The current season may not be over yet, but with a return to the Champions League now secured, many Manchester United fans are already looking ahead to next season. United confirmed their return to Europe’s elite football competition with a 3-2 victory over Liverpool FC on Sunday, a result that also strengthens the Red Devils’ grip on a third-placed finish this season. With the United team and interim manager Michael Carrick rightly receiving plenty of praise at the moment, there are many reasons for United fans to be optimistic for next season. A hugely important summer While United’s performances have undoubtedly been stellar since Michael Carrick returned to the club in January, there is an understanding that the upcoming summer transfer window will play a key role in United’s ongoing success. A place in the Champions League guarantees at least eight extra games next season, and the club will be hoping to progress further in each of the domestic cup competitions too. To handle the demands of those extra games, United will need to strengthen the squad with several additions. Central midfield is a particularly problematic area given Casemiro, one of only 11 Brazilians to ever play for United, will depart at the end of the season. A number of talented Premier League stars, such as Elliot Anderson and Morgan Rogers, have been linked with a move to Old Trafford, promising an exciting few months ahead. Our new home kit is coming soon The home kit United will wear in the 26/27 season, which has a “unique retro-feeling design in different shades of United red”, has been spotted on sale at a number of stores. footlocker just casually having the new man united kit before it’s even been released 😭😂 #manunited pic.twitter.com/PYhxkL4Ohz — matt🧇🧊 (@a_bloke1) May 4, 2026 Adidas have been United’s kit sponsor since 2015, when they struck a £750 million deal to partner with the club for the next ten years. This deal was extended for another decade in 2023 for an eye-watering sum of £900 million. This likely means the kit will be officially released soon, available for fans around the world to purchase to show their support for the mighty Red Devils. Benjamin Sesko leads the way with impressive PL stat no other player can match
Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko stands alone as he dominates a brilliant statistic that no other player can match at the moment. Terrific form Although Sesko endured a somewhat slow start to life following his move from RB Leipzig last summer, he has truly grown into his role over the past few months. He had found the back of the net just twice in 15 appearances before the turn of the year. Michael Carrick’s arrival as Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement coincided with a significant uptick in form for the Slovenian. He has scored seven times under Carrick, with some of his goals proving very crucial for United. Sesko bagged his 11th Premier League goal of the campaign on Sunday to help United to a 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool. It was a real striker’s goal as well. Freddie Woodman parried a Bruno Fernandes header into his thigh and Sesko was all too happy to bundle it home from close range. The 22-year-old is quieting his doubters, and considering how young he is, there are still several levels he can climb. Statman Dave has unearthed a staggering Sesko stat, demonstrating just how clinical the forward has been in front of goal. Super Sesko According to Statman Dave, Sesko has scored a Premier League goal every 86 minutes since the new year. This represents the best return rate of any player who has found the back of the net at least five times. Benjamin Šeško has scored a Premier League goal every 86 minutes on average this year. That’s the best rate of any player to have scored 5+. Huge output in 2026. 👏 pic.twitter.com/e2TLaGqBlx — Statman Dave (@StatmanDave) May 5, 2026 Sesko and his teammates return to action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. With Champions League football already secured, United’s attention is now set to start shifting towards the summer transfer window. As uncertainty continues to engulf the future of Joshua Zirkzee, United may need to dip into the market for another striker to ensure Sesko is not solely burdened with the task of leading the line next term. Zirkzee continues to be strongly linked with a return to Serie A amidst his struggle for playing time. Man Utd’s 5 Signings RANKED Out Of 10: How Successful Was Last Summer’s Transfer Window?
BACK Man Utd’s transfer business over the last 10 to 15 years has been justifiably criticised. The Red Devils have often made the wrong choices in the market, and it has cost them dearly. However, United made some very shrewd additions last year, and it has helped them secure a return to the Champions League Press the next page as we go through the club’s transfer activity last summer and rank each signing out of 10. Video: Alan Shearer in complete agreement with Gary Neville over United’s Carrick conundrum
Former Premier League striker Alan Shearer has echoed Gary Neville’s view on how Manchester United should handle their Michael Carrick conundrum. Decision time Carrick has overseen a dramatic uptick in fortunes at United since he was named Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement at the start of the year. It’s not just performances that have improved, but results as well. He masterminded a brilliant 3-2 victory over bitter rivals Liverpool on Sunday, marking his 10th win since taking charge of the team. Carrick has drawn two and lost just as many. ‘ The triumph over Liverpool not only secured a league double over the Merseyside club but also guaranteed United’s place in next season’s Champions League. The question now turns to United and what they intend to do with Carrick, who has made himself impossible to ignore. While Carrick is considered the frontrunner to secure the job on a permanent basis, United are adamant they will not make knee-jerk decisions. The club insists that an appointment will only get over the line once all available and suitable options have been secured. Other candidates believed to be in the running for the Old Trafford hot seat include Andoni Iraola, Julian Nagelsmann, Oliver Glasner and Gareth Southgate. But pressure is mounting on United to give Carrick the role. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that leading United figures like Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha want Carrick to stay. Kobbie Mainoo said that he and his teammates are prepared to die on the pitch for the 44-year-old coach. Neville, a known opponent of Carrick’s appointment, made it clear that he could get behind his stay, but only under a short-term arrangement. Shearer has backed this stance. Shearer and Neville in agreement Speaking on the BBC, Shearer said, “They brought him in to do a specific job, and he has done that job very, very well.” “He’s won in big games as well. He’s beaten [Manchester] City, beaten Arsenal, beaten Liverpool.” “So for me, yes, he at least deserves the chance to go again. I don’t know, maybe a one-year contract with different incentives if he hits different targets. But he was brought in to do a job, and he’s done that job.” “He was brought in to do a job and he’s done that job.” ✅ Alan Shearer believes Michael Carrick deserves the chance to continue as Man Utd manager, but should he be given more than a one-year deal? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/zuTrFpf9lm — Match of the Day (@BBCMOTD) May 4, 2026 No club has collected more Premier League points than United since Carrick came in, which further highlights the magnitude of his influence. United learn where FA Youth Cup final will be staged as venue is confirmed – report
Manchester United have discovered where their upcoming FA Youth Cup final clash against cross-town rivals Manchester City will be staged. United reach final United booked their spot in the final after beating Crystal Palace 2-1 in the semis. The tightly contested game was unlocked in the 77th minute after substitute Samuel Lusale found Chido Obi, who proceeded to slip in JJ Gabriel. The 15-year-old drove towards goal before producing a brilliant chipped finish to beat the goalkeeper. But United’s advantage didn’t last for too long as Raihaan Anderson ruthlessly punished a big mistake from United keeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes. But Darren Fletcher’s starlets had the last laugh, as Obi got on the end of a sensational defence-splitting pass from James Overy to round off the goalkeeper and fire into the back of an empty net. This winner set up a final against City, who just narrowly pipped United to the title in the northern section of the Under-18s Premier League. Venue confirmed City were drawn as the home side, and the expectation was that the final would be played at the Etihad Stadium. However, according to the Manchester Evening News, an alternative venue has now been confirmed after City were unable to agree on a date for the game to be played at the Etihad. Simon Bajkowski writes that City will host Fletcher’s side at the Joie Stadium. He further notes, “The showpiece fixture of the youth calendar will be held next week, with a date to be confirmed shortly so that tickets can go on sale.” “In a decision that will disappoint tens of thousands on both sides, the decision has been made to play at the 7,000-capacity stadium at City’s training ground instead.” While the Joie Stadium is reserved for City’s women’s and academy sides, a sell-out crowd is expected for the first Manchester derby final since 1986. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and his players are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. Picture: United star rubbishes bizarre rumour with blunt social media response
Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has dismissed a bizarre claim that he is set to miss the rest of the season after an agreement between the club and the Brazil national team. Strange rumours Cunha is enjoying life at United, having arrived at Old Trafford last summer from Wolverhampton Wanderers. His brilliant strike during Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool took his season tally to nine goals in 30 appearances. He has also contributed two assists in that period. A versatile operator, he has made the left-wing position his own and has kicked up another level since Michael Carrick was named Ruben Amorim’s replacement at the start of the year. On Monday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that United had reached an agreement with Brazil’s football federation that would have seen Cunha sit out the remainder of the campaign ahead of this summer’s World Cup tournament in North America. Cunha missed United’s win over Brentford last week with an injury, but recovered in time to feature for the Red Devils in their triumph over Liverpool. It was said that the 26-year-old would be rested for United’s final three fixtures of the campaign, to allow him as much time as possible to recover and be fully fit to feature for Brazil at the World Cup. But Cunha has shut down this bizarre speculation. Cunha sets record straight The player took to social media on Tuesday morning and posted a photo of himself in a celebratory mood while sporting United’s home kit. Alongside a laughing emoji, he geotagged the photo in Manchester and wrote the caption “What?” (Photo courtesy of Matheus Cunha’s Instagram) It’s safe to say that there is no truth to these rumours and as long as Cunha is fit, he will be used by Michael Carrick. Speaking to reporters after the final whistle vs. Liverpool, Carrick stressed that he and his players are eager to rack up as many points as possible. United are next in action on Saturday when go away to Sunderland. Shea Lacey shines in U21s victory, but this marauding full-back showed he could be the biggest breakthrough star next season

Manchester United Under-21s defeated Crystal Palace in the Premier League 2 play-offs last night to set up a semi-final derby with Manchester City. These are our player ratings for the match. You can read a detailed match report here. (A score of six is around average.) Ratings Will Murdock – 7.5 – Made two big saves late on in the match to ensure Palace did not mount a comeback and displayed some good sweeping qualities in the first half. Jaydan Kamason – 8 – He looked back to his best from before the long injury lay-off. Going forward, he delivered a few good crosses, most notably picking out Jack Fletcher in the box, which could have easily resulted in an assist. Most impressive on the night was his defensive showing. A rock at the back, he came out on top in every one-v-one, using pace, strength, and great positioning effectively on a number of occasions to keep Palace out. Sonny Aljofree – 7.5 – Very solid at the back, he handled himself well in a very physical match and made his experience in senior football clear to see. At the other end, he also put a header into a dangerous area in the first half that should have been attacked better. Dan Armer – 7.5 – His quick reactions in the opposition box put United in the lead when he headed home the rebound from a Lacey shot in the first half. He was very comfortable on the ball, bringing the play forward with both passing and dribbling. Godwill Kukonki – 7.5 – Rarely troubled at the back and continues to impress with his lung-busting runs down the left wing, one of which led to Obi’s goal. Tyler Fletcher – 7.5 – A complete midfield performance, he was up to the challenge physically, covering the ground and getting stuck in physically. It was his off-the-ball work that played a key part in United’s counter-press that pinned Palace back in the second half and nearly created a second goal for Obi. Jim Thwaites – 7 – Known most for his spectacular set pieces, but it was the simple things that he did really well on the night. His quick one-touch passing in tight areas was pivotal for United exerting control. Shea Lacey – 7.5 – His incredible run earned the free kick and then his effort from that free kick resulted in Armer opening the scoring. He looked a quality above when he got going and went for it, but would like to see him force the action more and go at his marker relentlessly. Jack Fletcher – 7 – Finished with an assist and should have had a goal. Good work off the ball saw him win possession for Obi’s goal, and he could have had a goal of his own but he snatched at the chance off his weaker foot. Victor Musa – 5.5 – Safe in possession but made little impact in the final third. Chido Obi – 7.5 – Another hard-working display with relentless pressing from the front. He had to feed off scraps for the majority of the first half but did not let his head drop and took his goal excellently when the chance came his way. Featured image James Fearn via Getty Images Substitutes Jack Moorhouse – 6.5 – Linked up well with Lacey off the bench with some good movement on the right wing. James Scanlon – 6 – Did not get involved much off the bench. Gabriele Biancheri – N/A – Did not have much time to impact the match. Colm Murphy A football obsessed Canadian who moved to England to enjoy the beautiful game. Three United heroes made a nostalgic return to club before sensational victory over Liverpool
Manchester United had some familiar faces back at the club before their massive victory at the weekend. The Red Devils secured Champions League football in the sweetest way by defeating Liverpool 3-2 at Old Trafford. Former stars Diego Forlan, who was signed from Independiente in 2001, spent three and a half seasons at the club. He played 98 times, scoring 17 goals. He would later go on to have much more success in Spain, first with Villarreal and then later with Atletico Madrid. His career highlight was winning the Golden Boot at the 2010 World Cup with Uruguay. Brazilian twins, Rafael and Fabio Da Silva, also joined the club straight from South America. They joined the youth team in 2008 from Fluminense, with Rafael scoring five goals in 170 matches and his brother Fabio scoring three times in 56 matches. Carrington visit The club’s website reports that, “Michael Carrick and the Manchester United players were visited by no fewer than three fan favourites on Saturday morning.” What’s more, “Diego Forlan and the Da Silva twins, Fabio and Rafael, all returned to Carrington on the eve of Sunday’s Old Trafford blockbuster against Liverpool.” The Brazilian duo were teammates with Carrick under Sir Alex Ferguson in a trophy-laden period for the club. Forlan scored a famous brace against Liverpool at Anfield in 2002, and Rafael also grabbed a sensational strike in 2012 at the same ground. The former Uruguayan striker was seen speaking with his compatriot Manuel Ugarte, and the Da Silva twins were with their former teammate and now coach, Jonny Evans. The Red Devils will next be in action against Sunderland on Saturday, where they will hope to secure third place for themselves.
