United recall brilliant young keeper from season-long loan, could have huge implications – report

Manchester United have decided to cut short promising academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison’s loan spell with Chester FC and recalled him to Old Trafford.

He was sent on a season-long loan to the National League North to expose him to competitive first-team football and in the process, accelerate his development.

And the 18-year-old certainly impressed at the Deva Stadium, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 starts, impressing United staff with his mature displays.

The first-team is certainly going through a difficult spell in goal with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir committing high-profile errors in recent weeks.

    Elyh recalled

And there have been talks of Ruben Amorim not being pleased with his options at hand is looking to strengthen in that department with the Turk set to make way either in January or next summer.

Despite Harrison’s impressive loan, there are no plans of including him in the first team just yet with The Manchester Evening News revealing that the Red Devils are eyeing a loan higher up the EFL division.

“Manchester United have recalled young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison from his loan with Chester FC.

“The 18-year-old excelled and the decision has been taken to recall him, with a view to potentially organising another loan away at a higher level for the second half of 2024/25.”

    Another loan on the cards

Despite yet another loan exit being on the horizon, United coaches rate Harrison very highly and think he is good enough to break into the United first-team squad.

In fact, so highly-rated is the young goalie that he signed his first pro deal as soon as he turned 17, the earliest time when club’s can offer a young player pro terms.

“There are high hopes for Harrison in the academy and United believe they have a goalkeeper who has the potential to break into the first-team, which will eventually be his target,” The MEN further added.

He had joined the 20-time English league champions from Stevenage when he was only 16 and his performances last season for both the U18s and U21s saw him named Reserve Player of the Year.

Man Utd legend demands Rashford ‘apology’ if he ‘wants to play’ for Red Devils again

Man Utd legend demands Rashford ‘apology’ if he ‘wants to play’ for Red Devils again

Teddy Sheringham thinks Marcus Rashford owes Manchester United an apology after admitting in December that he wants a “new challenge”.

Rashford said last month that he would be open to leaving Man Utd after being left out of Ruben Amorim’s squad for the Premier League match against rivals Man City.

He told Henry Winter: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.

“When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

Rashford is being linked with a host of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan, though staying at Man Utd can not be ruled out given his huge wage demands.

If Rashford is to have a future at Old Trafford, he needs to apologise, according to former Red Devils striker Sheringham.

He said: “I think Ruben Amorim has dealt with Marcus Rashford exactly how he feels right. He’s the manager.

“If someone starts talking like that, obviously his mind is not firmly on the game and if it’s not firmly on the game, he’s not going to produce his best football.

“He’s given him a bit of time out and hopefully Rashford will understand that he’s done the wrong thing by saying those sorts of things to the press and apologises for what he’s done.

“Hopefully he gets his head straight and says that he wants to get back and play for United.”

The latest from Man Utd head coach Amorim on Rashford is that he was ill and could not feature against Liverpool on Sunday.

He was first omitted from a matchday squad for the Manchester derby on December 15 and did not return until the home match against Newcastle United 15 days later.

The England forward was an unused substitute against the Magpies and then missed the 2-2 draw at Anfield.

French champions Paris Saint-Germain could be the best option for Rashford, says former Chelsea and Celtic striker Chris Sutton.

“I think Marcus Rashford will leave in this January transfer window, but who’s going to take him?

“I can see him going to a club like Paris Saint-Germain. A change of environment would be a good option for Rashford, to escape the scrutiny and build his confidence back up. He clearly doesn’t feel loved at Manchester United.

“I’m glad he’s not looking to move over to Saudi Arabia because I think he can do that when he’s 35, he’s still got a big European club in him. He’s got to do the hard yards and prove himself again, it’s as simple as that.”

Star believed to be on brink of United exit “loves the club” and wants to stay in sensational U-turn – report

Despite being heavily linked with a January move away from Manchester United, a report claims that Joshua Zirkzee in fact “has no interest” in leaving.

The Dutch striker only arrived in the summer, but more column inches have been devoted to his potential departure rather than his on-pitch performances.

Since coming off the bench to score the winner on a dream debut against Fulham, the 23-year-old has struggled for form in United red.

He has featured in every matchday squad since his move from Bologna, but has only managed four goals and two assists in 28 games.

Reports of a move away have been gathering steam over the last few months, with a reunion with Thiago Motta , who managed him at Bologna, and is now in charge at Juventus on the cards.

Last week it was claimed that Juve could offer striker Dusan Vlahovic to United in exchange for Zirkzee, which may be tempting as a readymade option to bring more goalscoring potential into the squad.

Sky Sports report that Juve would prefer a loan deal for the player, but claim it is “unlikely” that United would consider a straight loan.

But where other reports have continued this line of thinking to conclude that the Red Devils want a permanent sale, Sky Sports note that actually the club would prefer to keep the player.

The report claims that Zirkzee’s camp “have received multiple approaches about a move” but “they have all been told he is not going anywhere.”

Juventus are joined by fellow Serie A heavyweights Napoli, Inter and Milan in their reported interest in the forward, and Sky Sports also note that “several Premier League clubs” have also made approaches.

Manager Ruben Amorim recently said, “I want to keep Josh because he gives everything. He’s trying in training but we don’t know, the window is open. We will see what happens.”

Most strikingly Sky Sports say that they understand “Zirkzee has no interest in leaving Manchester United as he loves the club and is determined to prove himself in the Premier League.”

This runs counter to the narrative that the Dutchman is unhappy at United and wants a move away, whether back to Italy or elsewhere.

Therefore this report is an outlier, with reliable claims elsewhere suggesting there is every chance Zirkzee will depart in January.

It does, however, come from a credible source and will give hope to fans who may hope to see the player given more of a chance to prove himself in the notoriously tough English top-flight.

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford reportedly turned down an approach from Turkish giants Galatasaray this week.

Rashford has fallen out of favour under Ruben Amorim, who recently left him out of four consecutive matchday squads for “training and selection reasons.”

Although Rashford was reinstated for the 2-0 loss to Newcastle last week, he remained an unused substitute. He was not available to Amorim for selection during Sunday’s blockbuster 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield due to illness.

United are believed to be prepared to listen to offers for Rashford, who admitted in an interview shortly before Christmas that he is keen on a new challenge away from Old Trafford.

Several potential destinations have been mentioned for Rashford including Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and the Saudi Pro League.

Galatasaray are also thought to be admirers of the England international. Last month, football agent George Gardi claimed that he will take Rashford to RAMS Park if the player is interested.

Now, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Galatasaray made a move for Rashford but the 27-year-old seemingly rejected them.

Romano wrote on X, “Movements around Marcus Rashford have started as expected.”

“Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have both asked for conditions of the deal.”

“More contacts are planned, meanwhile Galatasaray also approached Rashford this week but he’s prioritizing other options in top 5 leagues now.”

David Ornstein of The Athletic relayed that United are insisting any club interested in taking Rashford on loan must cover a significant portion of his £325,000-a-week wages.

United are back in action on Sunday when they face Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.

Man United: Fabrizio Romano reveals transfer exit plan for Marcus Rashford in January window

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has given Manchester United fans an update on the future of Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a move away in January.

Man United forward Rashford, 27, has struggled to find his spark across the past season and a half which has led to less game time. Despite that, he has netted seven goals and provided three assists across 24 games in all competitions this season.

Even with the arrival of Ruben Amorim, he has failed to reignite his career post-Erik ten Hag, starting just two league games since his arrival in November. That has seen transfer stories emerge linking him with an exit to one of Europe’s top five leagues.

According to Romano, Rashford is considering proposals to remain within the elite leagues of European football despite interest from Galatasaray. He took to X to confirm the latest news.

‘Movements around Marcus Rashford have started as expected,’ he wrote. ‘Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan have both asked for conditions of the deal.

‘More contacts are planned, meanwhile, Galatasaray also approached Rashford this week but he’s prioritising other options in top 5 leagues now.’

One issue for teams trying to sign him is his sizeable wages and a contract that runs until 2028.

While the player may want an exit from Man United, that could prove problematic for aspiring clubs unless he is happy to take a pay cut to leave.

This is something that The Athletic’s David Ornstein has echoed. He told NBC: “Ruben Amorim has wiped the slate clean for all players, and he’s judging them by the same standards on and off the pitch.

“He clearly feels Marcus Rashford’s training performance and maybe even his attitude are not up to scratch – and there has been scrutiny over his social life. That is something that Marcus Rashford’s camp strenuously deny.

“But what are the options? In January it’s going to be very difficult. He signed a massive contract in 2023 that goes on until 2028, and he earns in excess of £325,000 per week. Who is going to be prepared to take that on?

“I’m told that reports of offers being turned down from Saudi Arabia are not really accurate. Saudi have pushed back on that and said there are no offers.”

His fall-off has been well documented given he managed just eight goals in 43 games last season which resulted in him being omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad despite previously being a regular feature under Gareth Southgate before that.

After all, his 2022/23 campaign saw him produce a career-best display as he netted 30 goals and provided nine assists in 56 games.

Overall, his record stands at 138 goals and 63 assists in 426 games since being promoted from the academy but the local star may well exit within the next six months.

Man Utd flop ‘fits the bill’ for Saudi club as Ronaldo ‘keen’ on reunion with £60m man ‘open to transfer’

Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly ‘keen’ for Al Nassr to sign Casemiro from Manchester United in the winter transfer window.

Casemiro and Ronaldo won 12 trophies together at Real Madrid before the latter left for Juventus in 2018.

Ronaldo returned to Man Utd in 2021 and was joined by his ex-Los Blancos team-mate a year later.

The Portuguese superstar’s contract was terminated by the Red Devils in November 2022, meaning their reunion was short and not very sweet.

Ronaldo signed for Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr after the World Cup in Qatar and is reportedly interested in playing with Casemiro at a third club.

Casemiro has been linked with the Saudi Pro League countless times since the start of the 2023/24 campaign and a move could finally materialise this month.

According to The Telegraph, Al Nassr are ‘hopeful’ they can land the Man Utd midfielder in the January window and are ‘the most likely destination’ for the player.

Ronaldo is ‘keen on the deal’ and the signing of Casemiro would indicate that the 39-year-old ‘intends to extend his own Al Nassr contract’ amidst speculation over a return to Europe, the report adds.

Having said Al Nassr are struggling to “compete with teams like Al-Hilal and Al-Ittihad”, Ronaldo has hinted that he wants new signings brought in and ‘Casemiro would fit the bill’.

The former Real Madrid and FC Porto midfielder ‘is open to the Saudi move and was last summer’ but an agreement could not be reached with Man Utd.

The report adds that Al Nassr have already sold Seko Fofana but are keen on offloading Anderson Talisca to help sign Casemiro.

Casemiro is on Al-Nassr’s list of targets with the club, based in the capital Riyadh, having created space for a foreign signing by selling Ivorian international midfielder Seko Fofana to French club Rennes for €20 million. They are also in talks for Brazilian midfielder Anderson Talisca to move to Turkey and join Fenerbahce.

That would mean Al-Nassr no longer being at their maximum quota of eight foreign players over the age of 21 in their squad. The number is limited by the SPL with every club in the league going into the January window needing to sell, deregister or terminate contracts if they want to buy.

Al-Nassr’s rivals, Al-Ittihad, who are also one of the big four clubs owned by the Saudi Public Investment Fund, had wanted to sign Casemiro last summer but are unable to make a move for him during this window.

It remains to be seen what kind of fee United would demand for Casemiro who joined them in the summer of 2022 for £60 million in a deal that has turned out to be a costly error.

There is understood to be an acceptance that Casemiro may need to move to continue his career and that the SPL is an appealing option.

Casemiro’s first season at the club was fantastic as he helped them win the Carabao Cup and finish third in the Premier League.

He seemed to age 20 years between the end of 2022/23 and start of 2023/24, however, and is ‘unlikely’ to be one of Ruben Amorim’s starting midfielders moving forward. Amorim appears to prefer Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte in his midfield two.

Man Utd might be okay with selling Casemiro without receiving a fee with owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe very eager to offload his £350,000-a-week salary.

In terms of incomings, a new left-back is Amorim’s top priority. The report claims he wants to sign Paris Saint-Germain’s Nuno Mendes, who he managed at Sporting.

Video: “Nothing positive happening”: 11-time PL winner launches stunning tirade on United’s owners

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has lambasted the job Ineos have done at Old Trafford since taking over just one year ago.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his company Ineos own around 27% of the club and have taken on the responsibilities of running the football side from the Glazer family.

Initially, the new owners were popular and many praised their efforts to restructure the footballing side of things with Omar Berrada and Jason Wilcox being appointed.

Things have turned sour recently however, with results taking a steep nosedive in the league in 2024 and the team currently languishing in 13th place in the league.

Off-field decisions have also been heavily scrutinised as Ineos’ cost-cutting measures have been deemed cruel and highly unpopular by a large section of fans and the media.

Speaking on Sky Sports programme The Overlap, Paul Scholes echoed complaints about the new owners and struggled to think of anything positive they have achieved to date.

“There is nothing positive happening with that football club. The team look bang average. They’re not doing anything for fans.”

“They (Ineos Group) have been in charge (of Manchester United) for nearly a year now and everything is still negative. I can’t think of something positive that they’ve done for the football club.”

Scholes specifically took aim at the decision by the new owners to raise matchday ticket prices earlier in the season.

A survey has shown that 97% of fans feel that the decision to increase ticket prices will alienate future supporters but Ratcliffe has claimed years of mediocrity has resulted in the need to generate funds to fix the problems on the pitch.

Scholes gave his two cents on the matter by explaining, “£66 for a ticket is ridiculous. If you think of Manchester, there are so many deprived areas and Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself is from Failsworth, which is a deprived area.”

“If you take one kid with you, that’s £120, if you take a family, you’re looking at £300-400 – it’s not right.”

The Premier League legend also questioned how the owners had the gall to raise prices when the team was underperforming so badly on the pitch.

“For the value, we’re probably having our worst ever Premier League season and they’ve got the cheek to put the prices up.”

He finished by stating that just like the Glazers, Ratcliffe also doesn’t care about the football club or the supporters.

“Discussions are taking place”: Rival Euro club hatching plan to seal six-month loan deal for wantaway United star – Ornstein

Borussia Dortmund are among a number of top clubs in Europe weighing up a loan move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, reports the reliable David Ornstein.

Rashford is looking increasingly likely to be on his way out of United this month. His club future has dominated headlines over the past few weeks amidst a belief that United want to part ways with him.

Ruben Amorim doesn’t appear to view the England international as a key part of his plans, which places his future at Old Trafford in serious doubt. With United under pressure to offload players before making new signings, and given that Rashford is a product of the club’s academy – making any transfer fee count as ‘pure profit’ in financial terms – it seems increasingly likely that his chapter at the Theatre of Dreams could be drawing to a close.

In an interview shortly before Christmas, the player himself admitted that he is ready to leave United in search of a fresh adventure.

Rashford continues to be linked to several clubs including Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and Saudi Pro League outfits.

Ornstein has now given a slight update on Rashford’s transfer situation.

According to The Athletic journalist, “Borussia Dortmund are among a number of clubs considering a move to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United this month.”

“The Bundesliga team join the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Premier League suitors in weighing up an attempt at recruiting the 27-year-old England international on a deal until the summer.”

“No decisions have been made by any party as yet and it is plausible Rashford stays with United, despite their willingness to part ways and the forward saying he is “ready for a new challenge.”

“But external interest is building and discussions are taking place to establish the viability of a temporary switch away from Old Trafford.”

Ornstein rightly notes that Dortmund and United have done such a transaction in the past, most notably 12 months ago when Jadon Sancho spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign at Signal Iduna Park.

It’s understood that the Red Devils would want any suitor to cover a large part of Rashford’s hefty £325,000 per week wages.

United return to action on Sunday when they face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
