teams were and are built to get the best from them. Of course they thrived. Same with Kane. Same with any major player in any successful team.

Right now, Rashford doesn’t have a natural position in the formation at all. Maybe as striker but Højlund is more natural there and while Rashford did very well filling in there before and this season, there are weaknesses to his game there. This means he has to change his game at age 27, from a role that he’s played for the majority of his career.

I truly hope he stays, I think he can work well as a 10 that drives forwards (since he can pass, unlike some), or as an alternative striker – Højlund can’t play every match. But if he goes, I will wish him well and I know he’ll rip up whatever league he joins. Because he’s a hugely talented player, who just needs to play his natural role with a team playing to his strengths.

Unless we should trust the views of a random rabble of toxic fans over the views of someone like Sir Alex.

Thoughts and prayers with Danny Ings at this difficult time.

After an unrivalled, 3 goals every 10 premier league games career stretching back some 10 years now. He is deemed surplus to requirements at whatever Godforsaken hell hole he’s landed at.
