“I was a little bit astonished”: Former United boss opens the lid on the number of offers he got after leaving Old Trafford

    “i-was-a-little-bit-astonished”:-former-united-boss-opens-the-lid-on-the-number-of-offers-he-got-after-leaving-old-trafford

Manchester United’s 4-0 victory over Everton at Old Trafford on Sunday was Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League win since taking over and it came on his home league debut.

While the Portuguese will be pleased with Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee’s braces, it was Amad Diallo’s relentless pressing and creativity that led to the three points.

Unfairly overlooked by former boss Erik ten Hag, the 22-year-old has come into his own since the Dutchman’s departure and now has two goals and four assists since.

And while Amorim’s trust in the Ivorian and his new position have helped, the ex-Sporting Lisbon boss was quick to praise former interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy for kickstarting the change in Amad’s gameplay.

    RvN credited by Amorim

The Dutchman not only steadied the ship after a turbulent start under the former Ajax coach, he also helped numerous players regain their form.

He wanted to stay and work with the Portuguese tactician but the new coach wanted to work with his own staff and thus, a difficult exit had to occur.

It was only a four-game unbeaten run but it saw the former United striker earn plenty of interest from clubs all across Europe, from the Championship to Bundesliga 2 before being named as the new Leicester City boss.

And Van Nistelrooy was surprised with the offers he got, something he never got on the back of a successful campaign at PSV Eindhoven, where he won the cup and the charity shield.

“What happened after the games and the amount of interest, the options that all of a sudden was there for me and the options that came along, I was a little bit astonished,” he was quoted as saying.

“It was four games and I managed a full season at PSV, was able to win the cup and the charity shield, I have been in coaching, in the (under-)19s and the national team (with the Netherlands) and it never got this reaction from the football world.

“It provoked these reactions and I was only happy with that. And to get in conversations with different parties and be able to make a decision which felt really good for me and I am happy to be here.

    So many offers

“It was a good period, short and intense, but I was happy to help get the club back, steady the ship I called it, for the four games. Now they are on a run of good results on top of those four games, so that is great to see.

“I really enjoyed it, being responsible, creating a connection with the team, with the supporters and turning the momentum for the club for a little bit.”

Van Nistelrooy will have a very difficult job on his hands with the Foxes just a point above the drop zone after 13 games with a difficult game coming up against West Ham on Tuesday.

But he certainly has the skillset to guide Leicester to safety this season with their board feeling the players will take to him just as United stars did.

Van Nistelrooy will have the chance to send a message to INEOS and Amorim should he do well at the King Power Stadium. He already has his eyes on a triple raid on his former club to start things off as manager.

Alan Shearer purrs over “absolutely fantastic” United star who was “a constant threat” vs. Everton

      alan-shearer-purrs-over-“absolutely-fantastic”-united-star-who-was-“a-constant-threat”-vs.-everton

Legendary Premier League striker Alan Shearer has hailed Amad Diallo after his superb display during Sunday’s 4-0 win over Everton.

United clinched all three points courtesy of braces from Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee.

While he didn’t get on the score sheet, Amad was equally impactful, registering two second-half assists for both goalscorers.

Against the Toffees, no United player completed more take-ons (four), put in more tackles (four) or created more chances (three) than Amad.

After the final whistle, head coach Ruben Amorim praised Amad and his impact on the team. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that a new contract for the Ivorian is currently one of Amorim’s top priorities.

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Shearer also waxed lyrical about Amad and his contributions to the victory over Sean Dyche’s men.

Shearer said, “Amad Diallo was absolutely outstanding on the right-hand side.”

“He was fantastic, player of the match, a constant threat. His work-rate, his attitude, his understanding of what his manager wants from him in that position is brilliant.”

“Everton got in so many good positions in the first 20 minutes but their final ball wasn’t there. Then once United got the first one Everton sort of caved in.”

“It was a good performance in the end from Manchester United. Other than the first 20 minutes they were very good.”

Shearer also had something to say about Rashford – a player he has strongly criticised in the past.

“What we’ve seen from him over the last few weeks, we’ve got to see that most weeks now. He got that goal against Ipswich and was good today. He needs to do it on a regular basis.”

Up next for United is a Wednesday clash against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in North London.

“They’re a long way off”: United legend offers brutal assessment of Amorim’s start to life at Old Trafford

        “they’re-a-long-way-off”:-united-legend-offers-brutal-assessment-of-amorim’s-start-to-life-at-old-trafford

Manchester United notched back-to-back wins under Ruben Amorim as they thrashed Everton 4-0 in their Premier League game at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Portuguese will be delighted with both his forwards, Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee who grabbed a brace apiece and the Red Devils have now scored eight times in their last three games under the new head coach.

Sunday’s win meant the Old Trafford side have climbed up to ninth spot, only four points off the top-four, and have finally made it into the top-half of the league table.

With their forward line finally clicking into gear and with the team displaying intensity as demanded by Amorim, United seem to be building a head of steam ahead of Wednesday’s game against Arsenal.

        United not getting carried away

But as the head coach said at the end of Sunday’s game, there was a lot of scope for improvement and the focus is always on the next game instead of getting carried away.

It did not look like a foregone conclusion in the first half, especially before the first goal, when the visitors wrestled back control but the home side ran away with it in the second half.

“On Thursday, we [won] 3-2, but I think we deserved more. Today was a 4-0 [win], but I think Everton deserved more. So let’s focus on the performance, congratulations to the lads, let’s rest, recover and think about Arsenal.”

Former United legend Gary Neville felt the former Sporting Lisbon boss will be pleased with his unbeaten start to life at the club but will also be aware of the reality that the team is still a long way off where they need to be.

“Obviously it was a good win. Coming back in midweek and winning, Ruben Amorim will be happy,” said the former United right-back on his Sky Sports podcast.

“They’re a long way off, no doubt about that, but they’ve gone up into the top half of the table. They’re only four or five points off the top four, which is mad really.

United still far off from where they should be

“But I don’t think they’re quite at that level yet to give anybody confidence that they can get there. The teams that are above them, particularly in the top six are well ahead of them in terms of performance levels.

“But he’ll be happy at the end of his first week of matches.”

The game against the Gunners will be Amorim’s first big test and will show exactly where the team stands in comparison to the early pace-setters.

It will be far from easy with both Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo suspended for the encounter while club captain Bruno Fernandes is an injury doubt after he was spotted icing his ankle after being subbed off on Sunday.

Euro giants to lodge big-money January bid for key United star, club “could be tempted to sell” – report

          euro-giants-to-lodge-big-money-january-bid-for-key-united-star,-club-“could-be-tempted-to-sell”-–-report

Manchester United could reportedly be convinced to sanction the sale of Diogo Dalot, with Real Madrid prepared to submit an offer for him as early as the January transfer window.

Earlier today, a shock report from Spain claimed that Madrid are showing significant transfer interest in Dalot.

Madrid are in need of right-back reinforcements after Dani Carvajal suffered a serious injury a few weeks ago. Carlo Ancelotti has tried different players in that role but nothing has so far proven to be a sustainable solution.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who is set to become a free agent in the summer, has been widely mentioned as Los Blancos’ top target.

However, with Liverpool flying high at the top of both the Premier League and Champions League standings under Arne Slot, there remains a strong chance the Merseyside outfit could convince the England international to extend his stay at Anfield.

It was claimed that Madrid have lined up Dalot as an alternative in case they fail in their efforts to secure Alexander-Arnolds services. The report added that United value Dalot at around £41million.

Pete Hall of i news has given an update on the situation, confirming that Madrid are indeed admirers of Dalot and are even plotting to make a £50m offer for him in January.

“i understands the Spanish giants will test whether new United manager Ruben Amorim really believes the 25-year-old Dalot fits into his new system with a £50m offer in January.”

“United sources insist Dalot is an important part of Amorim’s squad, while the player himself is not understood to be seeking a move away from Old Trafford.”

“However, Madrid are willing to make a move for Dalot now, rather than wait for Alexander-Arnold to leave Liverpool when his contract expires next summer. There is some urgency as their first choice full-back, Dani Carvajal, is out with a serious knee injury.”

Hall explains that Madrid are not the only club keeping tabs on Dalot. There are other unnamed parties that would also love to add him to their ranks.

It’s understood that United “could be tempted to sell” the Portugal international, with proceeds from his exit being used towards getting deals for the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Geovany Quenda over the line.

i news add that Ruben Amorim and Dalot have already “formed a good relationship.”

Dalot has played 178 games for United and scooped up the club’s Players’ Player of the Year award last term.

He has four years remaining on his Old Trafford contract after putting pen to paper on a new deal in May 2023.

Fringe United star to be given “increased amount of game time” in next two games vs. Arsenal and Forest – report

Manchester United midfielder is reportedly set to be afforded more minutes by Ruben Amorim during the busy winter period.

Mount’s time at United since his big-money move from Chelsea in 2023 has been interrupted by injuries, which have kept him from nailing down a consistent run of performances and results.

This term, the England international has managed just seven appearances across the Premier League and the Europa League.

The United n.o 7 was on the pitch for just 10 minutes during Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Everton.

New head coach Ruben Amorim has spoken glowingly of Mount, recently describing him as a “proper footballer.”

Now, GIVEMESPORT relay, “Manchester United star Mason Mount is poised to have the opportunity to make himself one of the first names on the team sheet under head coach Ruben Amorim as he is on course to be handed more extensive game time during a busy festive period at Old Trafford.”

“Mount will have the chance to work his way into Amorim’s preferred starting line-up at Manchester United, according to GMS sources, as he is in line to secure an increased amount of game time in their next two Premier League fixtures against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.”

“GMS sources have been informed that Mount is on course to have the opportunity to ignite his Manchester United career as he will be able to take advantage of the congested fixture schedule in the build-up to 2025 and make his case to become a key figure under the new regime.”

It’s understood that Amorim is eager to have identified his preferred starting XI by the close of the year and Mount has the chance to provide he is capable of “being at the forefront of the long-term plans.”

Depending on Mount’s form and fitness, United will alter their January transfer plans.

If the 25-year-old delivers strong performances in the coming weeks, it could ease the club’s urgency to sign attacking midfielders.

United’s Wednesday clash against Arsenal kicks off at 20:15 BST.

United “make initial concrete talks” over blockbuster move for Europe’s most in-demand player – report

              united-“make-initial-concrete-talks”-over-blockbuster-move-for-europe’s-most-in-demand-player-–-report

Manchester United have reportedly established contact to explore the possibility of sealing a summer deal for Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres is currently one of the most in-demand players on the continent, following his heroics in front of goal over the last two seasons.

He bagged 43 times in 50 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign at Estádio José Alvalade, to help Sporting win a 20th Portuguese top-flight title under Ruben Amorim. Gyokeres won six Player of the Month awards and the Primeira Liga Player of the Year prize as a result of his exploits.

This term, he has picked up where he left off. At the moment, the Sweden international has notched 24 goals and four assists in 21 matches.

This has seen Gyokeres linked to several top clubs in Europe including Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain.

He has also been strongly mentioned to be on United’s radar, largely thanks to Amorim’s recent appointment as club boss.

It’s believed that the 26-year-old will be allowed to leave Sporting for a fee significantly lower than his £80m release clause.

As the race to secure his service heats up, Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg reveals that United have fielded enquiries over his transfer situation.

According to Plettenberg [via X], “Manchester United have now made initial concrete talks regarding Viktor Gyökeres and a potential move in the summer.”

“The Red Devils are now fully involved.”

“However, this will require sales first!”

“Manchester City have also intensified their efforts in recent days. Hugo Viana is currently pushing hard in the pursuit of Gyökeres.”

United legend on verge of being sacked amidst his club’s nightmare run of results – report

                united-legend-on-verge-of-being-sacked-amidst-his-club’s-nightmare-run-of-results-–-report

Manchester United legend and Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney is reportedly facing a fight to keep his job as his side’s struggles on the pitch persist.

Rooney has only been in the job for seven months but is already on the brink of being sacked, with Plymouth down near the wrong end of the Championship table.

Plymouth are just one spot and two points above the relegation zone following two heavy defeats, in which they’ve conceded 10 goals.

The Pilgrims were thoroughly beaten 6-1 by Norwich on Tuesday before suffering another 4-1 devastating loss at the hands of Bristol City on Saturday.

According to The Telegraph, Plymouth’s woeful form has left Rooney in a very precarious position.

“Wayne Rooney is fighting for his future as Plymouth Argyle manager after a nightmare run of results and is now facing two potentially pivotal home matches against Oxford and Swansea.”

Rooney recently admitted that the last week has been the toughest yet of his managerial career.

United’s record goalscorer said [via BBC], “I’ve been criticised since I was a 16-year-old boy, my whole career. What you always want is weapons to fight back with – at the minute we’ve got none.”

“So we have to take it on the chin and hope that we get through this, because the last two games arguably have been the toughest and hardest week of my managerial career.”

“So I need to find a way to get through it, but also get that message through to the players to make sure I lift them.”

He added, “I know the support the fans have given us, and they’ve come here in numbers and it was the same on Tuesday night. It was very difficult walking over and not feel embarrassed to show our appreciation to the fans.”

Meanwhile, United are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to London to face Arsenal.

Man Utd summer signing in contention for debut v Arsenal, Ruben Amorim confirms

                  man-utd-summer-signing-in-contention-for-debut-v-arsenal,-ruben-amorim-confirms

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim says summer signing Leny Yoro “could be in the squad” to face Arsenal in the Premier League on Wednesday.

Yoro is yet to make his competitive debut for Man Utd after injuring his metatarsal against Arsenal in a pre-season friendly.

He could make his Red Devils nod against the same opponent on Wednesday evening.

Indeed, Amorim confirmed Yoro “could be in the squad”. He also said the fitness of other players will be assessed in training on Tuesday.

“He (Yoro) is a special talent,” Amorim told reports on Monday. “We have to be careful in the first moments.

“We have not had a lot of training together, he has been training in a small group.

“He is really fast, a modern defender, which is really good when you want to press high. He can manage one one-on-one with strikers and he is good with the ball so I am really excited to see him play.”

One defender who has played consistently since joining Man Utd in the summer is Noussair Mazraoui.

Mazraoui joined the club alongside Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and has been very impressive in his early months at Old Trafford.

“In games, he is a top player,” Amorim said of the Moroccan. “He understands games, knows how to attack, is very technical, very good defensively [and] in one on ones.

“He is a modern player – he is the future of our team. You need more players like him who can control the the play, are comfortable with the ball and understand the game.”

Amorim also confirmed that captain Bruno Fernandes will feature despite having ice on his ankle after being substituted in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Everton.

Facing the Gunners will be his “biggest” test since replacing Erik ten Hag as head coach, Amorim says.

“It is important to be brave (against big teams),” he said. “Not in pressing all the time high, we have to understand the game and moments of the game.

“We need to have the ball – we also want to dominate some moments of the game because in these matches it is hard to control all of the game. We have to be brave and to play the game.”

Finally, Amorim says he feels “a bit embarrassed” to hear chants about him from the crowd, “because I am the coach. They have to chant for players and the club”.

“Not a good thing for me,” he added. “I appreciate the connection with supporters but I want them to support the players because they are on the pitch.

“But I am honoured, I feel the connection with supporters but we need results to maintain that.”

Hamann slams Man Utd ‘leadership’ over Amorim arrival amid ‘doubts over every player’ but two

                    hamann-slams-man-utd-‘leadership’-over-amorim-arrival-amid-‘doubts-over-every-player’-but-two

Didi Hamann has hit out at Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the other Manchester United chiefs, claiming “strong leadership is clearly lacking upstairs” after how they came to appoint Ruben Amorim.

Amorim won his first Premier League game as United boss on Sunday as Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee scored two goals each in a 4-0 victory to significantly improve the mood at Old Trafford.

It was at all an all-time low at the start of the season after Erik ten Hag kept his job after their worst-ever campaign but was soon replaced by Amorim, via interim boss Ruud Van Nistelrooy, with that pair restoring some pride at United, who are now remarkably above both Aston Villa and Newcastle in the table.

Hamann is baffled by the decision from the club hierarchy not to make the call to sack Ten Hag in the summer and also claims there are only two Red Devils players – Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo – over whom there are no doubts.

“I think that’s the thing with United, if you look at their team now, you wouldn’t really know where to start,” Hamann told Genting Casino.

“Obviously, you’ve got Garnacho and Mainoo, two very young and exciting players, but then there are doubts about every other single player. There are doubts about every part of their team, whether it’s the goalkeeper, the defence, midfield or attack.

“Hojlund needs to come into his own a little bit more. He’s still very young. You probably have to give him time. Then again at United, he won’t get much time.

“The other thing is, if they wanted Amorim, and obviously we go back to the FA Cup final, if Ten Hag hadn’t won it, maybe they would have decided to bring him in then. United have decided to bring him in now in November, but I’m sure they would have got him in the summer if they really wanted him.

“It would have been much easier for United to do that, and it would have been cheaper, but they decided to stick with Erik Ten Hag and that is a decision that raises serious questions about the judgement of the United leadership team.

“There have been a few decisions made at Manchester United that I didn’t really understand. Hopefully with Amorim, because they need a strong manager, they need a strong leader, because the way they handled the summer and Ten Hag’s future, that strong leadership is clearly lacking upstairs.

“There’s different people talking and some not talking enough. I think the fans would have been begging Fergie to come out and say something, but he’s keeping out of it, which is obviously his right.

“They’ve got a manager who offers a bit of optimism and gives the club something to look forward to for the first time in a long time. It would be good for the Premier League to have a strong Manchester United.”

Hamann believes in Mainoo Manchester United have a player who can go right to the very top of the game.

He added: “I think Kobbie Mainoo is a very interesting player. The way he played for England in the summer, for a young boy to come in, that was impressive.  Last season he scored some important goals. I think Mainoo is a fantastic talent.

“There are some fantastic central midfield players, but Mainoo is probably the one I’d be most interested in watching where he goes over the next couple of years. I think Mainoo can defend and attack, which is a good thing.

“When you play in central midfield with two players, I think it’s very important that you haven’t got similar players. You need players with different qualities that complement each other.

“I think Mainoo has discipline and if he wants to do it, he could be one of the best holding players. Then again, he gets his shot off. He’s got a trick as well. He can score goals.

“If you play him next to a Declan Rice, as he does sometimes for England, I think he can play higher. If his future is as a number 8, then I think he will need to get six, seven, or eight goals from open play in a season.

“I think he’s capable of doing that if he puts his mind to it. I think he has the potential to become one of the best midfielders in England.”

“He always gives you an option”: Zirkzee hails lethal partnership with special United teammate that “just comes natural”

Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee has hailed his partnership with Amad Diallo, explaining that their link-up on the pitch just comes naturally.

The two stars were on fire as United cruised to a 4-0 victory over Everton on Sunday. Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford grabbed two goals apiece to secure what was Ruben Amorim’s first Premier League victory.

Two of Zirkzee’s goals were created by Amad, who was spectacular against the Toffees. For Zirkzee’s first, Amad won the ball before handing it over to Bruno Fernandes, who easily found an incoming Zirkzee. The Netherlands international produced a superb finish to beat Jordan Pickford.

In almost a similar manner, Amad pinched the ball off an Everton defender once again and squared it to Zirkzee who proceeded to plant it into the back of the net.

Before his brilliant brace on Sunday, Zirkzee last scored for United on his debut against Fulham on August 16.

He spoke to reporters [via Manchester Evening News] and praised his teammates for always encouraging him even as he underwent an 18-game goal drought.

Zirkzee also opened up on his partnership with Amad.

“Obviously, the longer it takes before you get back on the scoresheet the more frustrating it gets. But I have some great teammates who always keep my head up as well when I’m not keeping it up. They helped me a lot during that time as well. Today they were happy for me as well.”

When asked of Ruben Amorim requested him to play a different tole to Erik ten Hag, Zirkzee responded, “Er… Yeah, maybe. I dunno… Yeah, that’s a good question.”

“I felt comfortable today in the role I was in. Of course, the goal helps as well for a striker, so that also helps. But yeah, we all came out with the confidence that we were gonna win this game.”

“There are some slight differences, yeah. I go out there and try and do what he asks me and expects.”

On Amad, Zirkzee said, “Just natural, I think, but same with all the other guys. It takes some time to have connections in a team when you’re new. With Amad, it’s very easy to play but same with all the other players in the team.”

“I wish I could explain to you. It’s easy. He always gives you an option. Just comes natural. I wish I could explain!”

United return to action on Wednesday when they take on Arsenal in North London.
