Liverpool ‘offer’ £33m for long-term Man Utd target in January transfer ‘bargain’

    liverpool-‘offer’-33m-for-long-term-man-utd-target-in-january-transfer-‘bargain’

Liverpool are hoping to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong in 2025 with the La Liga giants open to selling, according to reports.

The Netherlands international has been heavily linked with a move to the Reds’ arch-rivals Man Utd over the last couple of years with their old manager Erik ten Hag a big fan of his compatriot.

A recent report claimed that new boss Ruben Amorim vetoed the club’s plan to press ahead with interest in De Jong as he looks for ‘a different type of player for the midfield’.

De Jong has suffered with injury during his time at Barcelona but an earlier report has claimed Liverpool see him as an ‘ideal replacement’ for Ryan Gravenberch, who is being eyed by Real Madrid.

After 224 appearances for Barcelona, it could now be time for De Jong to leave the Catalan giants with reports in Spain claiming that the La Liga side ‘need to get rid’ of the midfielder in 2025.

Otherwise Barcelona face ‘an incredible risk of seeing him pack his bags the following year’ which would mean De Jong leaving on a free transfer and not ‘leaving a single euro in the coffers’ at the Camp Nou.

That is a scenario that Barcelona president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco ‘want to avoid at all costs’ after spending around €85m on signing him from Ajax almost six years ago.

De Jong is the ‘highest paid player in the dressing room, along with Robert Lewandowski’ and they ‘have long since decided to try to sell’ the 27-year-old.

Liverpool ‘want to sign’ the Netherlands international and have made an ‘offer’ of €40m (£33m) with Liverpool ‘looking to take advantage of their current situation to secure his services for a ridiculous amount’.

Arne Slot, who has made an incredible start to life as new Liverpool boss, ‘has advised the board to try to sign’ De Jong as the Reds look to grab a ‘bargain’ ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool are ‘not willing to do anything crazy’ with their offer ‘a low-cost proposal of 30 million fixed and 10 million in variables, which they hope will convince Laporta and Deco to let Frenkie go.’

The Reds are currently seven points ahead of Chelsea and Arsenal in the Premier League table and lead defending champions Manchester City by nine points.

And former Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant reckons Slot’s side are benefitting from being less dependant on one player like Man City with Rodri.

Pennant told Mega Dice: “Liverpool aren’t as dependant on one player as Manchester City are with Rodri. I don’t think if Liverpool were to lose Ryan Gravenberch to injury at any point that it would be too costly to their season.

“We saw it against Newcastle, Dominic Szoboszlai and Alexis MacAllister filled in for him when he was taken off and can perform well in that position and do a job, and there was a little burst of energy in the middle of the park.

“If they did lose him to injury it would hurt, of course, because what he’s been doing this season has been fantastic and he does help Liverpool get out of trouble. Liverpool are proven without him, though, so it certainly wouldn’t be as detrimental as we’ve seen the loss of Rodri has been to City.”

Merson makes Man Utd vs Forest prediction after Amorim ‘outwitted’ Arsenal boss Arteta

      merson-makes-man-utd-vs-forest-prediction-after-amorim-‘outwitted’-arsenal-boss-arteta

Paul Merson is expecting Man Utd to drop points at home to Nottingham Forest after watching them lose to Arsenal in midweek.

Goals from Arsenal defenders Jurrien Timber and William Saliba saw the Red Devils lose for the first time under new boss Ruben Amorim, while the Gunners maintained their recent good form to close the gap on leaders Liverpool to seven points.

Man Utd dropped back into the bottom half following the defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday and fell further down the table to 13th on Thursday as Bournemouth and Fulham both won to move above Amorim’s side.

The Red Devils were struggling for Premier League goals before Amorim arrived as the new head coach but a 4-0 win at Everton, which saw both Marcus Rashford and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee score a brace, gave Man Utd fans hope that they had turned a corner.

Man Utd weren’t able to hit the back of the net against Arsenal but Merson reckons they will score a couple of goals in a draw against Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Merson told Sportskeeda: “This is a difficult game for Manchester United. If Nottingham Forest can play like they did against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season, it will be a problem for the hosts at Old Trafford. Manchester United were disappointing against Arsenal. They looked comfortable in the first half, but it felt like they were only playing for a draw.

“Manchester United kept things safe and tried to unleash the big guns in Marcus Rashford and Joshua Zirkzee in the second half. But by the time they came on, the game was done. I thought it was a very negative approach from Ruben Amorim. Manchester United fans need to patient. It will take time for them to get the results they desire but Amorim will eventually get it right because he is a good manager.

“I actually thought Amorim outwitted Mikel Arteta in that first half. Manchester United were so comfortable and Arsenal did not look like scoring apart from that missed header by Thomas Partey. But this is the Premier League, not the Portuguese league and that’s just not good enough if you’re Manchester United.

“Forest may have lost to Manchester City the other day, but I think they will cause problems at Old Trafford. They are good down the wings and this could hurt Manchester United. I’m going for a draw here. Prediction: Manchester United 2-2 Nottingham Forest.”

“We are positive”: Sporting director’s update set to crush Amorim’s hopes of landing superstar

        “we-are-positive”:-sporting-director’s-update-set-to-crush-amorim’s-hopes-of-landing-superstar

Ruben Amorim is quickly getting to know his Manchester United squad with the Portuguese trying to find the right formula to take the club back to the top.

United’s disappointing displays in recent years have been largely down to poor recruitment under the Glazers with the America family wasting the club’s money on woeful transfers over the last decade.

Amorim has been tasked with getting the best out of the current crop but will surely be dipping into the market to fix positions he feels are most in need of reinforcements.

One area in dire need of help is left wingback with the position an important part of Amorim’s 3-4-3 system.

Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies appeared to be high on the list of targets with the Canadian’s qualities tailor-made for the position.

However, after seemingly being ready to leave the Bundesliga, the 24-year-old now looks to be close to agreeing a new deal with the German giants.

Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg confirms that Bayern Sporting Director, Christoph Freund, is hoping to persuade Davies to stay at the Allianz Arena and is becoming increasingly confident about doing so.

⤵️⚠️ Sporting Director Christoph Freund confirms the possible turnaround. Asked today about a possible contract extension for Alphonso #Davies, he said:

        „In principle, we are positive.”@SkySportDE 🇨🇦 https://t.co/WtmdpsqbWw

        — Florian Plettenberg (@Plettigoal) December 6, 2024

“In principle, we are positive,” said Freund when asked on whether Davies will be extending his contract.

This comes after the news that Bayern had made “significant progress” regarding an extension with the player whose current deal expires in 2025.

Should a deal be agreed, it will come as a blow to Amorim with Davies seen as somewhat of a coup given his age and status in the game.

Luke Shaw’s continuous absence through injury means he is unlikely to be the long-term answer while Tyrell Malacia is just working his way back from long-term injury with an exit potentially on the cards.

Davies would have been the perfect option on the left side of Amorim’s starting XI but it now looks as though he will have to shop elsewhere when the time comes.

It remains unlikely United will do much, if any, business in January, rather choosing to focus on the summer window, giving Amorim time to assess his squad.

United scouting €70m superstar ahead of summer move, Arsenal, PSG also in the fray – report

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Galatasaray star Victor Osimhen, as per reports.

Goalscoring has been a major issue for United this season, with both strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee failing to impress in the final third on a consistent basis.

The Red Devils appeared toothless against Arsenal at the Emirates, leading to Ruben Amorim tasting his first defeat as United head coach. Mikel Arteta’s forwards weren’t very dangerous either, and the hosts had to rely on two goals from corner routines to steal all three points.

Now it is being reported that both United and Arsenal have intensified their interest in Osimhen. Paris Saint-Germain are also interested.

According to Sabah (via Sport Witness), the Premier League duo are sending senior scouts to monitor the Galatasaray striker ahead of a possible €70m move.

The Nigerian forward moved to the Istanbul-based outfit on loan from Napoli in the summer.

He has enjoyed a tremendous start in Turkey, having scored nine goals and registered five assists in 12 appearances across all competitions.

It is understood that “it is almost certain” the 25-year-old, who led Napoli to a historic Serie A title in 2023, will receive offers from England at some point. Apart from United and Arsenal, Chelsea also continue to follow their long-term target.

Osimhen’s loan deal includes a mid-season break clause, but he is keen on finishing the season with Galatasaray before exploring other options.

The elite number nine was frozen out of the squad by Napoli and was eventually replaced by ex-United star Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

As such, it is unlikely he will return to Naples. Still, it is not going to be easy for his suitors to secure his services on a permanent basis.

Osimhen reportedly has a €75m release clause in his contract and Napoli are expected to ask for a significant fee before sanctioning his permanent exit. Regardless, Arsenal and United are keen on the player.

Man Utd: Ten Hag favourite reveals two key mistakes that cost Dutchman his job at Old Trafford

            man-utd:-ten-hag-favourite-reveals-two-key-mistakes-that-cost-dutchman-his-job-at-old-trafford

Former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel has revealed the two key reasons that Erik ten Hag lost his job at Man Utd earlier this season.

Ten Hag had a positive first season in charge of the Red Devils with the former Ajax boss leading them to an FA Cup final, League Cup glory and a top-four finish in the Premier League.

However, he could only lead Man Utd to an eight-placed finish in the Premier League last term and, despite winning the FA Cup final, his job came under severe pressure over the summer.

INEOS and the Man Utd hierarchy spoke to a number of potential candidates to take over from him but ultimately decided to stick with the Dutchman heading into the new season.

The Red Devils won just three of their opening nine matches this term under Ten Hag and INEOS made the decision to sack Ten Hag at the end of October.

Man Utd hired Ruben Amorim to succeed Ten Hag as manager and Babel – who played under his compatriot at Ajax – reckons the Dutchman was let down in the transfer market.

Babel told Instant Casino: “I experienced Ten Hag at Ajax, and he was very clear on his vision and on how he wanted to play.

“Over the years I’ve seen managers succeed and managers fail and that’s not because they are bad managers all of a sudden.

“You have the arguments as to why it didn’t work out for him at United. Did he spend money?  Yes, he did, but I also think that he missed out on some of the players that he really, really wanted while he was at Manchester United.

“There were occasions where he couldn’t get his top targets and he had to divert to plan B, plan C. Maybe the players he was presented with couldn’t execute the type of football he wanted to play.”

Babel added: “I do know that he is a great coach, he has a great vision, he has a great eye for football but, again, the Premier League is a different ball game to the Dutch way of playing.

“It is not always suitable in the Premier League to play with those principles. In the Premier League, you need to be able to adapt. You need to have a plan B for strategy. I’m not sure if he had that.

“I think he was too wedded to his plan and tried to make it work even when it was turning against him.

“That’s what I believe happened. It’s sad of course to see a fellow Dutchman go down like that, but I’m sure he will bounce back.”

Babel believes his former boss will be back in management soon after his disappointment at Man Utd, he continued: “He seems like a type who wants to bounce back. Whether he gets that chance, I don’t know. But he definitely wants to prove himself.”

“It will not be a surprise”: Championship outfit plotting sensational January swoop for wantaway Ten Hag recruit – report

              “it-will-not-be-a-surprise”:-championship-outfit-plotting-sensational-january-swoop-for-wantaway-ten-hag-recruit-–-report

Despite a mixed campaign so far for Manchester United, Andre Onana is one player who has stood out with his superb reflexes saving the club’s blushes on more than one occasion.

Ruben Amorim has started the Cameroonian in all games since his arrival, with backup keeper Altay Bayindir not getting a look-in, not even in the Europa League game against Bodo/Glimt.

As relayed by The Peoples Person, the Turkiye international is not too happy with the lack of minutes at Old Trafford and is looking to leave, either in January or by next summer.

Since he was signed from Fenerbahce, the 26-year-old has made only three appearances with two of them coming this term. He is yet to play a single minutes in the Premier League.

              Altay set to leave

The Turkish star has impressed coaches in training but Onana has proved to be too good to usurp and an exit seems likely, with the Red Devils forced to look for alternatives.

There is interest from Turkish clubs and Celtic while Fotospor have claimed Championship outfit Hull City have now emerged as surprise suitors.

The Tigers are in danger of relegation and are in desperate need of quality in goal and chairman Acun Ilıcalı, who is also Fenerbahçe’s vice president, wants to sign his former player.

Owing to the Fener connection, a move is considered plausible once the January window opens with Ilıcalı considered to be quite persuasive.

“Things are not going well at Hull City. The team owned by Acun Ilıcalı, who is also Fenerbahçe’s vice president, is playing to avoid relegation in the Championship. There is a big problem in goal.

“Some transfer rumours have started to come to the fore for Hull City. One of these was that the Championship team wanted to sign Altay Bayındır, who could not find what he was looking for in Manchester United.

              Hull City interested

“It will not be a surprise for Fenerbahçe’s former captain Altay and Fenerbahçe’s current vice president Acun Ilıcalı to meet in Hull City.”

With Bayindir desperate for more minutes, a drop down to the Championship would not be the worst move but it remains to be seen whether it is a permanent exit or a loan departure.

He is currently valued at €10 million as per Transfermarkt with the Red Devils acquiring his signature for €5 million. Surely, INEOS will like to earn a small profit from the goalie’s sale.

But whether the new co-owners can recruit a replacement in January remains to be seen and that will decide whether Bayindir leaves now or at the end of the season.

Man Utd: Amorim demands ‘key’ target is met despite one ‘problem’; confirms ‘return’ of two stars

                man-utd:-amorim-demands-‘key’-target-is-met-despite-one-‘problem’;-confirms-‘return’-of-two-stars

New Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed one “key” target he’s set his players ahead of Saturday’s match against Nottingham Forest.

The 39-year-old head coach has his fourth game in charge of Man Utd this weekend as his side host Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

Amorim has had a mixed start at Man Utd. His team earned four points from games against Ipswich Town and Everton before they were deservedly beaten 2-0 by Arsenal on Wednesday night.

Following this result, the Red Devils are 13th in the Premier League and seven points adrift of the Champions League places.

There were positives for Amorim to take from the defeat to Arsenal and United’s new head coach has provided an insight on the “phases” that they must “follow” in the coming weeks. He’s admitted that the first step is the “easiest”.

“That is a key point for us,” Amorim said when asked about the improvements his side has made out of possession.

“We also have to understand our supporters; in just two weeks and four matches, they just want to see effort. Then they want to see us win games. After a while with effort and winning games, they will want to see a dominant team.

“These are the phases that we have to follow. This one is the easy one, effort. Full sprint back, full sprint forward. Our focus is a lot on that.”

Amorim has also indicated that he’s “getting close” to knowing his best starting XI despite having one “problem” to overcome.

“You have an idea, but we have the problem of players returning without training, then we need to manage the load,” Amorim added.

“You have to understand what kind of players you have. For example Bruno Fernandes, he was a little bit tired in the end against Arsenal but you know that he is going to recover very well.

“If you think about Manuel Ugarte, I’ve known him for so long and I know he needs a little bit more time.

“We are in that process of knowing the players and we are managing that. We are getting closer to an idea, yes.”

On United’s team news, he continued: “Jonny [Evans] is still not training. Victor [Lindelof] has returned to training but is not available for tomorrow. Maybe in the next game he will be available.”

“Licha [Lisandro Martinez] and Kobbie have returned so we are prepared for the game.”

Key information confirmed for United’s mouth-watering FA Cup third round tie with Arsenal

                  key-information-confirmed-for-united’s-mouth-watering-fa-cup-third-round-tie-with-arsenal

Manchester United were handed a huge draw in the third round of the FA Cup as Ruben Amorim’s side set about defending their crown.

Amorim’s side will travel to North London to face Mikael Arteta’s Arsenal in what is undoubtedly the standout tie in the draw.

As reported by The Mirror, the date of the fixture has now been confirmed with respective television outlets deciding on their picks for live showings.

It’s been announced United will play the Gunners on Sunday January 12, with kick-off at 3pm. The match will be shown live on BBC One.

United will be out for revenge as they return to the scene of the crime of Amorim’s first defeat as head coach of the Old Trafford club.

Arsenal handed Amorim’s men a 2-0 reverse this week with United unable to cope with the set piece power of their hosts despite defending manfully in open play.

United will be desperate to start their defence of the famous of trophy by not just securing passage to round four but knocking out a key rival for the competition in the process.

However, Arsenal are likely to start the game as favourites given their progress under Arteta in recent years.

The fixture continues a huge start to the calendar year for Amorim, who takes his side to Anfield the weekend prior to the cup clash.

United’s incredible success in the competition last season was unquestionably the highlight of Erik ten Hag’s reign at the club.

Liverpool were dispatched in dramatic fashion in the quarter-finals before United survived the biggest of scares against Championship side Coventry City in the semi’s to set up a mammoth Manchester Derby in the final.

Against the odds, United pulled out their performance of the season to defeat City and secure their 13th FA Cup trophy thanks to goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo at Wembley.

In fact, it’s only Arsenal who boast more wins in the competition than United with an impressive 14 to their name.

The mouth-watering tie will certainly set the tone for another strong run in the cup for either team and should United get past the Londoners it will be a notable feather in the cap for Amorim as he continues to bed in, in Manchester.

Amorim is massive fan of United star who didn’t play a single minute under Ten Hag – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim appears to be a huge admirer of Leny Yoro.

Yoro made his senior debut at just 16 years old and by 17 he had cemented himself as one of the best central defenders in Ligue 1. His throwback style of defending, physicality, and astute reading of the game drew comparisons to Virgil van Dijk.

Not many expected United, who had no Champions League football to offer, to beat Europe’s biggest clubs, including Real Madrid, to the signing of the generational French talent.

However, Ineos underlined their ambitious plans for United by swiftly agreeing a fee of €62 million, plus a potential €8m in add-ons with Lille.

Accordingly, Yoro arrived amid much fanfare and showed a glimpse of his potential in pre-season. However, he suffered a foot injury against Arsenal during the pre-season tour and was sidelined for a lengthy period.

The 19-year-old didn’t play a single minute of competitive football under Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag’s successor, Amorim handed the youngster his United debut against the same opposition during mid-week.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 to Arsenal, but Yoro’s encouraging cameo in the second half in north London highlighted why he was being chased by top sides during the summer. His new boss is also believed to be a huge fan of his skill sets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Yoro “will be crucial part of Rúben Amorim’s project.”

The Italian journalist further added that “even during talks before joining United” the former Sporting CP manager and his coaching staff mentioned the centre-back, labelling his signing as “smart”. The ex-Lille star is considered the “ideal player to sign” by everyone at the club.

                    — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 5, 2024

Despite the hype, Amorim is understood to be keen on carefully managing his gametime to avoid any injury in the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see how the United gaffer would use him during busy December schedule.

The Portuguese tactician’s 3-4-3 formation could get the best out of Yoro, who has mobility and positional awareness to defend wide areas as the right-sided defender in the back three.

Further, he is also composed in possession — a key ability for Amorim, as he likes to use his defenders to progress the play from deep.

Man Utd: ‘£45m offer’ tipped to force INEOS transfer U-turn as Ruben Amorim ‘makes position clear’

According to reports, Real Madrid expects Manchester United to perform a U-turn and sell Portugal international Diogo Dalot on one condition.

The versatile defender has been one of United‘s most consistent performers in recent years and his form earned him a new long-term contract last year. His deal runs until 2028 and it also includes an option for a further year.

Dalot has played the full 90 minutes in all three of Ruben Amorim’s games in charge and he’s also been used on either flank as a wing-back.

This suggests the 25-year-old is a big part of Amorim’s plans, but he is attracting interest from elsewhere.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are in the market for a right-back as they need a long-term replacement for Spain international Dani Carvajal, who is out for the rest of this season after suffering a serious knee injury.

Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Porro have been mooted as potential targets, but Dalot is another option.

Earlier this week, a report claimed Man Utd would be ‘tempted’ to cash in on Dalot as this sale would fund moves for two players in January.

A report from GiveMeSport claims Real Madrid ‘want to sign Dalot’ and Amorim has ‘made his position clear’.

The report claims Amorim is ‘desperate’ to keep Dalot and Man Utd are ‘adamant he will not be leaving’, but Real Madrid think they could ‘change their minds’.

                      The report claims.

‘Manchester United sources insist Dalot is not for sale, but those close to Real believe an offer in the region of £45million might change their mind, even if Amorim is reluctant to lose the Portugal international.

‘GMS understands the former Sporting boss has made it clear to Dan Ashworth, Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada he wants time to judge his current squad. And the fact Dalot can also be used at left-back is of appeal, especially with Luke Shaw suffering a new injury setback.

‘It remains to be seen whether Real would consider a move in January, but there is certainly more urgency to find a right-back in Madrid because Dani Carvajal is sidelined with a serious knee injury. Real are seeking a long-term successor to the 32-year-old anyway.

‘Dalot’s leadership and versatility have both been flagged in recruitment meetings at Real, and they have been tracking the player dating back to Erik ten Hag’s tenure.

‘Real also don’t fear Barcelona entering the race for Dalot’s signature. Sources have told GMS that Barcelona have not made any contact with Dalot, despite reports.’
