“I’m thrilled”: Canadian full-back delighted after signing new three-year contract with United women

Manchester United Women’s team are continuing their productive January by tying down one their most promising young stars to a long-term contract.

As reported by the club’s official website, Jayde Riviere has put pen-to-paper on a new deal that will keep her at United until June 2028 with the option of another year.

The defender has made 32 appearances for United since joining the club in 2023, and she has been capped 47 times for Canada at the age of just 23.

Her impressive performances under the guidance of Marc Skinner have led to the full-back earning a deserved new contract that will see her continue her development in Manchester.

The Canadian is delighted with the agreement and spoke to the club upon the announcement.

“I feel the honour of being a Manchester United player every time I step on the pitch, so I’m thrilled that this journey is going to continue.

“Winning the FA Cup last season gave us all a taste of success and I’ll continue to give everything I have to achieve more moments like that for our fans,” she said.

United’s interim head of women’s football, Matt Johnson commented on the deal and said he is expecting big things from the young player.

“Jayde is a talented young player who is ambitious and determined with the potential to be world class.

“She has already achieved a lot at a relatively young age, but we know there is more to come, and we are delighted that she will continue her development at Manchester United,” he said.

This news comes after the signing of young Southampton goalkeeper Kayla Rendell, who joins Skinner’s side as they push for a strong second half of the campaign.

United are currently in a battle for Champions League places, sat in fourth place but just a point behind Manchester City in second with runaway league leaders Chelsea seven points clear at the top of the Super League table.

Man Utd rivals ‘ready to pounce’ for key Amorim trio as they ‘anticipate Ratcliffe sale’

Man Utd rivals ‘ready to pounce’ for key Amorim trio as they ‘anticipate Ratcliffe sale’

According to reports, Man Utd’s rivals believe Sir Jim Ratcliffe is ‘open to selling’ homegrown players Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford in January.

Man Utd are unable to spend big in the winter transfer window without selling one or two players and know the sale of an academy graduate would benefit them massively.

Homegrown players can be sold for ‘pure profit’, which helps clubs navigate the Premier League’s profit and sustainability guidelines.

It was confirmed on Tuesday that no Premier League club had been charged for breaking PSR rules in 2023/24 but the losses recorded at Old Trafford mean they will struggle to sign players without selling first and certainly not without Champions League football, which is now only achievable from winning the Europa League.

This difficult position has seen Mainoo linked with a shock move to Chelsea, while Napoli and Atletico Madrid are interested in Garnacho.

The Red Devils are reluctant to sell either player having deemed them ‘untouchable’ last March but know it could benefit them in the long run, if they invest the money wisely, which feels pretty unlikely. This Is Manchester United We’re Talking About, after all.

Rashford is another academy graduate who could leave this month. He has not played for the club since December 12 and Ratcliffe is eager to get his £325,000-a-week wages off the books, setting a £50million asking price for the England forward.

There is plenty of foreign interest in Rashford but no club has made a bid yet. Selling him would solve a lot of problems at Man Utd but his asking price and wage demands are proving to be huge stumbling blocks.

If the sale of the 27-year-old can not be agreed, Man Utd may turn to Mainoo or Garnacho, with the sale of the latter more likely.

According to a report from Telegraph Sport journalist Mike McGrath, rival clubs are ‘ready to pounce’ as Ratcliffe considers selling one of the Red Devils’ prized assets.

Premier League clubs believe Ratcliffe will be ‘more open to a deal in the remaining three weeks of the window opposed to waiting’ until the summer, ‘anticipating’ the billionaire looking to avoid a ‘frantic PSR sale’.

June 30 is the final day of the 2024/25 accounts and Ratcliffe does not want to be forced into a sale then. He would be in a much stronger position by negotiating an exit for Mainoo, Rashford and Garnacho now.

Ruben Amorim’s key trio are deemed ‘assets’ and the pure profit aspect makes them possible January sales, with ‘Chelsea said to be watching Mainoo’s situation’.

Mainoo’s uncertainty is furthered by the lack of movement on a contract extension. He is yet to sign a new deal since breaking into the England squad and feels he deserves a pay rise.

Garnacho, meanwhile, ‘is expected to be subject of offers from foreign clubs’, with Napoli keen after agreeing to sell Khvicha Kvaratskhelia to Paris Saint-Germain.

It is not said how much Man Utd would want for Mainoo and Garnacho, though it has been previously reported that Rashford is valued at £50m.

£60m bid being prepared by rivals for United star, Ineos will be tempted – report

With Manchester United languishing in 14th place, Ruben Amorim has asked INEOS for reinforcements this January but so far, no help has been forthcoming.

That is because the club is grappling with PSR concerns following years of abject Glazers ownership coupled with the exorbitant splurge on players last summer.

United are open to moving on high-earners like Casemiro and Antony but so far, no concrete approach has been made. Things are getting so desperate that the new co-owners are mulling over moving on academy graduates as they represent pure profit.

Marcus Rashford, who has already declared his intention to leave, is the favourite to depart but it is likely to be on loan for now with a permanent exit scheduled for next summer.

Garnacho’s future up in the air

That is why both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho, previously considered untouchable, are no longer in that bracket as they constitute the club’s most saleable assets.

The Argentine has mainly figured as a substitute under the new head coach since Amorim dropped him due to his lack of application both on and off the pitch.

With the Portuguese’s system involving the use of two No 10s alongside a striker, the left winger does not seem to have a natural role in the system with Amorim demanding a lot more hard work off the ball from his wide men.

The 20-year-old has shown he has the appetite for a fight with his impressive back-to-back displays against Liverpool and Arsenal with the Red Devils valuing him at €80 million.

There has been reported interest from Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but Napoli, who have recently lost Kvicha Kvaratshkhelia to PSG, seem to be heading the queue for the Argentine.

But they have been joined in the race by Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur who are said to be eyeing the Argentina international as a long-term successor to talismanic captain Son Heung-min.

According to Football Transfers, the North London club are ready to bid €70 million to land their intended target, a sum that could tempt the 20-time English league champions into selling.

          Spurs want Garnacho

“Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on Manchester United’s highly rated winger Alejandro Garnacho, with Football Transfers learning that Spurs have lodged a concrete enquiry about the 20-year-old Argentine’s availability.

“Sources close to the club have revealed that the North London outfit may be prepared to test United’s resolve with a bid in the region of €70 million (£60m), a figure believed to be enough to tempt the Red Devils into selling the dynamic forward.

“For Tottenham, the South American fits the profile of a long-term successor to their talismanic captain Son Heung-min.”

Strengthening a direct domestic rival, that too with an academy crown jewel is a bad look for INEOS and they must avoid this at all cost.

Garnacho has shown the fire in his belly to come good in Amorim’s system in recent weeks and the club should try and hold on their best players instead of searching for pure profit.

Man Utd transfers: Red Devils given transfer update on 32-goal star and ‘dream’ striker target

Man Utd transfers: Red Devils given transfer update on 32-goal star and ‘dream’ striker target

Manchester United have been given a transfer update by reporter Ben Jacobs over their pursuit of a new striker in the January window.

While Ruben Amorim already has Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund as his strikers, both have underwhelmed in front of goal with just 11 goals between them in all competitions.

The new manager has steadied the ship in recent weeks, earning a hard-fought draw at Anfield with one of their best performances of the season whilst overcoming Arsenal in the FA Cup – leaving some to wonder if there will be any additions in January to help take advantage of their upturn in form.

According to Jacobs, any deals for Man United‘s top striking targets will have to wait until the summer, with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Amorim’s former star player Viktor Gyokeres both at the top of their wanted list.

            Could Amorim reunite with Gyokeres?

“There’s been no outreach to Sporting yet, but what we can say is that Gyokeres price has dropped from his €100 million release clause down to something in the region of €70m,” Jacobs told FourFourTwo.

“He is a bit more affordable and certainly has lower wages and agent fees compared to another historical Manchester United target in Victor Osimhen, but they might look for something more economical or potentially within the Premier League.”

The Swedish international has been in brilliant form this season, continuing to hold his title as Europe’s top scorer with 32 goals in 30 games. He was the top scorer across 2024 and has five goals in six Champions League games this season.

Given he already knows how Amorim wants to play, is blessed with power and pace and has an unearthly hunger to find the back of the net, he would be a dream signing – but they are likely to face stiff competition from Europe’s elite this summer.

Or is Osimhen their main target?

“Victor Osimhen is a Manchester United dream target but financially it’s very difficult, even with that release clause dropping to €75million. Nothing is possible in January,” Jacobs told The United Stand.

“Osimhen has not changed his mind. He still wants his next move to be permanent. So the whole, ‘nearly joined Chelsea, nearly joined Saudi, didn’t get either, went temporarily went to Turkey’ hasn’t made the player think, ‘maybe I ought to contemplate a loan with an option’.

“Victor Osimhen is saying: ‘If you want me, you sign me permanently whether at that €75m release clause or a different package like a loan with an obligation’. Add to that £250k a week wages, and Manchester United may find that difficult.

“But they may explore Osimhen over the summer. A lot will just depend on what kind of package Napoli are prepared to give and whether Osimhen changes his mind about joining Manchester United on a loan with an option.”

Having wanted to leave Napoli, he found himself at Galatasaray in a temporary loan deal and he will likely continue to explore a move away in the summer. Plus, there may be funds raised by the sale of the likes of Antony, Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford.

He has 13 goals and six assists in 17 games this season and would be a powerful addition at the top end of the pitch who would be entering his prime years, having just turned 26.

“Fergie would’ve booted him:” Teddy Sheringham expresses disgust at United star’s recent behaviour

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham has unleashed a barrage of criticism at Marcus Rashford amid the winger’s links to a January exit.

Rashford appears to have fallen out of favour with new Man United manager Ruben Amorim, who has excluded the English international from five Premier League matches, the Carabao Cup loss to Tottenham Hotspur and last weekend’s FA Cup victory over Arsenal.

Just this morning, The Peoples Person noted that Rashford appeared to be edging closer to a move to AC Milan.

Should the report prove valid, Rashford’s brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, is expected to meet with United to communicate the player’s decision.

Following the recent transfer buzz, Sheringham has lost care and patience for Rashford, given his recent behaviour.

Asked which club Rashford should sign for to revive his career, Sheringham stated, “I don’t know, and I don’t care, really. I think the way he’s come out and said that ‘he’s ready for a new challenge’ is beyond me.”

Sheringham continued: “You used to get foreigners coming into England saying that sort of thing and people think, ‘yeah, okay’. However, when it’s one of your own from Manchester; a Manchester boy that should understand the privilege it is to play for Manchester United and where you’re at when you’re playing for Manchester United.”

“Every player in the world growing up still wants to play for Manchester United and he’s saying now that he wants a new challenge somewhere. I don’t understand it.”

Sheringham then bluntly concluded: “Fergie would’ve booted him out the door by now if he’d have said that while he was in his tenure. He’s obviously going to go somewhere, but I think his days are numbered at Man United.”

Given the most recent updates, it appears as if Sheringham may no longer need to concern himself with Rashford, given his seemingly impending departure from United.

While updates on a meeting between Rashford’s agent and the club is awaited, it does appear as if AC Milan is confident of signing the 27 year old.

Milan chief Zlatan Ibrahimovic previously expressed his willingness to speak with Rashford about his future, while the club is reportedly making strides in their transfer pursuit.

Even if a deal with Milan falls through, there appears to be other interested parties, including the likes of Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur.

No matter who ends up submitting an offer for Rashford, offloading the United academy graduate may be in the club’s best interest, not only due to his dip in form but the transfer fee that his sale will command.

United “in ongoing talks” with La Liga club over loan move for player yet to start in PL under Amorim – Sky

Manchester United are currently in dialogue with multiple clubs including La Liga outfit Real Betis over a January loan deal for Antony, reports Sky Sports.

Antony joined United from Ajax back in 2022 as he reunited with former manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford for a mammoth £86million fee.

However, he has failed to live up to his massive price tag so far, returning just 17 goal contributions across two-and-a-half seasons at United.

The Brazilian has failed to break into Ruben Amorim’s plans and it seems like his time at Old Trafford is surely coming to an end. Antony has not made a single Premier League start since Amorim replaced Ten Hag in the United dugout.

Greek side Olympiacos have been mentioned to be an interested party in Antony’s signature but he’s not believed to be too keen on joining them. A report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that West Ham are also eyeing Antony.

Late last month, it emerged that Real Betis had sounded out United to explore the possibility of getting a loan transfer for Antony over the line.

It was stated that Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini considers the 24-year-old an ideal option for his brand of football.

Now, Sky Sports reveal that United are in talks with Betis and other unnamed clubs to determine Antony’s immediate future.

According to Sky, “Manchester United are in ongoing talks with a number of clubs – including Real Betis – over a loan for Antony.”

“United will consider offers for the 24-year-old – with the most likely deal being a loan.”

“Betis are in the market for a winger having just sold Assane Diao to Como.”

Antony’s contract with United runs until 2027, with the Red Devils retaining an option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months.

United vs City transfer battle on the cards as Amorim eyes £40m star who Ten Hag failed to sign – report

Manchester United displayed their fighting spirit in ample measure as they overcame Arsenal in the FA Cup 5-3 on penalties despite having to play for over an hour with 10 men.

Altay Bayindir, at fault for the club’s ejection from the Carabao Cup for his fatal error against Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final, got a rare nod to start ahead of No 1 Andre Onana.

And the Turkiye international emerged an unlikely hero, saving two penalties while also pulling off a string of fantastic saves to keep the Red Devils in the game.

Ruben Amorim was delighted with his reserve keeper and after being linked with an exit due to his lack of minutes, the Red Devils plan to refrain from allowing the Turk to leave in January.

Bayindir has impressed but his future remains up in the air

More cup opportunities are expected to follow but Bayindir could be forced to leave in the summer, especially if he fails to dislodge Andre Onana from the starting XI.

With Tom Heaton’s contract also up at the end of the season, the 20-time English league champions need quality backup and as per Talksport, they are eyeing a familiar name.

Zion Suzuki was a target for the club two summers ago, when Erik ten Hag was still in charge. The Japanese international’s shot-stopping ability and passing qualities made him a standout target despite his young age.

However, knowing he would have to play second-fiddle to Onana, the US-born goalie decided to move to Belgian minnows Sint-Truiden on loan instead.

His displays there caught the attention of Parma, who forked out £8.5 million in the summer to land him and it is safe to say that he has been a revelation in Italy, which has once again caught United’s eye.

Parma would like to keep him for one more year. However, bids in the region of £40 million would be hard to turn down for the Serie A side.

“Manchester United are among the sides eyeing up £40 million rated Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki – two years after missing the chance to snap him up for a fraction of that price tag.

“Parma are hoping they can keep Suzuki for at least one more season, but a big-money offer would test that resolve.”

                    City, Chelsea eyeing Suzuki

TBR Football have added that the 22-year-old has also attracted the interest of fierce rivals Manchester City Chelsea, Newcastle which means the Old Trafford side have a fight on their hands to land the goalkeeper.

“Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Newcastle United have all been closely monitoring Zion Suzuki over recent months, sources have told.”

Now, with huge gaps to fill up front and in wingback, whether the club can afford such a splurge on their goalkeepeing department remains to be seen.

If there is a funds crunch in the summer as well, the club might opt to try and hold on to their Turkish international instead of splurging big on the Japanese star.

How Man Utd extension for ’embarrassing’ Amorim favourite has saved the Red Devils millions

Man Utd could have saved millions of pounds ahead of the summer transfer window by renewing Harry Maguire’s contract, according to reports.

The Red Devils have had a season to forget with Man Utd currently 13th in the Premier League table after 20 matches.

Erik ten Hag was sacked at the end of October with Ruben Amorim struggling to change lots in his first couple of months in charge, although their last two performances against Liverpool and Arsenal were encouraging for Man Utd supporters.

Amorim is looking to solve issues with the likelihood that Man Utd will struggle to bring in many signings over the January transfer window.

One player who has come to the fore in recent weeks is Maguire – who was stripped of the captaincy under Ten Hag – with the England international looking solid in the centre of a back three.

The Red Devils looked likely to let Maguire go at the end of the season but they will now keep their £80m investment for at least another year.

Maguire always looked better for England in a back three and now Man Utd could be about to benefit from Amorim’s formation change as they avoid big-money defensive signings in the summer.

                      The Daily Mail claim:

‘Harry Maguire’s renaissance at Manchester United hasn’t only earned the England defender a contract extension, it is also likely to save the club a packet in the transfer market this summer.

‘Maguire was expected to leave Old Trafford as a free agent along with Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans in June, forcing United to make another big signing in central defence a year after forking out £59million to Lille for Leny Yoro.

‘But Maguire’s revival this season, particularly since Ruben Amorim took over as head coach and installed him at the heart of a back-three, persuaded United to extend his £190,000-a-week contract until 2026 and may also change their thinking on summer recruitment.

‘Confidential understands that the club will look at a younger centre-back with potential rather than pay big money for a ready-made replacement like Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite who would have cost around £70m and £160,000-a-week in wages. That will enable United to re-direct their limited transfer funds to other areas of the team at a time when money is tight at Old Trafford.

‘Maguire, Matthijs de Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Yoro are set to continue as United’s pool of centre-backs with Noussair Mazraoui and Luke Shaw – if he stays – both able to play in the back-three.

‘Maguire’s return to form and favour continued at the Emirates on Sunday when he was outstanding in United’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on penalties. The 31-year-old’s performance was even better considering he was ill last week and was sent home from training, missing Friday’s session.’

Former Sky Sports presenter Richards Keys was impressed by Man Utd in their penalty shootout win over Arsenal but picked on Maguire for “embarrassingly looking for a pen” at the Emirates Stadium.

Keys wrote in his blog: “I’ve caught up with the game at Arsenal now. Fair play to United. That was another fine performance, but I had to smile when I saw Harry Maguire getting so upset with Havertz.

“What was it Maguire said ‘you cheating scumbag’? Has he ever said that to Fernandes? Or Rashford. Or Pogba when he was diving in the box after being sneezed on I wonder?

“Do you remember that era when United were getting penalties every week until we called it out on beINSPORTS? Fernandes is still at it. And if I’m not mistaken – I’ve even seen Maguire tumble embarrassingly looking for a pen. Behave Harry.”
