Man Utd failed in ‘last-minute attempt’ to snatch Juventus midfielder as one deal took precedence

Man Utd failed in ‘last-minute attempt’ to snatch Juventus midfielder as one deal took precedence

A report has detailed how Manchester United failed with a ‘last-minute attempt’ to land Douglas Luiz from Juventus, as another deal took precedence.

Luiz has not fit in since swapping Aston Villa for Juventus in the summer. After being one of Villa’s most important assets, the midfielder has started just five games for his new club.

His struggles have suggested a move is likely, with a number of Premier League clubs linked with his signature. Manchester City were one of the main clubs, and Tuttosport has revealed how rivals United failed with a ‘last-minute attempt’ to land Luiz.

Reports had stated that United were looking to land Luiz on deadline day, but it was suggested the move would be tough.

The new report has suggested that is largely due to the exit of Nicolo Fagioli from Juve. It is stated that ‘with Fagioli’s departure, Luiz remained in the Bianconeri midfield, despite the last-minute attempt’ from United.

The deal for the midfielder to leave Turin was confirmed late on deadline day, and with that ongoing, it seems Juventus did not want to get into negotiations for another exit, which would leave them light in the middle of the park.

Fagioli has played 564 minutes in Serie A this season, and with Luiz having played fewer than that (430) it would not be a surprise if his role was to grow in response to the exit.

It remains to be seen whether Premier League clubs will come back in for him in the summer window, but Juventus may be able to give him the sort of role he was expecting after leaving Villa.

Though Fagioli is only on loan, Fiorentina will have to buy him in the summer, so Luiz has time to show he is capable of playing an advanced role before a replacement is potentially signed at the end of the season.

“One of the best things”: Luke Littler reveals recent experience most United fans would kill for

      Luke Littler

Darts sensation Luke Littler has revealed the joy of having the chance to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson on a recent trip to Old Trafford.

The 18 year old has captured the imagination of darts fans across the world with his sensational achievements.

He sprung to fame in 2024 when he reached the final of the World Championship and went one better this year by winning the entire competition.

Littler is a public Manchester United fan and was invited to parade his trophy in front of the Old Trafford crowd at half-time during the match with Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Sun carry comments by the darts sensation where he claimed the experience of showing off the Sid Waddell Trophy at the storied stadium was “probably one of the best moments of my life and will live with me for ever.”

The 18 year old was supposed to show the trophy before kick off but the passing of Denis Law days before the match resulted in a change of plan.

The world number two then spoke of the opportunity he had to pick the brains of legendary United manager Sir Alex Ferguson during the game.

“I sat behind Sir Alex Ferguson and was chatting to him for a bit, which was good. It’s one of the best things I have ever done.”

The Glaswegian was no stranger to advising world-class youngsters during his time as a manager, so Littler will have surely gained much from the experience and taken on some sage advice.

The United side are suffering one of their worst ever season as they sit 13th in the Premier League table and have already lost 11 times.

Littler wisely advised the young squad to follow his lead and “just don’t listen to social media — that’s one of the big things.”

“In the football world, it’s totally different. You have to keep your head down. When it’s a darts game, you are on your own. When it’s United, you have a whole team around you, so must stick together.”

“He is on the biggest blade”: National team coach throws down the gauntlet to United starlet

Denmark manager Brian Riemer has thrown down the gauntlet to new Manchester United signing Patrick Dorgu.

The Red Devils have been desperate for a new left wing-back with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui playing out of position all season due to Luke Shaw’s injury woes.

Tyrell Malacia has also gone out on loan to PSV Eindhoven.

Therefore, United completed a deal for Lecce wing-back Dorgu for €35 million.

The Danish international’s under 21 coach Steffen Höjer has already lavished praise on the 20 year old and claimed he has the power and technical capacity to be a success at Old Trafford and in the Premier League.

Dorgu’s senior national team coach, Brian Riemer, is also delighted with his move but has also challenged the wing-back to rise to the occasion of playing for United.

Speaking to Danish newspaper Tipsbladet he claimed, “it is a huge endorsement of Danish talent development that two of our greatest talents, Rasmus Højlund and Patrick Dorgu, are part of perhaps the world’s greatest club.”

Nonetheless, the coach did warn Dorgu that he will be judged in an entirely different way as a United player than a Lecce one.

“Patrick must know that when he goes from Lecce to Manchester United, the expectations and pressure are completely different.”

The manager did state that if he is able to handle this pressure there is a lot of upside due to the global nature of the club.

“He has also had a lot of considerations about that with his supporters. If he succeeds, the gain is also greater, because then he is on the biggest blade. He has every opportunity to take a huge step forward in his career, but it is up to him to seize the chance.”

Dorgu will be hoping to get the chance to impress his new supporters when United welcome Leicester City to Old Trafford in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday night.

“Finally…”: 25yo star comments on hellish United experience ending after switch to European table toppers

Manchester United defender Tyrell Malacia has revealed how “happy” he is to have joined PSV Eindhoven.

The 25-year-old fullback completed the loan move in the final hours of the winter window having fallen down the pecking order under Red Devil boss Ruben Amorim.

The Portuguese coach admitted Malacia was “struggling” in a recent interview with reports suggesting Amorim did not believe the Dutch international was capable of playing as a wing-back in his system.

The arrival of Patrick Dorgu – the Danish wing-back signed from Serie A side Lecce in a deal worth a potential £30 million – further cemented Malacia’s reduced role at Old Trafford.

The club were open to the 25-year-old leaving on loan this month in the search of more first-team opportunities. At one stage, a move to Benfica had appeared on the verge of completion only for negotiations to break down after the Portuguese club offered unacceptable terms.

Eredivisie leaders PSV, who top the table by two points, then entered the race for Malacia, offering the fullback a return to his homeland and the prospect of Champions League football.

Speaking after the loan to the Dutch side was completed, Malacia revealed his excitement at the move. “I’m happy to be here. Finally playing good football again,” the defender states. “I am coming off a long injury, but by now I am fit and know that my time will come again.”

“In every tough period there are also positive elements and in this case that is that I have become much stronger physically and mentally.

“I have more patience, am more mature, know my body better and things like that. I’m ready to pop and hopefully win several prizes with PSV.”

The director of football of the Eindhoven side was similarly positive in his assessment of the move.

“We are very happy to welcome with Tyrell a player who can be of immediate value for PSV. Tyrell has a lot of experience at the highest level and is also a player with a lot of potential. We look forward to seeing him in action,” Earnest Stewart revealed.

PSV have agreed to cover Malacia’s wages in full with a €10 million buy-option should they wish to make the move permanent come the summer.

United beat two European giants to “get deal done” for brilliant January signing at bargain price – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United sealed a deal for Lecce wing-back Patrick Dorgu in the winter window to fend off summer interest in the 20-year-old from Juventus and Napoli, Fabrizio Romano reveals.

The Italian transfer guru contends the Red Devils “wanted to get [a] deal done in January” as they were acutely aware of Serie A’s biggest clubs circling for Dorgu.

A new left wing-back emerged as a “critical” priority for United heading into the transfer window given the importance the position holds in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Neither Luke Shaw nor Tyrell Malacia have been able to meet the demands of the exacting role, forcing Amorim to deploy Diogo Dalot on his unfamiliar side.

The lack of a natural left-footed option at LWB has impeded the team’s width and attacking thrust – two areas Dorgu will offer an immediate improvement, ranking first for ” successful attacking actions” amongst wing-backs and fullbacks under the age of 23.

United had identified Dorgu as an option, with Amorim’s approval, who could be signed this month without breaking the bank as the club’s finances are limited by the acute pressure of PSR.

However, Napoli and Juventus were both reported to be in the hunt for the Lecce starlet with, Romano states, “both keen on Dorgu for [the] summer transfer window.”

The transfer expert writes on X, “Patrick Dorgu will start earning £40k a week at Man United, then his salary will grow in the final seasons. Man United wanted to get deal done in January as they were aware of Napoli and Juventus both keen on Dorgu for summer transfer window.”

This interest reinforced the Red Devils’ intention to strike a deal for the Danish international this month – to buttress their coach’s squad and jump the rapidly growing queue for the 20-year-old defender.

Another attractive attribute was Dorgu’s wages at Lecce – believed to be around £10,000 a week. This means United were able to quadruple his salary in negotiations while still welcoming the Dane to Old Trafford on one of the cheaper wage packets at the club.

However, Romano reveals this “salary will grow in the final seasons” of Dorgu’s five-and-half-year deal.

It remains a coup for United to have beaten Serie A’s biggest clubs to the capture of one of the league’s most highly-rated prospects on a terrific deal financially, in a key area of weakness in the Red’s squad.

Official: United confirms the club’s latest departure in the dying hours of winter window

Manchester United have officially confirmed Tyrell Malacia has joined PSV Eindhoven on loan until the remainder of the season.

The 25-year-old defender is returning to Holland having been signed by the Red Devils from Feyenoord in 2022 for £16 million.

Malacia enjoyed an “accomplished debut season” in English football as he helped United to a 3rd place finish in the Premier League and a Carabao Cup victory over Newcastle.

However, the left-back was ruled out for the entirety of the following campaign, and the beginning of this season, with a serious knee injury which required two surgeries.

Since returning to the first-team action under Ruben Amorim, Malacia has featured eight times in a Reds shirt.

The Dutch defender has not gained the full trust of his Portuguese manager, however, in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system which utilises two wing-backs.

Malacia lacks the technical ability to offer a consistent attacking threat in the opposition half, while his long-term absence through injury appears to have impacted his speed, though this will likely improve as the 25-year-old gets more minutes under his belt.

Heading into the January transfer window, a new left wing-back was considered “critical” amongst Old Trafford’s hierarchy with the club eventually agreeing a deal worth a potential £30 million for Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.

This addition has further reduced Malacia’s role in Amorim’s squad and United began searching for a loan opportunity for the Dutch international.

A move to Benfica appeared on the verge of completion only for the Red Devils to end negotiations after the Portuguese side tabled a hardball offer to seal the deal. Instead, United quickly changed tac and a return to Holland was agreed in the final hours of the winter window.

PSV are currently atop the Eredivisie by two points, as well as facing Juventus in the Champions League play-offs. This offers Malacia a perfect platform to re-establish himself at the highest level in a familiar environment where has has previously thrived.

“Everybody at United wishes Tyrell well for the rest of the season,” the club’s website concludes in its update confirming Malacia had swapped Manchester for Eindhoven.

Rashford transfer: Ex-Man Utd player hits out at ‘big gamble’ on ‘lazy’ star tipped to flop at Aston Villa

A former Manchester United player reckons Aston Villa are taking a “big gamble” on Marcus Rashford as the 27-year-old is “known for being lazy”.

Rashford secured a loan move to Aston Villa before the January transfer window closed and they have an option to buy him in the summer for around £40m.

On New Year’s Eve, the Man Utd outcast announced his plan to leave his boyhood club in January, but the Premier League giants struggled to offload their academy product.

The England international was linked with AC Milan, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus, but he failed to secure a move to a European giant amid his poor form and huge salary.

Despite this, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery gave the green light for the club to sign Rashford after Jhon Duran was sold to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr and a deal was completed before the transfer deadline.

Former Man Utd defender Paul Parker is “surprised” this move was sanctioned because Rashford can be “lazy” for “anyone” after he behaved in this manner for his boyhood club.

“Aston Villa has gotten themselves a prominent name. Everyone was talking about him two years ago, but today it is a big gamble to sign him,” Parker said.

“I don’t know how big of a say the manager had. I am surprised that Emery has decided to take Rashford on. I am really surprised he has taken on that challenge.

“I wonder where he is going to play him. He doesn’t want to play as a centre forward, and they have good players on the left wing.

“Rashford is known for being lazy, and that is what everyone is thinking about. He did it to his local team, so he can do it to anyone.”

He added: “Barcelona, AC Milan and Monaco were mentioned.

“I don’t think any of those rumours were serious, and now he is going to Birmingham to play for Aston Villa. He is under the microscope.

“Man United, Rashford, Aston Villa and Emery will all be under the microscope.

“Everyone knows about Marcus Rashford, even the guy who works in the local bank who doesn’t know anything about football. And it is not good things he has heard about him.

“His fanboys will try to blame Man Utd, but Rashford is the only one to be blamed, and he has to go and say that publicly.

“He will have to work very hard now. He is not protected by his local fans anymore from his own home town club. Maybe it can take some pressure away from him, but it will be very tough for him.”

Rashford and Chelsea quartet plan to ’embarrass’ and ‘humiliate’ Amorim, Man Utd, Maresca

Marcus Rashford could ‘humiliate’ Ruben Amorim and Manchester United in the same way Chelsea stand to be ’embarrassed’ by their trio of loan cast-offs.

These loanees could well finish above their parent clubs this season. How mortifying.

                  Marcus Rashford
“It’s not embarrassing,” said Ruben Amorim. “When you loan a player you expect him to play and to improve, so there is nothing humiliating there. I understand the question but I am just focused on my players, that’s all. When the window closes, I will be really focused on just our team and to improve our team.”

It does feel as though keeping the scorer of three of the first four Premier League goals of the manager’s nascent reign might have helped a little in that regard but that particular bridge has been incinerated and submerged, leaving only a convoluted footpath to Aston Villa.

Amorim had his reasons for ostracising Rashford and has explained them in painstaking, often unnecessarily demeaning detail. Those ties have been cut so cleanly that Manchester United would prefer for the forward to find his feet in Birmingham so as to increase the chances and value of a summer sale.

But Amorim is kidding himself if he thinks it would not reflect abysmally on the club if their decision to actively weaken their attack is compounded by Rashford helping stabilise Villa’s season. It would be no shock if he outdoes the combined efforts of the remaining centre-forwards at Old Trafford from here.

                  Jadon Sancho
Amorim can at least plead innocence in the case of Sancho, although it does not require the wildest imagination to envisage another one-sided clash between manager and player if the two ever become properly acquainted.

Chelsea’s Sancho hype train has certainly slowed, if not yet ground to a shuddering halt. He has no goals and one assist in his last 10 appearances and was taken off after 52 minutes of the West Ham win for goalscorer Pedro Neto.

Yet only Amad and Bruno Fernandes have more combined goals and assists in the Premier League so far this season than the inaugural member of this expensive Manchester United attacking loan army, the “amazing bargain” who can sometimes be lost in the Stamford Bridge shuffle.

It seems pointless referring to it as ‘an obligation to buy’ considering Chelsea feel obliged to sign anything cognisant, but the Sancho deal will be made permanent for £25m if the Blues finish no lower than 14th – currently a place below Manchester United. Amorim’s shambles can catch up if they pick up 14 points from as many matches while Enzo Maresca’s side would need to lose all their remaining games, and it is hilariously damning that the latter is more likely.

                  Raheem Sterling
If Rashford is worth a £40m option and Sancho is tied to a £25m deal, where does that leave the considerably older and in far worse form Sterling?

It was supposed to be a piece of beautifully opportunism which exposed the deficiencies in Chelsea’s risible transfer approach while providing Arsenal with another leg-up to the title.

But the football has very much left a player who fell unexpectedly high upwards and has failed to capitalise on the chance that presented. Sterling’s solitary goal in 17 games was in the third round of the Carabao against League One side Bolton. Jakub Kiwior has played more often this season and Ethan Nwaneri is close behind. His three Premier League starts have lasted an average of 52 minutes.

Chelsea still handled the situation dreadfully in the summer but from a pure, cold and hard business perspective they absolutely nailed a call that baffled most, even if they did lend Sterling to one of the few clubs who will finish above them.

                  Neto
It is closer than most will have expected when the deal was done shortly before the summer deadline but Arsenal will indeed hand Neto back down to Bournemouth upon the end of his loan. By then the keeper will probably still have played more games for the Cherries (three) than the Gunners (one) this season, despite leaving the former for the latter in August.

                  Kepa
Less predictable – although the world’s most expensive goalkeeper did express a desire to “win something” under Andoni Iraola when he joined – was Bournemouth locking themselves in a fight for Champions League qualification against your Chelseas, your Newcastles, your Manchester Citys and especially your Nottingham Forests of this world.

Kepa has been crucial to that and salvaged at least some of a reputation which was systematically destroyed across five seasons at Stamford Bridge, keeping more clean sheets in 17 league games than Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen have mustered between them in 24.

He will absolutely either be loaned back out again next season, or become a liability once more when he dons those cursed Chelsea gloves.

                  Axel Disasi
Not even an earnest chat with Ange Postecoglou could have convinced Disasi despite Spurs trying twice. The defender had agreed personal terms with Aston Villa and to anyone not named Fabian Delph that means something.

It is fundamentally hilarious that Chelsea preferred to shift a player across to their bitter rivals in north London rather than Villa, but also entirely understandable. Disasi, despite all available Premier League evidence thus far, is a £38.8m centre-half who ostensibly improves a rival for Champions League qualification.

Villa certainly needed it, with Ezri Konsa very possibly their best available option at both right-back and centre-half. Disasi’s last start, the Ipswich debacle in December, would suggest that is very much still the case but he should surely help alleviate some of the pressure.

                  Alex Moreno
Not the first player to ultimately lose a jostle for position against Lucas Digne and surely not the last. Moreno surrendered his starting place at Villa to injuries as much as anything else and Nottingham Forest offered a fresh start in the summer.

The Spaniard cannot have foreseen his loan club’s journey since then and can take pride in the part he initially played, but Neco Williams has produced career-best form from December onwards to reduce Moreno to a role as chief cheerleader, which it must be said he seems to revel in.

Manchester United academy midfielder Ruben Curley has sent an emotional message to his boyhood club after sealing a permanent move to Stoke City.

The 19 year old was one of numerous departures from the academy side to lower league teams this window.

Nonetheless, he was the only permanent sale away from the club and he will join up with the Championship outfit in search of greater game time.

The midfielder played seven times for the under 21s this season, providing one assist.

Curley took to Instagram to pen an emotional goodbye to the club he has called home for the vast majority of his life.

“For the past 13 years, Manchester United has been my home. I’ve made some unforgettable memories and met some lifelong friends as well as all the amazing experiences this club has given me.”

The 19 year old took the time to thank the plethora of coaches and staffs that assisted him during his “highs and lows” at the club.

He also wished his teammates all the best and luck for the future as they aim to break into the senior squad at Old Trafford.

“It’s been an extremely tough decision but I feel it’s the right time to move on and take on new challenges.”

“Thank you Manchester United and all of the fans that make this club so special. Once a red, always a red.”

Curley posted the statement alongside a picture of him standing outside the Academy Training centre at Littleton Road when he was a child.

It will have been a tough decision for the youngster to make but with a place in the first team squad looking a long shot, he will hope to gain access to senior football faster at the Bet365 Stadium.

Manchester United brought forward their plans to sign Arsenal’s Ayden Heaven from this summer to the January window.

Many supporters were left frustrated by United’s inability to sign an attacking player this winter after loaning out Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Nonetheless, the club has continued its policy of signing highly-rated youngsters.

Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon have all been signed up to the club in an attempt to bring in some of the most exciting talents at home and abroad.

Arsenal centre back Heaven is also thought to be in this category and he completed a move from the Gunners last week.

The Athletic now report that United had to change their plans for Heaven when they spotted an opportunity to strike in January.

“As evidenced by his unveiling alongside Dorgu, Heaven is viewed as a club-led, first-team level signing, with technical director Jason Wilcox influential in the process.”

“Heaven’s scholarship deal at Arsenal was due to expire at the end of the season but United’s pursuit was brought forward after originally being planned for the summer.”

With Lisandro Martinez’s cruciate ligament tear in his knee that will keep him out for the rest of the season, perhaps Heaven will get more chances than anyone participated.

Wilcox has described the 18 year old as “an extremely talented defender who is ready to join our first-team squad in order to maximise his development.”

The youngster will be joining his former teammate Chido Obi, who also traded North London for Manchester recently.

The Dane has made a fantastic start to life at the club, scoring nine goals in ten games this season for the under 18s and 21s. Heaven will certainly aspire to make a similar impression to his fellow former Gunner.
