“Discussions are taking place”: Rival Euro club hatching plan to seal six-month loan deal for wantaway United star – Ornstein

Borussia Dortmund are among a number of top clubs in Europe weighing up a loan move for Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, reports the reliable David Ornstein.

Rashford is looking increasingly likely to be on his way out of United this month. His club future has dominated headlines over the past few weeks amidst a belief that United want to part ways with him.

Ruben Amorim doesn’t appear to view the England international as a key part of his plans, which places his future at Old Trafford in serious doubt. With United under pressure to offload players before making new signings, and given that Rashford is a product of the club’s academy – making any transfer fee count as ‘pure profit’ in financial terms – it seems increasingly likely that his chapter at the Theatre of Dreams could be drawing to a close.

In an interview shortly before Christmas, the player himself admitted that he is ready to leave United in search of a fresh adventure.

Rashford continues to be linked to several clubs including Napoli, Juventus, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund, Galatasaray and Saudi Pro League outfits.

Ornstein has now given a slight update on Rashford’s transfer situation.

According to The Athletic journalist, “Borussia Dortmund are among a number of clubs considering a move to sign Marcus Rashford on loan from Manchester United this month.”

“The Bundesliga team join the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Premier League suitors in weighing up an attempt at recruiting the 27-year-old England international on a deal until the summer.”

“No decisions have been made by any party as yet and it is plausible Rashford stays with United, despite their willingness to part ways and the forward saying he is “ready for a new challenge.”

“But external interest is building and discussions are taking place to establish the viability of a temporary switch away from Old Trafford.”

Ornstein rightly notes that Dortmund and United have done such a transaction in the past, most notably 12 months ago when Jadon Sancho spent the second half of the 2023/24 campaign at Signal Iduna Park.

It’s understood that the Red Devils would want any suitor to cover a large part of Rashford’s hefty £325,000 per week wages.

United return to action on Sunday when they face Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup.
