The mind-blowing wage increase United star is asking for to sign new deal amid interest from rival PL club – report

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo reportedly wants around £200,000-a-week to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford.

Mainoo signed a new contract last year which ties him to United until June 2027 but the player has been in talks with the club over fresh terms to extend his stay further.

The 19-year-old is also looking for terms that reflect his status as one of the team’s most important players and an established England international.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that negotiations between Mainoo’s camp and United are at a stalemate, drawing the attention of interested parties including Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Blues are thought to be in pole position to land Mainoo in case he parts ways with United this month or in the summer transfer window.

However, it’s understood that the Red Devils wish is to reach an agreement with their homegrown star, who is also keen to carry on under the stewardship of Ruben Amorim.

The Daily Mail have provided a slight update on the situation, indicating that Mainoo wants £200,000 per week.

According to the news outlet, “A year ago, the prospect of United letting their two academy stars [Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho] leave was unthinkable. Along with Rasmus Hojlund, they were seen as untouchable.”

“Now the situation is rather different with United desperately trying to generate income to comply with profit and sustainability rules. Under the regulations, homegrown players are worth 100 per cent profit on the balance sheet and worth roughly four times as much as other players.”

“Their hand may be forced over Mainoo if it becomes clear that he cannot agree terms over a new contract. The two sides are said to be far apart in negotiations with Mainoo wanting around £200,000-a-week and United trying to drive down their wage bill by offloading big earners like Rashford, Casemiro and Antony.”

    Mainoo is valued at £70million.

The Mail add that if United were given a choice, they’d prefer to sell Garnacho over Mainoo. Mainoo currently collects about £20,000 per week, excluding bonuses.

Man Utd legend Scholes destroys INEOS, Ratcliffe in angry 225-word rant: ‘Things are getting worse’

Man Utd legend Paul Scholes insists that “everything is still negative” around Old Trafford despite Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS’ arrival last year.

The Red Devils have been in terrible form this season with their 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday one of the highlights of their campaign.

Despite the impressive result in Merseyside, Ruben Amorim’s side are currently 13th in the Premier League table with the new Portuguese head coach winning just four of his first 12 matches in charge in all competitions.

As well as things not going to plan on the pitch, Ratcliffe and INEOS have far from impressed off the pitch with supporters already turning against the new investors.

Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe, who completed a deal to buy 27.7 per cent of the club in February last year, has sanctioned a cost-cutting programme as he’s looked to streamline the business model at Old Trafford.

The INEOS chief has been criticised for pushing through mass redundancies, hiking ticket prices, scrapping Christmas perks and taking away Sir Alex Ferguson’s global ambassador role.

And former Man Utd midfielder Scholes thinks ticket prices are “ridiculous” and the ex-England international is struggling to “think of something positive that they’ve done for the football club”.

Scholes said on The Overlap: “They have been in charge [of Manchester United] for nearly a year now and everything is still negative. I can’t think of something positive that they’ve done for the football club.

“Things are getting worse on the football pitch so couldn’t they have just said that they’d do cheaper tickets – couldn’t they just give us something positive. How can you ask Manchester United fans to pay more money with what’s on the football pitch.

“£66 for a ticket is ridiculous. If you think of Manchester, there are so many deprived areas and Sir Jim Ratcliffe himself is from Failsworth – which is a deprived area. If you take one kid with you, that’s £120, if you take a family, you’re looking at £300-400 – it’s not right.

“Where do these owners get the front to put ticket prices up? For the value – we’re probably having our worst ever Premier League season and they’ve got the cheek to put the prices up.”

And Scholes has questioned how Ratcliffe and INEOS can justify the hike in ticket prices, the Man Utd legend added: “There is nothing positive happening with that football club. The team look bang average. They’re not doing anything for fans.

“If we’ve got Sir Jim Ratcliffe, compared to all these American owners, who’s been a United fan since growing up in an area in Manchester – he’s still hiking prices up. It just shows that they don’t care.”

Greek giants Olympiacos have “asked for a loan deal” for Man Utd winger Antony with the Red Devils willing to let him leave, according to Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg.

The Red Devils have had an appalling season with Ruben Amorim’s side currently 13th in the Premier League table after their 2-2 draw at Liverpool on Sunday.

Amorim is finding it hard to turn around their inconsistent performances and results with the Portuguese head coach winning just four of his first 12 matches in charge of Man Utd.

Antony, who signed from Ajax for £85m in 2022, has played 356 minutes in all competitions this season over 12 appearances, three of which have been in the starting XI.

His time in the team has slightly improved since the arrival of Amorim as manager but it’s understood that the new Man Utd head coach is unlikely to stand in the way of his exit from Old Trafford.

And now Sky Germany reporter Plettenberg has revealed that Olympiacos are keen on doing a deal for Antony but a loan move would be “very complicated”.

Plettenberg wrote on X: “Olympiacos have asked for a loan deal with #Antony. After Sun and confirmed. Understand the deal is not fully off but very very complicated. #MUFC As reported, Antony can leave Manchester United this transfer window.”

Marcus Rashford could also be on his way out of Man Utd in the January transfer window with the England international admitting he is ready for a “new challenge” away from Old Trafford.

And now The Athletic‘s David Ornstein insists that German oufit Borussia Dortmund are ‘among a number of clubs considering a move’ for Rashford in the winter market.

        The report adds:

‘The Bundesliga team join the likes of AC Milan, Juventus and Premier League suitors in weighing up an attempt at recruiting the 27-year-old England international on a deal until the summer.

‘No decisions have been made by any party as yet and it is plausible Rashford stays with United, despite their willingness to part ways and the forward saying he is “ready for a new challenge”.

‘But external interest is building and discussions are taking place to establish the viability of a temporary switch away from Old Trafford.’

Ornstein continues by saying there would be ‘numerous factors to ponder on all sides’ to get a deal done with the journalist pointing to the current £325k-a-week salary that the Man Utd forward is on.

        He continues:

‘It is inevitable United would want as much of his wages covered as possible if the academy graduate is to depart — which may prove an obstacle — while Rashford’s focus will be to pick the best destination in order to get his career back on track.’

Brilliant United duo named in PL and European Teams of the Week after outstanding performances vs. Liverpool

Manchester United duo Lisandro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes have been included in WhoScored’s Premier League and European Teams of the Week following their outstanding performances in Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

United headed into the match on a run of four consecutive defeats across all competitions and the expectation was that Liverpool would obliterate them at Anfield.

However, Ruben Amorim’s men produced a valiant performance, earning themselves a hard-fought point on extremely hostile grounds. Martinez and Amad Diallo grabbed United’s goals.

United nearly won it right at the death when Harry Maguire was presented with a golden opportunity to find the back of the net but the defender aimed his effort over the crossbar.

There were several standout performers for United, although it’s Martinez and Fernandes who have been recognised by WhoScored.

In addition to his goal – a stupendous finish into the roof of the net – Martinez was solid defensively, helping Diogo Dalot to keep Mohamed Salah quiet.

Fernandes had one of his best performances in a United shirt. The skipper dominated the midfield and was almost unplayable. He drew praise from Liverpool boss Arne Slot.

Meanwhile, Amad was named in Troy Deeney’s Premier League Team of the Week.

On the rationale behind Amad’s selection, Deeney wrote, “The Anfield draw was a coming-of-age game for Diallo. Every now and then you have a game where everyone goes ‘there he is’ and to do it for Manchester United against Liverpool, who are flying high and everyone thought they’d win by six or seven, he was excellent.”

“The problem he’ll have now is that everyone will expect him to deliver those performances week on week.”

“At such a young age everyone will start to look at him as being the main man under this manager so he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders coming soon, but for now let’s just appreciate how well he’s doing.”

United are back in action on Sunday when they face Arsenal at the Emirates in the third round of the FA Cup.

Fabrizio Romano gives huge update on Antony’s planned move to shock club after “initial approach days ago”

Manchester United winger Antony is unlikely to seal a January loan switch to Greek side Olympiacos.

Antony has struggled to live up to his massive price tag since he joined United in the summer of 2022 from Ajax as Erik ten Hag’s marquee signing.

The Brazilian has managed just five goals in the Premier League during his time so far at Old Trafford. He fell out of favour under Ten Hag and has failed to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans since his appointment as head coach.

INEOS are understood to be eager to cut their losses and offload Antony as soon as this month.

A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Olympiacos are interested in temporarily signing the struggling 24-year-old.

However, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there is very little chance of Antony joining the reigning Europa Conference League champions before deadline day.

Romano wrote on X, “Antony’s move to Olympiacos not considered as a concrete/likely option at this stage of the market. Understand after initial approach days ago, talks have not progressed on both player and club sides.”

Romano also said on his YouTube channel, “My understanding is the deal is not advancing, the deal is not concrete, the deal is not something really likely to happen in the January window.”

“So Olympiacos, as well as many other clubs, including clubs from Spain, Italy are calling to understand the conditions of the Antony deal.”

“But Manchester United are not willing to pay the whole salary of the player first of all. That would make no sense, obviously, for Manchester United and also my understanding is that from the player’s side, Olympiacos is not considered a priority now.”

“Nothing really concrete or imminent for Antony and Olympiacos.”

This information was reiterated by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg who explained that while a deal is “not fully off”, it’s “very very complicated” to get over the line.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo if he were to leave Old Trafford.

Mainoo broke into the team last season under Erik ten Hag, quickly cementing his place in the side as a guaranteed starter. He played a crucial role in United’s FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, scoring in the final.

The Carrington academy graduate was also instrumental for England as they reached the Euro 2024 final, where they eventually lost to Spain.

This term, Mainoo has had a slight dip in form, partly due to an injury he suffered, but in the past two games against Newcastle and Liverpool, he gave everyone a timely reminder of just how good he is.

Amidst United’s dire financial position, it has been suggested that United could be convinced to sell Mainoo. As a homegrown player, Mainoo’s sale would be recorded as “pure profit”, significantly helping the club out of its current predicament. It’s for this same reason that United are believed to be open to offers for Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford.

Now, Chris Wheeler of The Daily Mail reveals that Chelsea are eyeing a swoop for Mainoo.

According to Wheeler, “Chelsea are leading the chase to sign Kobbie Mainoo in a sensational deal if the Manchester United midfielder leaves Old Trafford. United have reached a stalemate in contract talks with Mainoo’s representatives, alerting Europe’s top clubs to the fact he could be sold this month or at the end of the season.”

“United will hope that a compromise can still be reached and they can keep hold of their homegrown star.

“Mail Sport understands that Chelsea are in pole position to sign the 19-year-old if he cannot agree new terms at United, although there is bound to be competition from their Premier League rivals and big clubs abroad.”

Wheeler notes that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are trying to bring down United’s wage bill and this has “hampered negotiations” with Mainoo, who is fully aware he could command a better salary elsewhere.

Additionally, it’s understood that Mainoo retains reservations about the team’s direction and future prospects. He wants to be playing Champions League football regularly.

Sam Cohen, a relatively reliable source for United news, divulges that there have been some talks between Mainoo’s agent and Chelsea but nothing is advanced. Cohen also points out that the Red Mainoo’s wish is to stay at United despite links to Chelsea.

Cohen wrote on X, “There have been brief discussions between Kobbie Mainoo’s agent and Chelsea, but no significant progress has been made at this stage, I understand.”

“Meanwhile, Manchester United are actively working on securing a new contract for him. It’s clear to all involved that Kobbie would prefer to remain at Manchester United, and Ruben Amorim loves the player.”

“Told United’s main priority has been on a renewal for Amad, once done, it’s then expected United will advance forward for Kobbie’s renewal.”

Man Utd: Mainoo ‘truth’ reveals two Chelsea transfer reasons with fee, Amorim’s two ‘untouchable’ stars

According to reports, Chelsea are ‘leading the race’ to sign Manchester United starlet Kobbie Mainoo, who is available for a couple of reasons.

Mainoo was one of the breakout stars in the Premier League last season as he sparked for Man Utd before he impressed for England at Euro 2024.

The talented midfielder has struggled at the start of this season as he’s appeared to suffer from burn-out, but he was back to his best on Sunday as United earned a shock 2-2 draw against Liverpool.

Man Utd’s stark improvement against Liverpool was unexpected, but it provides a major boost for new head coach Ruben Amorim, who is expected to oversee a huge rebuild this month and in the summer.

Amorim’s is having to rebuild United with one arm tied behind his back as he has a tight budget and it’s been reported that he could be forced to sell before he can buy.

This has led to surprising reports linking academy product Mainoo with a move to Chelsea, who are reportedly ‘leading the race’ for his signature.

READ: Six Man Utd certainties under Amorim after Liverpool include three exits, key quartet, £45m transfer

Mainoo’s exit could seriously boost Man Utd’s budget as he would be a pure profit sale and a report from The Daily Mail reveals two reasons why he is no longer considered ‘untouchable’ at Old Trafford.

The England international is said to be in a similar situation to Garnacho as his potential valuation and faltering contract talks have opened the transfer door.

‘So the mark-up on Mainoo and Garnacho – two players still on relatively low wages but worth around £70million to buy – has rocketed to a level that is difficult for a hard-up club like United to ignore.

‘With another academy poster boy, Marcus Rashford, almost certain to leave in the January transfer window, United would prefer to keep hold of his two team-mates.’

‘Given a choice, they would rather sell Garnacho who is struggling to fit into Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and has been left on the bench for the last five games since being dropped for the derby.

‘But their hand may be forced over Mainoo if it becomes clear that he cannot agree terms over a new contract.

‘The two sides are said to be far apart in negotiations with Mainoo wanting around £200,000-a-week and United trying to drive down their wage bill by offloading big earners like Rashford, Casemiro and Antony.’

It is also noted that a transfer is ‘more likely’ in the summer than in January, while only two Man Utd players are considered ‘untouchable’.

‘With Chelsea leading a number of Europe’s top clubs in the chase for Mainoo, United might decide it is better to cash in on the 19-year-old England midfielder and sell him in January or, more likely, the summer.

‘It’s understood that the only untouchable players at Old Trafford now are £59m summer signing Leny Yoro and Amad Diallo, who is close to signing a new contract.

‘Even if United are able to hold onto both Mainoo and Garnacho, the fact that their futures at the club are even in question speaks for itself.’

United recall brilliant young keeper from season-long loan, could have huge implications – report

Manchester United have decided to cut short promising academy goalkeeper Elyh Harrison’s loan spell with Chester FC and recalled him to Old Trafford.

He was sent on a season-long loan to the National League North to expose him to competitive first-team football and in the process, accelerate his development.

And the 18-year-old certainly impressed at the Deva Stadium, keeping seven clean sheets in 18 starts, impressing United staff with his mature displays.

The first-team is certainly going through a difficult spell in goal with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir committing high-profile errors in recent weeks.

                  Elyh recalled

And there have been talks of Ruben Amorim not being pleased with his options at hand is looking to strengthen in that department with the Turk set to make way either in January or next summer.

Despite Harrison’s impressive loan, there are no plans of including him in the first team just yet with The Manchester Evening News revealing that the Red Devils are eyeing a loan higher up the EFL division.

“Manchester United have recalled young goalkeeper Elyh Harrison from his loan with Chester FC.

“The 18-year-old excelled and the decision has been taken to recall him, with a view to potentially organising another loan away at a higher level for the second half of 2024/25.”

                  Another loan on the cards

Despite yet another loan exit being on the horizon, United coaches rate Harrison very highly and think he is good enough to break into the United first-team squad.

In fact, so highly-rated is the young goalie that he signed his first pro deal as soon as he turned 17, the earliest time when club’s can offer a young player pro terms.

“There are high hopes for Harrison in the academy and United believe they have a goalkeeper who has the potential to break into the first-team, which will eventually be his target,” The MEN further added.

He had joined the 20-time English league champions from Stevenage when he was only 16 and his performances last season for both the U18s and U21s saw him named Reserve Player of the Year.

Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to sign Manchester United wonderkid Kobbie Mainoo should he leave amid stalling contract talks.

The 19-year-old burst onto the scene last season as the club’s latest academy graduate and his form earned him a surprise call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2024 after previously making his England debut.

Despite being one of the most hype youngsters in the Premier League, he is reportedly stalling over a new deal according to the Daily Mail’s Chris Wheeler.

As it stands, he currently has two-and-a-half years left on his current deal. He had struggled with an injury at the start of the season which resulted in a slower start but his performance against Liverpool at Anfield in the recent 2-2 draw was widely hailed alongside Manuel Ugarte.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein gave a worrying update on his future after the Liverpool game when speaking to NBC. “If a departure is going to happen [for Rashford], a sale in particular, maybe it’s more likely in the summer, but it would represent pure profit, something we hear about so much, because he was an academy graduate,” Ornstein explained when speaking on NBC on Sunday.

“In the same way that Kobbie Mainoo might be, he’s out of contract in 2027 – no news on a new deal.  Alejandro Garnacho too, I don’t think anybody in that bracket is off the table. Who is, is somebody like Leny Yoro, like Amad Diallo – I think they are untouchable.

“In terms of Amorim, Manchester United’s hierarchy, they fully support him; they back him to lead this transformation of the club.”

Chelsea have a rich backlog of options in their squad and have employed a transfer plan that has seen them acquire younger players with huge potential.

That has resulted in them having the youngest squad in the Premier League by nearly two years. The likes of Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia are all tied down on long-term deals and the project has a long-term focus which could interest Mainoo should these contract talks continue to stall.

While some may point to the fact that there are also the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Cesare Casadei and Carney Chukwuemeka in the squad, they have all been linked with an exit as early as the current January window.

The Blues also have Andrey Santos to arrive back at the club in the future after the Brazilian has produced a fantastic loan spell in Ligue 1 at Strasbourg as well as Renato Veiga who is capable of performing in midfield or defence.

Mainoo made his debut in the Carabao Cup back in January 2023 but didn’t make his full Premier League debut until November 2023 when he started in the 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park.

He then went on to feature 32 times under Erik ten Hag, scoring five times including an incredible solo effort to beat Wolves 4-3 as well as a sensational long-distance effort in the draw with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

That form caught the eye of Gareth Southgate who handed him his debut in March 2023 in a friendly against Brazil. He then started four games in the European Championships including every game from the Round of 16 to the final against Spain.

United players want 23-yo teammate to “not give up” despite ruthless treatment from Amorim – report

Manchester United players want Joshua Zirkzee to stay at the club and fight for his place under Ruben Amorim, as per reports.

The Dutchman has had a turbulent time under Ruben Amorim so far. Erik ten Hag’s signing from Bologna struggled to impress in his early days at Old Trafford and his situation has only worsened under the new gaffer.

The 23-year-old’s lowest moment at United came against Newcastle United in December. He was taken off by the Portuguese tactician in the 33rd minute and was jeered off by his own fans. The tactical decision was ruthless from the man in charge, to say the least.

After the 2-2- draw against Liverpool, wherein he received backlash for his terrible pass to Harry Maguire late in the game, it emerged that United are prepared to part ways with him.

The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming his relationship with Amorim is at an all-time low.

However, now it is being suggested things are much better for the young striker in the dressing room at United.

According to talkSPORT, Zirkzee’s teammates at the club are urging him to stay and “fight” for his future in Manchester.

It is understood the Netherlands international is a popular figure in the dressing room and he is being “urged not to give up” his United dream by his senior teammates.

Zirkzee’s form and Amorim’s recent decisions have intensified the suggestions of a January exit with Juventus reported to be keen on signing the player.

The Old Lady are led by Thiago Motta, who got the best out of him at Bologna before United agreed to spend more than £35 million to secure his services. He has just four goals to his name across all competitions for his new club.

However, the support of his teammates could go a long way in helping Zirkzee rediscover his confidence and impress the crowd at the Theatre of Dreams.

Earlier on Tuesday, we covered a report suggesting the player “loves” United and is determined to succeed in the Premier League.
