Serie A midfielder prepared to snub two high-flying PL clubs to join United this month – report

Juventus star Douglas Luiz is reportedly willing to join Manchester United during the ongoing winter transfer window.

Luiz was brilliant for Aston Villa last season, notching an impressive 10 goals and as many assists across all competition as Unai Emery’s side secured Champions League qualification.

His exploits earned him a £42 million summer move to Juventus but he has so far struggled to establish himself in Thiago Motta’s squad.

The Brazilian endured a sluggish start to life at the club after returning from his vacation slightly behind in physicality and fitness levels. This forced Motta to relegate him to the bench for the first few games but he picked up an injury that ruled him out of action for several weeks.

Since he returned, Luiz has been unable to break into the team.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Luiz’s agent – who also represents Joshua Zirkzee – proposed an arrangement that would have seen the former Aston Villa man seal a switch to Old Trafford as part of a swap deal involving Zirkzee.

As interest in Luiz mounts from other Premier League clubs, TuttoMercatoWeb reveal that the 26-year-old will only leave Turin for two destinations – United and Manchester City.

It’s understood that Luiz’s agent is in Turin and there could be a meeting with Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli regarding the midfielder’s future.

At the moment, possible destinations like Nottingham Forest and Fulham do not particularly appeal to Luiz despite how well they’re doing in the top flight this term.

On Zirkzee signing for the Old Lady, TMW note, “The situation seems clear: Manchester United are not open to loaning him out, they already did so in the same market with Rashford and it seems unlikely that they will both leave.”

If Luiz were to join United, he would potentially come in as a replacement for fellow countryman Casemiro.

Casemiro continues to be strongly linked with an exit to the Saudi Pro League and if he does depart, United may sign someone on loan to ensure Ruben Amorim is not left short in terms of options in the middle of the park.
