Manchester United skipper Bruno Fernandes has come under scrutiny following Portugal’s 1-1 draw with Congo at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry is adamant that the Portuguese is a special player. Fernandes is coming off an outstanding campaign with the Red Devils, where he broke Henry and Kevin De Bruyne’s previous record for most assists (20) in a single Premier League campaign. The 31 year old ended up winning the Premier League Player of the Season and the FWA Footballer of the Year awards. Regarded as one of the most creative players in the world right now, Fernandes helped United finish third in the league table and earn qualification for next season’s Champions League. The Portuguese, however, was off-colour against Congo, although Henry has pointed out that he could have turned the game had Cristiano Ronaldo not interfered. The French legend recently sat down with United icon Rio Ferdinand for a chat on Rio Ferdinand Presents, where he discussed a variety of topics. Henry hails Fernandes’ brains When asked to name the player who reminds him of brains in football at the moment, Henry singled out Fernandes as well as Barcelona star Pedri. He said: “Bruno Fernandes. Pedri. Pedri has two. He has two brains. He has two. He has two brains.” Fernandes started the campaign in an unorthodox pivot role alongside Casemiro, but adapted very well to the position change. Even from a deeper position, the Portuguese remained United’s talisman, before he was finally reinstated in the No. 10 role by Michael Carrick in January. The Red Devils skipper went on to gift fans a historic campaign. He also created 136 chances in the Premier League last season, the most in the league by a fair distance. The importance of a football brain Henry went on to explain, in depth, the importance of brains in football. He said: “No, but look, those are the guys. Believe it or not, I always say to people when I used to play, I used to prefer an assist than a goal. And people always used to go, what? Come on, stop lying. No. Watch me when I used to score. It is simple. You can see it.” “How many times you saw me really smiling after a goal? I always used to think, so for example, let’s say I miss a goal, or I’m thinking even the game before, I missed, although we won, and I missed a goal, I’ll be like, so I’m thinking about the goal I just scored at the time.” “And for me, in my mind, I’m kind of like, how did I effing miss that last week or five minutes before and I scored this one? And I was always keeping that. But then, look at whenever I used to give an assist, I used to smile.” “And I always used to say that to people, he doesn’t smile, this guy. And I’m like, you’re wrong. I smile when I give an assist. But because assists at the time were not so much a thing. Now, obviously, when I assist, they assist. And by the way, which I think is how it should be, because I don’t know a lot of players that could score a goal without an assist.” “Who can take the ball from anywhere and then score? You don’t have a lot of people in that bracket. So therefore, it is very important. And by the way, it is. You pass the ball. You don’t run from everywhere with it, which I don’t mind that. And I think it’s kind of gone a tiny bit in the game, that part of it.” “But again, to go back to what you asked me before, which I will go back again, people do underestimate the power of the brain when we all know that’s the thing. That’s the thing that sends signals to the body. But then we don’t.” Final Thoughts Fernandes has been central to everything good about United over the past half-decade. With the Portuguese’s contract set to expire in just over a year, INEOS must do everything possible to secure his long-term future at the club. CL giants on alert as United go all out to sign “incredible” star, told to pay 69m to seal the deal – report

Manchester United are going head-to-head with Real Madrid for the signature of Mateus Fernandes. Fernandes only joined West Ham United from Southampton last year, but the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship has all but sealed his fate away from east London. However, West Ham are demanding a significant fee for their midfield gem, and understandably so, given his immense potential and a growing list of high-profile suitors. Battle on between Manchester United and Real Madrid It has been widely reported that Mateus Fernandes‘ preferred destination is Manchester United despite interest from Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain. However, in recent days, Real Madrid have entered the picture, with Jose Mourinho believed to be keen on signing the Portuguese midfielder. According to Spanish publication AS (via Sport Witness), Mourinho has identified Fernandes and Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez as priority midfield targets. It is claimed West Ham have made the 21-year-old available on the market, but Real’s “main obstacle” for his services is United, who are making a “strong push” to sign him. AS states West Ham are demanding €80 million (£69.2m) for the technically gifted and tenacious number eight. This is an interesting update, given the British press has continuously reported that the Championship side wants around £80m (€92.3m). Real Madrid willing to offload Aurelien Tchouameni Should United miss out on Fernandes to Real, they might end up landing one of their “dream” midfield targets in Aurelien Tchouameni. Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Mourinho favours Fernandes over Tchouameni. Accordingly, the potential sale of the French defensive midfielder is viewed as an ideal solution in the Spanish capital, given it would also strengthen their budget to hand Mourinho the players he wants for his second stint at the Santiago Bernabeu. United’s aggressive youth recruitment approach could see them land two of Liverpool’s brightest wonderkid – report

Since INEOS took charge of sporting affairs, Manchester United have been quite aggressive when it comes to signing wonderkids. Whether it be for the first-team as seen from deals for Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven, to securing the club’s future with moves for Cristian Orozco and Diego Leon, the co-owners have been proactive, to say the least. That is often reflected in how the academy is performing, with both United’s Under-18s and Under-21s impressing last season. The Red Devils are expected to be aggressive this time out as well, with The Peoples Person already relaying interest in Manchester City’s David Eze and Liverpool striker Vincent Joseph. Aggressive youth recruitment policy The 20-time English league champions are not done yet, with plans to add three more highly-rated teenagers to the Carrington pipeline. According to Sully and Academy Scoop, reliable sources of United-related information, the Old Trafford side are looking at Charlton Athletic’s Tyrie Arojogun, Derby County’s Blake Henry, and Liverpool’s Isaac Konde. Manchester United are pursuing a number of the country’s most talented young players this summer as they look to recruit for the future. The expectation is that Eze will join United despite interest from several Premier League clubs. Another Liverpool wonderkid could be United bound “United are keen on Liverpool striker Vincent Joseph, although his destination is unclear at this stage, with a number of English and European clubs interested. Joseph holds a German passport and could move abroad this summer. “Charlton Athletic’s Tyrie Arojogun, Derby County’s Blake Henry and Liverpool’s Isaac Konde are among the other players of interest. The club aim to be aggressive in their approach to the market as they look to secure deals for some of England’s top prospects.” All three are attacking players, with Konde impressing for Liverpool’s Under-18s last season. Securing two of Merseyside’s top talents, along with several English wonderkids, shows how seriously INEOS take youth recruitment. After years of neglect under the Glazers, fans can expect Carrington to once again be a hotbed of talent across England. United make up their minds on hijacking Arsenal move for World Cup standout drawing Busquets comparisons – Sky Sports

Ayyoub Bouaddi delivered a masterclass in Morocco’s World Cup opener against Brazil. The 18-year-old proved too hot to handle at the centre of the pitch, so much so that Casemiro had to be withdrawn at half-time, simply unable to cope. That performance last weekend offered a glimpse of why Manchester United have long tracked him and why splashing the cash for his services would make complete sense. Are Manchester United going for Ayyoub Bouaddi? While many would have hoped INEOS would act on United’s interest and strategically position themselves to strike for the Lille teen sensation, that will not be the case. Sky Sports‘ Dharmesh Sheth, doubling down on reports that Bouaddi is likely to join Arsenal, had this to say about United: “Sky Sports News reported in January that Manchester United have Bouaddi on their list of midfield targets. “However, they have prioritised other midfielders this summer, agreeing a deal for Ederson with Atalanta and now pursuing Mateus Fernandes at West Ham.” It is a shame, because Bouaddi looks every bit the player who could have elevated United’s engine room. The 18-year-old’s press resistance, defensive tenacity, and high-volume ball recovery make him precisely the midfield destroyer United have long craved. INEOS relying on proven formula Either way, United have opted for tried-and-tested Premier League quality in Mateus Fernandes and potentially Alex Scott. Prioritising signings from domestic rivals proved a hit last term with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and INEOS will be hoping it proves a masterstroke once again. Notably, by steering clear of Bouaddi amid his World Cup rise, United may also be avoiding what promises to be a fierce bidding war for the Moroccan, a player Olivier Giroud argues is a mix of Sergio Busquets and Patrick Vieira. United set to rival German giants for the next Sergio Busquets, INEOS have already made contact – report

Manchester United have agreed a deal for Ederson, but Michael Carrick wants as many as three midfielders as he looks to revamp the team’s engine room. The Brazilian has been signed on Casemiro’s recommendation, but the Atalanta ace is more of a box-to-box midfielder than a pure defensive midfielder. Mateus Fernandes is next on United’s radar, but the Portuguese is a deep-lying playmaker, which explains why INEOS are on the lookout for more options. After being priced out of moves for Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, the Red Devils have been forced to look beyond the Premier League for their third recruit. United forced to look beyond the Premier League Ayyoub Bouaddi has emerged as an option following his World Cup heroics, while an even younger alternative is also on the club’s radar. According to TEAMtalk, Nathan De Cat of Anderlecht has impressed United’s scouts with his ball-winning ability and passing quality. In fact, his powerful frame and silky-smooth style has earned him comparisons with former Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets. At 17, he has already earned a senior cap for Belgium, and naturally, quite a few teams are chasing his signature. German giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund are firmly in the mix, as are Tottenham Hotspur. A move will depend on which team provides the best pathway to senior football and eventual success. Nathan De Cat has wowed United scouts Interestingly, the Anderlecht wonderkid’s current deal expires in 2027, and he has shown no inclination of agreeing a contract extension. Given the number of teams involved in the race, the Belgian side are hoping to earn close to £35 million from his sale. “Tottenham are firmly in the mix to sign talented Belgian midfielder Nathan De Cat, TEAMtalk understands, with Manchester United among his other admirers from the Premier League. “With his contract set to enter its final year and little sign of a new deal despite Anderlecht’s efforts, they face a choice: cash in now or risk losing their academy gem for free in 2027. Sources suggest the Brussels club would consider offers around €40million (£34.7m / $45.8m) – a potential club-record fee that reflects his sky-high potential. Lots of suitors to contend with “Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have been locked in a high-profile battle for his signature, drawn to his physical presence and tactical intelligence. Sources confirm both clubs have made approaches. German clubs’ track record with young talents makes a move there highly plausible. “In the Premier League, interest in De Cat is just as intense, with Tottenham among his most active suitors. Spurs have scouted him extensively and made contact with Anderlecht over the conditions of a deal, seeing him as a long-term deep-lying playmaker. Man Utd have made enquiries, while Manchester City and Chelsea have stepped up background checks.” It is also likely that Anderlecht could ask for a loan-back as part of any agreement. That might even help bring the price down. Now, whether United take the risk and go all out for Nathan De Cat remains to be seen. His signing would be an astute purchase but it would be made keeping in mind the future. Whether that is what Carrick wants remains to be seen. United now eyeing surprise move for Croatian sensation who stunned England – Sky
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford reminded everyone of his brilliant goalscoring instincts and finishing ability by placing the ball into the bottom corner for England’s fourth goal against Croatia. With Barcelona reluctant to put their money where their mouth is, Rashford finds himself in an uncertain situation. United remain keen on selling the 28-year-old, who may need a strong World Cup campaign to attract top clubs. In the same thrilling opener in Dallas, one of Croatia’s most promising talents also showed his class with a superb strike, alerting his suitors. Manchester United set sights on Martin Baturina Croatia sensation Martin Baturina beat Jordan Pickford with a powerful effort to level the scoreline in the first half, announcing himself to a wider audience in the process. However, those who follow Serie A are already aware of Baturina’s immense potential, as the 23-year-old has swiftly established himself as one of Como’s most important players after moving to Italy from Dinamo Zagreb last year. According to Sky Italia, Manchester United are interested in Baturina amid the possibility of his summer departure. It is understood that Leeds United have already made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Baturina in the past. Bayern Munich have been mentioned as one of the interested parties, but the Premier League is thought to be a likelier destination for the versatile attacker. Apart from United, Aston Villa have also shown interest in the Croatia international. Martin Baturina could be brilliant addition at Manchester United The outlet confirms that Como have already rejected a €50m offer from an unnamed club. As such, the Red Devils would have to spend a considerable figure to bring them to the negotiating table. Recently, a Sky Sports report suggested that United could look to add a versatile forward this summer, depending on the potential departure of Joshua Zirkzee. In that regard, the technically gifted and intelligent Baturina is certainly an appealing target, given he can play out wide or inside. Baturina had eight goals and four assists to his name for Como across all competitions last term. The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
