“The only possible threat”: Superstar’s contract demands could scupper potential blockbuster January deal for United – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim seems to have found his ideal midfield partnership in Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte with the duo a regular feature in the starting lineup in recent games.

Due to the Uruguayan’s suspension and the need to manage minutes in the young Englishman’s case, the Portuguese did call upon the experienced duo of Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the Premier League game against Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.

Safe to say that experiment did not work with the duo not managing to bring the intensity as demanded by the new boss with Amorim open to both leaving this January.

The Brazilian’s departure seemed just around the corner with The Peoples Person recently relaying that United legend Cristiano Ronaldo is keen to reunite with his former teammate and Al-Nassr are pulling out all the stops to make it happen.

    Al-Nassr favourites for Casemiro

However, while many might think the deal is all but done, CaughtOffside have a contrasting report to share. They have claimed that the 32-year-old’s wage and contract demands coupled with United’s asking price means there is still a threat a pending deal could yet collapse.

The former Real Madrid superstar is demanding a long-term contract and huge wages, and while paying the money to the defensive midfielder might not be too big of an issue, a long contract makes very little sense given the player’s age and ability.

Interestingly, the Red Devils are also asking for more than £15 million, a sum that Al-Nassr might not find easy to cough up given the huge wage demands of the player.

“With Seko Fofana heading to Rennes and Anderson Talisca possibly to Fenerbahce, Al-Nassr are believed to be prioritising Casemiro’s transfer.

Contract demands and United’s asking price a problem

“The only possible threat to a transfer concluding successfully are the demands from the Brazilian player and United themselves.

“It’s understood Casemiro still wants a decent salary as well as a long-term contract, despite his age, whilst the Red Devils want £15m+ to consider allowing the out of favour 32-year-old to finally move on.”

Interestingly, the report also mentions a new suitor in the race for the five-time Champions League winner — Al-Shabab. Their Turkish coach Fatih Terim is a big fan of the United star.

They could make a move for Casemiro should the Saudi Pro League club fail to strike a deal. Hopefully, INEOS can get this over the line and use the money to bring in reinforcements for Amorim this window.

Ten Hag’s former right hand man “verbally agrees” to make rapid return to English football – report

Former Manchester United assistant manager Rene Hake has reportedly verbally agreed to join West Bromwich Albion as manager.

The Dutchman has had previous managerial experience in the Netherlands, most recently at Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles.

Hake left his role at the Dutch club this summer though as he was offered the chance to become an assistant manager at United as part of a shakeup to Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff.

The 53 year old was only in a job for a matter of months though as Ten Hag was sacked in October after a poor start to the season and Ruben Amorim was announced as the new head coach.

The Portuguese cleared the decks and brought in the majority of his staff from Sporting Lisbon, meaning that Hake departed his role.

He was linked to a role at Leicester City with his former colleague Ruud van Nistelrooy but it never materialised.

Football Insider reports though that his break from English football will be a short one, however.

“West Brom have agreed a deal to appoint former Man United assistant head coach Rene Hake as their new manager,” sources informed the outlet.

“The 53-year-old has verbally accepted an offer to replace Carlos Corberan and contracts are now being drawn up.”

The job will surely be a tempting one as West Brom sit sixth in the Championship table and are well in contention for a playoff place to secure Premier League football at the end of the season.

Hake will also take over a team that is hard to beat as they have impressively only lost four out of their 26 league matches all season.

The Baggies will take on Stoke City on Saturday 18th of January in what could be the former United man’s first game in charge.

Man Utd offered Mainoo replacement with U-turn on Chelsea target’s transfer ‘stance’ mooted on one condition

According to reports, Manchester United have been ‘proposed’ a replacement for Kobbie Mainoo, whose ‘stance’ on a move elsewhere has been revealed.

It’s emerged that Man Utd are open to letting Mainoo leave as they look to raise funds for Ruben Amorim‘s huge rebuild at Old Trafford.

Mainoo had been considered to be among Man Utd’s untouchable stars after he enjoyed a remarkable breakout season in 2023/24 for his boyhood club and England.

Despite this, Mainoo is among the players they are willing to consider offers for as this pure profit sale would significantly boost Amorim’s budget heading into the summer.

It has also been noted that their preference would be to keep Mainoo, who is currently in negotiations to extend his contract beyond 2027.

Mainoo was ‘unhappy’ with United’s ‘initial’ offer, but Manchester Evening News reveals his ‘stance’ is he ‘wants’ to stay.

READ: Yoro clashes with Ronaldo but different Man Utd teammate gives Rashford dreadful ‘advice’

        The report explains:

‘United opened contract talks with Mainoo’s camp in March last year and negotiations were heading in the right direction before stalling, which has led to uncertainty over his future.

‘Mainoo has been linked with Chelsea and United must operate within profit and sustainability rules (PSR). The Manchester Evening News understands Mainoo wants to stay at Old Trafford, although that is set to require an improved contract offer from the club after discussions.

‘The midfielder has been focussed on his performances for United and England while contract talks have been ongoing and there was no rush last year due the performance-related bonuses in Mainoo’s current contract having been triggered, but still no resolution has been found.

‘Talks are set to continue between both parties and Mainoo’s camp believe he deserves better terms than the club have offered following his rise to prominence in the last 18 months.’

It would not be easy for Man Utd to replace Mainoo if he leaves. Former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is one potential option as The Daily Mail claims he has been offered to the Premier League giants. The report adds:

‘Nottingham Forest have enquired about a loan deal for Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz. The 26-year-old has also been proposed to Manchester United, City and Fulham with Juventus ideally looking to recoup the £21million they paid to Aston Villa in the summer.

‘United, meanwhile, would look for another midfielder as Casemiro is expected to join Al Nassr and Christian Eriksen may yet depart. Their priority is to add a striker with Randal Kolo Muani of Paris St Germain an option.’

United youth squads announced for exciting indoor tournaments in Germany

Manchester United u19s are returning to the Mercedes Benz Junior Cup and Rewe Junior Cup this weekend.

The two tournaments, which occur simultaneously, have been a part of United’s academy schedule for years now. United have become regular participants in both, having previously lifted both trophies.

With the tournaments on the same weekend and in Sindelfingen and Gottingen respectively, it means United have to split the squad to attend each.

Despite both being indoor football, there are different rules between the two tournaments, providing a variety of experience.

The Mercedes Benz Junior Cup is a 6-a-side tournament with 2×9 minute halves. Meanwhile, the Rewe Junior Cup is a 5-a-side tournament with just one 13 minute period of play.

Speaking about the challenge, Academy Director Nick Cox said “these competitions give us different stimuli. It’s small-sided, indoor games, so it’s about touch, close control and intensity. We’re also playing against German clubs like Bayern Munich who play in this format every week so it’s a proper challenge.”

The Mercedes-Benz Junior Cup kicks off on Saturday where United will meet Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach and Rangers in the group stage.

Marcus Rashford was a key figure at the tournament in 2015 when United won the tournament.

The Rewe Junior Cup starts on Friday night as the young reds take on Borussia Monchengladbach, 1. SC 1911 Heiligenstadt, Hamburger SV, JFV Eichsfeld, JFV West Gottingen and SV Rhume-Ode in the group stage.

The squad lists for the tournaments have been released but there is some overlap which means there will be last minute changes.

Mercedes Benz Junior Cup: Victor Musa, Zach Baumann, Jacob Devaney, Yuel Helafu*, Jayce Fitzgerald, Amir Ibragimov*, Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher, Godwill Kukonki, Samuel Lusale, Will Murdock, James Scanlon, Jayden Ngwashi

Rewe Junior Cup: Cameron Byrne-Hughes, Yuel Helafu*, Albert Mills, Dante Plunkett, Rafe McCormack, James Bailey, Jim Thwaites, Amir Ibragimov*, Jariyah Shah, Louie Bradbury

            *Named in both squads.

Adam Lawrences is expected to take charge of the Rewe Junior Cup squad, while Colin Little steps up to take charge at the Mercedes Benz Junior Cup with the assistance of Paul McShane.

With a Premier League 2 fixture tonight for the u21s as well, it means many of the older u19s have stayed in England, opening up a chance for a number of u16s to step up and gain some unique experience.

What Kobbie Mainoo must do to ensure his long-term future is at United – The Athletic

Manchester United fans started the month with the depressing realisation that the club could only buy if it was prepared to sell and this rule extended to almost everyone in the squad.

It has been reliably reported that even academy sensation Kobbie Mainoo was not safe from a potential sale should an attractive offer arrive.

In this context, Chelsea have been linked to a move for the player, in what will be of grave concern to United fans.

Mainoo was one of the few shining lights of last season from his majestic debut at Everton, to his wonder strikes against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Liverpool.

The 19 year old also capped off the season with a crucial goal in the FA Cup final victory over Manchester City.

Nonetheless, this season has not been plain sailing for the academy product as injury at the start of the season and growing pains with Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation have presented certain obstacles to his progress.

The Athletic have taken a deep dive into the player’s style of play and what he can offer the club moving forward.

Mason Mount’s injury hell and Casemiro and Christian Eriksen’s lack of dynamism have thrust Mainoo into the limelight as Manuel Ugarte’s main partner in the centre of Amorim’s midfield.

The 19 year old’s strengths lie in his technical ability and capacity to collect the ball from the defensive line and build up play accordingly, as he so often did last season under Erik ten Hag.

“The player Mainoo is right now is a technically secure ball carrier, capable of doing a little bit of everything. The player Mainoo might become will owe a debt to his physical development and what the team around him require.”

“Mainoo’s technical ability and tidiness when in possession make him a different sort of midfield threat compared with many in the league” and his sensible passing comes in very handy for a team that can still be guilty of the chaosball seen under Ten Hag.

Nonetheless, the truth about modern football is that tall, physical specimens are very much in fashion at the moment in the Premier League.

This is where Mainoo breaks the mould as whilst he is certainly not short or lacking in strength, they don’t characterise his style of play.

“Mainoo is an above-average defender when looking at Premier League midfielders but his defensive totals are good enough for a 19-year-old still at the beginning of his senior career.”

He is in the 77th percentile of dribblers tackled and 74th percentile of interceptions. Yet he is only in the 41st percentile for aerial duels won and has also struggled with ball recoveries, as he is in the 48th percentile.

Therefore, his statistics are good but nothing special in the physical side of the game and this has been a constant theme of the rare amount of criticism which he has faced in his short career to date.

Gary Neville claimed that he was more like a Manchester City player than United with his small frame and technical capacity but if he is to survive in an Amorim system, it is something he will need to improve upon.

Another potential issue previously mentioned is that Mainoo excels at collecting the ball off the defenders and threading balls through the lines but in Amorim’s system, which has three central defenders, it is not so necessary.

The Portuguese prefers his midfielders to be “robust duellers” out of possession, such as Manuel Ugarte, who completes an incredibly high amount of duels across the pitch in every match he plays in.

The big question then is “how can Mainoo thrive in the Premier League when he is unlikely to be the biggest, fastest, or strongest midfielder in most matches? Chances are he will instead look to become one of the smartest and most consistent.”

What is crucial is that United do not sell the academy gem and give him the time to adapt his game.

His rapid rise at club and international level show that he has the ability to face controversy and adapt himself to the big occasion.

Whilst he may never become the physical dueller that Amorim demands, he has too much talent and shown too much maturity to claim that he cannot get something closer to what the Portuguese coach demands.

Rashford transfer: Arsenal make shock £21m ‘phone call’ bid to beat Milan, Spurs to Man Utd star

Arsenal have made a shock ‘phone call’ to Manchester United over a move for Marcus Rashford in January, low-balling the Red Devils with a tempting offer.

Rashford wants out of Old Trafford having announced his desire for a “new challenge” last month, but options are thin on the ground thanks to his £300,000 per week wages and his lack of interest in a move to Saudi Arabia or Turkey.

Talks have reportedly been held with Juventus and Borussia Dortmund, while negotiations with Milan are supposedly more advanced.

A report on Thursday revealed that West Ham have also been asked to be ‘kept informed of Rashford’s situation’ after Graham Potter replaced Julen Lopetegui as manager ‘but know he is more likely to join a top European side’.

A sticking point for Milan could be their unwillingness to stump up more than half of Rashford’s £300,000-a-week wages, and that’s also sure to be a problem for Tottenham and their penny-pinching chairman Daniel Levy amid a report from the Daily Mail that they too are keen on the 27-year-old.

But it appears Arsenal may have found a way of coming to terms with Rashford’s lofty wages, by low-balling Manchester United in a shock ‘phone call’ to enquire over the forward.

Italian journalist Massimo Marianella, while discussing Milan’s ongoing attempt to sign Rashford, claims Arsenal made contact with the Red Devils on Friday.

He told Sky Sports (via Calciomercato): “It seems that Arsenal has made a phone call to Manchester United for Rashford. The club valued €25m.”

That offer of €25m (£21) falls well below United’s supposed £40m valuation for Rashford, but amid reports that other suitors are only interested in a loan move, with United likely needing to pay a significant portion of his wages, the Arsenal offer may well be tempting as they would reap the reward of a pure profit sale and have him off their wage bill.

It’s a move that makes sense for Arsenal too, assuming they can persuade him to sign on reduced terms – £300,000-a-week would make Rashford their highest earner, surpassing the £280,000-a-week they pay Kai Havertz.

Mikel Arteta is thought to want to bolster his forward options as they look to cope with the absence of Bukayo Saka.

Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard have failed to meet expectations for much of the season, Raheem Sterling’s loan move from Chelsea hasn’t worked out and while Gabriel Jesus’ form has improved dramatically in recent weeks, doubts remain as to whether they have the required quality in attack to chase down Liverpool in the Premier League.

Sporting ready to slash Gyokeres price, it’s fantastic news for United – report

Manchester United’s adaptation to life under Ruben Amorim has not been a smooth one thus far, with many of the current squad struggling to adapt to his methods.

The struggles have led to a string of poor results and left the new head coach under no illusions that he must add to his numbers with players who better suit his style of play.

One name that has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford is Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Amorim is a huge fan of the front man, whose electrifying form in Portugal has made him one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe.

The Swede’s rapid rise under the mentorship of Amorim at Sporting meant the pair developed a strong relationship during their time together and the new United head coach would no doubt love to bring him to Manchester.

However, with PSR constraints leaving United without a bottomless pit of funds, Amorim needs to be careful with how, and where, he splashes any cash he’s afforded in the next few windows.

Given the £83 million release clause slapped on the head of Gyokeres, it looked as though Amorim may have to cast his net further afield to solve his striking issues at the club.

However, as reported by the Manchester Evening News, United bosses have since been informed that the goal machine may be available on a cut-price deal due to a gentleman’s agreement in place between club and player.

Such agreement would allow the striker to leave Sporting for as little as between £58.6m and £62.8m which will represent a much more attractive figure to the cost-cutting new owners.

United will have to wait until the end of the season to make their move with a caveat of the agreement being Gyokeres sees out the current campaign with the Portuguese Champions.

Amorim would ideally like to add the striker this month but if this information is made concrete, the move will certainly be delayed to the summer.

Should the deal come to fruition, United will hope they are getting the answer to an issue up front that has plagued the team for many a season.

Despite the big fee and potential, Rasmus Hojlund doesn’t quite look ready to lead the line under Amorim and with Marcus Rashford’s future looking set to lie away from Old Trafford, United are starved of goal-scoring options.

Gyokeres has as bagged an incredible 74 goals in just 79 appearances in Portugal, averaging better than a goal per game this season and given his relationship with Amorim, INEOS would be negligent to not be exploring all the avenues possible to bring the big striker to Manchester this summer.

Ashworth’s axing put paid to former United academy man’s dream homecoming – report

                    Old Trafford stadium

Former Manchester United player Michael Appleton has been denied a dream return to Old Trafford as loans manager as a domino effect of Dan Ashworth’s sacking as sporting director.

New owners Ineos have been very proactive in reshaping the footballing structure at the club in the year they have been in charge.

Omar Berrada has come in as CEO and Jason Wilcox has been given the role of technical director.

Dan Ashworth was shockingly removed from his role as sporting director last December after only a matter of months in the job and this has led to Wilcox’s remit being expanded.

In addition, it has meant that Christopher Vivell is in talks with the club to make his recruitment director role permanent, as it is currently due to expire next month.

Another ramification of Ashworth’s sacking is that there will no longer be a role for former academy player Appleton.

The 49 year old had been seen attending youth games with Ashworth before his sacking and it had been slated that he was in line to take the position of loans manager at the club.

The Daily Mail report that this won’t be the case however as “Dan Ashworth’s shock sacking at Manchester United has had a knock-on effect with Michael Appleton no longer rejoining his old club as loans manager.”

“Ashworth had lined up Appleton to succeed Les Parry in the loans department, and possibly take on a coaching role.”

But the axing of the former Newcastle United employee has put paid to any chances of Appleton getting a reunion with the club where it all started.

The former Charlton Athletic manager will now continue his search for a role as a manager.

The 49 year old has a wealth of experience in the lower divisions as he has had previous jobs at Portsmouth, Blackpool, Blackburn and Lincoln.

“Firmly off the table”: United star’s dazzling performances sees him join list of untouchables – report

Summer recruit Manuel Ugarte is seen as one of the few Manchester United players who is indispensable to the club moving forward.

United fans started the year with the news that their financial situation is so dire that practically every player is for sale at the right price.

This is due to pressures to comply with PSR regulations and also the realisation that only selling players and removing certain salaries off the wage bill will allow the Red Devils to sign the players they desire to improve the team.

Surprisingly, it has been reliably reported that stars such as Bruno Fernandes and academy heroes Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho would be sold if an attractive offer came in.

Nonetheless, Leny Yoro has been described as “untouchable” and with Amad Diallo signing a new long term deal yesterday, it seems highly unlikely the club would listen to any offers for the Ivorian.

According to GIVEMESPORT, new signing Manuel Ugarte is another player who can be added to the miniscule list of players the club will not sell.

The website reports, “Ugarte, in particular, has been described by club sources as one of the Red Devils’ most impactful signings in years.”

“His presence in midfield has elevated the team’s performance, and the prospect of him leaving is firmly off the table.”

The Uruguayan endured a rough start to his Old Trafford career but since Ruben Amorim has come in as the manager, he has performed wonderfully and arguably been the best performer at the club.

He has put in dominant performances away to both Manchester City and Liverpool, winning countless duels and providing valuable energy in the middle of the park.

The Uruguay international is also only 23 years old meaning there is hopefully much further growth and improvement possible in his game.

Moreover, Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation is reliant upon energy bunnies in the middle of the park and Ugarte is currently the only senior midfielder who can adequately perform this role in the side.
