Joshua Zirkzee’s chances of staying at Manchester United have been significantly boosted by the latest reports emerging from Italy. Unfortunately for Zirkzee, his United career has never truly taken off. Whether under Erik ten Hag, Ruben Amorim, or even caretaker head coach Michael Carrick, the Dutch striker has simply not been able to secure a starting spot. Modern-day Berbatov Zirkzee has been likened to former United star Dimitar Berbatov, drawing comparisons for his technical elegance, high football intelligence, and unique ability to drop deep and link play. Much like the languid Bulgarian genius, he plays at his own pace, bringing a calm, skilful tempo to the pitch. However, as fast-paced as the Premier League is, his style leaves some fans frustrated, since they feel he is sluggish and simply not suited to it. Even so, there are those who believe he can still make it at Old Trafford. They point to how he knits play together and brings control whenever he is on the pitch as reasons why he still deserves his chances at United. Should Zirkzee leave, it is Italian champions Napoli who have been strongly pushing for his services. However, while the striker is likely being tempted by a move to Naples, an issue has emerged that could see the deal fall through. Napoli now unsure of pursuing Joshua Zirkzee As per Corriere del Mezzogiorno via Sport Witness, “Zirkzee’s current wage packet of €4.3m a year could tempt Napoli to look elsewhere this summer.” Consequently, should Napoli cool their interest, that would naturally lessen the chances of the 24-year-old’s potential United exit. And given he was never being pushed out the door, it only reinforces United’s hopes of holding on to him. Zirkzee can still turn his fortune at United This season, the striker may not have received many chances, yet with a return to Champions League football comes more games and greater opportunity. Zirkzee, who has made no fuss over his limited game time and has continued to cheer on his teammates, could yet earn the chance to prove his worth.
