Controversial move: First signing of the INEOS era set to ditch United in favour of joining arch-rivals Leeds – report

Apart from first-team stars, the fate of several Manchester United academy graduates is likely to be decided this summer. As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, Toby Collyer looks to be on his way out of the club, while Radek Vitek could potentially follow him out of the club after a brilliant loan spell. However, a controversial transfer is in the works, with Leeds United agreeing a deal to sign highly-rated winger Silva Mexes, according to Talent Hunter. The 16-year-old is eligible to sign a scholarship contract, and Leeds have offered him the same with the Thailand Under-17 international set to sign on the dotted line this summer. Controversial transfer He will be rewarded with his first professional deal when he turns 17. Leeds’ plan is to utilise him in both Under-18 and Under-21 games next season. “Leeds United are set to sign 16 year-old winger Silva Mexes from Manchester United. An unbelievable signing for Leeds and definitely a player to look out for.” Silva Mexes set to join Leeds Interestingly, Silva Mexes was the first signing of the INEOS era, with the Red Devils snapping him up from Ipswich Town’s academy. It was expected that the wonderkid would remain in Manchester, considering his father, former Wales striker Rob Earnshaw, was a big United fan growing up. However, it seems the family felt a pathway to the first team would be easier to access at Elland Road. While a direct move from Old Trafford to their arch-rivals is not too common, recently Under-18 star Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher also chose to walk down the same path. Manchester United are desperate to offload Marcus Rashford, both due to his enormous wages and because his sale will count as pure profit. Barcelona were expected to trigger his £26 million buy option following his exploits while out on loan, but so far, the Catalan giants have been stalling. They insisted on a price reduction before requesting for another loan deal, only to spend an initial £60 million to sign Anthony Gordon from Newcastle. Clearly, the La Liga champions have the money, with deals for Bernardo Silva and Julian Alvarez also reportedly in the pipeline. Marcus Rashford’s Barcelona dream evaporating fast However, the Mancunian is still not ready to give up on his dream of staying at Camp Nou and is waiting to hear from the Spanish giants officially. In the meantime, INEOS have been standing firm in the hope of earning a higher fee from elsewhere. Bayern Munich are interested, but are not in a position to pay the Englishman’s enormous wages. There is reported interest from Premier League sides, but the Red Devils would prefer not to sell to a direct rival. If a permanent exit does not materialise, there is every chance Marcus Rashford will return to Carrington for pre-season, a scenario Michael Carrick will be keen to avoid. United do not want Marcus Rashford back This is why INEOS are reportedly open to reducing their asking price for the 28-year-old. However, so far, Barca are yet to give their green light. Interestingly, Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) have claimed that Aston Villa have joined the race for the United academy graduate. The former United No. 10 spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign at Villa Park and Unai Emery is keen to reunite with the versatile attacker. Aston Villa ready to pay, but Marcus Rashford remains adamant Villa are even ready to pay a reasonable fee to buy him. However, the ball currently rests in Rashford’s court. He has made no secret of his desire to continue playing for the Blaugrana. A decent World Cup could potentially change Barca’s mind. INEOS will also be hoping for the same. “Special” talent has made his choice between United and Real Madrid, fans will be buzzing – report

Manchester United are currently focusing all their energies on trying to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham United. Michael Carrick wants a complete Paris Saint-Germain-style rebuild of United’s midfield, with Ederson seen as the first piece of the puzzle. The Hammers ace, with his ability both with and without the ball, is considered to have the potential to emulate current Premier League superstar and former United target, Declan Rice. This is why the Red Devils are determined to push through all the roadblocks in order to get the deal done. Roadblocks in Mateus Fernandes race So far, West Ham have refused to budge from their initial valuation, while Real Madrid’s entry into the race has further complicated matters. The former Southampton ace has mentioned his admiration for Bruno Fernandes and his desire to join him at Old Trafford. I’m advised that Mateus Fernandes is one of several players that Mourinho admires, but he is not a priority presently. A player of his ability/potential has many European suitors, and a Madrid approach wouldn’t be surprising. Still, there are questions about valuation. — Shaun Connolly (@shaunconnolly85) June 9, 2026 However, it has been reported that super agent Jorge Mendes is pulling the strings and trying to get the Portugal international to sign for Los Blancos instead. Journalist Shaun Connolly has good news on that front. He has mentioned that while it is true that Jose Mourinho is a fan of his compatriot, Mateus Fernandes is among several names being looked at by the Spanish giants. Real Madrid’s entry has complicated matters As for United, the 21-year-old is seen as a priority, which is why the “special talent” prefers to join the English giants. “Mateus Fernandes is one of several players that Mourinho admires, but he is not a priority presently,” Connolly wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Naturally, this is a precarious situation, given Fernandes’ potential for further growth. But he has given preference to Manchester United, and the club are continuing with their efforts to agree a suitable fee. — Shaun Connolly (@shaunconnolly85) June 9, 2026 “A player of his ability/potential has many European suitors, and a Madrid approach wouldn’t be surprising. Still, there are questions about valuation. “Naturally, this is a precarious situation, given Fernandes’ potential for further growth. But he has given preference to Manchester United, and the club are continuing with their efforts to agree a suitable fee.” Mateus Fernandes has chosen where he wants to play next season This effectively means the La Liga side are not expected to be a problem provided INEOS can find a breakthrough with regards to the Portugal international’s price. The chance to play alongside and eventually succeed Bruno Fernandes at the Theatre of Dreams should be enough of a lure; at least, that is what United are banking on. Manchester United are planning a major midfield revamp, with Michael Carrick far from pleased with his current options. A Paris Saint-Germain style rebuild is on the cards following Casemiro’s departure. Before leaving, the Brazilian had endorsed Ederson as his replacement. Manuel Ugarte has failed to impress in his two years in England, and INEOS are keen to cut their losses. Academy graduate Toby Collyer, who endured two injury-hit loan spells last season, is also expected to depart. This shows that the Red Devils need at least three new incomings. Mateus Fernandes chase full of complications The Atalanta ace has already been signed, with the 20-time English league champions now focusing their energies on landing Mateus Fernandes next. The Portuguese ace would love to link up with Bruno Fernandes, whom he considers his idol, but West Ham’s price tag is proving to be a major obstacle. Despite their relegation, the Hammers value the 21-year-old at £80 million and are in no rush to sell their talisman. There is also the entry of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in the race. Jose Mourinho is reportedly a fan, while the Champions League winners hold a special place in the former Southampton ace’s heart. Why United are hellbent on Mateus Fernandes Sky Sports have revealed that despite numerous roadblocks, INEOS are determined to push for the Portugal international as they feel he has the talent to emulate current Premier League superstar Declan Rice. It is well known that former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to sign the Arsenal star during his time at the club, only for the Glazers not to back him in the market. The repercussions of that decision can still be felt, and the current co-owners are determined not to repeat the mistakes of the past. “Manchester United are exploring a potential deal for West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Sky Sports News understands West Ham value Fernandes at around £80m and are in no rush to sell the player. The Hammers signed the Portuguese midfielder for an initial fee of £38m last summer. West Ham remain adamant, United refusing to bow down “United are continuing to do background work on Fernandes as he is seen as a realistic deal after the Hammers’ relegation, with midfield remaining a priority for the club to strengthen this window. “Decision makers inside the club believe Fernandes was one of the best young players in the Premier League last season and has the potential to become as good as Declan Rice.” West Ham have not ruled out the possibility of Mateus Fernandes staying put, but knowing the financial implications of Championship football, it is almost certain that the midfielder will leave. United have even offered the West Ham No. 18 the chance to succeed their club captain. They are hoping that such an opportunity will be hard to turn down. This saga is unlikely to see a resolution any time soon. World-class star told teammates he was joining United but club pulled the plug on blockbuster deal – report

Manchester United are focused on revamping their midfield this summer after spending heavily to strengthen their attack last year. Benjamin Sesko arrived from RB Leipzig in a £74 million deal. Given his age and experience, the 23-year-old striker has enjoyed an encouraging maiden season in England, adjusting well to the Premier League’s physicality.  Sesko really began to find form at United following the arrival of Michael Carrick at the turn of the year. As such, big things are expected of the Slovenian next season. Still, not many believe the promising number nine is ready to spearhead the Red Devils’ attack on his own at present. Manchester United considered signing Harry Kane in 2023 Manchester United took a chance on another young striker, Rasmus Hojlund, in the summer of 2023. The Dane now finds himself at Napoli after a disastrous stint at Old Trafford. In the same summer, Harry Kane was available after entering the final 12 months of his contract at Tottenham Hotspur, who had two choices: sell their talisman or risk losing him for free a year later.  According to The Athletic, United showed interest in Kane and there were staff at the club who believed the England captain “would transform their team into title challengers.”  The then-manager, Erik ten Hag, was also on board with the idea of Kane leading his attack. Ultimately, Bayern Munich won the race for the prolific striker after agreeing to pay more than £86m for his services. Harry Kane was convinced he was joining Manchester United The Guardian journalist Jamie Jackson recently shed more light on the failed pursuit. Speaking on YouTube channel, Stretford Paddock, Jackson stated: “I was told that Kane had told some England teammates he was going to United, but United pulled the plug on it. “Ten Hag wanted him, but it was unrealistic financially.” The development must have frustrated Kane. However, his time in Germany has been nothing short of phenomenal. With a staggering 146 goals and 33 assists in just 147 appearances for Bayern, the Englishman has established himself as the best striker in Europe. Meanwhile, three years later, United are once again looking for a striker. This time, the brief is to find an experienced forward to share the goalscoring burden with Sesko. Given his stature and the potential finances involved, Kane is certainly not on that shortlist. Manchester United may have secured the services of Atalanta midfielder Ederson this summer, but that has not stopped them from targeting further squad reinforcements. The Red Devils are looking for the ideal successor to Casemiro, who will leave this summer as a free agent. While Ederson could be a fine option to replace his countryman at Old Trafford, recent reports suggest that United also have their eyes on West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes for the job. The Portuguese was outstanding for the Hammers last season, registering five goals and four assists in 39 appearances across all competitions. However, his efforts were not enough to prevent his team from being relegated to the Championship. This situation has added to speculation regarding Fernandes’ future, and a recent report from The Peoples Person states that United have stepped up their pursuit of the player. However, it has also been suggested that Real Madrid are hot on the player’s heels, with Jose Mourinho eager to take his countryman to the Santiago Bernabeu should he take over this summer. Fernandes’ former coach Vasco Seabra, who worked with him during his loan spell at Estoril, has now explained what makes the player a fine choice for his suitors. United target has a very high ceiling Speaking to Bola Branca, Vasco Seabra said that Fernandes has the capacity to reach an even higher level. He said: “Mateus has shown season after season that the higher the level at which he competes, the better he performs.” “I’m not quite sure yet what level he’ll eventually reach or settle at. It seems to me he’s the sort of player who, the higher the level, the more value and quality he brings to the team.” Touching on the reported interest from Real Madrid, Seabra continued: “He has a huge range, he’s technically gifted, and he’s a lad with heart and a brilliant mind. We hoped—and I hoped in particular—that he would make it to the top teams so quickly.” “But it would be disingenuous to say that I expected him to be on Real Madrid’s radar just two years later. He was really very young when he came through our ranks.” “I expected him to reach Premier League standard in no time at all. He really had the right mindset and commitment to the game on a daily basis, including in training, which led me to believe he could reach a very high level.” Fernandes could work well with Mourinho According to Seabra, Fernandes does not crave emotional comfort all the time; rather, he needs people who trust him and push him. As such, the possible presence of his countryman Mourinho at the Santiago Bernabeu is unlikely to be an added advantage for Los Blancos. However, Seabra acknowledges that Fernandes could further improve himself while working under the ‘Special One’. He concluded: “Essentially, Mateus needs people to trust him and to demand the best from him.” “I believe that someone like José Mourinho, an expert in communication, leadership and managing players’ expectations and frustrations – lifting them up and challenging them to be better – would be a pairing that could prove very beneficial for both of them.” Final Thoughts It appears increasingly clear that United could end up kicking themselves if they fail to secure the services of Fernandes this summer. The Portuguese is far from the finished article and could become a game-changing signing for INEOS this summer. Greenwood close to joining another European club after failed Fenerbahce move – report

Mason Greenwood could prove useful to Manchester United’s summer 2026 transfer plans. Back in the summer of 2024, the attacker left United for Olympique Marseille in a deal worth up to €31.6 million (£27.2 million). Notably, INEOS were wise enough to insert a 50 per cent sell-on clause when striking that deal. Well, this summer, Greenwood is tipped to leave the Orange Vélodrome. He has been heavily linked with some top sides, with The Peoples Person reporting links to Tottenham Hotspur and Fenerbahce. Talk is that the French side wants at least €55 million for the United academy graduate, a fee that seems reasonable given the brilliant season the 24-year-old enjoyed last term. In 32 league games, he scored 16 goals and recorded seven assists. Those statistics might suggest Marseille should not be letting him go. Yet, reports have emerged that Greenwood has not been on his best behaviour in recent months, having fallen out with the Marseille dressing room. While he was arguably their best player, the club are keen to let him go, and he wants out too. Mason Greenwood agrees personal terms According to Corriere dello Sport, it is not Tottenham or Fenerbahce but AS Roma who are now leading the race for Greenwood’s signature. The report suggests personal terms have already been agreed: “Roma’s confidence stems primarily from ongoing and positive contact with the striker’s father, who is also his agent. Constant dialogue, in-depth discussions, and discussions have led to a basis of understanding between the parties. The salary will be substantial, exceeding €4 million net per season plus bonuses, and rising over the years.” Club-to-club talks With personal terms agreed, the Italian outlet explains that Roma are to “accelerate to prevent the race from turning into a long transfer marathon.” Although Roma are not yet prepared to fully meet Marseille’s asking price, with the outlet noting that their “first move will be prudent but significant: offering Marseille around €40 million including bonuses. This offer won’t be enough, but it’s useful for validating a reality that is now evident.” A step closer to United receiving a bumper transfer windfall An official bid from Roma should bring both parties to the negotiating table. From there, the hope is that talks progress swiftly and a deal is struck. Should that happen, it will be welcome news at Old Trafford, with The Red Devils set to pocket half of the agreed fee. INEOS’ transfer kitty would therefore receive a massive boost, strengthening their bid to assemble a dream team for Michael Carrick. Carrick trying to emulate PSG’s winning formula with United fan favourite set for a new role – report

Manchester United may have qualified for the Champions League courtesy of their third-place finish last season, but Michael Carrick was far from pleased with certain aspects. The new head coach wants the Red Devils to be more dominant on the ball, something fans saw in a handful of games when the then-caretaker head coach first took over from Ruben Amorim. The Manchester derby and the away clash against Arsenal were prime examples of what Carrick wants from his team moving forward. This explains why he is so eager to revamp the midfield, with Ederson already signed from Atalanta as Casemiro’s replacement, and two more new signings on the way. Midfield revamp along the lines of PSG Whether the Red Devils can sign two from among Elliot Anderson, Sandro Tonali, and Mateus Fernandes remains to be seen. For now, Carrick is looking at Paris Saint-Germain’s blueprint to bring out the best from his group of players. Their midfield trio of Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz and Joao Neves have been superb, with each complementing the others with vastly different skillsets married together in perfect harmony. With Ederson likely to play at the base of the midfield, Kobbie Mainoo’s role is set to be tweaked. Kobbie Mainoo to see his role get tweaked Last season, the Englishman had far too many defensive responsibilities, with Casemiro often venturing forward while struggling to track back. But Carrick wants the Carrington graduate to attack the spaces behind opposition defences to become a more versatile midfielder. Fans have seen first-hand how dangerous the 21-year-old can be offensively, but last season, the England international managed only a solitary strike. That is expected to change in Carrick’s new-look midfield. Ederson is likely to be tasked with shielding the backline with his energy and determination, thus allowing Kobbie Mainoo to express himself more freely. Exciting plans in store “MICHAEL CARRICK wants Manchester United to assemble a midfield trio based on Paris Saint-Germain’s dynamic Champions League winners. “Carrick wants United to develop a more dominant playing style for his first full season in charge, with Kobbie Mainoo’s role due to be tweaked. United won 12 of Carrick’s 17 matches in charge last season, losing only two, but they lacked a consistent style as results took precedence in the run-in. “Carrick wants Mainoo to start attacking spaces in behind defences, having scored only one goal last season, in order to become a more rounded midfielder. “United have already agreed a £35million deal to sign Brazil midfielder Ederson from Atalanta, having tied down Mainoo on a five-year contract. Ederson is a holding midfielder and would provide protection that grants Mainoo licence to roam further forward.” Fans are bound to get excited after reading this report. Now to see if INEOS can deliver in the market and whether Carrick’s master plan actually works on the pitch when it matters. Former Manchester United talent Ethan Galbraith has attracted the interest of West Ham United. West Ham are preparing for a major rebuild following their relegation to the Championship, with Mateus Fernandes, Crysencio Summerville, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and club captain Jarrod Bowen all expected to leave east London. The Hammers would undoubtedly like to retain their best players, but the club’s need to raise upwards of £100 million through sales is likely to force their hand. A report suggests they are already searching for potential replacements. West Ham want to sign former Manchester United player According to Football League World, West Ham are “very much eyeing up a deal” for Swansea City midfielder Ethan Galbraith. A product of Manchester United’s academy, Galbraith has rebuilt his career in England’s lower leagues since leaving Carrington in 2023. The 25-year-old versatile Northern Irishman first joined Leyton Orient before earning a well-deserved move to Swansea City in 2025. He enjoyed an encouraging maiden season, making 39 appearances for the South Wales club in the Championship. Now, West Ham are keen on signing him “perhaps in anticipation of the aforementioned Fernandes moving on to a top flight club after just one year.” Manchester United working on signing Mateus Fernandes Meanwhile, it is no secret that United are trying to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham.  Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United believe they can open discussions for Mateus Fernandes at £60 million. The London outfit, however, are thought to be demanding £80m for the Portuguese midfielder. As far as Fernandes is concerned, the Portuguese youngster wants to move to Old Trafford despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal. Manchester United have well and truly turned the head of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba. United first made contact with Baleba last summer, but Brighton’s £100 million price tag proved to be prohibitive. However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that United secured an agreement “on personal terms” with Baleba, and the agreement remains valid for this summer. Carlos Baleba speaking to Manchester United stars Cameroonian midfielder Carlos Baleba remains as keen as ever to join Manchester United. According to The Sun, Baleba has discussed the possibility of joining United with some of the club’s players. The 22-year-old star “spoke to Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha after their 3-0 victory at the Amex on the final day of the season.” “Cunha has been supportive of Baleba in the past, having played against him twice for Wolves,” the report adds. Baleba is also thought to be close with fellow Cameroonian Bryan Mbeumo, while compatriot Andre Onana “encouraged Baleba to pursue a move to United last year before his loan switch to Trabzonspor.” Brighton remain firm The former Lille prodigy, who is known for his athleticism, impressed against United in May.
