Man Utd Told They Have “More Of A Chance” Of Signing £70M Rated Real Madrid Star After Bust Up

BACK David Tully May 20th 2026 Ex-Man Utd star Lee Sharpe thinks his former club have “more of a chance” of securing the signature of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni following recent events. The Frenchman was involved in an altercation with teammate Federico Valverde, which ended with the latter being treated in hospital for a head injury. Both players were fined by Real for the bust-up, and when asked by AceOdds.com about the situation, Sharpe said: “With the recent ongoing dressing room shenanigans, shall we say, United may have a little bit more of a chance of getting Tchouameni out of Real Madrid.” Tchouameni is high up the club’s list of targets The Red Devils are said to be keen on recruiting the 26-year-old ahead of the next transfer window. The Red Devils have clearly been given information that he may become available this summer. Some reports suggest that Real would be willing to let Tchouameni leave for around £70m, but it remains to be seen whether that is in fact the case. Man Utd are considering a whole host of midfielders Director of Football Jason Wilcox is casting his net far and wide to find a replacement for Casemiro. In addition to Tchouameni, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali, West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, Brighton’s Carlos Baleba and Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton have all been linked with a switch to Old Trafford. More than one midfielder is likely to be signed over the next few months, with it being claimed that United have £150m in reserve to strengthen that position. Tchouameni would not be the most expensive of the options if his reported asking price is accurate. The likes of Anderson and Tonali are expected to cost closer to the £100m mark. Man Utd are one of several teams interested in signing West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen, according to reports. The Guardian claim that the Red Devils (along with Chelsea and Liverpool) could take advantage if the Hammers are relegated. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side need to win their final game against Leeds and hope Tottenham lose to Everton in order to stay up. Bowen has still managed to score 10 goals and provide 11 assists this season despite the London club’s difficulties, but United fans on X are not keen on the winger making the switch to Old Trafford: Wanted him at United 4 years ago. A lot will depend on how much Bowen costs. If West Ham are prepared to let him go for a reasonable fee, then signing him as a squad player is not out of the question. United target £30m playmaker with “huge potential” as major upgrade on Ugarte – The Athletic

United target £30m playmaker with “huge potential” as major upgrade on Ugarte – The Athletic

Manchester United are on the hunt for two of the finest midfielders in the Championship as the club considers raids for Hayden Hackney and Shea Charles, a new report has revealed. Bolstering the Squad United’s priority in INEOS’ third summer at the helm is a complete revamp in midfield, with the previous windows having focused on upgrading the defence and attack. Only Manuel Ugarte has been signed to bolster the middle of the pitch since Sir Jim Ratcliffe became co-owner, a transfer which is comfortably the worst of the hierarchy’s tenure. The 25-year-old Uruguayan will be sold if a suitable buyer can be sourced, while Casemiro is certain to depart once his contract expires, leaving Kobbie Mainoo as the only senior midfielder at Old Trafford. A replacement for the Brazilian behemoth is considered the most urgent, and the one which will cost the most. A versatile No.8 to rotate with Mainoo is also on the agenda, as is a younger (and cheaper) option to provide depth — but only if Ugarte is sold. The Athletic reveals two of the names on United’s wish list are Hackney, Middlesbrough’s midfield maestro, and Southampton dynamo Charles. By dipping into the Championship, the Red Devils will be able to target players who are comfortable in a league with similar speed and intensity to the Premier League, without the associated costs. There is the obvious caveat of how those signings will adapt to the obvious jump in quality from England’s second division to its first, but the Premier League is filled with quality operators who first made their name elsewhere in the football pyramid. Hayden Hackney Hackney is obviously well-known to United’s head coach, Michael Carrick, after the pair’s shared time at the Riverside Stadium. However, the 23-year-old has gone from strength to strength since Carrick left, firmly establishing himself as one of the best playmakers in the Championship. The Redcar native is capable of dictating play from deep, possessing a wonderful passing range and the ability to evade the opposition press. He has also added more attacking threat to his game this season, returning six goals and eight assists as he has helped propel ‘Boro to the final of the playoffs — albeit in controversial fashion, as will be discussed shortly. The Athletic claims Hackney is “well-liked” by figures at Old Trafford, most obviously his former manager. He is seen as a talent with “huge potential”, particularly as these types of midfield conductors rarely are the whole package by 23 — as Luka Modric or Vitinha prove. However, United are not alone in their admiration, with Brighton, Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest all understood to be tracking Hackney. Whether Middlesbrough emerge triumphant from the playoff final against Hull City this weekend will likely prove key to his availability, though sources suggest an exit is inevitable either way. A £30m price tag is believed to be set. Shea Charles Charles, 22, has developed into a well-rounded midfielder at St Mary’s, capable of operating in a number of areas of the pitch, including at fullback. This versatility will be attractive to United, given the different positions that need to be addressed in Carrick’s squad this summer. The Northern Ireland international had already captained his country by the age of 20, and has produced strong performances for Michael O’Neill’s side against high-quality opposition in Germany and Italy. It was Jason Wilcox, United’s sporting director, who signed Charles at Southampton for £15m in July 2023, having previously worked with him during their shared time at Manchester City’s academy, where Wilcox was director. The Athletic states the Saints midfielder is seen as a “lower-cost” option with “potential high upside” if given the room to continue development at the Theatre of Dreams. Interestingly, Southampton may be forced to sell many of their star players this summer after becoming embroiled in the ‘Spygate’ controversy, having been found guilty of spying by the EFL and kicked out of the playoffs, despite beating Middlesbrough in the semi-finals. There has been enormous backlash, both inside and outside of the south coast club, with calls for manager Tonda Eckert to resign. If Southampton had been promoted, their negotiating position for Charles would have been strong; it has now never been weaker, with United circling in the background. Final Thoughts The depressing reality is that it will not be hard to upgrade Ugarte, the Unable Uruguayan, this summer, given just how poor he has been since arriving from Paris Saint-Germain for £50.7m two years ago. The only difficulty United will find is locating a willing buyer to take him off their hands permanently. Both Hackney and Charles would be excellent additions, though the Middlesbrough maestro is a more accomplished and developed player at this stage of their respective careers. However, Charles’ physicality and versatility make him a better squad option, as well as a more complementary partner to Mainoo, who shares many attributes with Hackney. But if Luis Enrique’s all-conquering PSG side, which was sparked to life by booting Ugarte out of the French capital in place of Portuguese starlet Joao Neves, has taught us anything, it’s you can never have too many technically gifted midfielders in your squad. The Spanish tactician is INEOS’s dream coach to lead their revolution in M16; if the choice was left up to him between Hackney and Charles, the ‘Boro playmaker would be in a red shirt on day one of the summer window. United make contact for relentless PL star with Gareth Bale-like mentality – report

Manchester United’s preference is to sign Premier League-proven players as part of their midfield overhaul. According to The Athletic, work is well underway at United to find at least two midfielders for Michael Carrick ahead of next season. Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson’s name is right at the top of the club’s wishlist. However, Manchester City are considered “the clear frontrunners” for the signature of the £100 million-rated star. Manchester United hold talks for Tyler Adams The Athletic adds that Manchester United are monitoring several Premier League midfielders. “Progress is being made on personal terms with players so United can understand the full costs of potential moves and then press ahead depending on the configuration that makes tactical and financial sense,” the report states. It is understood Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams is on United’s radar. The USMNT star “would be the archetypal midfielder” to protect the defence. The 27-year-old is known for his intense style of play, having come through the Red Bull set-up. At Bournemouth, he has been integral to Andoni Iraola’s all-action, aggressive style. While the likes of Alex Scott, who is also admired at United, thrive going forward, it is Adams, whose positional awareness and ability to put out fires allow his teammates freedom to make a difference in the final third. The Athletic claims United are in touch to understand the cost, which might be in the £40 million region for Adams. Tyler Adams hailed for his monster mentality He has two years left on his contract with the Cherries, having joined them from Leeds United in 2023. Adams made his senior debut with New York Red Bulls in 2016, impressing then teammate Bradley Wright-Phillips with his mentality. When he was asked if he had ever played with a young player with the kind of strong mentality Adams possesses, Wright-Phillips said: “Gareth Bale.” “I saw a similar attitude. Don’t get me wrong, because you guys like to twist things. I’m not saying they’re the same player, or he’s going to have the same career as (Bale), but they both have a mentality where they know what they’re good at and they’re not afraid when they step out on the field,” he added. Manchester United are stepping up their interest in AFC Bournemouth maestro Alex Scott as the summer transfer window fast approaches, according to a highly-rated transfer expert. Rebuilding the Midfield United are in the market for at least two midfielders — or three if Manuel Ugarte is sold — as the club braces for the impact of Casemiro‘s departure. Despite enjoying a resurgent campaign, INEOS opted against triggering a one-year extension in the Brazilian international’s contract, which is the most expensive at Old Trafford. A successor is considered the most pressing priority, with Nottingham Forest talisman Elliot Anderson and Real Madrid superstar Aurélien Tchouaméni the primary targets. But an all-action No.8 to rotate with Kobbie Mainoo is also on the agenda, which has led United to zero in on Scott after a superb season on the south coast with high-flying Bournemouth. The 22-year-old has been an integral part of Andoni Iraola’s side, who have qualified for Europe for the first time in the club’s 127-year history. There remains a chance they can still bag a Champions League spot, but results elsewhere will have to go their way. Possessing a potent pairing of physicality and technique, Scott is able to thrive across all phases of play. He is capable of hard yards and heads-up football, with the ability to progress the ball forward quickly; the type of midfielder any manager would love to have in their ranks. His performances won him a call-up to the England squad in November as Thomas Tuchel was suitably impressed, while Michael Carrick is understood to be similarly smitten, with the United coach said to have been wowed by his breakout season after being an admirer during his time at Bristol City. United hold talks Laurie Whitwell, the gold standard for United updates, reveals Scott is “liked” by INEOS, and would be a “good long-term investment that could be a mainstay in United’s midfield for the next decade.” The Athletic reporter confirms “talks have been held” to gauge the viability and financial demands involved in a summer swoop, which mirrors a report relayed by The Peoples Person that a “secret transfer meeting” had been held with Bournemouth officials last week. United have also been linked with a number of Scott’s teammates at the Vitality Stadium, including Marcos Senesi, Tyler Adams, Marcus Tavernier and Eli Junior Kroupi. A price tag in the region of £50 million has been suggested, though the Cherries will be hoping growing interest elsewhere in the Premier League will drive this up. Chelsea and Liverpool are understood to be closely tracking the Guernsey native. Final Thoughts Scott ticks many of the boxes — young, hungry, versatile, Premier League proven — United are now guiding their recruitment with in the INEOS era. If a reasonable fee can be struck with Bournemouth, which is far from certain after qualifying for Europe, then he would prove an excellent signing. But if a bidding war erupts as other Premier League heavyweights enter the fray, a well-rounded alternative to Mainoo at a price reserved only for his partner in crime in midfield will quickly lose its appeal for the decision-makers in M16. Manchester United are expected to make major moves in the summer transfer market to strengthen their midfield. It is believed that United want to bring in at least two, possibly three, midfielders to play in the middle of the park. The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell reports that progress is being made “on personal terms with players so United can understand the full costs of potential moves and then press ahead depending on the configuration that makes tactical and financial sense.” Manchester United in contact to sign Aurelien Tchouameni It is claimed that Manchester United’s preference is to sign Premier League-proven midfielders. However, one of their targets, who fits the bill perfectly as far as replacing Casemiro is concerned, is currently plying his trade in Spain. According to The Athletic, United officials have watched Aurelien Tchouameni in person this season.  It is understood that United are “in position” should Real Madrid express an openness to selling. Tchouameni, who was signed by Los Blancos from AS Monaco to replace Casemiro in 2022, is admired for his astute handling of the ball and front-foot defending.  The France international was recently under the spotlight following a training ground dispute with teammate Federico Valverde.  Though Tchouameni has not expressed a desire to leave, the “turmoil at the Bernabeu hints at an opportunity for United and they are in touch with the relevant people in case a transfer becomes on the cards.” Jose Mourinho eyeing Manchester United defender The Athletic adds that Jose Mourinho’s appointment “slows that process down”, as Real’s new manager is expected to want time to study his squad. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Diogo Dalot. However, Michael Carrick, who is set to be named United’s permanent head coach, has no desire to let the Portuguese right-back depart Old Trafford. “He has got that…”: Arsenal icon explains why United must sign 28-yo PL midfield warrior

Manchester United remain linked with several midfielders as they prepare for life after Casemiro. The veteran midfielder has been in red-hot form this season, scoring nine goals in 35 appearances and helping the Red Devils finish third in the league. However, the Brazilian is set to leave Old Trafford this summer at the end of his contract. The Premier League giants are now searching for his replacement, with the midfield expected to dominate their transfer activity this summer. INEOS received praise for their strategy last summer, when their decision to invest wisely in the attack and goalkeeping departments addressed two major issues in the squad. United are now out to repeat the trick with the midfield this year, with Premier League-proven talent likely to be on the agenda once again. Several candidates from the top tier of English football have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford as a result. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is on the list, but one of his team-mates who has also been tipped to make the move is Ibrahim Sangare. A strong replacement for Casemiro Sangare arrived at Toulouse as a teenager in 2016 and soon broke into the senior side. Such was his impact that PSV Eindhoven came calling in 2020, and the player enjoyed an impressive run at the Philips Stadion. That prompted Forest to prise him away in 2023 and the Ivorian has been with the West Bridgford club ever since. After a slow start to life at the City Ground, Sangare has come into his own this season. The 28 year old has registered two goals and three assists in 42 appearances, flourishing in a defensive midfield role. Ibrahim Sangare Stats: 2025/26 Season CompetitionAppearancesStartsGoalsAssistsYellow CardsRed CardsMinutes Played Premier League2724225-2,015′ UEFA Europa League147-11-739′ EFL Cup10—-6′ Total4231236-2,760′ Source: Transfermarkt. The 6’3” Ivorian is known to be a dominant presence in the middle of the park, where his ability to win back possession and screen the backline makes him an asset. Sangare is adept at tackling but also possesses impressive ball-carrying ability, making him a fine potential replacement for Casemiro at Old Trafford. Despite his recent performances, a previous report from The Peoples Person suggests that the player is not a priority for the Red Devils. However, Arsenal legend Ian Wright begs to differ. Wright advises United to sign Sangare Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, Wright suggested that Sangare could be a good option to address United’s midfield conundrum. He said: “You know who I quite liked as well? That Sangare at Forest? He has got that… You know something?” “When I watched him, I thought to myself, obviously, maybe some of the technical, but like he’s, physicality. That’s the kind of player, you know, with Utd. You could get him in at Utd, with the quality around him, you just do that. Just do that physical stuff. I think that’s the kind of profile.” Sangare is under contract at the City Ground until 2028, so Forest could demand a hefty fee for his signature. However, the Ivorian is likely to be a lot cheaper than Anderson, who is expected to cost around £100 million this summer. Final Thoughts While Sangare’s Premier League experience could appeal to United, he will turn 29 in December. INEOS have preferred to sign younger players since taking charge and may not be too keen to invest in the Ivorian. Amazingly, he has played in three European finals in that time, losing the Champions League final with Borussia Dortmund in 2024. He did win and score in the final of the Conference League last year and was also victorious with Aston Villa in the Europa League final last night. Performance Sancho has played a bit-part role all season at Villa Park, and this did not change in Istanbul as Aston Villa ran out 3-0 winners over Freiburg. He played the final nine minutes of the match and had just five touches of the ball. The winger also made no key passes or completed any dribbles. He did make both his passes, though, but lost his only duel attempt in his limited time on the pitch. Still, despite little impact, he was on the pitch when Aston Villa claimed their first trophy since 1996 and their first European title since 1982. Future Sancho is likely to leave Manchester United at the end of the season as a free agent, but a report last night suggested that the Red Devils may extend his contract by a year to try and receive a transfer fee for the Englishman.
