Today “will be a very important day”: star’s agent to tell United what club he wants to play for – report

Manchester United winger Marcus Rashford appears to be hurtling toward an Old Trafford exit as his agent and brother, Dwaine Maynard, is expected to meet with the club at some point today.

It appears as if AC Milan are set to secure Rashford’s signature.

“There is a lot of competition for the English player. The Red Devils would prefer to loan the English player and are also ready to pay a good part of his salary,” Gianluca DiMarzio reported.

“Wednesday, January 15 will be a very important day for the future of the 1997 class and for the Rossoneri, who could have a decisive feedback. Rashford’s brother-agent will meet Man United to communicate his decision: Milan expects it to be that of choosing the Rossoneri.”

Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival as United’s new manager, Rashford has clearly fallen down the pecking order.

The English attacker has not featured in a Premier League game since the 2-3 loss to Nottingham Forest, featuring on the bench once since then while being omitted from the squad altogether on four occasions.

Rashford’s downfall has been met with a flurry of transfer links, with Barcelona manager Hansi Flick reportedly looking to lure the 27 year old to Spain.

AS Monaco was another potential suitor who was linked with Rashford, however, they appear unlikely to close a deal if reports are to be believed.

Still, while the French club may have bowed out of the race, Milan appear to still be hot on Rashford’s heels. The club’s chief, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, confirmed the Italian giants’ interest in Rashford, admitting that he would like to speak with him.

Milan’s pursuit appeared to advance in their pursuit of Rashford on Monday, with Italian journalist Vito Angele claiming that significant progress had been made.

While Rashford certainly proved himself to be an asset to United at multiple points throughout his career, his departure may be for the best, not only because of Amorim’s lack of need for him but also his continued decline in form. Perhaps the sale could also help to fund United’s future transfer pursuits.

United to wrestle with two CL clubs for attacking target as “renewal is not going well” – report

Manchester United are one of three European giants who are chasing Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Ruben Amorim’s men have improved in the new year with a highly credible draw at Anfield and knocking Arsenal out of the FA Cup at the Emirates.

Nonetheless, with the likely departure of Marcus Rashford in this window and the team’s lack of goals, it is highly likely that an attacking option will be signed this month.

United have been credited with an interest in Randal Kolo Muani, but he is now off the table as he is set to complete a loan move to Juventus.

This could mean that another attacking target, Vlahovic, is even more likely to depart the Old Lady this January.

Fichajes report that “the Serbian striker’s renewal is not going well and there are teams wanting to get him out of Turin.”

His future in Italy “seems more uncertain that ever” and this has sparked the interest of United, Arsenal and Paris Saint- Germain.

Juventus want to lower his wages in a new deal but this has not been “well received” by the player’s entourage and given this situation, the Italians would be “open” to a January sale.

The Spanish outlet claims that “the Red Devils need a proven scorer, and Vlahovic fits the profile they are looking for.”

Arsenal are also said to see Vlahovic as an “opportunity” and are desperate for attacking reinforcements after the news of Gabriel Jesus’ serious injury.

PSG are also waiting to strike and could take advantage of recent negotiations between the two clubs over Kolo Muani.

With just over two weeks left of the window, United will certainly hope to get some sort of business done and a move for Vlahovic would certainly add an experienced goal poacher that they currently lack.

Man Utd: Marcus Rashford ‘deadline’ passes as ‘priority’ transfer ‘doubts’ emerge

Marcus Rashford has made Barcelona his ‘priority’ but the La Liga giants are yet to give the Manchester United forward the green light to join, according to reports.

Man Utd academy graduate Rashford is considering a move away from the club, with AC Milan and Barcelona among the clubs showing strong interest.

He has not played for his boyhood club since December 12, missing their last seven matches, after falling down the pecking order under new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Asked on Sunday if Rashford has played his last match for the Red Devils, Amorim said: “I don’t know. We will see.

“He is a player for Manchester United. He loves this club but I have to make choices. It is what it is.”

There is plenty of interest from abroad but it is Barcelona that Rashford is ‘prioritising’, according to Spanish outlet Sport.

The report says that Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick ‘expected a response’ from the club’s hierarchy for ‘a definitive answer regarding the signing’.

Rashford is expected to leave Man Utd on loan, not permanently, due to his huge wage demands, while the English club’s £50million asking price is not speeding up the process.

A loan benefits Barcelona as well and the Catalan club have identified the 27-year-old as ‘one of the main options to strengthen the squad in this winter market’.

Flick has ‘endorsed’ the signing of Rashford and Barca will continue to ‘follow his situation very closely’, even if the German boss is yet to receive an answer from his bosses.

It is claimed in the report that Flick ‘likes’ the England international and ‘tried’ to sign him when he was Bayern Munich manager.

Flick is a fan of Rashford’s ‘versatility’ but the club are not as convinced. The report adds:

From the club’s sporting area there is no unanimity around the figure of the Manchester United player, as there is a certain debate about whether he is the profile of striker that the team needs. In addition, the irregularity shown by Rashford throughout his career and some problems in his personal life also make the Barça entity doubtful, who are looking for a cash who can have an immediate return.

Rashford has been an unused substitute once since his last appearance over a month ago.

He most recently missed the penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.

Man Utd are next in action on Thursday evening when they host Southampton, which should be a routine victory.

Given all the transfer speculation, it is very unlikely that Rashford will feature against the Saints.

Man Utd transfer: Insider makes ‘big offer’ claim as Red Devils, Liverpool enter ‘race’ to sign PL star in January

Man Utd and Liverpool have entered the ‘race’ to sign Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes ahead of the January transfer deadline, according to an insider.

The Red Devils are looking to strengthen their options all over the pitch after a terrible first half of the Premier League season.

Man Utd are currently 13th in the Premier League table and have hardly improved under Ruben Amorim, although their last two performances against Liverpool and Arsenal were encouraging for supporters.

Amorim and the Man Utd hierarchy are now looking to reshape his squad over the next couple of transfer windows to fit the Portuguese head coach’s style of play, philosophy and formation.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have missed out on the signing of Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad with Arsenal on the verge of completing a deal ahead of next summer.

And now both clubs are looking at Wolves midfielder Gomes with former Man Utd and Blackburn Rovers chief scout Mick Brown – who is still well-connected in the Premier League – hearing that the Red Devils and Liverpool “have been keeping tabs” on the Brazilian.

Brown told Football Insider: “United and Liverpool have been keeping tabs on him.

“Both have had scouts at Wolves’ games so they’ll be well aware of what he can bring to the team.

“All the top clubs will be keeping an eye on sides towards the bottom of the league to see whether any of their players would be capable of the step up.

“We know Wolves have had these financial issues, so clubs will be looking to explore whether they can make a move and capitalise on that.

“But I think if he does leave Wolves it will take a big offer, because they don’t want to let him go, especially not in the middle of the season.”

Man Utd need to improve in other areas too and former defender Gary Pallister reckons Newcastle striker Alexander Isak would solve their problems.

Pallister told Betano: “Alexander Isak would immediately improve the Manchester United squad. They’re still looking for a player to get them goals, he looks the finished article and full of confidence. I’m not sure whether they will fork out £150 million which is what Newcastle want, but he’d be a great signing for any Premier League side.

“There’s noise out of Old Trafford that they’re looking at new strikers, Rasmus Hojlund has been at the club for a season and a half. Look, I love his attitude but it’s clear he’s learning on the job. The club needs goals right now – Joshua Zirkzee isn’t a striker for me, he’s more of a number ten.

“It’s a shame the club didn’t try and get the Harry Kane deal done when he was on the market. I’d say Isak will be out of the price range for the club, but maybe if something can be done using Marcus Rashford going the other way, I don’t know. The club just need a goalscorer.”

United’s dream wing back to decide future this week after reaching breaking point with current club – report

Manchester United’s chances of signing left back Alphonso Davies have been boosted once more as it appears that he is at an impasse with Bayern Munich over a new deal.

The Red Devils have been heavily linked to a new left back with Nuno Mendes, Milos Kerkez and former player Alvaro Fernandez Carreras all options that the club holds an interest in.

A few weeks ago, there was also a lot of talk about Alphonso Davies as he is set to become a free agent this summer.

It was reported that United had scheduled a meeting with his agent this month but then news broke that the club’s chances would be scuppered by the Bayern Munich defender’s wage demands.

There was a sensational twist in the story though as reports emerged that Davies had a change of heart and was close to agreeing a new deal with the Bavarian club, ruining any chances of United sealing a deal for the 24 year old.

Spanish newspaper AS state that these reports may have been premature however and that the chasing pack such as Man United and Real Madrid still stand a chance of landing the star.

“Alphonso Davies’ future is in a swerve. The Canadian continues to delay with Bayern in his attempt to renew his contract.”

“His continuation at the club does not seem certain, the latest offer launched from Munich does not satisfy the full-back’s demands, despite the fact that reports from Germany assured that it was practically done.”

The latest offer from Bayern would make him the second highest player in the squad but the “soap opera” over his future is set to continue as he is not content with how negotiations are unfolding.

Davies has still not responded to the latest offer and it is looking increasingly likely that he will not do so in a positive way for the Bundesliga leaders.

The left back is free to discuss his future with European clubs this month and in a huge update, “it is expected that at the end of the week he will be able to give a definitive answer to all interested clubs: either he renews or he leaves. The decision is about to be made.”

The Canadian would certainly add significant speed and attacking prowess down the left hand side and United, like numerous clubs, will be eagerly anticipating his imminent decision on his future.

Man Utd to offer ‘dream squad number’ as Arsenal and Chelsea have gaps

Man Utd to offer ‘dream squad number’ as Arsenal and Chelsea have gaps

January. For multiple reasons, the worst of all the months. Among its most depressing features, the transfer window. Which is definitely the worst of all the transfer windows. But the quest for content cannot be stopped no matter how low the tide may sink in rumour bay, and one way to pretend a transfer has a better chance of happening is to pretend that a professional footballer is going to base enormous life and career decisions in large part on what shirt number he might get to wear at a new club.

The availability of ‘dream shirt numbers’ can seemingly make or break a deal and even though that has never, ever happened we’re not going to let that stop us looking at some of those all-important dream numbers that currently sit unoccupied across the Premier League.

Real Madrid also currently have nobody in the no. 66 shirt. Just saying.

              Arsenal

              First XI available: 1, 10

              Other notables: 13, 14, 16, 21

Even now, several decades into the squad-number era, we still feel slightly unnerved by teams not having anyone at all in the No. 1 shirt. Doesn’t sit right. Makes us nervous. Just feels like you’re off to a bad start. The No. 10 shirt is a pretty coveted item pretty much anywhere but at Arsenal sits vacant since Emile Smith Rowe’s departure having enjoyed an eclectic list of previous occupants from the most correct sorts imaginable (Your Dennis Bergkamps, Your Mesut Ozils) all the way to William Gallas. A fine shirt for that new striker they so very obviously need, but at this particular club perhaps not the most desirable.

Understandably, recent arrivals at Arsenal have all been too overcome with respect to take on Runar Runarsson’s iconic number 13 shirt, while presumably similar thoughts about Eddie Nketiah and to a lesser extent Thierry Henry we suppose will explain 14’s ongoing unoccupied status. And 14 being free does absolutely open up your classic ‘dream squad number’ transfer stories regarding Alexander Isak, who wears that number at Newcastle and previously did so at Dortmund.

Meanwhile only a brave man with a remarkable head of hair is going to take on Rob Holding’s old 16 jersey.

              Aston Villa

              First XI available: 1

              Other notables: 13, 16

Seriously, where have all the No 1s gone? Same place as the game itself, we’ll wager. And never coming back. For shame. Especially true in this case because Emi Martinez has actually moved from number 1 to number 23 this season, which is the wrong way round surely. No denying, though, that of the many reasons for changing squad number that might be out there, ‘This is the number in which I won the World Cup’ ranks among the flexier contenders. Fair play.

Villa would appear, like Arsenal before them, to actually be missing two keepers given that 13 is also available in an otherwise pretty solid set of major numbers containing no egregious errors. You can quibble about Ollie Watkins as a number 11 if you must, but that’s about it really.

It’s now seven years since Jed Steer left a 13-shaped hole that simply cannot be filled at Villa, with Calum Chambers the last to don the 16.

              Bournemouth

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 14, 18, 25

Solid work from a solid club, with only three gaps in the first 25. They do things right on the south coast. Both 1 and 6 could technically be classed as available, mind, with Neto and Chris Mepham out on loan, but it’s a rare c***’s trick from a club to reassign an on-loan player’s number mid-season. The 14 became vacant when Alex Scott very correctly switched to 8.

              Brentford

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 17

Near flawless work, and something that surely more than makes up for an early FA Cup exit at the hands of Championship strugglers Plymouth. The number 17 is notable for two reasons here; one for being Ivan Toney’s old number and also for being the only unassigned number below 29.

Lucky really for the more click-hungry corners of our nation’s proud football media that Brentford aren’t worth bothering with. Trying to spin 29 as anyone’s dream squad number is a task surely beyond even Reach’s most skilled guffmonkeys.

              Brighton

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 12, 13

Simon Adingra pounced on the No. 11 with great alacrity after Billy Gilmour’s departure to ensure Brighton retain a full first XI house, while there surely can’t be many clubs who haven’t had a goalkeeper in either 12 or 13 since the 2017/18 season.

Pascal Gross’ lengthy convention-and-superstition-defying occupation of the 13 jersey a huge factor there, of course. We’ve often wondered why it’s historically been accepted that it’s far too risky to have an outfield player wearing 13 on his back but absolutely fine to have a nervous stand-in goalkeeper tempting fate so wantonly, given the relative scale of potential damage each might wreak.

Probably not really worth worrying about, though, is it? In the grand scheme?

              Chelsea

              First XI available: 9

              Other notables: 23

The literal and figurative absence of a number nine was a bit more on the nose last year before Nicolas Jackson completed his journey from figure of fun to adequate Barclays line-leader, and really the eye-catching thing here is how a squad that has experienced unprecedented levels of churn in recent years has ended up with a really quite strikingly organised and sane squad-number arrangement.

If you want to be a complete overthinking pseud prick about it – and we always, always do – one could even make the case that Chelsea’s squad-number tricksiness, whereby Pedro Neto jumped instantly from 19 to 7 when Raheem Sterling left and Jadon Sancho then jumped into the 19 when he arrived and Joao Felix helped himself to Trevoh Chalabah’s 14 while it was still warm, is a microcosm of the way Chelsea’s chaotically assembled squad has performed surprisingly cohesively on the field.

The absence of a 23 is unusual given its place in squad-number lore across sports thanks to its Michael Jordan associations, but is explained here by Conor Gallagher’s late summer move to Atletico Madrid.

In suitably Chelsea fashion, then, they’ve managed to end up with only two prominent numbers unused, but both of them Hollywood show-pony numbers easily parlayed into ‘dream squad number’ antics. More good news here with the discovery that Marc Guehi’s old 44 is currently unoccupied. A subtle transfer hint if ever we saw one, that.

READ: Chelsea agree stunning £68.2m deals and Tottenham sort £12m defender transfer for future

              Crystal Palace

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 13, 21, 23, 24, 25

Maxence Lacroix sliding into Joachim Andersen’s number five (which he’d literally just that moment himself acquired from James Tomkins) and Eddie Nketiah doing likewise with Jordan Ayew’s number nine is precisely the kind of seamless squad-number game we’ve suddenly just now decided is enormously important to us.

Neat and tidy work there from the Eagles, but they lose points for a baffling and cavernous run of abandoned shirts in the early 20s. Even 22 is technically available with Odsonne Edouard out on loan.

              Everton

              First XI available: 3

              Other notables: 13, 20, 24

The Toffees are currently in their third season without a number three, a shirt that had a brief spell in Nathan Patterson’s possession after 13 years with Leighton Baines. Mason Holgate isn’t currently doing much with his No. 4 shirt either, on loan as he is at West Brom where funnily enough he wears 3. Not that funny is it?

Everton yet another club with nobody brave enough to take on the 13, which may have less to do with superstition in this particular case and more to do with Neal Maupay, who was also the last occupant of the number 20.

Twenty-four might not seem the most auspicious empty jersey, but it’s had some notable occupants at Everton down the years, from Duncan Ferguson on his return to the club in 2000 to Anthony Gordon via David Ginola and Tim Howard among others.

              Fulham

              First XI available: 4

              Other notables: 13, 14, 22

No replacement yet for Tosin Adarabioyo, while the departures of stalwarts Tim Ream and Bobby De Cordova-Reid ended their lengthy associations with 13 and 14 at the Cottage. Alex Iwobi’s move to 17 has left 22 thus far unclaimed.

              Ipswich

              First XI available: 9

              Other notables: 17

Would Ipswich be safe from relegation already had Liam Delap made a beeline for the No. 9 shirt even before Freddie Ladapo’s long-obvious departure was confirmed? Not for us to say, but the answer is definitely yes.

Other than that, though, Ipswich are really solid apart from an odd blind spot around 17 which has been vacant since Keanan Bennetts’ loan spell in 2020/21.

              Leicester

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 12, 13, 15, 19

Philosophical questions about whether having Danny Ward as your No. 1 is better or worse than nobody at all aside, it’s solid enough stuff from the relegation-battling Foxes despite an above-average smattering of gaps in the teens.

              Liverpool

              First XI available: 6

              Other notables: 12, 13, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24

Despite minimal 1-11 nonsense – you could absolutely quibble about Wataru Endo as 3 and perform some light-hearted banter about Darwin Nunez as 9 but that’s about it – Liverpool are nevertheless a club that boasts the wildest set of squad numbers in the league. Odd, really, for a club where tradition and history are so prominent, but there really aren’t many clubs around that get quite as much use out of the numbers 38 (Gravenberch), 62 (Kelleher), 66 (Alexander-Arnold), 78 (Quansah) and 84 (Bradley) as Liverpool.

It’s only a surprise that there haven’t been articles pointing out that Alexander-Arnold’s dream squad number of 66 is available at Madrid. Or there have been and we’ve somehow managed to dodge them despite our fondness for hate-reading things specifically designed to grind our gears, which would be even worse.

Still the necessary upshot of so many key players in such big numbers means a load of gaps in more customary ones, including the number 23 that once sat on the back of bona fide Liverpool legends like Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and Xherdan Shaqiri as well as Didi Hamann’s old number 16, most recently if only infrequently seen on the back of Marko Grujic.

              Manchester City

              First XI available: 1, 7

              Other notables: 12, 13, 14, 15, 21, 22, 23

The hypothesis that having no No. 1 at all is bad juju is severely tested by the fact City haven’t had one since Claudio Bravo left in 2020 and have, in fairness, done all right during that time.

Still, though, approaching the second half of the season with potentially neither a 1 nor a 2 is surely pushing luck to dangerous degrees. Best keep Kyle Walker until the summer even if his legs no longer respond to instructions as they once did.

Joao Cancelo was never a number 7 but you’d think somebody else might have taken it on more recently, while that run of gaps immediately after the first XI is an unusual quirk.

It comes to a juddering halt at 16, which we’d argue is one of the more storied of seemingly humdrum numbers at a big club. It was Sergio Aguero’s number for his first four years at City, and has been Rodri’s since 2019. If that isn’t somehow enough to convince, it was also Vedran Corluka’s City squad number and here we rest our case.

There will never be another 23 at City, the number having been retired in tribute to Marc Vivien Foe.

              Manchester United

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 13, 19

Marcus Rashford’s impending departure is going to f*** it up, which is a shame because United currently have one of the most coherent and complete 1-11 line-ups around. Which unless our priorities are entirely askew here surely more than makes up for being marooned in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Fair enough, Mason Mount is a slightly uneasy bearer of the No. 7 shirt, but that’s only because it’s United and that number has such specific potency here. It’s also not exactly new for the current owner to be considered perhaps unworthy of its lineage given that since ot was surrendered by 2009 Cristiano Ronaldo it it’s also been on the back of Michael Owen, Antonio Valencia, Angel Di Maria, Memphis Depay, Alexis Sanches and 2022 Cristiano Ronaldo.

United are also unusually solid beyond 11, too, with 13 and Raphael Varane’s old number 19 the only absences in the first 25.

So fans of ‘dream squad number’ content about Manchester United incomings really do need Rashford to make his move. They don’t even have 66 available to make a bold swoop for Trent Alexander-Arnold, thank you very much Habeeb Ogunneye.

              Newcastle United

              First XI available: 3

              Other notables: 15, 16

Quite rightly nobody has shown the requisite level of disrespect it would require to claim the 3 shirt so soon after it was vacated by Toon legend Paul Dummett, while Harvey Barnes’ summer shuffle from 15 to 11 closed off the only other remaining gap in the first XI.

With all due respect, Barnes feels like a better fit than Matt Ritchie, who had somehow kept an iron grip on the shirt for eight years.

Martin Dubravka’s imminent exit to Saudi semi-retirement will see Newcastle join the ranks of the one-less, but currently it’s a squad list with precious few conspicuous gaps.

              Nottingham Forest

              First XI available: 2, 3

              Other notables: 23

Forest’s whole season is a story of ‘Hey, it might seem an unlikely route to success but it’s working for them’ and so it is perhaps fitting that with Matt Turner on loan at Crystal Palace they cannot call upon numbers 1, 2 or 3 in their unlikely title push. We just thank the squad number gods that Murato leapt into Joe Worrall’s number 4 shirt because the idea of not having any of the first four numbers just didn’t bear thinking about.

Wayne Hennessey re-signing and reclaiming the 13 shirt leaves Forest with no other gaps after those first disorientating few until number 23. It’s a mad list that is definitely the weirdest thing about their season.

              Southampton

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 25

Southampton having a flawlessly filled squad from number 1 right up to 24 suggests quite strongly that it’s almost in a way the case that squad numbers don’t really matter or have any bearing on teams’ ability to perform on the pitch at all. But that can’t be right so we’ll just move swiftly on.

              Tottenham

              First XI available: 2, 4, 5, 11

              Other notables: 12, 25, 26

A messy and distinctly on-brand effort here from Spurs with five of the first 12 numbers unclaimed and several key players seemingly happy to retain higher numbers rather than move into some prime first XI real estate. Cristian Romero had already moved out of 4 to 17 for his own reasons, while Guglielmo Vicario did at least take on the No. 1 shirt eventually vacated by Hugo Lloris last season.

But there were still no takers for 4, 5 or 11 despite apparently suitable contenders in the likes of Micky van de Ven (37) or Rodrigo Bentancur (30) or Pape Matar Sarr (29).

We’ve mentioned 26 here because it is a number whose first Spurs occupant was Stuart Nethercott and last was Ledley King, which we enjoy.

              West Ham

              First XI available: 2, 6

              Other notables: 12, 13, 16, 22

We say available, but nobody is getting their hands on the West Ham No. 6 these days. It was last worn by Matthew Upson but was retired in 2008 in tribute to Bobby Moore.

We don’t think the Hammers have officially retired 16 in tribute to Mark Noble, but nobody outside sitcom Christmas specials has claimed it since his 15-year occupation of it ended in 2022.

              Wolves

              First XI available: None

              Other notables: 13, 16, 17

No first XI gaps, but there is the prospect of Wolves potentially having three official No. 10s in one season given Daniel Podence had it before joining Al-Shabab in September, at which point Matheus Cunha leapt in and could himself now be on the way.

Beyond that little possible quirk, it’s the fairly common absence of a keeper at 13 as well as a couple of other options in the teens there that should do nicely if either Rodri or Kevin De Bruyne fancy a change of scenery.

United wonderkid’s FA Cup cameo forces Amorim rethink regarding January exit, “further opportunities” in store – report

Manchester United produced a stirring display on Sunday against Arsenal in their FA Cup third-round tie, eventually winning 5-3 on penalties despite playing over an hour with 10 men.

Alejandro Garnacho’s good work setup Bruno Fernandes to score a brilliant opener but after Diogo Dalot’s second yellow, things seemed to be falling apart.

The Gunners equalised soon after and when they won a dubious penalty, it seemed like the team would crack under the pressure. Altay Bayindir emerged an unlikely hero and soon after, Ruben Amorim was forced into alterations to keep the visitors in the game.

On came Toby Collyer for his first appearance under the new head coach and the academy graduate worked his socks off, averaging a defensive action every 6.5 minutes while he was not dribbled past once.

                Collyer’s impressive cameo

He ran forward to try and provide an outlet each time and his industrious display will have impressed the Portuguese tactician who seems set to lose Casemiro this January.

Tony Collyer averaged a defensive action every 6.5 minutes against Arsenal today and wasn’t dribbled past once.

The 21-year-old was expected to enjoy a breakthrough season when Erik ten Hag was boss with the former Brighton academy starlet making three appearances under the Dutchman.

But Ten Hag soon departed and unluckily for Collyer, he suffered an injury that coincided with Amorim’s arrival and he has had to bide his time for chances.

There have been murmurs of a loan exit with Championship clubs in the fray but as revealed by Manchester World, the academy star’s intense display against Arsenal has forced a U-turn from Amorim.

The head coach now wants to keep Collyer around till the end of the season, especially in case options dwindle, with more chances around the corner.

“Manchester United intend to keep Toby Collyer at the club for the remainder of the season after they had considered a potential loan exit for him this month.

                Collyer set to stay

“The 21-year-old has been subject of loan interest in the January transfer window but is set to remain a part of Ruben Amorim’s side after his impressive cameo appearance against Arsenal at the weekend.

“It was unclear where the former Brighton youngster would fit in under Ruben Amorim, though it is understood he has made a positive on the new head coach and is set to be given further opportunities in the coming weeks.

“His role could grow in importance if Christian Eriksen or Casemiro leaves the club this month, with both veterans expected to depart at Old Trafford this calendar year.”

Collyer has impressed coaches at Carrington with his freakish stats and Amorim loves intensity and the youngster seems to fit the bill. Now for him to keep his head down and work hard so as to be ready to grasp his next opportunity when it arrives.

Serie A midfielder prepared to snub two high-flying PL clubs to join United this month – report

Juventus star Douglas Luiz is reportedly willing to join Manchester United during the ongoing winter transfer window.

Luiz was brilliant for Aston Villa last season, notching an impressive 10 goals and as many assists across all competition as Unai Emery’s side secured Champions League qualification.

His exploits earned him a £42 million summer move to Juventus but he has so far struggled to establish himself in Thiago Motta’s squad.

The Brazilian endured a sluggish start to life at the club after returning from his vacation slightly behind in physicality and fitness levels. This forced Motta to relegate him to the bench for the first few games but he picked up an injury that ruled him out of action for several weeks.

Since he returned, Luiz has been unable to break into the team.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Luiz’s agent – who also represents Joshua Zirkzee – proposed an arrangement that would have seen the former Aston Villa man seal a switch to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal involving Zirkzee.

As interest in Luiz mounts from other Premier League clubs, TuttoMercatoWeb reveal that the 26-year-old will only leave Turin for two destinations – United and Manchester City.

It’s understood that Luiz’s agent is in Turin and there could be a meeting with Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli regarding the midfielder’s future.

At the moment, possible destinations like Nottingham Forest and Fulham do not particularly appeal to Luiz despite how well they’re doing in the top flight this term.

On Zirkzee signing for the Old Lady, TMW note, “The situation seems clear: Manchester United are not open to loaning him out, they already did so in the same market with Rashford and it seems unlikely that they will both leave.”

If Luiz were to join United, he would potentially come in as a replacement for fellow countryman Casemiro.

Casemiro continues to be strongly linked with an exit to the Saudi Pro League and if he does depart, United may sign someone on loan to ensure Ruben Amorim is not left short in terms of options in the middle of the park.

It has been another difficult year for Manchester United in the Premier League with the club currently languishing in 14th position after 20 games.

Their poor start saw Erik ten Hag lose his job and Ruben Amorim has found it difficult to right the wrongs of the previous regime.

The Dutchman’s tenure saw the club win two cups in as many seasons but his chaotic style of play ultimately led to his departure.

While he was heartbroken at first, he has since been spotted attending football games in his homeland and now, as per Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg, Ten Hag is in contention for the Borussia Dortmund head coach role.

EtH in line for Dortmund job

The German giants are ninth in the Bundesliga with Nuri Sahin under increasing pressure even though he retains the trust of the board as of now.

The report mentions that the 54-year-old former Ajax coach shares a great rapport with Dortmund advisor Matthias Sammer and he was even present to witness Dortmund lose 2-3 against Leverkusen on Friday.

🚨🆕 Erik ten Hag remains the shadow coach for Nuri Sahin. Dortmund’s head coach still enjoys the trust of the board despite the team being in 8th place in the Bundesliga.

“Erik ten Hag remains the shadow coach for Nuri Sahin. Dortmund’s head coach still enjoys the trust of the board despite the team being in 8th place in the Bundesliga.

“Ten Hag was at the stadium in Dortmund on Friday for their 2-3 defeat against Leverkusen, as per @berger_pj. The former MUFC manager shares a very good relationship with BVB advisor Matthias Sammer,” Plettenberg wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Nuri Sahin’s job on the line

Sky Germany have claimed Ten Hag has been to Signal Iduna park numerous times as a guest of the advisor but there has been no contact regarding the managerial position till date.

It might become an issue if a fourth-place finish becomes out of reach for Sahin. Currently, Dortmund are five points off the top four having played a game more.

“According to Sky information, Ten Hag was a frequent guest at Signal Iduna Park after his departure from Manchester United at the end of October 2024.

“Things will only become dangerous for the young coach if fourth place in the Bundesliga becomes a distant prospect.”

Ronaldo’s Serie A comments should give Garnacho cause for concern ahead of rumoured Napoli move

Ronaldo’s Serie A comments should give Garnacho cause for concern ahead of rumoured Napoli move

Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo has given Alejandro Garnacho food for thought ahead of his potential move to Napoli.

Reflecting on his time in Serie A Ronaldo, who scored 145 goals in 346 games for the Red Devils across two spells, branded it “the most difficult league for forwards.”

Garnacho was previously seen as one of the few untouchable members of Ruben Amorim’s squad, but has emerged as a potential money-spinner for a cash-strapped United.

Napoli are thought to be leading the charge for the young Argentine, with the Italian giants in sudden need of a replacement for wantaway winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Speaking in 2019, a year after his arrival at Juventus from Real Madrid, Ronaldo explained the culture shock to BeIN Sports, and his words could serve as a warning to Garnacho should he too make the switch.

As per The Express, the Portuguese called Serie A “a difficult league – the most difficult one for all forwards.

“It’s the most difficult league for me, it’s full of quality players. I didn’t expect this much quality in the Italian league, they’re very good.”

Never one to struggle to find the back of the yet, Ronaldo cautioned that “it’s harder to score in the Italian league than in the Spanish league. The Spanish league is more open, the teams risk more. Here, not so much.”

Garnacho has bagged eight goals in 30 appearances for United this season, and over the course of his time in the first team has managed 23 in 116.

Ronaldo’s comments may therefore concern a winger for whom goals are a big part of his game.

The Portuguese added that in Italy “the team’s priority is to defend first, and then to attack. That’s not true for Spain. Spanish games are more open.

“The English league, where I played for five years, is the same. It’s harder to score in the Italian league, in my opinion.”

Rumours of Garnacho’s departure are gathering pace amid reports that Napoli offered £38m for the player.

This is said to have fallen short of United’s £60m valuation, but it does seem that INEOS are keen to cash in on an academy player who would represent pure profit.
