Former United star chastised by Sir Alex taken to hospital after bizarre injury – report

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has suffered a shock injury despite retiring over 15 years ago. Career The Australian first played for Manchester United in the 1990-1991 season before leaving for Sydney United, and then returned to the Premier League with Aston Villa. Bosnich spent seven seasons in Birmingham before returning to Old Trafford in 1999 to replace the legendary Peter Schmeichel. He played 35 times in the 1999-2000 season as United retained the title but did not play at all for the club in 2000-2001 before being sold to Chelsea. The keeper was famously called out by Sir Alex Ferguson for turning up to pre-season overweight. Bosnich finally retired in 2009 while playing back in Australia for Sydney Olympic. Post-playing career The Australian has had a successful punditry career in his native country since retiring and is a regular on Fox Sports Australia. Bosnich also had his health problems when he had to pull out of Champions League coverage work on Australian TV as he was rushed to hospital for surgery. Another health incident The Daily Beirut reports that Bosnich has once again needed to be rushed to surgery, but this time due to an injury. It was reported that, “a ruptured quadricep has forced former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich to prepare for surgery after an injury sustained during a celebrity penalty shootout event held ahead of the World Cup.” The article continues, “while playing as goalkeeper, Bosnich faced a penalty kick from former AFL executive Gillon McLachlan. Though he successfully saved the shot, Bosnich immediately cried out in pain and fell to the ground.” The onlookers originally thought it was a joke and, whilst the Australian was able to stand, he moved to the sidelines and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment. “We’ll see what happens”: United midfield target throws door open to potential switch to Old Trafford this summer

Manchester United are on the hunt for midfielders this summer. Midfield search They have already secured the signing of Ederson from Atalanta. The Brazilian will join the club in July. The Red Devils are also said to be in talks with Matheus Fernandes at West Ham United regarding a second midfield signing. Nonetheless, with a light midfield to start with and Casemiro leaving, the Red Devils could well add three summer signings to the midfield department. There have been links to players such as Aurelian Tchouameni, Sandro Tonali, Elliot Anderson and Alex Scott. Shea Charles United have also been reported to have an interest in Southampton’s young midfielder, Shea Charles. The Northern Ireland international has already played 34 times for his country at just 22 years old. He was part of Manchester City’s academy but left for Southampton in 2023. United are said to be keen on the player and have been watching his rise this season. Charles came to national attention in England when he scored the winning goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals and also in the Championship play-off semi-final. Future The Irishman spoke to The Belfast Telegraph after Northern Ireland’s 1-0 win over Guinea and discussed his club future. When asked about his future plans, he stated, “at the moment I am focused on Southampton and the next campaign. Obviously we’ll see what happens when we go back into camp or pre-season.” He then also added, “I’m really looking forward to going back to Southampton.” Whilst it seems there is no doubt Charles would be content to stay at the Saints, his comments certainly do not outright deny that there is a chance the energetic midfielder could leave this summer. Highly-rated United talent adds another jewel to his crown with important international milestone

Manchester United youngster Amir Ibragimov has hit a significant international milestone in his career. International rise Ibragimov has been highly spoken about over the years due to his incredible talent and rise through the ranks at United. He is considered one of the best talents currently emerging out of Carrington, and has been tipped to go on and achieve great things in future. His progress has been somewhat hindered by injuries but no one can doubt his potential and impact when fully fit and available. Last month, Ibragimov was called up by Russia for their post-season international meetings against Egypt, Burkina Faso and Trinidad and Tobago. The call-up came just after he returned from a five-month spell on the sidelines with a broken foot. Although Ibragimov was also eligible to represent England, he appears to have opted for Russia, having accepted their call-up request. The 18-year-old took another step forward as he made his debut for Russia during their 3-0 victory over Burkina Faso on Friday. Top international achievement Ibragimov was named on the bench by manager Valeriy Karpin. He was brought on in the 60th minute in place of Aleksey Miranchuk. The United talent slotted on the right side of the attack. During the time he was on the pitch, Ibragimov successfully found a teammate with 25 of the 26 passes he attempted (96% individual pass accuracy). The teenager touched the ball 28 times and attempted one dribble. He also contributed one tackle and as many recoveries. 1 goal, 1 assist: United Women star’s electric form continues in World Cup qualification

Manchester United Women had numerous players in international action throughout the course of Friday. Three United stars were called up for England’s giant matchup versus Spain in World Cup qualification. Ella Toone In a repeat of the Euro 2025 final and the World Cup final, Jess Park and Maya Le Tissier were left on the bench. Ella Toone started on the right of midfield but made little impact as England were crushed 4-0 by Spain. She was substituted after 59 minutes and replaced by Beth Mead in the England attack. Safia Middleton-Patel United’s second-choice keeper was called up for Welsh duty and was in the starting line-up for her nation’s 1-1 draw with Montenegro. Mared Griffiths started on the bench, but the youngster came on in the 62nd minute and could not help her side find a winner. Melvine Malard United’s star Frenchwoman was critical in France’s 2-0 win over Poland. She opened the scoring for her side early in the second half when she was played in on goal and her shot deflected into the back of the net. Malard then played a lovely one-two with Sandy Baltimore, who smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Julia Zigiotti Sweden fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Denmark in their World Cup qualification campaign. Julia Zigiotti started in midfield and Anna Sandberg at left-back for the Swedes. Both played 90 minutes, but Hanna Lundkvist was an unused substitute in the match. Dominique Janssen Janssen suffered heartbreak as the Netherlands lost 3-2 in a tight match to Ireland. The United star scored a penalty in the 70th minute to equalise, but the Irish fought back to secure a priceless win. Former United player Aoife Mannion was on the winning side for Ireland in an impressive victory. Lea Schuller United’s two strikers started against each other as Lea Schuller led the line for Germany and Elisabeth Terland did the same for Norway. Both were substituted in the second half and neither could find the back of the net in Germany’s 2-0 win. Lisa Naalsund also started in midfield for the Norwegians. United Women stars will once again be in action on Tuesday for the final round of fixtures before the summer break. AC Milan winger Rafael Leao has indicated where he would like to end up, even as he continues to be strongly linked with a move to Manchester United. Leao interest United have been credited with an interest in Leao, with his time at Milan looking like it has increasingly come to an end. Over the past few months, he has endured a fractured relationship with the Milan faithful and certain key figures at the club. Milan have previously resisted overtures for the rapid attacker, but they are now willing to offload him. A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that he could be available for a cut-price fee of £43-50m. To put this into context, Milan were once demanding €175m for the Portugal international. In addition to United, Leao has also been mentioned to be on Arsenal’s radar. Last week, the player put his suitors on alert by clearly stating that he wishes to leave Milan in the pursuit of a fresh adventure. He has made another statement, naming the Premier League and La Liga as his preferred next destinations. New statement Leao told Portuguese news outlet Sport TV, “I need a new challenge. I already won two trophies in Italy and have been there for a while.” “The league is evolving, but for my style of football, I think the Premier League or La Liga would make more of my talent, as a player.” He continued, “If a Premier League opportunity were to come along, I would be very happy. I think that I can put my talent up against the players there, who are of a very high level.” “Playing in that kind of a league really gets the best out of a player.” Leao netted 10 goals for Milan across 31 appearances last season, including nine in Serie A. He helped the Rossoneri finish fifth in the Italian top flight, just missing out on qualification to next season’s Champions League. Carrick to get special coaching help next season with United considering two names for the job – report

Not only is the first team set for changes, but Manchester United also have plans to upgrade their coaching staff over the summer. After Michael Carrick agreed to take charge on a permanent basis, INEOS followed this up by offering all members of his coaching team new contracts, just as the head coach wanted. However, the co-owners are mulling over bringing in a new coach to supplement the current team. According to The Manchester Evening News, the new coach is likely to be someone with set-piece training experience. Another coach, this time with set-piece experience Currently, Jonny Evans is in charge of that department, as both Bruno Fernandes and Patrick Dorgu referred to after the final game of the season against Brighton & Hove Albion. Former United set-piece coach Andreas Georgson is among the names being looked at. The Swedish coach had joined under Erik ten Hag, but was ultimately sidelined by Ruben Amorim before his departure last summer. He subsequently joined Tottenham Hotspur under Thomas Frank, but that stint did not go according to plan and he was sacked alongside Frank. Carrick has thoughts of his own, with the report claiming former Middlesbrough coach Aaron Danks is one name he is pushing for. Carrick pushing for former colleague INEOS do not want to disturb the current balance by bringing in a new face without proper consultation, which explains why they are adopting a wait-and-watch policy for now. “United secured all of Michael Carrick’s coaching staff on new two-year deals when the 44-year-old penned his own contract extension and club sources are delighted with the impact they have made. “But one more addition is considered likely ahead of a much more intense schedule next season, and it’s likely to be someone with a set-piece speciality. A return for Andreas Georgson is one possibility, with the Dane leaving Tottenham when Thomas Frank was sacked. “United officials are aware of how tight-knit the coaching staff have become under Carrick, however, and there is a desire to get the appointment right to complement that group, rather than risk upsetting the balance. No decision is likely to be made just yet. INEOS or Carrick’s choice, only time will tell “One coach Carrick does know well is Aaron Danks. The 42-year-old Brummie was on his coaching staff at Middlesbrough and became more common to a worldwide audience while patrolling the touchline during Bayern Munich’s 5-4 Champions League semi-final first leg defeat to PSG, when Vincent Kompany was suspended.” Who ends up arriving remains to be seen, but Michael Carrick will need all the help he can get with the 20-time English league champions set to compete on four fronts in the next campaign. Paul Pogba says exactly what he thinks about United’s decision to appoint Carrick permanently

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has shared his candid view on the club’s decision to retain Michael Carrick permanently. Turnaround The 2025/26 season was a positive one for United as they finished in third place and secured Champions League football after a two-year absence. It started in uncertainty and inconsistency under Ruben Amorim, who was dismissed and replaced by Carrick at the start of the year. Carrick’s appointment, initially on an interim basis, was the spark that turned things around. The United legend took charge of 17 Premier League games, registering 12 wins, three draws and just two losses. In a very short period, Carrick introduced an attacking, front-footed approach that resonated with both the fans and the squad. For the first time in ages, there is real optimism that United are heading in the right direction and can build momentum, particularly if they have a strong summer transfer window. While United insisted that they would not make a knee-jerk decision and would only hire a manager upon considering all available and suitable options, it was clear to all that the job was Carrick’s to lose. This was finally made official last month. Speaking to Sky Sports in a brief interview, Pogba expressed support for Carrick and seemed to agree with the majority sentiment that it was the right decision to keep him. Pogba’s verdict The Frenchman told Sky, “I think he’s doing a great job and he did it also at the time when he was the assistant of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.” “He’s a great guy, he has experience, he was a great player, and he has a very good connection with the players, you could see it when he took the team.” “I think it’s going to be good for United.” “I wish them the best, obviously, for him and all the staff and the players.” Pogba made 233 appearances for United across his two spells. “I think about that every single day”: Dalot lays down ambitious marker as he backs United to achieve big goal

Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has outlined his burning desire to win the biggest trophies in club football. For The Player’s Tribune, Dalot covered a wide range of subjects, including how he came to sign for United under Jose Mourinho, his formative years in football and early days at Porto, his close relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and much more. Jose Mourinho Dalot reveals that he first heard from Mourinho while at a cafe in Northern Portugal. 19 at the time, he was with his friend, who informed him that the United manager wanted to speak with him. “A little later, his phone rings, and he passes it to me. I grab it and run out to the other side of the road. When I pick up, it is him. José Mourinho.” “And he is saying everything I want to hear. I’m talented. I’m strong. “I just needed one test,” he says. He was analysing me when Porto played Liverpool at Anfield a few weeks earlier, because I was up against Sadio Mané. ‘You stopped the best winger in the world. Now you come play for me.’” “I hang up, and I see that my friend is looking at me through the café window, like HOW DID IT GO? I flatten my hand and raise it towards the sky, like a plane leaving the runway. We’re taking off, brother. We’re going to Manchester United.” But the move was thrown into doubt when Dalot sustained a knee injury, which would keep him sidelined for five months. He says that he thought the issue would make the transfer collapse but Mourinho texted him, “Diogo, I don’t care about the injury. You’ll be out for five months. I’m signing you for the next 10 years.” Dalot joined United in June 2018, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract with an option to extend for a further year. United forked out around £19m to secure his services. United difficulties Mourinho was eventually sacked in December after a string of poor performances and results. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer arrived as his replacement, and this translated into reduced playing time for Dalot. The Portugal international was subsequently loaned out to AC Milan. “I was ashamed of sitting in the stands. We would be watching the game in the directors’ box, and the fans right next to us would ask me, ‘Why are you not playing?’ I didn’t even know what to say. I was not injured. Just not selected. I was so embarrassed that I started going down to the dressing room to watch the game on the TV alone.” “My mother had moved over with me from Portugal, but when I got home I barely even said ‘Hello.’ I would go downstairs, fire up the PlayStation, put Paranoid on repeat, and start thinking and thinking, ‘I used to play for Porto. I used to be one of the big talents. Now I’m not even on the bench. I’m wasting my years. I’m losing time. What am I doing here?” “Sometimes the manager just wants a different profile, but I thought it was all my fault. Since I’m not playing, I have to do more. I began training like crazy.” “Already in preseason, I was checking the running stats after each session to make sure I was the fastest. In the gym, some of the records are still mine. You know when you’re on a plane with no Wi-Fi and you just scroll through your phone? I still have 200 clips of me training. I would watch them at home, because I had no game footage to fire me up. After one month, my body simply broke down.” “Hip injury, six weeks out. And yes, I know what you’re thinking, ‘Diogo, why couldn’t you just chill a little?’ Honestly, I wish I could. But you have to understand how I was raised.” According to Dalot, training became his game. He was determined to be as good as possible in every practice. He also notes that even when he went on loan to Milan, the intention was always to come back and make it at Old Trafford. Relationship with Ronaldo Dalot explains that he first met Ronaldo in the national team setup. Although he was nervous, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner made him feel comfortable and the two hit it off thanks to their shared desire to always improve and be in the best possible shape. But their relationship elevated to another level when Ronaldo made a sensational return to United in the summer of 2031. The defender writes for The Players’ Tribune, “That season with Cristiano was when I really started to grow as a player and as a person. I lost count of the number of predictions he got right, because he knows so well what it takes to go to the top. If anyone skipped a set in the gym, he would notice. We had a striker here who did really well for us in his first season, but Cristiano said, ‘He’s not gonna make it here.’” “I said, ‘Cris, he scored two goals today!’ He said, ‘Yeah, but he didn’t have the fire to go for the third.’ When your rival is Messi, nothing is ever enough.” Dalot added, “Even now, when I see him at the national team, he’ll go, ‘Diogo, I’m trying something new.’ A medical device. A recovery treatment. A mental model. We call them mechanisms. ‘Yo, Cris, new mechanisms. What have you got for me?’” “To me, it’s totally crazy that anyone could even debate whether he should play at the World Cup. Is he running like he’s 22? No. Is he scoring a goal per game? Yes. Does he make us all better? Yes. The guy is 41. He doesn’t need to be there, playing with people who are young enough to be his kids, but he is.” “Every time you meet him, you leave a little wiser. After I met Cristiano, my goal was not just to work as much as possible, but to stay in the best possible state mentally and physically. And at United, trust me, the mental game is the hardest one.” Lofty ambitions On what he hopes to achieve at United, Dalot explains, “A few months later, we were walking up the stairs at Wembley. I turned to look out at the red half of crazy fans singing and cheering, and I remember thinking, ‘I want this feeling, again and again.’” “I flew right to Monaco with Claudia to watch the F1 Grand Prix. At the marina, this guy came up to us and said, ‘Thank you.’ I said, ‘I said, ‘Thank you for what?’ He said, ‘For the FA Cup. That meant the world to me.’” “If that’s winning the FA Cup at United, imagine winning the Premier League. Imagine winning the Champions League. I think about that every single day.” He further states, “When I sat in that café in Braga eight years ago, I could never have imagined that all of this would happen. I have played nearly 250 games for this club. The hardest periods have been very hard. There have been times here where everyone is killing the club, everyone is saying the place is ruined, the worst people are working here, the worst players are here, the club is a mess. When you hear it enough, and you know that you are a part of it, it hurts.” “But I know that this place is better than when I arrived. I can see it behind the scenes. I can see it in the way people talk. I can see it from the progress we’ve made this season. This club will win again, 100%.” “I cannot go into training every day without believing that. If you don’t, this is not the club for you. I’m reminded of it every time I drive into Carrington, and I see the big red letters over the car park. MANCHESTER UNITED.” “Then I walk down the corridor, and I see all these legends lifting big trophies. One day. Soon. I’m sure of it.” For now, Dalot’s focus is on winning the World Cup with Portugal this summer. United braced for breakthrough in key talks that’ll finally put Old Trafford masterplan into motion – report

Manchester United are reportedly optimistic about a breakthrough in talks over the surrounding land at Old Trafford, which will finally get the stadium rebuild project underway. Ambitious plan In March last year, United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe officially announced plans for United to leave Old Trafford and move to a brand new state-of-the-art 100,000-seater stadium. The stadium, which is set to be the biggest in the UK, is expected to cost around £2bn. Ratcliffe confirmed that United want to have an iconic stadium that is befitting of the club’s status as the biggest and most popular football team in the world. United’s released plans showcase an umbrella design that its architects say will harvest solar energy and rainwater. Three masts are also included, making the structure visible from 40 kilometres away. A few weeks ago, United announced that they are advancing efforts to secure funding for the project. Although some public money will go toward infrastructure and amenities, the government has made it clear that United must bear the cost of building the stadium itself. The main obstacle preventing the project from finally moving forward, however, involves the surrounding land owned by Freightliner. While that land is essential, the club and Freightliner are still far apart when it comes to its valuation. Andy Burnham, the Mayor of Greater Manchester, previously indicated that compulsory purchase orders could be deployed to obtain the space should the two sides fail to agree on a deal. Now, the BBC report that United are more optimistic that an agreement can be struck. Old Trafford update The news outlet claims, “Manchester United officials are hoping to make a breakthrough in their negotiations with Freightliner over the land needed to build their proposed new stadium this summer.” “A deal with Freightliner is understood to be the key to unlocking the project. Until United know what land they can use, they cannot settle on a final design, which is needed to establish how much it will cost and to work out the best way to fund it.” On the small matter of a compulsory purchase order on the site, the BBC say that United are not too keen on this option as it could take years to effect. United’s intention is to continue playing at Old Trafford until the new stadium is fully ready for occupancy. It’s understood that significant parts of the stadium can be brought in by ship from various locations around the world, similar to what INEOS is currently doing at their Project One construction site in Antwerp. Manchester United are accelerating plans to sign a new full-back amid concerns over Luke Shaw’s ability to stay fit, but a former Red Devil explains why there is already a perfect candidate at Old Trafford – Harry Amass. Reinforcing the Backline A major overhaul of Michael Carrick’s midfield unit is the priority this summer, with a deal already struck for Atalanta dynamo Ederson and talks underway to make West Ham starlet Mateus Fernandes the second recruit in the engine room. But INEOS are intent on bolstering the backline, given Patrick Dorgu‘s reinvention as a winger under Carrick has left Shaw as the only senior left-back in the squad. The 30-year-old Englishman, who narrowly missed out on the Three Lions’ squad for the World Cup, has enjoyed an unexpectedly injury-free campaign, starting every Premier League game for United. However, a relaxed schedule, owing to no European football and early exits from the cup competitions, will be ramped up next season as Champions League qualification was secured with a third-place finish. There is recognition amongst the club’s hierarchy that the increased workload of midweek fixtures means Shaw’s minutes will have to be carefully managed to avoid the type of relapse which has blighted his career in M16. This has led United to target a younger left-back, with Lewis Hall (Newcastle United) and Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly the two leading candidates, while Nathaniel Brown (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Alejandro Balde (Barcelona) are two options on the continent. But Charlie McNeill, a United academy graduate currently plying his trade for Sheffield Wednesday, believes Amass is a “ridiculous” talent who has the skillset to succeed at Old Trafford. “He’s good enough” A highly-rated prospect in Watford’s academy, Amass arrived in Manchester in 2023. The 19-year-old then broke into the senior side under Ruben Amorim last year, making his debut in a 3-0 win over Leicester City, and going on to rack up ten appearances in all competitions. After taking part in pre-season over the summer, a six-month loan to Sheffield Wednesday was considered the best path to continue his development, with the London native enjoying a superb spell in the Steel City during the first half of this season. He won back-to-back Player of the Month awards in November and December, offering a rare ray of sunshine in an otherwise miserable campaign for the Yorkshire side. In January, Amass returned to United, despite Wednesday’s desire to keep the youngster, and a new loan was instead agreed with Norwich City. A positive start at Carrow Road was then curtailed by a serious hamstring injury just a few days after making his debut for the Canaries, which ended his season. However, McNeill – a teammate at Hillsborough – was blown away by Amass’s impact: “He’s a joke, honestly. He’s so good, on the ball he’s ridiculous and he’s not shy of putting a tackle in.” The ex-United striker, who left the Red Devils in 2024 to join Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer, is adamant Amass is “good enough to have a future” at Old Trafford, having witnessed his talents first hand this season. Final Thoughts Amass is an outstanding technician, with an ability on the ball that mirrors Shaw. There have been question marks over his physicality, but he has made major strides in this regard, as demonstrated by his hard work off the pitch during rehabilitation over the past few months. If McNeill’s assessment holds true, Amass could save INEOS a fortune in the market this summer as the primary target, Lewis Hall – a left-back with a very similar skillset – will cost as much as £70 million.
