United sprung into action to bring forward plans to sign “extremely talented” youngster – The Athletic

Manchester United brought forward their plans to sign Arsenal’s Ayden Heaven from this summer to the January window.

Many supporters were left frustrated by United’s inability to sign an attacking player this winter after loaning out Antony and Marcus Rashford.

Nonetheless, the club has continued its policy of signing highly-rated youngsters.

Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon have all been signed up to the club in an attempt to bring in some of the most exciting talents at home and abroad.

Arsenal centre back Heaven is also thought to be in this category and he completed a move from the Gunners last week.

The Athletic now report that United had to change their plans for Heaven when they spotted an opportunity to strike in January.

“As evidenced by his unveiling alongside Dorgu, Heaven is viewed as a club-led, first-team level signing, with technical director Jason Wilcox influential in the process.”

“Heaven’s scholarship deal at Arsenal was due to expire at the end of the season but United’s pursuit was brought forward after originally being planned for the summer.”

With Lisandro Martinez’s cruciate ligament tear in his knee that will keep him out for the rest of the season, perhaps Heaven will get more chances than anyone participated.

Wilcox has described the 18 year old as “an extremely talented defender who is ready to join our first-team squad in order to maximise his development.”

The youngster will be joining his former teammate Chido Obi, who also traded North London for Manchester recently.

The Dane has made a fantastic start to life at the club, scoring nine goals in ten games this season for the under 18s and 21s. Heaven will certainly aspire to make a similar impression to his fellow former Gunner.

Alex is a huge Manchester United fan, inspired by greats of his homeland such as George Best, Harry Gregg and Norman Whiteside. Proud owner of such niche shirts such as Kleberson, Eric Djemba-Djemba and Gary Neville. Grew up pretending to be Ruud van Nistelrooy and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the back garden, with little success.
