Manchester United have well and truly turned the head of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. United first made contact with Baleba last summer, but Brighton’s £100 million price tag proved to be prohibitive. However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that United secured an agreement “on personal terms” with Baleba, and the agreement remains valid for this summer. Carlos Baleba speaking to Manchester United stars Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba remains as keen as ever to join Manchester United. According to The Sun, Baleba has discussed the possibility of joining United with some of the club’s players. The 22-year-old star “spoke to Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha after their 3-0 victory at the Amex on the final day of the season.” “Cunha has been supportive of Baleba in the past, having played against him twice for Wolves,” the report adds. Baleba is also thought to be close with fellow Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo, while compatriot Andre Onana “encouraged Baleba to pursue a move to United last year before his loan switch to Trabzonspor.” Brighton remain firm The former Lille prodigy, who is known for his athleticism, impressed against United in May. However, he endured a difficult last campaign after his failed move to Old Trafford. Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler admitted, “there might be some noises in his head,” a reference to United’s contact. The youngster was handed only 23 starts in the Premier League last term. Gary Neville explains why he has sometimes “not got it right” when covering Man United games
Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville’s move into the media after his retirement from the game has thrust him into the public spotlight in a significant way over the past decade. Neville’s quick wit and ability to describe the game to viewers earned him rave reviews in his early days on various television channels, making him one of the most coveted pundits in the game. However, in recent years, Manchester United fans have grown frustrated with the eight-time Premier League winner who, in his attempts to show neutrality, tends to go too far with his criticism of the team he claims to hold so dearly to his heart. Neville opens up on fan backlash An absolute cult hero in his playing days, Neville was adored by the Old Trafford faithful, with his passion for the badge evident every time he pulled on the red shirt. However, since the transition from player to pundit, the former defender has tested United fans’ patience with comments during and after matches, something he discussed with former teammate Rio Ferdinand in a recent interview. As reported by The Mirror, Ferdinand said he was asked by fans to quiz Neville on the issue of unfair criticism toward United on his Rio Ferdinand Presents Podcast, to which Neville gave a robust response but admitted to finding the balance tough. “It’s a balance though Rio, isn’t it? It’s like, do I want City to win the league? I absolutely don’t want City anywhere near the league title. I’ll say it on here now. I don’t want City or Liverpool to ever win a game of football again. I genuinely don’t. But do you know something, to be a professional and do the very best, sometimes I maybe don’t get the balance right with United,” said Neville. The former England international added that he finds United games the “hardest to do” in his role in the media and says he would have no issue with stepping back from certain games if Sky felt it was appropriate for him to do so. People might think that I’m more critical of United when they don’t play well. Sometimes, over the last maybe ten years, the balance, maybe I’ve not got it right. If they said ‘to me don’t cover United games for Sky, let me just sit in the stand and watch them.’ I’d say yeah, all day long but I still do the games. It’s difficult,” he said. Time for change? Neville has also faced backlash from supporters for political comments he has made in recent times, all of which seem to be playing a role in some turning their backs on the man who represented United over 600 times. Whilst Neville says he would not mind not featuring on United games, there is little to no chance of Sky making that a reality given his profile on the media circuit. United fans will have to wait and see if their former hero will go a little easier on Michael Carrick’s men next season, with the new campaign promising to find out exactly what the newly appointed permanent head coach is made of. In Neville’s defence, there has been much to malign with how United have gone about their business both on and off the pitch in the last decade, but there is no doubt the 51-year-old could be a lot more encouraging to certain players and coaches who have struggled to produce under the pressure of the Theatre of Dreams that he should know so well. United’s pursuit of “unbelievable” English wizard triggers staggering response by Bournemouth – Ben Jacobs

With six days until the transfer window opens, Manchester United have already come storming out of the gate as INEOS look to overhaul Michael Carrick’s squad. Midfield Rebuild The Red Devils are planning a major revamp in midfield this summer, with Casemiro‘s departure already confirmed and Manuel Ugarte potentially on the chopping block if a buyer can be found. This leaves Kobbie Mainoo as the only central midfielder at Old Trafford with a long-term future, given Bruno Fernandes has been restored to his rightful throne as the team’s No.10. While reinforcements on the left-hand side, whether at full-back or on the wing, and better squad options in goal and up front are also on the agenda, fixing the stalling engine room is the priority. A £39 million deal with Atalanta has already been struck for Ederson, fending off interest from Atletico Madrid and other top clubs in Italy to secure the 26-year-old Brazilian’s signature. Talks are ongoing for West Ham starlet Mateus Fernandes, though the Hammers’ exorbitant valuation – said to be as high as £85m – is complicating matters. The 21-year-old Portugal international is understood to be keen on a move to M16, considering United’s captain and his namesake a personal idol. A host of other midfielders have been identified as alternatives, however, with exploratory talks held to assess the availability of Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Adam Wharton and Joao Gomes. Bournemouth hike their price Alex Scott, Bournemouth’s 22-year-old maestro, is another option United have made advances towards. The England under-21 international has enjoyed a superb season at the heart of Andoni Iraola’s side, helping propel the club to European qualification for the first time in their 127-year history. Alex Scott 25/26 season stats Matches playedGoalsAssistsMins played 39413062 Source: transfermarkt.com A well-rounded midfielder, capable of helping knit play together and initiating his manager’s aggressive press, Scott was hailed as an “unbelievable player” by Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The Cherries are keen to avoid a repeat of last summer’s mass exodus of their best talent, having lost four members of their back five in one window. Antoine Semenyo’s £65m switch to Manchester City in January has only compounded this intention. Scott has two years remaining on his deal at the Vitality Stadium, having joined from Bristol City for £25m in 2023. Talks are underway to agree an extension, though he is believed to be keeping his options open. Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also admirers of the Guernsey native, though Liverpool are now believed to be frontrunners after appointing Iraola to replace Arne Slot, who was axed last week after a torrid campaign at Anfield. In response to this growing interest, Ben Jacobs reveals Bournemouth have slapped down an asking price of £80m to ward off Scott’s suitors, with hope he will put pen to paper on a new deal, which could include a release clause. Bournemouth owner Bill Foley is intent on keeping Scott with hope he’ll sign a new contract, likely with a release clause. This was the case when Antoine Semenyo extended last summer.” Final Thoughts Scott is a highly-regarded operator at Old Trafford, with Carrick understood to be a big fan, having faced him while manager of Middlesbrough during their shared time in the Championship. United have made initial enquiries to gauge a potential swoop, though their focus appears to lie elsewhere for now. If contract talks stall and Scott agitates for a move, a pursuit could be reignited, though Bournemouth’s £80m asking price will prove a prohibitive hurdle that no club will meet, regardless of how much they rate the midfielder. United strike gold in pursuit of incredible Newcastle star as he greenlights Old Trafford switch – report

Manchester United are ramping up their pursuit of Lewis Hall after receiving encouragement that a deal is possible for the Newcastle United star, according to a new report. Wing Wizard The Red Devils are focusing on a major revamp in midfield this summer, as Casemiro will depart this month, while INEOS are prepared to cut their losses on Manuel Ugarte should a suitable offer arrive for the 25-year-old Uruguayan. Reinforcements on the left-hand side are also expected, though the club are considering options at full-back and on the wing. A decision on the long-term future of Patrick Dorgu will significantly influence which position is prioritised. Michael Carrick has utilised Dorgu as a winger to great success since taking the helm in January, with the 21-year-old Denmark international averaging a goal contribution every 71 minutes under him. If he remains in this more advanced role, offering a different profile to Matheus Cunha on the left, it will leave Luke Shaw as the only senior left-back at Carrick’s disposal. United have identified Hall, 21, as a leading target to provide both competition to Shaw as well as a long-term successor to the 30-year-old Englishman. Sporting director Jason Wilcox is understood to be a huge fan of the youngster. Hall is open to Old Trafford Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of their left-back, having already lost Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for £70 million – a move which significantly impedes Marcus Rashford’s hopes of remaining in Catalonia. A difficult campaign at St James’ Park, both on and off the pitch, has left the Magpies susceptible to raids for their best players, however. Midfield maestro Sandro Tonali, linked with a move to Arsenal and both Manchester clubs, is believed to be angling for an exit. TEAMtalk now reveals Hall is also looking to leave Tyneside, with the England international understood to be open to joining the Red Devils this summer. Sources indicate Hall is “keen on a move to Old Trafford” as he views it as a “significant step in his development”. The prospect of playing in the Champions League again also “greatly appeals.” United have initiated positive contacts with his camp, though formal talks are yet to begin. INEOS are aware how difficult it will be to strike a deal with a major rival, but getting the player’s buy-in is a significant step. Final Thoughts As a young homegrown talent, with Premier League and Champions League pedigree, Hall ticks every box United’s hierarchy are looking for this summer. There are few better prospects at left-back in Europe not already plying their trade for an elite club. If the Red Devils can pull off a blockbuster raid that strengthens Carrick’s squad while weakening Eddie Howe’s, it is almost a no-brainer of a signing, particularly as it would enable Dorgu to maintain his new lease of life further forward. INEOS prepared to negotiate 60m deal to land incredible 5’10” star who wants United move – report
Manchester United may have to become embroiled in lengthy negotiations to secure the services of Mateus Fernandes. It has been widely reported that Fernandes is keen to join United, who have already made a move for the Portuguese midfielder. Following West Ham United’s relegation to the Championship, many expected this to be a straightforward pursuit. However, the chaos in east London may well impact plans in Manchester. Manchester United want to sign Mateus Fernandes for around £60m According to Claret and Hugh, there is likely to be very little transfer activity happening at West Ham following the club’s co-owner David Sullivan’s departure. The Hammers need to raise upwards of £100 million in sales. However, at the moment, there is little clarity over who is in charge of leading negotiations for West Ham in the summer transfer window. It is claimed Manchester United believe they can open discussions for Mateus Fernandes at £60 million. United are not prepared to meet that asking price and “there is an expectation that, over time, that fee should fall.” However, the Red Devils have no desire to put all their eggs in the Fernandes basket. United continue to chase Nottingham Forest’s £105m-rated Elliot Anderson. Furthermore, they have held talks on Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton among others. Given the asking prices being thrown around in the Premier League, Ederson for a fee of around £35m is already starting to look like a shrewd acquisition. United’s forgotten man eyeing exciting new role under Carrick, it would save INEOS a fortune – report

Ahead of next season, Manchester United are expected to reshape their midfield into one capable of challenging on multiple fronts. There is a desire to replace Casemiro, who is leaving as a free agent, while the club also needs to upgrade on Manuel Ugarte, who has failed to click at the heart of United’s engine room. As a result, two, if not three, midfield signings may be needed to satisfy United’s transfer needs. Ederson closing in on move The Ederson deal is all but agreed; it is only a matter of when the announcement comes. With the Brazilian expected to be the first of several midfield arrivals, all eyes are on who follows him. Mateus Fernandes next There is talk of United now working on a deal for Mateus Fernandes, with ambitious West Ham United demanding as much as £80 million to sanction his move to Manchester. Should Fernandes arrive for such a staggering figure, it will be interesting to see whether United still push for another marquee midfield signing. Mason Mount eyes key role in Man United’s midfield rebuild As per The Sun, “Mason Mount, whose only starts under Carrick came away to Sunderland and Brighton in midfield last month, is willing to continue in that deeper role.” Well, after Ederson and Fernandes, do United really need to go all out for another midfielder, particularly given Mount’s push for a deeper midfield role? A midfield role is so demanding. Mount has demonstrated the technical ability to operate there, and when called upon, he filled in for Casemiro perfectly, arguably better than Ugarte ever managed. However, his showing against Brighton, impressive as it was, makes one wonder whether he can stay fit and replicate it. Can he remain available in a role that demands physicality? Injuries Mount’s undoing at United Injuries have been central to the Englishman’s struggles at United. If he can avoid them, the 27-year-old has the quality to become one of the Red Devils’ best players. It will be tricky, but the hope is that this role change brings with it the luck he needs to stay fit, redefine himself, and contribute meaningfully to United’s midfield, starting in a deeper role before gradually transitioning into a playmaker role and becoming the ready-made heir to Bruno Fernandes when the time comes. United ramp up pursuit of red-hot PL talisman who blasted Tuchel for ruining World Cup dream – report

Manchester United face a fierce race with England’s elite clubs to sign Nottingham Forest talisman Morgan Gibbs-White this summer, according to a new report. Standout Star Gibbs-White has enjoyed a superb season at the City Ground, recording an impressive 15 goals and four assists in 37 Premier League appearances. Only four players scored more than the Forest talisman. With the Tricky Trees having experienced a revolving door of managers under the chaotic ownership of Evangelos Marinakis, the 26-year-old has been a constant – alongside Elliot Anderson – for the team to lean on as they battled relegation. In a defining run-in, with Forest facing West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to avoid the drop, Gibbs-White scored nine times in the final 10 matches, including a stunning hat-trick against Burnley. It was a major shock for Thomas Tuchel not to include the Stafford native in his England squad for the World Cup, given this remarkable run of form. However, the Three Lions boss has decided to stick rather than twist with his selection, much to the disappointment Gibbs-Wite, as well as Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw. Best deployed as an attacking midfielder but capable of playing out on the left and drifting in, Gibbs-White offers a potent pairing of physical and technical quality. His ability on the ball is evident, but he combines this with a relentless engine, a powerful frame, and excellent mobility. Eyed by England’s Elite It’s little surprise, therefore, that England’s top clubs, including the Red Devils, have expressed “serious interest” in Gibbs-White as a target, even with Forest having ruled out a summer sale. Sports Boom confirm United are “closely monitoring” the situation in Nottingham. EXCL: Morgan Gibbs-White is attracting serious interest from Aston Villa, Chelsea, Man United, Tottenham, Arsenal and PSG after a standout season at Nottingham Forest.🌳 No bids yet, but the battle lines are already drawn.👀 #NFFC @Ekremkonur https://t.co/OPd4AquuIC — Sportsboom (@Sportsboomcom) June 9, 2026 Tweet: “EXCL: Morgan Gibbs-White is attracting serious interest from Aston Villa, Chelsea, Man United, Tottenham, Arsenal and PSG after a standout season at Nottingham Forest. No bids yet, but the battle lines are already drawn.” The 20-time league champions are said to be “searching for a name that offers productivity in midfield” – with Gibbs-White a player who “directly meets this need.” Old Trafford chiefs also remain optimistic of striking a deal for Anderson, despite Manchester City leading the charge for the 23-year-old England international after opening formal talks. Meanwhile, Aston Villa are considered frontrunners for Gibbs-White, with Unai Emery “openly keen” on adding him as a potential replacement for Morgan Rogers, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping tabs, while European champions Paris Saint-Germain are even mentioned as a suitor. Final Thoughts Well-placed sources at the City Ground indicate Forest’s hierarchy are holding discussions over how “difficult it has become to keep Gibbs White” with this growing queue of admirers on the hunt for him. Whether United are willing to make a move for a player whose best position mirrors that of club captain Bruno Fernandes is another question, even if Gibbs-White ticks many of the boxes INEOS like. His versatility would allow him to play alongside the Portugal international on the left, before eventually inverting inside to take his place when Fernandes’ time in M16 finally comes to an end. It is better to have a succession plan in place before the King passes, after all. United have no interest in signing PL star despite claims of imminent offer from Red Devils – report

Whilst it is evident Manchester United are intent on improving their midfield options this summer, there could still be room for a surprise signing or two in other areas of the field should the right opportunity present itself. If United are serious about mounting a title challenge next season, there is no doubt they could do with a reliable centre-half of ready-made ability who can be fit and ready for action for the majority of the season. Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt look to have the perfect blend of qualities to build a formidable partnership at the heart of United’s back line, but simply cannot be trusted to go through a campaign injury-free. Therefore, if INEOS can strike a deal for a top-quality centre-back, it might just be the difference in United getting closer to Arsenal and Manchester City at the top of the table. Surprise name on the list shut down That being said, finding that player, particularly on a budget, is no easy feat, but a shock name was strongly linked with Manchester United on Monday night. The Peoples Person relayed that United were preparing an offer for wantaway Tottenham Hotspur skipper Cristian Romero. However, as per Manchester Evening News, United have no interest in signing the Argentina international. Whilst possessing certain qualities, Romero’s ill-discipline and overall disappointing performance levels over the last 12 to 18 months have left Tottenham at the wrong end of the table under his leadership on the pitch. Furthermore, the 28-year-old will be leaving the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium under the cloud of controversy that came after he returned to Argentina to watch his boyhood club rather than be in attendance for their crucial last game of the season to keep them in the division. Even if United fans are wishing for a centre-back before the season starts, it is doubtful they will be losing any sleep over missing out on a player who has shown such a lack of commitment to the club paying his wages. United can ill-afford to waste a chunk of their budget on a player who is not guaranteed to improve things at Old Trafford, and Romero would certainly be seen as a major gamble. Other priorities Whilst a centre-back addition would be nice, it is believed United are focusing on the left-back spot alongside the engine room for improvements this summer and see themselves as relatively well-stocked at centre-half. Despite the concerns around De Ligt and Martinez’s fitness, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro and the impressive Ayden Heaven will all be expected to play their part next season to ensure United enjoy a successful campaign. Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall looks the favourite to lighten the load on Luke Shaw, who, despite starting every league game last season, has struggled badly with injuries and, given the extra games this year, will need strong back-up. Hall looks every inch the long-term replacement for Shaw and if INEOS can get a deal over the line for the 21-year-old, they could have the left-back issue solved for the next decade.
