Manchester United are reportedly optimistic about a breakthrough in talks over the surrounding land at Old Trafford, which will finally get the stadium rebuild project underway. Ambitious plan In March last year, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe officially announced plans for United to leave Old Trafford and move to a brand new state-of-the-art 100,000-seater stadium. The stadium, which is set to be the biggest in the UK, is expected to cost around £2bn. Ratcliffe confirmed that United want to have an iconic stadium that is befitting of the club’s status as the biggest and most popular football team in the world. United’s released plans showcase an umbrella design that its architects say will harvest solar energy and rainwater. Three masts are also included, making the structure visible from 40 kilometres away. A few weeks ago, United announced that they are advancing efforts to secure funding for the project. Although some public money will go toward infrastructure and amenities, the government has made it clear that United must bear the cost of building the stadium itself. The main obstacle preventing the project from finally moving forward, however, involves the surrounding land owned by Freightliner. While that land is essential, the club and Freightliner are still far apart when it comes to its valuation. Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, previously indicated that compulsory purchase orders could be deployed to obtain the space should the two sides fail to agree on a deal. Now, the BBC report that United are more optimistic that an agreement can be struck. Old Trafford update The news outlet claims, “Manchester United officials are hoping to make a breakthrough in their negotiations with Freightliner over the land needed to build their proposed new stadium this summer.” “A deal with Freightliner is understood to be the key to unlocking the project. Until United know what land they can use, they cannot settle on a final design, which is needed to establish how much it will cost and to work out the best way to fund it.” On the small matter of a compulsory purchase order on the site, the BBC say that United are not too keen on this option as it could take years to effect. United’s intention is to continue playing at Old Trafford until the new stadium is fully ready for occupancy. It’s understood that significant parts of the stadium can be brought in by ship from various locations around the world, similar to what INEOS is currently doing at their Project One construction site in Antwerp. United braced for breakthrough in key talks that’ll finally put Old Trafford masterplan into motion – report

Carrick told he has a “ridiculous” talent waiting to be unleashed, 19-yo dynamo could save INEOS a fortune

Manchester United are accelerating plans to sign a new full-back amid concerns over Luke Shaw’s ability to stay fit, but a former Red Devil explains why there is already a perfect candidate at Old Trafford – Harry Amass. Reinforcing the Backline A major overhaul of Michael Carrick’s midfield unit is the priority this summer, with a deal already struck for Atalanta dynamo Ederson and talks underway to make West Ham starlet Mateus Fernandes the second recruit in the engine room. But INEOS are intent on bolstering the backline, given Patrick Dorgu‘s reinvention as a winger under Carrick has left Shaw as the only senior left-back in the squad. The 30-year-old Englishman, who narrowly missed out on the Three Lions’ squad for the World Cup, has enjoyed an unexpectedly injury-free campaign, starting every Premier League game for United. However, a relaxed schedule, owing to no European football and early exits from the cup competitions, will be ramped up next season as Champions League qualification was secured with a third-place finish. There is recognition amongst the club’s hierarchy that the increased workload of midweek fixtures means Shaw’s minutes will have to be carefully managed to avoid the type of relapse which has blighted his career in M16. This has led United to target a younger left-back, with Lewis Hall (Newcastle United) and Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly the two leading candidates, while Nathaniel Brown (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Alejandro Balde (Barcelona) are two options on the continent. But Charlie McNeill, a United academy graduate currently plying his trade for Sheffield Wednesday, believes Amass is a “ridiculous” talent who has the skillset to succeed at Old Trafford. “He’s good enough” A highly-rated prospect in Watford’s academy, Amass arrived in Manchester in 2023. The 19-year-old then broke into the senior side under Ruben Amorim last year, making his debut in a 3-0 win over Leicester City, and going on to rack up ten appearances in all competitions. After taking part in pre-season over the summer, a six-month loan to Sheffield Wednesday was considered the best path to continue his development, with the London native enjoying a superb spell in the Steel City during the first half of this season. He won back-to-back Player of the Month awards in November and December, offering a rare ray of sunshine in an otherwise miserable campaign for the Yorkshire side. In January, Amass returned to United, despite Wednesday’s desire to keep the youngster, and a new loan was instead agreed with Norwich City. A positive start at Carrow Road was then curtailed by a serious hamstring injury just a few days after making his debut for the Canaries, which ended his season. However, McNeill – a teammate at Hillsborough – was blown away by Amass’s impact: “He’s a joke, honestly. He’s so good, on the ball he’s ridiculous and he’s not shy of putting a tackle in.” The ex-United striker, who left the Red Devils in 2024 to join Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, is adamant Amass is “good enough to have a future” at Old Trafford, having witnessed his talents first hand this season. Final Thoughts Amass is an outstanding technician, with an ability on the ball that mirrors Shaw. There have been question marks over his physicality, but he has made major strides in this regard, as demonstrated by his hard work off the pitch during rehabilitation over the past few months. If McNeill’s assessment holds true, Amass could save INEOS a fortune in the market this summer as the primary target, Lewis Hall – a left-back with a very similar skillset – will cost as much as £70 million. Mason Greenwood has reached agreement to join another European club, United will be delighted – report

Former Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood is nearing an Olympique de Marseille exit. United sanctioned Greenwood’s permanent departure in the summer of 2024, selling him to Marseille for £26.6 million. The 24-year-old has rebuilt his career in the south of France, scoring a brilliant 48 goals in 81 appearances. However, he has endured a difficult few months at Marseille, especially following the departure of Roberto De Zerbi. Mason Greenwood agrees to join Fenerbahce Earlier this week, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Marseille are willing to listen to offers for Mason Greenwood, who has three years remaining on his contract. Greenwood emerged as the top transfer target for Fenerbahce’s two presidential candidates, Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi. The latter has now allegedly received the Englishman’s nod. According to Fabrizio Romano, Safi has claimed that he has “reached an agreement” with Greenwood. “The deal is ready until June 2030 if I win the elections” Safi added. The Italian journalist further reveals that Greenwood has liked and followed Safi on social media. AS Roma are also thought to be keen on signing Greenwood. Given Safi’s comments, the Serie A giants would have to act swiftly to secure the Marseille forward’s services. Manchester United want another striker It is believed United included a sizeable sell-on fee when they sold Greenwood to Marseille. As such, they could be set for a significant financial windfall. United could certainly do with extra cash this summer, as they also want to strengthen their attack. However, the major chunk of their transfer budget is likely to be allocated for their midfield revamp. Recently, The Peoples Person covered a report claiming five strikers, including Victor Osimhen and Jean-Philippe Mateta, are on United’s radar, with INEOS keen to replace Joshua Zirkzee with a more prolific goalscorer. United handed lifeline in pursuit of 23-yo PL gem as Euro giants cannot afford to agree a deal – report

Manchester United’s pursuit of Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers may have just become a little easier following a major decision from Bayern Munich. The Red Devils remain hot on the heels of the English forward, who is coming off another spectacular campaign at Villa Park. Rogers registered 14 goals and 12 assists in 55 appearances across all competitions for Unai Emery’s side in the 2025/26 season. His efforts were key to the Birmingham club’s fourth-place finish in the Premier League as well as their Europa League triumph. The 23 year old has been one of Aston Villa’s most consistent performers since arriving at the club from Middlesbrough in January 2024. Rogers worked under Michael Carrick for six months before his move to Villa Park, and the Englishman is reportedly eyeing a reunion at Old Trafford this year. United want more firepower this summer United are coming off a fruitful campaign in front of goal, with only champions Arsenal (71) and Manchester City (77) scoring more than the Red Devils (69) in the Premier League. INEOS’ systematic approach to squad reinforcements in recent summers has paid dividends so far. After strengthening the backline in 2024, the English giants turned their attention to the attack and goalkeeping departments last year. They invested over £200 million in Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens, and all four players have hit the ground running. However, that has not stopped United from planning further additions to their frontline this summer. While midfield remains their main area of focus, INEOS also want to add more flair and attacking threat to the squad ahead of a fixture-congested season. The Red Devils have been heavily reliant on Bruno Fernandes in recent years and want someone to share the creative burden with their skipper. Rogers’ ability to find the back of the net, his pace, and his dribbling ability make him a fine choice for the job, and perhaps also an option to eventually replace the Portuguese. The Englishman’s performances have already earned him admirers in the Premier League and abroad, with a recent report suggesting that Manchester City have an advantage in the race. Bundesliga insider Christian Falk has now provided an insight into Bayern Munich’s stance on a move for the Englishman, who has an £80 million price tag on his head. Bayern unlikely to move for Rogers In his column for FC Bayern Insider, Falk confirmed that Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany wants to take Morgan Rogers to the Allianz Arena. However, the journalist pointed out that a move is unlikely due to the player’s steep price tag. He wrote: “It is TRUE: Vincent Kompany is interested in Morgan Rogers, likes the Aston Villa star and would like to have him in Munich. However, the price tag is very high, and there are simply too many Premier League clubs following the Englishman.” “I don’t think they can afford the player. Bayern fans will remember the story with Xavi Simons when Kompany tried to get the Dutchman. The manager went to Tegernsee, where Uli Hoeneß lives, and the Bayern chief told him that the price is too high, but he can have a slice of pie. I think in this case, it could be another slice of pie for Vincent Kompany!” Final Thoughts Vincent Kompany’s desire to take Rogers to the Allianz Arena provides a glowing endorsement of the player’s abilities. While the finances of a deal make a move to Old Trafford difficult this summer, the Englishman could instantly improve the team if INEOS manage to secure his signature. INEOS reject Carrick’s plea to sign award-winning playmaker, PL rival “now in talks” over deal – David Ornstein

Manchester United are running out of time to heed Michael Carrick’s advice and make a move for Middlesbrough maestro Hayden Hackney after the latest developments on Merseyside. Midfield Maestro Despite facing the heart-breaking disappointment of a play-off final loss last month, Hackney will almost certainly be playing in the Premier League next season. Boro missed out on promotion after Hull City emerged 1-0 winners in the dying moments at Wembley, with injury limiting Hackney to coming on as a substitute late in the game. The 23-year-old midfielder had enjoyed a superb season up until this point, being crowned the Championship Player of the Year in April and nominated for the PFA Player of the Year yesterday. Six goals and eight assists tell the story of an attacking midfielder who is decisive in the final third, but it is his playmaking ability that truly makes him stand out from his peers. With only twelve months remaining on his contract at the Riverside Stadium, Middlesbrough are reluctantly resigned to losing their talismanic midfielder, though the Teessiders will play hardball should suitors look to make cut-price offers. United are admirers of the former England under-21 international, even prior to his former manager, Michael Carrick, returning as interim coach before being handed the reins permanently with a two-year deal. However, INEOS are understood to be prioritising other targets to bolster the engine room, despite Carrick continuing to actively champion Hackney as an option. Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur are two other Premier League clubs to have identified the Redcar native as an option, but it is Everton who are leading the charge to secure his signature. Everton pull ahead David Ornstein reveals Everton have opened talks to sign Hackney, with the player understood to be prioritising the Toffees over other interested clubs. 🚨 Everton now in talks with Middlesbrough over Hayden Hackney. 23yo midfielder keen on #EFC possibility – although ongoing interest from other clubs + #Boro prepared for Championship PoTY to enter final 12mnths unless suitable offer arrives @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/jSyjebc91i — David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) June 5, 2026 Tweet: “Everton now in talks with Middlesbrough over Hayden Hackney. 23yo midfielder keen on #EFC possibility – although ongoing interest from other clubs + #Boro prepared for Championship PoTY to enter final 12mnths unless suitable offer arrives.” Interestingly, The Athletic reporter also claims Everton are interested in Southampton box-to-box dynamo Shea Charles, another player being tracked by United as a high-upside option in midfield. During his time with the Saints, sporting director Jason Wilcox signed the 22-year-old Northern Ireland international from Manchester City for a potential fee of £15 million. Final Thoughts A last-minute hijack of Everton’s move for Hackney appears increasingly unlikely, despite Carrick’s pleas for a reunion at Old Trafford, with the focus elsewhere. A £38 million deal for Atalanta’s Ederson has already been agreed, while talks are ongoing for West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes, though the hunt for an elite No.6 to replace Casemiro goes on. United in talks to tie highly-rated coach down to new deal as he makes future decision report
Manchester United promoted former Under-21 boss Travis Binnion to the first team in January, adding him to Michael Carrick’s backroom staff. The move was well deserved; Binnion had been a key figure in the Red Devils’ academy system for seven years and was highly rated at the club. His promotion to the senior side turned out to be a masterstroke, with the coach hitting it off quickly with the squad and becoming a popular figure. Binnion’s efforts cannot be ignored in United’s third-place finish in the Premier League this season. Binnion’s departure from the Under-21 side, however, created a vacancy, and it was a stroke of luck that former Under-18 boss Adam Lawrence was available. United quickly brought their former coach back to Old Trafford and handed him the keys to the Under-21 side until the end of the season. Lawrence responded by guiding his team to second place in the Premier League 2 table. The Under-21 side subsequently marched to the Premier League 2 play-off final, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion. Lawrence’s efforts, though, appear to have convinced the Old Trafford hierarchy. Lawrence in talks for United stay According to the Manchester Evening News, Lawrence is in talks to extend his stay at the Theatre of Dreams. The report states: “Adam Lawrence was appointed as Under-21 interim manager in January, following a staff reshuffle that saw Travis Binnion step up to the first-team coaching team.” “Lawrence was the logical choice for the role, given he’d just left Newcastle and had previously managed United’s Under-18 side. The appointment was seen as mutually beneficial for both parties, and it’s now understood that talks are ongoing for Lawrence to continue in that position, as his contract at United expires at the end of the month.” The report reveals that both parties are eager to continue their association, adding: “The 40-year-old’s prior knowledge of United’s academy players and understanding of the youth system at Carrington have provided continuity, and both parties are discussing an extension of the relationship.” Lawrence was initially appointed as United’s Under-16 boss in January 2021 and was subsequently promoted to head of player development for the age groups from Under-13 to Under-16. He took charge of the Under-18 side in 2023 and famously inspired the team to a treble in the 2023/24 season. United likely to rely on academy graduates next season United added to their historic record of having an academy graduate in the matchday squad since 1937 this season, with Carrick’s arrival further strengthening the club’s faith in youth. Kobbie Mainoo, who was struggling for relevance under former head coach Ruben Amorim, became a key figure under Carrick. The English manager was regularly spotted at academy games and was previously hailed by club legend and former team-mate Wayne Rooney for revitalising the academy. With several talented youngsters such as Shea Lacey, Godwill Kukonki and the Fletcher twins knocking at the senior door, one can expect more involvement from the academy next season. INEOS are expected to invest heavily in the transfer market this summer, with several candidates from the Premier League and abroad linked with the club. However, United’s involvement in four competitions next season means that there will be enough opportunities for academy graduates to showcase their talents. Final Thoughts Carrick appears to be fully invested in United’s rich history of promoting youth and is likely to turn to the academy next season as well. Lawrence’s presence in the Under-21 setup, as such, will be a huge boost for the Red Devils and ensure that talented youngsters will continue to be given opportunities at the Theatre of Dreams. Representatives confident 80m sensation will join United despite interest from Real Madrid – report
Mateus Fernandes has become a sought-after name in the transfer market in a matter of weeks. West Ham United signed Fernandes from relegated Southampton in a £38 million deal last summer. The move did not change the Hammers’ fortunes, as they now find themselves in the Championship. However, Fernandes enjoyed an encouraging Premier League campaign, sparking the interest of Manchester United, who are keen to revamp their midfield. Europe’s biggest clubs chasing Mateus Fernandes Earlier this week, The Athletic claimed that Manchester United have held talks over a potential fee and wages for Mateus Fernandes. The all-action Portuguese midfielder, known for his exceptional technical ability and athleticism, has everything in his locker to complement Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park. However, in recent weeks, the likes of Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have also shown interest in Fernandes. Furthermore, earlier today, Spanish publication AS reported that Real Madrid are seriously considering signing the West Ham youngster, as Jose Mourinho admires his work ethic. United already look set to miss out on Elliot Anderson to Manchester City. As such, the recent updates surrounding Fernandes have left the Red Devils supporters a bit worried. However, figures involved in the pursuit remain relaxed. Manchester United in driving seat for Mateus Fernandes According to Theatre of Red’s Shaun Connolly, Manchester United are “aware of the widespread interest” in Mateus Fernandes, “though some exaggerations are being publicised.” It is understood talks are ongoing for the 21-year-old star and “representatives remain confident of a deal.” “He is a player who is really admired by many at Old Trafford,” added Connolly. United line up ambitious plan that is set to unlock windfall of unexpected riches – report
Manchester United are considering options to refinance a massive debt that is due next year, a new report has claimed. Glazers out? Earlier this week, a bombshell report from Bloomberg claimed that certain members of United’s controversial owners, the Glazer family, are keen on selling their stakes in the club after 21 years. The Glazers have been deeply unpopular among the fanbase ever since their leveraged buyout of the club. In addition to extracting money via dividends and failing to inject any investment, they have burdened the club with substantial debt and allowed both the playing squad and infrastructure to deteriorate. The result has been that United have fallen behind their rivals, with standards both on and off the pitch deteriorating. United fans have staged massive protests against the Glazers for years, yet only when INEOS chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe took operational control in 2024 did things start to head somewhat in the right direction. Still, the Glazers’ continued presence is a sore point. Bloomberg revealed that some factions of the Glazers have been quietly plotting their exit for months. It’s said that they want to cash out and finally walk away. The six Glazer brothers collectively own a 51 per cent stake in the Red Devils. Now, the same news outlet states that United are exploring options to refinance $425 million of debt set to mature next year through the private placement market. United’s plan Bloomberg write that the 20-time English champions are in early discussions with banks regarding the matter but nothing has been finalised yet. The club is refinancing debt from 2015, which comes with a fixed interest rate of 3.79%. Thanks to high demand, the new funding may hit $500 million, providing Michael Carrick’s side with additional funds beyond the refinancing. United are gearing up for a huge transfer window. Bolstering the midfield is believed to be the priority. Already, a full agreement has been struck for Atalanta’s Ederson to move to Old Trafford. At least one more midfield signing is expected. Other positions thought to be on the agenda include striker, left-back and left-wing.
