Gary Neville suggests Amorim is “targeting” these two United stars to “wrestle control” at the club

Gary Neville has suggested that Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim may be trying to copy the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson by attempting to move on Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho.

Rashford has not featured in United’s last seven games after falling out of favour under Amorim. The last time Rashford lined up for the club was during the Europa League meeting with Viktoria Plzen on December 12, when he was on the pitch for 56 minutes.

Shortly after, Rashford admitted he was ready for a new challenge away from Old Trafford and since then, he has been linked to several teams including AC Milan, Napoli, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain,  Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham.

It looks like his time at United is increasingly coming to an end, with a transfer expected to get over the line before the window closes on February 3.

There is also speculation over Garnacho’s future at United, with Napoli believed to be pursuing him as a potential replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Reports from Italy have even claimed that Garnacho has struck an agreement in principle with Napoli over a five-year contract.

Speaking on The Overlap US’ It’s Called Soccer podcast, Neville questioned whether Amorim’s apparent willingness to part ways with Rashford and Garnacho is part of his bid to take control at United.

Neville explained that the situation reminds him of how Sir Alex Ferguson used to deal with some of the club’s biggest players.

“It’s been in the news in the last 24 hours that bids are coming in for Garnacho, there’s been new stories about Rashford going on loan or to another club, it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if Ruben Amorim made these big types of calls.”

“I don’t think he’s got anything to lose. We’ve seen it all over, ten years, whereby these talented players who haven’t delivered on a consistent basis that will not get Manchester United to the top, that he might just have to target [certain players].”

“If you think about what Sir Alex Ferguson did over many, many years. Sometimes some of the major fallouts were with the big players but that was for him to wrestle control.”

“You thought, “These players can’t leave the club, it’s not right!”, but he did it to wrestle control, whether you liked it or didn’t like it, agreed or didn’t agree with it.”

Neville added, “Maybe Ruben Amorim has to go basically for the most high-profile players and say, ‘I’m in charge here, I don’t care who you are, I’m the one who is going to be implementing the standards at the football club and if you don’t quite hit them, I don’t care how talented or valuable you are, what the fans think of you, what your pay packets are, you’re done.”

“This will be a big transfer window. It might not be as big as we think but if Garnacho and Rashford were to go, they would be big moves. It wouldn’t surprise me if there was a mini clear-out and he brought in one or two players.”

United are back in action on Thursday when they host Southampton. Kick-off is at 20:00 GMT.

Man Utd transfer: Garnacho ‘agreement’ reached after Barcelona meeting as Liverpool alternative named

Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly reached an ‘agreement’ to leave Manchester United this month.

Garnacho, a previously ‘untouchable’ member of the Red Devils squad, is now thought to be available for transfer as United flirt with flouting PSR regulations.

The Argentinian is particularly valuable, along with Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford, as academy graduates count as ‘pure profit’ in PSR calculations.

A report earlier on Wednesday insisted that their Premier League rivals are ‘ready to pounce’ for the Red Devils’ prized assets if Sir Jim Ratcliffe decides they need to sell in January.

Premier League clubs believe that Man Utd co-owner Ratcliffe could be ‘more open to a deal in the remaining three weeks of the window opposed to waiting’ until the summer, ‘anticipating’ the INEOS founder looking to avoid a ‘frantic PSR sale’.

Reports have indicated that Napoli have made a €45m offer for Man Utd academy product Garnacho, with those reports dismissed as ‘agent-driven’ by sources at Old Trafford, while the Red Devils apparently told the Serie A side they want €80m to sell in the winter market.

Italian outlet Il Mattino confirm that disparity in the valuation of Garnacho between United and Napoli, but claim Antonio Conte has ‘made a precise request on the market’ for Garnacho, who’s ‘the number one target of the Neapolitan management’.

And they’ve apparently reached an ‘agreement’ with Garnacho’s entourage after a meeting in Barcelona.

      The report states:

‘Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, met in Barcelona with the entourage of the Manchester United offensive outsider, who immediately let them know how he is inclined to move to Campania.

‘The idea of working with Antonio Conte in a team that is fighting for the Scudetto and that is ready to return, from the main door, to Europe that counts from next year, attracted the interest of the Madrid native.

‘So much so that there is already a general agreement between the parties with Napoli who have proposed a 5-year contract of about 3 million euros per season to climb the talent of the Red Devils.

‘There will be work to do on the details (the entourage asks for 4 million per year, but the distance is almost minimal thanks to the inclusion of some bonuses), but the feelings after the meeting are more than positive.’

In case United refuse to reduce their asking price, the report adds that Napoli do have alternatives in mind as they seek to bolster Conte’s forward options in their bid for the Scudetto.

      The report adds:

‘And so watch out for the alternatives that respond to the profiles of Karim Adeyemi of Borussia Dortmund, for which the Gialloneri ask for 40 million euros, as well as the tracks that lead to Federico Chiesa, who would prefer to stay at Liverpool, Dan Ndoye of Bologna, for whom an exchange with Cyril Ngonge, and Patrick Dorgu of Lecce is thought of.’

United “serious” about sealing deal for €30m teenage sensation currently scoring goals for fun – report

Manchester United are reportedly very keen on completing a deal for Inter Milan youngster Francesco Pio Esposito, whose price has now been set.

The teenage striker is spending the season out on loan at Spezia Calcio in Serie B and is impressing with his fine performances.

He has so far notched nine goals in 20 appearances across all competitions, drawing the interest of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that in addition to United, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Leicester City are also admirers of Esposito.

It was stated that the Red Devils were keeping tabs on the 19-year-old ahead of a potential swoop. Now, FCInterNews08 have given an update on United’s pursuit of the goalscorer.

According to the Italian news outlet, United are “serious” about him. It’s understood that the player has “won over” the English side, who are “ready to present an offer” to Inter when the summer transfer window opens.

“The club [Inter] owns the contract and has no intention of letting go of such a talent so easily. Beppe Marotta – and the management – will not consider offers under thirty million euros for the striker of the future.”

In fact, Inter will only sanction his sale after July.

This is because Simone Inzaghi’s side are determined to use Esposito at the upcoming Club World Cup, which is set to take place in the summer.

Senior striker options Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa are currently available but their respective contracts expire at the end of June.

Inter are wary of being left short upfront, hence why they want to keep Esposito in their ranks.

The Club World Cup will also give him an opportunity to plead his case to stay under Inzaghi or even showcase his abilities to attract interest from potential suitors.

Rival PL club preparing to fork out €40m to hijack United’s deal for perfect left-wing-back

Liverpool are preparing to invest as much as €40million to sign Lecce star and reported Manchester United target Patrick Dorgu.

The left-wing-back-role is a position United are keen to bolster either in January or the summer transfer window, in a bid to ensure Ruben Amorim has the tools necessary to make the team competitive once again.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have struggled with injuries and cannot be relied upon to consistently be available for the Red Devils. Combine this with the fact that both players are being linked with exits from Old Trafford and it makes sense why United are on the hunt for left-sided fullbacks.

One of the options believed to be under consideration is Dorgu. The Lecce man has made 21 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and notching one assist in that period.

While he has mostly featured as a left-back, Dorgu has also been deployed on both wings and at right-back.

Last month, Lecce’s technical director Panteleo Corvino ruled out the possibility of Dorgu being sold in January but this has done little to quell the rumours suggesting he could be on his way out of Stadio Ettore Giardiniero.

A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United had “begun exploring” whether they could get a deal for Dorgu over the line. However, it subsequently emerged that Antonio Conte’s Napoli had usurped the Red Devils in the race to secure the 20-year-old’s services.

Now, Italian outlet Solo Lecce note that Liverpool are ready to part with a significant sum of up to €40million to beat other interested parties to Dorgu’s signature.

United’s eternal rivals are aiming to acquire a replacement for the declining Andy Robertson and it seems Dorgu is someone they think can slot seamlessly into life at Anfield.

Fabrizio Romano recently told CaughtOffside about United’s pursuit of Dorgu, “United will also consider more options – one of the players they’ve been monitoring and scouting is the Danish national team full-back Patrick Dorgu, who can play on the left, on the right, and who is a very good young player who’s doing very well in Serie A.”

“But, it’s also worth mentioning that Lecce previously rejected proposals from several clubs from abroad in the summer transfer window.”

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Thursday evening when they host Southampton.

Man Utd: Ratcliffe ‘blocks’ Rashford move as Euro giant drops out of race over ‘excessive’ demands

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has ‘blocked’ Marcus Rashford from joining a Premier League club as one suitor drops out of the race over the ‘excessive’ demands.

Rashford wants out of Old Trafford having announced his desire for a “new challenge” last month, and several top European sides have been credited with interest in the United forward.

Premier League trio West Ham, Tottenham and Arsenal have all been linked with Rashford, while there’s also interest from Juventus, AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, with interest from Saudi Arabia falling on deaf ears as the 27-year-old wants to remain in Europe.

Rashford hasn’t played for his boyhood club since December 12, missing their last seven matches, and asked on Sunday if the academy graduate has played his last game for the club, head coach Ruben Amorim said: “I don’t know. We will see.

“He is a player for Manchester United. He loves this club but I have to make choices. It is what it is.”

A report on Wednesday claimed Barcelona are ‘prioritising’ Rashford and that manager Hansi Flick is ‘expecting a response’ from the club’s hierarchy for ‘a definitive answer regarding the signing’.

His permanent exit is unlikely thanks to United’s £50m demand, but Barcelona have as good a chance as any foreign club of securing his loan signing, with The Daily Star claiming Ratcliffe has ‘blocked’ a loan move to a Premier League rivals.

              The report states:

‘With United facing the prospect of having to fund a significant chunk of Rashford’s £350,000-a-week wages, Ratcliffe is not prepared to do this and risk seeing one of his own players damage United’s chances of securing European qualification this season.’

But Rashford won’t be leaving United for Dortmund, according to TEAMtalk’s Rudy Galetti.

The Bundesliga side are on the lookout for a replacement for Donnell Malen, who moved to Aston Villa for €25m earlier this week.

Having held talks with Rashford’s people about a possible move, the potential deal has fallen down over United’s insistence on an obligation to buy being included in the loan agreement.

              The report states:

‘As we reported a few days ago, the German club is among those who have shown the strongest interest in Rashford and have also gathered information on him recently.

‘They are among those to have held discussions with Rashford’s brother, Dwaine Maynard, who doubles up as his agent. Others include Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan.

‘However, Dortmund would like a convenient formula – such as a loan with part of the salary paid by United – and without an obligation to buy.

‘Their insistence on an obligation to buy NOT being included stems from the figures requested by Man Utd.

‘£50m is the price point Man Utd have communicated and Dortmund view that figure as excessive. Furthermore, Man Utd as of today are still pushing to include at least an obligation to buy in any loan agreement.’

It’s further added that Brentford’s Kevin Schade is among the alternatives now being considered by Dortmund.

Alejandro Garnacho reaches “agreement in principle” with Napoli over five-year contract – report

Napoli have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the camp of Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho over a five-year deal.

Garnacho has been strongly linked to Napoli in the past few days amidst suggestions that United would be willing to sell him for the right price. It’s believed that unlike last season, the 20-year-old is no longer viewed as untouchable.

The Argentine momentarily fell out of favour with Ruben Amorim but he recently returned to the team and played a key role in Sunday’s win over Arsenal in the FA Cup. Garnacho provided the assist for Bruno Fernades’ opening strike before the team went on to win via a penalty shootout.

Despite this, speculation over his future has been rife. A previous report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Napoli boss Antonio Conte has identified Garnacho as the ideal replacement forKhvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is on the brink of officially joining Paris Saint-Germain.

There were claims that Napoli chief Giovanni Manna already initiated talks with Garnacho’s representatives.

This has now been reiterated by Calciomercato, who go a step further to state that an agreement over personal terms has been struck between the player and the Serie A outfit.

According to Calciomercato, “It is not news that the Salento coach [Conte] has made a specific request on the market, with Alejandro Garnacho who is the number one objective of the Neapolitan management.”

“Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, met with the entourage of the Manchester United attacking winger in Barcelona, who immediately made it known that he is inclined to move to Campania.”

“There is already an agreement in principle between the parties with Napoli who have proposed a 5-year contract of around 3 million euros per season, gradually increasing.”

“There will be work to be done on the details (the entourage is asking for 4 million per year, but the distance is almost minimal thanks to the inclusion of some bonuses), but the feelings after the meeting are more than positive.”

The report adds that the situation with United is more complex because the Red Devils want €70m to let their academy graduate leave – a sum that is too high for Napoli.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has made it clear that he is not willing to go above €50m for Garnacho.

In the event that a compromise with United fails to materialise, Napoli have alternatives lined up. These include Karim Adeyemi (Borussia Dortmund), Federico Chiesa (Liverpool), Dan Doye (Bologna) and Patrick Dorgu (Lecce).

Arsenal now chasing Amorim’s top transfer target to replace star who injured himself against United – report

Manchester United survived by the skin of their teeth against Arsenal in the FA Cup thanks to a brilliant display from the backline and goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.

However, Ruben Amorim will be concerned with the form of Rasmus Hojlund, who last scored over a month ago and has looked lost upfront on his own.

Summer signing Joshua Zirkzee has fared little better in front of goal while Marcus Rashford looks set to leave after his fateful interview.

While the team seems to be slowly coming to grips with the Portuguese head coach’s style of play, the lack of goals needs to be addressed soon if the club is to climb back up the Premier League table.

                  Striker needed, Amorim wants Gyokeres

That is why Amorim had asked for Viktor Gyokeres in January but United neither have the funds nor will Sporting Lisbon let go of their talisman for less than his release clause of €100 million.

The 39-year-old has promised his former employers that he would not approach any Sporting star in winter and therefore, a summer approach is now expected.

However, United could be in for a rude shock with Arsenal planning to raid the Lisbon outfit for their talismanic striker and are prepared to trigger his release clause in January itself as per L’Equipe.

They are in need of a goalscorer after Gabriel Jesus suffered an injury while trying to tackle Bruno Fernandes, for which the United skipper inexplicably got punished.

The Brazilian suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament for which he will have to undergo an operation and that is why Mikel Arteta is mulling over making attacking reinforcements this month.

“But the verdict came on Tuesday evening: victim of a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament, the Brazilian will not play again this season.

                  Arsenal join the race

“Among the center forwards followed by the Gunners last summer, some like Alexander Isak or Jonathan David seem inaccessible at the moment. The case of Viktor Gyökeres is perhaps different.

“The 26-year-old Swedish international has a €100m release clause in his contract with Sporting Portugal, a price Arsenal are no longer reluctant to pay since purchasing Declan Rice for €116m (in 2023).”

Now whether Arsenal will cough up the money now or wait till the summer remains to be seen. There is plenty of interest in the Swede with Bayern Munich also interested.

Gyokeres would prefer moving to a club in the Champions League, something United are unlikely to offer next season but United will be banking on the Amorim’s relationship with the striker, who reached his peak under the current United boss.

Man Utd star being ‘convinced’ by ‘great friend’ to reunite at Euro giants after £60m agreement

Scott McTominay is trying to convince former Manchester United team-mate Alejandro Garnacho to join him at Napoli, according to reports.

Garnacho is being lined up as Napoli’s replacement for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is expected to join Paris Saint-Germain this month.

The Georgian winger is closing in on a move to the French capital after the Serie A side accepted a £60million bid. They are now searching for his replacement on the left wing and the Man Utd player is top of their wishlist.

Garnacho was deemed untouchable by Sir Jim Ratcliffe when he first became co-owner at Old Trafford but the British billionaire has apparently changed his stance and will listen to offers for any player.

This includes Kobbie Mainoo and Rasmus Hojlund but it is Garnacho who is strongly being linked with an exit this month.

His former club Atletico Madrid are also believed to be keen but Napoli should up the ante in the coming days with Kvaratskhelia’s transfer to PSG close to being finalised.

Reports in Italy claim Man Utd want a fee in the region of £70m for the Argentine winger and have already rebuffed Napoli’s opening offer.

A new report from Naples outlet AreaNapoli (via Sport Witness), has involved McTominay in the transfer saga.

The report says McTominay has told his former Red Devils team-mate to ‘come to Napoli’.

The Scottish midfielder is keen to reunite with the 20-year-old as they were ‘great friends’ at Old Trafford and maintain a strong relationship.

The SW article says AreaNapoli are getting carried away and are trying to manifest Garnacho’s transfer, which is quite amusing.

Garnacho had a strong end to the 2023/24 season but has been off the boil for the most part this campaign.

The 20-year-old forward has eight goals and five assists in 30 appearances this term, though six of his goal contributions have come against weaker opposition in the Carabao Cup.

He played 80 minutes and assisted Bruno Fernandes’ goal in Sunday’s FA Cup clash at the Emirates.

Man Utd won on penalties after a 1-1 draw and will face Leicester City in the fourth round, meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy is returning to Old Trafford.

Van Nistelrooy was brought back to the club as an assistant coach by Erik ten Hag last summer and took interim charge following his compatriot’s sacking but left when Ruben Amorim was appointed head coach.

Having dipped his toes in the Premier League management water, he replaced Steve Cooper at Leicester and led his side to a 6-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, which earned them a spot in the fourth round.
