Manchester United are eyeing several Premier League-proven midfielders this summer, including Newcastle United maestro Sandro Tonali. However, the latest update on the Italian’s future will not please Red Devils fans. INEOS enjoyed tremendous success in last summer’s transfer window and will be keen to repeat the trick this year with the midfield. A capable replacement for Casemiro is on the agenda, with recent reports suggesting Atalanta’s Ederson is all set to arrive at Old Trafford. The focus is now on adding Premier League-proven quality to Michael Carrick’s midfield, especially with Manuel Ugarte likely to leave as well. Recent reports have linked United with a move for West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes. However, the 21 year old is hardly the finished article and INEOS could be tempted to add more Premier League experience to the squad. With Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson expected to join Manchester City, Tonali has emerged as an option for the Red Devils. United enticed by Tonali’s Premier League credentials Tonali has been indispensable for Newcastle United since arriving from AC Milan in 2023. The Italian has amassed 79 appearances in the Premier League, registering five goals and four assists. Tonali combines defensive alertness with box-to-box drive and is assured with his passing, attributes that have endeared him to the Old Trafford hierarchy. Last season, Tonali registered three goals and seven assists in 53 appearances across all competitions for the Magpies. The 25 year old is under contract with the Magpies until 2028, and United are keeping a close watch on his situation. However, recent reports suggested that City are also interested in Tonali’s signature, and acclaimed journalist Fabrizio Romano has now provided another concerning update on the player. Tottenham Hotspur in the driving seat Sharing the news on social media, Romano said that Tottenham have entered the race to sign Tonali this summer. He wrote: “EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham have entered the race to sign Sandro Tonali!” “De Zerbi wants Tonali as new star for the midfield, ideal to step up #THFC level. Spurs ready to face Man City and Arsenal in the race for Tonali for new ambitious project to prove their intentions.” Just as United fans were coming to terms with the news, the Italian journalist dropped another bombshell. Sharing an update on his YouTube channel, Romano insisted that the Italian midfielder is ready to move to Spurs this summer. He said: “Sandro Tonali is keen on a move to Tottenham; he is ready to make a move to Spurs. Tonali is attracted by the project and wants to play under De Zerbi, as they share a very close connection, even without Europe! Could take £85m package.” Final Thoughts If Tonali wants to join Tottenham, United may be fighting a losing battle in attempting to convince him to move to the Theatre of Dreams. INEOS, instead, should redirect all their resources into completing a move for Mateus Fernandes. 🚨 EXCLUSIVE: Tottenham have entered the race to sign Sandro Tonali! 💣🇮🇹 De Zerbi wants Tonali as new star for the midfield, ideal to step up #THFC level. United now eyeing move to sign Fulham midfield monster “with a great eye for a pass” – The Athletic
Manchester United are focusing their efforts on alternatives such as Mateus Fernandes after deciding against making a move for Elliot Anderson, with Nottingham Forest asking beyond a British record transfer fee. According to David Ornstein, talks through Fernandes’ agent Jorge Mendes are advancing, with personal terms not anticipated to prove an issue. However, it is understood the Old Trafford hierarchy are not prepared to meet West Ham United’s demands of £80m. Their list of alternative targets does not end with Fernandes. Manchester United eyeing Sander Berge According to The Athletic, Fulham midfielder Sander Berge is another player that Manchester United are now running the rule over as an option. It is believed United considered signing Berge in 2024 when he left Burnley for Fulham. The 6’5″ midfielder has proven to be a success at Craven Cottage, continuing to impress with his aerial dominance, ball-winning ability, and ball-carrying skills. “He’s an intelligent footballer, with a great eye for a pass and the ability to run with the ball,” Vincent Kompany said after signing Berge for Burnley from Sheffield United. It is claimed Fulham would want to make a profit on the £25m they paid two years ago. The 28-year-old is part of Norway’s World Cup squad. A strong campaign in North America may further inflate his reputation and valuation. Manchester United explore deal for Alex Scott The same report adds that United have also explored the parameters of a deal for in-demand Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. There is a belief the technically gifted Englishman could be available for £60m this summer despite the Cherries insisting he is not for sale. Bournemouth are attempting to renew his contract, which is currently set to expire in 2028. Any new deal could allegedly include a release clause of around £75m. Carlos Baleba, Sandro Tonali and Adam Wharton also remain on United’s list of midfield targets. Ex-United boss ready to derail Ineos pursuit of 25-yo Bundesliga midfield maestro report
Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Borussia Dortmund’s Felix Nmecha, but Real Madrid could end up ruining their plans. The Red Devils are determined to assemble a world-class array of midfielders at Old Trafford this summer. The English giants are looking to fill the boots of Casemiro, who was outstanding last season but has left the club as a free agent. With Manuel Ugarte failing to impress as well, United are targeting a complete overhaul of the midfield this year. Recent reports suggest that the Red Devils have already secured the services of Atalanta warrior Ederson. INEOS are expected to focus on Premier League-proven candidates next, with West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes high up on their agenda. However, that has not stopped them from scouting top talents from foreign leagues. Among the players who have long been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams is Nmecha. United want Nmecha Nmecha rose through the ranks at Manchester City, but failed to cement a place in the starting XI and was released in the summer of 2021. He subsequently joined Wolfsburg and, two seasons later, ended up at the Signal Iduna Park. Felix has since become a guaranteed starter for the BVB. Last season, he registered five goals and three assists in 42 games, 36 of which were starts. The 25 year old fits the profile of players targeted by INEOS of late, which is why he is currently under consideration at the Theatre of Dreams. However, it now appears that the Red Devils will face intense competition in the race for his signature. Real Madrid eyeing Nmecha Sky Sports Germany report that new Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is keen to take Nmecha to the Santiago Bernabeu. The report states: “According to Sky Sport, Mourinho is keen on BVB midfielder Felix Nmecha.” “The 63-year-old star manager has already made enquiries about the nine-time Germany international. There is undoubtedly a need for reinforcements, as Real Madrid are looking to strengthen their midfield. Alongside the LaLiga giants, Premier League giants Manchester United and Manchester City are also lying in wait.” However, the report states that Dortmund are relaxed about the situation, given that the player signed a new contract in March that keeps him at the club until 2030. His release clause does not come into effect until next summer, and there is a belief that Nmecha will leave in 2027 for €70 million. The report also confirms that the German will become Dortmund’s highest earner from next season, concluding: “Nmecha’s importance to BVB has been underlined once again by his contract extension: according to Sky Sport, he will become the club’s highest earner from the start of the new season. Nmecha will be on the same salary as Süle, putting him in a league of his own financially speaking.” Final Thoughts United would not mind Real Madrid’s interest in Nmecha, given that he is not a priority target this summer. Meanwhile, the Los Blancos’ pursuit of the German could give the Red Devils a free run at West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, who is reportedly on Mourinho’s wish list as well. United youth product who spent 14 years at club linked to numerous League One clubs this summer – report

Former Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree is looking for a new club. United career Aljofree joined Manchester United’s first team training in 2022 but spent most of his career out on loan. The 21-year-old first joined Altrincham for two loan spells, first in 2023 and then in 2024. He then enjoyed a successful loan spell at Accrington Stanley, where he played regularly. The centre-back played 27 matches and even scored three goals for the League Two side. Aljofree then joined Notts County on loan last season but could not earn a regular place in the team, making just 11 appearances in total. As a result, he was recalled in January 2026. This month, it was also revealed that he would be leaving the club on a free owing to the expiry of his contract. The defender spent a total of 14 years at the club as he came through various ranks of the youth teams at Carrington. INEOS plotting sensational swoop for former United cult hero Anthony Martial – report
Not every player goes on to enjoy success after leaving Manchester United, just ask Anthony Martial. The Frenchman, regarded as a cult hero by the United faithful, joined AEK Athens after spending nine years in Manchester. His time in the Greek capital ended after one season, as he fell out of favour with the coach — a recurring theme for the versatile attacker. The 30-year-old then chose to join Liga MX club CF Monterrey in Mexico, but even that stint ended abruptly after a disappointing season. Anthony Martial has struggled since leaving United A free agent once again, the France international is looking to find a new team, and despite his difficulties over the last couple of years, teams in his homeland are reportedly ready to take a punt on him. Mediafoot have revealed that as many as three teams are chasing the former United No.9, including OGC Nice. Why is this significant? Because the Ligue 1 club are owned by INEOS, who are also co-owners of the 20-time English league champions. Paris FC and Troyes have also spoken to the player’s representatives regarding a summer move. Three Ligue 1 teams eyeing the Frenchman “At 30 years old, Anthony Martial is entering the transfer market as a free agent. And in Ligue 1, his profile is certainly attracting attention. “According to sources contacted by Média Foot, Paris FC has already made inquiries about the former Manchester United striker! As we previously reported, PFC wants to offload Ciro Immobile, who hasn’t lived up to expectations, in order to recruit a world-class striker. “While Anthony Martial hasn’t exactly provided consistent performance over long seasons after unsuccessful stints in Spain (Sevilla), Greece (AEK Athens), and Mexico (Monterrey), the Frenchman remains highly regarded in his home country. Besides Paris FC, OGC Nice and Troyes have also expressed interest to his representatives.” Perhaps a return to familiar surroundings could be the catalyst to the mercurial frontman regaining his mojo. Anthony Martial: a story of unfulfilled potential Anthony Martial arrived at United under Louis van Gaal and fans instantly took him to heart following his debut goal against Liverpool. He scored 90 times for the three-time Champions League winners, but his story remained a case of unfulfilled potential as poor attitude and injuries ultimately spoiled his United career. 0% aerial duels, 0 tackles made: United flop’s miserable season continues at World Cup
Manchester United had one player in World Cup action on Monday. Amad made a splash for the Ivory Coast when he scored the winner versus Ecuador on Sunday. Noussair Mazraoui also impressed by shutting down Raphinha for Morocco against Brazil on Saturday. Unfortunately, Manuel Ugarte could not have a similar effect for Uruguay against Saudi Arabia. Poor form The Uruguay international has been a bit-part player all season for United, especially since Michael Carrick became manager. He played just 24 games for the Red Devils, totalling just 1005 minutes of action. Ugarte did not kick a football in anger for United since a 1-2 home defeat to Leeds United in the middle of April. As a result, it is fully expected that Ugarte will be sold this summer, with the likes of Galatasaray and Crystal Palace linked to the combative midfielder. Saudi Arabia game Ugarte played 72 minutes in Uruguay’s 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia. He did not make any key passes or cross attempts in the match. He was safe with the ball, though, making 90% of his passing attempts in the match. He also made 50% of his long ball attempts in the game. Ugarte is not known for his goalscoring, having only scored two goals for United and one for Uruguay during his career. Nonetheless, he had two shots on goal during the match and almost scored a goal for his nation, but his effort rattled off the post. The midfielder did complete one dribble attempt but did not make any tackles in the match. What’s more, he only won 33% of his ground duels and none of his aerial contests in a disappointing midfield showing. Uruguay will hope to secure all three points when they take on Cape Verde on Sunday night at 23:00 BST.
