Tottenham ‘prepared to test’ Man Utd with £60m bid for Garnacho; ‘desperate’ Red Devils ‘open’ to deal

Tottenham are ‘prepared to test’ Man Utd by making a £60m bid for Alejandro Garnacho before the end of the January transfer window, according to reports.

There has been speculation that the Red Devils are riding close to the edge of the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR) and could be open to bids for some of their key players.

Man Utd academy trio Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford are among the players who are particularly valuable as they count as ‘pure profit’ towards PSR.

A report earlier on Wednesday insisted that their Premier League rivals are ‘ready to pounce’ for the Red Devils’ prized assets if Sir Jim Ratcliffe decides they need to sell in January.

Premier League clubs believe that Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe could be ‘more open to a deal in the remaining three weeks of the window opposed to waiting’ until the summer, ‘anticipating’ the INEOS founder looking to avoid a ‘frantic PSR sale’.

Reports have indicated that Napoli have made a €45m offer for Man Utd academy product Garnacho, with those reports dismissed as ‘agent-driven’ by sources at Old Trafford, while the Red Devils apparently told the Serie A side they want €80m to sell in the winter market.

But now Football Transfers claim that Tottenham ‘have set their sights on’ Garnacho and ‘have lodged a concrete enquiry about the 20-year-old Argentine’s availability’.

    The report adds:

‘Sources close to the club have revealed that the North London outfit may be prepared to test United’s resolve with a bid in the region of €70 million (£60m), a figure believed to be enough to tempt the Red Devils into selling the dynamic forward.’

It is claimed that ‘such a windfall could provide United with much-needed funds to bolster other areas of the squad, which is in desperate need of reinforcement’.

Garnacho ‘fits the profile’ that Tottenham are looking for this window and ‘the door is open to a deal’ with Man Utd ‘ready to sell’ the Argentina international.

But former Man Utd defender Gary Pallister reckons Garnacho still has a future at Old Trafford if he improves his “end product”.

Pallister told Betano: “I don’t know what’s gone on behind the scenes with Alejandro Garnacho. I think the fans look at him as one of the positives of the past couple of years, there were questions about his attitude when he was younger.

“He’s a threat, he does need to be that bit better in terms of his end product, but he’s got time on his side. He’s a young kid, if he understands what it means to be a Man Utd player then he’ll have a future at the club.

“Ruben Amorim seems the type of manager to cast you adrift if you’re not giving everything for the club, but the ball is in Garnacho’s court.”

Marcus Rashford is expected to leave Manchester United in the January transfer window having fallen out of favour with new head coach Ruben Amorim.

It now looks like a case of where, not if, the forward will go, with a decision likely to be made in the next week or so.

As reported by Sky Sports, Rashford’s brother and agent Dwaine Maynard is speaking to multiple clubs across Europe with the view of securing a winter move for his client.

German outfit Borussia Dortmund were one of the clubs who registered an interest in the 27-year-old but now appear to be out of the race for his signature.

Sky say Dortmund have distanced themselves from the transfer as Rashford is not a player head coach Nuri Sahin wants at the club.

The outlet also mentioned that the cost of the deal, even if subsidised, would be well above their budget this month.

Despite Dortmund dropping out, Rashford still has plenty of options and will be confident of securing a move by the end of the window.

Serie A giants AC Milan are currently the red-hot favourites to acquire the forward, as recently relayed by The Peoples Person.

The Rossoneri are desperate to add Rashford to their ranks with former United star Zlatan Ibrahimovic playing a key role in negotiations.

Rashford’s form has dramatically dipped since his 30-goal-season in 2022/23 with his attitude and commitment called into question by Amorim.

The Englishman hasn’t featured for United since mid-December, missing the last seven fixtures as the team continues to adapt to the new coach’s methods.

United look to be finally settling into the new system after strong back-to-back away showings at Liverpool and Arsenal.

The team are back in Premier League action on Thursday as Southampton travel to Old Trafford in what is a must-win for Amorim’s side.

Amorim admits player’s superb performance vs Arsenal has given him a selection dilemma

Ruben Amorim says the pressure to win is a different one and that his Manchester United team need to deal with that pressure when approaching the next game .

Speaking at the pre-match press conference ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash with Southampton at Old Trafford, the head coach was asked if he was concerned about the game due to United’s lack of consistency. He replied:

“Yeah, I’m always concerned because we didn’t have, during these games, the consistency in performances, in results, so always worried. It’s my job to be worried but we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal, for example, that is the goal. Not more, not less, face that game.”

“When you have the pressure to win that is the pressure we want. Sometimes it’s hard. Against Arsenal and Liverpool, nobody was expecting us to beat those teams but now we have top be prepared for that pressure, we need that pressure as a team and face the game the right way.”

Amorim also said “This next game will teach me more about my players than the last two. There is no expectation in the last two games. Against Arsenal we waited for the opportunity. In the future we can’t play like that and I know that. Fans will expect more tomorrow. We have to deliver.”

Pressed on why it is different, he said:

“It’s different because the most difficult thing to train in one team is the way you build with the ball and in the final third the way we play, you create a situation, that is what a big team should do very well.

“We have, for a long time, a lack of goals and because we don’t spend a lot of time with the last third, we did against Nottingham [Forest] but we need to improve in that part of the game.”

The boss then quickly shut down a question about whether Marcus Rashford will be in tomorrow’s squad, saying “I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win tomorrow, I will choose the players that I think are best to win the game tomorrow. I am just focused on that.”

Asked about the pressure to win, he said:

“Of course, I feel the pressure of the club but in this moment I don’t feel that pressure because in the last years we didn’t win the league.

“If you follow this club in the past, if you don’t win the league one year you must win it the next year. We need to bring that pressure to us, I don’t feel that pressure to win and feel that pressure in the future, we need to win titles and games in this moment.”

Asked if Toby Collyer has given him a selection dilemma after his performance against Arsenal, he replied:

“A lot of players I had to think this week, Toby [Collyer] is training really well, he has a lot of pace, he likes to learn so he’s one more option for tomorrow.”

United brace for catastrophic January transfer window with three first-team stars all set to be sacrificed – report

Manchester United could end the January transfer window with Ruben Amorim’s squad in tatters as INEOS reportedly look to offload three major players as soon as possible.

According to TEAMtalk, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo could all be forced out of Old Trafford this month in a desperate bid to avoid breaching profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

Rashford’s exit will not come as a great surprise, with the forward only making one matchday squad since early December after expressing a desire to leave the club.

The player has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan, although Barcelona have entered the frame as a possible destination for the 27-year-old as well.

Departures of Garnacho or Mainoo would sting much more, and while fans have expressed concerns about moving academy players on, they are for the first time being confronted with the possibility of both wonderkids being moved on.

TEAMtalk cite The Telegraph when claiming that clubs are “ready to pounce” on January deals for all three players as they “anticipate Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanting to avoid frantic PSR sales on June 30 to stay within financial rules.”

The trio would represent pure profit should they be sold, as they came up through the academy so cost the club nothing.

It is thought that potential buyers “believe Man United are more open to a sale in the remaining three weeks of this month’s window as opposed to waiting until the end of the season – when a sale may be needed – as their negotiating position will reduce significantly.”

TEAMtalk also claimed that Chelsea hold “genuine interest” in Mainoo and that “negotiations over a contract extension for the midfielder are taking longer than anticipated.”

They note that the Blues could “cause some headaches for Man United with a big bid late in the window” but that Mainoo “would be the last player the club would want to sell this month, a view shared by manager Ruben Amorim.”

The report notes that Mainoo’s agents “have been informed of Chelsea’s desire to sign him”, but that the 19-year-old is “prioritising contract talks with Man United and isn’t actively looking to leave.”

Garnacho, meanwhile, looks to be nearer the Old Trafford exit with Napoli earmarking him as a replacement for the outgoing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

The Italian club are thought to have already had a bid for the player turned down, having failed to meet United’s valuation. TEAMtalk note that this was reported in Italy as around €50m, but in reality is north of €70m.

While Rashford is almost certainly set to depart, it seems unlikely that Garnacho and Mainoo will also leave in January and there is in fact every chance both will still be at the club come February 1.

Nevertheless, these reports are unsettling for United fans who see these youngsters as crucial to the project of building a young, hungry squad for the future as well as the present.

While Garnacho’s current role under Amorim is as an effective substitute, Mainoo has nailed down the centre-midfield role alongside Manuel Ugarte and would be a gigantic miss on the pitch as well as a symbolic loss off it.

Isak to Arsenal and Gyokeres to Man Utd as Darwin leaves Liverpool? Top 10 available strikers ranked

Arsenal and Newcastle United are among the clubs expected to sign a new No. 9 in the January transfer window.

Here are the 10 best strikers who could be on the move this month…

            10) Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
Marcus Rashford truly is the man of the moment and we could not ignore him considering he is the very definition of ‘available’.

You might argue that Rashford is not a striker and we will simply counter that he kind of is; he has predominantly played in wide positions in recent years but came through and made his name as a No. 9. He is similar to Kylian Mbappe in a positional sense if not much else.

Rashford is most certainly available this month and Manchester United are open to selling or loaning out their academy graduate. A permanent departure could earn them as much as £50million, which is an over-valuation, while his £325,000-a-week salary also makes it unlikely clubs will buy him. The wage alone means the Red Devils would probably accept half their asking price.

Had Arsenal not already signed an under-performing, over-paid English winger from a ‘Big Six’ rival in the final hours of the summer transfer window, they might have done the exact same with Rashford this month, though Mikel Arteta is addicted to rejects from Chelsea, not Manchester United.

A transfer abroad is much more likely and Rashford is not short of interest. Clubs in Italy, France, Spain and Germany appear to be keen and while the 27-year-old has been poor for 18 months, he is still a tempting project. We all know the player he can be and the numbers he is capable of producing. Either his 2022/23 season is selling us a dream or he actually has another year like that in his locker.

If football has taught us anything over the last decade, it’s that it is unfair to completely judge or write off a footballer based on a spell at Manchester United. From Angel Di Maria to Alexis Sanchez via Jadon Sancho and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, some world-class players have failed dramatically at Old Trafford and gone on to have success elsewhere. They have been a poisoned chalice for any manager brave enough to take on the job and a graveyard for far too many players. Hell, there has been two undoubted successful signings since Sir Alex Ferguson retired and United have spent well over a billion quid in that time.

It is a risk but if Rashford goes somewhere and starts enjoying his football again, it could quickly become a masterstroke of a signing.

            9) Darwin Nunez (Liverpool)
Confused? Don’t be. There have been reports linking Darwin Nunez with a Liverpool exit and the Reds have an interest in PSG-bound Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, which indicates Arne Slot is keen to strengthen, though a sale would be necessary. Enter Darwin.

At the age of 25, he is still regarded a raw player, which is far from ideal. He is more refined than the player that joined from Benfica in July 2022 but still very frustrating to watch. If neither Jurgen Klopp nor Arne Slot can unlock his potential, we really don’t know who can.

What Darwin lacks in football IQ, he most certainly makes up for in effort. I spoke to Jeremie Aliadiere in November and he said he would love the Liverpool striker at Arsenal. He shocked me but his reasoning was compelling enough.

“I know he is at Liverpool but I am a massive fan of Darwin Nunez. Absolutely mad fan of the guy because I love his work ethic, his runs, his determination and I wish we had a player like him at Arsenal. That type of player, keeps bothering defenders, making runs in behind, stretching the defence, even though it’s not for him, it’s for the team, the others get massive rewards from it.

“I know people will say he needs five chances to score sometimes, he is not the best finisher, I am not bothered about this. For me, the effort and the work rate and the drama that he causes is worth everything.”

Take it from him, not us. He is a former Premier League striker after all.

READ: Liverpool’s worst possible January transfer window: no signings, £145m sales, Arsenal sign key target

            8) Randal Kolo Muani (Paris Saint-Germain)
Moving away from our Premier League bubble…PSG forward Kolo Muani is another striker who has been put up for sale, but this one seems destined for Juventus.

PSG paid a huge £80m transfer fee for the French international a year after he joined Eintracht Frankfurt from FC Nantes for free and he has struggled to justify his price tag with only 11 goals and seven assists in 54 matches, having loged 43 goal involvements in 50 for the German club.

Kolo Muani’s market value has dramatically decreased since returning to France and – like Rashford – he could end up being loaned out instead of sold this month. Also like Rashford, Kolo Muani is someone capable of playing in any position across the front three, has an abundance of pace and is attracting interest from a similar clientele. Juventus reportedly like both players, as well as Joshua Zirkzee, who enjoyed great success under Thiago Motta at Bologna.

For what it’s worth, Zirkzee is probably the 11th best available striker this month.

            7) Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen)
Bayer Leverkusen’s Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has become something of a forgotten man after missing so much of last season through injury. He hit the ground running with 10 goals in his first 16 Bundesliga matches, including three braces in Leverkusen’s opening five league fixtures. An adductor injury ruled him out for over three months and injuries have hindered him again this campaign.

Similarly, everything was hunky-dory for Boniface and Leverkusen up until November, when he suffered a hamstring injury. He has missed 10 matches as a result and is not expected to return for another week or two. This will obviously be a big concern for interested clubs and a justifiable reason for transfer talk going quiet, as thus the reason he is only seventh on this list.

Boniface has 20 goals and 10 assists in only 33 Bundesliga appearances under Xabi Alonso and is evidently a fantastic No. 9. Injuries aside, there should be no doubt over Boniface’s ability to adapt to the Premier League. He excels with the ball at his feet, is quick, good in the air… basically everything you want in a striker.

Boniface might be the killer Chelsea need up front because Nico Jackson is awfully silly in front of goal.

            6) Jonathan David (Lille)
Has someone been more linked with the Premier League without coming close to joining a club in the 2020s? In a perpetually linked to the Premier League XI, Jonathan David is up front and captain, leading Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Adrien Rabiot and Julian Draxler into battle.

Just how David has not found himself in England yet is a mystery. He is so West Ham. The Canadian international was initially worth north of £50m when first linked with a move from Lille to Our League and that figure has consistently dropped to the stage where he is now available for around £10m having entered the final six months of his contract. Nobody took a punt last summer for £15m and now interested clubs would be as well waiting to sign him on a free at the end of 2024/25.

David is a fantastic, cheap option for so many Premier League teams this month. In today’s market, he will cost peanuts and his goal record speaks for itself. He has 82 in 163 in Ligue Un, seven in 14 in the Champions League and 31 in 59 appearances for Canada. Seriously, what is there not to like? He needs to find himself a new agent…

            5) Dusan Vlahovic (Juventus)
Arsenal are reportedly looking into signing Dusan Vlahovic on loan until the end of the season, three years after he rejected them in favour of Juventus. Vlahovic’s time in Turin has been fairly underwhelming considering the club paid £70m to sign him from Fiorentina, but 53 goals in 124 matches is hardly poor, is it? He scored 49 in 108 for Fiorentina, so the big Serb is pretty much scoring at the same rate which convinced Juve to pay big money for him.

Arsenal reportedly being snubbed by Vlahovic was damaging in their quest for Champions League qualification in 2021/22 but they are a completely different team now. You could not judge Vlahovic for choosing Juve over them then and you would be wrong to criticise him if he joins the north London giants this month.

It is obvious that Mikel Arteta needs to sign a new striker and he might do just that after Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury. In truth, it should not have taken a season-ending injury for Arteta to act in January. Vlahovic is out of contract in 18 months, which will make Juve very open to selling him this year, whether that be in January or at the end of the season, possibly as an option or obligation to buy after a loan.

            4) Omar Marmoush (Eintracht Frankfurt)
Omar Marmoush will not be on this list much longer, with a transfer to Manchester City just around the corner.

It does not come as a shock that Marmoush is destined for a big-money move to one of the Premier League’s big hitters. With a silly 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 matches this season, the Egyptian has been one of the best strikers in Europe and by far Frankfurt’s best and most important player.

Man City’s interest and his imminent transfer does all of the talking for us. When it happens, we shall update accordingly. If it falls through, another club should be all over him.

            3) Viktor Gyokeres (Sporting)
The top scorer of 2024 should realistically top this list yet here we are. The fact Viktor Gyokeres is banging them in for a Portuguese club scares us a little. It’s not quite Scotland but it’s not on the level of France or Germany. Spending big money on strikers from outside the top five leagues is always a risk but at least they are usually cheaper. But that is not the case with Gyokeres. The big Swede has an £84m release clause and is very unlikely to leave for less this month, though Sporting might be open to negotiation in the summer.

Gyokeres scored a ridiculous 52 goals for Sporting in 2024, which was 12 more than Robert Lewandowski, 13 more than Harry Kane, and 14 more than Erling Haaland.

That enough should convince teams to bite the bullet and Manchester United could be perfect for him now Ruben Amorim is the manager.

            2) Victor Osimhen (Napoli/Galatasaray)
Napoli let Victor Osimhen join Turkish giants Galatasaray last September after his summer did not go to plan. He is only on loan and allowed to join another team permanently this month, if anyone so desires.

Clubs seem very reluctant to sign Osimhen and we are not really sure why. Is there an attitude problem? There have been some very questionable things said in public by him and his agent, notably losing their cool at Napoli team-mate Kvaratskhelia and his agent over comments regarding a future Saudi Arabia move for the Nigerian.

Drama aside, he is a wonderful striker and rightly on the podium here. The 26-year-old was arguably the best striker in Europe when Napoli won Serie A in 2022/23, banging in 26 league goals in 32 matches. He was not as impressive the following season but still bagged 17 in 32 across all competitions and in 17 matches for Galatasaray this term, he has found the back of the net 13 times.

He is showing no signs of slowing down after failing to land a big transfer last summer and it is baffling that there is not more interest.

            1) Alexander Isak (Newcastle United)
Like it or not, we are including Alexander Isak. A reported £150m asking price is more than enough to consider him available. Just expensive and available.

He is bloody brilliant – the perfect striker. Newcastle fans are in love with the Swede and so they should be. With 13 goals in 18 Premier League matches this season, Isak has helped Eddie Howe’s side towards their best run of form for almost two years, when his goals helped his new team qualify for the Champions League for the first time in two decades.

Newcastle have put themselves in a strong position to qualify again this year and are adamant that their star striker is going nowhere. There is an asking price, though, which makes him unrealistic, not untouchable. There has been lots of talk about Newcastle needing one big sale to balance the books and if that does happen, it will be Isak or Bruno Guimaraes who leaves.

He makes Arsenal favourites for the Premier League title and a move anywhere else in England seems unlikely. There is a bit of needle between the two clubs so the Gunners’ offer would have to meet that colossal valuation. It is extremely unlikely Isak leaves Newcastle but never say never.

Diego Maradona could influence Garnacho’s decision to quit Man Utd for Napoli

Diego Maradona and his time at Napoli could influence Man Utd winger Alejandro Garnacho amid claims the Serie A club have made a bid.

There is speculation that the Red Devils could need to sell before they can buy this transfer window with the Man Utd board under pressure to help Ruben Amorim turn things around at Old Trafford.

Man Utd are currently 13th in the Premier League with Amorim unable to make huge strides over a busy December schedule but their last two performances against Liverpool and Arsenal delivered some encouragement to fans.

There have been rumours the Red Devils could have to move on some of their homegrown stars such as Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo, while Marcus Rashford has already outlined his desire to seek a “new challenge” away from Man Utd.

Speculation over the last few days has claimed that Napoli have made a €45m offer for Garnacho with Man Utd asking for €80m to allow him to leave in the January transfer window.

However, former Napoli and Argentina star Daniel Bertoni insists that the presence of Maradona – who passed away aged 60 in November 2020 –  in Naples could help convince Garnacho to leave Man Utd for the Serie A club.

Bertoni said on Radio Kiss Kiss: “Garnacho is not Maradona, let’s be clear.

“If you ask an Argentine about Naples he will always say yes, maybe the choice of the new destination will also be based on that.

“I hope Garnacho arrives and makes Napoli fans dream.
“Diego? He loved Naples, but his homeland was Argentina. You cannot say that if he had stayed in Naples he would still be alive today.”

‘United sources indicate that the speculation is agent-driven and the club are unlikely to entertain offers for Garnacho this month unless an exceptionally high bid comes in.

‘The futures of both Mainoo and Garnacho will be under discussion again in the summer when serious offers for both players are considered more likely.

‘United are not expected to entertain offers for Alejandro Garnacho this month.’

United make contact with Barca over sensational swoop for 28 year old UCL winner – report

Manchester United are reportedly still keeping tabs on FC Barcelona centre back Andreas Christensen.

Barcelona have reportedly opened the door to potential offers for defenders Andreas Christensen and Eric Garcia during the ongoing winter transfer window.

This shift comes as the Blaugrana manage an overcrowded defensive roster following their decision to reject Juventus’ interest in Ronald Araújo.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, the Red Devils are rumoured to have made contact regarding a possible move this month.

Barcelona’s financial struggles remain a key factor. Operating under the league’s 1-1 salary cap rule, the club must make strategic decisions to free up resources.

Selling either defender could create salary space for reinforcing other positions, particularly in attack.

Barça have reportedly explored options, including Man United’s Marcus Rashford, but securing such reinforcements would require savings of at least €6.5 million.

Christiansen would be a welcome addition to Rubem Amorim’s side.

United have been long admirers of the Danish centre back and would greatly benefit from his Premier League experience.

Having won the UEFA Champions League with Chelsea in the 2020/21 season under Thomas Tuchel, Christensen has demonstrated his ability to perform at the highest level.

His ability to read the game and initiate play from the back would enhance United’s defensive solidity and contribute to building attacks.

United, currently competing in the Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup, would benefit from Christensen’s addition, which would bring valuable depth and quality to their defensive unit.

A centre back is, however,  not seen as a priority position to address this window, with United looking at wingback options in the market.

It is to be seen if the club decides to advance in this deal, whether it is a loan or a permanent move.

“He won’t be happy”: Ferdinand suggests that huge United star is being pushed out of the club

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand believes that Casemiro is set to leave Man United.

The Brazilian had an impressive first season at Old Trafford but his influence has waned massively in the last two campaigns.

Despite a brief renaissance under interim coach Ruud van Nistelrooy, Casemiro’s role has significantly diminished under Ruben Amorim.

He has only been involved in two of United’s last eight games and has only one start, in the 0-2 home defeat to Newcastle United.

This has led to immense speculation that Casemiro will leave Old Trafford this January window with Saudi Arabian teams seen as a likely destination.

Latest reports seem to suggest that a move to the Middle East is not as advanced as first thought but Rio Ferdinand believes that the player will certainly be on his way soon.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Rio Ferdinand Presents, he gave his two cents on the current situation involving the former Real Madrid star.

“I don’t think Casemiro will be happy,” Rio said. “At any point in his career he’s never been on the bench.”

Ferdinand highlighted that the 32 year old is so far down the pecking order that even the inexperienced Toby Collyer is getting minutes ahead of him in crucial moments, like the FA Cup victory at the weekend.

“So if he’s on the bench now, if an offer came in, he’d listen to it, but also the club, you can see now they are bringing on Toby Collyer.”

The former United man claimed that his old side would certainly be happy to part ways if a decent offer came in and he asserted that would be something that wouldn’t be difficult to pull off.

There is no doubt that the Red Devils would love a significant offer to arrive for Casemiro this month as his likely transfer fee and shedding his massive salary off the wage bill would do wonders for the club’s PSR problems and ability to spend in this window.

Romano reveals Man Utd and Tottenham transfer heartbreak as loan is ‘confirmed’

Premier League duo Manchester United and Tottenham both look set to miss out on signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, according to the latest reports.

The French striker is said to be close to agreeing a loan move to Juventus after starting just two league games in Ligue 1 this season.

As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano on X, Muani has rejected interest from across Europe to join Thiago Motta’s Juventus side in a straight loan deal.

He wrote: ‘After Portuguese RB Alberto Costa last night, today will be Randal Kolo Muani’s day at Juventus.

‘Juventus and PSG set to check documents today then time to travel for French striker. Loan move, salary 100% covered by Juventus, no buy option clause.’

Muani joined PSG in 2023 for an initial fee of £64.2m (plus £12.2m in add-ons) after impressing for Eintracht Frankfurt. His final season in Germany saw him accumulate 23 goals and 17 assists in 46 games which made him a wanted man.

However, despite being a regular for France, he has failed to replicate that form for the Parisian side managing 11 goals and seven assists in 54 games.

Interestingly, he will join a team who are currently unbeaten in Serie A and they extended that run with a draw against Atalanta last night. However, they sit fifth in the table, some 13 points off leaders Inter Milan.

Across the past week, we saw reports that both English clubs were interested in a move. Tottenham were said to be close to agreeing personal terms but the two clubs hadn’t engaged in any discussions.

Ange Postecoglou’s side were hoping to strengthen their attacking areas despite already boasting Brennan Johnson, Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski, Heung-min Son Richarlison and Wilson Odobert to call upon.

In terms of United, it is said they were ‘doing everything’ to secure him but they were reportedly one of several clubs to register an interest that also included Chelsea, Aston Villa and AC Milan.

With Marcus Rashford seeking a move away during the January window, there could be space in the squad for an attacking addition to help bolster Ruben Amorim’s side after a recent turnaround in form.

European club hint at exciting developing partnership with United in the future

Manchester United have recently sent players to train at Ineos owned FC Lausanne-Sport in Switzerland, hinting at a developing partnership between the two clubs.

The Red Devils used to have a relationship with Belgian side Royal Antwerp in the late 1990s, where young players such as Danny Higginbotham and Ronnie Wallwork would go on loan to the club.

United have also recently sent players to train at Doncaster Rovers and the club’s strong relationship was evident when they decided to send highly talented youth player Ethan Ennis on loan to the Rovers until the end of the season.

Ineos do not only have Man United in their portfolio but they also own French side OGC Nice and Swiss team Lausanne.

This has sparked rumours that the Red Devils may take advantage of these close connections and it seems they are already doing so at the Swiss Super League team.

Speaking to Swiss newspaper Blick, Lausanne sporting director Stéphane Henchoz discussed Ineos and United’s role with the club.

Henchoz claimed that Ineos are still very committed to his side and stated that there has already been a partnership forming between United and the club behind the scenes.

The sporting director opened the door to United players coming to train with the squad in the future as he revealed that “three talented Red Devils players trained with us for a week, accompanied by a delegation from Manchester. They were positively surprised by our work”.

He claimed that while it was obviously a plus point for his team, “the English club can also benefit.”

“In any case, Lausanne can be an option for Manchester United players who still need to mature.”

Finding a trusted loan partner for United’s youngsters has been easier said than done over the years as there have been countless examples of players leaving but failing to grab sufficient playing time to make the loan worthwhile.

Perhaps over time, this is something Nice and Lausanne can help United with.
