United superstar’s summer preference comes to light as financial roadblocks linger – report

Manchester United are preparing to part ways with one of their most in-form stars once the current Premier League campaign concludes. Casemiro, who is enjoying his most prolific season in front of goal, is all set to depart with his current deal set to expire. The Red Devils had the option of triggering a one-year extension clause, but both the player and the club mutually agreed to waive that clause. The defensive midfielder, who has nine goals this term, will be a huge miss, especially in both boxes but it has been clear for a while that the 20-time English league champions need a more mobile option in the middle of the park. Inter Miami leading the race for Casemiro While the 34-year-old’s teammates and the fans want him to stay for one more season, the former Real Madrid superstar has categorically ruled out a change of heart. As previously relayed by The Peoples Person, Inter Miami are currently in pole position to land the five-time Champions League winner, despite the interest of Saudi Pro League sides. Casemiro has been to Florida with his family on vacation and likes the place. Complications have arisen due to LA Galaxy’s entry into the race. However, The Daily Mail have reported that the Brazil international prefers to reunite with former Barcelona rival Lionel Messi at Miami. LA Galaxy have complicated matters However, the Herons, owned by United legend Sir David Beckham, will first need to make space within their wage structure before signing off on the deal. In fact, even a pay cut could be in order for Casemiro, if he is to play alongside Messi at the Nu Stadium. “The decision not to extend Casemiro’s £375,000-a-week deal was made by the club, and United are sticking by that decision as they search for a replacement. “The 34-year-old will leave as a free agent and is understood to prefer Lionel Messi’s Miami side over LA Galaxy if he moves to Major League Soccer. Wage issues need to be solved if Inter Miami are to land Casemiro “Casemiro’s family are said to be keen on a move to Florida after going on holiday there, and the player wants the opportunity to play alongside Messi. “David Beckham’s club would still need to create some space within their wage structure to comply with MLS rules, and Casemiro would have to take a pay cut, but a deal now seems on the cards.” While an exit is guaranteed, United fans will be hoping to see more goals from the Brazilian maestro in the remaining three league games before he leaves the Theatre of Dreams for good. Fierce PL rivals were close to signing Kobbie Mainoo until Carrick spared INEOS’ blushes – report

What a week it has been for Manchester United’s midfield wonderkid, Kobbie Mainoo. First, the Carrington graduate signed a contract extension that will keep him at his boyhood club until 2031. Just days later, he popped up to score the winner against fierce rivals, Liverpool, to secure United’s qualification for the Champions League after a two-year absence. What makes his journey even more remarkable is that the midfield ace came dangerously close to leaving under former head coach Ruben Amorim. Kobbie Mainoo did not have the trust of Amorim The Portuguese tactician felt the 21-year-old did not fit his rigid system, and played Bruno Fernandes in a deeper role ahead of the Englishman. The pair’s working relationship got so fragile that the England international asked INEOS to let him leave, with multiple clubs all across Europe chasing his signature. Napoli were eyeing a loan move, and according to The Daily Mail, fierce Premier League rivals, Arsenal, were leading the queue domestically. “As inconceivable as Mainoo leaving United would seem now, the disillusioned youngster came very close to going during his exile under Ruben Amorim and there would have been no shortage of takers. Arsenal came close to signing Kobbie Mainoo “Besides Napoli, who were Mainoo’s preferred destination for a loan move, Confidential understands Arsenal were at the front of the queue of Premier League clubs waiting to see how the situation played out. “Mainoo stayed and the Gunners will be one of the clubs competing with United in the midfield market this summer.” It would have been a huge mistake to let the talented Stockport-born ace depart irrespective of Diogo Dalot’s bizarre comments, and thankfully, Michael Carrick‘s arrival has changed his fortunes. Now among the first names on the teamsheet, fans will be buzzing to see Kobbie Mainoo strut his stuff, having overcome those dark days under Amorim. Carrick’s warrior nominated for prestigious award dominated by United players

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo celebrated signing a new contract at Old Trafford by inspiring his team to a 3-2 win against bitter rivals Liverpool over the weekend. The Red Devils hosted the Merseyside club at the Theatre of Dreams on Sunday, 3 May, with both teams battling to solidify their pursuit of a top-four finish. Michael Carrick’s men took a 2-0 lead into the break, thanks to goals from Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko. However, Liverpool fought back through Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo to get back into the game early in the second half. Mainoo had been dictating the tempo of the game from the middle of the park, and he stepped up in the 77th minute to put the ball into the back of the net. The result confirmed United’s participation in next season’s Champions League, and also consolidated their position in third place in the Premier League table with three games remaining. The English midfielder’s efforts, meanwhile, have now earned him a nomination for a prestigious award. Mainoo among nominees for prestigious award The Premier League has announced the nominees for the Premier League Player of the Matchweek award, and Mainoo has been included in the seven-man shortlist. Also in the mix are Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi, who helped secure a 3-1 win over Chelsea, and Everton’s Thierno Barry, who played a key role in the 3-3 draw against Manchester City. City’s Jeremy Doku also makes the cut, as does Tottenham Hotspur’s Conor Gallagher, who was impressive in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa. Arsenal duo Viktor Gyokere and Bukayo Saka are also in the running for the prestigious award after helping the Gunners pick up a 3-0 win over Fulham. The nomination marks Mainoo’s impressive turnaround at United. From being ignored by former head coach Ruben Amorim, the English midfielder has now become the centrepiece of caretaker manager Michael Carrick’s team. Mainoo has started 13 of the English manager’s 14 games in charge, and the only game he missed was the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United when he was unavailable due to injury. The 21 year old signed a new contract until 2031 last week, and this latest accolade further highlights his importance to United. Benjamin Sesko beat the competition in Matchweek 21, while Casemiro was the most recent winner, in Matchweek 34, after his masterclass against Brentford. Mainoo will be hoping to join the group next, with the winner set to be announced on Wednesday, 6 May. Final Thoughts Carrick has played a key role in Mainoo’s return to prominence. With the Englishman likely to take charge as United’s permanent manager this summer, one can expect more fireworks from the young midfielder next season. “No chance”: Resurgent United star drops definitive update on his Old Trafford future

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has stressed that there is “no chance” of him staying at the club beyond the end of the season, despite fans calling for him to carry on. Revived Enjoying a brilliant season, Casemiro is delivering a fitting swansong as his United career edges toward its end. In January, he announced that he will depart the club at the end of the campaign, once his contract expires. United had the option to keep him for another 12 months but chose not to exercise it, presumably to remove his massive wages from the books. Casemiro has stepped up to another level ever since Michael Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim in the dugout. He has started every game under Carrick, regularly delivering decisive performances. He has been pivotal in United’s run to securing Champions League football. The Brazilian has notched an impressive nine goals in 33 Premier League appearances. It is the most prolific season of his career. On multiple occasions now, especially when he has found the back of the net, United fans have been heard chanting “One more year!” “One more year!” A model professional, Casemiro’s work ethic has always resonated with supporters and it’s no surprise that they have been calling for an extension of his stay. However, United are not expected to perform a turnaround. Carrick is on record saying this, and Casemiro has now reaffirmed it, explaining that it’s because he wants to bow out while still at the peak of his powers. Casemiro confirms stance Speaking to ESPN, Casemiro explained, “I don’t think there’s a chance [that he stays], there’s no chance.” “Mostly because of what I said, you know? Go out the big door, I think it was four beautiful, wonderful years and I am eternally grateful not only to the club, but to the fans.” “But I think I have to leave in good terms, I have to go out on top. I will be an eternal United fan here in England and I just have to thank all the love from the fans.” Carrick deserves the job Casemiro threw his full support behind Carrick being handed the United hot seat on a permanent basis. He told ESPN, “In my opinion, he completely deserves it [the Manchester United job], I think he’s a guy who has already demonstrated that he has very good qualities to be a Manchester United coach.” “So it’s not up to me to choose, it’s up to the club. But if I could give my opinion, of course he deserves it, and he deserves the club’s total trust. Of course, the season is year-round, but since he arrived, he’s been doing an incredible job and I think that with more time he has everything to be a great manager of Manchester United.” The five-time Champions League winner added, “He’s a coach who knows the club, he’s a coach who was an idol at the club, he’s a coach who played a lot, won titles here, knows what the club is like, he knows what Manchester United is. So, full credit to the coach and there wasn’t much time, that for me was one of the big surprises, because he entered the middle of a troubled season.” “And the games, when he arrived, were not so much those games that we say to gain confidence, although in the Premier League there were not so many games like that, but those games, so there have already been difficult games.” “And the guy arrived and managed to change the club and me in particular, even more so because he was a former player, a midfielder. I’m happy for the person he is, the guy is a sensational person, an incredible person, and he deserves everything that’s happening in his career.” Titles While there is much jubilation at United securing being back in the Champions League after a two-year absence, Casemiro believes the club should be aiming for a lot more. “When it comes to United, I always say that you have to think about titles, you always have to think about winning, about winning titles.” “Even more so, I’ve always liked to win titles, so I don’t think it’s an ideal season, but it’s a good season, especially because of the circumstance. But, I say again, you have to think about titles — United can’t be content with third place.” “United must always be thinking about titles and thinking about winning at the top of the table. And that for me has to be United’s thinking, circumstances, third place, very good, playing Champions League next year is another European competition, but it has to be more — United must always be more.” Casemiro and his teammates are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. United’s reasoning emerges as club pulls plug on awards night despite securing CL football – report

Manchester United have reportedly cancelled their end-of-season player awards night for the third year in a row despite qualifying for the Champions League. Champions League football secured The 3-2 victory over Liverpool on Sunday not only saw United complete the double over Liverpool for the first time in a decade, but also assured them of a spot in next season’s Champions League. Kobbie Mainoo bagged the winner in the 77th minute of proceedings after Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko’s strikes in the first half were wiped out by Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo, who ruthlessly punished United’s mistakes. The triumph means that Michael Carrick has now registered 10 victories since he was named Ruben Amorim’s temporary replacement at the start of the year. No other club in the Premier League has picked up more points than United since Carrick’s arrival. The case for Carrick to be handed the job on a permanent basis is growing stronger with each passing match and there have been suggestions that talks to this effect will begin imminently. Speaking to reporters after the final whistle, Carrick insisted that the role feels “natural” to him and he is enjoying every minute of it. Despite the success United have enjoyed under Carrick, which has them on course to finish in third place, the Daily Mail reveal that the Red Devils will not hold an end-of-season player awards night. United pull the plug United scrapped the gala event at Old Trafford in 2024 after finishing eighth in the Premier League, although they won the FA Cup at the expense of cross-town rivals Manchester City. The celebration was cancelled again the following year after a 15th-placed finish and Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. The Daily Mail explain, “It has been decided to honour any personal achievements among the men’s and women’s teams in a more private setting at Carrington later this month.” “Sources say the decision is not so much a reflection on a rollercoaster campaign – at 40 games, United’s shortest since the First World War because they weren’t in Europe and fell at the first hurdle in both domestic cup competitions – and more because of a move away from gala awards nights.” Meanwhile, United return to action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. Kick-off is at 15:00 BST. Featured image Carl recine via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade. United turn to Ligue 1 dribbling wizard with 19 g/a to supercharge their attack – report

It is the worst-kept secret that Manchester United are scouring the market for a left winger. The club currently has no natural left wingers in their ranks. Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho once filled that role, but with their futures now lying elsewhere, United must dive into the transfer market and emerge with their replacements. Some fantastic wingers have already been linked, of course. Ilmane Ndiaye and Yan Diomandé are among those most heavily touted. United take winger search to Ligue 1 Now, however, A Bola have highlighted that beyond that duo, the 20-time English champions could turn to a Ligue 1 standout to bolster their left wing. The Portuguese outlet report: “European sharks are circling Afonso Moreira after the “explosion” in Lyon. “United is one of the clubs that have shown interest and have the Portuguese player’s name on their radar.” Why Afonso Moreira? Looking at Afonso Moreira’s numbers, eight goals and 11 assists in 35 games this season, it is easy to understand why United are keen on him. The 21-year-old has been a revelation for Olympique Lyonnais, who must consider themselves transfer geniuses, having secured him for just £1.7 million from Sporting CP. He is now establishing himself as a modern winger, with sharp acceleration in tight spaces and a fine ability in one-v-one situations. With a €10 million (£8.6m) market value, INEOS must sense a potential bargain here, and should feel confident they will not need to splash the extraordinary figures other wingers are currently commanding. There is a complication, though. A Bola report that Lyon may offer Moreira a new contract to keep him in France. But even if they opt to cash in instead, United would not have a free run at him. A host of top European sides are also tracking the winger, whose sale would see Sporting pocket 20% of the transfer fee from their sell-on clause. Furious United hit out at shameful ruling on FA Youth Cup driven by Man City’s greed – report

Manchester United’s true feelings on the FA Youth Cup venue confirmation has been revealed. FA Youth Cup details announced Earlier on Wednesday, a report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that Manchester City will host United in the FA Youth Cup final at the Joie Stadium. United booked their spot in the final after overcoming Crystal Palace in the semi-final stage, courtesy of strikes from JJ Gabriel and Chido Obi. City were drawn as the home team for what will be the first Manchester derby to take place in an FA Youth Cup final since 1986. The overwhelming expectation was that the showpiece event would be held at the Etihad, but an agreement on a date at City’s man grounds could not be found. The game will therefore be staged at the Joie Stadium, which is reserved for the youth and women’s teams. It can accommodate 7,000 spectators. The FA released a statement which reads, “The date, kick-off time, venue and broadcast details for the 2025-26 FA Youth Cup Final have now been confirmed.” “Manchester City will play Manchester United on Thursday 14 May at the Joie Stadium. The Final will kick off at 19:00 BST and it will be broadcast live on TNT Sports 1.” The Daily Mail have now revealed how United feel about this development. United’s true stance According to the newspaper, Darren Fletcher’s side are “disappointed” at the decision to hold the match at City’s academy grounds. The two clubs had been in talks for long to the point that they will not meet the FA’s deadline of playing the game by May 9. The Mail further explain, “It is customary that the Youth Cup, the most prestigious tournament in academy football, hosts the final at a first-team stadium and City are the only club this century to use their academy ground for such an event.” “There have been whispers for weeks that a match beyond the end of the Premier League season was discussed as a potential option, while a switch to play it at Old Trafford was proposed by the FA rather than United.” “Sources close to United’s Under 18s team have expressed their disappointment to Confidential. They say it’s a shame that the first all-Manchester Youth Cup final since 1986 could not be played at the Etihad, but are keen not to fall out with their neighbours over it.” It is said that City were not willing to give up home advantage. The Blues insist that the Etihad is not available for use due to ongoing construction on the North Stand ahead of a planned test event on May 20. When United last appeared in an FA Youth Cup final, they drew over 67,000 fans to Old Trafford, with the squad featuring the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. Meanwhile, Michael Carrick and his players are next in action on Saturday when they go away to Sunderland. United lead race for tricky 19-yo winger, just £23m will surely seal Old Trafford switch – report

A left winger is top of the agenda at Manchester United this summer. In looking to assemble Ruben Amorim‘s dream team, INEOS inadvertently let go of their natural left wingers. Allowing Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Alejandro Garnacho to leave meant United no longer had that profile in their ranks, not that they necessarily needed one, given the shift from using wingers to playing double tens under Amorim. However, with Amorim gone and a tactical reset required, moving away from his system was quickly seen as the way forward. Left winger needed Suddenly, United find themselves with little choice but to pursue a left winger. Several exciting options have since been linked, though with much of the transfer budget earmarked for a midfield overhaul, United may not be able to spend heavily in that area. However, what if they could land a left winger for as little as £23 million? Prince Amoako Jnr linked My Joy Online have published an interesting report placing United in a strong position to sign Ghana’s exciting winger prospect Prince Amoako Jnr. MJO writes: “French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Ghanaian youngster Prince Amoako Jnr from FC Nordsjaelland.” They then go on to explain: “Both clubs are understood to have expressed strong interest in the 19-year-old attacker, with a potential transfer fee believed to be in the region of €27 million to €32 million.” 🇬🇭 Prince Amoako Junior for FC Nordsjaelland in the league this season: • Most goal contributions – 7• Most goals scored – 5• Joint-most big chances created – 3• Joint-2nd for assists – 2 The winger is excelling in his first full season of senior football. pic.twitter.com/52tuLkdhL6 — Owuraku Ampofo (@_owurakuampofo) November 2, 2025 That is the kind of revelation that should have United fans sitting up and taking notice. Amoako Jnr is in high demand Amoako Jnr is one of the hottest prospects in European football right now. Top Spanish and Italian sides have also registered their interest, while Arsenal, RB Leipzig, and Borussia Dortmund are all said to want the teenage sensation, who has caught the eye with his pace, direct running, and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations. He has the profile to become a key attacking outlet for any side, and his eight goals and five assists this season only hint at just how dangerous an attacker he is becoming. Securing the Ghanaian at that price (at least £23 million) would represent real value, freeing up precious funds to bolster both the midfield and defence as United look to take the 2026-27 season by storm. Manchester United’s return to the Champions League should help INEOS when it comes to recruiting top players in the summer. Midfield is the most pressing issue at present, while there are plans to strengthen at the back as well. A return to Europe’s premier club competition should also help the club convince Bruno Fernandes remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future. Last summer, the club captain was close to leaving for the riches of the Middle East, but his wife and former head coach Ruben Amorim persuaded him to stay. Bruno Fernandes continues to be linked with an exit What a great decision that proved to be with the Portuguese superstar back in top form under caretaker head coach Michael Carrick and gunning for the Premier League’s single season assist record. The 31-year-old’s current deal is valid until 2027, and while the Red Devils are planning to offer him a contract extension, until a new deal is agreed, foreign clubs continue to lurk with interest. Bayern Munich were linked with a move not too long ago, and now, as per Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Galatasaray are also keen on a blockbuster deal. The Turkish giants are in the market for an elite attacking midfielder, and there are few better players in that position than Bruno Fernandes. Galatasaray plotting ambitious move for Bruno Fernandes While the Istanbul giants see the Portugal international as their dream target, as things stand, a move looks unlikely. United’s response already well known “They want to get in contact with his camp again, but do not see realistic chances, as Fernandes can play Champions League football with Manchester United.” United have already agreed new deals with Kobbie Mainoo and Harry Maguire recently, and INEOS should hurry up with their contract proposal for Bruno Fernandes to end rumours once and for all. Cause for concern: United’s problems go way beyond who they hire as manager – opinion

Manchester United fans are feeling optimistic about the club’s future after their 3-2 win over Liverpool at the weekend which confirmed their qualification for next season’s edition of the Champions League. Michael Carrick has defied all expectations as an interim manager and while there may be a few doubts lingering here or there, most supporters would agree giving him the job is the right call. Giving the position to someone else now is just as risky as leaving it in Carrick’s hands, though he will need to be better supported by the decision-makers at the club. There is one notable matter that’s come up from all of the circus surrounding his potential long-term appointment that should concern fans, and that is Sir Jim Ratcliffe, or at least what has been reported on him.   …. The Athletic previously revealed Carrick’s personality didn’t align with what Ratcliffe would typically go for as he’s normally drawn to more alpha type characters. Recently, more reports have come out claiming the former midfielder’s calm and composed demeanour won the co-owner over. Whatever the case may be about Sir Jim’s feelings towards Carrick, the trouble is, it shouldn’t matter and we shouldn’t know about it, let alone read constant briefings in the news. The owners of any club’s job should just be financial support and having a say in the appointment of a CEO. From there, everything else should be left to the CEO and the rest of the senior leadership team.   …. What’s the point in hiring all the experts and apparent best in class staff members if in the end Ratcliffe, with no experience or expertise in football, has a veto or a say in the decision of the managerial appointment. If it’s true that he does, then things are no different to the Glazers’ so-called leadership of United. Leave the experts to make the decision and if they fail, you can sack them and bring in other people who make the right call. Don’t go on an ego trip and think you can make the decision or be involved in the finer details in this kind of way.   …. A good CEO and director of football would get these calls right, otherwise why hire them if you’re concerned to this extent? United might hire Carrick and enjoy plenty of success but if he has these conditions hanging over his head, the success will be in spite of the circumstances and not because of the circumstances. It’s probably because of these conditions that Thomas Tuchel previously turned United down and why Luis Enrique seems to have no real interest in joining either. Elite managers who want to avoid the mess that is Old Trafford. One day we’ll have the right people making the right decisions but my god has it been a painful process to get there.
