Elliot Anderson was initially packaged as Manchester United’s top midfield target. Yet over time, it became clear that pursuing him was a futile exercise for the Red Devils. Anderson is keen on joining Manchester City, with the Cityzens equally keen, and preferring a rival with the financial muscle to meet his demands. Ineos appeared to see the wisdom in shifting focus to other targets. Tonali a top Man United midfield target A report relayed by The Peoples Person not long ago claimed United boss Michael Carrick had identified Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali as his number one midfield target. United are yet to open talks with the Magpies over a deal for the Italian, but they may now need to move quickly. Reports suggest City are already negotiating with Nottingham Forest over Anderson, with the Cityzens’ opening bid having been rejected, though talks continue. While the two sides could yet reach an agreement, there remains a chance they may not, particularly given the extraordinary figures Forest are demanding. Tonali: Man City’s Elliot Anderson alternative Crucially, should a deal for Anderson collapse, Fabrizio Romano is sounding a warning to United. The transfer guru reports: “Manchester City remain in talks for Elliot Anderson after first bid rejected, but Forest want more than £100m. “Understand Sandro Tonali is emerging as a strong option for Man City if the Anderson deal cannot get done…[They] are considering the possibility of going all in on Sandro Tonali if they cannot get Elliot Anderson.” It increasingly looks as though City’s mission this summer is to systematically wreck United’s midfield rebuild, and they are making no secret of it. Ineos better act First it was Anderson, now Tonali, and there is also talk of City eyeing Mateus Fernandes. The pattern is hard to ignore. United must act decisively. If Tonali is genuinely a priority, the deal needs to get done, and soon. City are currently focused on the Anderson deal; United clearly have the opportunity to beat their noisy neighbours at their own game by denying them the chance to sign Tonali should the Anderson pursuit fall flat. “Fantastic” talent chooses between United and Arsenal, talks ongoing to seal summer deal – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United appear to have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of Leicester City speedster Jeremy Monga. The Red Devils’ form in the final third of the pitch improved drastically in the 2025/26 campaign following an investment of over £200 million in the frontline last summer. United scored 69 goals in 38 Premier League games, just two fewer than champions Arsenal. While Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all enjoyed impressive debut campaigns, the English giants remain on the hunt for further attacking reinforcements this year. The idea is to add more width to the frontline, as neither Cunha nor Mbeumo are natural wingers. The duo have a tendency to drift inside, and the Red Devils are looking for a speedy winger who can stretch the opposition and add another dimension to their attack. RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye have been named as options, but INEOS also remain alert to rising stars from across the country. A previous report relayed by The Peoples Person suggests that Monga is on United’s wish list this year. United plotting to take advantage of Leicester City’s struggles Monga rose through the ranks at the King Power Stadium and broke into the senior side in April 2025. He subsequently became the second-youngest player to feature in the Premier League, behind Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri. Last season, the 16 year old registered one goal and two assists in 30 appearances across competitions for the East Midlands club, 10 of which were starts. A left-sided attacker who can also operate centrally as a playmaker, Monga’s speed and explosive dribbling make him a lucrative option for United. Red Devils legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who was in charge of Leicester City during the 2024/25 campaign and handed the teenager his debut, famously described him as “fantastic”. The Foxes were relegated to League One, the third tier of English football, last season and have to raise funds to balance their finances this summer. The East Midlands club are likely to turn to player sales to address the situation. The English giants are ready to take advantage of the situation and prise the Englishman away, although it is believed that the Foxes are holding out for a £15 million fee. A previous report states that the Red Devils are locked in a battle with the Gunners for the teenager. A recent update has now emerged that will not please United fans. Monga opens door to Emirates move According to acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano, Monga has given his green light to a move to Arsenal. Sharing the news on his X handle, the journalist wrote: “Arsenal are pushing to advance on Jeremy Monga deal with Leicester City and player’s camp. Discussions ongoing as Monga has opened doors to the move to #AFC.” The Gunners are coming off a stellar campaign, winning the Premier League title and reaching the Champions League final. However, the north London giants remain keen to upgrade their attack, which could put a dent in United’s plans. Journalist Ben Jacobs has reported the same on X, adding that Monga picked Arsenal over several clubs: “Advanced talks taking place with Leicester after Monga picked #AFC over several other clubs. A full verbal agreement is close.” The Red Devils are preparing for a busy summer and have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson. Securing Monga’s services, though, is unlikely to be as straightforward. Final Thoughts United have shifted to a youth-centric transfer policy under INEOS, and Monga is exactly the kind of talent they will want in their squad. However, all signs indicate that the Red Devils are resigned to missing out on the teenager. 🚨🔴⚪️ Arsenal are pushing to advance on Jeremy Monga deal with Leicester City and player’s camp. United’s hunt for “elite” midfield maestro rocked as arch PL rival storms into race with 52m bid – report

Manchester United’s interest in LOSC Lille wonderkid Ayyoub Bouaddi is under serious threat from Arsenal, according to the latest report. Ligue 1 Starlet Despite only turning 18 in October, Bouaddi has already established himself as a permanent fixture in Lille’s starting eleven this season, making 42 appearances in all competitions. The French-born midfielder, who has chosen to represent Morocco and will play at the World Cup this month for the Atlas Lions, is an all-action dynamo capable of playing across a variety of roles. Possessing a powerful 6’1″ frame, he has found no issues adapting to senior football in the most demanding area of the pitch. These physical qualities are paired with “elite” technique as well, making him one of the most highly-rated prospects in Europe, and the latest talent to emerge from Lille’s renowned academy. It therefore makes sense for United to have registered interest, given they already struck a £52 million deal to sign Leny Yoro two years ago, another product from the Stade Pierre-Mauroy. The club are intent on revamping their midfield this summer, with Casemiro‘s contract set to expire and Manuel Ugarte available for sale. A £35m deal has already been agreed for Ederson, Atalanta’s Brazilian enforcer, while talks are ongoing for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes. But Bouaddi has long been on United’s radar, with scouts tracking his progress and delivering regular reports to the recruitment department. If Ugarte is sold, Bouaddi would be an outstanding replacement to pair alongside Kobbie Mainoo as a partnership for the future. Arsenal strike first The Red Devils are not alone in their admiration, however, with virtually every top side in Europe keeping tabs, though it is an old foe who is leading the charge. Fresh from securing their first Premier League title in 22 years, Arsenal are not resting on their laurels as they look to strengthen Mikel Arteta’s squad. Foot Africa claims the Gunners have identified Bouaddi as one of their “top priorities” this summer. A £52m bid has been tabled, but immediately rejected by Lille, who are holding out for up to £60m for their prized asset. A strong showing at the World Cup would only serve to strengthen their negotiating position. Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are also understood to be in the mix, offering Les Dogues hope of a bidding war breaking out amongst Europe’s elite. Final Thoughts While Bouaddi has made a strong impression at Old Trafford, United’s budget will not be able to stretch to spending £60m on an 18-year-old prospect in midfield. If Arsenal have already faced rejection with a £52m bid, the chances of Bouaddi becoming a Red Devil this summer are next to nil. United’s plan to sign 22-yo wing wizard in ruins as Bayern Munich reach “verbal agreement” first – Sky Sports

Manchester United’s pursuit of Nathaniel Brown has suffered a decisive blow from Bayern Munich, according to the latest reports from Germany. Reinforcing the Backline Despite Luke Shaw defying expectations by playing every Premier League match this season, there is tacit recognition at Old Trafford that this was only possible due to a reduced workload. The absence of European football and early exits from the cup competitions limited United – and Shaw – to one game per week, enabling the 30-year-old full-back to properly recuperate between matches. With a return to the Champions League next year, as well as hopes for deeper runs in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, INEOS are prioritising a new left-back to provide an alternative for Michael Carrick to rely on. A pair of highly rated options at domestic rivals – Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly and Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall – are understood to be the leading targets. However, moves for either English starlet will prove costly to prise from their respective clubs. Touchline Terror This has led United to consider alternatives on the continent, such as Brown – Eintracht Frankfurt’s 22-year-old left-back. The Germany international, who is set to play a key role for Julian Nagelsmann’s side at the World Cup this month, is a flying full-back, capable of bombing forward and wreaking havoc in the opposition half on the overlap. Three goals and seven assists last year, followed by four goals and six assists this season, illustrate an all-action threat with the speed and stamina to dominate an entire flank on his own. If Matheus Cunha is to continue as United’s starting left winger moving forward, a left-back with the profile of Brown will prove key to balancing Carrick’s side, given the Brazilian’s tendency to cut inside on his favoured right foot. However, the Red Devils will likely be forced to find a different target as Bayern Munich have reached a “full verbal agreement” with the Amberg native, according to Florian Plettenberg. https://twitter.com/Plettigoal/status/2062521769882198183 Tweet: “EXCLUSIVE | FC Bayern and Nathaniel Brown have reached a full verbal agreement on a summer transfer. The 22 y/o versatile left-back from Eintracht Frankfurt wants to join Bayern with immediate effect. Even after very positive talks with Vincent Kompany. A long-term contract until 2031 has already been agreed. Bayern and SGE are already in contact. Markus Krösche is demanding up to €60m. The deal could still fail over the transfer fee.” The Sky Sports reporter reveals Brown wants to “join Bayern with immediate effect” after holding “positive talks” with Vincent Kompany, the manager at the Allianz Arena. A long-term contract until 2031 has already been agreed, with the Bundesliga champions now entering into formal talks with Frankfurt over a deal. And while Plettenberg claims negotiations could still “fail over the transfer fee”, when Bayern make their move for a German talent, it usually only ends with one conclusion: a new signing arriving in Bavaria. United’s “pride” as highly-rated wonderkid lands stunning World Cup opportunity – BBC
The world of football is gearing up for a huge summer, with the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico fast approaching. With this year’s tournament set to be the biggest yet, 48 countries will take centre stage to do battle, with some of the world’s best players hoping to etch their names into the history books. It is also a fine opportunity for fledgling youngsters to burst onto the scene and kick-start their careers with a memorable moment or two in the showpiece occasion. United starlet surprise call-up This will certainly be the case for Manchester United youngster Tyler Fletcher, who has been handed a shock call-up to Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad, which will be looking to spring a surprise in the summer. As reported by BBC Sport, the 19-year-old has earned his inclusion despite playing just 17 minutes of senior football before his international debut against Curaçao on 30 May. Tyler, son of United legend Darren Fletcher, chose to represent the same country as his famous father, while his twin Jack has opted to represent England should he get the nod in the coming years. Tyler’s decision has certainly paid dividends as things stand, with the experience of going to a World Cup invaluable for his growth in the early stage of his career. He will also have one up on his dad who, despite winning 80 caps for his country, never got to play in a World Cup with the Tartan Army. United pride Fletcher will be one of many Reds representing their respective countries in the tournament, and Michael Carrick will no doubt have a keen eye on all of his players throughout. United’s academy director Stephen Torpey has spoken on Fletcher’s call-up and could not hide his delight for the Carrington graduate. Speaking to BBC Radio Manchester, Torpey described his “obvious pride” in the young man and praised his attitude off the pitch as well as on it, tipping Tyler for a bright future in the game. “I am sure the family are as proud of Tyler today as they were before this opportunity came around because he is a lovely young person and great to have around our training ground, which is a credit to the family. “Of course, it is not something you take for granted. It is a fantastic opportunity for him but hopefully, it is not the last one. “How he conducts himself is really important but how he represents his family, his nation and his football club is something we are very confident about. Hopefully he gets a chance to show what he is about,” he said. While it is unlikely Fletcher will get too much game time in the United States, having the chance to travel with the squad will be a huge plus for his development, and he will no doubt be ready if he is required to help his country. Steve Clarke’s side will look to get out of a tricky-looking group that includes Brazil and Morocco, but will be hoping a good win against whipping boys Haiti will be enough to see them qualify as one of the best of the third-placed sides. From there, they will fancy themselves to cause an upset and potentially push on to the latter rounds, with Fletcher waiting in the wings to play his part and maybe have a magical moment of his own before he returns to Manchester. Official: United leader puts pen to paper on new deal, Wilcox is “delighted” to lock him down
Manchester United have confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton has signed a one-year contract extension. Dressing Room Leader Despite the fact that the 40-year-old shot-stopper has only played three times since re-joining the Red Devils in 2021, Heaton is considered a vital member of the dressing room. The Chester native, who came through the club’s academy, left Old Trafford in 2010 on a free transfer to join Cardiff City, having enjoyed a successful loan with the Welsh club. This was followed by spells with Bristol City, Burnley and Aston Villa, as well as three appearances for the England national team. Heaton then returned to M16 after his deal at Villa Park came to an end. Since then, he has assumed a leadership role in his capacity as third-choice ‘keeper, acting as much a coach as a player at this late stage of his career. Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim and now Michael Carrick have all been impressed with his attitude and authority in the dressing room, leading to successive contract renewals. With the current contract expiring this month, there had been some initial doubts as to whether an extension would be offered. But United have now confirmed he has put pen to paper on a one-year deal, meaning he will enter his 21st year as a professional footballer. ✍️ @TomHeatonGK has signed a new one-year contract at United! — Manchester United (@ManUtd) June 4, 2026 A Huge Honour Speaking to the club’s media team, Heaton revealed his pride at being given the chance to continue representing the Red Devils. “It is a huge honour to continue to represent Manchester United. You can feel the determination and ambition of everyone throughout the club to keep pushing for success. I am really excited to play my role in driving us forward and helping the group to compete for the biggest honours.” Sporting director Jason Wilcox mirrored these feelings: “We are delighted that Tom is continuing for another year. Everyone is well aware of the importance of his leadership and professionalism within the group. “Tom has played a key role in helping to support Senne [Lammens] throughout his first season in the Premier League; his constant dedication and mentality set a fantastic standard for our goalkeeping group.” Lammens, signed from Royal Antwerp last summer, has enjoyed a debut season in the Premier League, firmly grasping the No. 1 position with both hands. He has been the textbook definition of steady, a complete contrast to his predecessors. Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir are expected to be sold this summer, having been made surplus to requirements by the 23-year-old Belgian and their propensity for mistakes. Both have been linked with moves to Türkiye, where Onana has played on loan for Trabzonspor this season. If, as planned, they depart, a new No. 2 to back up Lammens will be needed, though there is the possibility of Radek Vitek returning from Bristol City to assume this role. Regardless, it will be Heaton who serves as the elder statesman of the goalkeeper unit, a safe pair of hands off the pitch to help guide his teammates on it.
