United prepared to agree deal for French superstar, officials have watched him in person – The Athletic

Manchester United are expected to make major moves in the summer transfer market to strengthen their midfield. It is believed that United want to bring in at least two, possibly three, midfielders to play in the middle of the park. The Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell reports that progress is being made “on personal terms with players so United can understand the full costs of potential moves and then press ahead depending on the configuration that makes tactical and financial sense.” Manchester United in contact to sign Aurelien Tchouameni It is claimed that Manchester United’s preference is to sign Premier League-proven midfielders. However, one of their targets, who fits the bill perfectly as far as replacing Casemiro is concerned, is currently plying his trade in Spain. According to The Athletic, United officials have watched Aurelien Tchouameni in person this season.  It is understood that United are “in position” should Real Madrid express an openness to selling. Tchouameni, who was signed by Los Blancos from AS Monaco to replace Casemiro in 2022, is admired for his astute handling of the ball and front-foot defending.  The France international was recently under the spotlight following a training ground dispute with teammate Federico Valverde.  Though Tchouameni has not expressed a desire to leave, the “turmoil at the Bernabeu hints at an opportunity for United and they are in touch with the relevant people in case a transfer becomes on the cards.” Jose Mourinho eyeing Manchester United defender The Athletic adds that Jose Mourinho’s appointment “slows that process down”, as Real’s new manager is expected to want time to study his squad. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Diogo Dalot. However, Michael Carrick, who is set to be named United’s permanent head coach, has no desire to let the Portuguese right-back depart Old Trafford.
