Two of Manchester United’s best performers this season have been Casemiro and Matheus Cunha. Sensational duo The Brazilian duo have been key in the club’s return to the Champions League and sensational results under interim manager Michael Carrick. They both have nine goals this season, which is particularly impressive for Casemiro, who is a defensive midfielder by trade but has transformed himself into a dangerous weapon at set pieces. Cunha has also really taken on responsibility in 2026, scoring crucial goals against the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Liverpool. Casemiro future It was announced earlier this year that Casemiro would not be signing a new deal at Old Trafford and that this would be his last season at the club. He has been in great form since the announcement, though, and recently won the club’s Premier League player of the month award for April. The Brazilian has also been linked to numerous moves, such as Inter Miami in the United States of America and also a return to his native country with Sao Paulo. Possibility of staying? Owing to his success on the pitch this year, some fans have taken to chanting “one more year” at the Brazilian to try and convince him to stay at the club. His teammate clearly feels the same way, according to comments carried by The Mirror. Commenting on the time he has spent playing with Casemiro, he said, “I play with him in the national team and I know how important he is. He’s an amazing guy. And yeah, to have this guy in the dressing room is a privilege.” He added, “we don’t know in the end how it is with his contract, and then of course we, everyone, hopes there’s a little bit more. Of course, of course, I know it’s harder than we talked about, but yeah, in the end, you never know.” Casemiro will next be in action for the Red Devils when they travel to the Stadium of Light on Saturday afternoon to face Sunderland. United to pursue exciting winger with “explosive pace” who has been compared to Eden Hazard – report

Manchester United are always on the lookout for exceptional young talent. Recent signings In Ineos’ first year in charge at the club, they signed players such as Chido Obi, Ayden Heaven and Diego Leon. Cristian Orozco from Colombia was also snapped up and will join the squad this summer. Sekou Kone is another young talent who was brought in, but his development has been cruelly delayed this season by various injuries. Kingsford Boakye According to Sports World Ghana, United have their eye on another young academy prospect. They report that, “Kingsford Boakye-Yiadom is drawing significant attention from across Europe after parting ways with Everton’s academy, with several top clubs monitoring his next move.” The news outlet continues to explain that, “the 21-year-old winger has emerged as a sought-after talent, with interest reportedly coming from Manchester United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Atlético Madrid, RB Leipzig, AS Monaco, Feyenoord and Genoa.” The youngster, who has already impressed at youth level in England, is known for his “explosive pace, close control, and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations.” As a result, he has already been compared to former Premier League stars Eden Hazard and Leroy Sané. He has played 21 matches this season for the youth teams, scoring three goals and providing three assists. His name shot to prominence at the club when he scored the team’s first goal from open play at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium for the youth team. The electric winger has also represented Ghana at U17 and U20 level and won the AFCON title at under-20 level. The news outlet suggests that Everton were ready to promote him to the senior side, but a change of representation has helped convince him that a move away from the Toffees will be the best decision for his future progress. Peter Schmeichel urges United to sign “absolutely amazing” wildcard midfielder with a quality club is “desperate” for

Legendary Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has called on the club to swoop in for Granit Xhaka, but Paul Scholes doesn’t feel it’s the right play. Midfield overhaul Having secured Champions League football in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Liverpool, United’s attention will surely start to turn to the summer transfer window. Qualification for the prestigious competition is set to significantly boost United’s transfer budget. Bolstering the midfield department is believed to be the priority for the club. In January, Casemiro announced that he will depart Old Trafford upon the expiry of his contract at the end of the season. Manuel Ugarte is also likely to be sold amidst his struggles to make an impact since his move from Paris Saint-Germain two years ago. United have several names on their transfer wishlist including Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba, Ederson and Morgan Gibbs-White. There have been suggestions that the Red Devils could make two or more additions, if funds allow. Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Schmeichel floated a wildcard alternative for United: Xhaka. Schmeichel’s case for Xhaka Explaining his reasoning, the Dane argued that Xhaka would bring experience and leadership to the side, thereby filling the gap set to be left by Casemiro. Schmeichel said, “I think we should go and sign Xhaka.” Scholes immediately responded, “No, Pete. I have watched him, but you’re probably in the same boat as Casemiro then, aren’t you really?” The former goalkeeper continued, “I make my case, what we are going to do is build the team around Kobbie, right. Now Casemiro is leaving. Now you bring in somebody like Wharton, Anderson whatever… that’s still young, that’s still untried.” “What we need and what we don’t really have apart from Harry and Bruno in that team is proper leadership. When I look at what Xhaka’s done for Sunderland, Xhaka is the reason they are where they are.” “He has been absolutely amazing, his leadership qualities are great, he can play 80 per cent of the games, he’s a really good player. We’re desperate for more leadership.” Intrigued by the idea, Nicky Butt added, “Xhaka would come in and go, ‘I’m not playing every game’, but he would bring a lot to the squad. Peter Schmeichel & Paul Scholes disagree over Xhaka signing for Man United! 😳 pic.twitter.com/Rcs4hIfGG2 — The Good, The Bad & The Football (@goodbadftblpod) May 4, 2026 Xhaka has made 31 Premier League appearances for Sunderland this term, contributing one goal and six assists. Wilcox pushing United to sign English speed demon, the perfect chance to land him has just opened up – reports

Manchester United secured their entry into the Champions League after a two-year absence following their thrilling 3-2 win over fierce rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. Michael Carrick deserves plaudits for engineering such a remarkable turnaround in such a short span of time, but the real work starts now. INEOS need to get their recruitment spot on, irrespective of who the new head coach is, if they want the Red Devils to challenge on all four fronts. While midfield is seen as the most pressing issue at the moment, the defence cannot be ignored considering the injury records of several key stars in those positions. Wilcox pushing for Lewis Hall Luke Shaw, who has started every Premier League game this season, cannot be trusted to stay fit next season given how his United career has panned out. With his current deal set to expire in 2027, it is better to find his successor this summer. According to Roundtable, United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, is keen to recruit Lewis Hall of Newcastle. “Roundtable understands that United hold an interest in Newcastle star Lewis Hall amid their search to find left-sided reinforcements this summer. “Sources have said that United technical director Jason Wilcox is a huge admirer of the England international and has brought him up prominently during recruitment meetings this year. Things have changed for Lewis Hall at Newcastle “As for United’s possible route to signing him, any move for Hall would depend heavily on his transfer fee and whether the player is open to a switch from Newcastle to Manchester, which is yet to be determined.” Initially, it was expected to be an uphill struggle for the Old Trafford side as the Magpies were willing to fight tooth and nail to keep hold of the Englishman. However, things have changed recently with the 21-year-old and Newcastle boss Eddie Howe not exactly on good terms. With the World Cup just days away, the youngster has lost his place to Dan Burn. The Athletic have now claimed that Howe is expected to stay at St James’ Park despite the underwhelming campaign. Perfect chance for United to land Lewis Hall “The hierarchy is keen for continuity and Howe is determined to continue into the summer, when the head coach is confident he can oversee a rebuild and then deliver a better Premier League performance next season.” This could potentially help in nudging Lewis Hall towards the exit door and allow the 20-time English league champions to take full advantage. It is all conjecture at this point, and a lot will depend on whether Hall and Howe can sort their differences out and Newcastle’s asking price. Chelsea legend left amazed by 6’6″ United youngster still waiting for his debut for Red Devils
It is hard to argue against Radek Vitek being the standout Manchester United loanee of the 2025-26 season. Yes, Marcus Rashford has also been brilliant on loan at Barcelona, contributing 13 goals and 14 assists in 46 games. However, some, especially Spanish media, still feel he has not been as impactful as he can be. Vitek, on the other hand, has become something of a modern-day hero to Bristol City fans. The 22-year-old has been a massive hit for the Robins. It is no wonder they crowned him their Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year, and Players’ Player of the Year. Player of the Year 🏆Young Player of the Year 🏆Players’ Player of the Year 🏆 What a season for Radek Vítek. 👏 pic.twitter.com/7f0hPSQLhT — Bristol City FC (@BristolCity) May 2, 2026 Radek Vitek showered with praise What an achievement for the United loanee, and former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech has been among those singing his praises. Cech, on The BBC, argues that, based on what his compatriot has shown over the past two seasons, he is ready to kick on. He said: “It’s important to play. Of course, there are situations where sometimes you know that you have a big chance to come back and fight for your position. That’s a different thing. “But as it stands at United, Lammens has done really well. I’m sure he [Vitek] will want to go somewhere and continue playing.” The legendary Premier League goalkeeper then went on to make the case for why he believes Vitek is ready for the top level: “It’s great to see him progress because playing for the Under-21s with United is one thing, but then he played men’s football in Austria, which went really well for him, then he came back to England with Bristol City and did well there. “That obviously gives him an opportunity to attract even attention from teams in the Premier League. “I met him a couple of years ago, when we had a training session and talked about things. I could see he’s got the hunger and the willingness to get better.” Vitek has proven his mettle Cech is simply saying what many have already observed: Vitek is primed for a big 2026-27 season after proving himself in the Championship. Well, according to FotMob, the young goalkeeper averages an impressive 3.3 saves per 90 minutes, bettered by only one Championship goalkeeper. He carries a 71.3 save percentage, recorded the fourth-most clean sheets despite missing six fixtures during the festive period through injury, and has prevented the fourth-most goals in the division. It is unfortunate for him that Senne Lammens has arrived and made such an immediate impact at United, because had that not been the case, there would be little debate over who should be United’s first-choice goalkeeper next season. That said, with Altay Bayındır and Andre Onana both expected to leave in the summer, it will be fascinating to see whether Vitek can be convinced to stay, given his desire for regular football, or whether he will be sold. What is certain, however, is that if United do sell him, it could prove a decision they come to regret, given the big future Vitek appears destined for. United earmark £80m for marquee player as jaw-dropping war chest for midfield overhaul is revealed – report

Manchester United’s massive budget for strengthening the midfield has been revealed as summer transfer plans start to take shape. Midfield rebuild Heading into the upcoming window, United are expected to prioritise strengthening the middle of the park ahead of other areas of the pitch. In January, Casemiro confirmed that he will depart Old Trafford at the end of the season, once his contract expires. His brilliant form under Michael Carrick has sparked calls for him to stay for at least another year but a U-turn is not expected at this stage. There is also uncertainty over the future of Manuel Ugarte, whose time at United increasingly looks like it has come to an end. The Uruguayan has struggled to make an impact since making the switch from Paris Saint-Germain and there is a very good chance he will be moved on. These two factors, combined with the need to find ideal partners for Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, only make United’s need for midfield signings more urgent. United continue to be linked with a host of players including Elliot Anderson (Nottingham Forest), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Sandro Tonali (Newcastle), Carlos Baleba (Brighton & Hove Albion), Morgan Gibbs-White (Nottingham Forest) and Ederson (Atalanta). Sunday’s 3-2 win over Liverpool clinched Champions League football for United, securing a bigger transfer budget and making them a far more attractive option in the market. According to the Daily Mail, United are prepared to fork out as much as £150million on midfielders alone. Jaw-dropping investment The news outlet claims that United are ready to spend up to £150million on three brand new midfielders. “Daily Mail Sport understands that United have earmarked around £80m for a marquee signing to replace Casemiro, who will leave at the end of his contract despite hopes among some fans that he could extend his stay at Old Trafford.” “United are prepared to spend around £40m on another midfielder to replace Manuel Ugarte if they can get a reasonable price for the Uruguayan who cost £50m from Paris Saint-Germain two years ago.” “Despite tying Kobbie Mainoo to a new long-term contract, United could strengthen their squad by signing a third midfielder for about £20m. It’s understood that scouts have been monitoring the progress of Southampton’s Shea Charles.” Chris Wheeler explains that this is dependent on how much money is available, with United also keen on improving at left-wing, left-back, central defence and a back-up goalkeeper. The 20-time English champions hope to generate more funds from the sales of Rasmus Hojlund, Marcus Rashford, Andre Onana and Ugarte. Joshua Zirkzee could also be offloaded amidst his struggles for playing time. In addition to Casemiro, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are also set to be released as free agents. Ratcliffe edging closer to offloading OGC Nice after big breakthrough in sale process – report
Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is closing in on a sale of OGC Nice after the latest breakthrough. Tough sell Ratcliffe put Nice up for sale last May but he has had trouble finding suitors amidst his hefty £200million valuation. The INEOS billionaire’s time at the helm of the French club has been a story of turbulence and repeated false dawns. Under him, Nice have finished as high as fourth last season, while Franck Haise was in the dugout. However, Haise was sacked and replaced by former Leicester City boss Claude Puel, who currently has the club in 15th place, eight points above the relegation zone. Nice are staring at their lowest Ligue 1 finish since the 2013/14 campaign, a season that saw them end in 17th place. Context matters, though, as that was a 20-team league, whereas the competition has been trimmed to 18 teams since 2023. The displeasure of Nice fans with Ratcliffe’s management has been well documented, and it has only escalated further since he gained operational control of United. The British businessman has done himself no favours with remarks about the football being boring and confessing that watching Nice simply doesn’t stimulate him nearly enough. A report covered by The Peoples Person last month claimed that Ratcliffe had been forced to lower his valuation of Nice as his desperation to exit French football grows. Now, Nice-Matin reveal that Ratcliffe’s reduced price tag has attracted a handful of potential buyers. Nice boost for Ratcliffe According to the news outlet, “Things are moving behind the scenes regarding the sale of OGC Nice. Tasked last year by Ineos with finding a buyer, the Lazard bank has reportedly received various offers of interest in recent months.” “According to our information, a European fund and an American fund have begun discussions with the London-based organisation, and the investors from across the Atlantic, whose group identity has not been revealed, even recently participated in a visit to the training centre alongside Jean-Claude Blanc, the Chief Executive Officer of Ineos Sport.” Nice-Matin say that one issue complicating affairs is Nice’s difficult financial situation. This is making a sale slightly more difficult despite the lower asking fee. Ratcliffe remains “determined” to sell but for this to happen, it’s crucial that Nice guarantee their top-flight status first. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and his players are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland.
