Manchester United are looking to revamp their midfield department with Michael Carrick eyeing as many as three new signings. The Red Devils have already agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, while the English giants are currently locked in talks over a deal for Mateus Fernandes from West Ham. Despite stiff competition from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, and Tottenham Hotspur, INEOS remain confident of sealing the deal for the Portugal international as early as this month. Deals for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali have fallen through, which means United are currently scouring the market for their third signing. United in pole position for Ayyoub Bouaddi Bournemouth pair Alex Scott and Tyler Adams are on the club’s radar, even though the Cherries will make it as difficult for United as possible. This is why the co-owners have widened their search to players outside the English top flight. It was recently reported that Arsenal and Liverpool have opened talks with Lille for Ayyoub Bouaddi, but Football FanCast have a blockbuster update on the Moroccan. They claim that the Old Trafford side are in pole position and have opened club-to-club talks with the Ligue 1 giants for the 18-year-old. “Arsenal, PSG and Liverpool have all held talks with the camp of Morocco star Ayyoub Bouaddi. However, it is United who have launched their move in recent days and made the most concrete steps to sign the 18 year-old, Football FanCast sources understand. What a stunning World Cup debut for Ayyoub Bouaddi “Red Devils chiefs have enquired with Lille over the cost of the deal, and are the only suitor to make club-to-club contact so far. They believe Bouaddi, who was born in France, would be open to joining up with Carrick this summer. Lille are expected to demand upwards of £70m for the teenager.” The price tag is bound to be as high, judging from the Morocco international’s exploits against Brazil in their World Cup opener. He literally played Casemiro and Bruno Guimaraes off the park, with the United superstar forced to come off at half-time. United have been long-term admirers of the midfield wonderkid, whose price will only skyrocket as the tournament progresses. Lots of suitors for Ayyoub Bouaddi, whose price will only keep rising The balance and poise shown by Ayyoub Bouaddi on the ball and his work-rate off it heralded the birth of a new superstar in world football. Whether INEOS can pull off this deal remains to be seen. But fans will be excited nonetheless after reading this update. Feature image Kevin C. Bitter PL rivals looking to pull off last-minute heist for United’s dream target, Carrick will be livid if INEOS fail – report

Manchester United have identified their next midfield target, Mateus Fernandes, and have him firmly in their sights. Following Ederson’s capture from Atalanta, INEOS are fully focused on landing the Portuguese ace from West Ham. However, the Hammers have been playing hardball over the price, refusing to lower their £80 million valuation despite their relegation to the Championship. The entry of Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain into the race has further complicated matters, even though the Red Devils remain confident of landing their man. Spurs join Mateus Fernandes race Journalist Ben Jacobs has now claimed that a Premier League rival has launched an enquiry for the Portugal international. Tottenham Hotspur, who survived a real relegation scare by the skin of their teeth, are eager not to repeat last season’s horror show this time out. As a result, Spurs are desperate to back new boss Roberto De Zerbi with the ammunition needed to take the North London side back into the reckoning for European football. “Tottenham are looking at the market with various names,” Jacobs said on the Reporting on The Last Word on Spurs podcast. Mateus Fernandes wants only United “They made an enquiry for Mateus Fernandes, even though the direction of travel there is Manchester United or PSG. Real Madrid could even enter that race, but he was another player that they looked at. “Funny, because Tottenham and West Ham just don’t do that much business ever, and yet we might get a flurry now, because the reports, of which I also was one of them, around Crysencio Summerville and Tottenham were legitimate, even though West Ham tried to deny it at the time.” Thankfully, Mateus Fernandes seems to have eyes only for a move to Old Trafford, where he can play alongside his idol, Bruno Fernandes. United remain confident that a deal can be agreed as early as this month. Michael Carrick had demanded INEOS to revamp the team’s engine room, and after missing out on both Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, the head coach will be happy if United can get the deal for Mateus Fernandes over the line. PL new boys eyeing ambitious move for United academy graduate who is ready to take the league by storm – report

With plans to strengthen multiple areas of the squad, Manchester United will need to raise significant cash through player sales. Unlike the Glazer regime, INEOS have been smart when it comes to moving players on, as evidenced by their tactics in the last two summers. But now, it is time for them to be ruthless, and that includes discarding academy graduates who are unlikely to make an immediate impact for the Red Devils. Radek Vitek is one who could leave, and given his form for Bristol City, United should try to earn a substantial fee. Toby Collyer: loan spells did not work out Another player who is generating interest from both the Premier League and the Championship is Toby Collyer. The 22-year-old was a favourite of former United boss Erik ten Hag, who trusted him more than Casemiro. Previous head coach Ruben Amorim was also a fan, but it was decided that a loan would be best for his continued development. He joined West Bromwich Albion on a short-term basis, and while there were moments of magic, injuries hampered his stay at the Hawthorns and United felt the midfielder needed a change of scenery. The United academy graduate was subsequently sent to Hull City, but injuries meant the Englishman managed only one start before he returned to Old Trafford to continue his rehabilitation. Hull remain interested in Toby Collyer The Tigers are keen to bring him back to the MKM Stadium, with The Daily Mail reporting that the newly-promoted Premier League side are planning to sit down and discuss terms with United. Manager Sergej Jakirović feels Toby Collyer is ready to make an immediate mark in the Premier League, and a full pre-season with his new teammates could help him explode. “They would like to discuss a deal with Manchester United for Toby Collyer, who they had on loan at the end of last season. “It is felt the 22-year-old would benefit from a full pre-season, and develop into a midfielder capable of making an immediate impact in the Premier League.” Will Toby Collyer leave permanently or on loan? As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, INEOS are open to letting the former England Under-20 international leave, so Hull could potentially sign him on a permanent basis this time around. His sale will count as pure profit, all the more reasons for INEOS to sanction a sale. However, it must also be remembered that Michael Carrick needs legs in midfield after the departures of Casemiro and Manuel Ugarte. Whether Toby Collyer gets his chance to impress Carrick or whether he is let go will be interesting to see. One thing is for certain: the youngster needs game time one way or the other. United star speaks up on his moment of magic after inspiring nation to famous World Cup victory
Manchester United forward Amad has shared his verdict after inspiring the Ivory Coast to a stunning victory over Ecuador in their World Cup opener. Heroic Amad Despite standing out for the Ivory Coast and netting the winning goal against France in the nation’s previous outing, Amad was named on the bench. Team boss Emerse Fae opted for Bazoumana Toure and Yan Diomande on either wing. Ecuador emerged as the more threatening side during the first half, twice striking the crossbar courtesy of John Yeboah and Alan Minda. But the Ivory Coast gradually grew into the game and eventually took control. Diomande, who has been linked with a move to United, was particularly a thorn in Ecuador’s side, although some of his final actions were lacking. Elye Wahi then hit the crossbar for Fae’s side in the second half, before Amad and Ange-Yoan Bonny were introduced and breathed fresh life into the Ivorians. Amad delivered the decisive blow in stoppage time. The United man sidefooted a superb ball from Wilfried Singo into the back of the net. His goal sparked wild celebrations as the Ivory Coast kicked off their World Cup campaign with a win. In scoring, Amad became the youngest scorer in the country’s finals history. Statisticians Opta note that despite only being introduced in the 56th minute, Amad no player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has totalled more successful take-ons than Amad did against Ecuador. Amad Diallo only came on in the 56th minute for Ivory Coast, but no player at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has totalled more successful take-ons than he managed tonight versus Ecuador (5). pic.twitter.com/1sfUPRTsqs — Opta Analyst (@OptaAnalyst) June 15, 2026 Amad’s reaction Amad told the media, “We knew it was going to be a difficult match because we know the Ecuadorian players are physically strong.” “We couldn’t play into their hands. We had to impose our own game and that is what we tried to do.” He added, “They put us in trouble on several occasions, obviously, but we stayed clear-headed, we stayed focused. We continued to believe in our chances until the end.” “In the end, we gained three points and now we need to focus on the next two matches.” Amad and his countrymen will now turn their attention to Saturday’s meeting with Germany in Toronto. United banking on INEOS signing to star at the World Cup as Red Devils look to agree bumper sale – Sky

Manchester United are desperate to revamp their engine room as Michael Carrick seeks to play a more front-foot style of football from next season. The Red Devils have already agreed a deal with Atalanta for Ederson, but the head coach wants to add more quality to the middle of the park. With deals for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali falling through, INEOS are fully focused on bringing Mateus Fernandes to Old Trafford. West Ham’s asking price and Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s interest have proved to be stumbling blocks, but the co-owners are confident of agreeing a deal within this month. Manuel Ugarte has endured a disappointing spell at United Carrick has asked INEOS to try to sign a third midfielder, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Tyler Adams among the potential targets. But a move will only be feasible if Manuel Ugarte join Casemiro in leaving the club. The Uruguayan has already been informed that he is likely to be fourth choice at best should he stay. There is interest from Turkish clubs, but the problem is that United are unlikely to recoup close to the £42 million they paid PSG for his services. According to Sky Sports, the 20-time English league champions are banking on the defensive midfielder shining for Uruguay at the World Cup to drive up his price and potentially invite more teams to bid for him. INEOS wants Manuel Ugarte gone, a decent World Cup could see his value skyrocket “If Manuel Ugarte leaves then there is a possibility for United to add a third midfielder. “United hope the Uruguay international’s performances at the World Cup will increase his value with Ugarte one of a few first team players they are expecting to move on this summer.” Depending on how much United can fetch from a sale, they will be exploring the market, with Carlos Baleba also a possibility. Carrick is also keeping an eye on academy talents, with quite a few set to be given a chance to impress and possibly emerge as that third midfield option. Video: “If Arsenal can…”: Pogba delivers bold verdict on when United will be champions again
After years in the cold, Manchester United punched their way back into Champions League football last season, finishing third in the table. Yet such an end to the campaign would not have been possible without a brave mid-season decision that changed everything. Amorim out, Carrick in Conceding that there was no improvement under Ruben Amorim, Ineos pulled the plug and went the caretaker route, bringing Michael Carrick in to steady the ship, and it proved to be a masterstroke. United underwent an instant revival, hungry to deliver and doing exactly that. Across 17 games, they picked up 12 wins, three draws, and two defeats, results that played a key role in securing third place. The last few months have certainly given United fans genuine belief that a return to the top is possible under their new permanent head coach. But as impressive as that Carrick side was, imagine how much more dangerous they could be if INEOS back him with the players he feels are right for his system. With proper support behind him, there is every reason to believe Carrick can have United challenging for the Premier League sooner rather than later. Paul Pogba confident glory days are returning to Old Trafford Even Paul Pogba believes that will be the case. In a sneak peek of his yet-to-be-released interview with talkSPORT, the former United midfielder was asked whether the club can win the league under Carrick. He did not hesitate: “Yes! I think in the next years, they will be champions. “If Arsenal can be champions, Man United will definitely be champions. No disrespect.” @talksportPaul Pogba claims Manchester United can win the Premier League in the next three years under Michael Carrick 👀 🏆 You can watch the whole interview with Paul Pogba tomorrow on White and Jordan and talkSPORT’s Youtube channel 🔥 #PaulPogba #ManUtd #MUFC #ManUnited #talkSPORT♬ original sound – talkSPORT – talkSPORT United certainly find themselves in an intriguing position, with a genuine opportunity to return to the summit. The remarkable turnaround in the second half of the season had many wondering: had Carrick taken charge earlier, could United have given Arsenal a real run for their money? Carrick needs to be backed Next season, the former midfielder has the chance to prove his mettle as a top-level manager. However, just how far he can take this team remains entirely dependent on the backing he receives. United must be ready to splash the cash and assemble a squad he can go to war with. If the rumour mill is to be believed and he wants Mateus Fernandes, Lewis Hall, and Alex Scott, he must be given exactly that. Carrick plus proper transfers and United could be winning the league very soon. Uniteds pursuit of Mateus Fernandes under threat as CL giants strike first report
Manchester United’s pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is hardly going to be a straightforward affair. The Red Devils are looking for midfield reinforcements this summer after parting ways with Casemiro, who has left the club as a free agent. Recent reports suggest that the English giants have already secured the signature of Atalanta’s Ederson to strengthen the middle of the park. However, Manuel Ugarte also remains linked with an exit, so United are eager to add more quality to the position before the start of the new season. With a move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson deemed too costly, the Red Devils have reportedly identified Fernandes as their next priority for the summer. Fernandes matches United’s requirement United have preferred Premier League-proven talents in recent times, and their transfer strategy has largely revolved around signing emerging players before they reach their full potential. Fernandes has adapted very well to the rigours of the English top-flight since joining Southampton from Sporting in the summer of 2024, before moving to the London Stadium a year later. Last season, the Portuguese registered five goals and five assists in 42 appearances across all competitions for the Hammers, all but two of which were starts. Fernandes’ efforts have already earned him admirers at Old Trafford, with recent reports stating the Red Devils are leading the race for his signature. It was also suggested that Real Madrid had withdrawn from the race as they expected the 21 year old to join United. However, a contrasting update has now emerged. Real Madrid initiate Fernandes contact According to TEAMtalk, Real Madrid have initiated contact over a move for Fernandes this summer, although United continue to be the frontrunner in the race. The report states: “Real Madrid have now ‘made contact’ regarding a move for West Ham star Mateus Fernandes, TEAMtalk sources confirm, as Manchester United push to win the race for the midfielder.” “The Red Devils are still considered the frontrunners, with club officials hopeful of progressing discussions swiftly.” The report confirms that the Red Devils are keen to complete a deal before the Portuguese’s other suitors, including Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), gain momentum in the race. The English giants are aware of the rising interest in the player, but their worst fears could now come true. The report continues: “Real Madrid have made a fresh enquiry over a move for Fernandes in the past 48 hours, TEAMtalk can reveal, as they, like Man Utd, push to revamp their midfield this summer. New manager Jose Mourinho, backed by Los Blancos president Florentino Perez, has his eye on a number of top-class midfield targets.” “Real Madrid have explored moves for the likes of Man City star Rodri and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, but Hammers ace Fernandes is now under consideration, too.” The report adds that while the Hammers are in no hurry to offload their prized asset, a deal could be possible for around £80 million. Final Thoughts Fernandes is a generational talent with a very high ceiling and has everything that United are looking for in a midfielder this summer. Having already conceded defeat in their pursuit of Anderson, the Red Devils must ensure they do not miss out on the Portuguese. United academy legend issues heartfelt statement after receiving incredible national recognition
Manchester United academy icon Tony Whelan has opened up after being awarded an MBE in the King’s Honours List. United legend Whelan came through the youth ranks at United under Sir Matt Busby and later turned out for the reserves before he was brought back to serve in the academy by Nobby Stiles and Brian Kidd. He assumed multiple roles at United, including academy head of coaching and academy programme adviser. Whelan left United in January 2025 after 34 years of service, during which he was extremely popular and credited with the development of dozens of academy products in Carrington. A total of 97 academy graduates made their first-team debuts for United during his time at the club. In 2020, Whelan was awarded the Premier League’s Eamonn Dolan prize for his contributions to youth development. So it is only fitting that he has now been honoured with an MBE, adding yet further recognition for his services. Whelan’s statement The 73-year-old said in a statement, “I am profoundly honoured , humbled and moved to be appointed MBE in His Majesty The King’s 2026 Birthday Honours List. I accept it with sincere gratitude to the wonderful people I had the privilege to collaborate with in the various departments at Manchester United Football Club during my service there.” “No-one deserves recognition like this entirely on their own merit and, throughout my life (from schoolboy to youth soccer coach), I have rested gently in the bosom of some magnificent guardians, mentors and friends, who don’t realise how much they have contributed to my long-term personal and professional development.” “I will, forever, be indebted to them! Furthermore, it would be seriously remiss if I failed to acknowledge the countless young players I have been fortunate enough to meet. They have enriched my life immeasurably, bringing me boundless inspiration, happiness, joy and, above all, fun. I doff my cap to them!” He added, “It has been a lifetime passion to champion talented schoolboys aspiring to pursue a career in professional football.” “It is my hope that this award will highlight the supreme importance of this ethereal, magical, childhood world and the devotion, dedication and commitment of the staff who work within it.” “Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to those who have been extremely kind and generous to nominate me and to dedicate this accolade to my wife and family for their unconditional sacrifice, support, love and care throughout my coaching journey.” Former United star Lou Macari was also awarded an MBE for his work to tackle homelessness and his services to football.
