Furious United hit out at shameful ruling on FA Youth Cup driven by Man City’s greed – report

Manchester United’s true feelings on the FA Youth Cup venue confirmation has been revealed. FA Youth Cup details announced Earlier on Wednesday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Manchester City will host United in the FA Youth Cup final at the Joie Stadium. United booked their spot in the final after overcoming Crystal Palace in the semi-final stage, courtesy of strikes from JJ Gabriel and Chido Obi. City were drawn as the home team for what will be the first Manchester derby to take place in an FA Youth Cup final since 1986. The overwhelming expectation was that the showpiece event would be held at the Etihad, but an agreement on a date at City’s man grounds could not be found. The game will therefore be staged at the Joie Stadium, which is reserved for the youth and women’s teams. It can accommodate 7,000 spectators. The FA released a statement which reads, “The date, kick-off time, venue and broadcast details for the 2025-26 FA Youth Cup Final have now been confirmed.” “Manchester City will play Manchester United on Thursday 14 May at the Joie Stadium. The Final will kick off at 19:00 BST and it will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.” The Daily Mail have now revealed how United feel about this development. United’s true stance According to the newspaper, Darren Fletcher’s side are “disappointed” at the decision to hold the match at City’s academy grounds. The two clubs had been in talks for long to the point that they will not meet the FA’s deadline of playing the game by May 9. The Mail further explain, “It is customary that the Youth Cup, the most prestigious tournament in academy football, hosts the final at a first-team stadium and City are the only club this century to use their academy ground for such an event.” “There have been whispers for weeks that a match beyond the end of the Premier League season was discussed as a potential option, while a switch to play it at Old Trafford was proposed by the FA rather than United.” “Sources close to United’s Under 18s team have expressed their disappointment to Confidential. They say it’s a shame that the first all-Manchester Youth Cup final since 1986 could not be played at the Etihad, but are keen not to fall out with their neighbours over it.” It is said that City were not willing to give up home advantage. The Blues insist that the Etihad is not available for use due to ongoing construction on the North Stand ahead of a planned test event on May 20. When United last appeared in an FA Youth Cup final, they drew over 67,000 fans to Old Trafford, with the squad featuring the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and his players are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. United lead race for tricky 19-yo winger, just £23m will surely seal Old Trafford switch – report

A left winger is top of the agenda at Manchester United this summer. In looking to assemble Ruben Amorim‘s dream team, INEOS inadvertently let go of their natural left wingers. Allowing Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho to leave meant United no longer had that profile in their ranks, not that they necessarily needed one, given the shift from using wingers to playing double tens under Amorim. However, with Amorim gone and a tactical reset required, moving away from his system was quickly seen as the way forward. Left winger needed Suddenly, United find themselves with little choice but to pursue a left winger. Several exciting options have since been linked, though with much of the transfer budget earmarked for a midfield overhaul, United may not be able to spend heavily in that area. However, what if they could land a left winger for as little as £23 million? Prince Amoako Jnr linked My Joy Online have published an interesting report placing United in a strong position to sign Ghana’s exciting winger prospect Prince Amoako Jnr. MJO writes: “French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Ghanaian youngster Prince Amoako Jnr from FC Nordsjaelland.” They then go on to explain: “Both clubs are understood to have expressed strong interest in the 19-year-old attacker, with a potential transfer fee believed to be in the region of €27 million to €32 million.” 🇬🇭 Prince Amoako Junior for FC Nordsjaelland in the league this season: • Most goal contributions – 7• Most goals scored – 5• Joint-most big chances created – 3• Joint-2nd for assists – 2 The winger is excelling in his first full season of senior football. pic.twitter.com/52tuLkdhL6 — Owuraku Ampofo (@_owurakuampofo) November 2, 2025 That is the kind of revelation that should have United fans sitting up and taking notice. Amoako Jnr is in high demand Amoako Jnr is one of the hottest prospects in European football right now. Top Spanish and Italian sides have also registered their interest, while Arsenal, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund are all said to want the teenage sensation, who has caught the eye with his pace, direct running, and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. He has the profile to become a key attacking outlet for any side, and his eight goals and five assists this season only hint at just how dangerous an attacker he is becoming. Securing the Ghanaian at that price (at least £23 million) would represent real value, freeing up precious funds to bolster both the midfield and defence as United look to take the 2026-27 season by storm. Manchester United’s return to the Champions League should help INEOS when it comes to recruiting top players in the summer. Midfield is the most pressing issue at present, while there are plans to strengthen at the back as well. A return to Europe’s premier club competition should also help the club convince Bruno Fernandes remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. Last summer, the club captain was close to leaving for the riches of the Middle East, but his wife and former head coach Ruben Amorim persuaded him to stay. Bruno Fernandes continues to be linked with an exit What a great decision that proved to be with the Portuguese superstar back in top form under caretaker head coach Michael Carrick and gunning for the Premier League’s single season assist record. The 31-year-old’s current deal is valid until 2027, and while the Red Devils are planning to offer him a contract extension, until a new deal is agreed, foreign clubs continue to lurk with interest. Bayern Munich were linked with a move not too long ago, and now, as per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Galatasaray are also keen on a blockbuster deal. The Turkish giants are in the market for an elite attacking midfielder, and there are few better players in that position than Bruno Fernandes. Galatasaray plotting ambitious move for Bruno Fernandes While the Istanbul giants see the Portugal international as their dream target, as things stand, a move looks unlikely. The United No.8 is keen to stay at the Theatre of Dreams and represent the club in the Champions League. And a new contract offer is expected to be submitted by the club soon. 🚨🆕 Galatasaray want to make headlines again with spectacular transfers in the summer. He was and still is the ultimate dream target. United’s response already well known “They want to get in contact with his camp again, but do not see realistic chances, as Fernandes can play Champions League football with Manchester United.” United have already agreed new deals with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire recently, and INEOS should hurry up with their contract proposal for Bruno Fernandes to end rumours once and for all. Cause for concern: United’s problems go way beyond who they hire as manager – opinion

Manchester United fans are feeling optimistic about the club’s future after their 3-2 win over Liverpool at the weekend which confirmed their qualification for next season’s edition of the Champions League. Michael Carrick has defied all expectations as an interim manager and while there may be a few doubts lingering here or there, most supporters would agree giving him the job is the right call. Giving the position to someone else now is just as risky as leaving it in Carrick’s hands, though he will need to be better supported by the decision-makers at the club. There is one notable matter that’s come up from all of the circus surrounding his potential long-term appointment that should concern fans, and that is Sir Jim Ratcliffe, or at least what has been reported on him.   …. The Athletic previously revealed Carrick’s personality didn’t align with what Ratcliffe would typically go for as he’s normally drawn to more alpha type characters. Recently, more reports have come out claiming the former midfielder’s calm and composed demeanour won the co-owner over. Whatever the case may be about Sir Jim’s feelings towards Carrick, the trouble is, it shouldn’t matter and we shouldn’t know about it, let alone read constant briefings in the news. The owners of any club’s job should just be financial support and having a say in the appointment of a CEO. From there, everything else should be left to the CEO and the rest of the senior leadership team.   …. What’s the point in hiring all the experts and apparent best in class staff members if in the end Ratcliffe, with no experience or expertise in football, has a veto or a say in the decision of the managerial appointment. If it’s true that he does, then things are no different to the Glazers’ so-called leadership of United. Leave the experts to make the decision and if they fail, you can sack them and bring in other people who make the right call. Don’t go on an ego trip and think you can make the decision or be involved in the finer details in this kind of way.   …. A good CEO and director of football would get these calls right, otherwise why hire them if you’re concerned to this extent? United might hire Carrick and enjoy plenty of success but if he has these conditions hanging over his head, the success will be in spite of the circumstances and not because of the circumstances. It’s probably because of these conditions that Thomas Tuchel previously turned United down and why Luis Enrique seems to have no real interest in joining either. Elite managers who want to avoid the mess that is Old Trafford. One day we’ll have the right people making the right decisions but my god has it been a painful process to get there. Euro giants’ key discovery boosts chances of modern-day Berbatov staying at United – report

Joshua Zirkzee’s chances of staying at Manchester United have been significantly boosted by the latest reports emerging from Italy. Unfortunately for Zirkzee, his United career has never truly taken off. Whether under Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, or even caretaker head coach Michael Carrick, the Dutch striker has simply not been able to secure a starting spot. Modern-day Berbatov Zirkzee has been likened to former United star Dimitar Berbatov, drawing comparisons for his technical elegance, high football intelligence, and unique ability to drop deep and link play. Much like the languid Bulgarian genius, he plays at his own pace, bringing a calm, skilful tempo to the pitch. However, as fast-paced as the Premier League is, his style leaves some fans frustrated, since they feel he is sluggish and simply not suited to it. Even so, there are those who believe he can still make it at Old Trafford. They point to how he knits play together and brings control whenever he is on the pitch as reasons why he still deserves his chances at United. Should Zirkzee leave, it is Italian champions Napoli who have been strongly pushing for his services. However, while the striker is likely being tempted by a move to Naples, an issue has emerged that could see the deal fall through. Napoli now unsure of pursuing Joshua Zirkzee As per Corriere del Mezzogiorno via Sport Witness, “Zirkzee’s current wage packet of €4.3m a year could tempt Napoli to look elsewhere this summer.” Consequently, should Napoli cool their interest, that would naturally lessen the chances of the 24-year-old’s potential United exit. And given he was never being pushed out the door, it only reinforces United’s hopes of holding on to him. Zirkzee can still turn his fortune at United This season, the striker may not have received many chances, yet with a return to Champions League football comes more games and greater opportunity. Zirkzee, who has made no fuss over his limited game time and has continued to cheer on his teammates, could yet earn the chance to prove his worth. United’s hopes of signing PL dynamo soar as he’s now “expected to be sold” on one condition – Ben Jacobs

Manchester United’s hopes of striking a deal for Mateus Fernandes have increased as an exit from West Ham will happen on one condition, according to a transfer expert. Midfield Rebuild The Red Devils are planning to direct the majority of their summer war chest towards rebuilding their midfield. Casemiro‘s time in M16 is coming to an end as his contract will expire in May, while the continued struggles of Manuel Ugarte mean INEOS are now actively looking to replace the 25-year-old Uruguayan. This leaves Kobbie Mainoo, who scored the winner against Liverpool on Sunday after signing a new five-year contract last week, as the sole option in the engine room with a guaranteed future at the club. Accordingly, at least two – but potentially three if a buyer can be found for Ugarte – midfielders are expected to arrive at Old Trafford in a defining window for the hierarchy. The primary target is Elliot Anderson, though Manchester City are considered frontrunners for the Nottingham Forest powerhouse. Sandro Tonali, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton also feature highly on the radar. But Fernandes, West Ham’s 21-year-old box-to-box dynamo, is quickly emerging as a highly rated alternative, with his compatriot and namesake, Bruno, understood to be a huge fan of the youngster. A report relayed by The Peoples Person revealed the Hammers see the former Sporting Clube de Portugal star as a “cornerstone” of their project, and would refuse to sell even if they are relegated from the Premier League. Big-Money Exit is Expected Ben Jacobs claims this resolute stance is not true, however, with Fernandes “expected” to depart should his side be unable to survive the drop. “As reported last month, Mateus Fernandes is on Manchester United’s list of midfield options. [He is] expected to be sold if West Ham go down,” the talkSPORT reporter states. This is a major boost for United as last weekend’s fixtures shifted the balance in favour of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham’s main relegation rival, after the north London side beat Aston Villa 2-1. Meanwhile, Fernandes could do little to help Nuno Espirito Santo’s men avoid a chastening 3-0 defeat at the hands of Brentford, leaving them in the bottom three, one point behind Tottenham Hotspur with a worse goal difference and a clash with table toppers Arsenal on Sunday. West Ham signed the Portugal international for £40 million from Southampton last summer after the Saints faced their own descent into the Championship. If able to avoid a similar fate, the fee they could command for their prized asset would be far in excess of this outlay. But if, as looks increasingly likely, they cannot, their negotiating position will be torpedoed – and so too will his price. Final Thoughts Fernandes is a jack-of-all-trades midfielder, capable of playing in a variety of roles in the centre of the pitch. He pairs this versatility with excellent technique and a level of physicality that has allowed him to thrive in English football in a way Ugarte cannot. While fans at the London Stadium will be devastated to see their side finish in the bottom three, it will be music to the ears of the executive branch at Old Trafford as United look to add more energy and quality to their stalling engine room. “Could have been absolutely fantastic”: Schmeichel predicts United will regret selling 23-yo powerhouse

Legendary former Manchester United shot-stopper Peter Schmeichel believes the club are on the verge of making a huge mistake in the upcoming transfer window. The former Denmark international signed for the Red Devils for an approximate fee of £500,000 and went on to make 398 appearances for the club, keeping an astonishing 180 clean sheets. Across an eight-year spell at the club, Schmeichel won five Premier League titles, three FA Cups, and captained the team in the 1999 Champions League final, helping the team to complete the historic treble. Impressive recent recruitment After a number of poor signings over the last decade, including big-money flops Antony, Andre Onana and Jadon Sancho, the club enjoyed a stellar transfer window last summer. Bryan Mbuemo, Matheus Cunha, and Benjamin Sesko were signed to reinvent the Red Devils’ forward line, and the trio have certainly done just that. Between them, the three players have over thirty goal involvements, and all of them have certainly benefitted from Bruno Fernandes‘ potentially record-breaking season. Moreover, young Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens was brought in to replace Andre Onana and has brought some much-needed stability between the sticks. The talented young stopper has kept six clean sheets in a truly impressive debut season. Fans will be hoping United can produce a similarly brilliant performance in the transfer market this season to bulk out the squad for the upcoming return to the Champions League. Are United making an error? While United’s recent recruitment has been rightfully lauded by many, Schmeichel is worried the Red Devils might live to regret potentially selling his compatriot, Rasmus Hojlund. The 23-year-old Dane, who was signed for £72 million, enjoyed a solid debut season at the club, finding the back of the net 16 times in all competitions. He struggled during his second season, though, managing to score only four goals and often drifting on the periphery of games. This resulted in the club loaning the young striker to Napoli for the season. “I think the deal is if Napoli qualify for the Champions League then they are obliged to sign Rasmus Hojlund permanently,” Schmeichel said on ‘The Good, The Bad & The Football’ podcast. “So that’s a bit of a shame because I like Hojlund by the way and think he could have been absolutely fantastic.” “But I don’t think he wants to come back and I don’t think he can because Napoli have already qualified for the Champions League.” Nicky Butt agreed with the sentiment, and even expressed concerns that Sesko could wind up with a similar fate. He said, “What they did with Hojlund was wrong because they brought a young boy in who’s not got any Premier League experience and asked him to carry Manchester United.” “I’m scared they’re going to do that with Sesko. I know Sesko has done really well of late but they still need to get another centre forward, we had four top players in that position.” Only time will tell if Hojlund does leave Old Trafford and whether Schmeichel is right and the hierarchy at Old Trafford will live to regret their decision. United’s surprise interest in record-breaking manager sparks strong response from PL rival – report

Manchester United have been on a roll under caretaker manager Michael Carrick, who remains an option for the full-time position at Old Trafford. However, that has not stopped the Red Devils from being linked to several managerial candidates ahead of the summer. INEOS have had some poor luck with their managerial appointments and will be hoping to get third time lucky this year. Former head coach Ruben Amorim was appointed by United’s minority owners after a lot of background work, but his tenure turned out to be a disappointment. The Portuguese head coach had an underwhelming 14-month spell at the Theatre of Dreams, and left in January with the club’s top-four hopes uncertain. Amorim’s future was also subject to speculation last summer after a 15th-placed finish in the Premier League last season. The Portuguese survived the summer but had an underwhelming start to the new campaign, prompting speculation about his future. It was during that time that Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hurzeler was named as a possible replacement for the former Sporting manager. Hurzeler’s rise at the Amex Hurzeler arrived at the Amex in the summer of 2024, becoming the youngest permanent coach in Premier League history. The German soon added to his reputation as one of the most exciting young coaches in the world, and transformed Brighton into a well-drilled attacking unit. Hurzeler has already displayed tactical flexibility, with his team playing intense attacking football and working extremely hard on the pitch. United had no answer to his tactics earlier this year in the FA Cup third round, losing the game 2-1 and exiting the tournament. Darren Fletcher was in charge for that game in mid-January as interim manager following United’s decision to sack Amorim. The English giants were looking for some stability and appointed Carrick as the Portuguese’s temporary replacement a couple of days later. Carrick, meanwhile, has already confirmed participation in next season’s Champions League by registering 10 wins and two draws in his 14 games in charge. United are third in the league table with three games remaining, and the focus has now shifted to the managerial selection process. Several Premier League candidates have been named as options for the role, and it now appears that Hurzeler was also in the mix. United considered Fabian Hurzeler According to TEAMtalk, United briefly considered Hurzeler for the permanent position, but the German is now expected to sign a new deal at the Amex. The report states: “Brighton have moved decisively to secure the long-term future of head coach Fabian Hurzeler, with TEAMtalk able to confirm that the highly-rated German has agreed a new deal with the club.” “We can also reveal that Manchester United had also done some work on him as part of their ongoing managerial hunt, though the Red Devils’ co-owners, INEOS, have long been convinced by Michael Carrick and were simply doing due diligence on alternatives should their first choice fail.” A recent report relayed by The Peoples Person also states that United now consider Carrick as the frontrunner for the permanent position. Final Thoughts Hurzeler has been a revelation for the Seagulls, but as things stand, Carrick appears to be the best candidate for the position. With Champions League qualification secure, it is hard to look beyond the Englishman at the moment.
